maybe this is silly but — do you have any thoughts on lucy grays specifically appalachian identity? I often think abt how the films erased the cultural / geographical specificities of district 12 even though it’s literally so so important to the books (it’s mentioned on page 2 of the hunger games) and idk I think it’s very interesting/ kinda funny and iconic that in response to that erasure suzanne collins literally made a character whose cultural identity cannot be erased without significantly altering her narrative function. On a meta textual level it’s also an interesting echo to the Capitol erasing lucy gray and then her being restored by the author - kinda? i ended up rambling a lot so i will put my actual answer under the cut:

the erasure of all the really appalachian things- especially the accents- in the trilogy will always devastate me. which i why i will go to my death defending rachel zegler against anyone who criticizes her accent in tbosas.

i love lucy gray and the covey because you absolutely can see so much appalachian and bluegrass influence in them and their lives- but the book makes it clear that they aren’t really district 12, therefore, not really appalachian.

i think in a lot of ways lucy gray really embodies an appalachian girl. she’s fun and strong and willing to do whatever it takes to survive. she’s not afraid of the woods or the creatures in it- she makes friends with the snakes. she loves music (my girl needs a banjo i will die on that hill) and brings that to her people. their performances are one of the few times that people in 12 really get to be carefree and have fun and it brings everyone together. music is such an important thing in appalachian culture and is something that always brings people together.

she as a double name and it’s important to address her using both- which is also a fairly common thing in appalachian culture, it’s rude to only refer to them by one of the names. (which is why if someone only calls her lucy i do not take their opinion on her character seriously at all.)

you can also see it in the way the covey are a family without all being really related and the way the older members take care of the younger ones. in the way they spend time at the lake fishing and swimming and collecting food from around the area to eat. in the clothes they wear. in their music (nothing you can take from me boot stomping version my beloved).

but i think the distraction that they aren’t really from district 12 and not really appalachian is important. you can see that in the way lucy gray describes the covey as outsiders in district 12. i think this is another way that you really see the influence of appalachian culture in district 12. it doesn’t matter how many similar traits that they have or how long they have lived there- they’re still outsiders to the people who have lived there their whole lives. they still aren’t fully trusted by the wider community because they’re different and not from around here.

I know everyone’s tired to death about hearing about Hope and the boudoir but I’ve just realised there’s already kinda some evidence that nothing at least physically might’ve happened to Hope in the Boudoir or specifically done by Raphael, he isn’t innocent either tho. (Also I won’t talk abt this again man, I just want to point some interesting things out 👉👈)

First thing to note, I wanna make it clear that when she says this, she is explicitly talking about Haarlep (also kinda Raphael, but she is clearly talking abt Haarlep here)

If anything physical did happen to Hope in the Boudoir, it doesn’t make sense that it would be Raphael actually doing it himself, it would make more sense that he would’ve gotten Haarlep to do it. Though I don’t even believe that’s the case since though Sucubus/incubus aren’t lawful evil and are more neutral evil, and therefore don’t need to do contracts or whatever, yet Haarlep still asked for your consent to play their game, which doesn’t make sense if they were shown to be forceful before. Like why change it up?

Also, Raphael wants Hope to willingly submit to him - to serve him. Torture is a great motivator for sure, but going anything further than that would kinda break his MO. Rather, I think he brought Hope into the boudoir to entice her, show off Haarlep to her basically; Their many forms, and many talents. Basically trying to tempt her with pleasures of the flesh, and have Haarlep put on a ‘show’ or ‘performance’ to reel her in. (Which obviously didn’t work in the slightest)

Since what would be the point of physically forcing her to submit? It basically goes against everything he’s been trying to get from her, I mean, If he wanted he could probably just make her a mindless thrall through some other means, but that’s not what he wants, he wants her willing submission/defeat.

And finally, If you play as Astarion and have him get ‘down and dirty�� with Haarlep, he won’t fall easily to the incubus’s seductions and even Haarlep themselves is like no one has been able to resist me before, so if Haarlep did anything to Hope then how has she not already submitted? If she wasn’t able to resist, well that means she either lost her body/form to Haarlep or would’ve lost her soul, and tbh neither seem to be the case so how was astarion the only one to be able to resist Haarlep once they’re already getting ‘down and dirty’ and yet Hope still hasn’t submitted to anyone or given in, so she most likely had never even gotten close to being tempted to be with Haarlep and therefore would’ve never needed to resist them if they ever ‘got down and dirty.’

I don’t think I’m gonna talk about this again, I think enough has been said about the whole affair, but I have since changed my mind abt it, since there was actually a lot more dialogue abt the topic in game that I didn’t catch, and her line about her time in there and talking about the place being sticky and gross, sure it’s initially very visceral sounding but is also just a visual descriptor of the type of gross shit that she saw go down in that place. Also, either way it doesn’t change much since Raphael has already literally tortured to insanity (or as close to it as possible).

You could say a lot of things about Hinata, but being unathletic was not one of them. You had long legs and you weren’t exactly walking. Yet, Hinata could keep an even pace with you without running out of steam.

The only reason he was breathless was because he was talking to you.

It was obvious that Hinata had a crush on you. If he wasn’t blushing and breathing erratically, then he was offering to do things for you or complimenting you. He never showed this level of attention to anyone nor was he so enthusiastic about receiving attention, except when it came to you, of course.

He followed you around like an orange-haired shadow, grinning from ear to ear, eagerly butting in wherever he could. If you didn’t know better, you’d say it was cute.

But glaring at anyone you talked to or confronting them with a bone-chilling expression wasn’t cute. Neither was digging through your things and probably being behind the disappearance of many small items that you once owned.

Hinata was way too enthusiastic when it came to his crush on you, so you always did your best to avoid him. But that was hard when your clubs got off at the same time.

You’d tried to use some intimidation and put on a no-nonsense persona, confronting him about his behavior and sternly telling him that it wasn’t okay. To leave your friends and property alone. 

But it didn’t stop- it never stopped. You were beginning to think you’d have this little twerp following you around for the rest of your life.

Hinata wasn’t all bad though- he would carry your things and help you with whatever he could. If only he was smart, you’d take him up on his offer to do your homework for you. You didn’t mean to use him as such, but you might as well let him do what makes him happy, right?

Hinata holds out his arms to take your lunch tray from you, and you gratefully hand it over. He follows you, practically skipping, to where you plan to sit. 

Your friends turn to welcome you, but their expressions dull when they see Hinata. The ginger is either unaware or doesn’t care, because the same blissful smile is etched into his face. At least he’s not staring them down like he wants to kill them this time.

You sit down in a way that leaves no room for Hianta, but that doesn’t deter the hyperactive boy. He opts instead to stand at the end of the table, unnervingly watching you and your friends converse. He continues to smile until the guy friend next to you puts his hand on yours during a funny joke. Hinata’s expression goes from sunny to stormy in an instant and those familiar chills go down your spine.

As Hinata walks you home, he’s unusually quiet. Normally, he’s asking you questions about yourself or trying to make small talk, but not today. It only serves to freak you out even more, feeling as though something’s just waiting to go wrong.

When you stop at your house, Hinata’s hands grasp your shoulders tightly and you’re surprised to see him crying. Before you can ask what’s wrong, Hinata asks a question that makes your heart speed up.

“Do you like him? That guy that touched you?”

A blush spreads across your face, no matter how hard you try to act like you don’t care, because the answer is a resounding yes. You’ve liked him for years now, but that wasn’t something you shared willing with others.

Hinata becomes silent once more, and when you catch a glimpse of his expression, your blood runs cold. His mouth is a thin line, so unlike the bright smile that he wore earlier. His head is tilted slightly to the side. But it’s his eyes that terrify you.

The pupil is constricted and the brown around it is dark, reflecting your frightened face in it. The eyelids are stretched unnaturally wide as he stares blankly at you. 

There’s no life behind his intense gaze. No light left in his eyes.

“I’m going to kill him,” is all he says.

- so like. the twin’s mirror counterparts would act pretty different from them obviously. mir lula would be the complete opposite of lula, being loud and brash and being very willing to pick a fight. if you look at her the wrong way she WILL fight you. mir lula hates being the mirror counterpart of someone she deems as weak in her eyes, and goes out of her way to prove to herself that she’s stronger and better than lula. mir lula is kind of coping hardcore by doing her best to be just. kind of a bitch LMAO. mir lula is like of the embodiment of lula’s own lack of self worth but turned up tenfold. if the two were left together mir lula would immediately tear into lula, while lula would just listen bc she believes it to be true anyways… god help her. luca wouldn’t let anyone be such an ass to his sister, definitely not even her mirror counterpart, and mir lula would see luca as a weakling like she does lula, mostly because mir luca seems more put together than him. either way she hates luca and luca hates her.

- as for mir luca… he has a bit of an ego with all the unhealthy habits luca has. he also will be rude to you if he deems you unworthy of his time, mir luca is a bit of a workaholic and spends a lot of time working on new projects. he thinks he’s better than you and does not care. he’s more proficient than luca is with his magic, reflecting how luca desires to be better at it himself. luca can be a bit egotistical sometimes, and is quick to get on his bad side if you fuck up even the slightest bit, which is why mir luca is the same way but turned up a few notches. luca does feel like a burden at times and mir luca feels a similar way, so he tries to hold himself in high regard to compensate for that, and works constantly to make himself feel useful. mir luca and luca get along okay actually, they can talk abt the technical aspects of own projects together, and mir luca does hold some respect for luca actually. although lula might feel a bit awkward around him bc he’s more serious than luca, mir luca would enjoys lula’s presence. lula usually being polite and kind would be a breath of fresh air in comparison to being around mir lula so much LMAO

- another thing is, I think secretly both mirror twins would be a little jealous of how close the actual twins are. mir lula and mir luca do care about the other deep down, but they have a very hard time showing it properly… on a surface level they both have the mentality of “you’re the only idiot around here I can actually trust.” but there’s times where how much they care abt each other the way lula and luca do slips through the cracks… but they don’t show it properly. like mir luca fussing over mir lula coming home with injuries bc “she’s taking him away from his work” as he’s tending to them [he secretly worries for her well-being, he thinks her constantly picking fights isn’t good for her. she pushes herself too much and he can tell it’s causing physical and mental strain on her]; and mir lula bringing a homemade meal to mir luca when he’s in the middle of working bc “what use is he if he starves to death” [he forgets to eat often and it worries her, again he has a few unhealthy habits just like luca… a poor sleep schedule, constantly trying to keep himself busy, and again, not eating well isn’t good!!]

:)c YESSS i love talking abt maceghost.. i know ive made a bunch of sporadic posts about them but i havent done a like dedicated hcs post. i feel like often im struggling to understand the narrative of their past but generally i keep the same vibe to it all.

mace is for sure the more level headed of the two only because relationships and love freak ghost out. ive mentioned on a post like years ago hes traumatized by watching his mother stick with his father and i still believe this. hes like scared to be in a position where something Isn't working anymore but hes too emotional to cut it off so he self sabotages the relationship so mace will get pissed and stop talking to him.

in the past (as i mentioned in another post) mace Did also feed into this. he had a good home life but his own personal issues and anger at more outward issues caused him to like. seek an outlet for this sort of petty squabbling. and he found it in ghost. until he got tired of festering and being pissed off all the time and decided to actually like Do Shit he feels good about. and he broke up with ghost.

now in modern times where theyve caught up with each other it's like a weird mash of their past and them both being more mature. ghost struggles more because hes very adverse to actually improving himself and how he feels about himself bc hes like. hes Given Up on being a person. while mace has done a lot of healing.

like the toxic factor of maceghost Is Ghost at this point to me. but theres a lot of love there bc theres a lot of mutual respect and, like, easy familiarity there. mace understands how ghost works at his core.

so like. when ghost is being Normal and not anxious they literally just. like. Click? mace can extremely put ghost at ease with just his presence. and mace in turn rly enjoys his company bc a calm ghost is actually just sort of casually funny.

and ghost does like making mace laugh i imagine mace has a really beautiful smile bc he has resting bitch face so when it lights up it's very special.

ghost also i think would be 100% willing to take his mask off in a room of just him and mace. no special occasion needed he's just comforted. mace has already seen it over many, many years.

because they're like an Old couple i think theyve been on and off since their mid twenties for ghost and late twenties for mace. WHICH is another reason mace like wont entertain the childish picking ghost does theyre literally too old.

but he does play along a little. sometimes. old habits die hard. if it's petty mace will have a back and forth w ghost for old times sake its just how ghost communicates sometimes. emotions are just hard for ghost mace understands this. to put all of this simply.

so there are no 150% set in stone canon answers to this as far as ik, as i read the past records for 🍎🪞 i felt that the story as a whole never really provided a “true answer” and wants you to come to your own conclusions. and that’s where we come in- we can always theorize and talk abt this! so please share your theories too 👀✨✨ will put everything under the cut! bc it’s.. a lil long. lmao

(1) how did elbert avoid the false choice in the game? or was it his bad luck?

i think the concept of “luck” is pretty warped in this story, to be honest.

what’s interesting here is that elbert had always made the wrong choice — except that he actually always made the right choice, because the one he was playing with was alfons.

so objectively speaking, yes, i think elbie does indeed have “bad luck.” and this is not only evident in the past records, but also if you look at his past, and the events in his own route, yes you can say that he indeed had a streak of bad luck. they’re just not as vocal abt it in the main story compared to the past records. even though liam briefly suspects elbie may have been making the decisions he’s been making purposely due to him saying he won’t let al die, but like, how would child! elbie have known child! al was gonna spike one of the cups of tea with a lethal poison? or how would he have known which hand the regular or the irregular pudding was held in? like he is human too (a cursed one, but human nonetheless). it’s not like he can completely mind read al when it comes to this.

i think what elbie meant by “i’m not going to let al die” is that, were he to make the “wrong decision,” i.e. choosing the tea that’s not poisoned, or choosing the carriage with the non-intoxicated driver, etc. then he, too, would save al. and he’s willing to go through pain himself if it means al doesn’t have to.

but, when he plays with al, is he lucky that he wins every bet (in the terms al lays out) and thus keeps al alive, or is he unlucky for technically making the “wrong” decision that puts himself in danger, in lieu of al? and conversely, does al have bad luck that he can never seem to get his wish to die, or to distance himself, granted? after all, he is the one who laid out the terms of winning or losing a game. elbie had only really ever gone along with everything. bc it’s al, and elbie would trust al with his life, unironically.

could it be al’s “bad luck” that the opponent he met a long time ago is always someone with “bad luck,” but since he is a “mirror,” his opponent’s bad luck turns into good luck?

so i think even in this way, they are meant for each other in this sort of more than (or different than) platonic but less than romantic kinda way.

(2) what is another reason elbie took al to the manor?

i don’t think this is ever explicitly mentioned outright, but i don’t think we have no basis to go off of either. but this would require us to delve into some spoiler territory for elbie and al’s route, so if you don’t want to hear them, then you can stop here, but the short answer would be that the other reason elbie mentioned having (which he kept a secret from al) may either be bc he wanted a friend, or he wanted to help al in exchange for al helping him when he needed it most. as for the long answer..

for that said “other reason,” we can look first at elbie’s route. there, al talks abt his past to kate, and one thing that’s really evident here is that for a lot of his life, he was basically alone. his story mentioned his parents, the butlers and maids — but nobody really around his age. his parents turned their backs on him, and he couldn’t trust the servants in the estate; if anything, they made him very uncomfy and unsafe. he only stayed bc no one else would “love” him and he had nowhere to go anyway. so it probably was a relief for him to finally find someone around the same age as himself. someone he knows can be there for him. someone who he knows won’t just see him as a sexual or beautiful object, or someone to be repulsed or hated. to elbie, in his childhood, al probably was the manifestation of a “safe place” that his parents and his servants should have given him, but ultimately failed to give.

well, that said, their friendship is unorthodox in some ways too, probably in part due to al’s curse. after all, they play all these risky games together (except the coin toss), and in elbie’s route there was a time when al had disappeared for some time bc elbie was at a point where he nearly died, and when kate questioned al where he was, he shrugged it off, but said that he didn’t like the idea that he might feel relief at the prospect that elbie would die before him — and this isn’t bc al doesn’t like elbie, but rather the opposite, as if elbie dies before al, he will die remembering him. you could say the fact their friendship has sort of that “twist” to it is bc elbie had reached out to al and kept him by his side, along with the curses sorta fvcking with especially al’s mind.

the other likely possible reason is that elbie wanted to help him. overall elbie is very sensitive especially to other people’s sadness or other negative feelings and doesn’t want anyone to be sad, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he had picked up on the fact that al, for all the facades he may put up, suffers from depressive symptoms. like, there were points in his route where he was genuinely out to die. i believe roger mentions this as well- though i think the relationship between al and roger warrants a whole separate post from this one lmao but the thing is, elbie wanting him to live, or rather not letting him die, would go against al’s wishes. and that could be why he keeps a secret on his end abt it?

so tldr on that point: aside from the fact he may just want to have his fun keeping a mystery on al (like al himself is like that mysterious™️ character anyway so what’s wrong with elbie keeping a mystery of his own too, yknow?) he may be keeping it a secret out of consideration, too, maybe?? because even if al wants to die, elbie, and roger, would never let that happen. i think elbie does want al to keep living, even if he’s aware he does have suicidal thoughts. and this is evident in al’s route.

al’s words had saved elbie as a child, and so elbie probably wants to do the same for al.

of course there could be other reasons, but i’d say these are probably two of the more likely? ones if i had to guess!

ohhhhhh that’s a LOADED question i could absolutely ramble abt this.

I might as well drop my answer in the “does she know?” poll: im a “she has a hunch but doesn’t act on it” truther.

After weeks (or maybe even just days) of searching, she’s the first to come to the realisation that he’s not missing, he’s dead. She knows him better than anyone, she knows that even in his lowest moment he would never disappear for this long. In general she’s also just the most grounded monster in the wild east: while the others can indulge themselves in hope and optimism that he’ll return, she can just face reality and know the odds are definitely stacked against starlo being alive at this point

She would eventually accept that clover did it, too. It was a thought itching at the back of her mind ever since she first saw them on the cliffs, just… standing there. Only now is she ready to put the pieces together, who else could have possibly done it? The four were angry at him, but they were all still close friends just going through a rough patch. Clover, though? From the very beginning of their wild east journey, she had suspected they weren’t really… into it. They were being basically held there against their will, after all. If anyone would be willing to pull the trigger on star, it would be them.

And I imagine she would develop a guilt complex over this, of course. I’ve mentioned a lot before that she has a tendency to blame herself for things even when its out of her control, notably how she says she let chujin work himself to death when chujin is the one that intentionally hid everything from her, including the warning signs that his life was at risk. This would extend to star, I think. Her entire role in the wild east is as an observer, she watches over clover and encourages them to come to a peaceful resolution with starlo by playing along. When she leaves him, just like the four, she willingly left star alone with someone she knows could cause him significant harm (“humans are dangerous”, of course.). ESPECIALLY if we assume this is on a neutral route where ceroba already knew clovers soul is impure and thus had killed monsters before. What was she thinking??? How could she allow herself to set boundaries and leave him alone??? Who cares if what he said hurt her feelings, her feelings don’t matter. She should have been there to protect him.

So uh. Yeah. Definitely falls into a worse mental state. Losing the only person she was still close to, and in her mind it was all her fault, just like in chujin and kanakos case. She could have put a stop to his killer, too, but she didn’t. This is her new rock bottom.

I’ve already rambled on so long but uh feisty four uhhhh… honestly idk if they’d be able to do much for her. She isn’t close to them, really. Not enough for her to consider them her friends, apparently (“Starlo was the only friend I had left”). Ceroba would probably have trouble finding support in general as at this point she’s still hiding so much from everyone in relation to her family and the mission she had been left with. Letting her guard down to talk about how stars death affected her would mean having to talk about them, as well. Ceroba is stubborn, too, so I think it would be a long time before she truly lets herself get support from anyone

… and I think itd be more likely from crestina and solomon, tbh. She doesn’t talk much to the four, but she does talk to stars parents a lot, esp in relation to star himself. They’re the first ones she goes to consult abt stars disappearance, too. I think if anyone was able to get her to open up and get the support she desperately needs, it would be them.

Hey no worries at all!! I've actually been talking to Atlas a lot abt Groda lately (he's #1 Groda fan I'm pretty sure) so I can actually copy/paste some of the stuff I've talked abt previously! And to anyone who needs to do some additional catch up reading, I talk about a lot of her past history here, and a bit about more recent (but also still past) events here. But!!! Talking about her (rather long) transitional period specifically, that pretty much started the moment that she got (unwillingly) taken home by the main 4 players after her defeat. Given she held Rana hostage for a few days, among other things, fair's fair. The main focus point though was after everyone getting back to somewhat decent health, Herobrine using his magic was able to find a way to block Groda from using it on her own, hence creating a longer term solution than just having her tied up forever effectively. Groda, without her magic, is a goddamn sitting duck. No Wardens, no turning people to stone, no way to fight back other than a half-hearted slap fight at best. Unfortunately her loss of the ability to use magic ALSO means almost no one could understand her anymore. Previously, thanks to her magic, the Galactic language was basically auto-translated to the players as Commonspeak (her lips actually wouldn't fully sync up with words she spoke, something that was noted by Rana during her time stuck with her in the caves), but now she'd only be reduced to Galactic at its purest form. Fortunately due to Herobrine's self-taught learning of the language (albeit a VERY butchered version of it being self taught), he at least was able to still understand her and communicate in some regard. Or perhaps you could consider that unfortunate for him, given the only weapons Groda had left to use was her words, and he had to be the brunt of actually understanding that and teaching her Commonspeak. On the contrary, soon after this revelation Rana would try and learn Galactic to try and make Groda more comfortable with the current circumstance and maybe feel more motivated to put in the effort. She's not very good at it, but it's the thought that counts! Groda did pick up rather quickly on Commonspeak though, since it and Galactic aren't too far apart in translation. Once she picked up enough on the language to be able to communicate basics (and maybe curse words she would pick up on from Alex), she would soon be getting her hands dirty for once in her life and actually doing field work with Rana, not only to carry her own weight in chores but also to get her more in touch with the new world and being an actual PERSON after her long lived royal life. With time, learning more of Commonspeak and taking in the world around her with the people who were willing to even TRY and help her change for the better, she started to realize more and more how badly her actions managed to inadvertently fuck everything up. How much the world had changed because of what she unleashed, and the weight of her actions fully dawning on her. Which I give this important note of Groda's characterization to:

She gets better slowly with time of course, its all just taken day by day and she learns more and more to do things for herself and to help those around her. I think one of my favorite turning points for her though is when Rana and Herobrine bring home a Sniffer egg they found in some old wreckage at sea. (Sniffers being a species in this instance that went extinct because of the Wither being unleashed by her) Groda is dumbfounded to see the thing even intact at ALL, and hesitant to hope that it may still harbor life at all, but she does take it upon herself to care for it until it does indeed eventually hatch! She names him Bear :)

Thank @beegswaz for the art of them together im obsessed with it Another important arc for her character, arguably the most important one is when she's spotted by the Wither Cult and is eventually pursued directly by White Eyes upon her finding out that Groda is still alive. Upon the (deadly) confrontation between White Eyes and the main 4 + Groda, she shows her truest colors:

After the dust settles, White Eyes is brought home much like the same way Groda once was (albeit unconscious this time around) and a way to free her of the Wither's influence will eventually be found. And though the mere sight of Groda brings her to a rage even now (very understandable), Groda takes some solace in the fact that she for once can think with 100% unbiased confidence that she did the right thing.

Charlie, Pim, Scribbly, and Bill VS The Alien

Aka me talking abt my self insert being included in ep 6

(I wrote this all pretty late at night so I apologize for any errors.)

Of course Scribbly is joining them!! Any chance to spend time with her boyfriends is one she’s willing to take.

When they’re driving up, she has her head out the window- like a dog, of course.

When Charlie asks about where they’re going, Scribbly points out that her and Pim spent most of the car ride talking about aliens. Charlie waves it off, saying he has a hearing problem.

At the site, Scribbly’s ecstatic, happily greeting Bill but backing away from the other two.

Like the others, she full heartedly believes in aliens. She even points out to Charlie that he mentioned seeing aliens in the enchanted forest, but he waves it off as it having “different logic” than the rest of the world.

She’s caught in the tractor beam with the three of them, however she doesn’t wake up in the fucked up alien room with the others- instead tied up outside the ship.

“How did you get out??” “They put me out here. They thought I was your pet.” “That’s pretty messed up man.” “I KNOW RIGHT?”

When they stumble into the alien house party, Scribbly’s encouraged to participate as well.

“Oh… I don’t know, I shouldn’t. I’m only 20…” “We don’t wanna make someone under the legal limit do all this. Too much legal trouble. You should go outside.” “But what about-“ and then she’s kicked out. (The actual conversation would be more in line with the realistic dialogue SF dips into, I just don’t have the brainpower to write it all out rn)

The episode continues how it normally does until the party ends, Scribbly returning into the room to be there for Charlie and Pim.

Nothing too notable happens after this, her just going to oh the motions of the plot- she gets scared when Charlie argues with the aliens, trying to stop him with Pim. Her glasses get cracked in the process.

When they’re in the escape pod, before they get near earth, Scribbly asks about Bill.

“Hey- I didn’t see Bill at all- wasn’t he caught in the beam with us?” “Oh yeah the aliens ate him crazy style. Munching on his ribs and organs and intestines.” “…What?” “CHARLIE!” “I’m being honest!” “I liked Bill, he seemed like a good man…”

Once they see Earth, Scribbly is just as surprised as the other two are, making a comment about how her mom was right and agreeing to not tell anyone else about it.

And that would be it!

Hey. I’m not sure if i need advice or if i just need to vent but i’m pretty angry and you’re really good at listening to random people talk abt their problems. (Sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes)

So i had to to work the evening shift both days this weekend, and because of my particular brand of anxiety, i cant really do anything leading up to my shift. Like i get super nervous that i’m going to forget abt my shift if i do anything other than scroll through my phone or stare off into space. And then i found out that i’m also working the Monday and Tuesday after this weekend after school. At this point i’m pretty tired and knowing i wont even have a break after school is even worse. So, for my mental health I decided to skip school this Monday.

This is where the issue comes up. My mom was super against me skipping and we had a whole argument abt it. Basically i shouldn’t skip bc i’m “technically” truant, meaning i’ve skipped more than 11 days since school stared and they COULD either send me to court or have me pay a fine. Ik that sounds bad but they almost never send anyone to court or even make them pay any fines and most of my absences are from the first semester so i actually haven’t skipped in a while. Also half of those absences are my mom’s fault bc she forgot to email the school that i was sick or send them my doctors note which accounts for about 5 of my absences. And as long as one of my parents excuses the absence (which my dad is always willing to do) it doesn’t even count towards my truancy. When i tell her this she immediately pivots and says that well if she has to go to work then i have to go to school. Now i’ve always been really big on independence, i’m only an 18 year old senior in l Highschool but i KNOW thats bullshit, She works from home all the time and i was planning to do basically the same thing where i do the majority of my work at home and catch up on sleep until my work shift in the evening. So far this is pretty normal for my arguments about with her. Until i put my foot down and tell her that i’m old enough to have the right decide these types of things for myself and that i don’t think its fair for her to just decide for me. Usually she would relent but this time she threatened to CALL THE POLICE ON ME. I’m not exaggerating the escalation from a regular argument to a full screaming match was insane.

I was just so upset and it felt like she didn’t even see me as person who just needs a break sometimes. I was too scared to see if she would really call the police so i went to school. So, here i am silently fuming in class. I don’t even know if i’ll get through school with how mentally exhausted i am. Thats basically it. Just tell me if i’m in the wrong or over reacting or if i’m in the right. I’m such a mixture of angry and exhausted that none of this might make sense, but whatever. Thank you so much for listening.

Well, I think there are separate parts to this:

Your mom isn't listening to your emotions. This happens a lot with parents, and it's frustrating. Even though she was making a valid point with the truancy, threatening to call the police and throwing her own (irrelevant) work in your face wasn't the way to do it. I've always wondered why parents think kids are going to listen if they aren't given the respect of the acknowledgement of their feelings.

The entire argument is difficult because, there are layers here. from what you're telling me, your mother is some of the reason you have some of these unexcused absences, because she hasn't done the paperwork. But I also am wondering, how can you even be considered truant if you're 18? And, at age 18, isn't it your decision? I'm confused on the laws here.

Given all of this...would I personally risk skipping school if I was risking truancy? Probably not. But I've always been afraid to get in trouble.

But I feel like that's not even the biggest issue. Can your mom not send the doctor notes to school to get some of your previous absences excused?

Also...the petty part of me is like...your mom is saying she has to go to work...but you have to go to work and school. so that's not an argument.

I feel like your mom didn't handle this well, to be honest. I know she's trying to prevent you from getting in trouble, but there were other ways to do it. I hope that makes sense?

Idk if that's just me, but i always think about the note worthy moments Ochako had before her bigger ones, even if they had something to do with Izuku i just can't being myself to care, bc the biggest thing abt them are Ochako herself. Now, before anyone says anything, there isn't anything bad about Uraraka being inspired by Midoriya. Hell, the entire class is.

For me, the problem lies when ignoring times when she is acting just by her own behavior and feelings but only acknowledging the times Midoriya is playing a part. Even the other way around with Midoriya being influenced by Uraraka being ignored also irks me because it's like ignoring that Uraraka is an important in her own right. (Just as Midoriya influences the class, the class influences Midoriya. It's mutual and I love it.)

Sometimes the way some people talk about Uraraka makes me feel like they forgot that she is more than just a girl. She is a daughter, an only child who wants to provide for her parents that she loves so much. She's a friend who will laugh with the others, encourage them, have their backs. She's a student who works as hard as she can. A hero in training who strives to help people and put smiles on their faces.

The moment that really made me like Uraraka is when she gave her reason for wanting to be a hero, to help her parents. She was embarrassed by it, but as Iida (I believe it was him) said that it was noble thing. And I agree. Being a Pro Hero is a high paying job, especially when you're in the top ranks and it comes with a huge responsibility.

Uraraka knew that, she is aware because otherwise why would her decision to be a Pro Hero is to take care of her parents. She was willing to go down that career path for the people she loves.

It's also sad because she's also just a child. And her parents don't come off as the type who pressure her. They support and love her. Their family is just so wholesome to me and it's one of the parts of Uraraka I wish that was acknowledged more.

I find it pretty funny that Keith David is a president/vice president in Rick and Morty and Saints Row 4. Do you think their universes could be connected?

To be honest with you, I do. ive thought about this since i was like 16, but i also thought the idea was slightly cringe (at the time, now i let my cringe free). i could soo totally see boss and rick getting along so well, the fact theyre both reckless and flirty, the way they both act like "im tough, i dont care about anyone" but in reality they care so much that theyre willing to sacrifice themselves for their loved ones. plus cmon, the fact they both can not only avoid authority so well, but the fact theyve both been able to get out of jail with little to no actual punishment for their crimes? oh thats best friends right there i think. plus we can imply that saints row has some sort of canon/lore connection to adult swim tv show lore anyways, since jimmy - the guy who makes Johnny tag in the clones dlc for saints row 3 - is clearly supposed to be the nerd from robot chicken (literally even featuring the same voice - which iirc is done by seth green)

additionally with the fact that a song from the tim and eric show (the sports theme) as well as the aqua teen hunger force them and a MF doom song being included on the radio sound track? i mean i know adult swim did contribute to the game, but its not entirely clear in what way the adult swim universe is tied into saints row. especially cos they drop nearly all references to it outside of the fact im pretty sure you can have johnny tag and clone aisha as companions in sr4 (not entirely sure though since its been months since i played sr4 last and you do have to unlock them).

plus the line that the president has in the "get schwifty" episode' "...I'm the goddamn president of the united fucking states"... totally sounds like something he'd say when being confronted by boss for his backstabbing...

which honestly not to be tangential but i have to talk about that now bc im sooo realizing how genius it is to make keith backstab boss.... especially because he does it right before you get put into a simulation where you have to fight Julius little? i may hark on saints row 4's writing but goddd the fan service they give to us can be soo good. It almost makes me wonder if keith david is a clone or hologram that zinyak made specifically to betray/trick boss - especially since hes the only one (other than Benjamin king, but this you could argue Ben wasnt immune to it, since it was teased in the cutscene, plus you could make the point that boss doesnt see Ben the same way they see someone like johnny whos been a long time friend and companion and even someone like matt miller, who may be a genuine threat - posessing skills boss doesnt have/understands - but boss still sees him as "lesser" or equal to them bc of who matt is outside of his keyboard) who rejects boss' advances in the ship. especially because his bitterness not only towards boss, but zinyak. He makes a mention of originally campaigning to be the president before "zinyak kicked the stool out from under him", and since hes aware earth is gone... why would he care abt being president of holograms? some of the plot points they make in sr4 are a tad annoying for the reason that they love to set up stuff like this, and the audio log collectables tell us so much, yet, they wont do anything with it unless its inherently funny.

dont get me wrong, love saints row's humor but i just wish they wouldnt sacrifice interesting plots and characters for it. And i wish they would solidify canon more.

TLDR; i do think saints row and rick and morty are connected in some way yes. the way i think the saints row universe is indeed intertwined with other adult swims shows due to saints row 3 giving us plenty of hints that the universe are connected in some way.

(For the ask game) I have a couple of OCs, but I’ll do Dove since she’s my favorite girl :3 Dove is kind, hardworking (sometimes too much), affectionate (once she knows someone well), and teasing when she wants to be. She is from Texas originally, bilingual, and loves spicy foods and Tex-Mex food. She enjoys photography, journaling, and being in nature (especially if the weather is nice and cool). Okay so immediately I think on a surface level Heather would like her, simply because it sounds like they have a lot in common with the hard-working nature, being from Texas and enjoying journalling! They'd at least have a lot to talk about and bond over.

Heather struggles with friendships in general and Dove seems like a sweet person which is exactly the type of people Heather struggles with the most, if Dove likes evil people like John though maybe she'll be able to deal with Heathers attitude and once Heather realises she's not gonna be put off by her real personality she'll dub her the highest honor of actual friendship.

The only other problem that could arise is Heather obviously hates John and can't trust anyone close to him, but aside from that I think they could be good friends!

Piper would love Dove, she loves camping, hiking and being outdoors and she would love to have someone to do that with! She'd also enjoy how affectionate and teasing Dove is, Pip loves people she can bear hug whenever and have inside jokes with. (She would be the type to send Dove personalised memes at 3am). It's also very likely she'd get a big fat crush on her at some point because pretty women are just her weakness but she's also a lil coward so she'd never say anything about it and just be thankful to have a friend (seeing as despite being pretty laid back she can be a bit intense for some people and doesn't have many!). I think they could have a very chill, goofy kind of friendship tbh!

Anya, as you may or may not know, is a huge lesbian and when you put a hard-working, funny woman in front of her with interesting hobbies she will fall in love. She's also socially inept though so again, never admitting it—BUT, she would go out of her way to ask Dove about her hobbies and interests. She may struggle to share her own at first as she's very closed off and secretive but she's good at telling when people are honest and genuine and I think she'd see that in Dove and be more willing to tell her about herself. Anya also loves nature and she'd be more than happy to explore some of Hope County with Dove, she's great at picnics and will bring a bouquet along too because she can't help herself. (Dove may have to expand Anya's food palette tho bc her tastes are BLAND, like a pinch of paprika would kill her probably, help her).

Dean is the Golden retriever boy who befriends anyone whose nice to him for two seconds so i'd say he'd like Dove from the get go ajsjsjsj No but he'd definitely vibe with her personality and enjoy her company I think! He is touch starved so an ounce of affection would earn Dove his undying loyalty just sayin AND AGAIN outdoorsy man (I swear not all of my oc's our outdoor ppl this is a coincidence ajsjdjd) so he'd be thrilled to hang out in the wilderness and watch her take photos and if she gets tired piggy back rides are on the table! He also loves spicy foods and would always offer to cook for her btw his love language is feeding people and making them their fave drinks. He's pretty happy and laid back when there's not a cult takeover happening so I think they could definitely get along in the pre-reaping era (and they both have they same taste in evil cult men, tho Dean is super in denial abt it for a long time </3).

talking abt the animated high school show with the cloned historical figures but absolutely not tagging it bc I don’t need any randos to come argue with me abt it, so

putting it under the cut bc it’s long, rambly, and has several significant spoilers for s2 and s3. it is mostly about Topher bc they did him so dirty LOL. I just gotta get it off my chest bc it’s all eating me alive to the point where it feels like grief😵‍💫

tonight I ended up yelling myself into hysteria about how devastated I am that they’re literally writing Topher out of the whole show (literally 6 minutes of screen time this entire season. like actually literally.) and how easily they could’ve incorporated him more but they refuse to respect him as a character. like they can’t even do the bare minimum of continuing ANY of his story from s2 at all & its honestly a disservice, like they’d rather force his whole character to being defined by a group of other strange losers who all feel the same way as he does and acts the same way as he does, rather than keep him as an individual and UTILIZE HIM. he was a total loner in s2 bc he literally did not fit in with anyone and that made him stand out. but now there are several other weird randos (one of which being the laziest clone I’ve ever seen in my life—like Jack the Ripper was not a sassy black lady, what are we even talking about anymore it doesn’t make any sense, even as a joke) who are ALSO total loners who don’t fit in with anyone.

they didn’t even try to do anything at all with him. the most basic example is that he literally said he had a crush on Joan in the prev season—to the degree that he would convince Abe to get molested and then blackmail him abt it to keep him from stealing Joan from him—& then nothing happened with that at all when there was SUCH A CLEAR IN for that storyline. another insane example: he spent the entire previous season only talking to Abe and said like one word directly to him directly the entire season and there was never any mention of them ever having any relationship. no conflict btwn him and Abe for the INSANITY that Topher put him thru, which is actually nuts. they just…don’t talk.

my honest theory atp is just that he was a character that was too funny of a concept not to include, and didn’t have much else in mind. they just kept giving him jokes that were silly and didn’t take a moment to realize that there was potential for a very interesting ongoing antagonist. his blackmailing storyline was the most interesting thing in s2 for me bc there were so many questions about his actual motivations (bc he surely did not seem to care abt Joan when she was in trouble in s2ep10). & also bc like that’s a character who’s genuinely interesting and dangerous. he’s a total ticking time bomb with no friends and a history of psychiatric hospitalizations that’s constantly overcompensating for who he inherently is as the clone of a genocidal colonizer yet still being disliked because he’s overcompensating so much, who is willing to actively victimize and traumatize the only person who tolerates him over a crush (whether it be him having a genuine interest in Joan or him not wanting to lose his only friend).

but now they have him like “man I hate the popular kids, ooh Joan go change a letter out from the cheerleaders signs lol it’ll make them look stupid” are you fr. “we’re gonna release venomous snakes to poison everyone” don’t even look at me. so shallow, nothing there. why did he give up on trying to seem like a good person? doesn’t matter apparently. I could easily make up a reason but it’s not worth it to talk abt in the show ig so whatever.

it’s just so insulting and kinda icky to see that these writers/showrunners/whatever actively dislike one of their characters this much that they completely ignore both his established character traits AND his mere presence. He isn’t even in the background in half these episodes. He’s just gone.

I would’ve rather the writers just be like “sorry he’s in the asylum forever goodbye” and keep him out of this season entirely bc to see him reduced into generic nothing was a personal tragedy.

I was screaming about this for at least 40 minutes like banging on my desk and trying not to angry cry lol.

ik it’s dramatic but honestly I’m kinda grieving the show as a whole ngl. like I’ve come to the conclusion that it just doesn’t have a place in this decade & in retrospect it shouldn’t have been brought back in the first place. it’s so different from what it started as and I just…I dunno man. this season didn’t have any original music, no musical episode, no celebrity guests as far as I remember, and its just like guys what are we DOIN. it’s just such a deviation from the core elements of the show and it makes how serious we’re meant to take the show even more obvious and strange imo.

AND ANOTHER THING‼️ on that same note of having to take the show and characters pretty seriously, it’s even more obvious that they’re writing Topher out bc he’s the only “main character” in the opening credits that doesn’t get PROFUSE amounts of in-depth exploration—he literally gets zero. whatever nonsense he said in that last episode abt enjoying that he’s a villain doesn’t hold a candle to what everyone else got and honestly means nothing to me bc like…how am I supposed to be even kind of impacted by that reveal when he hadn’t spent a SECOND of this season trying to get anyone to like him. all he did in s2 was try to seem like a good woke guy with his awful activism and he did NONE of that the entire season, so it’s like 1. ok why not like why didn’t he do that if it was his MAIN BIT (A: bc the writers do not care about him clearly) and also 2. so why am I supposed to care abt him embracing his lineage in the last ep? it drives me NUTS bc that could’ve been such an interesting development (ala “aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you wanna just go ape shit?”) if they fucking set it up at all but god forbid i guess.

they so easily could’ve just cut out the bleachur creachurs and forced Joan to ally herself with Topher alone bc now everyone knows he’s kind of a misogynist and Abe fuckin hates him for the obvious reasons, and we get to the same place. let him and Joan be seen together. that would absolutely add tension to Joan’s relationship with the rest of her friends, especially since all of the boys KNOW that Topher likes her. im rewatching s3 now with my partner and im hoping ill change my mind and inhale some copium and force myself to like it, but at this moment this is how i feel and its exhausting. just bad. (honestly I have several other standout issues that i just don’t like with the season—e.g. fucking Mary is the stupidest character arc they could’ve used like this is so lame. we spent three episodes hyping her up so abe can get his dick wet and she just ended up being Bloody Mary trying to fuck him to death. we have time for this but not topher huh? no time for candide either huh? booo…hisss….stupid fuckin plot line and dumber reveal. some character issues with scuddy boy too…hrng)
