concept art/character design for an acachalla centric horror story i've been brainstorming since last school year ^_^ still havent finalized any of these designs, i feel like they need a little more tweaking...

WARNING: blood, body horror, the mangled corpse of a dead animal, guns, crowbars, medical equipment and general medical imagery, and all around just weird and gross stuff

story and images under the cut:

i imagine the premise is that sue, at the police station, gets a call from the acachallas like in canon. she decides to go to their house to help, alone because her coworkers are all busy/hate her (theyve been in the force long enough to go corrupt while sue still tries to do whats right)

when she goes in she discovers that the acachallas have been dead for like 10 years and their bodies are barely even intact. she also notices that their house is trashed, not only does it seem completely reclaimed by nature, covered in fungus and insects and blood, but a lot of their furniture and appliances are missing. their rooms look like theyre missing all that wouldve signaled the character of whomever inhabited it, and she thinks, well, maybe the house was looted after they died, but that doesn't explain who called...

then she accidentally steps in a pile of fungus. which wasnt there before. she turns around and a man, fully formed, has sprouted out of the ground. he is made almost entirely out of mushrooms and he has 2 shotguns for arms. he tells her to leave his house. she starts to run but then another figure stops her. a very tall woman who speaks in the same voice that called the police department. her form is indiscernible in the dark, but soon sue comes to realize this woman is not human.

she's not even alive.

sue meets the others and, sure enough, they all seem to be amalgamations of various household objects, both inorganic and organic matter, forming crude fascimiles of who they once were. there are 5 bodies and 5 of them, so they must be possessed by the immortal spirits of the acachallas...!

of course, it turns out they never needed help. it was merely a trap to lure sue home.

they accept her and care for her far more than her biological family or "friends" at work ever did. but being with them takes a toll on sue's body. eventually she dies and they build a new body for her. she wakes up as a beautiful monster. she wakes up as herself.

you're going to notice none of these drawings are of sue- that's because she's still just a regular human in this. by the end she might become a horrifying monster like the rest of them, but i havent designed her.

i took inspiration from a variety of sources, but i can only remember some of them off the top of my head:

undertale (lorewise the whole thing about monsters dust being spread on their favorite object so they can live in it, also photoshop flowey designwise was a huge inspiration)

deltarune (largely just the enemy designs)

dont hug me i'm scared (the teacher's designs, general vibes, also lamp's explanation of what happens when someone dies in episode 2 of the tv show)

tipping point (literally just stylistically. i need to learn digital collage to properly portray these designs)

tokusatsu (the costumes for the gorma in gosei sentai dairanger are like. really good. i enjoy their designs severely)

communications era ghost and pals mvs (the collage stuff speaks to my soul)

and thats all i can remember rn. now heres the first pictures i drew of each member of the family (on my world history notes) and the most recent draft of their designs (in mspaint) this is basically all of the drawings of them.

beginning with spencer, he's the smallest of the family at only 4 feet tall. he is made out of his computer and manga collection basically. on each of these i left a lot of notes in the pictures breaking down what each part of the body is made out of. i wanted to incorporate figurines and action figures into his design too but i decided to keep it more focused. but all these designs are still subject to change. a teacher walked by as i was drawing him and said she liked how it was "very industrial but feminine" or something like that.

sally! im not entirely sure what that first sketch is but as you can tell i wanted her to be wearing a doll mask from the start. i gave her this big poofy princess dress to conceal where godzilla connects to the shelves that act as her legs because it looked very strange and did not look like the shelves were her legs. the dress turns into curtains which are draped over her shelves. she was very hard to design but very fun. also i just chose random dolls and stuff i know g3 draculaura and kylie and pnp sasha are like recent dolls that wouldnt exist yet. its a mockup ok

next we got billy who is built out of his own medical supplies. i wanted to make his body one of those IV drip stands, although that means both him and spencer have very similar lower halves, with the wheels. hes the only one who doesnt really wear any clothes because billy doesnt really have an iconic outfit; the only thing i remember he wears is obviously his medic outfit but thats like. a whole outfit. i dont understand the layers of it so i can just put part of it on this thing. maybe i shouldve just given him scrubs. or what i think billy would wear that represents him

gertrude having a dead cat as her hair is a reference to a really specific one-off joke i read about on the wiki but dont actually remember from any of the videos. i think hair is a very important part of self expression so they would want to recreate their hairstyles with whatever they could find. it was hard as hell getting that cat into a shape that made literally any sense but i think i figured it out. her outfit is a combination of what she normally wore and her old costume as the crowbar, which i was inspired to design my version of as well (will post that drawing later). i think its very interesting how gertrude seems to exist to trap and keep safe or detain/kill various dangerous beings. shes like a shepherd but also an executioner.

papa acachalla doesnt have a draft cause this was literally the first time i tried drawing him in this story because i was stuck on trying to imagine what hed be made out of and how he would look like. then i remembered fungus comes in all shapes and forms and also works as a metaphor for his connection with his family and his roots. also his arms are guns LOL! i wanted to make him more catholic but i couldnt come up with how while still having him look like papa acachalla. maybe adding that priest collar cause i think father grigori has it anyways but its hard to draw stuff around his neck area.

Spoilers for Laika Aged Through Blood

Summary:

I have autism so im going to make a master post of all the coming and going themes in Laika

WIP - Feel free to add.

Its literally an post-apocalyptic world. what more do i need to say.

Mentionin, theres a quest that involves human bones? Are all furries humans? Did there used to be our world humans before doom fell? Did the animals mutate? The only non-human intellect i can think of is the whales in the ocean which is a stretch.

Jacobs Cassettes - Hes gone but hes with you the whole game. You add on to what he began. Something he loved. (and Laika makes fun (?) of him for shooting the player to get the thing out but thats the only way she will open them after his death).

Spirits - on the nose here but literally talks to those who have past. She cannot move on (to the after life). People only talk to her about it when they want comfort that their loved ones are okay (She has no idea).

Laika Herself - Starts the game wanting to die. Whole existence is defined by the daughter that she was forced to have. The one she loves more than anything else. She hates the curse. She hates the idea of Puppy taking her place more. The people around her set her worth to her warrior ability. She does anything but train Puppy, which puts her clan in state of disaster. Her reason to live was because the people need her. All she does all day is what other people tell her to do. Her excuse for not finding pochiee (?) was the elder told her to do otherwise. Maya straight up tells her that she shouldn't think and just do what the elder says. Laika speaks out against the elder but still enacts thier will.

In her journal writes about how futile thier resistance is. As the game goes on she does all these fetch quest. She doesn't understand why she bothers but 'its the difference between living and survival'. She says it gives the villagers and her hope. Puppy gets kidnapped due to Laika not prioritizing her grief. (For having death be desensitized) (Puppy being sheilded from death) She drops everything to save her daughter. She sees that even the bird citizens hate thier government and are going on suicide missions (they die either way) for the prospect of peace. She laughs at them because she sees them as they want to appear - The Ultimate Unity - The Living Machine - not as the scared and whipped people they are. She kills all involved in the kidnapping. Puppy gets the fever that killed all her other daughters. Laika comes face to face with the fact she may not be immortal anymore or another loved one will die. (She takes her helmet off at this point idk why) Kills 'god' and immediately told afterwards that Puppy will live (Laika wont) the bomb drops and she jumps down after it. She accepts death somberly so her loved ones will live.

Little Moments

Ray? Rotiers? Boat Man. Lost his family to the birds. The only way he can afford to eat is to work for them. How he thinks of his father when he sees the light house. Laika telling him about the view-

Mini point: The ocean is filled with debris and filth at the coast line but when you can look out to the far horizon the water is clear. Laika sees a whale. (symbol of the beauty of the old world and how they were thought to be gone)

- Laika apologizes because he wanted to leave and she was to focused on the goal to care. He says dont be. He sees ghost whales. Laika can only imagine.

Mina- Gives Laika an invitation to her birthday. Laika is touched but before she can get her thanks out Mina asks her to give it to her brother. Bro is dead, still had a present for her. Laika gives the news and gift to Mina and is paid with silence.

Pebbles - The fucking iris and the prettiest pebble. Laika knows its impossible that Iris put it there but tells Pebble otherwise. All dialogue with them after this point is them talking about Iris.

Dominat Birds- Thier goal is to rise above the petty trials of life and death and ascend to godhood as the sole race. Lose thier humanity in the process. Also All in one government plan. (Millitary Law and God i think? i was to busy backflipping to catch that) Assimilation. The fact the birds have thier ability to sing taken away at birth.

First of all, you aren't bothering me, I love it when people ask about my headcanons. And secondly, *shocked* I'm being ASKED to share my angst?!

We're gonna be here for a while

He picks/scratches at his skin,

he doesn't really know why he does it, but he often spends full nights scratching his arms, chest, and legs. But NEVER at his neck or face, the other sides can see that. It's normally targeted at his scaled half, but he does scratch at the human side too

The scratches typically run very deep, there's a lot of blood, and Janus doesn't always have access to a medkit

Janus is the youngest out of all the sides, around 21-24, but he never really got to have the full childhood that he was supposed to

Virgil is the oldest of the sides, and when they were younger he was around a lot, basically playing mother hen. But once Janus turned 10 or so, Virgil stopped spending as much time with him and Remus

So Janus had to grow up quick. He learned how to cook (not very well, but food is food), spent most of his time reeling Remus in (who is around 15 at this time), and delivering food to Virgil's door, trying to get him to come out

At the end of the day, Janus was too tired to play, read, or do anything really. He just went to bed.

So young Janus' schedule was;

wake up, make Remus/Virgil food, force Remus to eat the food, attempt to keep the house from a disaster fire from Remus, make lunch, talk to Virgil through his door, more babysitting of Remus, make dinner, send Remus to bed, clean up, go to sleep

Hardly time for playing in there

To this day, if you hand him a toy, he'll simply stare at you with wide eyes

Janus can tell when people tell lies

They don't taste nice or anything, he can't even taste them at all. The lies are revealed with a sharp stabbing pain to his chest

Similar to a heart attack.. But worse.. So much worse.

Imagine if you took a long knife, and stabbed it repeatedly, over and over for hours, breathing faulting, and the entire room starts to spin. It hurts

Now imagine that you have to keep a straight face during this pain or get strange looks and get told you're faking

Janus has gotten a little too used to that stabbing pain

Everytime that Janus stumbled in SvS? That was him trying to hide the pain

The dark side is cold, really cold, like Canadian winter cold. But the darks don't have central heating

It's sadly very common for Remus to find Janus passed out, near hypothermic, in random places in their own home

The dark sides home is... a lot less pleasant then someone would prefer. It looks like a prison with concrete walls and floors, bars cover the windows, and the backyard is completely fenced in with 15ft+ high fences.

The sides rooms move when Thomas is willing to accept that they're a part of him and that he needs to work with them

Remus' room moved back in DWIT, because Thomas accepted that he's there and that he can't get rid of him

Janus is still stuck in the dark. Thomas has given him a chance, but he's not completely accepted that he's needed yet

Janus can often be found passed out on the light side's couch, simply because his room is far too cold

Virgil almost always finds him first, he doesn't like Janus by any means, but he knows first hand that the dark half is cold, so he normally just throws a heated blanket over him and calls it a day

Janus is always gone before Virgil can talk to him

His shepards crook is actually a cane

He had to start using it right after Virgil left, Remus ran off to the imagination and Janus chased after him. He ended up getting cornered by a monster, and it punctured his knee almost clean through

Remus only found him because he was screaming so loud. Roman could hear it from his half of the imagination, but thought it was an animal and didn't bother to investigate

Even as an adult, his sleep schedule is horrible

He's coldblooded, makes the dark half so much worse

The closest thing that he's ever had for a friend (when he was younger) was Logan. They would watch documentaries together and talk about them for a bit

Those stopped when Janus had to take care of Remus

Remus is his friend now, but he still spends most of his time looking after him and making sure that he's eating (he tends to forget that he needs to eat)

Remus goes back to the dark half everyday to spend time with Janus

Janus is a really bad cook, he can make half burnt grilled cheese and pasta. Thats about it. It's not from lack of effort really

The other sides are genuinely concerned for his health and well-being. Everytime he shows up he seems paler, his eye bags are larger, and his clothes hang off of him

Janus doesn't actually believe them when they say that they want to help though

Janus gets maybe two hours of sleep daily

He spends the entirety of his free time trying to help Thomas

He would drink coffee to help him stay awake and productive, but he hates the taste of it

The others grow more and more concerned everytime he passes out. Which is a lot. Janus always brushes it off though

Logan is the only one who doesn't believe him

He remembers what Janus was like when they were younger, and it was NOTHING like how Janus acts now. They're completely different.

The Orange side made him show up and impersonate the other sides. The only time that he showed up willingly was in POF

He honestly doesn't know what he did to make Virgil hate him, nor does he know why Virgil locked himself away when he was 10

Janus is angry, he's angry that he had to grow up quickly, he's angry that Virgil abandoned him, he's angry that Remus needs to be constantly supervised, he's angry at Orange, he's angry at himself. He's angry. But doesn't have the energy to do anything

He cries himself to sleep a lot more then you would think

Touch starved. Completely touch starved. He breaks down completely when someone touches his wrist

You would think that self preservation would have better self care, but no. He's really bad at it. The closest he gets is getting 4 hours of sleep instead of the normal 2

Even after Remus left, he spends all of his time trying to help Thomas... Only to get pushed to the side

He normally completely forgets to eat food and only remembers when he's on the verge of passing out

He's gotten super good at makeup to hide the red streaks from crying so much

He loves snakes, but can't own one in the dark half because the temperature would put them in extreme pain or even kill it. Janus doesn't want to put the poor creature in suffering

The only toy he still has from childhood is a stuffed snake, but even that has had extreme mending

He sewed his entire outfit himself, and he was quite proud of it! Every time another side insults it, he withers a bit inside

The other sides have tried to stage an intervention so many times, but Janus can somehow avoid them everytime

He doesn't want their pity, because thats what he thinks it is, pity.

T r u s t I s s u e s

Lots of trust and abandonment issues

He has talked to Emile, but he has a hard time trusting him

Completely avoids Patton. Completely.

You can occasionally see him out of the corner of your eye in the common rooms, but the second you turn around he's gone

He's short as hell

His hair is like curly fries. Complete ringlets. But he hates them, hense the hat

He hates it when the others steal the hat

Everytime they insult his scales, he dies a little inside

How the villians reveal the issues in the BNH society

Honestly, stain was taken out of the story to quickly for my liking. I resonate with his ideology because I see it in regards to our culture. You see it on social media all the time: people recording themselves “helping” the homeless, or donating money. People must have their good deeds acknowledged and glorified.

But as I say, if you have to be perceived as a good person, you’re probably not a good person.

I think stains argument can be seen with the character Mt.Lady who comes across as an attention seeking, lazy, I’m only here so you can take my pic type of hero. What really drives her to be a hero? Is it because she can help society or is it for the fame?

And then we have the hero ranking system which I feel is the number one problem in this society. It’s a status that many strive for- like actor who only acts for the sake of getting "Academy-Award Winner” added to their title. Now theres nothing wrong with recognition, however, if your only you should strive to be the best at your craft for yourself rather than to get notoriety, that will come naturally.

And its not the heroes fault, its society as a whole that has laid out a culture that treats heroes as professional athletes. They get merchandise, riches, fans, etc. 

All Might is the embodiment of what it means to be a true hero. Get the job done because it needs to, not because it will make you famous. I would like to see an OVA of the world before it got to where it is now.

I can’t stand child abuse and that chapter showing us Shigarakis’ back story really hit me. Here you had a little boy who wanted to be a hero and was punished by his father for that. His father abused him, and his family enabled the abuse to continue. There was no hero for Shigaraki.

No one looking out of him No one there to save him.

You had a little boy who at first thought he was quirkless and then bestowed a very destructive power at his most vulnerable state. It was sad to see him accidentally kill his dog and ask his sister to help him after thinking he was in danger.

Then you have this child walking alone in the streets, half dead, starved, and traumatized, and no one saw him. (The old lady did, but when she saw his appearance, she moved on like it was nothing.)

No one thought to take this child to the police station? A hero didn’t see him?

Except for All-for-One. He saw Shigaraki. He saw a broken child that could be molded and raised to be his perfect vessel. 

And so he left one abusive relationship and entered another.

For a society filled with heros, there was non in his life.

La Brava and Toga are characters that weren’t given a chance to be themselves. Both of their quirks take on an instinctual nature. Both of their downfalls happened in their school years.

Toga is naturally drawn to blood. It is blood, ones life force, that she needs to use her quirk. When she drinks the essence of someone, she becomes that person- its like the ultimate type of bonding with a person. Now, I think Toga may have had something mentally going on with her that was only amplified by her parents and peers view towards her. With positive reinforcement, consulting, acceptance of her nature, I think Toga would’ve lived a pretty normal life. If she wanted to be a hero, she would be good for stealth and spy missions.

La Brava is very similar to Toga in the obsessive nature linked to their quirk. La Brava has to know everything about a person and actually love them for her quirk to work. Her quirk is probably the best quirk to have on a support team. The teachers and her parents should have taken the time to understand her quirk (I’m sure quirk counseling exist.) and maybe have some type of quirk sensitivity class, so children can understand that not all quirks manifest in the same manner.

If La Brava had the right guidance and acceptance early on, she would be amazing to have on a team.

Majority of the worlds population has a quirk. It may be mundane; it may be extraordinary. They may never have to use, or the have to use it to survive.

From what I understand thus far, you have to have a heros license (or maybe other licences) to use your quirk. Using your quirk without a license is a felony offense.

But is that fair? If someone has a quirk that allows them to fly, why should they be penalized for just wanting to get around faster? If they aren’t using their quirk to cause damage and harm, then why is it a problem. Why are people punished for their ability?

It would be no different from only professional singers signed with a label allowed to sing- anyone else will be fined.

In the MHA: Team Up Missions and Vigilantes, we get more a behind the scenes of the hero society. Vigilantes are classified as criminals even though the work they do is for good reasons. The little boy in the first team-up mission was holding the toxin of his quirk for YEARS because society forbids the use of quirks without a license.

What if your quirk is always active?

So now we have the Meta Liberation Army. They believe the use of ones quirk is a human right. I agree. By standing against a system that is flawed, they have become a terrorist group. They may have well done some terrorist actions thats not touched upon in the manga.

I kinda wish they didn’t merge with the LoV. I think them being a neutral opposing force between heros and villains would have made the story more interesting. 

Since it seems that Hirokoshi is releasing novels that takes a side path to the main story line, I hope to see novels that takes up back the beginning (like day one with the first person to be born with a quirk and a mutation)

 @waxwingedhawks​   Did a good job at pointing  out mutant discrimination. I knew that spinner was ostracized based on his appearance, but some of the things that waxwingedhawks mentioned that I didn’t catch the first time around. 

Even when I’m reading the story, I question when do we consider whos human and who’s an anthromorph/object brought to life?  

Hawks, Miruko, and Tsuyu are people who’s quirk presents as animal traits. They look more human than animals. Then we have Tokoyomi, Mina, Kojiro Bonda, Centipede and

(Ok, idk if wash is really a washing machine, or thats their costume)

Who clearly are closer to being non-human that human

If Horikoshi does decide to shed more light on that topic, I would like to see that as part of Mina’s character development.

I’ve actually become disgusting engross in this world and I’m currently reading Vigilantes to pick up some more pieces on the shady nature of this society.

... hmmm... yeah I... ain’t feeling it. I think my tpn feelings overall are carrying this more than anything pff. I didn’t hate it, it was just...... mediocre... like if this wasn’t tpn, I probably would have dropped it at this point.

when Emma was like “share your pain with us!!”, I liked how Norman turned to Ray like “Ray. help. tell her I’m right” kind of like Ray did in s1 pfff-

Norman cried the words he didn’t allow himself to say in s1 :( I’M EMOTIONAL. it might not be the icing on the cake execution wise but GOD MY HEART. And knowing he’s going to die to it’s just- (well not if the pen has something to say about it but more about that later)

where- wheres my trio hug :((( RAY HUG THE CHILD NOW

it’s interesting that while Emma got the entire emotional speech spotlight, only Ray got a reaction shot to “I won’t live long”?? equivalent.... exchange...?

I thought Norman had a seizure when he broke down in front of Emma and Ray and I kinda wish he had because while it’s good to have him say it outright (a win for communicationnn), imagine THE ANGST. “I want to live with yo- *coughs up fountains of blood*”.

So. yknow that hideout Cislo or Vincent referenced when talking to Emma and Ray. Yknow where Norman hid the children they stole from farms, making it look like demons did it? ... w-what about them? will we see them? Are they getting left behind? it would have worked for Norman’s plan, since all they had to do was stay put and wait for demons to be yeeted. But now... he’d have to take them all too. But... I doubt we’re gonna introduce a bunch of new designs and characters? Or are we? Who knows. I don’t. I have unreasonably amount of protecc feelings for those children I’ve never even seen haha- WHERE ARE THEY. I mean... the plan rn is to immediately use the gate right? or is the plan to eradicte the GF farm staff and higher ups? I guess if thats the plan it might work. Or I guess the plan is to save Phil for now???

the idea of Sonju just... slicing his arm and throwing it at demons in a loop sounds so funny to me please someone make that.

I liked that Mujika turned to the lambda kids after giving a cup to the demon children but then we didn’t see their reaction or anything and then it cuts to the temple??? that was weird. was there sth missing there? confusion.

I also like Isabella remarking "[a radio] was supposed to be there" regarding the shelter, because it further heavily implies they know of the shelters and just let them be. Which further confirms that they should have just reframed the shelter and had the kids escape from it quickly but oH WELL.

I really liked demon Emma apologizing and Norman's reaction to that. it was a sweet little moment and like, the realization of apologizing for something that she didn't do but is aware of and all that. Cycle of hatred and all that shiz hell ye. Ik the anime won't rly delve into that but I kind of relish in the angst potential of the village - sure it was undone but some were still eaten and died and transforming people back won't bring those back. So, that’s some hella terrifying implications for families; and I'm assuming Norman is aware of those so. guilt time! not that he wasn't aware it was bad but yeah- I teared up at that moment :<<

I feel like this season really does its best when it’s doing the whole two worlds/species angle. Mujika and Sonju, the village, demon and human Emma... all that stuff.

I wish we had gotten more time (god this is really the season’s downfall) thought to see Vylk talk to the GF kids more often. it’s implied he told them not to hang out there before but I would have liked to have him show up a few more times before that but yeah. Runtime very RIP.

I also feel like CW is bending over backwards to put cliffhangers at the end of episodes. that was already a problem in s1 when they had Phil come in when Don and Gilda were in Isabella's room. it was obvious it'd be a copout but they still did it. I'm just wondering why we had to have Vincent disagree with the group to this extend (and if the shock value might play a part in that). we have 2 more episodes, why are they introducing more plot threads? Just streamline it you dofuses. I just don't know what good can come of it unless it's like an ultra big brain move to help them?? (and then we're back with the forcing cliffhangers thing) - if it's actual conflict, this'll just make things more confusing and clustered, and we don't have time for that right now imo. But who knows maybe it plays into something I just don't understand yet and it'll work out somehow

I felt like this episode was kind of... awkwardly executed whenever something that was a slightly dynamic movement happened?

The whole bit while Emma is walking up to Norman could have been better, but it’s passable, except that a lot is spelled out for us.

Or him collapsing is cut really weirdly. you barely really see it, you just kinda piece it together from Emma’s reaction and her catching him.

Most facial expressions are good though, which is arguably the more important part in this scene. I feel like a better execution just would have elevated it even more.

The only one I felt was really awkward in its entirety is Barbara’s scene with the children demons. I felt like that was in particular kind of stiff and the cut between the child and her was too sudden and felt jarring. TPN anime doesn’t really do that sort of stuff a lot, so imo it’s kind of “??” when they do it. With Norman it was too, but that at least had a good transition over to it (with bg and fg panning) and nice animation. Barbara’s just kind of switched. Tbh don’t switch it out, and as the child screams, switch over to her facial expression as her own voice fades into the scream? I think that would have done it too and also be low effort.

I think it’s moreso the flow of the shots than the actual shots though? it’s a bit too fast paced and sometimes missing inbetweens (like the wild demon eating sonju’s hand is literally just 2 frames) - it’s very weird. It’s jarring, but I can’t really explain why.

I’m sorry for the staff, I’m sure the production hasn’t been easy. maybe with the bluray release we’ll get some updated animations/inbetweens.

Some appreciation though:

as mentioned, most of the facial expressions, even if the body language was a bit stiff.

the cut from the trio talking to the eye-transition of the demon and the following breath animation looked nice. Also his arm regenerating!

Where has the anime’s “show off the younger kids” angle gone? I thought they were always pretty good at that. but they haven’t really contributed anything since the whole tidbit about the older children always eating less for them. And even then it was just Lani and Thoma.

Potentially, what segments we saw in the shelter will come back for the GF raid thematically but I’m just... EH?

at this point, just stick a syringe part at the end of the stick and just inject it and it’s gonna solve everything probably.

I just don’t understand why that needed to happen. Assuming they go to the human world, it’d be perfectly acceptable for me for medicine to be so advanced that it’d be able to like, lessen their symptoms and significantly improve their lifespan.

Don’t just... REMOVE their struggles. It’s okay to not be normal and cured. it’s okay for their lives to be impacted by it going forward. In fact, I’d much prefer that.

(added in later) OH wait they literally spell out why the cure being in the pen is meaningful - because it opens up a path where they can live through not having annihilated all the demons - it's essentially the moral "reward" for not killing them. Since they probably wouldn't have gotten it if they did that. I still think it wasn't needed and the blueprint on its own would suffice for another pen-convinience moment but I kind of get what they're going for, I just don't think it's worth it . In their case, going to the human world (while they don't know it) means having more medical expertise at their disposal which they can then use to survive. UNLESS they're actually not welcome over there and have to hide or something, in that case... that might be hard, true. I guess I'll come back to think about this once it's over. For now, it feels kind of unearned and it wouldn’t even have to be this way in my eyes which makes it somewhat worse.

But good, let’s say in-universe you need it NOW, then at least don’t put??? the medicine??? recipe??? INTO the hologram.

What if they just checked the GF blueprint and Norman goes “hey, Vincent... do you think this [database/archive room] could have some data on our experiments?” - Norman said he tried to develop a drug to help them but the supporters who had that data were purged. but... they had Smee to help them too. But SOMEHOW, a dude from 15 years ago just HAS the cure??? (at least let Norman develop it himself and have the data be just THE DATA and not the recipe).

It might still check out somewhat??

15+ years ago, James Ratri was assumingly still the gatekeeper since the switch to Peter seems somewhat recent considering his big "era of James has ended" speech.

I guess the implication is that just like Smee => Krone => Norman, a supporter all that time ago gave random person the pen when they escaped.

When Vylk found him, he also had just the data medium of the pen (not the entire pen), so maybe the farm thought they eliminated it and that’s why they didn’t change their methods to not work with those drugs anymore? It's still a bit curious that their experimentation hasn't changed at all in 15 years but maybe that's because they keep killing the smart people instead of making them scientists to research for them :D

Somewhere since those 15 years, Smee gave Krone the pen (probably a few years before she got to GF?), which means that at that point the gate the keyword "future" sent them to, was still in tact when Smee gave Krone the pen. Maybe WM wasn't discovered yet at that point?

then WM got discovered, James was chased. He made that phonecall update and was probably eventually killed, along with the human location (and likely bunkers since they knew a radio was supposed to be there, begs the question why they didn't remove it) being discovered (the one with the future keyword) and the gate there being destroyed.

The problem is just that it can make sense when you think about it for way too long and assume things in good-faith, but it still feels unearned.

Maybe I would care more or this would feel a little more earned if we knew ANYTHING about that person? They seemed fairly young, so it’s probably not Minerva/James Ratri. The “hope” talk reminded me of the book in the shelter, but I’m not sure if that checks out either? The cookies were rotten but not completely. I know cookies hold out relatively long, but would they rly not be completely rotten after 15 years? I MEAN. Maybe not. Who knows. I tried to google it but didn’t find anything. 

But anyway. That tidbit is going into my “shelter kids OC project” I guess.

But even if the worldbuilding makes sense, I think the data set in itself makes little sense?? How did they find that pen part? Did a supporter give it to them? Why do they have the cure? Clearly their group of escapees wasn’t doing too hot (#help) and they seemed relatively young too so they probably couldn’t have worked in the farm.

Were the shelter escapees lambda escapees? but if that was the case, wouldn’t the WM group have secured the cure information more properly than in just one pen (maybe it was and those were just destroyed, to be fair) - it’s just WEIRD to put the cure for Lambda experiments on the same blueprint as the GF layout??? that makes so little sense.

Plus, why would you send them to GF, when it’s so secured and all that, and not just send them to the human support place our GF kids were sent with the “future” keyword, which had a gate. Maybe it didn’t exist 15 years ago (that the humans had control over it, that is), but even then it seems weird to me to imply to send them to GF instead of one of the other gates that existed. I mean. The “future” location’s gate wasn’t destroyed when Krone got the pen right?

I’m guessing maybe it was meant as help for escaping? But then again, why the cure? I guess if they met lambda experiments? I’m just confused.

Also: do we just accept that the layout of GUARDS and SECURITY MEASURES has not changed in 15 years???

Okay, so I thought about this prompt and it got really dark.  Hope it hits your angsty heart right.

Geralt walks out of the inn with a smile twitching at his lips.

The smile is only the latest of a seemingly endless list of of strange things that have occurred since he first met Jaskier.  He had been so convinced that loneliness was just another part of the Path, as inevitable as the monsters he was called upon to hunt.  It had been obvious, aching, and constant, but he told himself that he would accept it.

And then, Jaskier.

Jaskier with his quick smiles and fumbling affections.  Jaskier who never shied away from the blood and death that clung to him like shadows.  A man that had seen the worst of Geralt’s sins only to choose to remain at his side.  

Falling for the bard had been slow and steady--the final slide towards something close to happiness.  As implacable as gravity.  

Geralt wasn’t proud of how long it had taken him to see it, but now...

Now he knew the taste of Jaskier’s love on his tongue, the way his eyes flared dark with lust and bone deep happiness, and how perfect the bard felt against him.  It was, all of it, perfect.

The kiss had been unexpected--as most things regarding Jaskier seemed to be.  He’d been careful around the bard since all the venom he’d spat at him on the mountain.  Too damn grateful and terrified of what could happen if Jaskier realized that Geralt was only capable of bringing pain to risk upsetting the human again.

But then he’d woken to find Jaskier curled along his side like he belonged there and the scratchy sheets and sounds of other humans in the tavern below them became meaningless.

Geralt let himself fall.

Now he walks away from the tavern with happiness thrumming in his chest like the wings of some songbird trapped within his ribcage.  Jaskier had been sleepy and warm when he’d left, smiling softly at Geralt’s explanation that he intended to finish off the drowners nearby and use the money to get them another night here and some food.

“Hurry back,” the bard murmured and settled languidly on sheets that smelled like the two of them.

Geralt’s feet move faster at the reminder, his mind torn between the hunt and the man waiting for him back at the end.  For the first time, Yennefer’s rejection feels meaningless.  He’ll be tied to her forever, but not the way he is tied to Jaskier.  Loving Jaskier will be a choice he never regrets.

He’s almost out of sight of the village when a voice calls out from behind him, “Witcher!  Geralt of Rivia!”

He turns and feels the dull crackle of magic sink deep into his chest and freeze him in place.

Yellow eyes go wide with surprise and fury, but he can do nothing as a woman dressed in plain black robes closes the distance between them.  She appears unfazed by the raging Witcher caught in her spell and steps closer to examine him more closely. Whether she was truly looking at him was hard to determine as a gauzy scarf was tied around her eyes, blocking them completely from sight.

Geralt glares at her, still trying to fight the compulsion to stay still.  She smiles, “I’ve been looking for you for some time, Witcher.”

A growl rips itself free from his chest.

“Yes, you are a vicious thing, aren’t you?  But can you also speak?”

Abruptly the vise around him is loosen enough that he can move his jaw.  He licks his lips--torn between getting answers and not wanting to give her the pleasure of doing as she asked.

“What the fuck do you want, witch?”

She sighs, moving close enough to run her fingers over the front of his armor.  He grits his teeth when he catches the scent of her--rot and blood.  Her fingers are stained at the tips as though she never manages to clean away the remains of her victims.

“It’s unfortunate, Witcher, that we must meet this way,” she says with a fake pout, “I feel like we could be great friends-”  The way she says friends makes him want to vomit.  “-but I’m afraid I need your services now.”

“I already have a job--go find another Witcher.”

“Ah, but you’re the only Witcher--or man, for that matter--who has managed to ensnare the lovely Yennefer of Vengerberg’s heart.”

Geralt stares, a cold knot twisting in his stomach.  “What do you want with Yenn?”

Somehow he feels the moment the eyes beneath the scarf turn to him.  They drift over his face, trailing slime and filth in their wake.  He shudders and she smiles again.

“I want to make her pay.”

His feet move with the inevitability of the damned.  Past the venomous laughter of the mage.  Back towards the tavern with a sick sense of dread.

He fights each flex and pull of his muscles to no avail.  Just as he tries to fight the words that echo in his mind with every beat of his heart.

Find the one your heart aches for and make them suffer.

Bile pools in his throat as each step takes him closer and closer to the person he has already hurt too many times.  Only it isn’t Yennefer’s proud, broken expression that fuels his cursed focus--it’s Jaskier.

He walks through the streets with the ghost of the happiness he’d felt this morning nipping at his heals.  He can feel the way his fingers are aching for soft skin and flesh that will bloom dark purples and blues when he wraps them around Jaskier’s fragile ne--

Geralt gives a full bodied shudder and vomits bile and the last of his supper into the street.  Someone shouts angrily at the mess, but Geralt can’t even stop long enough to snarl back.  His feet are already pulling him back to the path that will lead him to Jaskier.

In desperation, Geralt yanks weakly at the straps of his weapons until they fall with dull clanks to the ground.  His mind whirls, searching for loopholes in the command like an animal caught in a trap.  Suffering can mean so many things, after all.  Without his weapons, he can at least ensure that the bard isn’t permanently harmed.  All he needs is time.  Time enough for his Witcher abilities to eat through the power fueling the compulsion and spell that keeps him moving forward.

Beneath his feet, the floorboards of the old tavern creak irritably at his weight.  His mind whirls.  Perhaps he’ll be lucky and Jaskier has disappeared into the town to spend the day among the market stalls.  It’s only been an hour or so since Geralt left him in their room.  He shouldn’t be expecting the Witcher to return for at least a few hours and--

“Geralt?”

Jaskier’s voice feels like a death knell instead of the salvation it usually brings.

Geralt bites his tongue bloody when the bard opens the door to their room wider and smiles, bright and beautiful and so damn trusting.  He looks delighted at the thought that the Witcher has returned so quickly to him.

“Well, my dear Witcher,” he says as Geralt steps forward on numb feet, “this is an unexpected pleasure.  I thought you were going to be hunting for the rest of the day?  Or did you just miss me?” Jaskier’s eyes are dancing with laughter and love and--

“Now why would I do that?”

Jaskier stops, surprised and looks back at Geralt.  “What--what do you mean?”

The words drip like poison from Geralt’s lips even as his horrified mind tries to order them away, tries to clench his jaw--anything to keep this from happening. He can feel the spell settling into his skin and bones like a disease, eager to fulfill the compulsion of the blind witch.

Make them suffer.

“Did you think last night meant something to me, little bard?” he asks, despite the screaming in Geralt’s head, “That I actually wanted more from you.”

The bard is still now, only a slight tremble in his hands.

“Why would I ever want anything from you?” he continues, speaking slowly like Jaskier is too stupid to understand the lies spilling from his mouth, “You.  An insignificant bard whose only claim to fame is the fact that you follow after me like a lost puppy and pick up every scrap of affection I throw your way.”

Geralt wants to scream.

He wants to grab Jaskier close and whisper that he loves him over and over again until it’s all he can remember.

He wants to find the witch and find some way to make her suffer before he rips her shriveled heart out of her chest.

But all he can do is watch every bit of eager happiness leach away from Jaskier’s body like sun behind a cloud.

“But,” Jaskier’s voice is rough and Geralt thrashes within his mind against the compulsion with the need to cradle him close, “...what about last night?”

Geralt feels his fingers twitch and he’s so elated by the realization that the spell is weakening, that he doesn’t notice his lips forming the words that destroy every bit of the happiness he’d found at his bard’s side.

“I was bored and you were always so willing to spread your legs for anyone--I figured I could finally see what all the fuss was about.”

And here, here is the worst of it all.

Because Jaskier doesn’t turn on him.  Doesn’t snap or snarl at the hateful words Geralt says.  Doesn’t slap the Witcher across the face like he deserves.

No, he goes still and quiet.  There is no surprise in his features, nor any of the usual good humor and quick wit.  He straightens as best he can and nods to himself.

“I see,” he says in a brittle voice, “well, I think I understand now.”

He reaches for the pack beside the bed and stuffs his clothes in roughly while Geralt watches helplessly.  The Witcher’s fingers twitch again at his side, but it does nothing to stop Jaskier’s jerking movements as he pulls on his boots and walks past him to the door.  

There he stops and tilts his head so that Geralt can’t see the tears dampening the collar of his shirt.

“Goodbye, Geralt.”

The door closes behind him with a soft click and Geralt is left staring at the wooden lute left quiet and alone on the bed still tousled from the night they’d spent together. 

Jaskier doesn’t come back.

Basic : Ruishiro Takizaku a 18 Year Old Hero Apprentice who Works under the Under Hound Agency. He has a height of 6'2 with a lean and muscular build, He Prefers to Be Called Rui instead of His First Name. His Hero Name is ' Morphicus '

Appearance : He Is a Rather intimidating Young Man; if his Height and Build isn't enough to scare people then The Sharp and seemingly permanent glare he'd usually show would do the trick. He has a pair of Transparent eyes which reflects the Purest Color of an Amethyst, Short Ashy Blue Hair that's usually Styled in a Messy and Lazy Manner. He has Ear Piercings on both ears and his Fingers are filled with stainless steel Rings. His usual attire consist of a Black Button Up shirt, Black Jeans and a High Collared Jacket and finally Heavy Combat Boots. His Expressions are Rather complex but the most prominent Expression he wears is the usual Death Glare that never seems to disappear or the infamous ' Stone cold Bitch Face '

Personality : Though He may Seem Cold and Distant at First especially with his Intimidating Expression; You Better hope it stays That way because he is actually an Asshole at Heart. He's Sarcastic, Brutal and Cruel with his Words and He wouldn't even care what that person's Status is may it be a president, the no. Hero, a Family Member or His Lover, It wouldn't matter. This Trait of His Gets Him into a Lot of Unnatural Trouble since it's his Nature to be argumentative and Hostile and he seems to have a hidden world of Remarks to match his Wits. But during One of the Very Rare moments where his Asshole meter has reduced half way he is actually very Sweet but has an odd way of showing it. He lives for the chase and it's one of it. Generally he is like any human being, Complex. But if the situation calls for it he is polite and respectful to those People he hasn't formed a solid opinion for yet. If you want annoying then go To Rui; He Tests People's wits and Irritates them unconsciously just to see where their True Feelings Lies; He has a big brain so his analytical skills is beyond average, he is observant and knows How to Manipulate a situation that's being laid in front of him. So being an actor, lying and charming his way in is not a big deal.

Quirk : Umbra Morphology; The Ability To Morph into Something Inhumane By the use of Darkness or Any objects that Holds the Color 'Black'. When the Ability is used; Black Sticky Viscous Substance will crawl onto the User's Chosen Body Part for Transformation and slowly Consume that Body Part while Forming the desired form of the User. But the color stays on and unchangeable.

How it was acquired/ Small backstory: in the First Place He was deemed Useless by Society and was lesser than Trash Meaning; He was Quirkless. His Family was surprisingly accepting of his current state but He Himself did not Like how low he had stood with the constant Mockery of those people who had quirks. He wanted to acquire his own Quirk. He wanted to acquire Power for Himself and Show everyone that he was worth something and because of this selfish desire of His He began to search desperately; He searched up the Black web and Looked for any possible ways to acquire power without Having a Quirk. Sure there were sites that offered to use his body as a Lab Rat but that may possibly get him killed. So he kept searching and searching until he stumbled onto a site that offered a Mystery Box. It was Cheap; Too cheap that it was suspicious but he was curious. He wanted to know what was inside, could it be a gadget that could grant him Power? Could it be body parts instead? Whatever it is ; something urged him to buy it. And that's where he slowly began to ruin his own Life.

Fast Forward to a Few Days; The package arrived and to his utter Disappointment it was a price of Paper in a Box. He paid for something like this. A paper.... No a contract, a Black eerie paper that had letters written with white ink. He later decided that the Site he bought it from was a scam because when he searched it up again; There was nothing. He didn't bother reading the paper at all. And one night when he was answering his Assignments, his eyes drifted towards the black paper on his desk and when he took a closer look the words were not in the language that he spoke of. It was an ancient language; that's all he could confirm but judging by the output it really was a contract . So thinking that it would be fun he signed the contract and that's where things began to get scary ( I'll skip the other stuff)

He Later found out that The contract he signed was a Contract to be a Vessel of The Demon Of Darkness Umbrachus, A demon that had forced Rui To Accept it in his Body now his Body isn't his own. Sure Rui was happy to know that he had a 'quirk' now but later when he found out what price he needed to pay was the cause of his mass destruction. He had plunged himself on his own demise. The Demon craved the Flesh of and Blood of Humans and it forced Rui to eat Raw Flesh. Umbrachus was a demon associated with Wrath, Pride and Greed so if any of those emotions are triggered by Rui then there's a high chance of Umbrachus Gaining Control of his body. The Demon was Toying with Rui; Umbrachus Started Manipulating Rui's surroundings and giving him Hallucinations. Rui feard sleeping because Umbrachus could gain Control over his body whole he was passed out. And Finally Rui had enough when Umbrachus had nearly Killed His Younger sister due to Hunger; With the incident taking Place Rui Fled. He Fled and Lived in the streets, He fought the demon with all his might and when he was at his wits that's where Hellhound appeared to his rescue. Hell Hound runs a Hero Agency called Under Hound. And this Agency isn't just associate with heroes. They are also Masters of the Occult so Hell Hound who was in a similar situation as Rui took Pity on the Boy and Took him to His Agency where Rui was Given Proper Training to Control the Demon. And soon Rui was given a chance to become a Hero; not a Hero for the public or media but a Hero of The Night. A Hero Who Kills Villains not arrest them.

I have no idea what meme is going around, but since I’m sooooooooo late in posting the actual fic, I’ll post a snippet. This is part of the first chapter of my fic. If you want some context for it, this snippet is from the fic that I describe briefly in the second to last bullet point here.

Also, fair warning - there may be typos in this and it may change somewhat before the final fic is posted.

Louis startles awake some time later. For a second, with his headphones on, he can’t figure out why he woke up so suddenly. Then he realizes it’s because the plane is moving unsteadily, jerking somewhat and causing the luggage around them to jostle in its compartments.



Louis yanks his ear buds out of his ears.



“What’s happening?” He asks, and he can hear how scared his voice sounds.



“It’s just turbulence,” Harry says from next to him, and Louis turns toward him. He has a concerned look on his face, the same look that people get when they’re approaching a wounded animal.



Louis can hear a voice over the intercom reassuring the passengers of the plane that they’ve encountered turbulence and requesting that they fasten their seatbelts, and Louis follows the instructions with shaking hands.




“Hey, Louis,” Harry says. “Are you okay?”



Louis digs his nails into the armrest.



“Yeah, yeah, of course,” he says, body tensing with every jerk of the plane.



“Listen,” Harry says, leaning toward Louis, who is trying very hard to look unbothered by the fact that their plane may or may not be seconds from plunging them all into the ocean. “I don’t know if you fly a lot or not, but I fly back and forth between London and New York City quite a bit and I swear this happens all the time. I know it’s scary, but—hey, Louis,” he snaps his fingers, forcing Louis to look at him instead of moving his eyes rapidly around the first class cabin. “It’s going to be okay. I promise you this is just normal turbulence.”



Louis barely hears him. All he knows is that the wine he drank is churning in his stomach ominously and his blood is rushing in his ears and the entire place is shaking. Their plane, thousands and thousands of miles in the air, is jerking around and moving up and down and Louis is fucking terrified.



A particularly hard jerk of the plane causes a woman’s glass of wine to knock over, and something in Louis just fucking snaps. Maybe it’s the alcohol, maybe it’s the stress of his work disaster, or maybe it’s the fact that what was supposed to be a relaxing plane ride back to the UK has forced Louis to deal with a devastatingly attractive man, a bitchy and neglectful nanny, and an impending plane crash. In retrospect, Louis will decide it’s probably a combination of all these factors, but in that moment, all he can focus on is his own panic.



“We’re gonna fucking die,” Louis says, shaking off Harry’s hand, which is gently clutching Louis’ arm in a comforting gesture, and grabbing it in Louis’ own sweaty hand. “This plane is on its way down and we’re going to fucking die. After the absolute shit day I had, this is how it ends for me. It’s like a sick joke.”



Harry squeezes Louis’ hand, looking alarmed.



“I really don’t think ⎯”



Louis cuts Harry off, not listening.



“Listen mate, I’m not ready to die. I’m not ready. I haven’t even had the chance to make my mum proud yet. My childhood friend, fucking Stan, that arsehole, goes over to my mum’s house all the time to have tea and he tells her all about the amazing things he’s doing with his career, and here I am, a fucking failure who lies to my mum to make my job sound more important than it is. I’m a goddamn marketing assistant, I mean ⎯ what the hell?”



“You’re not a failure,” Harry says kindly, his voice low like he’s trying to talk someone off the ledge without making a scene. What’s even the point in talking Louis off the ledge, at this point? Every bump of the plane makes it clear that Louis’ death is imminent. What’s the point of anything anymore?



“Oi, you don’t have any fucking clue, mate. Want to know how my morning went?”



Louis continues before Harry has the chance to respond, squeezing Harry’s hand more firmly.



And then it just all pours out.



All of it.



Not just the events that transpired that morning, either. Oh no, Louis isn’t able to stop the word vomit (better than wine vomit, but not by much) after telling Harry, who he hadn’t known before he stepped into first class and allowed his eyes to fall on this fine specimen in a pristine black suit, just sitting there like a fucking wet dream, about the humiliating experience of spilling orange juice on the suit of a random businessman and ruining an important business deal for his company.

Instead, he keeps going.



“It’s probably better that I die now because once my boyfriend hears what happened at work, he’ll probably break up with me. Which might be a good thing, actually, because he keeps begging me to move in with him and I really don’t want to. He’s always such an arse when important people are around at work and it makes me feel like shit. He just comes around to make me look like an idiot and then three seconds later he’s like, hey, Louis, I need your help with some paperwork, which actually means…”



And going.



“…Sometimes Liam asks me to go to the bar with the guys after work, but I’m too tired, so I tell him that I’m headed to the gym, and then I really go home and put my joggers on and watch shit telly for hours with Zayn. So now Liam thinks I’m some kind of gym freak, when actually…”



And going.



“…I shouldn’t have gotten the tattoo, but to be fair, they shouldn’t have given it to me when I was that wasted. Isn’t that against the law? So now I have to get fucked with the lights off and refuse shower sex because shower sex in the dark is dangerous and would probably end in a concussion, so…”



And going.



“…It’s just embarrassing, a 27 year old man who can’t cook, so I tell everyone that I’m…”



And going.



“…Lottie bought me these fucking panties as a joke, right, and I was never going to wear them. Then one day I’ve got a huge meeting, right, my first at the company, and I haven’t done laundry in like three weeks because I hate doing laundry, so I just say, well, fuck it, and put them on. The meeting went so well and I’m not usually superstitious, but I won’t tempt fate either, so now whenever I have an important meeting, I wear panties. I forgot them when I flew to New York, so that explains why…”



And going.



“…When I realized what Cleo had done to the sheets, I cried. I’m man enough to admit it…”



And going.



“…I went into his office to feed the goldfish and he’s just floating there upside down, the poor fucker, and Niall had put his faith in me so I couldn’t tell him. I ended up heading to this pet shop and I found one that looked similar and just…”



And going.



“…I’m not a huge fan of beer, I prefer fruitier drinks, but I feel like a twat at a bar ordering that, so I…”



Louis doesn’t know what’s come over him, but by the time he stops talking, his mouth is dry, his lips are chapped, and he’s told this man every single secret he’s ever had in his life.



He’s panting, finally having run out of words entirely, and that’s when he takes a second to glance down at his hand, still clutching Harry’s so tightly that the poor man’s knuckles are white. Harry is staring at him, mouth open and eyes wide, and then Louis begins to tune into the rest of his surroundings.



The plane isn’t moving. The plane isn’t fucking moving.



“We landed,” Louis says, somehow finding his voice again as the realization washes over him like a cold rain. His throat feels dry and scratchy from overuse.



“Yes, we did,” Harry says calmly. His eyes are smiling.



“We didn’t die,” Louis says, ignoring the fact that most of the people in first class are already grabbing their carry-on luggage and filing out of the plane.



“No, we didn’t,” Harry confirms. Now his mouth is smiling.

“I’m—” Louis begins, and then cuts himself off. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what just happened. I know I can talk, I mean, my mum and Zayn and Brad and everyone I know, actually, they tell me all the time, but that was a lot. You should’ve stopped me.”


Louis then realizes that he and Harry are still holding hands, and he drops Harry’s hand like it’s scalding.


“You didn’t really pause long enough for me to step in, truthfully,” Harry says, and Louis watches as he stretches and wiggles his fingers, probably testing whether they still function after Louis gripped them hard enough to cut off the circulation for god only knows how long. “But I didn’t want to anyway. It seemed like you needed to let that out, and I didn’t mind. Please don’t worry about it.”



“Don’t worry about it,” Louis repeats in disbelief. “I just told you every single one of my deepest darkest secrets and you hadn’t even met me before we got on this plane.”



“It happens?” Harry says as he unbuckles his seatbelt, shrugging. He then gives Louis the dorkiest smile Louis’ ever seen on such a beautiful person.



“It really doesn’t,” Louis, says, groaning and unfastening his own seatbelt.



“Well, it happened this time,” Harry amends, finally getting to his feet and reaching his hand out to help Louis up in a very unnecessary gesture. Louis accepts the hand anyway.



Louis has a slight headache throbbing at his temples, a consequence of the wine, probably, and he’s too overwhelmed to deal with an attractive human that just listened to him rant for hours when he should’ve slapped Louis across the face and told him to shut the fuck up.



Louis grabs his backpack from where it’s been sitting at his feet this entire time and takes one more look at Harry, who is currently cracking his back with an expression of mild discomfort.



“Uh, thanks for dealing with all this,” Louis says quickly, gesturing to himself to make it clear what “all this” refers to. Harry, who’s now stopped cracking his back, pauses and opens his mouth, likely intent on saying Louis’ words aren’t necessary and he was happy to deal with Louis treating him like a diary for the past several hours because this guy is some kind of fucking saint.



As the reality of what Louis confessed to this poor man sets in, he can feel the humiliation spreading. He takes one last appreciative look at Harry, trying to memorize everything about him to file away in the back of Louis’ brain, which is where he plans on shoving this memory as soon as possible.


“Anyway, bye!” Louis adds before Harry has the chance to say anything else.


And with that, Louis turns on his heels and half walks, half runs out of the cabin, barely even hesitating for long enough to thank the pilot and members of the cabin crew he passes on his way out.



Since Louis didn’t check a bag, he’s able to keep up his brisk pace while he passes through Heathrow. In fact, he doesn’t stop until he hails a taxi outside the airport and is sitting safely inside, giving the driver the address for his building and trying to ignore the scratchy feeling in his throat.



In another universe, one where Louis and Brad weren’t together and one where some things actually go right for Louis, he would’ve loved to have flirted with Harry on the plane, maybe even gotten his number by the end of the flight. In this universe, however, Louis has faced one disaster after another in a single day and spent the past few hours completely humiliating himself in front of a man who would probably rather watch paint dry than ever hear another word out of Louis’ mouth.



Things didn’t work out for Louis today, but it’ll be fine. Come Monday, he’ll work things out at Kiwi Corporation and figure out a way to save his job.



And as for the word vomit thing on the plane, well. It was an embarrassing experience and Louis will have to try very hard to block it out of his memory, but it’s not like Louis will ever see Harry again.

So! We’ve reached the final stretch of season two and as of this current moment, we have 5 episodes of Osomatsu left. I’ll be so sad to see it end but I have high hopes for a third season and/or a movie announcement in the near future. It’s still a profitable franchise so if they want to keep raking in the dough, they’ll give us more NEETs. Simple as that. With that being said, I thought it might be fun to talk about anime we’re interested in watching next season so feel free to come in and check out my shit taste if you dare.

Gegege no Kitarou

The original manga series was created in 1960 by Shigeru Mizuki. It is best known for its popularization of the folklore creatures known as yōkai, a class of spirit-monster to which all of the main characters belong. The first anime series aired in 1968 and the franchise is one of the most beloved classic’s in the medium. You’ve probably seen parodies of it in various shows and may have not even realized it! I’m a sucker for this kind of spooky stuff (Hell Sensei Nube, Dororon Enma-kun, etc) so this was an immediate yes for me. I personally cannot wait to see what they do with this new iteration and given how unpredictable it is to gauge how reboots/remakes will turn out, it could really go either way! Expect good old episodic fun that will more than likely revolve around a monster of the week formula.

I would like to say that given its notoriety, its pretty much guaranteed a solid series but I thought the same thing about Sailor Moon and look at how bad Crystal turned out.

Golden Kamuy

A manga series written and illustrated by Satoru Noda. The Ainu language in the story is supervised by Hiroshi Nakagawa, an Ainu language linguist from Chiba University.

Plot: Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold (worth about 800,000,000 JPY / 6,636,000 USD) stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. After being attacked by the 7th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army and other mysterious groups, he decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido's harsh northern wilderness.

This one is very interesting to me because the Ainu people are a minority in their own country and as such they are not depicted very often in anime/manga. The only other Ainu characters I can think of right off the top of my head are Horohoro and his family from Shaman King but from what I’ve heard, it seems like the author has gone to great lengths to accurately depict their culture. I’m quite interested to see how this turns out both in terms of quality and how well the manga itself is adapted given how it features brutality and ridiculously comedic scenes both.

Hinamatsuri 

Based on a comedy seinen manga series written and illustrated by Ootake Masao.

Plot: One night, a strange object falls on the head of Nitta, a member of the yakuza. Inside the box is a strange young girl named Hina. She has tremendous supernatural powers, and Nitta finds himself reluctantly taking her in. Her powers can come in handy for his yakuza business, but he also runs the risk of her using them on him! Not to mention, if she doesn't use her powers, she will eventually go berserk and destroy everything around her. Nitta and Hina's strange life together is just beginning...

If that summary doesn’t sell you then I don’t know what will. We’ve all seen the tried and true trope of a-mysterious-girl-falls-out-of-the-sky-and-finds-herself-in-the-care-of-a-young-man but this time, it involves a yakuza member rather than a hapless high school boy so that alone has piqued my interest. The fact its a seinen manga also gives me hope that it won’t be plagued by overdone cliches and honestly I’m expecting plenty of wacky gang shenanigans involving various plot points only the yakuza could find themselves in.

Sweet Punishment (Amai Choubatsu: Watashi wa Kanshu Sen`you Pet)

Look. I don’t care that these are going to be shorts. I will check out the first episode the very second it is available and if it doesn’t disappoint then it just might become my new obsession. I have been waiting for something like this that actually delivers and honestly if I get blue balled then there is a good chance I might riot. 

Plot: (Based on Izumi Shou's josei smut manga.) The story is set in a prison in the near future. It revolves around Saotome Hina, imprisoned despite her innocence, and the elegant yet sadistic guard Miyoujin Aki. Hina's heart and body are at the mercy of Myojin's "heartless yet sweet domination" from physical examinations to her lovers' prison visits.

Jesse Sanchez on Artist with Issues

Filmmaking is a difficult medium because it is so tied to finance. By nature it is a team sport and your team need to be fairly compensated for their time. It’s easy for someone with an idea they’re in love with to imagine that professionals will want donate time to an interesting project for the love of doing good work. But the reality is people need to pay their bills, and even if they didn’t, there’s a certain kind of mutual respect that comes with paying someone what they’re worth. If you want the time of talented and experienced people you have to have a lot more money than any person with a low income like myself can gather.

When someone feels respected through financial compensation you can push them harder creatively which makes for a better collaboration, because I don’ t have to consider if ‘I’m working them too hard for how much I’m paying them’. Even when I manage to get the funds together to complete production, the costs of good post production stall projects I would have released ages ago if I did not have to save for many months between working on them. Good colorists and good sound mixers are always busy and even if they love the project, work is work.

Because self financing forces my work to be made in fits and spurts it makes my projects harder to promote because I can’t be sure when they’ll be done. The enthusiasm that people feel while on set getting the movie made dissipates and its hard to get that momentum back when the project is actually done.  

Because of the time it takes to get money saved up to move my own projects forward I find myself falling behind my peers from film school/movie jobs I’ve had after college, there are so many nice white guys who have more resources and support systems and who are oblivious to their own privilege out there competing for jobs. Of course they think its absurd that my experience could be any different from theirs, because even though on paper I have Mexican blood, in real life I easily blend in with them so from their perspective ‘what’s the difference really??’.

I’m white passing, so when I talk about discrimination to non PoC creatives I know (people who think of me as friend) will tell me “I’m the whitest Mexican ever’ like my passing somehow saves me from white supremacy. Throughout my freelancing career I’ve seen what happens when people learn my surname is Sanchez. Because I look white and speak without an accent they are happy to employ me, but the rules always change when my ethnicity is found out -now all of a sudden it’s fair to pay me much less, because white supremacy has taught them that Mexicans are happy to do the same labor as whites for cut rates.

This isn’t something that’s easy to pin down and prove to anyone who doubts my claims. I don’t have some kind of undeniable smoking gun. It’s an attitude. It’s an unexpected push back on my quote, or even the money offered in the original post because of course the Mexican guy will work for less. Nobody ever just says it out loud, but I can see how easy the other actual white guys have it, how often their mistakes are forgotten immediately where if it were me I’d end up having to do a job for free or risk being taken out of the rotation for jobs next week. It’s exhausting and endlessly frustrating. And no one wants to even cop to it happening.

The diaspora of being white passing leaves me in a position where I’m told my appearance should nullify my racial background while at the same experiencing the same prejudice once I am ‘found out’. What’s odd is because people can’t tell on sight that I’m a minority I get these weird moments of racial dissonance where I’m accepted as one of them but then later when my otherness is discovered I can actually witness the shift in attitude. The rules change underneath me in an instant. I can watch racism change the tone of the interaction once it becomes known that they’re not safely insulated in a white-cis-het dominated bubble, the kind that white people put so much effort into creating for themselves.

I get depressed sometimes when I think about what I could’ve done if I had been payed fairly for every job I had worked. How much farther I would be along without student loan debt or with significant financial help from my family. I get really depressed when I wonder about if I will ever be paid what I’m worth. I know I have talent and a point of view, I know that it may not happen right away but I can get to a place where I can work on my own projects full time. That will be enough.

Beyond the racial complications, as an artist I find myself struggling with the notion of whether or not satire can change minds. I used to think it could, but the older I get the more I see it how it preaches to the choir or worse the subjects of the satire are unaware of it and are finding it funny for all the wrong reasons. I was almost settled on the idea that comedy on the whole was not effective anymore at getting people to empathize with points of view other than their own. But I’ve pulled up out of that nose dive. The problem isn’t that satire is ineffective, it’s that toothless satire is, and that thats what I’ve seen too much of lately. So I’m making something with teeth. This time I’m animating it so I can draw what I can’t pay for.
