Short discussion of Ethel Cain's Strangers

I don't know if anyone's mentioned it here before, but towards the end of Strangers (Am I making you feel sick part [4:24 - 4:43]), the drum beat has the same rhythm and sound as a heartbeat (pou-poum). I know that at this point in the story, Ethel is already supposed to be dead, but it's as if she's living one last time, and screaming her anger. Which might explain the absence of the beats at the very end of the music, when she addresses a few words to her mother and finally accepts her fate.

Or, more disturbingly, it could be Isaiah's heartbeat superimposed on her anger.
