He’s trained himself to see the signs; shaky breaths, wobbly legs, that half-smile you give when you’re clearly in pain but you wanna convince him you’re fine—you’re not fine doll, lemme take care of you.

You always try to refuse his help, and you always fail because Logan doesn’t need your permission—if it’s in your benefit he’ll do it, no questions asked. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to him, so like hell he’s gonna stand by and do nothing.

“What do you need?” He whispers, taking you into his arms—sturdy, strong, arms that hold you tight and rub circles against your back as you whimper into them.

“Just need a break,” you breathe. “Just for a little while.”

You hate yourself for it sometimes, how easily you fall into his embrace, the soft coos that lure you in like a siren’s song—c’mere hon, I’ve gotcha—the way your body betrays you when it accepts his help so easily—

But then again, it’s not fair to blame yourself; when given the choice of pain or relief, you’ll always choose Logan.

To be fair, I answered this in another ask so I am going to lazy and copy that answer here. 🙂

Going deep here aren’t you Em? 👀 lol I’ve enjoyed writing since I was little as an extension of my love of reading. First with poems and the anime fanfiction when I actually watch more anime. Now I read more manga and don’t write fanfiction about it. If one squints on A03 - I may have dabbled in Marvel characters and actors for a short time. 🫢 The took a long pause as life happened. Sometime last year as my mental health improved so did my love of writing and I hyper focused on Pedro Pascal so here we are. 🤣 I write more the better my mood is. Maybe a bit too much background 😵

🪐= name three good things going on in your life right now

1. My long awaited vacation is almost here! It will start the end of next week. Feel free to tag me in things and message me but responses will be slow. I’ll be out of the country for 2 weeks. 😆 I’ve been looking forward to this for months. I need a break.

2. Actually precepting (teaching new nurses or new to specialty nurses the ropes of the unit) I work on a medical-surgical unit so we see everything under the sun. It can be daunting, very weird, hilarious and disturbing all in the same hour. But I feel like becoming a resource to other nurses and to staff on the unit was a good decision ☺️ As tough as it is, I enjoy it.

3. Family and friends: I speak to my parents a couple times a week and still go on trips with them so I’m always thankful to spend more time with them when I’m able and while they’re still healthy enough to do so. Both real life and online friends are blessing because I can chat about anything either really. No judgement from either - would they tell me if they did? Maybe 🤔 I’m curious now that I mention it. Pfft. 🤣

1) Do you daydream a lot before you write, or go for it as soon as the ideas strike?

I would absolutely LOVE to be able to write as soon as I get the idea. Back in the day I did sometimes do that and it was free, and fun, and so exhilarating until I ended up with half a dozen WIPs and felt so stressed about it all.

Honestly most of my ideas live on a list for years before they get written - if they ever do. It’s something that depresses me if I think about it, how so many ideas will never be realised because the ideas never stop. It would take me years - a decade or more - even writing solidly to write everything on my list now. To be honest because of this outside when I first get the burst of the idea, I try not to daydream about it too much. I can’t work on everything, all at once, and I don’t want to forget anything and then get that nagging feeling that I had a better idea if I ever do get round to working on it.

14) What is your favorite location and position to write in?

At my desk, on the PC. For my original novels I’ve been planning in Plottr (and have that open on one side) and drafting in NovelPad (open on the other side). I need that reference. I am so unbelievably spoiled having an UltraWide monitor (and before that I had dual screens) that I don’t function well without. I have attempted to write on the iPad and I get frustrated and give up if it’s anything more than a simple oneshot with little/no planning. If I can’t have it open in one window, then it’s a PC job.

27) What area of writing do you feel strongest in?

Revision analysis I think 😛 and yes I do know that’s not probably what the question meant. It’s by far my favourite part of the writing process (planning is second). I feel like I’m quite good at spotting where it needs improvement and then brainstorming how to fix it. I adore that rush when the brain goes like lightning and it all just clicks together. The execution (drafting) as always is infinitely harder. Very much “how do words work” as big picture - plot, character background/arc, theme etc. I am fairly confident but the actual description, making it all happen part, not so much.

To tie back a bit into question 1, this year I decided to reboot a series I first started writing November 2015. I hadn’t written in that world since late 2016/early 2017. I have complete drafts of the first 2 books, and half of book three. Anyway in January I tore into it and replotted Book One, reworked characters, went deeper into the world building etc. I kept the main plot points of the book but where before logic was lacking, I hopefully made it make sense. I then dove into redrafting it (finished end of March) and I’m taking a breath before I analyse it again to see how I did this time.

The thing with revision is it’s a learning practice. I read a lot of craft books but when I’m writing it’s impossible to hold all that information in my head. But when I’m looking at something that exists (aka not a blank page) I can see more clearly. At least I hope I can.

Besides I have been told that this makes me an “editing unicorn” as it’s apparently weird to like the revision part of writing haha.

29) What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of?

Hmm the way the question is phrased that doesn’t sound like “name a story, or name a scene, or a line” etc. it sounds like it wants a skill like the above question. But the thing is I feel very much like I am a work in progress myself with my skills. I don’t feel good enough yet, I hope one day I will, but that day is not today.

But! To go back to what I said about the execution being infinitely harder - I like my ideas. I mean I guess I should they are mine haha, but they are ideas I want to see in the world. I write what I want to read I guess (just dammit why do I have to write it? Haha) but yeah I think I am proud of my ideas. Nothing is new under the sun so I am sure they aren’t revolutionary but they mean something to me.

I’m a firm believer in the power of fiction. I feel like attitudes can be normalised. That if we see a lot of hate that hate becomes normal and more people hate. But vice versa if we imagine a better world, if we see diversity in all its infinite amazing combinations on screen/in books, that can become normal, and prejudice will become less prevalent and there might be less hate. I don’t know maybe that’s naive but it’s what I believe. But yeah I guess I am proud that maybe one day my work can play a small part in that.

For the prompt list, I've mostly just been writing two characters with an occasional third character making a cameo, so this one mostly just features Monica and Carol, but there's heavy discussion of Kamala, so hopefully it doesn't disappoint! 😊

   “Carol? Carol?!”

   “Hmm?” Carol looked up quickly as Monica’s voice finally broke through to her, her eyes wide a little as she paused in the middle of stuffing her face with spaghetti. Monica was staring at her and looked somewhere between exasperated and concerned.

   She was currently having dinner with Monica like she did once every week. They alternated between having food at the compound in Carol’s room, eating out and Carol insisting it was her treat, and eating at Monica’s place.

   “Did you hear anything I just said?” Monica asked, and Carol chewed carefully, swallowing as she stared at the younger woman. She was doing her best to remember anything she could about the conversation they had just been having.

   She unfortunately was coming up blank, but she was trying her best. She remembered something about Monica saying that she was going to be checking in on Agatha soon in the aftermath of their arrest from a while back.

   “Umm… You were talking about Agatha,” Carol stuck with the safe option. Monica sighed, seeing right through her, and Carol sighed, shaking her head.

   “I’m sorry… I’m just… I’ve had a lot on my mind,” Carol apologized.

   Carol hated that she had not been paying as much attention as she should have been. Monica did not deserve for Carol to be so distracted when it was their special night to spend time together.

   She just could not quite take her mind off of Kamala.

   They had been training earlier that day, and Kamala had yet again had trouble with a particular set of moves that Carol was trying to teach her. This was not necessarily a new occurrence, but that day, Kamala had just looked so utterly disappointed, and the expression had stuck with Carol all day.

    The truth was that Kamala had not really been showing any improvement in terms of her hand-to-hand combat skills, and both she and Carol had realized that the girl had somehow hit a mental block.

   Kamala was extremely smart and good at picking up on things, but she had a tendency to be better at the powers side of things than that of fighting without them. Carol would not have insisted so hard on the fighting without them part if it was not for the fact that Kamala’s powers came from her bangle. If she was ever caught off-guard without it, Carol did not want her to be completely defenseless.

   “What’s wrong?” Monica asked, and Carol looked at her carefully, her eyes softening as her chest warmed at the sight of Monica’s concern. Carol let out a soft breath, looking down at her plate as she shrugged.

   “It’s Kamala,” Carol started, and Monica looked at her strangely, narrowing her eyes just a little in thought.

   “That kid you’re mentoring?” Monica questioned, and Carol nodded.

   “Yeah… She’s kind of hit a block in training, and I’m not sure how to get her past it. She’s really smart and she’s amazingly talented with power mastery, but she just isn’t getting the actual fighting part outside of the powers,” Carol explained, and Monica eyed her.

   “I don’t know… I have to do something to help the kid,” Carol sighed deeply and tiredly as she shrugged, poking her fork into her spaghetti.

   There was a moment of silence before Monica took in a soft yet calculated breath, grabbing a forkful of her spaghetti.

   “You seem to think an awful lot of her,” Monica pointed out before taking a bite from her fork, and Carol looked at her carefully.

   There was a strange tone in Monica’s voice. It was not quite envy despite the fact that her voice had a few small hints of it. There was definitively a wistfulness, though.

   “Yeah… I guess she just reminds me a lot of you when you were young,” Carol admitted, and Monica instantly shifted her gaze up to meet Carol’s eyes.

   Carol offered a small smile to her, and Monica briefly scanned her face before allowing a gentle smile to grace her own features. Monica looked back down, and Carol felt her chest swell with affection for her niece.

   There was a brief moment of silence until Monica piped back up.

   “Maybe try training hand-to-hand with her powers?" Monica suggested, and Carol furrowed her brow, thinking about it for a moment before nodding, realizing that was actually a really good idea.

   “I didn’t think of that. That’s actually really smart. Thank you,” Carol expressed, and Monica smiled with a huff, acknowledging Carol’s words.

   Carol took another bite before bringing the conversation in a slightly different direction.

   “How’s it been for you since you’ve gotten your powers? Do you mostly rely on powers or hand-to-hand?” Carol questioned, and Monica paused as she thought it through.

   “I don’t know… I guess my impulse is hand-to-hand. I’ve been without powers for most of my life, so it’s not natural for me to use the powers first,” Monica admitted, and Carol nodded, considering her words as she thought it through.

   “I understand that. I guess using powers came a lot more naturally for me when that whole thing happened with the jet crash and I, um… forgot life before them,” Carol confessed, suddenly uncomfortable and not sure how Monica was going to respond.

   They had not really discussed this side of things before, and it was something that they overall just tried to forget about for the most part.

   Monica was quiet for a moment before finally speaking up.

   “I imagine that would probably help with the powers side of things,” Monica expressed, and Carol released the breath that she had been holding, trying not to make it too obvious. She was just thankful that Monica had not gotten upset or too weird about the entire thing.

   Monica was strangely withdrawn about these sorts of things, and as much as she seemed to want to reconnect with Carol, something was holding her back. Carol suspected she was likely afraid on some level that Carol was going to leave again and she was scared to allow too much attachment to her.

   Which deeply pained Carol, but she was willing to wait her out and prove to her that she was trustworthy and would not abandon her again.

   “Yeah, but I would’ve traded that for remembering everything about my old life in a heartbeat,” Carol expressed, moving out on that limb further. She knew she was easing into uncharted, tender territory, but she figured that she would go there anyway. It was a painful topic, but Monica deserved to know the truth of how Carol felt.

   Monica paused, looking at her as she simply listened. Carol offered a soft smile, moving her head in a shrugging sort of gesture.

   “I wouldn’t have stopped fighting until I could come home to you and your mom if I would have known,” Carol confessed gently, and Monica nodded slowly.

   “I know,” Monica uttered, her tone mirroring that of Carol’s as they looked at one another. Carol tentatively extended her hand to the younger woman, and Monica gazed down at it before moving her own forward to hold onto it.

   Carol squeezed gently. She allowed her somewhat calloused thumb, worn from years of fighting and roughness, to run over Monica’s skin, and Carol gazed up at her, her eyes lovingly gazing into that of her favorite kid’s. She could not help but notice that her kid was not quite so kid-like anymore. Her hands had a few callouses of their own by now.

   But despite all of that, Monica would still be her kid. Regardless of how much time passed and how much age wore at her, she would always be Carol’s kid.

4. How do you choose which fics to write?

im honestly not sure, its really whichever idea/wip that my brain latches on to long enough for it to get finished. if its an idea i really really want to do, it'll get done sooner or later cause i'll spend more time just staring at doc until something comes loose but really anything that has it's own dedicated doc in my folder, even if it's completely blank with just the title/the line or idea that inspired me, i fully intend to write it at some point. so tl;dr i intend to/choose to write all the fics that come to me

11. Do you write scenes in order, or do you jump around?

oh i jump around SO BAD, even my big bang fic which had a general plot outline for pacing, i jumped back and forth between chapters. i dont think ive written a fic in order EVER

29. What’s something about your writing that you’re proud of?

i think just improving since i started back writing creatively two or so years ago now. like re-reading back to those first few i published and what ive published recently, i feel really proud of my improvement!

43. Is there a trope or idea that you’d really like to write but haven’t yet?

im not certain, i think maybe a werewolf fic cause that feels like such a ubiquitous fandom thing but i do have a wip for that, it's just a matter of actually getting it written

49. What fic of yours would you say is the best introduction to you as a writer?

oh.... now that is a difficult question. i think sfw it might be 'the maker won't mind' or 'i want us to eat well', cause they both came from such places of love for the characters. nsfw, hee hee, i think that might be 'who we belong to' cause i think i really popped off in that fic, lol.

58. Do you have a favorite piece of figurative language you’ve written?

i think it might be the din talking about his mother's dessert in relation to boba in 'struck with devastating affection' cause im really proud that the feeling i was aiming for got across but also because i didnt even notice that i made a vampire feel like something tasted like sunshine to them, LIKE sometimes when i write i just do things just right when my overthinking brain shuts off and just lets the writing brain take over

65. If you wrote a sequel to [Struck with Devastating Affection] what would happen in it?

oh angle all you like, truly. i mean i do really really really want to write a sequel at some point, and i think it kind of planned that from the beginning. or if not the immediate start then not long after it was finished, cause i just really got caught up in what worldbuilding was there and i think there's places to go with it. and if nothing else, ive somehow amped up the sexual tension in BOTH of the vampire fics ive written and then cut to black, so i should really give them a nsfw follow-up in some degree, lol.

72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

i honestly love every single comment and compliment i get and i hold them so dear but any time someone says they feel that i've gotten a character's voice right just really gives me the warm fuzzies. OR, speaking of, any time someone has said a fic feels like a warm hug to them! MAKES ME SOB TBH

my advice for writing ??? as someone who started writing in Dec 20222???? i'm not sure i qualify to give any type of advice darling😭 but i will say this:

you said you love writing so start there!! don't be afraid!!! if you feel like writing something GO FOR IT, it doesn't have to be novel, hell it doesn't even have to be a full paragraph, write down your idea, tell your story and see how you feel about it, my golden rule is as long as I like it and it makes ME happy reading it, then I’m good!! Literally just open up google docs, or your notes app, whatever, take a breath and type away!!! flood the page with our ideas and then start organizing it a bit etc, don’t put too much pressure on yourself because thats when you lose train of thought and lovely ideas float way, forget about posting and what the reader will think, for now just put your energy into story telling :)

don't worry too much about grammar and schematics in the early stages, just get your idea out, tell your story! In my first few stories I was very insecure about the fact that my tenses were all over the place, I obsessed over it wayyyyy too much (I still struggle with it ngl), we aren't writing legal documents here, cut yourself some slack!! also, english isn't everyone's first language! I use free grammarly its very helpful, I am terrible at spelling etc.

at the same time, be honest with yourself, yes you are a brand new writer and there is lots of room to improve so if and when you receive some feedback, take it!! don't see it as an attack or a reason to not write anymore, incorporate it to the best of your abilities and keep trying!!

be yourself!!! I cannot emphasis this enough, you may not be aware of it yet but you have a certain niche that is going to hit juuuust right for your reader! i've started using tumblr and reading fanfic again since nov2022 and i have come across a wide variety of writing styles, some i personally enjoy more than others (and that's ok!) but there are so many insanely talented writers in this little fandom alone it blows my mind, and each of them has their own unique writing style and a different way to tell a beautiful story, and we appreciate them all!! there is room for everyone <3

most importantly: don't let lack of engagement discourage you, this is easier said than done!! right before I posted child's play, I posted a small one shot titled A Two Way Street, it was different from my usual fluff and actually, it was my very first time writing angst! (a tiny amount lol) and I was so excited !!! I even wanted (and still do) to make a part 2 and had this whole idea planned out, but it sat around 10 likes for nearly two weeks, with no feedback or anything, it was crickets lol. It made me really sad and I started to second guess my idea and just the story overall, I even thought am I writing too much too fast for someone who just started?? Maybe I should take a break. When I got the idea for childs play not long after that, I said fuck it ,I posted it with 0 expectations, I just genuinely liked my idea and telling the story, again, I had an idea for part 2 but this time I told myslef to not expect anything and just take whatever comes my way. The response to that story is still unreal to me, I'm so glad that I didn't let something so small discourage me from writing all together, truthfully some of the best stories I've read on here get way less recognition than I believe they deserve, but that does not take away from the writers talent or the story itself!!!

anyway, that was sooooo much rambling, I hope I was able to encourage you even a tiny bit, you are absolutely capable and worth the shot, don't be afraid, I’m no genius I'm just a regular girl and if I can do it, you absolutely can!!!❤️❤️

But in all seriousness, I’m making this post before anything else as an FYI because I can already smell the comments I might get if this gets any attention at all.

•1st, this is not an x Reader blog and I will not be doing anything with a y/n type character! If that’s what you’re looking for, then you might want to look elsewhere— buut if you stick around anyway thank you and please don’t complain about it!

•2nd, I don’t have any end goal ships! I may joke about this being a self-indulgent Self-Insert x Maven fic, but I promise it is not. Yes, this fic will include OCs, and yes, one of them is a self-insert of sorts. The main purpose of OCs is because in the canon of the book, there is no character or ability that could really help Maven. I made my self-insert before I even thought of this AU, so I’m just using them since their ability works.

•3rd, feel free to send suggestions or requests! I only have a few things in mind at the moment and I’m open to ideas so long as it pertains to the main focus of this AU, Maven getting therapy and being reintegrated into the main cast or maybe just into living. The only things I absolutely will not do are NSFW, reviving characters, or killing off characters [So no, unfortunately no !!surprise!! Thomas is alive and no murdering anyone— as for NSFW, I primarily mean explicit description of that type of tango] I am open to adding other people’s OCs, though I’m not likely to unless it makes sense for them to be added.

•4th, and possibly most important, this is not an apologist blog! Maven, while an interesting character, is still bad as a person! Like, worst of the worst type of bad! This is not “Maven gets therapy because uwu owo he did nothing wrong and everything is Elara’s or Mare’s fault!!” this is Maven gets therapy and help BECAUSE he did do horrible things largely due to his severe mental trauma AND of his own volition. Hell, I don’t plan on most characters even musing the idea of forgiving him for his actions because nobody owes him forgiveness even if he does improve in this fic! So I should break it to y’all now, while I have no final love interest for anyone in mind yet, Mareven will not happen.

•5th, in the same vein as 4th, I will not be diagnosing any of the characters with mental illnesses. Although some of their experiences could be comparable, I am not a trained psychologist and it would not be right of me to risk inaccurately depicting mental illnesses. Additionally, any word of Maven “not being whole” is not to call someone with mental illness “incomplete”— He is literally incomplete due to his mother altering and removing things from his mind. If I catch any of y’all being ableist on my blog it’s on sight.

with all that in mind, the info on updates and asks + an AU summary!

Updates will be as frequent as possible, though that can range from a couple days to weeks depending on how much time I have to write, how clear of a writing idea I have, and how long a chapter is. I will find time to do filler posts whenever I can either with non-canon to the AU content or [after the dynamic is pretty settled] one-shots that take place in between cuts or one-shots of parts of chapters from other perspectives

If ur not that good yet, try starting with some simple pop grunge stuff like hole. If u like them, challenge ur self to learn the whole live thru this album! That’ll teach u a lot of important things plus introduce u to main riffs and hooks.

If ur p good at this point and wanna try and shred, u should looks up Scales™️. Lol. Solos are made up of a bunch of scales that have been filleted with improv. Look up major scales, minor scales, and the minor pentatonic scale. (Minor pentatonic is the most popular solo scale). Try playing them as runs, which is when u play up and down the scale in a different, mixed up pattern. If u wanna go further down the rabbit hole, look up modes! Which are the scales that can be built off of each separate note within another scale.

But if that’s not your thing, the only important thing is that u practice and you’ll be able to play anything! If you want to be able to play a specific way Super well, then look up the most well known artists within that genre and start with their most popular songs. For example, I really wanted to learn metal so I started learning a lot of Metallica, and a lot of their more popular songs are a lot easier to learn than u might think !

You can easily develop any of them, but you particularly have a good sense of clairsentience (being able to “feel”, it’s usually a gut feeling or you will feel the emotions of others) and claircognizance (just knowing things, as someone who has this strongly it got me in a lot of trouble as a kid because I would start shit with people before it was revealed to others who they really were) I feel like it’s also important for you to start a dream journal, a lot of messages are given to you through your dreams. Pretty prophetic. You might have strong Pisces in your chart. If you do develop clairsentience it’s important for you to start veiling, so you don’t accidentally pick up on others emotions and confuse them with your own.
