And it's only... 51 days late. It's fine it's fine#Thanks to everybody in the dfpu chat who helped me come up with stuff to doodle for the border. It was a big help and a lot of fun!#we really did recreate what is going on in the drawing!#also thanks to snails muffin and terror for the animation pointers & terminology#Smear frames were def the way to go! Not whatever I was trying to do before asking for help#I guess this counts as my first *real* animation so hooray!#I *might* use some of the remaining prompts for future drawings but at this point I have other things I want to work on#even though I was only able to finish a few of these I felt like I still learned a lot#it definitely got me into the habit of drawing every day#and I'm still doing that so this event was a big win in my book!#and no joke I really did color pick from the load cursor just so I could do the silly spinning thing

#loz#loz eow#the legend of zelda#echoes of wisdom#zelda#link#josh art tag#this took me waayyyy too long#but ive been meaning to do it for a while since honestly not long after posting my first design for Zelda#i ended up making this new one instead#so the last ref sheet has been outdated for a while#and people still reblog it sometimes!#i really like the new color palette for Zel#the last one just didnt feel as cohesive#also i love giving them brown eyes <3#like i am absolutely not trying to police how other people draw them or anything. at the end of the day its just eye color#but like#its a slight bummer when so many people give them blue eyes... a majority of links and zeldas have blue eyes (and blond/pale hair)#like the only real exception i can think of is botw/totk zelda having green eyes#and i get that pale hair and blue eyes do look good like they are a good combo#but i want some variety!! and with the toony artstyles u can choose any color and have it not necessarily be incorrect#with toony black eyes i usually go for brown/gray/black for eye color to sorta match the toony look somewhat#but i was also lowkey considering purple for zeldas eyes. cuz i could do anything really since all we have to go off of is toony black eyes#so like im not trying to be mean at all i just think its a missed opportunity to go for blue instead of other more unique options#and honestly blond and brown eyes is an underrated combo they look really good together#but yea so basically anyone who gives them brown eyes (or other unique colors) u r awesome and i appreciate u <3#but if u use blue thats valid too dont let me stop u if u really do like how they look with blue that isnt what im trying to do here

based on an idea @username8746489 had where sylvie discovered nightmare fuel for the first time on accident while getting bullied by some older kids (and pushing him further into social isolation now that he's known as "that scary kid who could summon someone's worst fear")
#♦️charlie's art#epithet erased#sylvester ashling#sylvie ashling#ok i have a lot to yap about here hold on#this was a challenge to make since i was imagining it with no dialogue and limited colors i hope i pulled it off#because of those two things something i had to think a lot about was how the color progression changes the mood#I wasn't originally gonna add that last panel with the aftermath but un suggested the idea of the bullies being vague shadowy figures#initially until sylvie realizes what he did and is forced to see that “that was a real person with their own fears and insecurities”#so then they're drawn more detailed#sylvie and the bullies also aren't in the same panels together until the last one because he's just so below them that he isnt worthy of#sharing equal space with them. these kids are highschoolers. if sylvie wants to look at them he'll always have to look up#and also because i was struggling with their height difference#i hope the second page doesn't make it look too much like sylvie summoned a fire 😭 it kinda helps with the mood but what he summoned is#supposed to be ambiguous and i dont want it to look like i was born yesterday and think nightmare fuel ONLY summone fire#but its hard to make it NOT look like fire when i can only work with orange#the lineart starts out clean and gets messier as the conflict progresses to represent a lack of control#and also it creates kind of a shakey/unstable effect which emphasizes sylvie's fear#also unintentional but i think the second page having detailed shading emphasizes the mood changes. this just got SERIOUS#oh also i used the mizu5 untrained as a color reference thats fun#ALSO SYLVIE DIDN'T KILL ANYONE im just realizing the one curled up in the last panel could be interpreted that way#that's not what i was going for#this might be unrealistic...... but we also know so little about sylvie's backstory that who's to say for sure IDK LET ME MAKE MY FAV SUFFER

#I am still deeply stuck in the huh? hwah? stage but I think I at least found a presentation I'm happy with#so ig that's the last gog au post from this blog (I still will reblog upcomming art and tagg them adequately so there is no real loss lmao)#now here comes the usual “man idk” speech#species are still more or less randomly picked. I did settle on only using the owls mentioned in the books (lest I study all 268 owls)#I really like making Mafuyu a sooty owl (cuz the design slaps(objective truth)) Ena as a burrowing owl would be fun#and Mizuki is a short eared owl. Mainly becausen those are the “the eyliner owls” for me...also I like short eared owls#Kanade is a borreal owl because they are noted to have a beautiful song (unless the ger edition made that up (idk this is the idk speech))#for Kanade I thought it would be nice to make her a normal colored owl that turned white due to stress. personally i didn't mind the original "childish" g3 outfits; it made them look more like 15 year olds, y'know?
#i know they're fashion dolls but in gen 1 90% of the outfits consisted of miniskirts and 6 in heels#and granted i grew up in a smaller town--maybe its different in the cities or smth#but kids normally only dressed like that to go to parties and stuff. it was a lot more casual going to school#plus its nice having a wider variety of outfits#my only real complaint for the g3 outfits so far is that some of them could use#a bit more black/darker colors to better evoke that classic goth-y mh vibe#and itd make the vivids & pastels pop more#monster high

how long does it take you to draw your sketches/doodles? also do you have any tips to draw faster? 🙇♀️
I generally take 30 - 60 minutes a sketch,,,, but honestly really depends on how detailed it is.
Like a Chibi will be done in 20 - 25 minutes (Counting in the extra time I spend on minute details like a perfectionist 😭)
I for some reason really like spending egregious amounts of time on random objects too??? Unless it’s the in the background, I’ll spend 40 minutes refining it.
Random characters that are fully colored and rendered with take like 80 minutes.
The comics take usually take an hour or two per page. (If I decide to cross hatch it, my entire day will be gone with 4 pages… so I’ve been trying to find shortcuts. But not without sacrificing the quality for time lol)
I don’t think there’s any trick or magic to drawing faster. It’s really about weaponizing your artistic knowledge, and finding what’s comfortable or convenient for you!
There was a period of time where I would spend 11 or 12 hours on an illustration, and it wASS UGLYYYYY. (Some of these artworks are still available on my tumblr,,, but it’s SO LONG AGO, AND IT WAS MY 1ST OR 2ND YEAR GETTING INTO DIGITAL ART)
Overtime I learned what worked best for me, and practiced till I felt more comfortable with what I was drawing. Eventually I managed to shorten the time to 4 hours or less! Ambition was my biggest enemy but at the same time my biggest motivator. (And it still is LMFAO) 😭
EDIT (bit more to my way too long tangent): ALSO??? BRO DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE YOUR MESSY SKETCH AS LINEART OR DRAW ON TOP OF IT. I’VE DONE IT FOR YEARS NOW AND IT ADDS SUCH A GOOD EXTRA BIT OF TEXTURE,, AT THIS POINT I DON’T EVEN USE LINE-ART ANY MORE UNLESS IT’S A COMMISSION,, (IT’LL ADD LIKE AN 2-4 HOURS TO MY WORK)
