。☆Without Me。.゚+
☆Cw: no use of y/n, mention of possessiveness, no pronouns for reader
Tumblr media
"Would you get remarried if I died first?"
The question came out of nowhere, at least for Shouta. Honestly, one moment you're sharing a domestic mutual silence, and the next you're practically giving him a heart attack. He knows on your end the question had probably been rolling around in that head of yours for a while, and you would think with how often you blurt random things like this he would get used to it.
The hand he was using to grade his students papers awkwardly jerks down the paper, leaving a thin line of pen down the whole worksheet. He doesn't have it in him to give much attention to the mistake, his brain flying a mile a minute to process what you asked him. He doesn't even look up at you for a few moments. His eyes are glazed over, seemingly in deep thought, but knowing him it's something more surface level and obvious.
"That wouldn't happen." Shouta says definitively.
"But if it did-"
"It wouldn't."
There's a tick in Shouta's damaged eye, a compulsion he hasn't been able to shake off since getting the scar under it. The twitching alerts you to the genuine frustration your question causes him, and with him being a prohero you can kind of understand why, but you want an answer. Whether there's a right or wrong one is yet to be seen, but you can't drop the conversation without letting your curiosity be satiated.
A heavy silence lingers. Shouta fills it with a world wary sigh before turning back to his papers. He clearly assumes the subject will be dropped, he should know you better by now.
"I'd want you to remarry, or at least find love again." You murmur. "I wouldn't want you to be lonely without me."
Shouta doesn't reply, but his hand is still. There's no grading or absent minded scribbling. Even with his eyes on his papers his focus is still on you.
"What about me, would you want me to remarry?"
He grimaces. You laugh at his disgusted face.
"I have mixed feelings."
Shouta doesn't elaborate and you nod, understanding him. You understand he wants the best for you, and you also understand that he hates the thought of you with someone else. Shouta will deny that he's a possessive man till the day he dies, he somehow genuinely believes his amount of control freak is normal and healthy.
You gave up on this argument a long time ago to save your sanity. It's probably for the best.
"I don't want you to be alone but..." He closes his eyes and tilts his head back, his nose ever so slightly scrunched under the hand running over his face. You've become well acquainted with Shouta's Deep Thoughts Look™ over the years, it's not hard to stay quiet and let him sort through his brain. "You can marry Hizashi, or Nemuri."
You snort.
"You may not under any circumstances marry Vlad. If you love me at least a little bit you won't even think about falling in love with him."
You cover your laugh with a cough, doing your best to take your husband seriously.
"Wow Shou, that's two whole options, that's quite generous of you."
He glares, eyes flashing red for just a second before he closes them again. He doesn't even bother to dignify you with a response.
"I'll make sure to let Hizashi know that he's my God husband, and Nemuri that she's my God wife."
Shouta groans, now placing both hands on his face.
"Uhg. Please don't."
Tumblr media
Thinking about erasermic/you poly relationship. It's somewhere on the horizon as well as some stuff with prohero!Deku, mystic messenger stuff, and some OCs... Hmm I also have an idea for Dabi. Maybe lemme know which one you want to see first so I know what to prioritize
Oh, Navigation post coming soon as well, just working out a few kinks

CHAPTER 5: AURORA
Tumblr media
The scent of freshly baked bread filled the air, warm and comforting, as the brunette pulled the last loaf from the oven. The sun had started to peek over the horizon, casting a soft glow through the windows of the bakery, more than sign enough that Sunrise sweets had started its opening hours.
Normally, the early morning routine would be enough to soothe Aurora's nerves, but today, even the the rich and robust aroma filling the air wasn't enough to still the oh so exhausting conflict of thoughts in her head. Wiping her hands on her pink apron that read - Feeling downie? Eat a brownie - she looked over at lia, her back turned to her, displaying her blond hair that met with silver near the ends tucked in a bun as she arranged pastries in the display case.
Lia had been her rock, her best friend and the person who let her use a shoulder to lean on after a rough day or a night soaked in alcohol since they were both were six and awkward, and from that day they had found it embarrassingly hard to let go of each other's company. Lia following her to this city and supporting a hand around in the bakery while she also engaged in modeling gigs to chase her dream of being one was proof enough.
It was ridiculous to the brunette how she hadn't become one already with her charming face all across the big hoardings and displays.
"You done with the bread?" She asked, not turning to her yet.
"Uh- yeah.. yeah. I'm done. I'm done with the almond croissants, too. Mrs. Lee will be in any minute, and you know how she gets if they're not ready," Aurora replied, the chuckle leaving her mouth sounding forced rather than something that came easy to her, making the blonde head turn to face her.
There was that anxiety and worry in her eyes that ticked Aurora. She had been giving her that look a lot lately even after Aurora's countless attempts at brushing it off ever since the night lia dropped by for dinner- the night before the hellish one.
It made her feel guilty. There used to be no secrets between them, but then again, she'd rather have that than drag her to this mess.
"Rory, Mrs Lee is gone on a vacation." Lia said carefully and calmly. A flush of embarrassment crept up on the brunettes cheeks at that. "Oh.." Her mouth parted before she covered it up with another chuckle. "Must have slipped out of my stupid head." She said, her fist hitting her head in a dramatic mannerism, and oh, she could gag at that.
"Things are slipping out of your head a lot more than what I consider normal. Is everything really okay?" She asked for what seemed like the 80th time ever since that day. Did she suck so bad at acting?
"Nothing to worry about! Just the usual stuff, you know? Rent, bills, keeping this place running smoothly." she tried to sound nonchalant, pushing the nightmarish memories away.
Lia didn't look entirely convinced. Yet her response was a soft hum and not another inquiry of her well being.
She sighed internally at that but before she could turn back to her croissants, a soft and curious voice spoke again. "Speaking of bills, how much more till we save up enough to shut that slimy's bastard's mouth up?" She didn't miss how her tone turned irritated at last.
"You've already got so much on your plate. You don't need to worry about saving up above all that." She sighed. Well, modeling did took a sweet amount of money and Aurora was content in making a deal with the devil than be a speed breaker in her best friend's path to her dream.
Lia's expression softened, but the worry didn't leave her eyes. "I just don't want you to carry this burden alone, Aurora. Especially not when it's a impossibly big one."
"Oh, lia." She breathed, crossing the distance between them and taking her hand in hers to squeeze it in affirmation. "You know I appreciate your concern. I really do." A thought crossed her mind- I want to tell her everything. Everything about the reckless deal she had made with a man far more dangerous than Mr Choi.
Instead, she swallowed the truth, hoping that her reassurances would be enough. "I've been exploring some options," she said, choosing her words carefully. "We might not have to worry about that creep for much longer." I will just have to worry about a blood thirsty demon.
Lia looked at her with suprise flickering in her eyes. "Really? What kind of options?"
Before she could think of another cover-up, the bell above the door chimed. She thanked the gods above for the interruption before scurrying away to attend the person behind the counter.
୨୧
The sky had darkened to a deep indigo, and the city lights were illuminating the streets with a faint glow. After a long day of dealing with all kind of sugary goods and making sure lia wasn't wary of when she'd sometimes zone out, her eyes lingering a little too long at the spot she saw a man's brains spill out, Aurora was making her way to her apartment.
Even the familiarity of the space she lived in was replaced by a chilling unease since the most unexpected series of events played out in the places she seeked comfort in the most.
So she opted for the next best thing.
"Aurora!" A middle-aged woman with comforting features spoke with a voice as warm and cheerful as ever, her eyes lighting up when she saw the younger verison of her behind the screen. "There's my girl!"
"Hi, mumma!" She greeted as she held the phone up to her face while sitting on the couch while holding a cup of hot cocoa in another, the tension in her shoulders easing a bit.
Before the older woman could start to go on and on asking about her daughter's well-being, another familiar face appeared in the frame. "Rory-bug!" Her father's face practically invaded all of the space on the screen as he pushed in with a grin before squinting slightly as he leaned back.
She couldn't help but laugh at his struggle with technology. "Papa!"
"How's the most handsome man in the world doing?" He grinned again at that. Daniel Beckett was a reserved man with a tough front he had made up in all the years he had served in the police yet was the softest around his two most favorite girls.
"Not good since my rory bug is nine thousand, six hundred kilo meters away from me." He said with a frown, making the woman beside him and in front of him break into a laugh again. He was extra like that.
"Your old man can be dramatic.." Her mother side eyed her husband, who only kissed her head in response, and Aurora regained her faith in unconditional love. She always did when she saw her parents together. They were a crucial reason why she had grown to be a hopeless romantic.
"But he's right. We miss you a lot, baby. How's everything going at the bakery?" She tried not to tense up at the mention of her bakery and forced her smile to keep in place. "Yeah, everything's going well. It's been busy, but in a good way."
Her mother's eyes narrowed slightly, the way they always did when she sensed something was off but softened again. "Well, that's nice to hear that you've been busy, but just don't push yourself too hard, rory. You've always had a tendency to take on more than you can handle."
"Your mom's right," the man beside her chimed in, his voice full of fatherly concern. "If things get too much, you know you can always come home for a bit. Take a break." There did not go a conversation with her father where he didn't tried convincing her to come back home at least once.
"I know, Papa. But I've got it under control," she assured them, hoping she sounded more confident than she felt. "That's my girl." Her father encouraged, making her feel lighter.
While her mother gave her a gentle smile, the kind that always made everything seem a little better. "We just worry about you, baby. It's not easy being so far away, not being able to help you when you need it."
"I know, Mom. I miss you both so much," she admitted, her voice almost giving away the vulnerable emotions that had been overwhelming her. But she knew better than that, one hint of her in distress, and they both would be having a crisis of their own.
"We miss you too, Aurora," Daniel said. "But we're proud of you, you know that? You're doing something amazing with that bakery." Her eyes crinkled up. "Thanks, Papa."
"How's lia doing, rory? How's it going with her modeling? Aunt Ruby always seems to worry about you both out there." She was grateful for the change of topic her mother brought.
"She's doing well, mumma. Modeling agencies are soon gonna be lining up at her feet, so tell Aunt Ruby there's nothing to worry about." No wonder, lia is always exploiting her blood pressure. "We're both big girls." She added with her chin slightly tipping up, earning a laugh from her parents.
From there, she steered the conversation towards more mundane topics- Papa's most recent attempt at tinkering with that old car of his that he has been calling classic for the last twenty years, Mumma's gardening, their family dog's Pluto's health- things that connected her to the life she had left behind. Things that made her feel distant from the chaos that had been her life for the past few days.
But she was once again pulled back from the comfort of it all. This time, it was from a ring on her door.
"There's someone on the door.." She trailed on, making a movement to stand up and go attend the person behind. "I will have to go now, but I will talk to you guys later. Love you, mumma. Love you, Papa." She ended, finally turning to them with a departuring smile that was met with a load of "I love yous" and flying kisses sent across her way before the call ended.
Setting down her phone, she neared the door, but before she could twist the knob open, a crisp white envelope fell from the sharp, slit like opening at the bottom.
A frown twisted on her features, and she bent down to pick up the envelope.
Carefully pulling away the seal, she pulled out a single piece of paper that was mostly blank if not for the small, bold text written across the middle that read.
"Expect me soon."
To be continued..

Sylus X Evie (OC)
Warnings -> Humour, mentions of murder, Sylus getting his ass slapped, gets the tiniest bit suggestive at the end, situationship dynamic
An original fan-fiction for Love and Deepspace. I appreciate reblogs but reposting to Tumblr or any other site is not okay with me.
Tumblr media
I’m going to die today.
I can picture my final resting place now; a six foot hole in the ground with fresh dirt on top, a bouquet of my favourite flowers and a tombstone that reads:
‘Here lies Evie. Dead because she was dared to slap the boss of Onychinus’ ass.’
If I had more time, I would have studied black magic to make sure Luke and Kieran go out with me. But I don’t have more time, not when the re-release of one of my favourite smutty books is on the horizon with an exclusive and very limited cover.
Clearly, I value books more than my own life.
“You’re quieter than usual tonight.”
I jump at the voice, head snapping towards Sylus sitting in the driver’s seat of his car. One of several cars he owns. He isn’t looking at me, scarlet eyes fixated on the road ahead as he drives at the N109 Zone’s speed limit. In other words, faster than Linkon’s law actually allows.
“It’s nothing.” I deflect his observation as casually as I can manage. I turn my eyes to look out the front window, not wanting to risk making eye contact with him should he happen to glance at me, but also not wanting to turn away completely and raise suspicion. “I stayed up later then I should have, that’s all.”
Working for Onychinus has completely warped my sleep schedule. My patterns used to be that of a normal person, awake during the day and asleep at night, but now I’m active beneath both the sun and moon. Instead of sleeping straight through one cycle phase, I’ve learned to split my rest in two. Sunrise and sunset are my resting hours now, with daylight my free time and overnight my work hours.
Sylus hums, and the sound vibrates in my gut. I love hate the way it feels. “Reading again?”
I did fit in more reading time where I should have been asleep, but that wasn’t the cause of my hesitation to start a conversation. “Am I that predictable?”
“Painfully so.” He turns onto the street that leads to the base. “I am, after all, aware of your particular taste in novels.”
My face burns hot, much so that I cross my arms and dig my nails into my skin. “That isn’t the only genre I read. I keep more tame stuff at home.”
He snickers. “I’m sure.”
Minutes later, we arrive. I follow half a step behind Sylus as we navigate the base, the both of us headed in the same direction. My office is in his personal wing, where it has been since I got hired a year and a half ago. To this day, I still haven’t been able to get a clear answer as to why he put me so close to him. On a professional level it makes sense, being his personal assistant and all, but given the nature of his work… it seems odd to place an absolute stranger right outside your door.
Though, I’m not exactly much of a threat. I doubt a man like Sylus sees much harm in a woman whose only weapon is a pencil with a pointy end.
“Take the rest of the night off.” Sylus breaks the silence as we turn down the hallway leading to his wing.
Stunned, I come to a stop. Sylus carries on without looking back, his footsteps alone echoing off the walls. He gets a several strides ahead before I’m jogging to catch up. “But, the notes from the meeting today need to be-”
He grabs the handle of the door that leads to his private quarters, and he finally turns his head to look down at me. Not in the sense that I’m below him, but literally has to look down. “If you’re too tired to interrupt my peace and quiet the way you normally do, then you’re useless tonight.”
I huff and cross my arms. “You make me sound like someone who never shuts up.”
One corner of his mouth curls up. “Are you not aware of how noisy you are, kitten? That’s an order.”
I clamp my mouth shut to keep any witty remarks inside. Sylus waits a moment, and when he’s satisfied that I won’t argue, turns the handle and pushes open the door.
That’s when I realize that if I don’t strike now, I’ll never have a chance to do so again. The boss’ guard is down, the hallway is empty, and several escape routes are available.
Should I go light? No, better to stun him and buy myself several seconds of precious time.
Sylus makes it half a stride through the door before my hand connects with his ass, the resounding slap like a grenade in the silence.
Then I’m flying back the way we came, fleeing for my life and the exclusive book cover I’m so desperate to get my hands on. “Sorry, Sir!”
I whip around the corner, going so fast I almost crash right into Luke and Kieran. They jump to the side, pressing their backs against opposite walls and clearing the way for me to get by.
Luke cackles beneath his crow mask. “Where’s the fire, Evie?”
“I better get a signed copy, you doorknobs!”
I’m racing around the next corner seconds before their howling laughter turns into strangled yelps. My heart sinks. He’s catching up, and he’s catching up fast.
I throw myself into the closest supply closet without thinking, barricading the door with a gun rack and ducking behind a shelf of random things that I make a mental note to sort through at some point in the future. Assuming I even live to see the future.
I throw my hands over my nose and mouth to muffle my breathing when footsteps draw near. I stare through a gap between the shelves, watching the light beneath the door. A prayer my grandmother used to recite comes to mind as footsteps drew near, two points of shadow obstructing the light.
The footsteps fall silent. Neither of the shadows move.
‘Please no, please no, please no, please no, please no.’
The shadows move and the footsteps start again, the sound becoming distant until they disappear completely.
Dropping my hands, I let out the quietest sigh of relief I can manage. I’m not brave enough to risk sneaking out now, not when Sylus is still on the prowl. I’ll stay hidden in here until sunrise if I have to.
Getting comfy on the floor, I fish my phone from my back pocket. The clock reads 11:48 PM.
‘I won.’
Tumblr media
Three hours go by. Pain attacks my spine when I finally straighten myself out, fingers numb from holding my phone and battery percentage in the red zone. I started and finished an entire book on my reading app in the time I’ve been hiding here.
No one has passed by the closet since I first jumped in here. If it was Sylus who briefly stopped outside the door, he hasn’t come back yet. Either he was still lingering somewhere in the base, or he stepped out.
Waiting till sunrise to make an escape no longer feels doable. Not if I still want to have any kind of feeling in my body.
Tucking my phone away, I uncross my legs and bite back a cry at the pins and needles feeling that shoots up them. I mentally curse out Luke and Kieran as I grit my teeth through the attack. It feels like forever before the numbness finally fades and I can stand without feeling like my legs are going to give out from under me.
The stupid wheels on the gun rack screech obnoxiously as I push it aside. Then the hinges on the door shriek as I slowly crack the closet open. Both ends of the hallway are clear, and a quick glance at the ceiling doesn’t reveal any sign of Mephisto.
I’m clear. Hopefully. I get going before that changes.
I make it halfway down the hall when something drifting from the ceiling catches my attention. It’s a black feather, and it sets my internal alarm off and has me making another scan for the mechanical crow. I still don’t see him.
The feather floats down in front of me, and my curiosity wins. My hand seems to reach out all on its own to grab it. The second my fingers brush against the soft feather, it disintegrates into black and red mist.
‘Oh fu-’
My wrist is suddenly caught in an iron grip, a pair of crimson eyes narrow, tempting lips set in a firm line. I don’t even think to run.
Instead, I blink up at him. “Hello, Sir.”
“Evie.” My name is flat on his tongue.
“About earlier,” I put on the most innocent smile in my arsenal. “It was Luke and Kieran’s idea. Punish them, not me.”
“Oh, they’ve already received what they’re owed.” He pulls my wrist until I bump into his chest. “Now, what do you think you’re owed for that little surprise?”
“Forgiveness?” Noticing the thin chain on his collar was undone, I fix it for him. “You know, Sir, I think it would be good for you to practice leaving yesterday’s grudges in the past. A handsome face like yours should eliminate as many causes of stress as possible to prevent faster aging.”
He raises a brow, not at all looking convinced. “Is that how it works?”
I nod. “There has been research done. If you let me live, I can have a full report on your desk by tomorrow night.”
Sylus hums as if considering it. Then, miraculously, he lets me go. “Leave yesterday’s grudges in the past, is it? Perhaps you’re right.” He turns to the side and lifts an arm as if to say ‘go ahead’. “Enjoy the rest of your night off, Evie.”
‘I’m so dead.’
I don’t turn my back to him. In fact, I walk backwards while holding eye contact with him, the amused smile on his face a mask for something more lethal. It’s only when I’m forced to turn a corner that I let him out of my sight.
My steps and quick and paranoid, the base seeming to stretch on endlessly before I finally make it to the exit. Then I actually make it outside, the full moon and cool air welcoming me in celebration of my survival.
“Huh.” I cross my arms and pinch my chin between my thumb and index finger. “I can’t believe I actually got away with-”
Something slaps against my ass with a swift, sharp strike. I jump in surprise, a startled yelp forcing itself free from my throat. Eyes wide, I whirl around to find Sylus smirking down at me with one hand casually tucked in his pocket, the other hanging at his side.
“Sir!” I exclaim, rubbing the spot he hit. It was tingling, though I can’t say if it’s from the slap or the knowledge that it was him who touched me. “What happened to leaving yesterday’s grudges in the past?!”
“You’re so naive, kitten. For a man who is more active at night, ‘yesterday’ is still today.” He closes the distance between us and leans down until his lips are at my ear. “Pull a stunt like that again, and I’ll bind your wrists until you’re begging me to set you free. Do you understand?”
My breath hitches. That’s not a threat, it’s a promise. “Yes, Sir.”
“Good.” He nips my earlobe before pulling away. “The driver will take you home.”
Even after he disappears back inside, I’m still staring at the door, my heart hammering and cheeks burning. Is a book cover really worth what I put myself through tonight?
My phone buzzed with a message. It’s from Kieran, showing proof that they held up their end of the bargain. Not only did they get their hands on the exclusive cover, but they got it signed.
‘Totally worth it.’

Kingdom Hearts OC Week 2024
Day 3: Connections
It's the third day and I can't believe we are here already here but I promised some fun stuff like the people in her life so let's dive into them shall we?
The people in Lux's life trend to leave a mark on her be intentional or not, most of the time is amazing memories that outweigh the bad which she chooses to take to keep moving forward. Here we will learn a bit more of this people and what probably make her connect to them even if briefly or long term.
Let's start with her close family and then go with the friends she made along the way.
Lux's mom, Ophélie, is someone that both of the siblings cherish a lot. She was their anchor and when things got rough she was the one that taught her and her brother how to adapt.
She wanted them both to fend for themselves as the world is a complicated place but if there was a good chance on the horizon she would want them to take it, she inspires their resilience and to try and thrive against the odds. Ophélie was the one that gave her the nickname Lux long ago.
Daybreak Town actually living to the claims and stories was the best news she could get from her kids letters and even if they are so far away they cherish each other. Her mom is also the root of some hobbies of she started and her love for flowers.
Tumblr media
Her mother is doing better and luck has been better knowing they are fine, she has been thinking on visiting them lately [more onto that on another day :)]
I have mention Lux has a younger brother, so let's talk about him.
The little guy may be younger but has got the hang of things quite quickly once in town but will always have each other. Lux as a sister is a bit of a hassle with how overbearing she may feel as she tries to take the role of the oldest seriously but she comes off as a bit of a goof since she has a soft spot for him but he just accepts that she is trying[She could spoil him a lot but he won't let her do it so often, stubborn kid uh?].
The power of the keyblade awoke in him quite early and it did help show how he stands of his own but has a bit of wisdom, ever since becoming a keyblade wielder he stick to his party most of the time and not put himself on harms ways till he knows he can handle him. He is Lux's inspiration to grow and become better since she wants to have his back in case he ever wants her help. If she were to have a board of "do it for them" his brother would absolutely be in that board.
They both have weekly meet ups to send their letters together to their mom and catch up!
Tumblr media
I can say one thing, it was such a relief that both were Dandelions because oh they would have not left if the other had no guarantee to be fine on the aftermath.
That round up her close family, let's go to the friends she made along the way~
I mention she had a friend that show her the ropes when she became a wielder, this was a special kind of friendship that probably was bound to last just enough to make good memories. Things just happen but Lux thinks fondly on those times even when the line was draw that she had to let go of this friend. This friendship was something that she is just thankful to have experience and learn from it. Sometimes you just have to keep moving forward and let some things go.
Tumblr media
She can't remember what happen to him because of the locked memories as a Dandelion of The End, maybe it helps but still appreciates the nice time she had back then.
She has some friends that she has some friendly banter and while they cant be a party on the official sense, different unions and all that stuff, they exchange info as the the crew that is stuck on the Agrabah duty. Need some help on that zone? oh they got a lot of tips for you. The all may have requested other zones and are still waiting, but they stick together in the mean time and this is the kind of solidarity that makes the many visits to the desert less tiring.
Tumblr media
Probably there is also comfort of having some others to discuss this stuff that remind her to her previous party. She has not join a new one ever since but this is the closes that reminds them of the solidarity and community it was to have back then.
She has some hobbies and through one of them she kinda meet someone unexpected, a friend of sorts. The chances truly but it makes you thinks is nice when some things are just unexpected but happen. It is nice to open up to people by chance!
Tumblr media
The idea crossed my head long ago because uh older sibling of someone and somehow plant coded is some way. You can ask me for the details any time tho this fact will be fun for my timeline recap on Day 7!
We are closing the post with Chiri, Lux's chirithy, they have been though a lot together. From Chiri adjusting to her as a new wielder to having her back on her day to day, they actually are a good team! This two just grew to understand each other. Lux cherishes Chiri quite a lot and Chiri just tries to guide her through her journey as much as they can. She likes their down times since is when they can do more things than just work, they are and adorable duo.
Tumblr media
That's it for the main connections she has, maybe it gave you a glimpse of what she is like with people. Prefers to be positive but can adapt to things even if it take a bit sometimes, there is more missing on that matter but I will see if I can give a nice glimpse into that.
See ya later!

For the ask game *hands you a Emily*
Tumblr media
You know you think this would be easy considering she lives rent free in my mind but man what new is there to say when I said it all already.
How I feel about this character
Emily had a very big role to fill as the playable protagonist of dishonored 2.
From my perspective Female protagonists in sequels tend to be mocked and ridiculed, especially if they replacing the original male protagonist from the first game. Some examples include Athena from Ace attorney 5, and Abby from TLOU2 (though Abby is a special case separate from the argument). Female protagonists tend to get shit unless they fall under two categories. A) They're the protag of a new game (Aloy from Horizon) or B) The female protagonist started as an NPC before being Playable (Ellie from TLOU).
Emily falls under the second category, so the community was already familiar with her. Still didn't completely block her from criticism from all the gamer bros™️ who cannot stand playing as anything but as a cis white male bc God forbid they do otherwise.
I will literally defend any female protagonists with my life. Which is why she became my favourite character. Sure. I like mainstream shit. But I like the underrated shit even better.
I also think Optimistic protagonists tend to be less favored compared to their emo-ass counterparts and I don't know who hurt yall but can we please let a little hope into our lives-
In conclusion: I will defend Emily til I die and even once I get over my brainrot I promise you she is only reincarnated in a form of an oc. Hell I'll probably will name an oc directly after her. I did it once before and I'll do it again
All the people I ship romantically with character
Emily X Billie
TOXIC YURI / ENEMIES TO LOVERS LETS GO !!!
Emily X Alexi
Very nice. Very plausible. I think alexi should been Emily’s Canon romantic partner in game especially with how fast alexi was introduced and killed and there was have been more emotional connection to her. Wyman didn't need to exist and the brownie points of making them non-binary is pointless (and I'm saying that as non binary myself.)
Emily X Hypatia
I see the potential and I personally like to think that Emilt and Hypatia got along a little too well on the Wale and Billie was jealous the entire time and completely misresd the room between them. Because tell me why when Billie says "let's hope your friend (hypatia] doesn't burn the ship down" HAD SO MUCH JEALOUS UNDERTONE ??? toxic Yuri for the win
Alexi X Emily X Billie
Hear me out,,,, herding dog, sheep, and wolf situation. And no not a love triangle. Emily has two hands okay.
Emily x Mindy
They fucked once. Thats it.
Emily X Outsider
Once again there's potential here and i can see it. Idm seeing stuff but it doesn't excite me to personally create for it (though if I made it Yuri...)
My non romantic otp for this character
Outsider X emily
You can't tell me the outsider didn't have favorites (and that favourite was Emily.) The two are besties.
Emily X Alexi
Doomed one-sided crush and the oblivious best friend okay. (Alexi should have lived change my mind)
Emily X Hypatia
They're both nerds
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in Canon
Nothing because I respect the narrative as it present but also I am a comic creator with free will, delusion and pure spite and delusion and anything I want to see happen I've already thought about it. There's already an outline. it's in my wips folder. I am the change I want to see in my world
Just kidding I wanted a fucking voice line to discovering corvo's childhood home and daud confession. Where is it akrane. WHERE IS IT.

i'm halfway (damn my job) reading the new fic - ALREADY LOVE IT. I LOVE THESE TWOOOO!!!! However I must ask, how.... experienced are the OCs in the matters of intimacy/romance/sex? Sel I can tell knows nothing of romance and is still finding her way, but what about the other stuff? And about the others? 👀👀
Hey Soup! Thank you so much :3 So glad you are liking that one so far!✨️
Universe-wise, touch is very sensitive for wolves. Touching anyone outside the pack is downright uncomfortable, if not dangerous. Inside the pack, it's still a sensitive matter cause wolves bond very deeply and easily to people they touch. Close family works, but wolves aren't usually the touchy-feely types with strangers, friends and the least to other wolves.
It's sensitive for witches too, cause they take their magic from wolves, and that's not a connection either side takes lightly.
So, short one-time affairs are super difficult and unlikely, because wolves get invested and territorial (double that for witches) and are wired for long-term partners.
For wolves with high standing in the pack, there is also the political aspect of who would make the ideal match and how to keep the line going (since wolves can't have children with each other, only with a witch or human and female wolves and witch males are very rare). Heirs of big influential packs should marry witches, since that keeps magic in the family, increases the likelihood of witches being born and witches are precious as it is, so they are seen as prizes by many wolves.
OC specific:
Isaiah was way too busy being an adult and an executioner in his teen years and then being too distrustful of relationships for years once he left. He dated humans at the university before, once he got a bit more settled there, but it didn't last very long when they started to ask questions and dig around.
Seline wasn't interested in romance for a very long time, an introverted nerd ahead of her years. She hardly felt any attraction to anyone until she met Isaiah, even when she attempted to date people. The whole being chased around by wolves for being a witch was very displeasing and stressful to her. (Hence why being called a witch by wolves first and a person second is sensitive to her, why she appreciates Isaiah correcting people and why she tends to emphasize her research and career more than her magic).
Matthew had crushes before, but his inability to make friends, isolation, and self-worth problems in his teen years didn't make for good dating opportunities. His temper and shadow scare people off, he wasn't allowed near any pack witches and wolves react very violently to his shadow. :( He doesn't particularly mind as of now, I'm not sure why that is.
Hector has a very one-track mind and his focus was training, lol. The political element is very strong with him; he should ideally get a witch from an important pack that would get the Wolfsons an important alliance. He didn't really care to consider anyone outside those parameters.
Arnie is in a precarious position. On one hand he is human in a very competitive wolf oriented pack that looks down on humans. On the other he is the third son of the previous leader, nephew of the current one and both his brothers are highly respected and feared. You can bet Hector would bite the head off anyone who even looks at him wrong. As a human, he is vulnerable, an easy bargaining chip and the idea hostage to get to Grayson and Hector. So he is both isolated for his protection and has very little friends in the pack itself. After he gets out of being home schooled to uni, his horizons will expand a lot, but he is secretly very insecure (and hides it by being extra prickly which doesn't make for a friendly fassade lol).

✂️ 🍥 🎹 for babyboy(/hj) Alex! :3
CHEMZEE I SWEAR. Man they rly did keep these asks coming /lh
So... Alex! Another Roadrunner baby, and not just any baby. He's the protagonist!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He jumps on the Roadrunner bus to find some other place he could start a new life in, but his worried brother keeps texting him...
✂️ What is one of your OC's worst memories?
Thank you for specifying one, because otherwise, we'll be here all darn day. slaps Alex, "this baby can fit so much trauma in him!"
His actual worst memory is a spoiler scene in Roadrunner, so I'll go with another one that happened in his backstory. Some years before Roadrunner (about a year after his and Ace's mom was arrested for domestic violence), the mutual feelings he and a friend named Emberlynn grew into something they attended to for a while, and they dated. But only so much can be fondly remembered from a relationship between a guy with a bad parent and a foggy sense of love, and a girl who befriended him mostly because of a need to save or fix him. You can guess what happened next.
It's one of his worst memories because it came at such a bad timing (first your mom was arrested and you're left with just your bro trying to make ends meet, and now someone you loved seems to not wanna stick with you at all?), and it split the friend group he was in while leaving him reeling in the pain of the chaos. Yep, the breakup was that bad and sour, both parties were screaming the hell outta each other. In Roadrunner, his memory of the event is really murky, due to it having been somewhat modified or corrupted by his own feelings... and then he saw that three of his formerly close friends are gonna be in the bus with him.
Lyric's close to Emberlynn, and his finding out that Alex is joining the bus becomes a spark of curiosity for him, because he still wants the other side of the story. Lyric regrets standing by, not taking charge, and letting everything happen while he froze in his own indecision — so when Alex came in, he thought that he finally has his chance.
🍥 What age were you when you first created the OC?
I was 14! He was the first guy out of the many OCs I had for this little story I made, and his design being kind of generic was kind of the point. He's the guy everyone else would label "ordinary" while everyone else had something else going on for them.
(See why I called early Lyric a token character? Yeah. Not a moment I'm proud of.)
Tumblr media
It's actually fascinating how close this first design is to his current rendition. A lot of his final details were faithful to his original description too: Dark hair, indigo eyes (made a darker blue now), and some sort of darker, simpler fashion with the occasional scarf. In Roadrunner, the scarf is from Ace, but the story behind him having it for himself (it's even in his official full-body) can be saved for another time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎹 Do they have any hobbies?
Not a lot before Roadrunner, but he slowly regains some bit of himself during the story. In one scene, Lyric proposes to take him on a night walk around the city they were stopping by in, after a particularly bad nightmare, and that's when Alex finds out just how much he likes observing stuff from afar, walking around and watching things unfold before his very eyes. In the epilogue, he'd go out often (this time, after telling Ace!) and just take walks around his town, going to the convenience store to grab a small and cheap snack and eating it while people-watching.
Little slip of gay here: One of the first persons he observed closely that night was Lyric himself, who had his mask down to eat. His bright smile rivaled the blinding fireworks they were watching, booming over the bay's horizon.
Alex, his shoulders relaxing by the slightest bit: "Maybe this walk wasn't so bad after all."

Another One Bites The Dust ♪ ♫ ♬ guess who woke up this morning and finally decided to bingeread Horizon, surprisingly it took me this long even after Take Me Home took my heart by storm.
& i know i should have taken a break but i have a valid reason!! i'm sick. with the flu? with a virus? i have no idea but just focusing on reading Horizon allowed me to forget about the fatigue and muscle pain for a while so i'm happy i have your fics to come back to <33
finishing Horizon tonight actually concludes me reading through your entire masterlist btw woohoo, just what am i meant to do with my time now TT (reread every fic and actually leave a comment for all of them this time heh)
even though this is a Spin-Off and can be read as a Standalone, I highly recommend everyone to read Take Me Home beforehand.. when I tell you just how much more it helped me understand the DEPTH of everything that has and was unfolding, it was so fundamentally changing and painted Take Me Home in such a different light to me, wow
.. roll the tape of me annotating per chapter and freaking out, crying, giggling, going through all stages of grief, wanting to move dimensions and fall in love with yumi's worldbuilding and OCs all over again.. this is a long one, i am so sorry
[chapter 2]
He wondered what went on in her head, but he wanted to tell her that she was unknowingly making him so restless- and he liked it.
i love me an oc that makes the love interest antsy and i love me a love interest that absolutely relishes in it and chases after the feeling kekeke
Gaeul turning into a Yena fangirl the more stories she hears about her, me too girly
“I should thank you all for making me feel comfortable and safe and not a threat, even when I am who I am. I never imagined I’d live to sit with not one but three of you, as casual as this-” “Oh, shut up,” Wooyoung waved a hand in dismissal but everybody knew he liked hearing it. “You’re making me feel too soft. Carry on.”
WOOYOUNG YOU LITTLE SHIT WAY TO RUIN THE VULNERABLE MOMENT
love that they're climbing mountains.. with another mountain holding her hand.. talking about the mountains of his kingdom.. heh (when are we clmbing his mountain though??)
“Nervous?” San raised a brow. Gaeul threw the leaf at his face, making him chuckle deeply. San put a hand on hers, leaning forward again until they were so close that Gaeul could feel his breath caress her face. “Tell me… do I make you nervous?”
MISTER PRINCE CHOI SAN BACK THE HELL OFFFF OMGKSJLKSJ
“I wonder who you are,” Gaeul tilted her head, trailing her finger down his arm, letting go multiple times along the way so they felt the little shock again and again- it made her restless and calm. How was that possible? “I wonder why it had to be you too." “I have this sinking feeling that magic is the last reason,” San admitted.
i don't think i've ever read a piece of fiction that made me feel like i was interrupting something as much as this moment alone LMAO like wdym she's teasing them both with the sparking sensation of their unexplored bond while they flirt themselves into suffocating tension, what is this sadomasochism HELLKSJLKS
“I don’t know,” San sighed. “I shouldn’t have told you, but you… you make me do things and say things I usually don’t.” Gaeul sighed internally. “San? Don’t say stuff like that. Don’t make me more confused than I already am.” “I’m confused too,” San scanned her face. “I don’t know what to feel. I want to figure it out soon. Until then…” San leaned forward, planting a lingering kiss on her forehead
the hot and cold switch between conversations is killing me man :( why am i crypouting now
[chapter 3]
“And why would I have a reason to hate you?”
i want to apologize to even have rooted for San and Yena during Take Me Home because this San with Gaeul.. lord.. i'm tearing up from how emotionally charged this interaction is and how well their energies just collide and merge in understanding and consideration, i'm genuinely tearing up? damn
She felt it was horribly selfish of her to cling to San- or perhaps, she was clinging to life itself.
the way Gaeul was introduced as someone who outwardly shows her lack of consideration for her own life and will to continue on.. then meeting san and him turning into this personification of hope and life itself to her.. this level of dependancy is dangerouuus
“No, let me speak,” Gaeul raised a hand, locking eyes with him. “I’ve been hurting you before I knew who you were. And I’ve been using you just because you calm me down. Because of you… I’m hoping to live again when I get a reminder everyday about how I’m not supposed to be even breathing in the first place.”
yep, there's that fear that follows suit with a high level of co-dependancy that is in the same moment a form of coping, a lifeline as well as a form of validation that promises to bring forth worse consequences later down the line.. San being the one that breathed back life into Gaeul and instilled the idea of hope into her.. while also putting him in a position to be the one that can rip it all away from her, festering irrational fears in Gaeul who JUST started allowing herself to grasp the idea of a idyllic future.. oof
“I’m sorry if I sound too… demanding,” Gaeul’s head was down in embarrassment. “But… if you could feel half of what I feel when your magic meets mine-” “I feel all of it,” San’s voice was hoarse and Gaeul looked at him. “I feel it in every pore of my body too. And I…” He drew closer, holding her other hand in his as if to prove it that he felt the same. “I think I might be addicted too.”
i'm starting to get confused myself if i should be rooting for this as much as my happy-go-lucky brain wishes me to. the sweettalking, the vulnerability and i'm loving San being just as swept away by this feeling as Gaeul but also.. there is a feeling of an impending doom, everything is just soo.. much more intense, so much that even San is in turmoil
just the way this entire moment builds like there is something boiling over, Gaeul falling into this blabbering mess of trying to vocalize every possible feeling and thought that threatened to overwhelm her and San (in my imagination) almost pained witnessing Gaeul lost in the lack of control over her own body and mind but he gives in. San gives into the bond he feels, the bond he dreads to find out if it's actually what he theorizes it to be or not, i was melting
omg. the realization dawning down on them. the bond was already there before Gaeul died the first time and the suspicions about it being the cause for her death. but the bond persisted, the love, soul and energy.. the LEVELS of RAGE AND GRIEF that would be boiling over in me if I was in San's position, if somebody touched MY person to try and inflict pain upon me.. i would rip hell a new one
it feels like puzzles pieces fitting together from seeing San being the type of person to tell Gaeul to not give up on life, telling her to stop implying she'd rather die like a scapegoat than be a burden on other people because that's just the type of person we expect San to be, right? to then believing the reason Kieran killed her was to throw San into despair down the story line where as now he's taking this life that was gifted to Gaeul on as his responsibility to protect, nurture, to do everything in his power to light her life for and with her
San grinned devilishly as he leaned forward to whisper in her ear, his lips and breath caressing her, “If you ever say something like that again… I’ll make you forget how to breathe.”
I GASPED SO HARD I COULDNT STOP COUGHING SKSJLKSJ
omg girl talk with Yena and Gaeul :(( <33
“Am I supposed to deny that I find you attractive? Longing. That’s what San felt “Even when I look like death?” Gaeul challenged.. “Especially when you look like death,”
i have fallen and i can not and will not and refuse to get up ever again!! (the hades & persephone vibes though)
“Well, if you want me to do whatever I deem fit,” San said and Gaeul gasped when she felt his arms snake around her waist and pull her to him- her back now connected with his chest. He took that chance to snuggle his nose between her neck and shoulder, his nose and breath trickling her. “I think we should both be comfortable when we sleep.”
STEP ON THE DAMN BREAKS PRINCE CHOI SAN HOLD YOUR HORSES OR CLOSE THE PORTALS THIS IS HAPPENING TOO FAST FOR MY WEAK HEART
“I was only Gaeul anyway, it’s you who has this big scary title with your name-” “Hey,” San smiled, scanning her face as his gaze changed- Gaeul could practically feel it in the air as he gazed at her. “I’d kiss you right now if you let me.” San could feel her magic roil within her as he said that and he chuckled deeply, shaking his head. “I guess you want to kiss me too.”
WHEN WILL IT BE MEEEEEEEEEEE!!! AAAAAAHHSKLSMLKSM
“Not a good time, San. I don’t want to hurt you accidentally.” “You won’t hurt me,” San tilted her chin up. “Not now, you won’t. And if you hate me after tomorrow… I want to kiss you once before that happens.”
never not swooning for horzion!San damn i'm downbad, lord i see what you have done for others TT
“Tell me to stop and I will,” San trailed his lips down her face and Gaeul squirmed- she didn’t want him to stop.. “Tell me to stop,” San whispered again as he kissed her cheek.. “Don’t stop,” Gaeul managed to whisper. San opened his eyes, searching hers for a few moments, making sure she was okay before he leaned in and kissed her where they wanted it the most.
yumi. we need to talk, yumi. yumi, can you even imagine, even fathom the irreversible damage this has done to my soul, my very being, the organ that keeps me alive on this planet? you will receive another of my therapy bills in your mail, just for your information because i will never be able to move on from this, i can't look at San the same way i did before reading this. i am short of breath just thinking about this scene.
“Would you want to live if you lost the one thing that kept you alive all these years? Your magic?”
“Am I not allowed to help someone I care for?” San asked quietly. “Am I not allowed to help her find a reason to live?” “I can’t force her to make the decision to live, can I? Bond or no bond.”
San wondered why it wasn’t raining- he wanted the skies to cry with him.
NOOO WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT!??!?!? HIM WANTING THE BEST FOR HER, WANTING TO PROTECT HER EVEN IF IT THAT MIGHT MEAN THEY HAVE TO PART WAYS :(((
“I wish I could go back in time and make it alright for San,” Yena wiped her eyes and Jongho patted her back. “But… I don’t want to relive anything from those few months again.”
Yena :( my baby Yena, gorgeous girly Yena :(( for her to even consider this is so brave when in reality she is the ONLY one who can truly relate to what Gaeul might be feeling in this moment, the potential threat of losing your soulmate, watching him die and not being able to prevent it, to risk making things worse for everyone around them too :(
[chapter 4]
i'm cackling at Hongjoong being absolutely done with history constantly rewriting itself, having to take notes the entire time like he's a stuck-up librarian archiving every possible change in the atmosphere lmao he's so tired of everyone and this realm but Gaeul comforthing him.. i might be growing another heart just for her
“Do you want to break me, Gaeul?” San’s voice was hoarse, and despite what he said, it made Gaeul smirk so devilishly slow that San decided that was enough- he got up slowly, shaking his head as he beheld the sight in front of him. He tipped her chin up until she faced him. “Tell me, Gaeul. Tell me what you want to do with me.” Gaeul tilted her head, considering- the darkness beneath his eyes excited her. She’d only seen San be gentle and teasing- she wanted to test him tonight, to see what extent he could go, where he would- “I want to watch you break apart under me.”
i- wha- excuse me? holy. fuck. i am trying my hardest to supply myself with oxygen right now, i promise but i still feel like i might pass out. i have a lot of words. i do. however. they would get me thrown off this site faster than i could chant halazia. so, i just hope you receive my turmoil, my thoughts thelepathically.
“I could even visit your castle before you actually take me there,” Gaeul teased. “Please don’t do that,” San laughed. “I want to show you our home when you’re with me.” Our home.
A magic- a whole world left unexplored. How many other doors did she never get to open?
:((( <33
“Let’s not interrupt him while he’s working. I have a better idea- we can turn him into a flower princess.” Yeosang was only pretending to have gone into hibernation and when he opened his eyes, saying “I dare you to try”, the screams that came out of Gaeul and Mingi as they clung on to each other could have woken up the dead.
i was absolutely howling at this part, i actually had to roll over and hold my stomach because the pain was to much from my laughing fit LMAO the old cartoon-like reactions throughout Horizon have some of the most funniest visuals i've read in years ksjslkjs also, as someone who read Take Me Home not too long ago, i love how distinctly different the relationships between the OCs and the Princes are like i feel so spoiled seeing the Yungi and Gaeul friendship blossom in Horizon <3
“Seonghwa told me I could talk to you if I ever needed someone. If everyone comes to talk to you, who do you go to?” Yunho smiled at that. “I go to the sea. I sit where the land and the ocean meet, and I pour my heart out. Then I let the waves carry it away.”“Just like me,” Gaeul looked ahead. “It’s been lonely.”
fanfictions, as their term entails, are forms of fictions and do not always represent the reality or the true self of the people or characters they are written about. but i love, i absolutely adore how much and how beautifully ateez members' cores shine through your writing, how we get gentle reminders, small peaks into their realities through your writing. it truly feels honoring reading and feeling the appreciation and understanding of members through such respectful and considerate moments. yunho who goes on healing trips, almost always by big bodies of water, his time spent at japan's beaches, boyfriend pictures at harbours and lakes, the waves that soothe his mind, the horizon that makes him recall sentimental moments and help him sort his thoughts. & the members who always tell atiny that yunho is the person that they all rely on, the one who knows to listen and what to say in the moment but also the one who holds back, who doesn't (over-)react and their worries where all his feelings find reprieve when he's the one always offering to soothe other people's turmoil. :( why do i make myself cry
[chapter 5]
the way you were teasing Neve's return in almost every chapter and how with every chapter that i read one after the other my hopes held high that i would finally get to see my baby again TT and now that he's finally here, i can't even put into words the euphoria i feel & then on top of that he seems to be getting sickly?? whyy would you do this to meee TT pleasee, i can take care of him, my babyboy
(flashbacks to Yena being trained by Neve and Mingi losing his mind of boredom lmao)
the panther dimension is so fucking cool, are you kidding me?? also Gaeul understanding the ancient language?? the literal language of life and the start of its existence??!?! ALSO HER BEING SO FREAKED OUT ABOUT IT LMAOSLSKLKSK (also me theorizing Gaeul's animal form might be some form of bat and then reading the panther's description hehe)
“Yes. For that, we had to intervene. We should have intervened earlier, but the damage was done. We used you as the last resort- a yin-yang faerie who’s soulmate happened to be powerful enough. We planted in Kieran’s head the idea to kill you. We let you die at the right time so the time-loop would end, so the faeries who sacrificed so much by leaving Earth and making Mirinae their home… they could all live. But for that… you had to die first.”
wtf? huh?! i kind of really want to hate them, omg. i hate this so much. oh god, the amount of grief, regret, the YEARS spent blaming themselves, each other, trying to fix something that somebody else was pulling the strings for. i- i don't even want to talk about it, wtf. you can't even FATHOM how breaking this is if you haven't read Take Me Home before you've read Horizon. this. is. ridiculous. (hate not in the literal sense! i'm astonished by the direction you took this and simultaneously upset for the character's sake, you're amazing for this!)
“Look, it’s your decision,” Neve raised his hand. “I’m just pointing out the odds. It’s worth trying to live because you’re going to die either way- a clean death or a slow death will be the only difference. You’d actually be a coward to choose death-” “You would have done the same,” Gaeul glared at him. “Can you imagine losing your magic and the soulmate bond?” “The former, I can,” Neve sighed. “Sometimes… it is wise to be a coward. You should have let me finish the sentence.”
is this.. are we.. did we just get a little bit of Neve lore??!? IS MY BABY OKAY?!?! HELP TT MY HEART BREAKS FOR DADDY NEVE WHY DIDN'T YOU WARN MEE
the way the narrative completely switched up. from Yena believing she was the one responsible for what Gaeul is going through right now because Yena's timetravelling must have messed up the dimensions when in reality Gaeul's murder was predestined to stop the time from looping and Seonghwa from continuesly being killed by Kieran which would eventually destroy the planet entirely. and the panthers seeing it as their responsibility (bare minimum tbh) to fix the timeline by sacrificing Gaeul, actually making HER the reason why Seonghwa and Yena ended up alive and together at the end of Take Me Home, OH MY GOD!
“You have something you want to live for now, don’t you?” Yunho asked. “I do,” she smiled at the memory of San.. “Then try, for us. Let us be selfish with you for once. Do it for yourself and for us. And… I promise that if things go south and I find you in pain that you cannot bear… I’ll take care of things. Me and Seonghwa and Hongjoong… we’ll take care of it.”
Yunho pursed his lips, looking like he could cry as the weight of it finally started sinking in. “Is there… is there a place you would like to rest at if it comes to that- heavens forbid it comes to that.” “You’d know even if I don’t tell you,” Gaeul winked and Yunho shook his head.
i am bathing in a tub of my own tears, my yuyu :(( <3 i loved how their friendship unfolded, how the element of water and its significance shone and flowed through Horizon. as a pisces during pisces season, i feel so emotionally attached to this friendship, my god. the power and comfort water holds for them tugged at my heartstrings and the depth they dipped to i found myself relating to more than once.
also, the weight that was lifted from my heart when Gaeul smiled? she's actually reached a point in which life doesn't induce fear within her. relying on other people, being considerate of them past the selfsacrificial bs and picking herself up. that co-dependancy issue we saw in the beginning did not have a chance to fester during the time away (considering now it was quite literally their power/energy (?) sucking the life out of one and giving it to the other (?). Gaeul's power is such an intriguing and powerful concept, even I would have sat down with Hongjoong in his library to make sure to write down every little detail for the next generations to know of.
ugh. i feel like I've got thrown into a blender because this was a wild ride of emotions. the tension and intensity between characters but also within the plot, the big reveal and just coming to know that this realm, this dimension, this entire universe that you've created spans so so much deeper than we can imagine. hell. at this point i believe this universe spans past even your own understanding in some form of manifested conscience in an alternative reality attuned to maladaptive daydreams lol damned inception, we might have fanfictioned a bit too close to the orange sun <3
i see you've taken breaks but also been working hard on more fics to come and i'm looking forward to them (anyways but) especially now that i've read every fic publicly available on your blog lol <3

Okay one shot idea for Mikey! 🐢🧡💚
Mikey has a crush on reader, but too afraid to say anything. One night rooftop Convo, Mikey confides to reader asking if they think anyone could ever one day find him desirable and sexy, because Donnie has had Vee for so long and most hans they accidentally interact with react mostly to Raph and pay attention to him or Leo. He starts steering the conversation to generalized attraction questions to see what reader thinks and prefers.
Reader really really has it bad for Mikey, but terrified of being too forward to the youngest purehearted innocent brother everyone is protective over and doesn't want to scare him off or make him feel horribly uncomfortable, and tries to keep their answers PG to respect Mikey but fires back with questions of their own trying to feel out Mikey's preferences and stances on things.
Little by little Mikey shows his more risque adult side with his answers and language that takes reader by surprise and attracts them that much harder,
Both of them take forever beating around the bush with their answers cause their both terrified of coming forward to each other but they start bonding more and more until reader finally gets bold and makes the first move - but in a very classy and respectful way - toward Mikey, melting Mikey's heart and having him square up at full height standing over reader and giving the moves back like a gentlemen but in a very Mikey way - being goofy, but still manly.
Reader confesses to what about Mikey they find as a thirst trap, why (to booster his believing them after so much self-insecurity) , and how long they've been thirsting for him.
Sorry it's so long XD. I hope it's not over done. I'm bad at asks. Lolol
You wrote a novel of an ask, but because you're the dear sweet Ravn, I'll gladly write that up for you 🧡🧡🧡 awuwuwuwuwuwuwu
it’s gonna be a bit more sfw than what was asked for, but simply because I let this small fic take the lead and it’s just so wholesome~

Someone Like You (Mikey x F!Reader)
(Mentions of my OC, Vee)
He asked you to meet him on top of an old, vacant apartment building, the flat roof overlooking a somewhat calmer part of the city. Those little escapades were not too uncommon for the terrapin to propose, but were often the promise of discussions that would lead until late into the night. Speaking with him was easy, and Mikey had found that same comfort over time in confiding to you as well. It wasn’t much, but felt needed - considering the life his family and he were living.
You heard a ‘thud’ and a roll, soon enough Mikey’s frame popping right next to you with a bright smile and slightly panting.
“Parkour!” he simply declared with a quick chuckle.
“Show-off,” you teased back with a gentle slap on his shoulder.
In no time you were both seated by the edge of the roof, feet dangling in the open and watching any cars, pedestrians, or anything of the like go by. Whether it was to compliment any aspects of them or creating outlandish stories, that activity often brought the two of you into a laughing fit, and even for you to lock your arm around his, head resting against his shoulder. It was a small gesture, but the sweetness of it would bring that tiny squeeze in Mikey’s heart; one that was more akin to sadness than joy. He paused, gaze lost on the horizon - but most frankly because he didn’t want to look at you while he was speaking next:
“Hey, uh... do you think I’d ever find someone interested in me?”
You looked up to him, arching a brow.
“Where’s that question coming from?”
He lightly shrugged: “I dunno... I’ve just been thinking about some stuff lately. Everything’s just so mixed up and messed up.”
“Aight, what’s up, coconut? Gimme the deets.”
The ghost of a smile crossed his lips, somehow feeling a bit more relaxed and open.
“Meeting people is not really something my brothers and I will get the chance to do often. ... I mean, Donnie got lucky with Vee; two dorks in a pod. And have you seen Raph and Leo? Those two could probably get swarms of people adoring them if we were out in the open.”
“What’s different for you then?”
“I’m the stupid baby brother,” he sighed sharply. “... I know I’m not the tallest, not the handsomest, not the strongest, not the whatever-est! ... I’m just that goofy mutant people will choose last.”
“Woah, woah, woahh,” you stopped him, your frown now formed. “Says who?”
Mikey’s thoughts raced, trying to think of a good answer, broadly gesturing the scenery before them.
“Fuck if I know! The world? Beauty standards? Hollywood? Humanity? Y’know what I mean? We’re not really the most normal choice for any human being.”
“And yet you have Vee with Donatello. Isn’t that proof that you might be wrong?”
The terrapin’s stature slumped a little: “Yeah but Donnie’s smart. That’s already better than me.”
“Oh for fuck’s sake,” you tsked, somehow feeling powerless against any and all of his excuses.
That brought a silence in the conversation, the tension weighing on you both a little. That pause did bring an idea to Mikey’s mind, looking back at you with a shy smile, trying to ease the mood.
“Hey, you’re a human-” that made you snort a little. “-What’s your preferences in terms of partner? Maybe that’ll help me figure out what I need to aim for so I can woo the ladies.”
Your features were now relaxed, slightly shaking your head: “Mikey, you shouldn’t change for anyone in the world.”
“Ay, whatever, now answer the question.”
You were now sweating bullets internally. For quite some time now your feelings had started to blossom for the turtle and you had been struggling to approach the subject in a natural, non-awkward way. Maybe this was finally the chance?
“I like them strong. And funny. And compassionate. And cute.”
“Now that’s too broad,” commented Michelangelo. “Tell me something more specific.”
“Will you stop complaining!” you replied in an exasperate, yet still amused tone. “Just give me a moment to think, jeez louise.”
Seeing how he seemed amused by your small desperation, you nudged his arm.
“While I’m thinking about it, what about you?” you questionned. “Surely you must have some preferences as well.”
The terrapin’s smile grew in a shy fashion: “That wouldn’t be fair of me to have certain standards,” he started. “I can’t really be picky when it comes to my situation, ya know?”
He wrapped an arm around your shoulders, keeping you close as he extended his other arm up to give emphasis to his words: “But I have three words: Funny. Caring. Sexy.”
You looked up to him, unimpressed: “Now that’s too broad,” you quoted him back.
That brought him into a laughing fit, which you joined in no time. In that moment you enjoyed the proximity, finding comfort against his scales and humming in small contentment as the hilarity died down.
“... This is what I like,” you started softly. “Spending moments like this with someone I care about.”
You felt Mikey’s body tense up a bit, although he never moved his arm from around you. Meeting his baby blue eyes seemed to calm him a bit, your tender smile reassuring any concerns he might have had at the moment.
“You... you mean it?” he added tentatively.
“Since quite a while, yeah,” you confessed. “I mean ... how could I even resist that body, hot damn!” adding next with amusement.
“Oh you have no idea what you’re getting yourself into, sugar tits.”
That made you laugh again, catching you off-guard. Feeling him nuzzle your hair simply reinforced that sensation of goodness, as if you were floating on a cloud. Bringing your attention back to him again, you moved a hand to his cheek, this sweet, tender motion getting a small churr out of Mikey - especially when your thumb started to slowly stroke his scales.
“You see?” you started once more. “You don’t have to change for anybody. ... You’re perfect the way you are, Mikey. All I need is someone like you.”
He was lost in thoughts for a second, rewinding the conversation you two just had.
“... You think I’m strong, funny, compassionate and cute?”
Your smile was now warm, knowing he was listing back what you said earlier.
“Of course, silly! I just had you in mind when I said that.”
You saw him move his free hand, leaving a finger to the side of his throat, were a pulse would be at. He frowned lightly:
“... Aight, I’m still alive. This ain’t heaven. Coolcoolcoolcool, cooooool.”
“Did I say something wrong?” you added, slightly nervous.
Mikey was quick to react: “Goddamn, no! This is probably the second best day of my life, ever!”
“What’s the first?”
He grinned: “When I discovered pizza, duh.”
“Oh, oh sure, yes. How could I ever forget about the divine food of the gods,” you replied, mokcing a serious tone.
His hold on you squeezed a little more, bringing you both closer.
“Now you’re speaking my language. We’re truly made for one another,” he added, trying to sound flirty.
This amusement felt so natural and comfortable, it was pretty much a no brainer when you closed the remaining small distance and gave a first kiss to his lips. The mutant was surprised at first, but easily complied as his heart threatened to burst out of his chest. As you both paused, keeping close, a whisper left your lips:
“I like you, Mikey.”
To which he replied in a similar tone, before kissing you again: “I like you too.”

Twice the Chaos: Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Pairing: Rosalie Hale x (Fem!DemonHybrid)OC: Pandora Barlowe
Summary: You were only passing through. You had nowhere to go; you were the spawn of Satan himself. There was no place in the world for you. Until you met a blonde vampire.
Warnings: Parental Abandonment, Depression, Chaotic Life
A/n: Listen... I’m just tryna see something here...
Key: Bold/Italics = Telepathic Conversation/Thoughts
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your mother had left you when you were of age; not wanting to take care of a freak. That was how your mother always referred to you. Your Father? He was never around. Since being left out into the streets, life has been absolute chaos. You try to make a living for yourself; but you began developing new features.
“I’m sorry, we can no longer have you be working at our establishment,” The owner comes up to you
You were just trying to clean tables; next was you getting fired?
“What? Why? I haven’t violated any of your rules,” You try to counter-argue, “More so, I’ve been trying to not violate them...”
“Your... Vibe... Everyone’s giving us weird looks... It’d be better if you no longer worked here,” He doesn’t budge
You storm out of your former workplace.
That is IT! I’m done!
You try running your hands through your hair but you felt something knock against your fingertips.
Stubs?! That can’t be...
You saw something move from the bottom corner of your eye.
A tail?! What the absolute hell is happening?
You run off to the woods in order to avoid getting any further attention from humans. You did everything... Just simply trying to get through like at the age of 18. Clearly it wasn’t going to happen...
You are beginning to become like me...
Who said that?!
You were beginning to freak out.
Your father...
What are you talking about?! My dad was never around! He could be dead for all I know and care!
You don’t get it do you?... I am your father...
Father?
You were sure your father just ran off with another woman. But, it wasn’t logically possible to have someone telepathically speak to you.
Why am I going to believe some voice in my head that’s never been around until now?!
You just try to get the same voice out of your head.
You’re like me... You can come home. You won’t have to worry about being judged here...
Home?! My mother threw me out as soon as I turned 18... Since then I couldn’t even keep a single job afloat without anyone that comes within my radius getting me fired because of my “bad vibes”! Well, look at it this way-
No! Face it! There’s no place for me!!!!! Heaven or Hell? Doesn’t matter... There’s no damn place for a freak like me...
The voice in your head ceased then. But, the development of new features hadn’t. Your stubs? Grew into small horns. Tail? Resembled a Demon’s tail. Pointed end and everything.. It’s been months since you had your last job... Anyone really. You use a beanie to cover your horns and you shove your tail into your pants or jacket; whichever was comfortable. You mysteriously was still stable enough to create your own little place in the woods. But, it was still depressing for you. You still thought about how your mother abandoned you, getting fired just because of the vibes you give off, despite trying to be a normal human.
“Why me?...” You ask yourself, “Why me?....”
You look up as soon as you felt a single raindrop fall.
I need a new tarp... But, I’m not in for going back into town... They wouldn’t eve just as so sell me a new tarp... Whatever I guess...
Tumblr media
You had passed out while the rain was going on. However, when you open your eyes, you were expected to feel wet. But, you felt warm. You look up to see a brand new tarp draped over your small hideout and you look back down to see a Sherpa-lined blanket engulfing you in warmth.
Who?...
“Got me these?...” You ask yourself
You crawl out of the hideout and try to look around the woods to see if there was anyone else that had been camping out. But, no such people were there. You scoff but felt thankful that someone was sympathetic enough to give you a whole new tarp to go over your head and a blanket.
Fortunately it had stopped raining by the time you went out to go fishing to get your fill for the day. To be honest, it didn’t feel so bad when you would be out fishing, you found a big enough lake to see the sun rise and set over the horizon, you were able to catch a handful of fish to get you through each day.
I see you’ve grown accustomed to living on your own... Nice job kiddo.
What did I say about coming out to “chat”? Don’t try and persuade me to “Come home”.
I’m not. I’m just checking in on you. You claim that there’s no place for you here... Yet, you’ve made a small place for yourself?
Might as well be somewhere off the grid.
Not to that once blondie...
A blondie?... Who?...
Not sure, but that new tarp and blanket? That’s from her.... She’s been coming nearly every night...
You watch me sleep?...
I do it to protect you so you could sleep.
Don’t try and act like my dad... I’m fine without him....
You still don’t believe me?..
Still haven’t seen you face to face.
You wouldn’t want to see me face to face....
Good, we’re on the same page then. Don’t think I’d want to meet my old man anyway...
Once dusk had hit, you were putting out a firepit you had set up to cook the fish you had caught not too long before.
I got you kiddo. Go ahead and sleep.
I said don’t treat me like you’re trying to be like my dad. I never knew him anyway...
You take the blanket and use a couple of your flannels as a pillow.
Goodnight...
Night.
The same old routine persisted. You felt the off-putting vibes on how you were able to be this stable, especially living in an unused shed of all places that was clearly in a state of decay.
I think that blondie has taken a liking to you.
She’s still in question? She doesn’t even know me... How could you know?
When she would come check on you, just last night she was lying next to you. I know because she’s been visiting every night.
And she can’t see you?
No one can.
That’s a ‘shocker’... But can she not hear you?...
Only you and myself.
“Weird...” You take a deep breath as you sit against the tree
You were kind of fishing from sitting on a tree branch, decently high from the ground.
Tumblr media
You’ve thought about the last several nights you were sleeping in your little hideout space. You would open your eyes, but still be half asleep. As you were half awake and half asleep; you could have sworn you felt an arm hooked around your waistline. But you don’t think anything of it as you pass right back out. The feeling would be gone in the morning.
You really think there is someone?
She’s come every night. Who knows? Maybe you’ll be taken to where she lives.
Out here? In the middle of nowhere? I doubt it..
Like clockwork, you set up your makeshift flannel pillow and lay across the old tarp you decided to use as a covering form the molding hardwood floor.
You open your eyes and realize the cold morning feeling is no longer around. Your eyes begin adjusting to so much light coming into the room.
“You’re awake now?” A feminine voice asks you
You were startled. Startled to the point where you fell off the bed. You groan at the impact. Trying to gain your vision back, a figure comes walking over to you. You immediately sit up and begin backing away.
“You-you don’t wanna be near me,” You say, almost in a drunken state, “I’m no good around people...”
“Says who?” She asks
“Says the many people that have fired me from jobs because of the vibes I give off,” You groan when you feel the wall against your back
“Well, they just go by the book cover,” She says, helping you back into bed, “You should lay down... You hit your head there pretty hard.”
In your still blurred vision; the woman’s hair was brunette.
That isn’t her...
But, she isn’t giving off any bad vibes...
I’ll be the judge of that...
You try to sit up again but a hand is gently pressed against your shoulder.
“My daughter will be here any minute to check on you,” She says, calmly, “You should thank her when you have the chance... She felt miserable watching you every night.”
She... Felt miserable?...
See? She does like you.
But, she still barely knows me. I don’t even know her name and vice versa.
That could change here.
Will you just stop talking?....
The next time you open your eyes, your vision slowly coming together; you saw a faint color of blonde.
Could it be?...
“I told you you shouldn’t have brought that... Thing in here. She’ll get us all killed,” A male voice tries to persuade the blonde
“I couldn’t just leave her there,” She argues, “She was miserable. Carlisle and Esme already said she could stay here under my care.”
“If you get us killed it’s your fault,” He replies
You hear him storm out of the room.
“You’re awake for real now?” She sits at the bedside
“Where?-” You ask, trying to sit up
“My family estate,” She explains
“My-my stuff, some of my stuff-” You begin freaking out
“Already taken care of,” She slightly smiles
You sit up from the lush bedsheets, taking deep breathes as you try to wrap your head around the last several hours.
“How long was I out?” You ask the blonde
“Several hours,” She answers, “I continuously checked on you... You were... Crying, tossing and turning, talked in your sleep...”
“Oh? What about?” You ask
“Does... ‘Why me?...’, ‘What am I?...’ Ring a bell?” She asks
It does for me.
Shut up.
“I may have had those kinds of panic attacks while I slept...” You explains, “Which is why I look like shit right?..”
“I was going to say that you’ve slept for so long,” She says, cocking an eyebrow at you, “But if you think that too than you do you.”
It was an awkward silence for the both of you. You didn’t know what to make of this blondie.
I like her.
I said shut up.
What? She’s pretty, she’s looked after you the last serval nights.
That doesn’t mean she’s my soulmate or anything... We barely know each other, let alone each others’ names.
“My name’s Rosalie Hale,” the blondie answers
“Huh?” You ask, removing the bedsheets from your legs
“You... Didn’t know my name so... Thought I’d tell you,” She says, “Now, you must be hungry.”
“Yeah,” You say, in a suspicious tone, “Lead the way blondie.”
“It’s Rosalie,” She corrects you
“Alright blondie,” You continue using that nickname
Rosalie turns to you to try and hit you. You easily block her arm with yours. For the first time since childhood, you laughed. A genuine laugh had come out of your mouth. You stopped dead in your tracks; making Rosalie turn to you.
“You okay?” she asks, walking up to you
A chill runs up your spine as you feel her gentle touch against your forearm. You look back at her with a slight surprise. But, Rosalie didn’t seem phased by your sudden change in expression.
“Yeah,” You sigh, “I haven’t laughed in awhile... It’s.. Been a very long time.”
“How long is a long time?” She asks
“Probably when I was a little kid...” You sigh, “Since then, I’ve never really learned to smile, laugh or experience any sort of positive thing...”
“I’m so sorry,” She says, her expression changing to concern, “Well, what matters most is that you now have an actual roof over your head. You are under my care now.”
“You- don’t do me any favors blondie!” You try to protest
“Too late!” She smiles, letting out a small giggle
Ooooh, I do like her.
Aren’t you a fire spirit or something? Lay off buddy.
Oh we getting jealous now huh?
What?!- No! You aren’t physically here, so that means you can’t have blondie.
So you can?
That’s not what I’m saying- you know what, shut your trap!
“Your friend there is fond of me I see,” Rosalie blushes
“What? Him?” You ask, “You... Can hear him?”
“He’s in your head no?” She asks you
“Well, yes but- how can you know that?” You ask
“Let’s just say I’m full of surprises,” She smirks
You watch her walk off into the kitchen as you make eye contact with what looked to be her family members.
“I hope you’re well rested now sweetheart,” A brunette speaks
“That’s the adoptive mother and father; Carlisle and Esme,” Rosalie explains to you
“I’m sorry you have had a tough time these past few months,” Carlisle says, “But, you are more than welcome here.”
“Oh, just at least I can get back up on my feet,” You say, bashfully, “I wouldn’t want to take up any more space than I already have..”
“Nonsense!” A male voice enthusiastically says
Your feet lose contact with the ground. You let out a yelp as you try to get a vision of who had just grabbed you.
“That is my brother... Emmett Cullen,” Rosalie scoffs, “He’s a little bit... Chaotic..”
“Chaotic is my middle name,” He jokes as he sets you right back onto the ground
“Four of our other kids are somewhere around...” Carlisle explains, “Oh, they must be out hunting. You’ll see them when you see them.”
“Thank you again,” You say
Quite a family...
You’re telling me...
After you had gotten a proper meal for the first time in months, you found yourself in the library. You don’t really read that often anymore as you have come to the conclusion that it would take you a century to read a single book.
“Looking for something in particular?” Rosalie asks from the doorway
“To be honest... No,” You answer, “I guess I’ve just been wandering aimlessly. Never really been in a house this... Spacious..”
It’ll be much more spacious when you come live with me.
Like I said before. You are not my father and don’t try to have me come to wherever the hell it is that you live in.. Not a chance..
“You don’t get along with your dad very well?” Rosalie asks
“Never knew him...” You sigh, looking out to the forestry that surrounded the estate, “My mother said he left as soon as I was born...”
“Hey, before you go on, do you... Want to talk about it elsewhere?” She asks, placing her palm over your upper arm
“That would be nice,” You slightly smile
“I know a place,” Rosalie smiles
In one swift motion, Rosalie hoists you over her shoulder.
“You better hold on leech,” Rosalie teases
“That should be ME telling you that,” You nervously chuckle
Rosalie hops out of an open window; breaking into an inhuman speed. You weren’t sure where to hold on along Rosalie’s clothing without touching an area where Rosalie wouldn’t want you to touch her. So you just hang over her shoulder. Almost like a heavy weight.
“You doing okay?” Rosalie asks
“Yep!” You sort of lie, “Good as we can be blondie!”
“We’re almost there!” Rosalie announces to the both of you

linger
listen before you read!
Tumblr media
robert plant xfem!oc
warnings : drug use, swearing, trucklot of angst ;)
word count : 2.1k
an: was listening to ‘linger’ by the cranberries and I couldn’t pass up this angsty idea I got 😎 timeline is off but yolo ig...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sloane leaned down to the table to take an extra line for her pre-performance nerves. She felt a little more nervous today, this particular concert being one of the largest yet. She was the front woman of The CAPs, who were opening for Led Zeppelin for their summer of ‘69 tour. This was exactly the break the band needed, finally getting recognition for all their talent and hard work over the last two years.
She applied a little powder to her face, and patted on her classic red lipstick to her slightly chapped lips. Securing the clasps of her platform red heels, she shook her body in hopes of shaking away her anxious jitters. Once she had finished her body-shaking ritual, she walked out from the wings of the stage.
As she walked across to centre stage, wind blowing through the holes of her white crochet dress. The crowd cheered loudly as the band waved to them.
“How’s everyone doin’ today? It’s so hot today, my boobs are sweating off!” She greeted the crowd with her bubbly nature. Adjusting the mic stand to her height, she continued to address the huge crowd. “Today’s set list will have a slight adjustment to it, we’re starting off with a new song I wrote just last night. It’s a little softer than our other music, so just sit back- or should I say lean back on the person behind you - and relax. This is called ‘Linger’ "
While she was speaking to the crowd, a teenage roadie ran onto the stage and placed a stool, for Sloane to sit on, and disappeared again in a heartbeat. The crowd, didn’t even take notice of the young boy, entranced with the tawny blonde singer as usual.
Sloane sat down, crossed her legs and nodded toward Rory, to begin. Rory started picking a simple guitar melody on his trusty Gibson acoustic, the first guitar he ever picked up. Sloane swayed lightly to the rhythm, eyes on the horizon above the crowd. Soon after, Marshall joined in with quiet, but strong beat on drums. At the same time, Oscar added the baseline to the song.
Taking a deep breath, Sloane began the song.
If you, If you could return, Don’t let it burn, Don’t let it fade, I’m sure I’m not being rude, It’s just your attitude, It’s tearing me apart, It’s ruining every day
I swore, I swore I would be true, But honey so did you, So why were you holding her hand? Is that the way we stand? We’re you lying all the time? Was it just a game to you?
Sloane sang gently, her eyes closed with a pained look on her face. She thought back to the day before, when everything fell apart.
———
“Sloane, honey, please tell me what’s wrong! You’re being so closed off with me today!” Robert pleaded, grabbing her hand while she was walking away. Sloane yanked her hand away and walked towards an empty storeroom in the hotel corridor.
“Don’t get any ideas, we need to talk privately” Sloane commanded as she entered into the storeroom. It had barely enough space for both of them to fit, being crammed full with towels and bedsheets.
“Please, love, jus’ tell me what’s bothering you, I wanna make you happy”
“Oh fuck off Robert, you’re so fake and a liar. These past couple of months have all been a lie!”
“What’re talkin’ about? I have never lied to you once”
“Seriously? ‘I’ve never lied to you’? Are you actually for real right now? Do you know what I just found out Robert? You’re fucking married! And she’s coming here tonight! You didn’t think I would deserve to know that!” She yelled, ignoring her previous statement about keeping this private.
“I didn’t tell you because I was scared okay? I have never felt like this before with anyone else. All the groupies were just for sex, but when I met you I had fallen for you Slo, you make me a better person in every way”
“I don’t care how I make you feel, you’re still married! With kids! How would they feel if they found out their father was in a relationship with a woman other than their mother? I can’t believe you did this to me willingly, even after I told you what happened with my parents. That messed me up, seeing my father with another woman, and leaving my mother for her. Never seeing him again, choosing his new family over me and my siblings. That hurts me the most Robert, you knew my history and you ignored it!” Sloane cried out, tears falling freely on her face, running her dark eye makeup.
“I never meant to hurt you love, you mean so much to me. I just didn’t think- I never fuckin think, but I my feelings were so strong for you, I never thought about Maureen, I’m shamed to admit it” Robert plead, guilt weighing on his conscience. He reached out to wipe her tears away, but Sloane turned her head, the same pained look on her face.
“We’re done. I can’t stay with someone who could forget about their own wife and kids, and forget to tell their girlfriend that she’s actually a mistress. Goodbye” Sloane said, pushing her way out of the cramped closet, before running to the elevator at the end of the hall.
———
But I’m in so deep, You know I’m such a fool for you, You got me wrapped around your finger, Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to? Do you have to let it linger?
Sloane sang emotionally, a single tear escaped her tear duct. She took the break for guitar solo to take a couple deep breathes, and to calm her heightened emotions down.
Oh, I thought the world of you, I thought nothing could go wrong, But I was wrong, I was wrong
If you, if you could get by, Trying not to lie, Things wouldn’t be so confused, And I wouldn’t feel so used, But you always knew, I just want to be with you
———
Sloane sat at the large round table, sipping her wine. The two bands had just completed all the concerts in France, and were having a celebratory dinner for the night. The lights were dim in the fancy restaurant, but Sloane could still see the heartbreaking sight of Maureen and Robert cozying up to eachother. She longed to be the one Robert was dedicated to, to be his Maureen, to be the one who sipped on his beer instead of her wine for a change, to rest her hand on his knee. She wished to be the one who would sleep with him in bed each night, without a worry of cheating or unfaithfulness. Her heart was also broken for Maureen, she was so inlove with Robert, as was he with her. She was also probably the greatest mother out there, being a single parent for a lot of the year.
Sloane switched her focus from the smitten couple, to Marshall and John Bonham's discussion on gongs, congas and all exotic drums.
Everything had been going so well, the concerts each night going to wonderfully, the bands got on great together. Even all the touring crew and management got on well with eachother. It was like one, big, slightly dysfunctional family.
Sloane wished she could vent to one of her bandmates about her case of ill fated love, but she knew if she told any of the CAP boys, tension would arise between the bands, and she simply couldn't bear to break the harmony.
“I’m sorry everyone, but I feel a bit ill and I think it would be best if I went to my room” Sloane announced, rising from her chair. She briefly locked eyes with Robert, before averting her eyes that threatened to fill with tears.
“Are you sure you’re okay Slo? I can come up and look after you if you feel faint or anything?” Rory asked genuinely, concerned for his little sister, he noticed she had been a little less bubbly than normal today.
“I’m fine Ror, I’ll think being on the go and travelling for the last couple of months has caught up with me. I’ll call you if I need you. Love you” she said, hugging him tightly.
“Love you, stay safe sis”
A chorus of goodbyes were heard as she left the table and walked out of the brassiere restaurant.
As soon as she entered her large room, she decided to clean up her stuff in order to distract herself. She folded all her clothes, tucked all her shoes into her suitcase, and cleaned up her makeup station on the vanity, placing the assortment of beauty products in the black makeup bag she owned.
After she was done cleaning, she ordered a couple bottles of wine, with some croissant from room service, taking advantage of the readily available French delicacies.
Lowering herself into the warm bubble bath she ran while waiting for her room service, her mind wandered to the whole situation, creating lyrics in her head. Luckily she brought her songbook, so there was no need to get out of the bath in search for it. She poured her heart out into the lyrics. After finishing the lyrics up, she soaked for a little longer, until she felt herself pruning and wrapped the fuzzy bath robe around herself.
She was about to turn off her bedside light to sleep, when she heard a light knock on the door. Her head scrambled, trying to figuring out who it was. Must be Rory checking up on me she thought. Opening the door, her heart skipped a beat at the visitor.
“Sloane let me-“
“Robert, please, I told you we were over”
“Will you let me speak, I need to talk to you”
Sloane stepped aside from the door, letting him in. She guided him to the seating area of the room, not wanting to risk being near the bed.
“Uh, d’want tea or something?” Sloane asked the blonde man, the air heavy with awkward tension.
“Yeah sure, love. That’d be great” Robert answered warmly.
“So, what do you want to say” Sloane asked, pushing his tea on front of him.
“Sloane, I’m sorry. I still do love you and I hate that I fucked everything up. I was just so infatuated- I still am, and I regret that I made you feel upset. I just want to say sorry”
“I- I still love you too Robert, it wasn’t just one sided, I really thought you were the one”
“Sloane, I don’t know what to say… If- if you ask me to, I will. I want you. I want to be yours.”
“Robert- I. I can’t do that. As much as I want to love you and be with you, I can’t be a homewrecker. I’ve seen the way you are with Maureen, you love her. I know in my gut that you’re better off with her. She loves you and deserves you 100%” Sloane’s face was wet with tears.
“Uh, okay. I’m sorry love, I really wish I didn’t fuck up our relationship. I really hope that one day we can be friends again, when you’re ready” Robert got up to leave, but was stopped when Sloane grabbed his hand.
“There’s a part of me that will always love you Robert. This was wonderful while it lasted” She spoke with a sad smile on her face.
Robert squeezed her hand in agreement, before exiting the room.
———
And I’m in so deep, You know I’m such a fool for you You got me wrapped around your finger, oh, Do you have to let it linger? Do you have to? Do you have to let it linger?
Oh I’m in so deep, You know I still have love for you, My love has wrapped me round your finger, oh, Do you have to let it linger? Do you have? Do you have to let it linger?
The CAPs finished their song, and Sloane stood up to thank the crowd.
“Robert, darling, there you are. Was that singer at the dinner last night?” Maureen asked warmly to her husband, joining him in the wings.
“Uh, yeah, but she left early because of travel sickness y’know the sort” Robert answered absentmindedly, his deep blue eyes trained on the lead singer, who was preparing for the next song in the band’s set list.
“I must have missed her. She’s gorgeous, isn’t she? I love that song she just sang, great voice” Maureen mused, admiring Sloane’s confidence , akin to her husbands.
“Yeah, yeah she is. She’s a beautiful person, inside and out”
New Frontier A Hollow Knight and Bug Fables crossover OC fic.
Full fic is under the cut!
PLEASE REBLOG!! MANY HOURS WENT INTO THIS AND I’D RLLY APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT!!
It had been a very interesting trip, taking the ferry from the continent Bugaria resided to the main continent known as The Outlands. Team Snakemouth, the heros of Bugaria were treated like celebrities everywhere they went. Everyone knowing them all by name and singing their praises, and if some weren't convinced of their greatness, many times bugs would contest them in combat and were quickly swayed into seeing their power. Vi especially enjoyed this attention.. being one of the first bees to truly venture beyond the Hive and find her place in the world as an explorer and rouge. The other two would often need to reel her in. Usually Leif did not mind Vi's more combative nature, so long as it wasn't a major risk.. though her pride is what both Leif and Kabbu would regularly keep in check. Leif appeared largely indifferent about their praise, but beneath his cold exterior, his friends knew he couldn't help but be grateful and flattered. Kabbu on the other hand loved the praise as much as Vi did, but unlike her, made sure to ground himself. If their mission around the legendary Everlasting Sapling taught him anything, it was that nothing was indestructible. Not the sapling, not his team, and certainly not him. After their first adventure however the one thing they all unanimously agreed on, was that they longed to continue their quests and even venture beyond Bugarias borders, and travel the mainlands.. The Outlands. They set sail into the world... the main continent.. the setting of their greatest adventures yet.
Team Snakemouth now walked on these ancient grounds.. and already the way they'd seen the world was beyond different than the world that came into view around them all. Chompy, the fourth and most beloved member of the team, who was resting comfortably around Vis neck and shoulders spread her autumn colored leaves.. taking in the bright sun. The other three gave a breath of pure awe.. The Outlands were full of rocky and mountainous terrain. Great mountains could be seen in the distance, their might and elegance seen plain and true even in the most distant horizons. "OOOUGH WHERE DO WE GO FIRST?! THE MOUNTAINS? THE PLAINS? THAT GIANT CLIFF?? OR- OR MAYBE WE COULD SEE WHATS OUT AT SEA OVER THERE!!" Squealed the VERY excited honeybee! "I'm not sure Vi! But my.. it is truly beautiful.. just as the tales foretold!" replied Kabbu. Looking just as giddy as Vi! The sun shining onto his iridescent green shell. "We feel like we've entered an entirely different realm. We can already feel an abundance of magic and energy here.." Leif remarked, spreading his navy blue and pale yellow accented wings. "Yeah yea, but can you imagine what kinda crazy treasure we could fine here? I heard this place is ancient as HELL!" "If I recall correctly Vi, The Outlands were settled eons before Bugarias continent was! It was filled with ancient scattered kingdoms." Kabbu knelt and placed his clawed hand on the ground, as if he were resting his claws on a monument of ancient history and peering into its secrets. "Hundreds of years ago, these lands were barren wastes. Polluted and corrupted with a dark substance.. These Outlands were once called The Wastelands, lawless and filled with mad bugs. That is why these scattered kingdoms existed. In a world devoid of life and law, someone had to do something." "Are these lands not still devoid of law? Law only exists in those kingdoms still we'd imagine." Inquired Leif. Kabbu stands back up and looks at his moth friend. "Well, yes and no. Some of the rulers of these lands keep an eye on the Outlands as a means of protecting potential citizens." Vi looked at Kabbu and raised a brow, "Jeez how do you even know all this stuff Kabbu?" "Well! If we planned on visiting this place, we might as well get to know it's history a little better." Vi shrugged, "Meh, fair. But hey, there's a lotta history in treasure toooo.~" "We anticipated a response like that. Lets not dally then. Kabbu, you know more about this place than either of us, do you know where we could head first?" Kabbu hummed wonderingly. "We could potentially head for the mountains, there are a fair few kingdoms there and we could stock up on supplies for the rest of our journey!" "FUCK YEA MOUNTAINS!!" Vi cheered, much to Kabbus displeasure hearing her curse like that again. "VI!! Watch your language!". Leif proceeded only to laugh.
It had been a long day, traveling to the base of the mountains. Bandits and beasts making attempts on their supplies and even their lives. Nothing they weren't used to really. Though there were a disturbing number of poachers. A dark stain from the Wastelands past economic practices; slaying bugs and selling valuable parts of them to the black market. Primarily wings, fluff, horns, hard shells and stingers, unique defenses of specific bugs, even certain pheromones to lure in bugs like ants. To say that their encounters with the poachers did not shake the group up a fair amount.. would be a dirty lie. They triumphed, but were still very on edge if they could harvest them. The sun began to set however, and the quartet was weary from the long day. Not a bad day, only a long one. Whimsy tainted by the reminder that the life of an explorer was still a dangerous one. Regardless, the team kept their spirits up. Knowing that the next day would bring great discovery! Following a nice meal and usual banter expected of their team, Team Snakemouth set up their temporary beds, and went to sleep for the night. Though one member of the team was far less of a deep sleeper than the others.. hearing faint, yet heavy footsteps, caused on of Vis antennae to perk up. She perked up, slowly looking around the area.. bathed in moonlight, yet sheltered from it in some areas with the rocks and shelter of the mountain and nearby terrain. But she could clearly see it. In the distance.. a tall, large and shadowed figure a fair distance from the team. It's silhouette was not one that Vi could identify, it appeared to have multiple horns, but the rest of its body held no defining traits. No abdomen, no wings, just a horned head and a long cloak.. as well as.. something spilling from its head that nearly dragged against the ground. Was... this even a bug? The lack of identifying features deeply frightened the bee. She remembered the last time she saw something like this. The reminder of the canniness of the Dead Landers shot a spine straight through her of pure fear and stress. This was... big. Not nearly as big as that.. thing with those large orange eyes was.. but it was still big whatever it was. Vi, now thoroughly terrified, slowly grabbed her beemerang and slowly approached the large rock that sheltered them from outside sight. Slowly she turned back to look at the figure. They appeared to sit down, back against the base of the mountain, sifting through items that Vi could not properly see due to the lighting. She squints to try and get a better look, before her heart was thrown into the base of her stinger. It looked at her. Two bright blue sparks for eyes stared directly at her. As quick as she could she immediately ducked back behind the rock, stifling any and every sound she made by desperately covering her mouth. Claws digging into her cheeks as fear overtook her. Dammit! Being stuck in this sort of situation scared the hell out of her, no, terrified her beyond words, but at this point she was starting to grow frustrated. They were fighters goddammit! Not cowards! Her and the others took out way worse than this, she- they could do this! So then why would her limbs not move an inch? Why was she still paralyzed with horror despite her frustration and rebellion against these intense feelings of fear?? She held her beemerang in a death grip, shaking intensely, which only grew worse when those footsteps began to approach once again. Move. MOVE! "VI! KABBU! CHOMPY! ON YOUR GUARD!" yelled out another voice. The familiar crack of Leifs magic smacking against the carapace of an enemy bug, as the large figure stumbled backwards with a grunt. Leif stood over his resting spot, glowing with that cold, blue magic. Kabbu and Chompy following suit. Chompy let out a horrendous roar, the chomper had grown in size since the teams first adventure, and while not as big as the mother she would eventually become, she was still quite formidable. Horrifyingly, the other "bug" let out an enormous and otherworldly sounding roar in response, as the appendages that came down its head flared up like black vines. Even Chompy recoiled at the sight. The creature leaped back, drawing a large sword and glaring with those bright blue eyes. "Vi!" Kabbu looked over to the trembling bee. "Come on, it's okay. Lets take care of this!" He held out his hand to help her up. Snapping out of her paralysis, she glared a serious look at Kabbu. "R-right!". The dark figure loomed over all four of them. Squinting at them as they readied for battle. "Four on one don't seem too fair.." it spoke.. it's voice, surprisingly normal sounding, though it had a sort of accent that struck the four as unfamiliar. "Yeah?! And NEITHER DOES SNEAKING UP ON A GROUP WHILE THEY'RE ASLEEP!!" Shouted Vi, anger and fear clear in her young voice. She threw the beemerang with all of her might, making a sharp CRACK as it made contact with the beast. It growled.. "I was doin no such thin' lil girl! I saw you gettin' a good look at me while I was lookin' through mah thin's!" Kabbus expression lightened a bit, "Wait- then maybe this was a misunderstanding?". The creature huffed, "S'fine. M' a big guy after all.. tend t'scare a few bugs out ere.. but since ya'll got up wantin' a fight then lets have one!" The creatures voice went from a gruff, tired and frustrated tone, to sounding as if it had all the energy in the world with the prospect of a battle. "BRING IT ON BIG GUY!! WE'LL WIPE THE FLOOR WITH YOU!!" Vi angrily shouted. Kabbu and Leif looked to one another, Vi's rage evident in her tone and posture. Kabbu and Leif knew there was no bringing her back from that, but they couldn't simply leave her to fight alone. They straightened themselves out once more. The creature turned out to be quite quick for its size, and it was able to take one hell of a beating. The Team would need to react quickly to block and chip away at its health. Saving Team Points primarily for healing and reviving, as well as low cost special attacks. Unlike The Everlasting King, it could heal but it could not steal health from them, and healing spent its entire turn. What sucked however was that his defense was high and his attacks hit hard. It was tough for sure, multiple times the team would go down, but they got right back up thanks to Kabbus pep talk and Vis shared stash. Eventually, for as long as the fight went on, it eventually ended with Team Snakemouth as the victors. As the beast finally fell, the light of dawn spilled over the land. Everyone was weary and very injured. The beast chuckled, "Good fight... hh..hhh.. ain't had one like that n' a while I gotta say. Good job.." "Who.. hhh. are you.?" "And more importantly WHAT are you..?" Kabbu asked before quickly being interrupted by Vi. With the light of dawn more of the beat became visible. Its horned head was an off-white shell, that looked almost like a mask, even the right side of it had a long crack that stretched from the top of its head to the base of its chin with some grass stains littering it in some places. It wore a black and grey patchwork cloak with a blue medal clipped to it and lastly, it's eyes. Not fully blue, in fact mostly black with blue pupils that looked like sapphire rings. What spilled down from its head however? None of the bugs could identify. It wasn't antennae, or fur, and while they somewhat looked like vines, they were smooth and black and even appeared to glimmer as if they were wet. "M'names Finnley. M' from a far away Kingdom ere.. betcha mighta heard uh Hallownest. But guessin yer not quite sure what I am thats- actually a toss up huehue!" Kabbu perked up a little bit. Despite his exhaustion, he couldn't help but be excited. "I have heard mentions of that place, yes! But its whereabouts and information I am unfortunately unaware of." It was hard to tell, but Finnleys face appeared.. vaguely happy.. despite lacking a mouth and appearing more like a mask. "Well. S'where me n all my kind 're from. We're vessels, n all of us 'r siblin's too! Ya might actually run intuh a few'uh us out ere!" Leif canted his head slightly, "Vessels. An odd name for a species of bug.." "Yeah and how are ALL of you siblings?" Vi interjected, skeptical of Finnleys claims. "Well it's a long ass story, one ion't think you'd wanna hear all of from me. But you stick round long enough you'll find out soon enough. S'pretty common knowledge ere." Finnley perks up a bit. "Oh! Shit I should probably heal yall up actually. Er, gunna need t' hold yalls hands t'do it though, if ya don' mind." Leif extended his hand, aware of what this could be. He's proven correct when white energy swirls around Finnley, moving over to Leif. Patching up his wounds. Soul focus. An ability utilized by only gods, higher beings and powerful mages. Kabbu and Vis eyes widened. "Woah what the hell?? How did you do that??" Asked Vi, amazed. "Soul Focus." spoke Leif. "But we believed only higher beings, gods and powerful mages could do something like that.. we did not take you to be any of those things." "S'a long story, again, like I said. But ey. S'th' least I can do after scarin yuhs." Finnley chuckles before healing Kabbu, Vi and Chompy as well. "Thank you kindly Finnley. We should likely introduce ourselves as well come to think.. My name is Kabbu. This is Leif, this is Vi, and this.." he lifts up the chomper plant. "Is Chompy!". Finnley giggles again, stroking Chompys head with his finger. "D'aw! Cutie pie! S'one hell of a murder machine but a cutie pie nontheless." "We agree wholeheartedly." Agreed Leif. After a while of speaking, Finnley gave the group a map of the Outlands, as well as what places to avoid, and a list of hotspots to rest up and stock up before actually making it to a kingdom. "If yer thinkin' uh goin up t'the mountains, ah'd suggest goin t' Xhalyun. Eroanne's nearby Xhalyun too n both 'r cold as hell, but Xhalyun shit is a helluva lot cheaper than Eroanne, closer too." Finishing that thought he handed Kabbu the map, to which he made a delighted squeak of excitement. "Thank you kindly, Finnley. Despite first impressions I am very glad to have run into you!" Leif nods in agreement as Finnley lifts up his bag. "Ain't no problem sir. I wish ya'll luck out there. N hey, maybe if we meet again ya'll can tell me shit bout Bugaria. Been wantin t'head over there myself someday." "Oh you'd love it there! It's a wonderful place.." Finnley nodded, before kneeling down to Vi. "Ay kid, sorry fer scarin' ya." He holds out his hand and Vi raises a brow. "Let's battle again sometime aight?" Vi hesitates for a second before her usual smirk returns to her, placing her hand in his for a handshake. "Abso-goddamn-lutely heheh!! Better be a bigger challenge next time though!!" Finnley gave a great laugh and stood back up again. "You too kiddo! If you ain't gettin better ain't no damn point in it! I'll catch ya'll later uh?" "For certain. Take care." remarked Leif with a smile, as both teams parted ways.
As the towering Vessel took his leave.. he chuckled to himself.. "..Seeker.. Wanderer.. I wish ya'll could come with me when I go t'Bugaria.. I know ya'll'd love diggin' intuh th' place.." "...Maybe one day we will.. I'd love that."
You awoke to a light breeze streaming through the window encouraging you to snuggle deeper within your bed. About to fall asleep once more only to hear the call of your name from within the next room. Reluctantly you slid out of bed, slipping on your slippers and sliding on your robe you make your way to the room over. Opening the painted door you peered through to see your darling daughter happily making her bed.
“Ready to start the day?”
“Mmmmh, I want to have enough time to dance in the daisies.”
You chuckled.” O-okay then. I want you to save your dancing dress for after you complete your chores.”
She enthusiastically nodded; pushing the dress she laid out for her working overalls. Helping her when she needed you let her get dressed on her own, only fully stopping her to tie her hair up and tuck it under her stetson hat. She followed closely behind you as you also changed to your working attire.
From feeding the chickens to herding the sheep to managing crops between the both of you it was done. By the time you both had finished the sun was setting and the breeze blended perfectly with the glaze of the horizon. After you both washed up and changed, as you promised, you let her wear her daisy dress and you your lazy shirt.
Saddled down on the green flowing grass, you watched as your daughter ran to the patch of daisies that happened to grow near the front of the house and farm. You watched her twirl and dance with the flowers blanketing her feet. You smiled as you could hear her acting out characters synonymous with the princesses you told in your stories. Magical. Powerful. You on the otherhand were enjoying the peace of the moment. No titans. No conflicts. No humans.
In the distance without seeing the actual offender you hear the clopping of a horses’ hooves. You quickly went to the side of the house pulling out your handy shotgun and pocketing the family handgun. Calmly returning to your spot you casually began walking to your daughter, who was still obviously twirling around.
You looked out to the tree line prepared to see whoever was riding this horse. Cocking the gun you pointed at where you expected the head to be. Only to be thoroughly surprised when all you saw was the top of a Survey Corps hood; there was only one person you could think of that would so drastically miss your general sniping.
“Levi?”
“Daddy!”
Before you could do anything your daughter sprinted to the halting horse and jumped into the arms of your husband. In suit you dropped your gun from your hold to drag it back to the entrance of your house followed by Levi who’s being tugged by your daughter. You placed your gun on the side of the door as you took out the food you had left roasting over the fire and removing the tea you had begun brewing. You were faced away when the duo came through a mixture of laughter and questions.
Feeling the squeeze of Levi’s arms around your waist and his tired weight leaning upon you; you hummed leaning your head against his as he rested his head on your shoulder. You were going to tease him, your smirk was creeping and you gave him that look but you were stopped by the squeeze of your knees by none other than your daughter. Who seemed to watch the interaction and immediately felt left out.
So you stalled your teasing for after you both had cuddled with her and kissed her head goodnight. Stepping out into the hallway of the house you let out a tired sigh before trying to leave your room. Keyword: trying. Looking back at him to see why he had latched onto your wrist and wouldn’t let go you immediately as he shifted his arms to hold you. You knew he was a strong man who handled a lor and you didn’t expect him to cry but as you promised you’d be here if and when he wanted. Ignoring the damping on your shirt you simply hugged him in return; and when he pulled away to capture your lips like the thirstiest man alive you didn’t complain. Reciprocating the action as you both moved to the bedroom.
“How long do you have, mwah?”
“Mmm three days.”
“Let's make the most of it, okay.”
“Lets.”
You didn’t keep him any longer, continuing to drink in one another’s bodies and let nothing but the pure emotion of your reunion once more.
Sorry I just need to-
Agshdncjnfjf-
MSM 2017 oc times?? If that's alright with this tiny fandom-
Tumblr media
Please click and/or press on it for better quality!
First of all hewo - it's @weirdotaku1000 / @winged-sky100
I tried making an art acc but that didn't work out too well so ig it's this one.
Second of all-
Hewo to the small msm 2017 fandom, I revamped an MCU oc for this cause why the heck not- :D
Am I a little nervous about posting this? Yes-
Am I gonna post this anyways? Also yes-
Without further ado, meet Nyx, my beloved [which is also partially part of an au thing too]:
NO NO NO NO NO WAIT I NEED TO EXPLAIN SOMETHING FIRST HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON HOLD ON-
Because I am dumb and I know more about Greek Mythology rather than Norse Mythology, Nyx is - kinda like a reincarnation/ "Next Nyx" of the Greek Goddess Nyx- but like - her power stuff is also super nerfed + she needs to learn how to use them so y e ah- stuff happened when she was a baby and more will be explained later bc I don't want this to be too long but she ended up on Asgard + was adopted by Odin because I'm unoriginal and this is, again, a revamp on my old MCU OC so y e e-
NOW it's time for the info dump:
She lives with Tony Stark due to the request of Thor - Thor trusts him enough to take care of Nyx.
Instead of Frigga dying because of the Elves when she was 12 in the MCU, Frigga's death was more recent, along with Loki's fake death [but bc this is a different universe Loki is good and he didn't attack Earth bc I said so, and also bc I haven't heard of Loki being bad on Earth-17628 yet]
Nyx's fear response is freeze bc that's what happened when Frigga was killed, she was hiding and she saw it happen.
She can control the fear freeze she instinctively does but only up to a certain point.
She hates questions about what happened with her staying on Asgard.
She does answer questions about Loki and Thor though bc she has some tea on the both of them- 👁🍵👁
She gets into Horizon High right after the Stark Expo - she was there and she met Peter, Miles, Anya, Gwen, Flash and Harry that way. Stark was also at the Stark Expo to check out some schools to see which one would be good for Nyx to go to bc she grew a liking to robotics when she was recovering from everything at Stark's place.
Nyx is very curious about everything and pretty quiet/nervous around new people.
When she gets excited about something she will ramble about it.
She is allergic to most make-up. She asked Gwen to do hers for a dance once and when she got there it was itchy and it felt weird so she asked both her and Anya to help her get it off - she had red blotches on her face so never again for rn-
She is Asexual Demi-Panromantic - she found that out while hanging out at that one smoothie place with Harry and Pete one day.
After she gets used to everyone/friends with the main group she gives a lot of hugs-
She's still trying to find out more about her powers n stuff bc she's the Greek Goddess/next personification of the night in Greek Mythology.
Apparently in Greek Mythology she has prophetic powers so I'm just reducing it to a Heimdall sight + spidey sense kind of thingy-
Also I'm nerfing most powers too bc in Greek Mythology Nyx is more powerful than Zeus-
I'm keeping the "Zeus fears Nyx" part though-
She calls Miles, Peter, and Harry her best guy friends, and she calls Anya and Gwen her best girl friends.
She's still new to Earth + she isn't used to the atmosphere so for the first few months [maybe even the first year] being on Earth she gets sick often
She already knew about Peter being Spiderman before he told her. Living with Tony Stark has it's perks
Coffee Coffee Coffee Coffee Coffee Coffee C-
Norman Osborn gives her bad vibes and she doesn't shut up about it at Tony's place whenever he's brought up
"Everyone here is a t r e e-"
Discovered Tumblr memes once- her humor was never the same again
Tumblr media
She asks Harry and Peter for help a lot because she trusts them the most with stuff-
Plans to visit Athens one day
Aunt May became a new mother/aunt figure at some point-
And Tony Stark a new father figure
And that's all I'm willing to share rn-
Also also also-
Drawing that picture and trying to sorta copy the shows style was pain-
33 hours and 42 minutes on IbispaintX [breaks and lack of motivation/burn out time not included]. AGSNDNFJFNFJ-
Pain-
But also fun-
But p a i n-
Anyways I hope yall are good with this- agsjdnfh-
I'm gonna try and post more later so things are less confusing for her character. If I remember to, that is- and if I don't procrastinate/get burned out/lose motivation-
Anyways I hope yall are having a good day/night- uvu
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10 Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14 Part 15 Part 16 Part 17 Part 18
Zed waited for Vee next to the window overlooking the vast green ocean of vegetation. The sliver of sun painted the sky aflush, rolling west in shades of violet. Pinprick stars perforated the melting spectrum, and the phantom moon showed its impatient face fully before the horizon swallowed all light. It was a soothing array of scenery, and Zed rested her head on the glass until footsteps drew her attention to the door. She smiled as Vee came in carrying a plate of zucchini fritters and mashed chickpeas, returning the warm greeting silently.
"Hungry? Axel wasn't a fan. He wants a cheeseburger from McDonald's," said Vee, handing the platter to Zed.
She accepted the dish with a nod. "Did you tell him why that's not possible?"
Vee sighed. The dark beneath his eyes seemed permanent now. "I didn't get into detail. He wouldn't understand."
"Shouldn't we make him understand?"
"It's too soon. The big lug just woke up. It was a challenge just to get him to lie there. Soon he'll want to leave the lab, and I don't know how he'll fare around his adoring fans."
Zed bit into a greasy fritter and scooped a dollop of the paste with the leftover crescent. "He'll love the ego-boost, I'm sure."
"That's what I'm afraid of. All those people will confuse him. Who knows what that might do to his head. We're in a delicate situation."
"Axel seems to like me. Maybe I can convince him to stay put."
Vee grimaced from the thought of Axel working Zed over with his motoring mouth and crass sense of humour. The scientist had grown accustomed to nights alone with her, cooking together and discussing their future. The night they'd spent alone in the greenhouse rang in his heart; the night he admitted his feelings and begged her to squash them. The thought of her alone with Axel picked a scab he didn't know he had.
"You're worried about something," Zed said.
Vee snapped from his bittersweet reverie and sighed. "Am I ever not worrying?"
"True," Zed snorted. "Now, eat. I can't finish this all myself."
The pair finished the plate before Vee set the dish aside and motioned her to the sofa.
"We need to talk about what we found in Glott's notes. I know we can't test this theory, but we should treat it as the truth," said Vee.
"Okay, well, if that's how we're approaching this D negative blood sample... What's the next step? We have no medical supplies. I checked the med tent in the courtyard for the third time just for fun."
"Then we have to visit Glott and get some answers. And by we... I mean me."
"Valter—"
"I know you don't want me to leave, but what other option do we have? Every day we waste here is another step backward."
Zed shook her head until a thin braid dislodged from behind her ear and swung in her face. Vee resisted the urge to tuck it back. The girl's face swivelled toward the window, and she pondered and watched the premature stars twinkle across the bruised sky.
"We go together," Zed said firmly. "I won't budge on that."
"And what about Axel?"
"We wait until he's better. We'll need him to navigate the way."
"And if he never recovers?" Vee asked.
"Then we go anyway. All three of us. We get Axel better, and we go together."
Vee inhaled through his nose as Zed screwed her eyes into his. When he nodded, a smile unfurled across her face, shadowed by the last drops of brassy sunlight.
"I hate this plan, but I suppose it's all we have," said Vee.
"Promise we'll all stick together."
"Of course, Lea. I won't leave without you guys. Promise."
"Promise-promise?"
"I double promise with a cherry on top. Stick a needle in my eye and call it macaroni."
Zed stifled laughter beneath her palm. "I think you've been hanging out with Sam too much."
"That, or I'm just tired."
"I'll let you sleep now. You look beat."
Vee twisted his mouth in lopsided agreement. "Yeah, you're right. I'm gonna hit the shower first. Unless you want to?"
"No, you go ahead. I'll stay here a little longer," Zed said as she laid her temple against the cool glass and looked out over the forest floor, now drowning in the twilight.
~*~
In the morning, Zed left the apartment and padded down the hallway in her mismatched slippers. She slowed as she turned the corner and found the brothers talking. Axel's eyebrows were locked in a line, and Vee looked up at her with relief.
"Lea, can you help me explain to Axel why he can't leave the hospital room?"
Axel whipped the covers off his thighs. "This place is fuckin' weird, and I know you're lying to me. That doctor you had in here is a whack-job. Something isn't adding up."
"Stay put," Vee commanded.
Zed rubbed the sleep from her eyes and prepared to take both sides with a long breath. "Axel, your brother is right. You can't leave yet. Just stay a little longer and heal."
"Where the fuck am I, Vee? This isn't like any hospital I've ever been to. And why can't I use the phone to call mom and dad?"
Axel's question erased all the sleep Vee had gotten the night before. His fatigue was contagious. Zed approached the bed and brushed Axel's shoulder. The touch diffused the tension in his upper body and opened him up to a new explanation, one that hadn't come from his kid brother's mouth.
"There are no phones here, Axel. You're right... This place is different. We're missing a lot of things you’d consider normal."
"Look, darlin', I know you're just trying to make me feel better, but none of what you're saying makes any sense. What do you mean there's no phone? There's electricity, isn't there? So why can't I hobble my way to a pay phone or borrow someone's cell?"
Vee and Zed exchanged pained looks. The younger brother kneaded his brow and offered Axel the same explanation he had before, reworded. Axel refused to believe a word and scrambled off the gurney, throwing Vee's hands off him as he limped a few steps and realized his mistake.
"What the fuck is wrong with my foot? Did someone sliced my ankle in half? What is happening to me? I feel like I'm on an acid trip that never ends. I go to sleep and see crazy shit, only to wake up in an even crazier place where there're no phones and no fucking food! You're talking in goddamn riddles, Vee. The least you can do is get me a Baconator for my trouble! I can't walk—I can't even jerk off 'cause my good hand is fucked. You gotta help me out."
"How many times do I have to tell you, Axe? There are no restaurants!"
"Bullshit! Sweetheart, come on, you can help me, right? Can you please just grab me something greasy? I'll pay you back, I promise. I'm good for it."
"I wish I could help you, Axel, but Vee's right. There's nowhere to get stuff like that anymore."
"Anymore? What does that even mean? You guys are talking like I slept through the apocalypse or something!"
Zed turned to Vee, who blocked the way to the courtyard. "Come on, Axe. Just settle down, and get back into bed."
"Are you gonna find me some painkillers then?" Axel faltered toward the bed and hoisted himself onto the flat mattress with his right arm.
"I'll see what I can do, buddy, but will you promise to stay here for a little longer?"
"Whatever," Axel scoffed. "What else am I gonna do?"
Zed waited until Axel slid back under the covers and tilted his face away from them both to assess Vee's mood. She suspected Axel's recovery would be difficult. Still, when she pictured him with his eyes open again, she heard laughter and saw game nights, shared wine and inside jokes knitting them closer together—not disarray and a friend who'd forgotten her. And if Vee had left the day he championed himself, Axel wouldn't have any flagship of his past. The scientist's presence tranquillized her despite Axel's rotten mood fouling the atmosphere.
"You're hungry, Axel?" Zed asked.
"Starving."
"I'll try to track down something tasty to eat. It won't be a greasy burger, but maybe I can find you something close to fries. I'll make it myself if I have to."
Axel flipped his eyes to the girl standing with her arms knotted behind her back and smiled. "Oh, darlin'...You're a sweet thing. I'd hate to ask, so I'll just accept the offer. Or maybe Vee can go, and you and I can chat a little more?"
Zed chuckled at the man's slyness. "I have some other things to do. We’ll talk when I get back."
"Don't rush for me, honey, but if you do, I'll take it as a good sign," Axel said with a wink.
At the cost of one of her knit blankets, Zed found someone in Athena to chop and bake a sweet potato in peanut oil. She bartered for garlic and salt to sprinkle on the dish. The redheaded child spotted her making transactions and stopped her at the mouth of the Hives with a cloth of fermented cashew cheese and a large chunk of bread that sat out overnight but was still soft. She offered the foodstuffs to Axel on a thin wood slab, and he accepted with an obsequious grin. He relinquished his dissatisfaction and warmed next to Zed.
"Aw, darlin', look at you go. How can I thank you for your trouble?" Axel asked as he chomped a crispy strand of sweet potato.
Zed stepped back from his bed, blushing. "It's okay, Axel. You don't have to do anything but get better."
"Will you stay with me for a while? If I have to stay in bed, it'd really make my life easier if I have someone to talk to. That is if you don't mind my chattiness."
"Sure. Let me grab a chair from the apartment," said Zed.
Axel finished his meal quickly, and as if he hadn't eaten at all, felt the pang of hunger moments after the last bite of bread. His appetite woke up ravenous, and no amount of homegrown food could satiate the growl.
"I might need to eat again in an hour," Axel informed as Zed dragged the chair across the floor. “I’m a big boy, you know.”
"That's fine. I'll find you something in a little while ."
The injured man nodded and sighed, eyelashes fluttering over tired green eyes. A bloated silence proceeded, and Zed wondered how to initiate a conversation. Vee told her not to confuse Axel with present-day news, but all she wanted to do was ask about Richard Glott's underground bunker and with who he'd crossed paths that left him slashed and maimed.
After a couple of deep breaths, Axel murmured, "I see you in my dreams every time I fall asleep. Is that strange?"
Zed hid her shy smile behind her palm. "Oh, stop."
Axel shimmied his torso higher on the bed and frowned in pain. "No, seriously. Not trying to be slick, honey. I see the most fucked up things when I sleep. You know the kind of dreams so vivid, you wake up and your heart’s pounding, thinking it's all real for a minute? Then you're like... No way."
Zed shifted closer to Axel's bed. "What do you dream about?"
Axel smiled to himself. "You, mostly... Us. You and me doing crazy shit together. Sometimes I'm in the desert, and I see this airplane in the distance. It's on the ground, and I ride toward it, you know, you're not gonna ignore a crashed plane, right? Then I find you there, but these guys are hurting you, and you're going nuts trying to shake 'em, but there's too many, so I shoot 'em all, and they melt like popsicles. You stab one good, though."
"What else?" Zed asked.
"I dunno... Sometimes it's just me and you cruising through the desert, and I get the feeling you hate me, but I kinda like it. I'm happy you're there, even though we're in the middle of nowhere, and I have no idea what's gonna happen next."
"Sounds like some pretty weird dreams."
"They're so lucid. It's like a movie, and I'm the main character, and you're... Well, you. Like my cool sidekick."
"Sidekick, huh?" Zed scoffed.
"Yeah, you have this air about you that's like not to be fucked with. Then things always get real dark. I don't even want to tell you about it 'cause you'll think I'm fucked in the head."
Zed knew this part of the story and lowered her eyes to the floor. "It's okay. You can tell me if you want. It's just dreams, right?"
"Nah, I'll just leave it at that. It's not sex stuff or anything if you're wondering."
"Your dreams are more entertaining than anything I have going on today."
With Zed's green light, Axel inhaled deeply before launching into the story of their past. Before he uttered another syllable, a severed connection sparked in his head. His eyes grew large, and he looked around the makeshift hospital room, awestruck.
"In my dreams, we're trying to get to Vee. He needs us for some reason."
"What does he need?"
"Some science shit, which makes total sense because he's a scientist. He's actually a scientist, and not just in my dreams."
"Axel... These dreams you've had... Do you think they have significance?" Zed asked carefully.
"Totally. They have to. Right? Or am I fucking crazy?"
"You're not crazy, Axel. I promise."
"But what if I am? This place... I get such a bad feeling when I'm awake in this room by myself. Vee won't tell me where we are. It's like he's hiding something, and he never lies to me about anything. We don't do that."
"Vee just wants you to get better. He's under a lot of stress, and your recovery is a big part of that. We didn't think—he didn't think you'd make it through. Another complication is the last thing you guys need."
Axel went quiet again and fixated on the dust motes and bolts of lightning crackling up his leg. A storm grew behind his eyes, the same torrents Zed saw when she tried to stop him from leaving Kinderfeld and her behind. Sickened by the thought of Axel sneaking off, she touched his arm and offered a warm smile.
"Talk to me, Axel. Please. Don't keep anything inside."
Axel glanced at her small hand on his tattooed bicep and the lightning in his body faded.
"We were friends in a past life," Axel claimed.
"We're friends in this life."
"Can I tell you one other thing, then I promise I'll stop talking about my bonkers dreams?"
"Yes. I don't mind at all."
Axel curled his bicep and touched Zed's fingers, feeling the motion out until she grasped his hand.
"I think I have to take you somewhere."
"Oh, yeah?" Zed giggled. "And where's that?"
Axel blushed for the first time and brought her hand to hold next to him on the bed. "Not like on a date or anything. I just get this feeling that I'm supposed to protect you, even though you seem capable of looking after yourself just fine. This dream voice keeps reminding me to stay with you and Vee... Like I'm not allowed to let either of you out of my sight. Especially not you."
"Then don't," Zed said.
He squeezed her fingers gently. "I won't."
~*~
Word of Axel's consciousness seeped out of the lab and into the village. Nobody knew who had made the discovery—Vee blamed Samson while Zed suspected Nalani, who'd waltzed by the lab doors at a suspiciously slow pace several times each day—and leaked the information. They barred visitors and only allowed the doctor in to help change Axel's bandages until Ivar arrived.
Axel was alone, humming a tune from his teenage years when the king came through the doors and stopped to stare at his bed-ridden friend.
"Zee, you're awake? And no one thought to tell me?"
"Sorry, hombre, but I think you have the wrong room. Name's Axel."
Ivar flashed all his sharp teeth in a sly smile and wagged his finger. "Always a joker."
"No, really," Axel chuckled, then went deadpan. "Wait... Who are you?"
Before Ivar spoke, Vee walked into the lab and froze when he saw Ivar standing a few feet from Axel's bed.
"Ivar. I wasn't expecting you."
The king sneered and motioned toward Axel. "What's with this guy?"
"Hey, maybe we can talk for a second?" Vee invited Ivar down the hall, out of earshot.
Ivar glared at the scientist. "When exactly were you planning on telling me he woke up?"
"That's the thing, Ivar. You don't understand... Axel's suffering from amnesia. It's common for coma patients to lose parts of their memory. Right now, he's in a very touchy state. He has no idea where he is, who you are, or what any of this is. I've tried to keep people away from him to avoid confusion, but now everybody knows. It's not good for him. Subjecting him to all this new information can cause anxiety, panic... Who knows. We're trying to ease him back into life."
"What do you mean he doesn't know who I am? I'm his best friend."
"Trust me. Axel doesn't even remember serving in the army."
"That's crazy. We should tell him—"
"No. It's too big of a shock. Axel's already gone through hell. Imagine trying to explain our world to somebody who has virtually no idea what's happened in the last couple of years."
Ivar pondered and didn't respond to Vee's relief, then sighed as though he accepted the explanation.
"So what does this mean for you? I assume you're retracting your claim and staying in Kinderfeld?"
Vee twisted his mouth to the side. "How can I go now?"
"You volunteered."
"That was before Axel came home. He needs me. I'm the only person he recognizes. Give me some more time with him, get him back on his feet and see if he'll start remembering, then I'll go."
Ivar crossed his arms across his burly chest. "Who knows how long that might take?"
"Would you leave someone you loved in that state?"
"I'd do what's for the greater good."
"He's your best friend. He's my brother. Axel needs us right now, Ivar. Think of all he's done for us. We owe it to take care of him until he's fit to at least walk again. I need him to remember what happened so I can get a better idea of what's going on outside."
"I suppose you're right," Ivar conceded. "You can't go out blind by yourself."
"Yes, you're right," Vee said with great relief.
"So what now? I can't talk to him?"
"You can speak to him if you like, but try not to bring up things that might confuse him. Don't talk about the army or mention recent times."
Ivar looked over his shoulder at the apartment's open door and heard the muted humming of a girl filtering through the corridor.
"And how's Lea taking all of this?"
Vee stiffened. "She's helping out."
"Axel has no idea who she is? He really doesn't know what's happened?"
"Not that I can tell. He keeps asking for cheeseburgers and to call our parents."
"Wow," Ivar whispered.
"Yeah, it's hard."
Ivar went quiet, distant, and shook his head slowly before inhaling through his nose and squeezing Vee's shoulder. "I trust you, brother. Maybe we'll talk more about your expedition in a few days when things have a chance to settle with Axel."
"You got it."
Axel pretended he wasn't trying to listen to the conversation between his brother and the brown-haired man with the striking blue eyes when the pair returned. Ivar nodded at Axel, his eyes awash with sympathy for the indisposed man.
"How are you feeling, Axel?"
"A little on the shitty side, my man. Not gonna lie. Hands busted, foot's bum... Can't fuck my way to a decent meal in this place, and everyone's tiptoeing around like I'm a sleeping baby. Gotta say I've had better days."
"Well, I hope you heal up quick. There are a lot of people who want to see you."
A coy smirk unfurled over Axel's face. "Yeah, I kinda get that impression. Sometimes, I see people looking in through those doors. I feel like a panda at a zoo. Everyone wants a peek at little ol’ Axel, huh?"
"Is there anything I can get you?"
"Cheeseburger?" Axel asked hopefully.
"Would if I could, friend."
"Goddamn it," Axel lamented.
Vee widened his eyes when Ivar looked at him, confirming what they'd discussed in the hallway.
"Say, how do you stay so beefy if there's no meat in this place?" Axel asked Ivar.
"I get my protein where I can. Try to stay fit. I'll get someone to bring you something good to eat."
Axel snorted. "Yeah, that's what that sweet-lookin' one said, but everything tastes like tree bark. No offence to her. She tried her best, and I'd never insult a lady's cooking to her face."
Ivar sucked in his bottom lip and nodded. "Well, I'll see what I can do for you, Axel. Get better soon."
Vee held his breath until Ivar left the lab and shrunk once the doors closed.
"You sure have a way with words, don't you?"
"Everyone who walks in here acts like they know me."
"We might have to move you to the apartment. Put a cap on your visitors."
"Who was that?" Axel asked.
"That's Ivar Lothbrok. He kinda runs things, in a sense."
"Nice guy."
Vee scoffed. "Yeah. Nice."
An itch stuck in the back of Axel's head, and he grew quiet once again, trying to unravel the mystery he'd woken up inside. He was a figure in a snow globe, a permanent fixture in a landscape rife with faces he'd seen in dreams. Sitting up in his bed, Axel wondered what laid beyond the confines of his glasshouse. Never one to follow the rules, even under the firm guidance of his smart younger brother, Axel decided once everyone fell asleep, he'd find himself a walking post and go exploring.
~*~
Zed woke to the sound of Vee's soft snoring coming through the open door of his bedroom. The possibility of sleep retracted with every second she spent staring at the smooth, globular ceiling in the dark, trying to make shapes out of the dream residue behind her eyelids. The sofa stiffened her back, and she twisted her spine until air bubbles popped and her muscles strained from the motion. She pulled the blanket up to her chin and squeezed her eyes shut for a few minutes, but Axel's stories followed her from sleep, brushing up on her with sharp quills. Since Axel painted his dream world, she hadn't stopped thinking of him and mourning the loss of his memory for the both of them. Axel didn't know his missing pieces were dancing under his eyes each time he slumbered, and she longed to stitch them together to create the full picture.
She squinted into the darkness, fatigue long since faded, and left the apartment. Light on her bare feet, Zed padded down the hallway and turned the corner to find an empty bed. Her heart twinged from Axel's absence. She considered going back to the apartment to tell Vee his brother was missing but found herself propelled to seek Axel out herself. There was nowhere in the lab a man of Axel's stature could hide, so she went out to the courtyard to begin her search. The floodlights cast pyramids of light over the foothills but revealed nothing but stone paths and glittering grass ranks. She started left first, then changed her mind and shot right toward the warehouse. Zed minded her steps as she picked up a jog, extending her legs to clear the roiling yards until she reached the square entrance of the warehouse. A guard leaned against the steel wall next to the exit, blinking and wiping a hand over his face to rouse himself. He saw Zed across the cement expanse and stood up straight.
"What're you doing out here?" The guard's voice clattered through the chamber.
"Sorry," Zed said, casting a thorough glance around before retreating into the light and shadow of the courtyard again. She rushed to the Hives, taking quick strides to reach her abandoned apartment before anyone else noticed her. After a quick knock, Zed opened the door to find her former living quarters as deserted as ever. Nobody had claimed the space in her absence, nor was Axel's adjoining apartment occupied. Both rooms were empty.
Zed's search for Axel continued and grew in urgency with each lonely cove and space she found. As she made her way around the central dome where the courtyard bordered the largest hill, she stopped at the mouth of the Chrysalis and addressed the men standing guard.
"Have either of you seen someone limping through here?"
"Nobody's come 'round here, Zed. Who're you looking for?"
Zed cocked her head. "Who do you think?"
"You mean Zee?" The man on the right asked. "Thought he was paralyzed."
"So it's true? He's awake?"
"Please don't tell anyone. Not yet."
The bearded guard rose a dark eyebrow at Zed. He was one of Ivar's highest-ranking patrol. Zed recognized him from the night they'd brought in the Zeronaut captain, Monk. He often stood by wherever Ivar went and didn't talk much unless addressed. "Ivar know about this?"
"I don't know what Ivar knows. Vee communicates with him, but we're trying to keep this from the general public."
"What do you think, Fen? Should we tell Ivar?" The scrawny, clean-shaven guard asked.
Fen sneered and told his partner to close his mouth before angling his torso toward Zed. "We'll keep an eye out, petite fleur."
Zed nodded and continued on her way, but there were few more spots Axel could hide unless someone had intercepted him and invited him into their hovel. She thought of Nalani, who often wandered the courtyard at odd hours and Trinity, who adored Axel and might jump at the opportunity to lead him to a private alcove. The two of them shared living space in Athena. Zed wanted to keep the search party light, and asking around would only spread curiosity like wildfire.
She continued touring the courtyard, her naked soles sore from hurried walking. Finally, she stopped at the greenhouse gate, its series of coiling iron bars and metal flowers welded to the columns in intricate clusters. Zed lifted the latch and pushed the gate open, taking care to shut it quietly. The greenhouse where the citizens grew aloe and berries was the little-known getaway spot Axel and Vee coveted as their private paradise. Zed zigzagged through the raised beds, taking care not to trip over the irrigation hoses and climbed the wooden steps at the back of the third square house. Around another corner and through the thick blackberry bushes nestled in rectangles of sodden earth, Zed rushed to the spot under the sky where the light poured in but found nothing.
"Shit," she whispered, out of breath and reeling in the thick, tepid air.
Zed looked up to the cloudless velveteen sky, crushing disappointment wringing her heart. In a throng of shadow off to the right, a figure shifted and startled the woman backward.
A tired voice called her name.
The shady form lengthened, struggling to stand. Once it stood at its full height, the vice pressing Zed's chest disappeared. Axel hobbled into view, using the overhead pipes to help himself along.
"Axel! There you are. Oh my God, you had me so worried. Why did you leave the lab?"
"The lab? Is that where you've been keeping me?"
Zed clapped her palm over her mouth. Axel gave an elongated nod, eyes wide and accusatory.
"Is that what I am? Some kind of experiment?"
"No, Axel—"
"What are you and Vee doing? Tell me why he's keeping me locked up. Tell me where the fuck I am, Lea. Please. This place... Something about it seems wrong. It scares me."
Axel wilted against a plant bed as Zed approached and caught his elbow to keep him upright.
"Axel, don't be scared. Please, I promise you're safe. We're not trying to keep you captive. This is all difficult to explain, and you were asleep for so long parts of your memory are missing. Vee's only trying to make it easier for you to cope."
"Cope with what, Lea? Cope with the fact I'm a prisoner? That I can't sleep because my nightmares are so vivid, I feel like I'm dying? That people watch me like some sideshow freak?"
"Everything," Zed sighed. "The new world. How can we explain all this to someone who woke up in the past?"
Axel looked up through the skylights and whimpered. "Something terrible has happened, hasn't it?"
Zed, wounded from the dejection in her friend's voice, led Axel to sit on the floor, then sat next to him and draped her arms over his shoulders, resting her cheek on the thin cotton shoulder strap of his tank top.
"I wish I could say you're wrong, but I can't lie to you, Axe."
"My instincts were right. Something is very wrong. After that Ivar fella came through, I started getting this feeling you all weren't telling me something on purpose."
"Don't be angry with us, Axel. We didn't know how to tell you."
Axel leaned his head on Zed's and sought her hand to hold. She slid her fingers through his and gripped tightly. "It's okay. I get it now. I'm supposed to be here. You and me... We're meant to be together. Otherwise... Why would I see you every time I close my eyes?"
"Axel," Zed whispered. "I missed you so much when you left. I thought I'd never see you again. Now everything is different."
"I'm sorry. If I hurt you back then... I didn't mean it."
"Just don't leave me again. Please. I can't fool myself into happiness without you in my life."
"I won't leave. I can't."
"Promise?"
"I promise, Lea."
"Promise-promise?"
Axel chuckled and kissed the top of Zed's head before laying his cheek on the ruts of her braids. "Yeah. I promise-promise."
~*~
Axel and Zed laid on the floorboards and watched the stars twinkling above while the chamber filled with water vapour, obscuring the glass until the condensation evaporated. When the infinite black sky lightened to meteorite violet, Axel used Zed as a crutch to stand up. He stole a fistful of blackberries, stuffing the fruits in his mouth and mashing them until inky juice seeped from the corners of his lips. He complained about his ankle, which he'd suffered walking on during his solo excursion to the greenhouses. Zed berated him for wandering off and helped him down the steps and through the rows of potato plants, arms locked, their pace slow to accommodate Axel's injury.
A murmur greeted the pair as they approached the iron gate. A dozen villagers gathered around the entrance to witness Axel emerge with smiles on their faces. Frozen from the elated faces beaming at him, Axel pulled on Zed's arm, alerting her to the hoard of onlookers.
"Who are they?" Axel asked.
"Zee! Happy you're awake!"
"What happened to your arm, Zee? Are you okay?"
"He looks terrible."
Zed opened the gate, and the crowd dented but didn't part. "Make room, please!"
"We want to talk to Zee!"
Axel then realized the group addressed him, their wide eyes drinking in his bruised and broken state with smiles unfitting his poor condition. An overwhelming sense of worry touched his skin, and he grabbed for Zed to lead him, but they huddled around the gate until a tall head of blond hair sliced the crowd in half. Vee shouldered past, his eyes hooded and brow furrowed.
"Axel! Lea! What the hell are you doing out here? Lea, did you let him out?"
Zed frowned and drew her shoulders up. "Of course not! I'm the one who came looking for him."
"Let's go. Come on, now. Everyone make way. Go back home!" Vee barked.
"We want answers! What's happening outside the walls?"
"We'll answer your questions later," Vee said disdainfully. "Lea, help me get him back."
The trio staggered to the lab, breathless from the trek over the bowing foothills. Vee waited until they were behind closed doors to deliver a speech about how irresponsible and defiant Axel was, how his behaviour might cause unwanted ripples where the scientist required placidity. Axel hoisted himself into bed and accepted his lecture, sullen and quiet, occasionally glancing at Zed, who also wrung her wrists.
"I told you not to leave the room, Axe. Why? Why can't you listen to me for once in your goddamn life?" Vee asked.
"You're not my mommy, Valter. I can do what I want, and frankly, I don't appreciate you keeping secrets from me!"
"What are you on about?"
"Oh, don't play dumb. You've lied to me this whole time! About where we are, what's happened to me. I think you know much more than you lead on."
Vee scoffed and looked to Zed for reassurance. The girl stood still with her shoulders hunched.
"Lea, help me out here."
"Well, Vee... Maybe it's time we tell him everything. There's no use hiding the truth anymore. He already knows something's wrong."
"Yeah!" Axel cried. "I'm done sitting around twiddling my thumbs. You have to tell me what's up. How did I get like this? What the fuck happened to me, and why can't I remember anything? I don't know how I got here or who all those people are out there."
"That's the thing, Axe... We don't know what happened to you. You left, and when you came back, you were unconscious and hurt. We don't leave this place, so I can't tell you anything more than that. I didn't know if you'd wake up and certainly didn't know you'd have amnesia when you did."
Axel turned to Zed for verification, and she nodded her head regretfully.
"It's true, Axel. I wish we could tell you more."
"Then at least tell me where I am. Start there," Axel demanded.
Vee and Zed stood speechless for a moment until she sighed deeply. "Vee, maybe we should give him the postcards and his journals."
"What are you talking about?"
"You're right, Lea. Go get the box. Tonight's gonna be a long one."
Zed hauled the box of postcards and dog-eared journals into the lab and hefted it onto the foot of Axel's bed. Vee unpinned the postcards from the corkboard and offered them to Axel with a pinched smile. Zed sat in her chair while Vee laid on the floor, a long arm slung over his eyes as Axel began to read aloud from his workbooks. The three of them listened to the stories Axel had penned years before while he was in the infantry as if none of them had heard the tales. From time to time, Axel stopped narrating and glided over the lines, taking in details he should have known, but couldn't place. During these silences, Zed and Vee would look up at him to assess his emotions, whether or not the words shifted the pieces into place or made any difference at all.
Axel took in a strained breath. "Ivar and I aren't talking. He wants to be the leader on this ship, and if things don't go his way, he turns into a giant douche-nozzle," he broke into giggling at his insult. "I haven't eaten in three days, and the water supply is low. We're down to a cup a day each. It's not enough, but it's gotten us through so far. One of the guys got sick, and they've taken him below deck. He throws up constantly even though there's nothing in his gut and howls all night in agony. I swear to God I'll shoot him in the head tomorrow if he doesn't let us sleep tonight. Someone needs to put him out of his misery."
Zed grimaced, and Vee stared at the ceiling with dry eyes, unflinching from the story.
"Day six... I now know what rat meat tastes like."
"Oh, god. Ew," Zed mumbled.
Axel continued without pause. "It's not that bad when you haven't eaten in almost a week. I've set up more traps in the galley to catch the rest. If Ivar plays his cards right, I might share my rats with him, but he's still a stuck-up twat.
I'm not sure how the rats are surviving. Maybe there's food still hidden somewhere on the ship. Maybe they're eating each other."
"This must have been when you were on your way back to America...Or... Whatever you want to call this half of the world now," Vee said.
"What do you mean?" Asked Axel.
"The Unity... The government... They abolished the borders, erased the country names and burned the history books. The states became part of the North-Western Hemisphere. Same with Canada and all that. No countries. No names."
Axel seemed to accept his brother's explanation that nothing would ever be as before. The commune in which he now resided was the only tangible place left in existence. Outside the walls lay sites changed from war, stripped of home and heritage. A tightness in Axel's neck prevented him from speaking until the revelations grew too heavy for him to bear.
"What happened to everyone else?" Axel asked.
"It's hard to say," Vee whispered, then cleared his throat. "A lot of people died."
"How many?"
"Billions," Zed said.
"You mean... We're the only ones left?"
"No, we're not. There are other survivors out there, people who were meant to live through the storms."
"Storms?"
Vee sighed, the farfetched nature of their fates exhausting him before he began. "The Unity developed a way to return the planet back to its natural state. No more electronic communication, no more broadcasts or satellites or TV. After the extinctions reached an all-time high, they introduced these plants that could suck the pollution from the air quickly. They grow extremely fast and are lethal to anyone who wasn't vaccinated against the spores. One plant can release a spore cloud big enough to cover half a football field, and they breed and multiply like vermin. Even a small cluster can kill a stadium of unimmunized people in a few minutes."
"But why would they do this? Have I been vaccinated?"
Axel's questions ripped holes in Vee’s composure. Zed's stomach churned and flipped as the scientist fished for the least aggressive explanation. A gloss came over his eyes, and he avoided his brother's bewildered stare.
"No, Axe. You're not."
"Oh... Are you?" Axel whispered.
"Yeah, I am. So is Lea."
"Why? Why didn't I get vaccinated?"
"You were lost at sea with your platoon for weeks, and before that, you were overseas. They didn't immunize the troops."
"Are you telling me the government wants us all to die?"
"Most of this is widely debated. There are some theories that the Unity had a strategy in mind."
Zed lent the scientist a hand and cut the heavy topic with a smile. "Axel, you're much more special than you know. Those people out there all adore you because of what you've done for Kinderfeld. You were the only one brave enough to go out when they needed supplies. People know your name not only here but out in the world. I've seen you fight and shoot. You're a natural."
"Well, yeah. I've been shooting guns since I was a kid."
"You were a special ops sniper. More than just a good shot."
Axel warmed to the compliment. "And what about you? Are you the mercenary of my dreams?"
Zed blushed and failed to hide her pride. "Not a mercenary... But I've murked a few Scavs in my day."
"Man... I like you," Axel tittered. "Ain't she great, Vee? What a prize."
For the few seconds of silence that passed, Vee's expression darkened. He recognized the reverence pulling Axel's features, the heartfelt way Lea relaxed when they spoke. Even in the absence of memory, Axel and Zed forged a bond too strong to pry apart. He would never wish ill upon his brother, but he mourned the days past with the woman whose eyes shone like vats of golden syrup passing under the morning light. At the risk of sharing a likeness with Ivar, the king who could never quite capture the woman's love, Vee thought of what life might have been like had Axel never returned. Would Zed love him? Could she? Had he ever toed the waters of her unspoken affection? Vee cursed his stupidity the night he told her how he felt and quickly dismantled his chances before she had the opportunity to consider him more than a close friend.
As Zed stared at Axel upright in his bed with his journals splayed out around him, Vee knew it was too late to rescind his platonic claim. A victim of his own sabotage, the scientist turned from them and pushed out every last ounce of breath to make room for another stale intake.
"I think it's time I showed Axel the Crimson Yawn."
Zed nodded and left the brothers, sensing a gloomy air rising between them. Vee was much better at explaining the inexplicable. He delivered news with a needed bluntness, one Zed had never mastered. Once she left the lab searching for distractions, Vee helped his brother box up the journals and offered his elbow to guide Axel back on his feet. Amid the bleak news, Axel had almost forgotten the pain in his extremities.
They waddled to the locked chambers where the bulk of Vee's scientific discoveries came to light. Axel squinted against the bright white walls and polished floor as he followed his brother through a series of doors leading to a clear dome similar to the greenhouses he'd found, only this hollow contained a twisted swarm of redheaded plants, mouths bloody and agape. Each one stood over seven feet tall and lifted its black-spotted maw to the sky in a silent scream. Axel turned from them.
"I've seen these before, but never this many. In my dreams, there's always one growing in a container."
"You recognize them?"
"And you say these things can kill me? How is it possible?" Axel asked.
"They're a sophisticated hybrid plant. They release spores like mushrooms, and those spores become airborne. If you breathe them in, they attack your blood, soaking up the nutrients and essentially turning it into a highly acidic jelly. You burn from the inside out. Well...Dissolve is a better word."
"And you've brought me here why!?" Axel shouted, dodging backward and planting too much weight on his bad ankle.
"Don't worry! They can't hurt you from in here. The filtration system's design protects everything inside."
"I still have a hard time believing all this. You know how crazy it sounds, right?"
Vee clapped his brother on the shoulder. "Oh, I realize. Why do you think it took me so long to break the news? You try finding a delicate way to explain this to someone who just came out of a coma."
Axel became transfixed on the plants again after Vee's assurance. He shuffled to the glass and studied the roaring heads, each one slightly different than its neighbour. They resembled demons, bizarre red monsters with thick necks and broad leaves of wax. Their spiked roots toiled in the ground, gnarled and tangled in a hellish orgy above and beneath the soil. Beyond the ranks, Axel saw the roiling jungle and all its hues of green and black. The sun broke through parts in the towering trees. How he longed to feel the wind on his burnt skin and walk among the flora. Axel observed the plants for a few minutes as Vee stepped back and allowed him time to digest.
"Am I in a nightmare?" Axel met his brother's eyes and did not blink.
"Some might say that. And I'm sorry. I've dedicated my life to making things better for the survivors, but there's nothing left I can do. All we have now is the village and each other."
"And mom and dad?"
"They're gone, Axe. They've been gone a while."
The tattooed man swallowed bitterly and nodded as a wall of tears blinded him. Vee touched his brother's shoulder and shared his pain through the comforting gesture. Axel crossed his chest with his good hand and patted Vee's fingers.
"Do you mind if I spend some time alone? This is... It's just a lot."
"Of course. Take all the time you need, Axe. I'll leave the doors unlocked. You good to walk?"
Axel's voice floated below a whisper. "I’ll manage."
~*~
In the apartment, Zed held her arms out before her and swung them in half-circles, stretching her muscles in preparation for another stiff night spent on the sofa. Vee came in after dinner and found Zed flinging her limbs outward.
"Nightly aerobics?" He asked with a touch of humour, the most he could muster after a day of harsh truths.
"Just stretching out before bed. My back's been killing me."
"Oh," Vee's green eyes popped open wide. "Don't sleep on the couch, Lea. You can take the bed tonight."
"Nah, it's okay."
"No, really. I insist. You deserve a night without hanging off the edge of the cushions."
"Then where will you sleep?" She asked.
"The couch."
Zed laughed at the idea. "You're far too tall to fit comfortably."
"I've passed out there dozens of times. Don't worry about me, really. Take the bed."
"Why're you being so nice, huh?" Zed snorted.
"I've seen you in pain the last few days, and I feel bad. It's rude of me to have one of the biggest beds in this place when I don't do anything to deserve it."
"Oh, shush," Zed jested. "You've done more for this place than anyone."
"There's always the Chrysalis."
The good humour in the room vanished with Vee's maladroit suggestion. Zed shook her head and scoffed. "I'm not going to the Chrysalis. I want to stay here with you guys."
"Fine by me. You'll take the bed tonight then. Grab your blankets and go."
Zed and Vee swapped bedding and wished each other goodnight. Though she deemed herself undeserving of the luxury, when Zed crawled onto Vee's large bed and spread her limbs from corner to corner, her skin bristled with goosebumps. The scent of the sheets belonged to the man outside the room, sprawled on the sofa, long legs dangling over the arm—cotton and boyish musk, the redolence Zed had grown accustomed to except in this moment. Lying on the mattress reminded her of the hugs and closeness she'd received from Vee when Axel had fled.
She relived their days together in clips of happy memories and some not so joyful. Across the apartment, Vee recalled the same night playing in Zed's mind—their evening in the greenhouse when they'd held hands, so close together yet barred by the promises of friendship. Vee cursed himself repeatedly while Zed entertained the idea of getting together with the scientist.
Soon, Zed's thoughts slid over the night she'd spent with Ivar. If she concentrated, she could feel the fullness between her legs still. Ivar had made love to her the way couples did in films. He'd stroked her and kissed her skin, took her nipples gently between his lips and sucked until she giggled. What might have excited some left her shivering. Was one of the brothers more deserving of her love? Was she foolish to think herself so desirable her attention was a coveted badge of excellence?
What a prize!
Lea... I want you to tell me no, right now.
It's like you were made for me.
With her heart racing, Zed turned over in bed and clamped her eyes shut. Debating which of the three men in her life she wanted more made her stomach flip, yet she couldn't keep the lewd considerations from pouring into her head. In these fantasies, she replaced Ivar with Vee. Yes, he was smart and gentle and keen on her, but he'd told her not to let him cross the line, claimed he didn't want her that way despite his feelings. Vee's kind face took the place of Ivar's, coasting down her stomach, stamping her thighs with kisses from luscious lips. She squeezed her legs together and let the inevitable shift knock Vee from the picture to make room for his older brother.
The tattooed man with all his addictions and his looming depression positioned himself between her knees and grasped her ankles delicately. A murderer and womanizer leaned over her body, caging her with long limbs decorated with sparrows, weapons, chains and barbed wire.
We're meant to be together. I see you in my dreams every time I fall asleep.
Zed bit her lip when the phantom sensation invaded her. She knew not how Axel would moan or if he'd coo and sigh the way Ivar had when they had sex. She wanted very much to think Axel would treat her with respect and scorned the claims Trinity had made about his wild side. Then the obscene journal entries came to life, glowing, fanned by salacious visions. What if she didn't want to make love? What if she wanted to be taken hard and fast by a man who worshiped her? Guilt and arousal mixed in her chest and sat heavy, grinning evilly like a demon poised to possess her body.
Sleep wriggled through Zed's conjurations and pulled her under before she realized she was slipping into blackness. The cozy bed and Vee's sheets lulled her, and soon, she dreamed of ordinary things, forgetting her personal stash of pornographic thoughts. She slipped further as the moon made a lazy arc through the night sky until something touched her shoulder and jarred her from sleep with a sharp gasp.
Her scream ripped through the apartment, sending her waker toppling out of bed.
"Lea? Oh, fuck. Fuck!"
"Axel?"
In the dimness, neither of them saw each other but tasted each other's heavy breath. Soon the light snapped on, and Vee stood at the door, chest heaving.
"What the hell is going on?" Vee asked. "Axel? What're you doing?"
"Christ, I thought Zed was you. I just came to... Well, I couldn't sleep," Axel cringed. "Shit, my hand. Fuck, I landed like a sack of bricks."
Vee snickered, setting off a series of giggles. "You came to sleep in my bed?"
"I didn't mean to scare you, Lea."
"It's all right," said Zed. "Really. On any other night, it would have been Vee in here."
Axel pulled himself up by the elbows and sat on the edge of the bed, grimacing from the agony of his agitated wounds. "Sorry, guys. It's hard to sleep out there. People are watching me."
Zed scooted over and patted the part of the mattress warm from her body. "Come on. Lie down. I think we could all use a sleepover after the day we've had."
"You're not serious," Vee said with a scoff as his brother took up Zed's offer and laid down next to her.
Zed nodded with conviction. "Absolutely. You too, Valter. Turn off the light and get over here."
He rolled his eyes as he flipped the light switch. "This is hardly a three-person bed."
"Well, cuddle up, pal."
"Lea takes up a fraction of the bed, anyway," Axel pointed out.
"Is this not weird to you? Three adults sharing a bed?"
Zed moved to the center as Vee climbed into bed from the left. To her right, Axel had already sprawled and turned over to face her in the dark.
"It's no stranger than how half the people in this place sleep all piled on top of each other. Humans were meant to nest. In the wild, this is how we'd sleep."
"Yeah, but we're not in the wild," said Vee.
"Yes, we are, little brother. Have you seen it outside? We're literally in glass bubbles, in the middle of a rainforest. Now shut up, and go to sleep."
"You shut up."
"Guys?" Zed chimed.
"Yeah?" The brothers answered.
"I love you both.”
Robbed of their voices, Axel and Vee set aside their bickering to bask in the genial haze of Zed's words. Axel shifted an inch closer while Vee laid stiffly on his side, eyes wide in the dark. As though her claim was bathed in wine, they soaked in the meaning and slipped drunkenly into slumber.
