MHA boys reaction to finding out after the final war that their s/o became wheelchair bound and became a teacher after the war ended.
~Izuku Midoriya~
Tumblr media
When Izuku first learns that his s/o was badly injured in the war and can no longer walk, he would be absolutely devastated. Seeing the person he loves in so much pain, and knowing they sacrificed their mobility fighting alongside him, would tear him apart with grief and guilt. He'd likely break down crying and apologizing profusely for not protecting them.
But once the initial shock passes, Izuku's compassionate and supportive nature would quickly take over. He would do everything in his power to be there for his s/o during their recovery and adaptation to life in a wheelchair. Izuku would constantly encourage them, telling them how incredible and heroic they are for all they've done. He'd be endlessly patient, helping them with daily tasks and pushing their wheelchair without complaint.
At the same time, Izuku would make sure not to coddle or pity his s/o. He knows how strong and capable they are. So while he offers help, he'd also give them space to figure things out and maintain their independence as much as possible. Izuku would cheer on every milestone as they learn to navigate the world in new ways.
I imagine Izuku being so proud when his s/o takes a job teaching at UA. Using their skills and experience to help train the next generation of heroes is an amazing way for them to continue making a difference, wheelchair or no wheelchair. Izuku would brag about them to everyone. On tough days, he'd remind them what an inspiration they are to their students.
Overall, this tragedy would only make Izuku love and admire his s/o more. He'd stand by their side unconditionally, being the steadfast pillar of support they can always count on. They would grow even closer through this challenge. To Izuku, his s/o will always be his hero, no matter what.
~Katsuki Bakugo~
Tumblr media
Initially, Bakugo is filled with rage and guilt. He's furious at the villains who hurt his s/o so badly, and furious at himself for not being able to protect them. He may lash out or seem angry at first, but it's masking his devastation and self-blame.
Once the initial shock and anger fades, Bakugo becomes fiercely protective and supportive of his s/o. He's determined to be there for them no matter what as they adjust to their new circumstances. He helps them with physical therapy, getting their home accessibility upgraded, and anything else they need without complaint.
Bakugo is secretly very proud that his s/o has taken on a teaching role at UA to help train the next generation of heroes. He knows they have a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. But he grumbles that the "damn kids better not give you any trouble or they'll have to answer to me."
When his s/o has hard days and gets frustrated with their physical limitations, Bakugo is quick to remind them that they're still every bit the incredible hero and person they've always been. "You think a little thing like a wheelchair makes you any less amazing? Don't be a damn idiot."
Bakugo makes it clear to everyone that NOTHING about his love and respect for his partner has changed. He shuts down any pitying looks or comments immediately. His s/o is still the badass he fell in love with and he won't let anyone imply otherwise.
On the anniversary of the day his s/o was injured, Bakugo is always extra attentive, planning special things to show how glad he is to still have them by his side. He knows things could have turned out much worse and he'll never take their presence for granted.
Overall, in the end, he loves them for who they are no matter what.
~Shoto Todoroki~
Tumblr media
When Shoto first learns what happened to his partner, he feels a mix of deep concern, sadness, and anger that they were so badly injured. Even years later, remembering the moment he found out still brings back those painful emotions. He wishes more than anything he could have protected them.
At the same time, Shoto is incredibly proud of his S/O's bravery, sacrifice and strength. They put their life on the line as a hero, just like he did. And now they are channeling that same heroic spirit into inspiring and guiding the next generation at UA. Shoto has endless respect and admiration for them.
Shoto makes sure to be there to physically and emotionally support his partner as much as possible, especially early on as they adjust to using a wheelchair. He helps make their home fully accessible. If his S/O is self-conscious about the wheelchair, Shoto reassures them that it doesn't change how he feels at all - he loves them unconditionally and their chair is a symbol of their courage.
When he visits them at work, Shoto loves seeing his S/O in their element - skillfully navigating the school grounds and classrooms, captivating the students with their hard-earned wisdom and experience. The students look up to them immensely. Shoto teases that they're everyone's favorite teacher.
In private moments, Shoto makes sure his partner knows how much he cherishes them. The war took a heavy toll on them both physically and mentally. But supporting each other and building a life together has brought hope and light back after so much darkness.
Overall, his S/O inspires Shoto to be a better hero and person every day.

I'm really curious if people in the bnha subreddit know the meaning of character development when they say Bakugou changes and has better character development. Whenever I hear this sentence I'm like where tf is the change & development. He is the same guy he was from chapter 1. The only difference I've seen is he shouts less but that's it.
His apology to izuku was shit, his whole talk right after the apology about izuku's chosen path and ideals and how he was asking izuku to rely on him and shitty 1A was pure BS. The 2nd war proved how pathetic Bakugou and 1A were against AFO and my boi Shiggyband it also proved that Izuku was right to go vigilante and his reasons for doing it alone were right.
Also leading 1A's confrontation against Izuku, he never once took accountability for Izuku's mental state. Instead he blamed it on the one person who supported and was actually a positive influence to Izuku. He never opened up to anyone about how he abused and suicide baited Izuku.
He was being a prick to Fuyumi in the endeavour agency arc. Treated his team as lackeys and underlings in the JT arc. Bitched about how he wasn't included in the OFA meeting and disrespected the previous OFA holders. It was irritating that All might didn't tell him to get out for disrespecting Nana. Anyone other than Bakugou would've been a better sparring partner for Izuku during his blackwhip training.
Took izuku out and used him as his punching bag while gaslighting him for not revealing about OFA. Also why and how was he an inspiration to 1A when he didn't do shit for them. It should have only been Izuku.
Goes after the villains and gets himself captured even though he knew he was a prime target for LOV.
And why was he targeted by LOV? Thanks to his overall behaviour and track record from the sports festival fights with Uraraka and Shoto.
Even after knowing shoto's trauma, he still was being a POS to him.
They said he respected Uraraka in the sports festival but before the fight he told her to give up, looked down on her and never saw her as a threat. He was unnecessarily dragging the fight instead of ending it and used excess force in his explosion when it wasn't necessary considering it was just a sport and not a life or death battle. He later says "time to get serious" which means he never took her seriously which debunks Aizawa's claims and validates the audience's criticism of him. Even after the fight he still went and asked izuku if izuku had given a plan to her. This means he never thought Uraraka was capable of devising a strategy. So where was the respect in all this.
The subreddit always said he started to develop after the USJ arc but all the above arcs happened after USJ and none of them showed that he developed.
Hori literally bends the narrative to favour his pet and the bnha subreddit says "hurray character development", "he changed".
People actually claim that bakugo somehow started changing after the usj arc?!?! Really!!!
I personally don't think bakugo's character has had that big of a change at best I can say that he shouts a bit less but other than that there isn't much. The only reason that people think bakugo has changed is because the narrative tries to frame it that way and whenever bakugo does something that's outright wrong like punching Izuku it's painted as "oh that's just bakugo" or it's made into a gag that we are supposed to dismiss or laugh at.
Tumblr media
In my opinion it's not just MHA subbredit that believes in bakugo's "amazing" redemption and arc but it's a good chunk of the MHA fandom in general. Heck I remember coming across a post that showed how bakugo changed and @sapphic-agent debunked the post (Iam glad she did and she done it really well)
If bakugo were to properly be developed than a good chunk of his arc should be to develop out of his rivalry or his need for one.

it’s been a while since i’ve spoken on mha on here but i was talking to a cousin irl about bakugo (they like him; i don’t) and i realised exactly and coherently my biggest problem with his arc and why the general reception of his character made it impossible to stick with the fandom (for me) and why it was one of the reasons that i lost my enjoyment of the story. i won’t make this long [edit: i failed 😭]–i’ve gone on several rants about him before on this blog–but what disappoints me most is how his redemption did not truly address the reality of his wrongdoings. the problem with katsuki wasn’t that he was brash/rude/insensitive, it was that he bullied izuku and quite extensively at that. izuku forgiving bakugo was written off as his nature, a part of our protagonist’s forgiving characterisation but you know what could have punished bakugo instead? the narrative. but this absolutely never happens, not in a way that feels proportional to the deuteragonist’s misdeeds. you want to see a masterful redemption arc for a bully? ‘a silent voice’ does it wonderfully–never once downplaying the severity of the mc’s wrongdoings and still validating the victim while building a believable friendship and more between them. this happens after the bully has faced believable and proportional consequences for his actions and has undergone the process of understanding his guilt and where he went wrong and taking the initiative to do and be better as a beat of personal growth.
bakugo, on the other hand, never significantly reflects on his treatment of izuku. it’s one offhand comment here, one vague expression there. it’s an apology that comes too late and frankly detracts from what is supposed to be izuku’s moment of growth and appreciation (but i digress because my thoughts on the apology are very tangled).
but forget all of that. there is a way to still make a sympathetic redemption arc without having him emotionally toil over guilt. you have the narrative deliver some reality checks and gut punches. but bakugo never has to go through that. no one calls him out about the way he treats others–not in a way the narrative paints as significant and wrong. his behavioural issues are written off as funny gags and ‘quirks’. class 1-a mildly trashtalking him but still ‘respecting’ him are not consequences. most characters bend around him as if warped through the authorial-powers-that-are so he is not given a talking-to. aizawa is never upset and stern with him in a way that his character has been established to be. izuku’s closest friends don’t want to deck him in the face for insulting izuku at every turn. everyone’s happy to accept his asshole behaviour because “oh, he’s actually a good hero and he’s actually very competent” but we are still supposed to believe that after the apology, his growth arc is believable? even when his behaviour is actually just the same? the change in philosophy is only half the part of his growth. the other half is his redemption from being izuku’s childhood bully to now his friend and rival and equal.
and it’s the latter that i will never be satisfied with because before all the sudden changes of hearts and the apology, there was never a moment where katsuki got shut down for behaving like a bitch to izuku and had to sit down and reflect on his actions and realise, without a doubt, that he was wrong and that the narrative acknowledged with firmness that he was wrong. when the narrative itself is wishy-washy about how bad katsuki’s actions were and cannot let the characters realistically react to his verbal abuse in the context of the show, i, as a viewer, cannot really buy into his development being well-written no matter how much the fandom would like to sell me on it. people often say that katsuki got the way he did because everyone around him praised him... so, what exactly changed? as i see it, there never was someone who firmly called his bullshit out and gave him actual, real consequences specifically for his bully-like, asshole behaviour. where was his moment of realisation, where once he faced solid repercussions for his attitude towards izuku, he admitted to himself that he had wronged him? where was the build-up to the apology in the ambiguous narrative that refused to hold bakugo accountable for almost the entire show/manga? so, yeah, my problem with bakugo and his redemption is that it feels incredibly, incredibly unearned and there should have been a definite moment of ‘low’ as a direct consequence for his actions (not the sympathetic self-blame arc for all might’s downfall that he went through where it’s not really his own actions that are at fault anyway and doesn’t address his actual, real, very much present flaws) which would make the eventual ‘high’ of feeling remorse and making an apology feel truly as a moment of emotional maturing.

OK. does anyone else feel irritated that eng dub seems to be favoured in mha? in edits, in fics, it's clear most people watched dub and idk it's been rlly grinding my gears.
okay, to get this out the way, I don't like mha's eng dub. I don't like any of them. half don't fit their characters, 75% of the time the tone lands forced and awkward, and its literally just unbearable for me to watch I'm sorry. I have this issue with a lot of anime and cartoons so this isn't solely a my hero problem, but this is definitely the most severely I've disliked a dub. and yet I cannot escape it.
one of my biggest issues is the nuance that's lost in translation. anyone with any familiarity with the Japanese language will know what I mean. list of examples:
HONORIFICS
1. iida refers to class 1-A with '-kun'
2. yaoyorozu refers to class 1-A with '-san'
3. asui refers to class 1-A with '-chan'
3. deku with '-kun' (m) & '-san' (f)
that says SO MUCH about their characters, how they view their relationships, how they view themselves,, but in dub?? all of that's lost. ESP the significance of deku still calling bkg 'kacchan'. [simplified, '-chan' is used for cute/endearing things. it stemmed from children mispronouncing '-san', and became a childish, cutesy way of calling someone, usually someone you're VERY familiar with. it implies a shocking ammount of intimacy] thru years of bullying, all the rocks and straight up non existent road of their relationship, deku STILL calls him 'kacchan', the ONLY one allowed to do so ("but kaminari--" NEENAWNEENAWNEENAW).
in eng dub it gets reduced to a mere nickname, lacking all of its weight.
another thing is bakugou sub vs dub (...)
URGGGGGGHHHH
the most recent example is when bkg says "of course you pulled it off, Icyhot." (I forgot the context tho) in sub, he says "of course you pulled it off, TODOROKI".
THATS SUCH A NICHE, SUBTLE WAY OF SHOWING HIS DEVELOPMENT THATS TOSSED STRAIGHT OUT THE WINDOW. translation (manga) also has him calling his seniors 'senpai' which is... not what he says in sub????? 'senpai' indicates respect for someone your senior,,,, which. bkg would never show. (or only in EXTREMELY rare cases, MAYBE)
Tumblr media
there's also my peeve abt names. this may be an only me issue, but I don't like it when japanese names are written in western format (e.g Izuku Midoriya)... ("this guy cannot be fr rn" unfortunately yes I am). I don't have a reason for this, and I'm aware it's niche and irrational, but I always cringe a little when I'm reading a fic, that's SET IN JAPAN, and their names are written Given Name, Family Name. emphasis on SET IN JAPAN. THEY ARE JAPANESE. THEY ARE NOT AMERICAN.
bkg's hero name. his og one which was translated to King Explosion Murder, losing all of the wit and cleverness in the jp original. this post goes into more detail and is very cool check it out
slightly irrelevant but bkg's jp va, Okamoto Nobuhiko, like. wow. the bkdk fight? the voice cracks? the ANGUISH?? the softness in his voice when bkg was abt to die (the hallucination w all might) ??? like,, wow. the emotion is so much more raw than it's conveyed in eng
I've gotten off point. point is I WISH MORE PEOPLE APPRECIATED AND WATCHED IN JP SUB. IM SCREAMING INTO THE VOID AND MY OWN VOICE IS ECHOING BACK I CANT DO THIS ANYMORE.
(note: jjk was my first anime fandom so I'm probably spoiled. over there, sub seems to be favoured, barring a few iconic lines [ray chase lwk served as sukuna in the shibuya arc] and the fics, like 70% of the ones I read, used japanese honorifics and culture. in comparison, mha was a bit of a shock. the side of the fandom I washed up on is so... American??? maybe I'm in the wrong place idk. everything's just extremely white and slightly uncomfortable.)
this was a bit of a vent post,, obviously ik people are entitled to opinions (even if they're wrong), I js wanted tk if anyone else felt the same way
reading this back, I'm aware of how chronically online I am. yeah. still tho

Writeblr Last Line Tag Game / MHA Fanfiction / ShigaDeku Dystopia AU
@tiny-woooden-robot Omg, I feel so honored to be tagged in my first writing game on my fandom blog! Yay! This was way longer than a last line, but I think that's a good thing, haha.
When Tomura was a boy, he wanted to destroy the world and everything in it.
Then, he met the League, and many things changed.
Whether it was his encounter with Stain, growing closer to his comrades, or conquering the Liberation Army and unlocking the memories holding him back, Tomura wasn't entirely sure what caused the changes.
Simply that they had happened.
Tomura still wanted to destroy heroes, the society that created them, and all the NPC sheep who worshiped them like they were gods. But as he and the League grew and suffered together, Tomura realized he wanted to do more than just destroy everything he hated; he wanted to take the ashes of his conquest and create a world where his companion's dreams could be made into reality.
A world where outcasts like Tomura and his kind no longer had to hide in the bottom rung of society, living, dying, and killing by their own codes in the shadows, surviving off scraps simply to make it to another day. All while heroes were given fame, wealth, and power, so long as they performed the same violence that villains did, the same killing.
The only difference being that one was Commission-sanctioned violence, and the other was not.
But Tomura had changed that. No more false heroes, no more hypocrisy. No more hiding in shadows and living off scraps.
Tomura had accomplished his goal. He'd destroyed what he said he would, and was building a society that celebrated his kind instead of demonizing them. His family deserved more than scraps, and he would ensure they got everything they'd ever dreamed of.
But after that, Tomura decided he was done with big changes; his comrades turned family had softened him up just enough that he thought accomplishing his life goal and making their dreams come true would be enough for his fulfillment.
But then he showed up.
Again.
That naive, self-destructive, green-haired idiot.
The perpetual thorn in his side, fighting him tooth and nail in every way possible, even at the cost of destroying himself. The boy who'd earned Stain's respect and changed so many others, heroes, villains, and civilians alike.
But ultimately, the little fool hadn't been able to stop him. And regardless of the reason he'd shown up this time, Tomura knew one thing for certain: Midoriya Izuku was nothing.
And he would change nothing.
With absolutely no pressure to respond I'll tag @lenniereadsalot @mikeellee @laarbybarbtbox @sendothetaurus (I think you'll like Shiggy's POV)

Wait wait wait I could be wrong but ??
spoilers for the latest mha episode and forward
Ok, so the new opening shows what looks to be the Uraraka/Toga fight, does this mean we get doomed yuri this season???? Because I would love for that to be the case. This opening(and season and manga in general) seems to focus on parallels, with a wide shot of Shigaraki and Deku, a shot of Touya standing in front of Endeavor while Shoto stands in front of the rest of their family, two shots of Spinner and Shoji respectively, and the one most significant to this post, two mirrored shots of Ochako and Himiko, sitting in the same position, their younger selves behind them.
In fact, the opening focuses a lot on childhood. The shot of Tenko and Izuku shows their child selves, their first appearances, until finally their current appearances. Touya and Shoto parallel in their childhood, in the abuse they suffered at the hands of Endeavor, so of course their younger, child selves will be important. Shoji and Spinner are both heteromorphs, and will also face off later on. And Himiko has been mistreated since she was young, and that manifests in their conversation, Himiko just being a little girl who wants to be accepted, and Ochako a little girl who is fully ready to accept her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And finally, we get a shot of them floating, during the scene where they finally have that chat about romance. It really seems like we’re getting the HimiOcha scene in this season. After all, the other fight we see, between Dabi and Shoto, is this season, and Deku will presumably get there to start the battle against Shigaraki, so it only makes sense that the last parallel, Uravity and Toga, would also have their scene.
(Look, I actually have reasoning that isn’t just the fact that I want animated sapphics)

Thelreads, MHA 285, Replies Part 2
1) “tell me Horikoshi, what happened to the other kid the one that had a flying quirk tell me you didn’t, for example, turn him into a nomu and then killed him without us realizing, right? tell me because not showing us the other kid here would make it seem like you don’t want us to remember him”- Honestly, given the shit the kids already have to deal with in the current situation, and just how many people Garaki has no doubt transformed into Nomua, I’m not sure if that will ever be clarified to the kids. It’s another traumatic event for them to deal with when they’re already being subjected to so much trauma in the present, and just like All Might’s withholding information for Izuku’s wellbeing – and Mic is no doubt gonna have to do the same for Aizawa concerning the truth of Shirakumo’s death – they simply might not tell the kids if it ever gets found out.
2) “Bakugo, is it just me, or are you just having your whole life flash before your eyes as you approach the two calamities locked in a duel to the death? I was joking about it before you know, you don’t need to actually jump there and die, you know?”- He took that as a personal challenge.
But here, we see both the good and bad that’s come of OFA, how it allowed Izuku to stand up to Bakugo’s bullying, even when he went as far as taunting him to jump off a roof, and make him acknowledge his rival’s strengths….
3) “jesus fucking christ look how battered my kid is”-
…Contrasted against how he’s become from indulging in that strength without limitation, pushing himself into a ragged mess out of his mania to save everybody, beleivng it’s all on him and no-one else can do it. Blessing and curse, both in one.
4) “Yeah Bakugo, you always knew he would turn out like this, didn’t you? There was never a way to keep Midoriya away from this fate, quirkless or not.”- When Izuku gained the power, he gained so much from it.but he never gained enough self-respect to properly control himself when his emotions are pushed to the breaking point. For all the good he’s doing in damaging Tomura and holding him back, he’s taking on irreversible damage with every blow, all without thinking it through. Bakugo’s face shows all the concern that Izuku should have for himself, but doesn’t, in part because of how worthless he’s been made to feel from being born Quirkless.
5) “AND HE GRABBED HIM TARGET SECURED, NOW IT’S TIME TO BURN LIKE THE FUCKING SUN LOOK AWAY FOLKS, THINGS ARE ABOUT TO GET… SHINY”- The backup plan was to use float and OFA as propulsion to launch Tomura into the sun, but why go that far when Endevour can just make his own?
6) “IT’S HIM IT’S FUCKING HIM HE’S TAKING OVER SHIGARAKI NOW THAT HE’S ABOUT TO DIE JESUS NO”- The dramatic irony present from the heroes not realising that Tomura’s effectively the one fetter holding back AFO and his decades of experienced handing of his Quirk from running amok with his new and very durable body. They tried their best to beat Tomura. They succeeded.
7) “WELL AT LEAST HE WASN’T TURNED TO DUST, JUST IMPALED WITH LETHAL FORCE.”- That’s how we know who’s in command. Tomura would just dust Endeavour, but AFO will make the execution bloody and painful.
8) “OH GOD OH FUCK THAT’S NOT SHIGARAKI ANYMORE THAT’S DEFINITELY NOT SHIGARAKI ANYMORE HE TOOK OVER”- And as Tomura’s control slips away, so too does his face, leaving only the black human-shaped being that is AFO in command, his exterior a mirror of his twisted soul within, faceless and malevolent as always, no matter the age of his current target.
(MHA ch 261) 9) “What did he asked you? To make sure they were dead? Well, its not like you werent planning to give them the oldouble tap anyway, right? Nothing is dead enough that you cant kill it again.”- This statement only becomes more ironically appropriate as Tomura’s durability keeps holding him together despite everything. The man’s practically a cooked corpse here and he’s coming back from even that, and with his body staring to fall to bits like a literal Zombie’s.
10) “BAKUGO YOU BETTER NOT DO SOMETHING STUPID CONSIDERING WE’RE DEALING WITH AFO NOW DON’T JUMP IN AND GET YOUR QUIRK STOLEN, BECAUSE YOU FUCKING KNOW THIS CAN HAPPEN”- Hitting AFO in Tomura’s durable shell does nothing, but hitting the target out of the way….
11) “IS THAT ANOTHER FLASH OF YOUR LIFE BEFORE YOUR EYES BAKUGO I SWEAR TO FUCKING GOD IF YOU GET YOURSELF KILLED I’M GOING TO FUCKING SCREAM”- Better warm those pipes up, it’s time to hit the high notes.
(MHA ch 276) 12) “Oh wow this does not bode well for the new big three, considering how were seeing their family members… Its like one of them is gonna die, but considering how Shoto is away from the killzone, we have a 50/50 chance of it being either Midoriya or Bakugo. I vote Bakugo, because of course I would.”- Your vote was counted, the sacrifice accepted…
(MHA ch 276) 13) “Bye bye kids, have fun as far away as fuckily possible, we don`t want any of you two dying today. Wait until Shoto get here so we have a 1/3 chance instead.”- Well, Shoto arrived, and now Bakugou’s been shishkabobbed.
14) “JESUS FUCKING CHRIST I CAN’T BELIEVE BAKUGO IS FUCKING DEAD AS IS ENDEAVOR AND SHIGARAKI BECAUSE AFO IS BACK THROUGH HIM CHRIST WHAT THE FUCK WAS THIS ALSO, HA HA FOR THE TITLE. YEAH BAKUGO IS RISING, RISING TOWARDS THE FUCKING PEARLY GATES WHAT IN THE FUCK”-
“Rising”
The arc words used alongside “origin” to mark the point wherever somebody performs a truly heroic and selfless action that elevates the from being somebody who merely took the career of a hero to actually being one in the flesh.
And just in case the Bakuagnst in this chapter wasn’t enough, here’s the volume cover.
Tumblr media
He’s been thinking about the wrongdoing he did to Izuku for a long time, wondering how different they could have been if he’d only had to courage to reach out to Izuku as well…. NOTE: Oh, before I forget, there was actually somebody on reddit named Doodlelotl who made a few MHA chapter summeries when these were coming out the first time. They only go up to like, 337 or so, but they're pretty enjoyable. Sadly i forgot to upload them when they first became relevant, but I can patch them in here.

I don't know what to say about it, because I thought it was pretty obvious.
They're both superpowered tenth-grade* bullies who focus their bullying on the protagonist of their respective series, justified by a worldview that puts them above said protagonists. Bakugo has his nascent Quirk supremacism or whatever you'd call it; he thinks he's great because he has a great Quirk, and because other people talk about how great his Quirk is. Sophia has her predator-prey nascent social "Darwinism". Despite this supposed superiority, their greatest victim ultimately surpasses them, due only in part to the superpowers they got earlier that year.
There are significant differences, of course, most of which revolve around the fact that Horikoshi finds Bakugo more sympathetic and deserving of forgiveness than Wildbow finds Sophia. Bakugo is written as a fundamentally good kid who was mislead, with genuine heroic passion and a flawed idea of heroism which is rectified fairly easily. Sophia is more stubborn, interpreting Taylor finding the strength, cunning, and friendship to beat her as validation of her worldview. Also, Wildbow shows that the bullying Taylor faced left emotional scars on her, while Izuku is basically fine.
Which fits pretty well with the tone of the two series and how they treat redemption. The other big "redemption" in HeroAca is Endeavor, who is pretty similar to Armsmaster...except with more child abuse, and a bit less substance to his redemption arc. (No point where he almost loses everything due to how shitty he had been, for instance.) MHA is the creative grandchild of Dragon Ball, Worm of Watchmen.
TL;DR: They're bullies with similar worldviews. There's a bit more to it than that, but it's mostly providing more details about those two similarities. Hopefully this answers your questions.
*The Japanese school system has four years of middle school and three of high school, while American schools have the reverse. So Izuku/Bakugo and Taylor/Sophia are in the same school year, even though the former are freshmen and the latter sophomores.

Izuku should be grateful that AFO wasn't really involved in his life if AFO really is his dad, he's such a terrible person, look at how he treated Yoichi. AFO has all the traits of an abusive narcissist sociopath and he would make a terrible parent. (though being narcissistic and sociopath does not make one automatically evil, AFO just chose to act evil.)
Warning: long post! 😆
So while I agree with you to some point and understand where youre opinion is comming from, there are some points I dont agree with you, mainly your point about afo being an terrible man turning him automatical into a terrible parent. Okay, so dont get me wrong, I think we can all agree that afo will NEVER win a "best dad of the year" reward, no matter what his feelings for his son may be, BUT while afo is absolutely all the things you called him, that doesnt mean he would be a terrible father, if he had been a part of izukus life. So let me explain.
People in mha are more then just pure evil or pure good. Look at all might, even HE had his dark moment in his fight with afo, going for the kill. While his actions are obviously understandable, a hero is NOT supposed to kill and even all might was horrefied of his actions afterwards. But the best example we have is endaevor. Before the whole touya reveal, endaevor was a very respected hero with a huge fanbase. By far not as popular as all might, but still a lot of people loved him. Because they only knew "endaevor the hero" and not "enji todoroki the father." I know a lot of people dont want to accept that, but endaevor is actually a very good hero! He wasnt the nr 2. for no reason. He IS good at his job! Throu out his whole carrier endaevor saved a lot of people and captured many villains. So if we go by that, it means that endaevor is actually a pretty good person, right? Because he saved so many people and while he was always kind of a grumpy guy, he is right there as soon as someone needs his protection. Thats endaevor "the hero". The man other people see. But we readers knew since almost the beginning thats not really who endaevor is. While he is a good hero, saved many lives, he is a TERRIBLE father, a TERRIBLE husband, abused and neglected his children for many years, never gave his wife the support she needed and saw his children for the most part as experiments to fullfill his own lifegoals. So all of a sudden this good man, this great hero, doesnt sound so great anymore, right? Thats because humans are complex creatures and something like pure good or pure evil doesnt exist. Endaevor the great hero and enji the abusive and terrible father are one and the same person. He was cruel to his family, but also saved and protected a lot of innocent people from villains. In other words endaevor is an all grey character. There are good and bad things about him. He has done good things for others, but also treated his family like shit.
So now lets go back to afo and use the same logic here. If a hero, a "good person", someone fighting on "the good side", can have his dark secrets and do evil things to his own family, WHO says an "supervillain", someone fighting for "the bad side", cant harbour some positive feelings for others and treat his (secret) family with love and respect? Is afo evil? Is he a terrible TERRIBLE man? A bastard? Absolutely! But that DOESNT mean he would be a terrible father too and treat his family like shit! History showed multible times that massmurderers, terrorists, dictators etc. While doing unforgivable disgusting things to others, can love the people close to them. Take hitler for an extreme example. I dont think I have to say much about all his crimes, everyone knows them and still hitler loved eva braun and loved his german shepard lady "blondi". In fact hitler loved his dog SO MUCH he cried when he had to kill her, so she wouldnt be shoot or tortured by his enemys. So you see, even the most evil and disgusting asshole who ever set his foot on this earth was able to feel love for a woman and his DOG!
Okay, sorry, I digress from the actual topic. What I want to say is pretty simple: we have absolutely NO IDEA what kind of father afo would be to izuku, because we never saw him act like one to this point. Every time I hear or read that afo "adopted" tomura or that he is his "father substitute", I cant help but role my eyes. Afo IS NOT and NEVER intended to be tomuras father. AFO DOESNT CARE ABOUT TOMURA! When he took tomura in, he made already clear what their relationship will be like. That of an teacher and his student. He told him to call him "sensei" NOT "dad" or "father". Afo doesnt love tomura, he doesnt sees him as his son or son substitute. Tomura is nothing more then afos puppet. A vessel for the afo quirk. Nothing more. Never will be more. He also made sure to have backup kids in orphanages as a vessel, should ever something happen to tomura. That doesnt sound what a father would do, right? Because afo has absolutely ZERO father feelings for tomura or any of the children in the orphanages. You cant be a father to someone, you dont have father feelings for. And now back to izuku. So lets just say dfo is canon okay. Due to the fact that we never saw afo in a father role, we still have no idea what kind of father he would be to izuku. It depends what he feels for him. If he cares and loves him or not. But even IF he loves him, we saw with yoichi what afos love is like. He is able to love, but its toxic and borderline obsession. Still love, not just the way you should feel for someone else.
And because we dont know yet what afos father feelings for izuku are like, we cant say right away he would be a bad father. I dont think he is a "good" father, but personally I believe he was a "decent" and a loving father before he "left overseas". Like, him and izuku playing together, talking like excited nerds about quirks, watching tv together, him tugging izuku in and reading him a bedtime story, fooling around with him and comforting him after he was again beaten up by bakugou and his lackeys (and makes sure that at least one of them gets what they "deserve" in his eyes, for hurting HIS son, right little tsubasa?!) We also need to remember that right now, afo is in his villain modus. Right now he is not hisashi the father and husband, but afo the supervillain. He cant just go to izuku and give him a hug (I would pay good money to see that 🤣), because afo still wants his goals and dreams fullfilled and izuku is trying to prevent that. So while afo choose to be evil, he also choose for some reason to start a family (if dfo is canon). And not only did he decide to marry a woman he STILL IS married to, but also fathered a child with her AND supports them financielly with HIS money. Warns izuku multible times for choosing a thorny path for himself, lures all might in kamino AWAY from the children hiding behind the broken wall, speaks affectionate about the 40 year old macallan (inko) he ordered the aoyamas to bring to him. There are hints that afo cares for his family, but they are subtle enough to go unnoticed by most readers, espicially if you are not fluent in japanese.
Also I just want to point out how we still only got bad fathers with a bigger role in the story so far. Endaevor, kotaro, hawks father (forgot his name). While we have seen fathers of other ua kids like ochakos or bakugous, not one of them plays a bigger part or had more then 10 picture paneltime in the whole manga. We need a counter balance to endaevor and co. Otherwise dfo will just be the next todofam plot in the story and I think after 377 chapters thats just enough. Let dfo be something new. Let afo unlike endaevor be a loving father, who deeply cared for his family and loved them (in his own messed up way) and is ready to burn down the whole world for them. Let afo love izuku so the drama and struggle between them will make the story so much more exciting.

Tumblr media
WHEN YOU COMFORT THEM THE MOMENT THEY BREAK DOWN: MIRIO TOGATA, TENYA IIDA, KATSUKI BAKUGO
Tumblr media
MIRIO TOGATA
there was no way that mirio was completely fine after everything that had happened to him
he had lost his quirk, experienced a battle that could result in permanent trauma, and he lost nighteye-- the leader and hero that he had looked up to for so long
but when you told him that it was okay to be strong all the time, mirio had broken
he broke for the first time in what felt like years
“don’t worry a-ahbout me!”
the saddest part about it?
he was smiling through his tears not even a few moments after his grin broke
his lips were trembling, his eyes were red and his entire body was shaking with suppressed sobs, but he had an unwavering smile.
and that... that was heartwrenching to look at.
his smile fell, his body trembled and he let out a strangled sobbut for some reason, this-- none of it had shown a single trace of weakness. it was a way of him to express very human emotions and reactions as everyone else could.
he wasn’t disappointing nighteye in anyway-- more of showing respect by letting it all out to be able to show genuine smiles in public
how come such human emotions were labeled as good or bad?
“i let him down,” mirio gasped, “i let him down, i hurt him, i could have saved him, and-”
“hey, it’s okay, you’re going to be okay. it’s just me baby, it’s just me,” you cooed as you wrapped your arms around him. “shhh, it’s just me. you’re okay.”
mirio’s hands trembled as he gripped tight onto you
his chest was getting tighter as he burst into struggled breaths. he was just so... tired.
a million thoughts zipped through his head at once, but he just had to calm the storm for a while in your arms
TENYA IIDA
it was right after the accident in hosu city, and everything, everything had gone wrong
even though he didn’t show it at first, he felt used as an advertisement for hatsume, and then losing in a battle with todoroki and felt like he was thriving on dumb luck
he just wanted to make his brother proud, that was-
-if he could, anymore.
he felt so weak for letting himself feel this way, his head racing and chest heaving as he struggled to breathe
letting your guard down will just make things worse. tensei wouldn’t want this.
tenya’s body visibly trembled as he let out a shaky breath in his dorm room, thinking everything over in the darkness
“iida?” you asked, knocking on the door.
immediately, his demeanor changed as he shifted over to a braver face.
“hello, y/n!”
just breathe. they’ll be gone sooner or later. breathe.
“why are you up this late at night?” he asked.
“i was just checking in on you, but i should be asking you the same question, sonic boy,” you grinned, until you noticed his hands trembling.
and for some reason, that hurt you. his face was.. so put together with a brave smile, confident eyes, and his head held up high and posture straight and firm
but when you saw his hands trembling and an odd shifting in his chest, you knew something was up
“are you okay?” you tested the words.
tenya tried. he tried so, so hard to smile and affirm with a confident, “yes!”
but he couldn’t.
“i-i’m not- i’m not sure-,” his voice broke into a whisper.
“i don’t know.”
you melted into a hug next to him as you took a seat. “hey, you can tell me anything, okay? it’s okay not to have your guard up all the time, it’s not weak to show emotion. just- if you want, can you tell me what’s been going on?”
tenya took a shaky breath and pushed up his glasses. “of course, thank you for asking, i will.”
KATSUKI BAKUGO
after his fight with deku, all of the willpower left in him to hold himself together disappeared
katsuki had been exhausted after a long day of fighting, not just physically, but emotionally
he had tried to keep his head high for as long as he could, but the moment he went to his dorm room, he just... broke.
angry tears released and he choked out heavy, strangled sobs as he pounded his fist to the ground in frustration
katsuki cursed towards whoever was there, until he found you standing behind him
he was too tired to argue.
“the fuck are you doing here,” he grumbled.
“is something wrong, 'suki?” you whispered. “i was just coming by to drop off your water bottle, you left it during hero training,” you examined his face. “are you- are you okay?”
he loved you, he really did-- but today just wasn’t a good day. “mn-no,” he managed to say.
his chest was heaving and his eyes seemed to be searching the room, as if looking for an exit.
you noticed the dark circles around his eyes and the way his lips trembled. had he been crying?
you slowly cupped his face in your hands, noses touching as you two shared breaths, inhaling and exhaling together
katsuki was too tired to pull away.
he felt so weak.
you could hear katsuki’s breath shaking but slowly dying in volume as he held him tighter
“hey,” you said softly, brushing your thumb across his cheek. “you’re gonna be okay ‘suki. you’re gonna be okay.”
they’re pitying me.
“this?” you said, holding his bruised hand up and motioning towards his trembling figure. “this isn’t weak.” you said, as if reading his mind. “this is strong. this is brave. being emotionally vulnerable is one of the most courageous things anyone can ever do, and you are so much more than that, m’kay?”
he nodded in response. even though he didn’t express it that well, he thought of it
WHEN YOU PROMISE TO STAY: TOMURA SHIGARAKI, HAWKS, DABI
Tumblr media
DABI
everyone shut up i love him
all that he’s ever wanted and asked for in life was for someone to notice him for who he genuinely was, to be free to do whatever he pleased
it was late at night and you two were outside, the moon illuminating in the darkness as you slid against the wall of the city in the back of the building
“anything interesting happen?” you asked, staring up into the moon
the night was young and it had been a rough, terrible day at work for both of you, even though you had separate jobs and shfits-- the only thing that pushed you forward everyday was being able to meet with dabi right after, at exatly 11pm.
sure, you did it every day, and it shouldn’t have been that impactful-- but for some reason, somehow, everything about talking to him was so... exhilerating.
he didn’t reply.
“uhhm,” you shuffled nervously toward him. “dabi, you good?”
he let out a shaky exhale, which was odd.
hold the phone.
no, really, someone hold the phone because it was ringing
“oh, sorry, one sec,” you rushed, hurrying to answer. it was one of your co-workers. “hello!”
“uhuh. yeah. oh, cool... got it, mhm, be right ther-”
you noticed how dabi’s body language immediately changed as he turned around and crossed his arms gently over his chest and stared into the sky.
this really, really wasn’t like him.
something had to be wrong.
“uhm, on second thought,” you said. “does tomorrow at... noon work for you? i have plans. yeah. mhm, sorry not tonight. yep, bye!”
dabi’s eyebrows furrowed, but he didn’t look at you. “who was that?”
“one of my coworker buddies or whatever. they wanted to have a drink with me, but i said no.”
“why’d you say no?” he deadpanned.
“uhhhm, well, you certainly don’t seem very... how should i say this, at your fullest?”
“but why?” dabi said. “you meet with me every day, and going with your friends is probably a lot easier than this. what’s so different about it..?”
you thought carefully as you shrugged casually, gently leaning your head against his shoulder. “if one of my closest pals were down, i couldn’t just... leave them like that. and even though i know you won’t tell me what’s wrong, i just.. i just don’t want you to feel alone, you know? like everyone in your life has left? and i- i don’t want to do that to you.”
even though dabi stayed relatively quiet for the rest of the night,
just know that was the day he fell in love with you.
SHIGARAKI
nightmares were the worst.
for the record, he didn’t get them often, but when he did, and actually reacted to it... they ended up terrible
he gasped, grasping at the air for his mother’s embrace only to be met with nothingness
he clawed at his skin as his breath hitched, trying to control himself
“tomura?” you asked. “...are- are you okay?”
“get away from me,” he trembled. “i’m a... i’m a monster.”
you furrowed your eyebrows in concern. “hey, hey, c’mon. what’s going on-”
“leave me alone.”
his sudden change in tone made you jump as you stepped back and you watched his figure tremble.
“shigaraki.”
“if something’s wrong, don’t sugarcoat it. if something’s wrong, please, for the love of the world, tell me, okay? i just- i just want to see you... maybe..”
“what?” shigaraki deadpanned. “happy? satisfied? content? joyful? you people all want the same thing.”
“hopeful.”
shigaraki looked up.
“i want to see you hopeful, m’kay? so just... please. you don’t need to tell me word-for-word, but-- if you need something, i’m here.”
he was not going to cry. nuhuh. no way. no way was he going to start crying.
you wrapped your arms around him before he cautiously hugged back, letting himself slowly melt into your embrace, his satin gloves against your clothes
“hey. i promise you, i’m never going to be leaving. no matter how much you mess up, no matter how terrible you may feel-- you mean the world to me. please hold on just a little longer.”
HAWKS
it wasn’t supposed to happen until later, when he was actually able to get home and prepare himself for anxious feeling in his stomach to finally settle
but noooo, his mental state really just said yolo
so here he was, reliving his entire childhood with memories that he’d pushed down for so long, about to snap in a matter of seconds
“keigo~!”
your familiar voice rang through his head.
he just wanted to be held by you.
the most beautiful part about being with hawks his that he genuinely didn’t care about his pride around you. he wasn’t insecure of what you thought of him. he didn’t freak out or try to act like he was fine when you were with him, because... why would he need to?
so instead of putting on a brave face and getting scared of your voice as if being anxious was a crime, he melted into it.
“hey angel, i got you some food at the-”
“y/...y/n,” his breath hitched. your voice, that you often said you were insecure about-- was his safe haven. he felt safe when he heard your voice and let himself crumple. he didn’t have to worry about putting his walls up, because it was just you.
beautiful, loving, kind you.
his love was something special that he gave to no one else.
“k-keigo!”
even though you were far from him, your bags in hand and everything, you immediately dropped them and ran to your boyfriend
“hey, hey, baby, what’s going on?”
he stood directly in front of you, his head down and not saying a word.
you let your breathing sync with his as you reached out to hold his hand, when he threw his arms around you before his trembling body was held in your embrace
“-hey,” you said, shocked by the sudden embrace, before you hugged back, slowly, rocking him back and forth. “you’re going to be okay.”
“you don’t have to tell me anything, just-- focus on me,”
“i’m never leaving you, okay? no matter what you do, you’re still going to be my hero.”
and hawks decided on that day that out of anything else in the world, you meant the most to him.
WHEN YOU TELL THEM THAT THEY MATTER: TAMAKI AMAJIKI, MASHIRAO OJIRO, SHOTA AIZAWA
Tumblr media
TAMAKI AMAJIKI
useless. useless. useless.
why wouldn’t his stupid quirk activate before? why couldn’t he be more optimistic? why was he always thinking about something else? why couldn’t he ever stay positive and cheery like everyone else?
how was everyone else so strong?
but laying in a hospital bed, in complete silence and vulnerability...
that scared him.
tamaki blinked back the sudden tears that prickled against his eyes-- nuhuh, no way was he about to cry when so many other people had it worse, no way he was going to break down when nighteye was dead, he was not about to cry if mirio could be strong and so many other people had it worse, and-
“tamaki, snap out if it!”
your cold hands cupped his face, as you stared him directly in the eyes. “what are you doing?”
tamaki jumped back at your sudden question. but for some reason, the way you said it wasn’t angrily, more like... a statement? a question? as if you were asking are you okay?
tamaki shook his head. “i don’t... i don’t kn-know..”
get away, get away, get away.
your hands brushed back a hair from his face as you crouched down in front of him, your hands still helping him cool down. they rested gently on his scalp and along his face as you felt his breathing grow uneasy.
“listen,” you began slowly. “i’m not saying you need to tell me what’s going on, but... i just- i have a feeling that you’re not doing okay. and i know that because no one was ever really there for me back then, so if you want to say anything--”
“--i’m here for you.”
tamaki crumpled then as he let the tears fall.
his entire mask shattered as his breath hitched, trying to hold back the sobs but only came out as strangled breaths.
“hey, hey, hey, you’re okay, you’re okay.”
you held up his chin and rocked him back and forth, slowly. “just because other people seem to be going through bigger things doesn’t mean that you should invalidate your problems. if something’s hurting you, that’s enough of a problem to take care of it.”
tamaki began to shake as he suddenly clutched onto you, his body trembling as he nodded.
what would mirio, nejire, nighteye, fatgum-- what would they think of him now?
“whatever is going around in your head right now will all quiet soon, i promise you, ‘mkay?”
“it’s okay. it’s okay. you’re okay.”
AIZAWA SHOTA
“you didn’t eat,” you said, staring at the takeout that was left in its packaging.
you heard shota mumble under his sleeping bag. “i’ll eat after.”
“after what?” you said back from the kitchen.
you weren’t exactly mad at him, you could say-- it was more of disappointment, maybe? concern? he had always been so concerned about his students that he forgot to take care of himself-- no wonder why he was so angry lately.
(and no, it wasn’t his resting face, he was genuinely burnt-out the last couple of days and it wasn’t getting better.)
“shota, come on,” you said softly. “or else i’m taking your sleeping bag away from you.”
aizawa’s head emerged from the bag, the light from the laptop giving a lovely display of his eyebags. “oh?”
he smirked, even though he seemed so drained.
“yes,” you said, pointing your nose up in the air and crossing your arms. “and you better go eat before i take it away.”
aizawa raised an eyebrow, but obliged.
you watched him eat, but he kept his laptop on the table the whole time.
he was looking through the profiles of all his students, and that was-- insane
despite how much had happened to him, he always thought of someone else first, putting everyone else above him.
“you’re going to overwork yourself,” you finally said.
“amazing,” aizawa sighed back. “had no clue.”
“oh, c’mon,” you egged. “you matter too, ya know.”
you noticed how tense his shoulders were, how his gaze was fixated to the screen and the way his veins were protruding from lack of sleep, and how red his eyes were.
sure, most of the time, this was normal-- but you just had this gut feeling that something was wrong.
“i suppose you’re not wrong,” aizawa ventured. “but sometimes, you realize that students make up most of the world. i want them to grow..”
his gaze on the screen broke.
“and for them to know a world of love and kindess, not-- whatever this is.”
you looked at him before wrapping your arms around him and kissing his forehead. “but they have a teacher who works so hard already, and you-- you deserve a break. you’re always working so hard, and you have to remember that you matter, too, okay?”
you smiled sadly. “i need to go to work, but please finish the takeout for me, hmm?”
he never told you this, of course-- but yeah, he thought of your voice every time he wanted to take a break. he never forgot the words you said.
MASHIRAO OJIRO
being forgotten was something that came way too easily for him.
everyone in class 1a was so good at everything-- they all either had good looks, a nice voice, talents, a cool quirk, technique, charisma, and he?
ojiro felt like he didn’t have anything.
but what did it matter, right? being the forgotten one was fine to him, at least. he was able to take time for himself.
...kind of.
he was heading back from ua into the dorms, walking alone when he realized it started to rain.
picking up his bags, he ran, putting them under his shoulders so that they didn’t get wet-- it wasn’t a long walk, but it was a lot to have to run back and make sure everything stayed dry
“wait!”
ojiro turned around to find you, carrying your backpack in the air and waving your arms. “slow-” you panted, “down! god, where’d all the rain come from??”
he chuckled slightly, until he noticed your bag getting soaked, and before he knew it, ojiro called you over and said he could carry your bag
“are you sure?” you asked, in-between breaths. “i doubt you can carry both-”
ojiro laughed and waved his tail like a hand. “i can carry it.”
your face lit up. “thanks! okay, now let’s run back, c’mon.”
you two ran as fast as you could, trying not to slip as the rain began to pour even harder against your backs.
but when you opened the doors to the dorms and your bag was completely dry, ojiro smiled.
(also y’all he’s an underrated king DO Y’ALL KNOW HOW PRECIOUS HIS SMILE IS?? PLS-)
“thanks,” you grinned. “your quirk is actually really cool. not just for keeping stuff dry, but uh, thanks. i appreciate it.”
something inside of him made his heart swell.
“really?” ojiro asked. “do you really- is that true?”
he didn’t want to get his hopes up too quickly, but the way you nodded proudly and affirmed it was something he could never forget.
“yeah!” you said. “just because you’re not flashy as other people doesn’t mean that you’re a plain, boring person, you know that? you’re actually really cool!”
“huh. thanks,” he noted-- and don’t worry, he walked back into his dorm room with a grin on his face the whole time.

I'm having a lot of difficulty with what to do with Bakugou in my rewrite, like it would be cool to make him have a healthy rivalry with Izuku, but at the same time, that would be very cliché and that would only benefit his and BKDK stans. Since I'm planning my rewrite, the main focus is to give Izuku the love and respect he deserves, since his own creator never seems to have given him that, if you see, I'm thinking of how I can do it fair to the character of Izuku, besides, I'm thinking of making Bakugou just a minor antagonist (He's not even Izuku's main rival, I'm thinking of giving that to Shoto or Tenya), like Izuku showing Bakugou that he's not that boy who's going to accept the abuse he put Izuku through. But there are times the ideas I'm planning for Bakugou, can be something, how can I say… sadistic. Like I know he's just a teenager, but even so, I have no sympathy for him, him being a teenager doesn't make him any less of an abuser, that's something his stans don't accept and never will (I accepted that stans don't want think about it). So would it be good to follow these ideas or simply remove him from the story early and ignore his existence?
I will say this, it's entirely okay to redeem Bakugou.
Some of my favorite replies/reblogs are from people who actually like him but also agree with or see my points because they genuinely do want Bakugou to grow and be better. One person was even like, "I liked Bakugou because he had a lot of narrative potential that was wasted" and it's like YES. YES HE DID.
Bakugou's role at the beginning of the story was two things: to be an obstacle for Izuku to overcome and be a prime example of the privileged individuals of the society in MHA. If you have your narrative call out how better Bakugou was treated all his life and that it gave him the means to be as awful as he was, you're golden. Bonus points if the rest of 1A- most of whom would have experienced that same privilege- call him out.
As long as you aren't obstructing Izuku's development to pander to Bakugou's, you're doing well

relationship headcanons ²
relationship headcanons part 1, part 2, part 3
what I think the mha boys would be like in a relationship
genderneutral!reader
trigger warning: fluff
Tumblr media
─ izuku midoriya
precious little bean ;-;
it took him months to make the first move
and I think it was love at first sight for him, he's a romantic person
when he finally decided to ask you out you had the exact same idea that day
both of you ended up talking on each other and stuttering until you finally understood what he was trying to say
the first month of your relationship was a little awkward
and even after one year of dating he's still a little shy
he's also very respectful and asks you every time if he can kiss you or not
he cried the first time you touched the scars on his hands and on his arms
as you already know he's an emotional boy and he might cry just because a date went perfectly well
he's a grabber
I don't care, he is a grabber, he grabs your hand, your arm, your waist or your ass (he can be really sneaky when he wants)
he calls you by cute pet names like bunny or honey
he likes dates but he doesn't care about the place, as long as he can spend time with you he's happy
but I think outdoors dates could definitely be his thing, like amusement park, the beach or a walk in nature
he's not jealous, he's more on the protective side but he also trusts you and knows that you're tough
he really admires your qualities and he often comes to ask you for your opinion about something that bothers him
he's touch starved
and he always blushes really hard whenever you initiate physical contact first
his weak spots are his shoulders, I don't know why, I just think it's his shoulders
his favorite place to kiss you is on top of your head, he just likes having you under him i'm sorry
he said I love you first
one day you were just stroking his green hair and a relaxed sigh came out of his mouth followed by a soft "I love you"
he did it unconsciously and he only started to realize what he had said when he felt your hands suddenly stop their movements
he apologized after that, yeah you hear me right, he apologized for making you choke on your own saliva by his sudden confession
little spoon or big spoon, it all depends on his mood
but he really likes holding you in his arms
marry him or I'll do it for you
─ denki kaminari
I think Denki fell for you very slowly, like a slow burn
at first he saw you as one of his coolest friend, you were totally in the friendzone
but then he noticed some details about you, the way you smiled, your cute laugh or your awkward jokes
he slowly realized that he was madly in love with you
and now he absolutely wants to catch up the time he lost by trying to figure out his own feelings
dates are one of his favorite things to do, you two have a secret spot at a small restaurant
yeah he's an extrovert but he loves getting to be somewhere quiet and calm with you, like that he can really enjoy your presence
he's very possessive, he doesn't like when people are a little too nice with you or when they call you by pet names
that's why he wraps his arm around your shoulders, hoping that everyone around would get the hint
but if someone still doesn't get it he just straight up tells them what's wrong
"Hey, I'm the only one who can call them like that."
he likes pda, he loves showing affection, people around or not, his favorite thing to do is kissing your nose
like that he can also tease you, he kisses your nose, your cheeks, your forehead but never your lips until you get impatient and pull him into a kiss yourself, which makes him laugh
he said I love you first and it was during training, he accidentally had a "short-circuit" while fighting against you
he said it in front of the entire class and you never felt more embarrassed in your entire life since you couldn't have a normal conversation with him after he had confessed his feelings
speaking of it, when he has his short-circuits you protect him from the mean comments of Katsuki or from Kyoka's teasing
a part of him is in love with you because you don't make fun of him, sure he can be dumb sometimes but you know he can be pretty smart too and he also has many others qualities
he worships you and genuinely compliments you every day
he really wants you to be comfortable around him and he can't stand seeing you in a bad mood or insecure
he loves to do your hair or just taking care of you in general
he can't cook to save his life, he always orders food for the both of you
sometimes he's the big spoon, sometimes he's the little spoon, it all depends on your mood
if you're sad or really tired he holds you close against his chest but he also loves when it's the other way around
I know he may not look like it but I think he's the ultimate boyfriend material
─ shota aizawa
*cry in daddy issues*
always in awe of your beauty, even if he doesn't show it
before you started your relationship you were completely oblivious to his feelings towards you
you've always thought that you were nothing more than a fellow pro-hero, until one day he asked you out on a date
nobody saw it coming, or maybe Present Mic did
he doesn't really care about pda, if he wants to touch you he will do it, people around or not
most of the time he wraps his arm around your waist or when he's tired he rests his head on your shoulder
speaking of shoulder, he has a weird obsession with your neck
he kisses it every time he has an occasion to
he does it mostly because he likes to feel you shiver under him
he said I love you first
it was just a random morning, he saw you waking up and smiled for himself, just happy to have you by his side and he spoke without thinking
dates are not really his thing, he prefers to stay in bed with you but he would make an effort for you
he pulls his hair in a bun and takes you to the restaurant
and this man is so fucking classy when he wants to, during the date he kisses your knuckles and he's a real smooth talker
but he also complains about his reckless students
he's the big spoon of course
he likes to literally trap you in his arms and bury his face in the crook of your neck
he's a fucking tease but only for you
as soon as he notices that something he said made you blush he will repeat it shamelessly
he takes nap on you, burying his face in your chest with a relaxed sigh
I think he can get really jealous even if he doesn't show it
he glares at the person who's hitting on you
"They're with me." He says, coming from behind you and grabbing your waist to interrupt whatever they were saying
please, take the opportunity, play with his hair and put hair clips on him, he won't mind I swear

Characters with wasted potential: Bakugo Katsuki (rant)
Look as much as I don't and I mean DON'T like bakugo I have to admit that Horikoshi's favouritism has caused the own downfall of his own favourite character which is just sad.
There are many things I don't like with bakugo which are :
HIS ATTITUDE. I know hori was going for the moody deuteragonist trope but it fails horribly when it comes to bakugo because the guy has NOTHING AND I MEAN NOTHING to be angry about. This guy basically won the lifes lottery so by making him like this he literally just comes of as an aggressive, ungrateful child.
HIS REDEMPTION ARC. His redemption arc was utter and complete BS I mean he literally still does bulky izuku and others but it's just being treated as a gag instead of him learning not to and why it's bad. Also what makes it so bad is the lack of izukus pov and personal thoughts/emotions about it like izuku is the victim so we should see his negative and positive emotions towards bakugo and we should see bakugo take all of these emotions and try his best to make it up to izuku and change
HIS INTERACTION WITH OTHER CHARACTERS. I have no idea what those MHA stats were but they were horrible and why is it that every single time bakugo interacts with a character they will end up thinking he is cool and worthy of respect when he CLEARLY ISN'T.
LACK OF CHALLENGES. In my opinion, as a character bakugo doesn't go through enough obstacles or challenges and if he does he always has someone who goes through it with him like his whole I caused all mights downfall thing or the failed provisional license exam thing were so horrible in my opinion
A LACK OF CONSEQUENCES. Bakugo lacks consequences for a lot of his actions like the suicide incident and many other things. The problem is when he does finally receive the consequences it's always him and another character which doesn't make sense especially when izuku also got house arrest for what? Defending himself.?!?!
Bakugo could of clearly been a well written character that would be involved in the plot when necessary. Honestly, I hate bakugo and if it were to me I would have him erased as a character from the plot or bring in ORIGINAL BAKUGO!!! Who was soooo much better then the canon bakugo we have now!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But if we were to go with the 1st option of keeping bakugos character the same I would :
Change his attitude or actually give him something to have that type of attitude. Honestly, it's so infuriating that this guy only knows how to be an angry Pomeranian and it irritates me even more when he has nothing to be angry about. I know it's said in the manga that bakugo has a nasty attitude due to whatever mixture of superiority and inferiority complex he has and while you can do that and explore it a whole lot more like how did this happen? Where does it stem from? And stuff like that. It would be good to do something like that and Involve/show how society contributes to making these type of people which you can then use to expand on the world building that MHA lacks in. Or alternatively, you can give bakugo a reason to be angry all the time but in my opinion you already have so many of those characters so it would be better to stick with the first option.
Make him have obstacles and more realisations while gradually propping and hinting at a redemption arc. In my opinion it should of taken the entirety of the series for bakugo to have a redemption arc and when that arc is finished DONT GIVE HIM HIS OWN VILLAIN TO FIGHT. If you wanted him to fight someone make him fight himself and his own ideas. Also I think his development should start from the moment he gets saved by izuku and all might from the sludge villain where we can see him realise that maybe he has been lied to and that he isn't as great as he thought he was or everyone thought he was. He can also try and start focusing on what he has done or what he has been doing and at first you can have him ignore it, ignore it, ignore it and still not change until he reaches rock bottom in one of the earlier arcs preferably early season 3 when he fails the final exams BECAUSE HE SHOULD OF AND JUSTICE TO SERO!!!
Change the way characters interact with him. At first I loved how class 1A didn't like bakugo and viewed him as annoying and all of that and I think this should of continued until bakugo himself starts seeking for change during the training camp arc. Probably also have aizawa and other teacher reprimand him for his actions like the battle trials we don't see Katsuki receive any consequences just him on a verge of a mental break down and that's it. Also, we should definitely have more of Katsuki and best jeanist because let's be honest it was only best jeanist that tried to help bakugo and guide him in the right direction. You could also have him interact with all might but scrap the whole I got kidnapped and ruined all mights career I find it better if it were izuku to get kidnapped during the training camp arc.
Give him CONSEQUENCES. Iam all for Katsuki getting consequences for his own actions and faults and I feel like he should of got them during the battle trials, failing the provisional license exam alone, the final exams(he should of failed that fight with all might). Also I don't think he should be expelled from UA but I do think he should have more of a severe consequence that's NOT him getting anger management classes or therapy because that's not really a punishment. The idea might work if you also add him getting house arrest or losing a clean record and getting those types of classes but just that doesn't work for me
Lack of challenges. Katsukis character arc would work great if we focused more on his challenges and him ACTUALLY LOSING and not winning all the time. Realistically speaking there are many challenges bakugo can go through which are: having to realise he isn't the best and there are people better then him, he should treat people with respect, his behaviour towards izuku and other kids he bullied was bad, him trying to differentiate himself from endeavour and become a better hero and human being then endeavour by redeeming himself, his superiority and inferiority complexes.
Overall, Katsuki in this role should of been someone who is arrogant and has basically won lifes lottery but then he gets into UA and realises "oh Iam not as special or stronger then everyone else" which could then cause him to become insecure aka que the superiority and inferiority complexes which he develops out of and slowly redeems himself and becomes a symbol of how society can create bad people by too much praise or just thinking they are superior and how these people can go on to them become heros or people that society is supposed to trust and praise when they don't deserve it. Something that bugs me is how katsukis character mainly focuses on just izuku and whenever izuku is mentioned Katsuki has to be mentioned or vice versa.
Also it would if been better if you emphasised on the Katsuki and endeavour Parallels and don't redeem endeavour but redeemed Katsuki. Also, have Katsuki and todoroki have a difficult relationship it's out of character for todoroki to get along with someone like Katsuki. You can then explore the relationship and have Katsuki change and todoroki interact a bit more with him or something of the sort.
ALSO WHEN WE GET AN APOLOGY LET IT NOT BE WHEN IZUKU IS ON THE VERGE OF DEATH AT HIS MOST VULNERABLE AND LET HIM HAVE SOME THOUGHTS ABOUT IT
Ps: this is my opinion!! And I think I could of done more justice for bakugo but Iam not his biggest fan so ... Yeah. If I missed something definitely add it !

Shinso Hitoshi: Victim of Discrimination? Part 1
Shinso Hitoshi. The most popular teen character in MHA who isn’t part of 1-A or the League of Villains. There are numerous fics and stories that have him as a main character or as a major supporting character, especially considering how little he’s actually in MHA itself. Of the 347 chapters of My Hero Academia published at the time of writing, Shinso directly appears (not counting flashbacks, mentions, etc.) in only thirty-one chapters. That is 8.9% of the MHA manga. Furthermore, he is only really important to two arcs, the Sports Festival Arc and the Joint Training Arc. He is, for all intents and purposes, a minor character.
Despite his lack of appearances, though he is quite popular. In the official Japanese popularity polls, he ranked, respectively: 12th, 14th, 10th, 23rd, 17th, 24th, 10th. On Archive of Our Own, one of the largest fanfiction archives in western fandom, especially English-language fandom, Shinso’s tag, as of March 15, 2022, has been used on 31,154 fics, making it the ninth most popular character tag.
Given the popularity of the character, combined with a lack of material in MHA about him, it is no surprise that a whole spate of fanon has grown up around Shinso. However, a lot of this fanon is not based on what we actually see in MHA itself. There is one specific point I wish to focus on in this post, that of Shinso being bullied by his peers and discriminated against by wider quirk society. I especially wish to focus on this given how often Shinso’s bullying is compared with Izuku’s treatment, either saying Izuku is the same as Shinso or was not treated as badly as Shinso was for the sake of woobification of Shinso. I intend to show that this is far from the case. There is another common fanon trope I would like to look at, that Shinso was raised in foster care, but I shall save that for another post. This one is going to be long enough as it is.
Before we begin, I should note a few things. First, I want to make it expressly clear that I am not shaming people for their writing choices. I love a lot of fics with these tropes for Shinso. They’re fun and provide great drama. There is nothing wrong with using these tropes. I’m just explaining how I interpret what we see in canon in contrast to the common fanon tropes, nothing more. If you go and send this post to writers, screaming about how they are terrible for writing Shinso in a way different from how this post interprets him, you are a terrible person and I want nothing to do with you. Do not use this to harass authors just trying to have a good time.
Furthermore, I will be relying exclusively on the manga’s version of events here. I have not seen the anime myself, so I cannot judge how it changes things with regards to Shinso. I will also be relying exclusively on the official VIZ Media localization of the manga, not on any fan translations.
Finally, I must give a huge shout-out and thank you to Samcalibur, my co-author on Little Owl. I had let fanon Shinso completely eclipse canon Shinso in my mind until she pointed it out when discussing how to write him in Little Owl. This post would not exist without her. Thanks for this, Sam! With all that said, let’s get started.
The most common fanon trope for Shinso, in my experience, has been to highlight him as an outcast from his peers. This includes him having zero friends before UA, him being specifically bullied for his quirk being “villainous,” teachers refusing to talk to him because of his quirk, and, in some fics, even having his middle school put a muzzle or gag on him during class to keep him from speaking and using his quirk.
A lot of fics that go to these extremes with Shinso often will paint an equivalence between how he was treated and how Izuku was treated by his classmates and society for being quirkless. However, when we actually see flashbacks to Shinso’s past during the Sports Festival, when he is explaining himself to Izuku during their match in true battle shonen fashion, how does Horikoshi depict him?
Shinso and Izuku fight in chapters 32 through 34 of the manga, during the Sports Festival Arc. These two chapters are where the bulk of the fanon that Shinso was bullied and discriminated against come from. Do the chapters bear this out? In a word, no.
So, in chapter 33, Shinso is goading Izuku to try and get him to respond again after Izuku breaks the brainwashing. He says that Izuku is lucky to have a quirk that lets him “enter the Golden Gates” that Shinso is not allowed through.
Tumblr media
However, nowhere in Chapter 33 does he bring up the idea of him being bullied for his quirk, just that Izuku, due to having a physical quirk, has a leg up with regard to the hero course that lets him follow his dreams (the second panel comes from chapter 34, but is part of the same conversation).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, he does not talk about his supposed bullying here. Instead, his bitterness is about how those with physical quirks are able to “follow all their dreams.” Shinso's resentment is about how the UA entrance exam is structured, not over how society is treating him or how his peers treated him. That begs the question, where did the bullying aspect come from? Given how prevalent it is in fandom, the answer is quite underwhelming. It’s a single page in Chapter 34:
Tumblr media
It is worth noting that, by all indications, this is an entirely internal flashback. Izuku himself is never actually told about this. Only Shinso and the audience are privy to this information.
This page is at the heart of the entire fanon about Shinso’s bullying, and it is incredibly underwhelming. To me, this does not read as someone who was horrifically bullied. This is standard First Day of School talk. I can see how Shinso would find this being constantly brought up annoying, but it is not bullying. This is the equivalent of having a odd name and having every joke about it memorized by fourth grade. Speaking from experience, yes, that is annoying, but it was not bullying. Hell, one of the students even flat out says they are jealous of Shinso’s quirk.
There is also a common point in fanon where Shinso is an outcast in 1-C for his quirk. However, this point is not just unsupported by canon, it is actively contradicted by it. We see some members of 1-C after Shinso’s loss to Izuku. Here’s what they have to say to him:
Tumblr media
Far from viewing him as an outcast, they’re proud of him! They call him the “shining star” of General Education. They think he is “awesome!” and they’re elated that he went so far. This is not what you say to an outcast you are afraid of, this is what you say to a classmate you respect and think highly of! Quite simply, there is little to no evidence that Shinso was bullied for his quirk, and certainly not for the fanon concepts of him being a complete outcast due to it. There is no chance that the Shinso of canon was muzzled to keep other students safe from him as some fics claim. By all indications, Shinso was accepted by his peers, both in middle school and in Gen Ed at UA.
For contrast, let us look at Izuku’s experiences, to which Shinso is often compared.
We see Izuku’s middle school days mainly in two places, Chapter 1 of MHA and the bonus two-part story Deku and Bakugo Rising, which is included in Volume 2 of My Hero Academia: Team-Up Missions. Let’s first look at Chapter 1 of MHA itself.
So, when does Izuku being bullied for being quirkless start? Page 1.
Tumblr media
Let’s make note of two specific things on this page. First, what Bakugo says to Izuku. “So Deku, the quirkless wonder, thinks he can play hero, huh?” Let me draw your attention to two pieces of information here. First, even at this early stage, Bakugo has already coined the nickname of Deku, likening him to a wooden doll that cannot do anything. He is already calling Izuku useless, worthless, and incapable of doing anything. Second, he is calling out Izuku’s quirklessness and him for “playing hero.” This shows that the bullying is both because of Izuku being quirkless and for him having the try to stand up to people with quirks, to "play hero," against his betters, those with quirks. Then he punches Izuku in the face while his long haired friend holds Izuku's head in place, both of them using their quirks. The use of their quirks is likely intentional, highlighting what they have that Izuku lacks. However, that’s just Bakugo and his cronies. Bakugo Katsuki, as shown throughout MHA but especially in recent, has a specific complex vis a vis Izuku. What about Izuku's other classmates later on? Did they also lightly tease him the way Shinso’s classmates did?
Well, here’s how they responded to the idea of Izuku applying for UA’s heroics program:
Tumblr media
The entire class laughs at him, mocking him for the entire idea of someone like him, someone quirkless, could be a hero. It gets even worse a couple panels later:
Tumblr media
There’s a lot to go into here with this panel, because there is some very striking visual storytelling going on here. First, the entire class is framed as a single mass, distinguishable only by their various quirks. This contrasts them specifically with the quirkless Izuku, whom they menacingly loom over. Izuku is on the ground beneath them, showing how he feels below them, framing them as villainous and him as small and weak. The only light spots in their silhouettes is the repeated word “heh,” showing they are still laughing at him. Finally, the word balloon. It is not tied to any specific person, not even Bakugo. Instead, it’s presented as the unanimous words of the entire class. They’re specifically asking him, mocking him, “what can you even do?!” with the word “do” specifically bolded. They are telling Izuku that he is completely useless, that he can’t do anything. This is bullying and discrimination. This is not the light teasing Shinso received.
We see this bullying on an individual level in Deku and Bakugo Rising with Bakugo’s two unnamed friends. In that story, set in Izuku and Bakugo’s second year of middle school, the two friends of Bakugo steal Izuku’s hero magazine and mock him for reading it (thanks to Ernand for the proper scans):
Tumblr media
They specifically mock him for wanting to be a hero when he is quirkless. Bakugo himself underlines this point a panel later, saying “since he’s quirkless, dreams’re all he’s got.”
Tumblr media
I have reached the image post limit for Tumblr, so I will have to split this post here. Next time, we will deal with how society treated Izuku and Shinso and close out this very long meta!
Until then, ἐρρῶσθαι!

What Is Love? - mha boys x reader - headcanons

Shoto Todoroki
Tumblr media
"What is love?" You asked him randomly one day as you two lounge down his bed.
"What do you mean?" His voice still carried the same tone as it always did, but the twinge of pink on his cheek told a different story.
"Like what is love to you?" You knew that a question like this might throw him off, but you didn't expect him to answer so quickly and confidently.
"It's when you feel happy with them," His hold on your hand tightened, "Like it feels like your floating and you never want to get down because they're happy too."
He looked at you with a raised eyebrow.
"Was that enough?" You smiled softly, gently kissing his cheek.
"More than enough."
---
Katsuki Bakugo
Tumblr media
"What is love?"
"Is this a trick question?" You sniggered, shaking your head.
When you two were alone he was much easygoing and not worried about other's opinions as much, so he looked at you shrugging.
"It's the feeling you get when you see someone and at that moment you know you'd do anything to protect that smile, to make sure they never hurt." He snuggled into your neck, playing with your fingers.
"You thinking about a certain someone?" You asked cheekily.
"'M always thinking about you." He whispered, kissing your jaw, setting your whole face aflame.
---
Izuku Midoriya
Tumblr media
"What is love?"
You watched as your boyfriend whipped his head around, staring at you quizzically.
"Is this a test?" You smiled as you shook your head, your fingers playing with his curly hair.
"Well," He thought for a second, kissing your forehead, "For me, love's when you realize that that person is truly making you see your worth and value and that you'd do anything to make that person see theirs." You blushed softly, looking up at him.
"You talking about 'lil old me?" You teased him but he nodded seriously, hugging you closer to his body.
"Who else would I be talking about? You're the only one for me."
---
Hitoshi Shinsou
Tumblr media
"What is love?" He looked up from the show he was watching, his eyes training in on you.
"You want the definition of what love is?" You nodded and he sighed deeply, moving from his seat, walking over to where you were sitting as he pounced on you, holding you next to him.
"My dear," He pecked your nose, "Love is but an allusion."
You groaned, smacking his chest as he chuckled deeply.
"No, seriously, what's love to you?" You looked at him with a raised eyebrow and he scratched his head.
"Like romantic love or family love?"
"Romantic." He nodded, thinking.
"That's simple, it's a certain type of respect you share with someone when you crack what sort of enigma they are. When you really trust them with certain things and they trust you with others, love is born."
"Are you always this poetic?"
"Only for you." And he pressed a soft kiss on your lips, making you let out a small giggle as he looked at you with what he described as love.
---
Keigo Tamaki
Tumblr media
"What is love?"
"Shrek is, babe." You rolled your eyes, hitting him over the head with a pillow.
"I'm serious! Like what does love mean to you?" He laughed, as he threw his phone to the side, leaning his head on his hand as he looked at you intently.
"Like what I feel for you?"
"Yeah, sure," He nodded, a small gleam appearing in his eyes, his hand unconsciously reaching for yours.
"It was when I came home from a really fucked up mission and you were sleeping in our bed and I knew it was worth what I did if I came home to you safe and sound."
You flushed, hiding your face in your chest but he tutted, pulling your away as he brought you into his side.
"You flatter me, my dear."
"Why, that's the whole point." And he tickled your sides, causing a fall of laughter to pour from your mouth, and he knew he was right.
It was all worth it in the end if he was able to have you.
