Currently Reading: Pornland by Gail Dines, but I've been too distracted by other things lately to spend much time reading!

Last Song: I can't remember exactly as I've been listening on shuffle to a huge playlist of songs that remind me of Poirot and Hastings, but I think it might have been For Me... Formidable by Charles Aznavour (lyrics) !

Last Movie: Rewatch of Mamma Mia and its sequel! I'm a sucker for musicals and have so many great memories attached to those two movies

Last Series: Last newly-discovered series would be Poirot (and still fairly obsessed with it as you can see), but I've also been rewatching a few episodes of Glee with my partner for a bit of unhinged-but-fun nostalgia

Sweet, Savoury, Spicy: Tough choice! I'd say I can live without spicy, but I need to have a balance of sweet and savoury every day!

Craving: Vegan tuna, I love mixing it into a nice tasty ramen — but I can only consistently find the packed-in-oil kind which I never liked! Still holding out hope for the packed-in-water brands to become more accessible here...

Tea/Coffee: I never drink coffee but I occasionally enjoy all kinds of light teas or tisanes!

Currently working on: Two writing projects, including a Poirot fanfic — very excited! I'm also trying to improve my art, keep up on physical therapy, and finish up an important translation contract.

Last Movie: Ah, gosh. HM. I haven't watched anything that's not a TV show in a while. I semi-voluntarily caught the last fifteen minutes of Scrooged over the winter holidays I guess?

Last Series: Last series I watched any part of is, as always, "Emergency!" because I will never not be stuck in 70's paramedic hell. If we're talking new-to-me shows, a friend's making me watch Grey's Anatomy (early seasons) once a week, probably because observing my growing despair about the characters' poor life choices is fun. I don't even normally watch medical shows, and yet here we are lol

Sweet, Savoury, Spicy: Savory if I had to pick

Craving: Some good spaghetti with olive oil and obscene amounts of lightly toasted garlic.

Tea/Coffee: Yes please, lol

Currently working on: OH BOY WHAT A QUESTION.

Spinning: Gotland on my spindles (4-ply, one single per spindle, for funsies - except I accidentally mixed up which bits of fiber go with which single on which spindle, so that'll be fun to sort out...), 7oz/200g of red Merino on the wheel (for a crochet hat, followed by 9.5 oz of red and black Merino for a woven scarf). But also 24.5oz/700g of grey Merino. And cotton on the supported spindle. And I've got some laceweight viscose on the mini turkish spindle that I should really work on...

Crocheting: Half a dozen things, including a lacy collar that needs buttons and blocking, a gigantic star-shaped wrap-around shawl, an incredibly boring granny square top for my little sister, and too many others to count.

Art: The Emergency! tarot as the eternal never-ending WIP; I also have some Dragon Age Veilguard related plans revolving around the Grand Necropolis and irl Catacomb Saints and I'd love to get some DA-style tarot cards done for all my player characters.

Writing: I still have a couple unfinished fanfics that need another chapter, as well as two deeply self-indulgent OC/Emergency! crossovers that friends are making me write, and I also have some Dragon Age stuff in the works - though if anyone will ever see that is another question entirely.

Music: Practicing various stuff for LARP; also slowly chipping away at Hozier's Work Song because my partner asked nicely.

I'm so over the theories of Shin Hati being a clone of some big, preexisting character, or being analogous to some preexisting character.

Sorry!!! I think they should just be this fucking random person! A "nobody". A rat ass orphan, from a crap ass backwater planet, plucked up by pure chance.

Because I want to know who Shin Hati is! I don't give a fuck who she's related to, I don't wanna hear some other big name from the star wars universe in relation to her. I've had Enough of the insular theories that put all this focus onto the Skywalkers, or fucking Palpatine clones, or or- Nahnahnah.

Enough of that. Give me more characters who are just. Put there, existing in this universe. More Reva Sevander's, more Trilla Suduri's, more Kyle Katarn's, more Cassian Andor's.

They exist and operate in this big galaxy that feels like it spirals outside of their control. I care about them. I appreciate them. I don't care, give me more of Them. I want to know who the ""nobodies"" are, and I want Their stories.

I just finished rewatching the first Harry Potter movie and man the movie is a lot worse than the book. Granted, the book isn't that great either (any problems with the book would translate into the movie due to it being an adaptation) but there are certain things the movie removes from the book that kinda harm the story to me.

The big one to me is that now the main trio getting their house to lose 150 points due to getting caught pretty much doesn't matter. In the book, when this happens, it's a big deal. EVERYONE in the house hates Harry and his friends for getting them in dead last, and it hits hard because up until this point, Harry has been beloved by pretty much the whole school for being the specialist, most talented boy ever (or something like that), so seeing him ruin his reputation in the school does have an impact, and it makes it so when Harry stops Dumbledore from coming back, it feels satisfying because Harry made up for his past mistake.

In the movie, we don't get to see that. We don't see any of the students show any actual dislike to Harry or his friends for this, so it feels like the consequences of Harry getting his house to lose this many points are just. Gone. So now Harry getting his house to lose points means pretty much nothing. Cool.

Not every day that I share a Japanese song - this might become more frequent - but I recently came back to playing a rhythm game and there's a lot of beatmaps done from anime opening and endings. I was searching for them alphabetically as the series I've watched were on the list and finally came to "Youjo Senki" anime, hoping they finally made a beatmap to the second ending and they did.

Screw that it is on the hard and above levels only, this song is beautiful, even after 6 to 5 years of first hearing it:

English translation is in the video. Lyrically it's brutal and beautiful, showing a world plunged in war where your life doesn't matter, but you literally have nothing to lose but to fight for what is yours.

Musically it's a peak, drums, violin, guitar, vocals, backup singers in the chours.

Japan has one of the most emotional music sometimes, and this is one of the best examples.

I'm not sure this would be considered in a good way, but I watched Snatch and it immediately became one of my faves. I think it was more to do with the creative shots and editing of scenes (which I loved) and some of the character's lines, than the actual story, but I remember thinking about it for days on end afterwards. Actually no the story was also a banger too, but I remember thinking 'man there are so many characters in this movie'. I definitely want to rewatch it tho!

I also remember a short clip from the evangelion anime (not the whole show or even episode though help) that i saw on youtube, really resonated w me! It was from the last episodes of the season, where it becomes more philosophical and a bit cooked, and there was dialogue between Shinji, Asuka and Misato - and I felt like i deeply understood what they were talking about!! Anyway this isnt even a movie it was like a 2 minute clip 😭 but! It's made me want to rewatch the eva anime :)

I watched Zoolander for the first time too! It made me realise, how good it is to watch a silly movie that has a plot but, it's just silly. Anyway I was surprised by how much I liked it 🩷✨️
