Tutorial Tuesdays--Getting Started
Tumblr media
Tutorial Tuesdays is a new block on my blog in which I give art advice and tutorials for anyone looking to improve their art. But before we get into the good stuff, a quick obligatory background.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I know it’s tempting to look at my art and the art of people you look up to and come to the conclusion you’ll never get to that level no matter how hard you try, but it is possible to get to that level. You just gotta practice regularly and before you know it you’ll have it down-pat.
Tumblr media
These posts will be pretty long, so to save Dashboard space, I’ll put the meat of things under a Keep Reading link so you can visit them in full. Alright, with that out of the way, are ya ready kids? Let’s go get some art tools!
Tumblr media
I only say this because I’ve seen people make fantastic things with very limited materials and people with some of the finest tools but don’t use them to their full capacity. Again, it’s not what you use, but how you use it. When I talk about art tools, I’m mostly going off of what I use since those are the tools I’ve worked with a lot.
Tumblr media
Pencils. Your most basic writing and drawing tool. For sketching and drawing, I use a 0.7 mm mechanical pencil with a good eraser. It’s quick, it’s convenient, and I often stick it in my ponytail when I’m not using it so I have easy access to it. They’re also pretty cheap. For commissions and grayscale shading, I use drawing pencils that come in various hardnesses. The hardness of your pencil will be noted by a number and a letter. A pencil with an H stamped on it will be harder, won’t smudge very easily, and has a very light load when the graphite is on the paper. A pencil stamped with a B will be softer, smudges very easily, and has a darker streak on the paper. The number on the pencil following the letter lets you know how hard or soft it is (4H is a very hard pencil, 8B is a very soft pencil). Your typical No. 2 pencils from school are in the HB category, which is middle of the road. You can find them individually at art stores or in packs. Walmart in my town offers a package of 6 drawing pencils bundled with two animation colored pencils, two markers, and an eraser for about $9. Pretty good deal. Speaking of...
Tumblr media
Erasers. A pink rubber eraser will do you just fine, though make sure your pencil has a nice one on it for finer details and while you’re drawing. You can use a kneadable eraser if you have one, they’re squishy, you can mold them to how you see fit and they don’t leave any crumbs to clean up, but I’m not quite fond of them.
Tumblr media
Markers and ink pens. Let me tell you, once you use a pen like one of these, you’ll never go back to ballpoint, which often has far too many broken lines to be practical to use and make your lineart look like trash. I use a Fine Tip Sharpie Pen, preferably in the no-bleed variety so the lineart doesn’t sink into the opposite side of the page. Recently I’ve been using Brush and Bullet tip Prismacolor Scholar markers for comics and good drawings. They’re a bit erratic to use at first, but it takes practice.
Tumblr media
Colored pencils. Now these are my go-to for coloring since they give a wide range of color, combinations, and effects. For best results, I stick with Crayola or Cra-Z Art since the color tend to remain consistent from box to box and you can get a big box of them for a pretty good price. Prismacolors would be nice, but they’re pretty expensive and I don’t quite like the feel.
Tumblr media
Sharpeners. Electric ones you can just keep at home, but for on the go I recommend a small manual one you can throw in your bag. Bonus if you get one that has a shavings catch so you don’t have shavings making a mess of your space.
Tumblr media
Ruler/straight edge. You’ll want one of these for comic panels, perspective guidelines, and, well, straight lines, though in some cases you might want to practice making straight lines without the use of it. I use a metal one, but a plastic will do you good as well.
And now, the most important thing of all, your drawing canvas!
Tumblr media
For starters, I recommend you get yourself a good sketchbook. Nothing too fancy, just one of those spiral-bound ones ideal for sketching. For your really good art, copy paper will work just fine. Really any kind of paper (or even cardboard!) will work but I implore you to avoid using loose-leaf notebook paper. I cannot tell you how much it hurts to see something so beautifully drawn wasted on lined paper. Not saying you can’t doodle in your notebook and show off something silly you sketched, but if you’d count a drawing as your magnum opus, your drawing probably deserved being on blank paper where it can shine.
Tumblr media
I was considering making this an entry for Digital Art tutorials, but I’ll put these here just in case.
Tumblr media
I do a lot of digital art using my HP laptop built with a touch screen. It can’t stream for sh1t but it runs single player Steam games alright and I use it for homework a lot. Before this, I had a desktop computer and used a mouse. I would like to own a Wacom tablet in the future, but until then this setup is nice enough. Remember, it’s about how you use your tools, not the quality of tools at your disposal.
Tumblr media
Now this is a scanner that’s used only for pictures/documents. You can’t print or fax anything with it, but it’s good for just pictures. I own an HP printer/scanner combo, but it is pretty finicky and no longer prints. Alternately, you can just use your cell-phone camera to take pictures of your finished piece, but I do not recommend doing so for comics unless you’re giving previews of one panel.
For my programs, these are the three that I use:
Tumblr media
Good for doodles, already on your computer (probably), and I use this program to make authentic looking Homestuck drawings (like, you could mistake it for being an actual panel in Homestuck).
Tumblr media
My primary art program. Operates much like Paint Tool SAI and photoshop. Very good for general art and comics.
Tumblr media
Still learning this one, but it’s just like Medibang and is equipped with tools for animation.
And yes, these three programs are downloadable for free. I do want to try out Clip Studio Paint EX, but the cheapest I can get it is $80 when it goes on sale during the holidays. Normally, it costs $250.
Next time, we go over some drawing basics and some tips that will save your sanity while sketching. Stay tuned!

3 steps to creating a mobile game are
Mobile games are a hot topic these days. With the rise of smartphones, people want to play games on their phones and not just in front of a computer screen. And with so many different options available today, it's hard to know where to start! In this Beginner's Guide, we will go over everything you need to consider when creating your own mobile game from scratch.
The 3 steps to creating a mobile game are:
Make your plan.
Proper planning, or a lack of planning, can make or break your game.
Before you start building your first game, you need to know what it is you want to make. Is it a side scroller?
A puzzle game?
Or some type of racer?
Will it be an iPhone-only app (iOS) or cross-platform compatible (iOS and Android)?
Take the time to write down ideas, come up with unique characters, play with different art styles, and think about the type of gameplay that would make your game fun.
After you have a general idea of what you're going to create, it's now time to develop the actual plan or design document for how this mobile game is going to work.
This document should include the following:
Name of your game and a one-sentence description (e.g., "Catch as many pets as possible before time runs out!")
The target market for your game (e.g., age, gender, interests, etc.)
Type of mobile platform you are targeting (e.g., iOS, Android, etc.)
Any additional platforms you are considering if different from the main one you are focusing on
Target platform(s) release date(s)
Game genre and subgenre
A number of players/users per team or single-player mode? What is the expected playtime?
Screenshots of gameplay (you can put these in the app store to get an idea of how it will look)
What setting or environment is your game taking place in and why does this make sense for this type of game?
Main character description, backstory, special abilities/powers /weapons/tools, and a short bio
Main enemy or obstacles for the player to overcome
A list of items that can be collected by players during gameplay (e.g., coins, health packs)
List of any other characters in your game - who they are and what their role is within it
Any additional modes or features that take place in the game
What kind of monetization will you have?
Will it be free-to-play or paid?
What are your costs going to be if any, and how much revenue do you expect to make from them?
You'll also need a list of expenses such as server costs developing tools marketing/promotion web hosting
Choose your software
Unity: Unity is the most popular game engine.
It was designed for 3D games but can also be used for 2D games.
There are many tutorials available to help you design your first 3D game with Unity, so even if you have no experience developing games, it won't be difficult to learn.
You can develop a game for any operating system using this software, so if you want to publish your game on Android or iOS, you will need to export the final version of the game.
UDK: I'll give you an example of how I dealt with a belief that caused me to procrastinate.
A few years ago, I was procrastinating on working on one of my projects because I was scared that it would take a lot of effort.
I realized that this was an irrational belief and replaced it with a rational one: "Even though this project is likely to take a lot of effort, it's also going to be fun and rewarding".
GameSalad: It all depends on the individual's experience with code and programming languages, but GameSalad is designed to be simple enough for anyone to start building games without any prior knowledge at all!
Creating an app of your own has never been easier than this.
All you need is a computer or laptop and an internet connection, which means you can get started right away.
Learn your programming language
This article gives you information on which game development language you should choose. There is no hard and fast rule for this. The article also recommends C#, which is an object-oriented programming language that is easy to grasp. It is also the most widely used programming language among Unity developers.

7 Virtual Happy Hour Activities and Drinking Game Ideas to Fight Isolation
Tumblr media
If you live with roommates or family members, call yourself lucky to have a built-in social network during these times of social distancing — and in that case, you can play pretty much any drinking card game. But if you’re living alone, you may be feeling an urgent need to connect with friends and family, and to have some fun, while in-person visits are on hold.
Fortunately, staying entertained and connected while at home isn’t as difficult as it may seem. And there are many ways to connect in a meaningful way, beyond FaceTime chats. Here are seven virtual happy hour ideas, plus specific recommendations for each, to try while you’re socially distancing.
Classic Drinking Games to Play Online
Start, of course, with a drink in hand — for more see tips on how to have a virtual happy hour here. Sign onto Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, or your preferred video calling app with a small group of friends. Then, try playing one of the classic drinking games below.
Never Have I Ever
Never Have I Ever is an easy game to start with. The rules: Each person starts with five fingers held up (your other hand should be free to hold your drink). Taking turns, each person says something they have never done. Those who have done that thing have to put a finger down and take a drink.
Helpful tip: Have a moderator or host call on each person to take their turn, since not everyone appears in the same order on the grid on different video apps.
Some Never Have I Ever statement suggestions to start you off: Never have I ever lived through a pandemic (everyone drinks). Never have I ever bought an entire case of La Croix. Never have I ever argued with someone in the grocery store over toilet paper.
Power Hour
A Power Hour is another easy way to gather friends near and far while socially distanced. All you need is to find a previously prepared playlist of one-minute songs like this one, or prepare a playlist that one person will play and monitor over the hour, changing songs every 60 seconds. How to play: Take a drink every minute. It’s that simple.
As one Twitter user told us last week, “My friends and I did a virtual power hour last Friday, round 2 this weekend.” How did he do it? “One person in charge, dozen people from around the country synchronized over Slack.”
To get some face time into the mix, organize the game as a video call so you can see each other and chat in between — see if you can keep up!
Beer Pong
As Alyson Shontell, editor in chief of Business Insider, tweeted last week, “Virtual beer pong is possible, you just need four phones and FaceTime.” Each couple sets up two phones, one facing them and one facing the set of cups they’ll be shooting at on the opponents’ side. A little advanced, sure, but for those desperate enough to put in the effort, why not?
Possible roadblock: You’ll need to have at least 12 cups and ping pong balls on hand, which seems unlikely in an apocalypse. But maybe you’ve stocked up.
This weekend I did my first virtual hangouts and saw friends we rarely get to see for happy hours. I can also confirm that virtual beer pong is possible, you just need 4 phones and facetime – one on each couple, one on each set of cups. pic.twitter.com/Uhpz8cVP6l

Virtual Trivia & Puzzle Games
People around the internet have been touting the Jackbox Party Pack, launched in 2014, as “the perfect excuse for rounding up friends, family and fellow gamers for a few hours of gaming delight.” This delightfully old millennial and generation X-era product’s resurgence is perfect for bringing trivia, drawing, and word games like You Don’t Know Jack (a trivia game like Jeopardy), Drawful (a drawing game like Pictionary), and Word Spud (a fill-in-the-blank word game like Mad Libs) into a virtual happy hour.
Although designed as “local multiplayer” games (as in, playing in the same room), they can be played virtually with remote players via a streaming service. The party pack costs a one-time fee of $24.99 for most platforms (Playstation 3, XBOX One, Nintendo Switch, Apple TV and iPad, and Amazon Fire TV), and at press time, $12.49 for a Steam Code or PlayStation 4.
Detailed directions for how to play Jackbox games remotely are available here.
If game platforms and signup fees seem like too much effort, consider using Zoom or your preferred video platform to play Charades, Pictionary, Trivia, Bingo, or Code Names. The virtual world is your oyster!
Video Game Drinking Games
Online Multiplayer Games
If you have a game system or even a really strong laptop, you might be surprised by how many video games can be turned into drinking games you can play with friends. Popular titles like Overwatch, Fortnite, and even Wii Sports have many drinking game iterations floating around the internet. All you have to do is start up Zoom, agree on your preferred game and rules, and you’re good to go.
VinePair’s director of marketing and resident low-key gamer, Jeff Licciardello, recently riffed on a Super Smash Bros. drinking game for a socially distanced version with two friends.
“While playing online with each other, we had Zoom up in front of us. We [VinePair] have a drinking game article on Super Smash Bros. on our site, so using those rules, I played with one friend on FaceTime and my roommate joined me on the couch for the drinking portion of the game. In terms of people, it’s up to you how many people you can wrangle. But basically … whenever you die you drink, when you’re waiting to fall off the platform after re-spawning, you drink, etc.”
Ideally, players will be fighting each other, but in a pinch (a.k.a. if you can’t get the private room to work), setting up Zoom in front of each player “at least provides a sense of camaraderie as you stream each other fighting random people on the internet while drinking wine,” Jeff says. “And my roommate, who doesn’t play video games but was stuck dealing with me hogging the TV, picked one of the opponents I was fighting and drank for them.”
Another pearl of Jeff’s drinking-while-gaming wisdom: “For the ultimate Mario Kart drinking game that doesn’t require a whole lot of thinking, simply drink every time you are hit by an item (shells, banana peels, lightning bolts, etc.) or every time you fall off the course.”
Online 1-2 Player Games
Although video game drinking games can be created for almost any game, try picking one you and your friends are playing right now (Animal Crossing: New Horizons, anyone?). You can set up FaceTime or Zoom on your phone, tablet, or laptop to see and hear each other while playing. And all you have to do is come up with five to 10 “rules” that will require taking a sip of your drink while playing.
To stay with the Animal Crossing example, players might take a drink every time you find a bug, donate to the museum, or acquire a new item for your house. Then, you can add a little more complexity to the rules: For finding your first bug, take three sips; for each subsequent bug, take one sip if it’s a bug you already have, three sips if it’s a new bug, and four sips for donating to the museum (it will make sense once you get going.).
This can also apply to social interactions in the game. When you receive a gift, take one sip; when you give a gift, take two sips; when you meet a new in-game friend like Bill (the duck) or Reneigh (the horse) or that crazy squirrel chick, Caroline (a personal favorite), take three sips; and when you visit an IRL friend’s island, finish your drink.
Have a Watch Party
Playing drinking games while watching movies or series is a popular choice, and an easy one to replicate in the virtual world. In March, Google Chrome launched an extension for Netflix Party, a new feature that synchronizes video playback, allowing you to stream and watch movies and shows simultaneously. It also adds a group chat so you can message each other throughout.
Choose a theme to make the experience easily repeatable. Oscar movies or zombie flicks, for example, are readily available. For groups of friends whose anxieties are assuaged by horror, now is a wonderful time to marathon appropriately themed works depicting hyperbolized disaster and trauma.
Try a topical double-feature of “Pandemic” and “Parasite”; a home invasion pairing like “The Strangers,” parts one and two; or a triple-feature of “Cube” or “Purge.” Or, make it a week-long marathon and stream every episode of the nation’s new Netflix obsession, “Tiger King” — it’s a seven-parter!
You can turn any watch party into a drinking game. For example, as VinePair’s Licciardello suggests for one of our staff’s favorite series, “Schitt’s Creek,” everyone has to drink any time Alexis says, “Ew, David!” If you’re not in virtual earshot, you can also use the group chat to direct when it’s time to drink. Along with text, the chatroom supports screenshots, emojis, and GIFs.
Another angle might be (and we’re biased here) taking turns choosing content about wine, beer, and spirits — such as the just-released “Uncorked,” which VinePair contributor Julia Coney describes as breaking new ground for black wine drinkers.
Have a Dance Party
Let off some steam and pent-up energy by hosting a virtual dance party. You can do this in any video conferencing app, or use a platform like Houseparty.
As in real life, a dance party can take many forms. Perhaps it’s a dance-off between you and one very energetic friend. For a group together, invite friends you used to go out dancing with every weekend, and recreate a playlist you would have been sloppily sipping and dancing to at a club or bar.
Crack some glow sticks (if you’re the type of person who has stocked for a dance-party emergency), sip on some easy-to-make cocktails, and dance like no one’s watching. Because chances are, even if your neighbors can see you, you likely won’t encounter them in person for a very long time.

Some of these will not apply to many people so pls take them with a grain of salt. Also I’ve been collecting these pretty much for the two years I’ve been in college so it’s not a guide, they’re just… random I guess.
Making friends
Warning - specially tailored for super shy people aka me
There’s a thing called the ‘first week window of endless oportunities’. It’s when groups are still forming and everyone’s desperate to make friends. This is the time to put your best self forward (I’m not saying be fake, just a little extra friendly).
Leave. Your. Door. Open. Do it. Even if you have a roommate. Best way to make friends the first week.
Actually get out of your room. You’re not going to meet many people if you hole up in your room. If you have a tv room or people are watching a movie, I don’t care if you’re not interested in what they’re watching, go.
If you have the balls to go to the room nextdoor and introduce yourself then you probably can skip this section by all means do it!
But if you don’t, going from door to door asking for help with your laundry takes a lot less courage + you will learn how to do laundry. Asking to borrow something (pencil, hair tie, hair dryer) also works.
If you’re staying at a residence hall, ask to sit with people at lunch! Nobody is going to say no, i promise.
Similarly if you see someone alone, ask them to have lunch with you!
Also if you meet someone you get along with, as soon as you can, ask for their number ‘so you can go to the dinning hall together’.
Remember people’s names - it makes people feel like you actually care about them. I know it’s hard but make an effort. Also it just gets annoying when someone asks about your name for the fourth time. Use mnemonics if you have to.
Asking what someone’s major is and where they’re from is standard procedure when you meet them but it doesn’t make for an interesting conversation. Think of other questions!
Make sure to arrive about 10 min early to your classes. There’ll be very few people and so it’ll be easier to strike up a conversation (actually people will probably talk to you without you having to say anything which is g r e a t)
Say yes - as a rule of thumb, your social life should prevail over your academic life the first two weeks. This is the time where you’re not really pressed for time. Say yes to watching movies, say yes to going to lunch, say yes to going to campus events (and even to parties). Obviously don’t do anything that makes you really unconfortable but do try to step out of your comfort zone
Make friends with an upper-classman from your same major. Or at least be on speaking terms. Talk to them on Facebook, ask them about your major, just use any random idc excuse to introduce yourself, it doesn’t really matter how you do it.
Don’t go home every weekend, even if you live close by. You’ll miss out on the best of campus life and some of the most fun memories with your new friends.
Keeping your old friends
If you know you’re going home for the weekend, try to finish most of your assignments/studying and make time to hang out with your friends. Spending time with them is the best way to keep those friendships alive.
But! Don’t worry too much if you can’t come home or make time for your friends too often, you just have to make an effort to text them regularly. It will come naturally if it’s your best friend, but don’t forget to set a reminder to text other close friends at least once every two weeks.
You may think you don’t care now but you will once you come home for the summer.
If any of your friends are staying in your hometown for college, be ready for them to get another friend group. That doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about you, but don’t be mad if they seem to have a lot more plans that don’t involve you. You can always ask to tag along some time and maybe even become friends with these people!
Some people you’ll just lose contact with. Don’t fret it.
Organization
Please print out or buy a calendar that has a whole page for each month. With boxes preferably *shameless plug*. You may think you have it all under control but there’s nothing like being able to see all your due dates, hang out plans and laundry days at a glance. (Also js but the pilot frixion are perfect to use on calendars because they’re erasable).
Hampers are love. Hampers are life. Also they’re the only way your clothes won’t end up all over your floor and bed (..and chairs) so get one.
Health
Adding fruit and veggies to all your meals is very easy to do. And very easy to forget.
If you know someone who goes for runs regularly, ask to tag along! You’ll be more likely to keep active if you have someone who’ll drag you outside!
Get a mini fridge (if your dorm doesn’t come with one). It’ll be the best investment you’ll make in your entire college life. Also make sure to check in with your roommate beforehand so tbat you don’t end up having two fridges. And ask if they want to split the cost.
Academics
You will have some crappy professors. When that happens, the solution is not to cry over your (almost inexistent) notes and complain to whatever poor soul will listen.Find your recommended books, take a trip to the library, sneakily get them online.
On that note, you can find PDFs of almost any textbooks online if you just look for ‘textbook name pdf’. Yeah it’s not legal. Neither should be charging 100€ for a textbook. Yeah it’s probably not the latest edition. But email your professor about it, they usually don’t mind.
If your copy shops refuse to print out textbooks, go early in the morning or late at almost-closing time or just at a time where there isn’t anyone else there bc they’re a lot more likely to do it (not saying they will okay but there’s no harm in asking).
If you’re not a morning person, you’re not going to go to that 8am 8/10 times so if you can avoid taking it, do. Yes, you did it in hs but believe me, it’s different
Chances are you will have at least one Ridiculous Professor (a.k.a. one whose tests ask about literally every single detail). This is why it’s a good idea to look for past tests from this professor (or just ask an upper-classman. Seriously just make friends with an upper-classman) ASAP. And then make flashcards like a mad person.
If you’re too sick to get yourself to the ER and attendance is mandatory for that class, email your professor bc most times they won’t even ask for a doctor’s note. If attendance is not mandatory, don’t even bother.
Check how much your assignments are worth. Always. Stop spending time you don’t have on shit that’s worth 5%, just turn in something.
Semesters go by a lot faster because what you learnt in hs in a year, you now have to learn in half the time. My point? Start studying early.
It doesn’t matter how amazing of a student you were in hs, get ready for your grades to drop. How much they drop depends on you.
Partying
Partying may not be your thing and nobody will force you to go out. But I’d say try it at least once (preferably during the first week). Not just because of ‘the experience’ but because you might make some friends that way (I know if I’d stayed home I never would’ve met some of my best friends in college).
You’ll probably end up having to dress up at some point. Don’t leave it until the last minute. Also ask around, group costumes are awesome and you’ll come up with something faster than if you have to think of one on your own.
On a similar note, get a box to put your costumes in! At the end of the year (or when you finish your degree?) you can go through it and remember all the awesome times you had. Also some parts of old costumes will come in handy for new costumes.
This may vary from place to place but generally heels are only for very special ocassions, not a saturday night party.
I know that for some of you it’ll be your first time drinking so some random tips:
Don’t do more than 3 shots of absinthe in one night. DO NOT DO IT CHILD
You’re probably going to have a favorite drink freshman year and you’re most likely never going to want to touch it again by the end of the year. Choose wisely (meaning don’t do vodka because you’ll grow to hate it).
Avoid wearing really dark liquid lipsticks because after just one shot they look absolutely disgusting (butthole effect).
Drinks are expensive so when possible just pre-game (also smol tip - if you want to get the most out of your alcohol, add gummy bears to your pregaming cup. Don’t fucking do this if it’s your first time drinking)
I don’t recommend puking but it’s better than a trip to the emergency room and a convenient solution if you feel like shit.
Put a bottle of water beside your bed before you go out and chug it as soon as you get home. Thank me in the morning.
Hungover lectures are torture. Don’t skip class though, go and record it (ask your professor first obviously)
Depends on how safe your city is, but as a rule of thumb, let someone know if you’re going home and preferably wait until someone else wants to leave so that you don’t have to walk home alone.
Extra
If you need to write an email to a professor do it ASAP. Don’t put it off until let’s say 3AM. Not only won’t they respond in time but they can see what time it was sent.
Turn on nofications for your school email (and if you don’t have one ffs make one).
if your laptop is kinda crappy and slow, get a new one. That thing will become a part of your body, especially in higher years. Freshmen always think they won’t bring it to class to take notes. Ha.
Do Not DO NOT give up your hobbies - I know how overwhelming uni can be but hobbies are a part of who you are. If you erase that, only your major is left. You are not just your major so make time for your hobbies.
If you have a roommate don’t like… use the Attack on Titan opening as your alarm. It will get you a pillow to the head. Applies to any other ‘wake up time to die’ ringtones too.
Also please don’t let you alarm go off for too long because literally everyone on your floor can hear it and that shit is annoying
Just a suggestion but stop drinking coffee every day. That way it’ll be a lot more effective during finals week. (Drink tea instead).
Remember to not be defined by your high school self. Nobody knows that person where you’re going anyway. Is there a certain way you’ve always wanted to dress? Want to dye your hair? Want to try being that person who compliments and smiles at people? Anything you always wanted to try? Now’s the time to do it!
Anyway, that’s all! I hope this was helpful and can ease some of your nerves about college!

If game platforms and signup fees seem like too much effort, consider using Zoom or your preferred video platform to play Charades, Pictionary, Trivia, or Bingo. The socially isolated world is your oyster!
When you receive a gift, take one sip; when you give a gift, take two sips; when you meet a new in-game friend like Bill or that horse or that crazy tiger chick, take three sips; and when you visit an IRL friend’s island, finish your drink.
Try a disease double-feature of “Pandemic” and “Parasite”; a home invasion pairing like “The Strangers,” parts one and two; or a triple-feature of “Cube” or “Purge.” Or, make it a week-long marathon and stream every episode of the nation’s new Netflix obsession, “Tiger King” — it’s a seven-parter!

Do Not Disturb: How I Ditched My Phone and Unbroke My Brain
Do you or your coworkers look at your smartphone more than 52 times a day (which is the national average)? Do you or your co-workers need to unhook your brain from the harmful routines it has adopted around cell phone use? If yes, how can this problem be addressed to improve the relationship they have with their cell phones?
My name is Kevin, and I have a phone problem.
And if you’re anything like me — and the statistics suggest you probably are, at least where smartphones are concerned — you have one, too.
I don’t love referring to what we have as an “addiction.” That seems too sterile and clinical to describe what’s happening to our brains in the smartphone era. Unlike alcohol or opioids, phones aren’t an addictive substance so much as a species-level environmental shock. We might someday evolve the correct biological hardware to live in harmony with portable supercomputers that satisfy our every need and connect us to infinite amounts of stimulation. But for most of us, it hasn’t happened yet.
I’ve been a heavy phone user for my entire adult life. But sometime last year, I crossed the invisible line into problem territory. My symptoms were all the typical ones: I found myself incapable of reading books, watching full-length movies or having long uninterrupted conversations. Social media made me angry and anxious, and even the digital spaces I once found soothing (group texts, podcasts, YouTube k-holes) weren’t helping. I tried various tricks to curb my usage, like deleting Twitter every weekend, turning my screen grayscale and installing app-blockers. But I always relapsed.
Eventually, in late December, I decided that enough was enough. I called Catherine Price, a science journalist and the author of “How to Break Up With Your Phone,” a 30-day guide to eliminating bad phone habits. And I begged her for help.
Mercifully, she agreed to be my phone coach for the month of January, and walk me through her plan, step by step. Together, we would build a healthy relationship with my phone, and try to unbreak my brain.
‘A Bit Horrifying’
I confess that entering phone rehab feels clichéd, like getting really into healing crystals or Peloton. Digital wellness is a budding industry these days, with loads of self-help gurus offering miracle cures for screen addiction. Some of those solutions involve new devices — such as the “Light Phone,” a device with an extremely limited feature set that is meant to wean users off time-sucking apps. Others focus on cutting out screens entirely for weeks on end. You can now buy $299 “digital detox” packages at luxury hotels or join the “digital sabbath”movement, whose adherents vow to spend one day a week using no technology at all.
Thankfully, Catherine’s plan is more practical. I’m a tech columnist, and while I don’t begrudge anyone for trying more extreme forms of disconnection, my job prevents me from going cold turkey.
Instead, her program focuses on addressing the root causes of phone addiction, including the emotional triggers that cause you to reach for your phone in the first place. The point isn’t to get you off the internet, or even off social media — you’re still allowed to use Facebook, Twitter and other social platforms on a desktop or laptop, and there’s no hard-and-fast time limit. It’s simply about unhooking your brain from the harmful routines it has adopted around this particular device, and hooking it to better things.
When we started, I sent her my screen time statistics, which showed that I had spent 5 hours and 37 minutes on my phone that day, and picked it up 101 times — roughly twice as many as the average American.
“That is frankly insane and makes me want to die,” I wrote to her.
“I will admit that those numbers are a bit horrifying,” she replied.
Catherine encouraged me to set up mental speed bumps so that I would be forced to think for a second before engaging with my phone. I put a rubber band around the device, for example, and changed my lock screen to one that showed three questions to ask myself every time I unlocked my phone: “What for? Why now? What else?”
For the rest of the week, I became acutely aware of the bizarre phone habits I’d developed. I noticed that I reach for my phone every time I brush my teeth or step outside the front door of my apartment building, and that, for some pathological reason, I always check my email during the three-second window between when I insert my credit card into a chip reader at a store and when the card is accepted.
Mostly, I became aware of how profoundly uncomfortable I am with stillness. For years, I’ve used my phone every time I’ve had a spare moment in an elevator or a boring meeting. I listen to podcasts and write emails on the subway. I watch YouTube videos while folding laundry. I even use an app to pretend to meditate.
If I was going to repair my brain, I needed to practice doing nothing. So during my morning walk to the office, I looked up at the buildings around me, spotting architectural details I’d never noticed before. On the subway, I kept my phone in my pocket and people-watched — noticing the nattily dressed man in the yellow hat, the teens eating hot Takis and laughing, the kid with Velcro shoes. When a friend ran late for our lunch, I sat still and stared out the window instead of checking Twitter.
It’s an unnerving sensation, being alone with your thoughts in the year 2019. Catherine had warned me that I might feel existential malaise when I wasn’t distracting myself with my phone. She also said paying more attention to my surroundings would make me realize how many other people used their phones to cope with boredom and anxiety.
“I compare it to seeing a family member naked,” she said. “Once you look around the elevator and see the zombies checking their phones, you can’t unsee it.”
Withdrawal Sets In
Next, I gave my phone the Marie Kondo treatment — looking at all my apps and keeping the ones that sparked joy and contributed to healthy habits and tossing those that didn’t.
For me, that meant deleting Twitter, Facebook and all other social media apps, along with news apps and games. I kept messaging services like WhatsApp and Signal, and non-distracting utilities like cooking and navigation apps. I pruned my home screen to just the essentials: calendar, email and password manager. And I disabled push notifications for everything other than phone calls and messages from a preset list of people that included my editor, my wife and a handful of close friends.
Where you keep your phone is also important. Studies have shownthat people who don’t charge their phones in their bedrooms are significantly happier than those who do. Catherine charges her phone in a closet; for me, she recommended a locking mini-safe. I bought one and started storing my phone inside, which simultaneously reduced my nighttime usage and made me feel like I was guarding the queen’s jewels.
And I pursued activities that could replace my phone habit. On the recommendation of my colleague Farhad Manjoo, I signed up for pottery classes. As it turned out, pottery makes a perfect phone substitute. It’s manually challenging and demands concentration for hours on end. It gets your hands dirty, too, which is a good deterrent to fiddling with expensive electronics.
After a pottery class, I updated my wife on my progress. I told her that while it felt great to disconnect, I still worried that I was missing something important. I liked having a constant stream of news at my fingertips, and I wanted to do more of the things I actually like about social media, like keeping tabs on my friends’ babies and maintaining ambient Kardashian awareness.
“I’m sad that you’re having trouble with this,” she said, “because it’s been great for me.”
She explained that since my phone detox started, I’d been more present and attentive at home. I spent more time listening to her, and less time distractedly nodding and mumbling while checking my inbox or tapping out tweets.
Psychologists have a name for this: “phubbing,” or snubbing a person in favor of your phone. Studies have shown that excessive phubbing decreases relationship satisfaction and contributes to feelings of depression and alienation.
For years, I’ve justified my phubbing by treating it as a professional necessity. Isn’t it my job to know when news happens? Won’t I be neglecting my duties if it takes me an extra hour to learn that Jeff Bezos is getting divorced, or another YouTuber did something racist?
I put this question to Catherine, who reassured me that I wasn’t jeopardizing my career by being slightly later to the news. She reminded me that I’d been happier since I dialed down my screen time, and she gently encouraged me to focus on the other side of the cost-benefit analysis.
“Think of the bigger picture of what you’re getting by not being on Twitter all the time.”
A Thoreau Cleansing
The biggest test came with a “trial separation” — a 48-hour period during which I wasn’t allowed to use my phone or any other digital device. (Catherine’s program calls for a 24-hour separation, but I decided to try a more hard-core version.)
I had dreaded this idea at the outset, but when the weekend actually arrived, I got giddy with excitement. I rented an off-the-grid Airbnb in the Catskills, warned my editor that I’d be offline for the weekend and took off.
A phone-free weekend involved some complications. Without Google Maps, I got lost and had to pull over for directions. Without Yelp, I had trouble finding open restaurants.
But mostly, it was great. For two solid days, I basked in 19th-century leisure, feeling my nerves softening and my attention span stretching back out. I read books. I did the crossword puzzle. I lit a fire and looked at the stars. I felt like Thoreau, if Thoreau periodically wondered what was happening on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Instagram story.
I also felt twinges of anger — at myself, for missing out on this feeling of restorative boredom for so many years; at the engineers in Silicon Valley who spend their days profitably exploiting our cognitive weaknesses; at the entire phone-industrial complex that has convinced us that a six-inch glass-and-steel rectangle is the ideal conduit for worldly experiences.
Sadly, there is no way to talk about the benefits of digital disconnection without sounding like a Goop subscriber or a neo-Luddite. Performative wellness is obnoxious, as is reflexive technophobia.
But I cannot stress enough that under the right conditions, spending an entire weekend without a phone in your immediate vicinity is incredible. You have to try it.
Rewired and Renewed
Allow me a bit of bragging: Over the course of 30 days, my average daily phone time, as measured by the iPhone’s built-in screen time tracker, has dwindled from around five hours to just over an hour. I now pick up my phone only about 20 times a day, down from more than 100. I still use my phone for email and texting — and I’m still using my laptop plenty — but I don’t itch for social media, and I often go hours without so much as a peek at any screen.
In one of our conversations, I asked Catherine if she worried that I would relapse. She said it was possible, given the addictive properties of phones and the likelihood that they’ll only keep getting more essential. But she said that as long as I remained aware of my relationship with my phone, and continued to notice when and how I used it, I’d have gotten something valuable.
“Your life is what you pay attention to,” she said. “If you want to spend it on video games or Twitter, that’s your business. But it should be a conscious choice.”
One of the most unexpected benefits of this program is that by getting some emotional distance from my phone, I’ve started to appreciate it again. I keep thinking: Right here, in my pocket, is a device that can summon food, cars and millions of other consumer goods to my door. I can talk with everyone I’ve ever met, create and store a photographic record of my entire life, and tap into the entire corpus of human knowledge with a few swipes.
Steve Jobs wasn’t exaggerating when he described the iPhone as a kind of magical object, and it’s truly wild that in the span of a few years, we’ve managed to turn these amazing talismanic tools into stress-inducing albatrosses. It’s as if scientists had invented a pill that gave us the ability to fly, only to find out that it also gave us dementia.
But there is a way out. I haven’t taken an M.R.I. or undergone a psychiatric evaluation, but I’d bet that something fundamental has shifted inside my brain in the past month. A few weeks ago, the world on my phone seemed more compelling than the offline world — more colorful, faster-moving and with a bigger scope of rewards.
I still love that world, and probably always will. But now, the physical world excites me, too — the one that has room for boredom, idle hands and space for thinking. I no longer feel phantom buzzes in my pocket or have dreams about checking my Twitter replies. I look people in the eye and listen when they talk. I ride the elevator empty-handed. And when I get sucked into my phone, I notice and self-correct.
It’s not a full recovery, and I’ll have to stay vigilant. But for the first time in a long time, I’m starting to feel like a human again.

Tech Shopping for College in 2019? Laptop with Accessories Reccomendation's by Stile Teckel
Hello fellow geeks, nerds, and anyone else that stumbled upon this corner of the world. It has been a while since I have done one of these pieces on the blog, or really anything at all for that matter.
I have some new projects in the works though which is going to see the site and blog becoming more active again. Therefore when I realized a project I just finished working on would be useful to someone else in the world, maybe, I thought it would be a great way to kick off the site a little bit. This is more for the tech side of us geeks as opposed to the gaming side of things 🙂
Ok, go ahead and pull up a chair, grab your Mountain Dew, Cheetos, and Character sheet. Sit back, as I am going to give a little backstory before I dive into the recommendations. Why backstory? First, everyone has a different preference and second everyone has different needs. Understanding what mine are/were in this situation will help you determine if you need to think a bit differently for any of these items or even if the reccomendations are of any use to you at all!

My daughter is starting college in 2019. She is a very scholastic focused individual and very goal driven. As such she is one of the top students of her school, tutors, will graduate high school already having college credits, has been class president, on academic teams, and much more.
I don’t mention this as a parent bragging (although there would be something wrong me if I wasn’t proud and happy that my sperm rolled a critical when I made her), but to understand that in my situation, school focus is VERY strong and I take that into account in my investment decisions. You should definitely consider your child’s enthusiasm and personal needs (not to mention your financial situation) before making any type of purchases!
Tumblr media
My daughter comes from divorced parents and she has been living with mom. In the past, I had set her up with a decent Laptop, but I definitely made some mistakes with it.
One of the mistakes I made is that it was too big. Sure it was a power-house with a huge screen. That also made it a lot to carry around and more delicate then something being hauled around by a student should be. The biggest issue was not even me though, but a manufacturer design flaw that I continually had to spend money fixing. The MFG refused to fix it out of warranty, even though it was a known issue with a certain run of their laptops.
Add all this together, and as I have been spending time examining her college needs for next year as well as helping to fill those and acting as a coordinator with the family on her dad’s side, I was noticing a lack of a computer or laptop in her life.
Tumblr media
I started making some discrete inquires, sending a few ninja notes around to the family, made some steealth and research roles, took 20 on some discussions with her, and learned that the laptop was possibly lost in a family move a little over a year ago and shes been getting by using other peoples computers, tech at the school, and simplier things such as her phone.
My daughter is the type of person that is not very materialistic, doesn’t ask for a lot, and will get by with what she has. So this all is really no surprise to me. Regardless for someone as academically involved as she is and as she is going to be, it definitely felt like I had missed a fumble I tossed out at some point! Spot check failed!
Not only will this be one of the most critical tools she will have in college, but she has also been getting by without it when it has been one of the most critical things in her current life by begging, borrowing, and stealing! Way to roll on your survival skills!
Tumblr media
This may not be the case for your child. While some sort of computer will most like be needed by just about anyone, what that is and to what level, is going to vary a lot based on what sort of classes they will be taking. Also keep in mind their choosen degree and classes could change! Unfortunately you still have to meet the current needs even if that was to happen.
So one of my NPC’s is telling me to shut the F up with the backstory already and get going with the main game, before I no longer have any players. Fair enough!
I started out by taking 20 on a research skill to learn as much as I coudl about what the most popular device (or one of them) is currently for college students and why. I also went into this research with the following thoughts in mind.
I wanted something that would be portable and somewhat rugged
A lot of power but not necassirly a high end gaming rig
Despite portability, useable as a desktop at a home workstation
It was not long before I was looking at the Lenova Yoga Line of products, quickly followed by the 730 series. The 920 while nice has to small of a screen in my opinon while the 730 is perfect in that its slim and lieght weight, without the screen being so large as to begin to turn the unit into a giant.
Tumblr media
What is nice about this laptop is that it comes in a lot of builds. This allows you to get one that meets your college needs and financial situation. You can configure for RAM, Graphics, Monitor, Hard Drive size, and a few other options. So regardless of your needs for a portable can be a good choice for just about anyone!
So regardless of your needs for a portable can be a good choice for just about anyone!
Personally, I ended up purchasing my daughters direct from the Lenovo website instead of Amazon. There were three reasons for this, whereas typically I would have bought from Amazon.
The first being they are running a holiday sale so the pricing direct was decent. Secondly, I wanted a configuration of the options I could not find on Amazon and so I wanted to custom build it, opposed to choosing one of the MANY options you will find if you follow that above link, and look at comparable items, on Amazon. Finally I had a discount code that was fairly sizeable!
Tumblr media
More Ninja notes sent around to the family, we made a combined effort and compared our dots in resources to see what we could pull together, did some begging with the GM, and what to proceed with.
I talked to my daughter, had her help with the configuration options, and then based on her needs begin putting together the accessory order. This was a grueling 6 hours of research and shopping!
She picked the bag, so that was personal prefence on her part. It does come in a lot of color options.
My first concern with the Yoga is the hard drive capacity. I ended up going with a 512 GIG SSD on her unit, but I know from recent experience that Windows 10 and some software will eat that up fairly quickly.
She’s going to want some games, photos, music, and more on her unit. Given the cost to upgrade to a 1TB HD, I thought a portable external drive, as a place to put that stuff, would make perfect sense. The plan is to also set up the portable on one of my cloud services as an off-site backup solution.
I also like that her data and personal files are actually separate from the Lenovo. She can leave that at home when she won’t need it.
The Yoga does have a built in mouse pad on the keyboard half, but given this is also going to serve as a at home desktop replacement a seperate mouse was important.
One theme I want on everything though is that is also portable so she can sort of Ala Carte choose based on where she’s going and what she will be doing, what options she needs to take with her. This setup is allowing her to carry only what she needs, when she needs, as opposed to everything being built in and stuck with that continual weight and bulk all the time!
This particular mouse is nicely sized for at home or on the road, is Bluetooth eliminating cables and mess, and rechargeable so batteries won’t be needed. It can be used on any surface including glass so she can use it wherever she goes with no worries about a mouse pad. With 3 device connections, she can set it up on some of her other items, like a phone.
A keyboard is almost most likely going to be entirely for at home use. Regardless you never know when you may set up for a long period in an off-site location and wish you had a full-size keyboard. So again, portability was taken into account and while being full size, this thing is light and thin.
Bluetooth, again helping reduce cord mess. Recharegale to avoide batteries. Not only like the mouse, does it retain 3 device connections but it handles Windows, Ios, and Android all three. Again making this a great compaion component for things like her phone, playstation, or a Roku.
While she will have a portable hard drive for her personal files and data I feel it is important to have a very small media, you can carry on a keychain if you want, and hand off to anyone with it being liekly they can use it. In short folks, you always need disc(s)!
This 128gig Micro SD with Adapter was perfect for that purpose and also took care of another concern I had.. I wanted her to have an Micro SD to SD card adapter! This gives her a portable storage device she can keep empty other then some favorites she might want to share with people continually or share between a lot of diferent type of devices (not everything can read a hard drive!). Most importantly in my opinon is it gives her something other then her data drive to hand to people and pass things back and forth, that does NOT contain sensative information on it.
The one thing the Yoga does not have on it from what I could determine, I really thing it should, is a SD card reader… I mean, you see how small they are?
Regardless I had wanted to get her a USB hub as a docking station for at home. I like this one as not only does it give her the docking stationn, it handlesthe SD reader concern, gives her a second headphone jack to share with a friend (airplane or train tavel comes to mind), a VGA port, and some other things.
I REALLY love that it has an RJ45 port. Some places still may only offer hardwire and not wifi and regardless of that, I ALWAYS prefer hardwire over wifi if I have the option!
I mentioned the VGA port. Why? VGA and HDMI monitor connection options are two instead of one! Meaning wherever she takes it she can plug into a TV or computer monitor either one with a low chance of not having the right connection type.
Also great if you have this and can be the hero of the party in a library or classroom when someone needs to charge, can’t connect to something, etc! Bribing the GM will almost always get you something discreetly!
Movies and such are defintiely a thing for her (thats my girl!). Also its not uncommon these days to have a class where you can (or even sometimes required!) turn in assignments on CD or DVD you burn yourself.
A portable drive takes care of this concern. Probably something rarely used in the classroom so mostly used for the home workstation or travel. A Bluray Reader and DVD/CD writer would have been sufficient for her I believe, but I actually have a quite a bit of blank Blu-ray media I will unlikely ever use, including Dual Layer. The DL Bluray drive’s cost difference with that writing ability vs. without is significantly less than the cost of the blank media I have. So I went the extra little bit on the basis if at some point the media is useful to her, this paid for itself immediately.
Note give that this item has moving parts and is the most fragile of everything that she is getting (most likely to break or stop working), I opted for the 4 year extended warranty. It was also very inexpensive.
Tumblr media
I understand you are getting low on power (or are out of power) sometimes. It happens to the best of us, even when your carefull to try to always charge when given the chance.
I do not understand how it is possible to ALWAYS be in that situation. I mean, you had to charge at some point, to be abel to get to the point where you are “running out” or “ran out” of power right? So how come it’s never quiet about having a charging issue?
Furthermore WTF is it with cords? I thougth I had to replace a lot of cords in the past when it was because I was buying cheap cords, was to rough on them, or one of the dogs got pissed off at me about something. I had NO idea how many cords and wall adapters I would need to keep stocked because I would be asked to “borrow one for a little bit” (that I never see again). Not to mention, I had to start stocking types I DON”T EVEN USE in some cases, for someone else’s backup! wow!
With that said, I think the following selections speak for themsevles.
That about wraps it up! You have a lot of flexability in choosing the core system, the accessories, and what accessories you take around with you and when. As well as fairly decent at home work station setup in addition to portability.
One thing I did consider but did not get at this time is a small portable HD projector. The ability to shoot the second monitor of varying size on a wall (or ceiling if laying down), would be handy. Could even get a small portable white screen to go with it. Possible future item if it seems like after time, that would be hugely beneficial.
I told my daughter I am jealous! This is a fantstic setup for a lot of situations. I have archived her order, as if I ever am spending a lot of time travelling on the road again, I would want something similiar for my business.

Auto Insurance Rates Increased for NO Reason?
I was in an accident where the other driver was negligent. However, we both have the same insurance company. Once my lawyer contacted them, 2 weeks later my bimonthly bill went up about $15 (over $30/month). Best way to file claim for Allstate home owner's insurance?
My husband and I have minor storm damage to the roof over our master bedroom. And now water has managed to get into the wall and is making the sheet rock bubble up, as well as causing cracks in the ceiling in that one particular spot. Insurance agent won't write the homeowner's coverage she wants?
My fiance owns an old home in northern Ohio and was paying over $1,300 a year for homeowner's insurance until last year. She can't afford over $100 a month in premiums so I looked into trying to get a lower rate. All three agents that I contacted about the matter assumed a replacement cost for her house of around $157,000 which resulted in premiums of exactly what she had last year. The very idea of insuring her house for $157,000 is absurd for two reasons. The first is that I personally built a house in an upscale neighborhood which was almost three times as large and also had an attached garage. I sold that home for around $150,000 and made about $40,000 profit. The second reason that $157,000 is absurd is that any day of the week you can buy a much better house in the neighborhood for less than $60,000. I was able to find a lower rate of around $600 a year through the Ohio Fair Plan website by assuming a realistic replacement cost of $60,000 and not including such things as jewelry coverage (she has no valuable jewelry), and other coverages that don't make sense. Unfortunately, and after contacting several insurance agencies, not a one will write the coverage as specified. The gave me the flimsiest of excuses. It appears to me as if all the insurance companies doing business in our area may have colluded to lock in homeowner insurance rates far higher than is justified. I hope someone out there can tell me if there are laws that require some insurance company to issue a policy as specified by Ohio Fair Plan. Thanks in advance...""

Can I drive without my name on car insurance?
I'm 18 living in California. I am not on my parents insurance because I don't have a job to help pay the monthly fee. I do however drive the car with my parent in the car with me. My mom signed a waiver that said something like My child is not responsible for any damages if in a collision. Basically saying that my mom is taking full responsibility if anything happens to the car wile we are driving. So I guess y question is; Is it illegal to drive without being on the insurance, but an adult who is on the insurance is in the car? In other words can I still drive with a parent whose name is on the insurance, even though my name isn't? I apologize if this sounds confusing.""

Hint: I will get my car when I am 17 so roughly how much will it be annually/monthly? The most sensible and reliable answer gets 10 points for best answer.

What states don't require auto insurance?
As a young driver auto insurance is way to expensive. Since I drive a Mercedes most quote me at thousands of dollars a year. More than what I can afford. I know some states don't require car insurance if you can prove you have the financial means to pay out if you cause an accident. I need a list of those states that don't require auto insurance if you can prove you can afford to pay out. On top of this question how do I prove I can afford it. Do I need to keep a minimum amount of money in a bank account or do I have to buy a bond how does it work. And if it works with a bond or bank account please list the states with the minimum $ you need in bonds or account money. The reason Im asking is that I can easily get a minimum amount in my account (hopefully under $10,000) because id rather have $10,000 sitting in a bank I cant use than having to pay thousands a year for insurance I don't need. I been driving for 3 years and I never had an accident and im confident I never will (at least not one that's my fault) so I don't wanna waste thousands of dollars I need for my school. The reason Im asking is cause im looking for a state that suits me. So far Vermont and new Hampshire have laws to my liking but hopefully you guys can give me more possibilities by answering this question. Thanks""

Car accident and they got old insurance.?
I got in a car accident last November and they tried to hit me with 6 duis with no evidence. We got the FDLC results 6 MONTHS LATER, and it came up with nothing. I have no idea what they had to charge me with 6 DUIs, however... It was reduced to reckless driving. Anyways, when I got in the accident, I left in an ambulance. The police gave out the wrong car insurance (I had just got statefarm the day before.) They gave like esurance to everyone, which was the WRONG insurance. So, I ended up having to tell the hospitals etc that they gave out the wrong insurance. Then I got a call from one of the people I hit's insurance, and they queried about what insurance I had (They said the policy they were given expired in like 08.)... Part of the deal of reckless driving is that I pay restitution. My lawyer is unaware that the police gave out the wrong insurance, but he told me that there should be like nothing (insurance should cover all of it.) I just got a letter in the mail yesterday saying that I owe 2500 to some person. Is it possible that he was given the wrong insurance as well, thus me getting charged for this?""

Is it normal for Car Insurance rates vary so much.?
I'm thinking of buying my buddy's 92 corolla wagon and have been looking around for insurance prices. Progressive is the cheapest so far at $124 a month for liability. All other companies have been double. Geico is the most expensive at $278 per month. I'm a 20 year old male with a clean driving record. I just got my license and i've had my permit for a couple years and never got any tickets or anything. i have also taken drivers Ed. I qualify for the good student discount. Anyways my question is, is it normal for it to vary so dramatically. All these prices were for just the minimum state required insurance. Also does anyone know of a cheap alternative. I even tried the general and they wanted $248 per month.""
Car Rental USA Insurance?
I am getting really annoyed with trying to get a quote for car rental in USA. For basic rental I have been quoted $200. But then there are all the insurances: Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) Supplemental Liability Insurance (SLI) Personal Accident and Effects (PAE) What do I actually need to have as they are really expensive!!! Adding just the first two takes my rental up to $500. I am very confused. What legally do I have to have? Someone told me the US insurance is strange cos you can get sued for an accident and end up paying thousands of dollars out to the person you hit. Can I transfer car title into my name without having insurance if car will not be driven immediately?
I recently bought a used car from a private seller that was in running & driving condition, but just short of getting it home, I hit a pretty big pothole and the catalytic converter broke where it connects to the exhaust header due to age & lots of rust from 15 yrs of Michigan winters. Since I am short of funds to get that fixed (not sure how much it will cost), I am faced with a dilemma. I bought the car with the intention of using it as my daily driver over winter. I have not gotten plates or insurance on the car, and I have not transferred the title into my name yet. My question is, since the car will be sitting in my garage for a couple months (at the most), can I just pay to transfer the title into my name without having to pay to get insurance on it or a license plate for it? I'm not sure when I'll be able to fix it since they are expensive to replace. So the car will be sitting, and I may even part it out or sell it as is to make my money back, I'm not quite sure yet. It would be a waste of money to get insurance and a plate for it if it's just going to be sitting unseen in my garage. Can I just transfer the title so that it will be mine legally without the insurance / plate if the car will not be driven immediately? This is in Michigan. ** Please no sarcastic replies, I would like an answer from someone who knows for sure. I don't need replies from people who are just talking out of their *** lol !! Thanks!! **""

Car insurance 17 year old?
I just passed my test afew days ago and have been looking at insurance. Most insurers won't give me a quote and if they do it's 19k. But i was looking into classic car insurance for a mini and got a quote from adrianflux for 3500 but i was i told i was to young for classic car insurance. I tryed a 1000cc yaris and they would not even quote me. I checked my details twice and there all right. I asked over the phone why there is such a change im price when they have the same size engine and he just said there cheaper to repair n that . and just so it's clear the minii quote was not classic car insurance. So any one know the logic behind this? + any other suggestions about insurance will help.
Financed a car- car insurance went WAY up?
My husband and I recently sold our old car and financed a used low mile 2007 ford fusion. Our car insurance previously was around 60 dollars a month, now it's over $200.00. The reason our rate increased was our finance company requires certain insurance (comprehensive and collision) that we didn't have before. My question is, do we have to keep this insurance on the car throughout the financing period? They sprang this little tidbit on us right before we signed. We tried to get financing three weeks ago and suceeded, but the person working with us went out sick with swine flu and no one from the bank let us know. We ended up calling last week and they put us with someone else/ It put us in a time crunch since my husband was leaving for Naval OCS the next day. If we have to pay it, it's not a big deal, but we're a young couple and it's money we could be putting towards our student loans.""

Auto Insurance & Road Service Question?
Hi there, Thank you in advance for helping out! I want to know your advice and recommendation on which company to receive my auto insurance/road service from, and what sort of coverage is recommended. I have been with AAA my whole life because my father advocates highly for them so I have trusted his judgment and experience. But I think they may be ripping me off. I am a 27 year old single female with a good driving record (last accident was back in spring 2005 I believe). Yet, every single year they seem to increase my monthly payment by ~$10 and now I'm paying $118.25/month! Are they that superior a company that it is worth paying this and should I try to negotiate with them, or is it worth looking into some other companies such as Geico, State Farm, Progressive, etc. Ive been receiving invites from them for years and Liberty Mutual supposedly has some college alumni offer for me and claim to be ~$340 cheaper than 21st Century, Allstate, and Mercurybut I never trust ads anymore. I only believe concrete statistical comparison data. Also, my dad said road service is completely separate from auto insurance (although AAA handles both) and I pay $52/year to be part of his joint plan as a AAA Plus Dues - Associate. He said he believes this covers 6 visits/year, 100 miles, is the most basic plan, and he only got it because hes been with AAA for 30 years. Could I get a better deal elsewhere or is this fair enough to stick with? At the end of the day, I want decent coverage for the best price available. Im saving for a down payment on a home and have to scrape pennies from anywhere I can, but still do not want to be stranded at the time of an accident. I got some quotes online that were considerably cheaper, but if Im going to be screwed, then are the savings worthwhile? ============================================= As needed, here are details on my car and policy (please tell me which are unnecessary or should be edited): - Honda 2008 Civic LX 4-door sedan - Miles commute USED to be 50 miles one way ~3 days a week, but now I work from home every single day; Notes in Policy say: Prior and Future Annual Mi: 8,000 (22mi per day, so I wonder if they even counted my prior commute in this). - Policy has me down as a student, not sure why, been a full-time professional since Jan 2008 and now make 65K - Bodily Injury: Liability Limits Each person 50K; Liability Limits Each Occurrence 100K; Premium: $193 - Medical Payments: No coverage - Uninsured Motorists: Liability Limits Each person 50K; Liability Limits Each Occurrence 100K; Premium: $78 - Property Damage: Liability Limits Each Occurrence 50K; Premium: $192 - Comprehensive: Actual Cash Value Less Deductible; 100 Deductible; Premium: $242 - Collision: Actual Cash Value Less Deductible; 100 Deductible; Premium: $650 - Enhanced Transportation Expense: Premium: $28 - All Risks: Actual Cash Value Less Deductible; No coverage - Total Premium Per Vehicle (1 vehicle): $1,383 - Auto Death Benefits: 15K/driver listed with ADB coverage above - DSR (Driving Safety Record): 1 Pt - YDE (Years Driving Experience): 12 started at 18, Im 27so the actual is 9, but Ill take it. - Discounts: None except Good Driver(s): Items 01 and 01 is my Honda, so I guess this means Im a good driver (dont know why the price doesnt reflect it!) - Live in Berkeley, CA (zip code 94708) but am listed as Lafayette, CA (94549)  how do I check which zip is less money? Is it possible to get very short term car insurance?
My grandfather passed away about a month ago and i inherited his car. I've driven it for a few weeks planning on switching my insurance from one car to another. I have decided I want to insure both cars because no I plan on selling and or trading in both of them. My question is: 1) will my grandfathers old car stay insured until the end of his insurance period? (silly question which I'm sure is a no.) but mostly 2) is there any short term insurance that would last about one month at the most? Is the maintenance/insurance costs on a 1998 Porsche Boxster expensive? Is it more expensive than a Corolla?
Would my maintenance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? Would my insurance costs go way up if I trade in my 2000 Toyota Corolla for a 1998 Porsche Boxster? I only have an additional $1000 per year to pay for any additional costs, would this be enough to cover the extra insurance and maintenance costs of an old used Porsche Boxster, one that seems to need quite a lot of mechanical work done at a Porsche dealer, compared to my old and flawless Toyota Corolla? Are Porsche dealers really expensive or is that just a myth? I drive a 2000 Toyota Corolla and over the years I change my own oils, my own fluids, and have only taken it in twice for tire alignments, that's it. The costs are extremely low. Now I see a 1998 Porsche Boxster for sale, with a slightly leaky engine and a Balking automatic transmission for sale. I would like to have fun and buy it, but I cannot afford any more than about $1000 per year in maintenance costs. Also, my insurance on the Corolla is dirt cheap, and I don't want to pay that much more when I get the Boxster, i don't want any surprises. What do you think? For a person with very limited resources, Should I keep my trusty old Corolla, or get the Boxster?""
Will I be covered by my parents auto insurance for an accident if im not on the policy?
I was in a car accident last night while driving my parents insured car. I, however, am not on the policy. I am 23 and live in my parents household. I have my own seperate insurance for my vehicle, which I was not driving due mechanical issues. This is the only time I have driven my parents car. Will either my parents or my car insurance cover the accident? This is what happened: I hit a car who made a left in front of me while driving through an intersection. The light was green, I had the right of way. When the police arrived the individual whom I hit admitted he had been drinking and was a marijuana user. The police arrested him and towed his car. The officer disclosed that the individual did not show proof of insurance. Also, there was a witness (the driver in the car behind me) who pulled over to check on us. He had told the officers what happened which verified my explanation of the event. I live in California, if that helps. If anyone has any advice for this scenario, please advise me on how I should proceed as I have never been in this situation. Thank you""

Our Best Standing Desk Picks for 2018
There are several options and features we assessed when picking the best standing desk in 2018 for our top five comparison. The staff at Gadget Review have all made the switch because we love the standing desk benefits, as it can help you burn calories, improve your posture, and help your focus during tasks where your mind might start to wander. Jump to: Compare the best standing desk features side-by-side. These factors in mind, it's no wonder why the Jarvis Bamboo standing desk from Fully hit the top of our list with ease. Thanks to its solid build quality, electronic console with preset height options, and overall durability in all use cases, whether you're curious about the standing desk revolution or a veteran in the space, the Jarvis is the choice for you.
Top Standing Desks Reviews
How We Choose the Best Standing Desk
When choosing the top standing desks for this list, we considered a variety of models, features, and prices to fit anyone's budget. First and foremost, it's important to know there are several different styles of standing desk that can either "stand" on their own (pardon the pun), or can act as an attachment to your preexisting desk to impart additional functionality on top. Standalone standing desks (last one) are desks that can transition between standing or sitting positions, using either a motor or a pneumatic handle to shift from one mode to the next. Whether or not a desk was motorized was an important consideration, because the last thing you want to be doing while you're at work is awkwardly trying to jack a desk into position while all your co-workers look on in pity. Related: Actio Standing Desk Review Next, there's the build quality of the desk itself. This includes various factors such as what materials both the top of the desk and the frame are made of (bamboo and aluminum generally do the job without driving up costs), as well as the sturdiness and overall stability of the desk at various heights. One of the most annoying things about poorly made standing desks is a desk that won't stop wobbling at full height, and while there's no specific metric to measure the "wobbliness" scale of a product, all the picks on this list have been rated by users and reviewers as being extremely stable in any configuration. Finally, there's the overall durability of the ulimate standing desks, and how that relates to price. As we mentioned in the previous section, cheaper materials like bamboo can also take quite a beating if treated with the proper after-coatings, and won't cost you an arm and a leg while lasting years at a time. Given that most standing desks (and even standing desk add-ons) are designed to last at least five years (optimally around 10), you'll want to make sure your desk can withstand the abuses and rigors of desk work without denting or warping in the first few months of ownership or less.
Why You Should Buy a New Standing Desk
While the actual health benefits of a standing desk are still hotly contested by scientists and doctors alike, there's no arguing that standing while you work is a good way to get the blood flowing. As someone who has suffered from lower back pain since a tailbone injury at age 14, I know when something is helping or when it hurts because I'll feel it sooner and more harshly than most. Personally I find that whenever I have a task that I need to focus on for long periods of time, standing through half or more of it will keep me more attentive, and give my restless legs a chance to stretch out. It also helps to alleviate some of the strain that my incessant slouching habit puts on my back, shoulders and hips - a pleasure that few desk workers get unless they're getting up to go to the bathroom or grab a snack. Related: Duke Adjustable Standing Desk Review But how to stand at a standing desk is also key, as you should keep your keyboard and mouse at a 90° angle while standing (as doctor's recommend) so you can improve your standing desk posture while also burning far more calories than you would by sitting down. Depending on your build, it's said that the average office worker can burn around 50 extra calories an hour while working from a standing position, which can really start to add up if you're standing for more than three hours a day, five days a week. In short; if you're someone who's wondering how often you should stand up from your desk and wants to improve their posture, burn some calories, and improve their overall focus on specific tasks - then a new standing desk might be in the cards for you.
Fully Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk - Editor's Choice/Best Looking Standing Desk
Price: $455 - $753 | Read Full Review: Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk Review | Motorized: Yes | Height Range: 26.5" - 45.75" Spend any amount of time researching standing desks on the internet, and pretty much every site that covers the subject will tell you the same thing: the Jarvis Bamboo Standing Desk from Fully is undoubtedly one of (if not the) best of the bunch. With an extensive number of add-ons, extra features, and durability to boot, it's hard to find anything that this desk gets wrong. From its programmable microcontroller to the lush bamboo surface, this desk really deserves a "standing" ovation (and I promise that's officially the last standing-related pun of this writeup). Probably one of the most unique features that sets the Jarvis apart from the competition is the option to add powered grommets to each side of the desk, which can make it easier for users who don't have a ton of cable length to spare to make it to standing height without their monitor and accessories getting tugged off the side and falling to the floor. When I reviewed the Jarvis last year I was blown away by how much weight it could lift (a claimed 350lbs), while remaining incredibly stable at just about any height. Although I'm not the tallest person around at 6'0, I was still able to comfortably use the Jarvis in most use scenarios without much knee or leg pain (thanks in due part to the Imprint CumulusPRO standing mat), and the desk was rock solid when propped up against a wall during mellow typing workdays and frantic gaming sessions alike. The Jarvis Bamboo really is the epitome of what people mean when they talk about the "complete package", and whether you're on your first standing desk or your fifth, there's no doubt the Jarvis is a perfect match for you at home, at work, or anywhere else in between.
StandDesk Stand Up Desk - Best Budget Standing Desk
Price: $559 | Motorized: Yes | Height Range: 29" - 45" The StandDesk is a minimalistic option, and the top standing desk if you want something without too many extra frills or a high cost out of pocket. Sure you still get a few choices between colors and there are several optional accessories, including a power strip and standing mat, but the real focus here is made to be on simplicity first.
Make sure to use $50SHARE3 to save $50 on your order
The materials may not be as high-end as some other desks, but you get what you pay for when you're shopping on a budget. The StandDesk is now slightly more expensive than the Jarvis at its most basic, but comes with a few extra features that would leave you with a $629 pricetag if you were to only shop with Fully.
UpDesk UpWrite Standing Desk - Best Sit Stand Desk
Price: $890 - $1,040 (model dependent) | Motorized: Yes | Height Range: 23.5" - 49.5" The UpDesk UpWrite also gets a lot of points for simplicity and a minimalistic design that keeps the price low compared to NextDesk and similarly pricey standing desks. However, it also picks up a few points for style, since this is one of the few standing desks to features a curved, modern surface that branches away from the boring rectangles of other desks and can also serve as a whiteboard. This can make it ideal if you like to sit closer to your monitor or keyboard, or if you're more comfortable when your mouse is held off to your right instead of directly in front of your wrist. The only drawback here is that while it also offers electrical adjustment for different heights and some cable management options, there are very few extra features to speak of otherwise.
Focal Locus Stand Up Desk - Best Adjustable Standing Desk
Price: $1,497 | Motorized: Yes | Height Range: 24" - 50.5" This is a standing desk design that's made more for the artist, someone who needs some room and light to shine directly on their desk at specific angles, as well as the ability to work in the digital world. Sure, you can put a laptop up on its slanted surface, which can slant up to 15°, but an extra platform is also available for larger monitors. The desk also includes a hand crank to change positions, a handy hole for cords or cups, and cable management clips. It is designed to work perfectly with the Locus Seat, which allows you to sit in a standing position - in effect is helps stretch your hip flexors without the fatigue of standing, thus reducing lower back issues the same way standing might.
VariDesk Pro Plus 36 - Sit and Stand Desk Converter
Price: $395 | Motorized: No | Height Range: 24" - 50.5" This is another add-on standing desk option, with a curious design that made to latch onto the corner of a desk and move between a sitting and standing position at will. It does this through a The idea is that if you want to spend some of the workday sitting, and some of it standing, you can switch between the two states in an instant. The adjustment points of the monitor stand are particularly handy, allowing for a variety of set-ups and multiple monitor screens if required. You can also adjust the flexible keyboard stand to whatever height and angle you want, providing a lot of welcome customization to your working stance you won't find in any other model on this list.
Standing Desk Key Factors to Consider
Durability
This probably goes without saying, but you'll want a durable standing desk.  One that is made of high end materials like bamboo or walnut wood.
That in mind, you'll want a standing desk that is sturdy on its feet and won't easily sway when knocked into or when leaned on.  All of our picks are sturdy and built to last the test of time.  Plus most of them have excellent warranties to boot, just in case anything goes wrong.
Motorized vs. Pneumatic vs. Hand-Crank
Personal preferences aside, ultimately which style of powered or non-powered standing desk that's right for you will come down to how often you switch between sitting and standing per day.
Pneumatic and motorized desks make it simple to make the transition, but can also be quite a bit more costly than hand-crank versions.
That said, hand-crank desks can also run into issues with stability and durability if you aren't extra careful with them every time you switch, which can be a pain if you find yourself doing it often.
Grommets/Cable Management
This may not sound like a huge deal, but when using standing desks how the cables are managed can become a bigger issue than you think.
Options like the desk on this list, the Jarvis, offer two different grommet styles: standard holes that feed down to your computer, or powered/USB grommets which actually act as an extension cord to be sure you don't get tangled up.
Be sure to measure the length of all your monitor cables, keyboard cables, and mouse cable before buying a standing desk to be sure they'll all reach your desktop or laptop when the desk is fully extended to standing height.
Ease of Use
Now, I prefer the electric motors, simply because it makes switching between sittings and standing.  But if you're die hard, you'll opt for a manual standing desk, only because it force you to be more active by cranking a handle to go back and forth.
In effect, this will cause you to stand longer, though it could make you sit longer because you're reluctant to get up and crank.
All of the above standing desks offers extremely efficient up and down motors, save for one, which is hand crank, the Focal.  And you can buy that with a standing chair for some added scratch - I suggest you take a close look at that accessory if you're considering that desk.
Stability
Stability is of course a very important feature to have on a standing desk, but there's a little more to this than meets the eye.
Say for example you're putting your standing desk directly against a wall. Even at max height, with the help of the wall to support it the wobbliest standing desk will still sit fairly still as long as it's got the flat surface to support it.
That said if you're using a standing desk against a shakier cubicle wall or in the middle of an open office plan,
Mistakes to Avoid
Going Too Cheap: If you go cheap, you'll likely be okay in the short term, but find yourself in need of an upgrade not too long after. Largely because cheaper standing desks don't have the level of sturdiness you need when you're working at full height. There is one cheaper option on this list, but keep in mind most of the savings are there because it's designed to go on top of a desk, which is another cost that will have to be factored into the final price. That said if you already have a desk that's sturdy enough as it is, this might be the most optimal choice for you. Match Your Height: In theory, a 48" max height for the standing desks should be ample for most people, and will be enough for users who measure up to heights of 6' 5". Optimally no matter what height you are, you'll want the desk height to be at a level that doesn't cause you shoulder or arm strain over long work days. This is the 90° angle we talked about earlier, and if your arms are closing in on Frankenstein lurking height, you're doing it wrong. Not Easily Adjustable: It may not seem like a big deal now, but if you have to crank hard to get to a standing height, you'll probably just end up avoiding it altogether. Or if the electronic motor is slow and loud you'll avoid upsetting your office mates, provided you're not working from home.  All of the standing desks above offer fairly quiet and smooth operation, whether crank, hydraulic, or motor-driven.
What Else You Should Think About
There are clearly many standing desk benefits, but make sure you follow this standing desk guide on how to use it properly. And while our list of best standing desks is helpful, you might want to also read our standing desk reviews as well learn about some of the features to look for in a standing desk. Lastly, you'll want to also take a look at our list of standing desk mats to be sure you get the most comfortable surfaces to stand on as possible. These mats can reduce overall fatigue and keep you standing well beyond the normal limit that your co-workers might hit, and will also prevent you from wearing down your knees or straining your back as you might if you were standing on hardwood or carpet alone.

The Dream Requires Good People
Sup folks, it’s been a pretty normal week I guess and despite a few minor hold ups. I’m in the mood to create and write. I have so much work to do ahead of me that I hope to get finished this next week or so that no matter how productive I am, it never seems to be enough. But I’ll say more about that after the main blog post. Let’s dive right in.
So the Gamer dream is the idea of having all consoles; Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo and PC to all play games together without limitation. The Gamer Dream is also to have a group of tightly knit friends and community to play games with. A community that is not toxic or full of trolls. The idea is to have a like minded group of people who have a strong bond and relationship with who you can enjoy working together to overcome enemies and various challenges in the gaming world. Now thankfully Microsoft has been slowly bridging the gap between PC and Xbox but sadly Playstation is not in the loop and Nintendo well… they are doing their own thing these days. Of course Microsoft would rather leave Playstation out of it so they have a leg up. Unfortunately money is the main reason why consoles and PC won’t all be compatible together, but that’s not the point I will be leading up to in this post. However to add to this, if we want all players to be able play together equally despite the hardware they are on then I have an idea. On PC every game has setting as to how high or low the graphics quality is. If you have a weaker computer then you turn these settings down and your computer will run it better but the graphics will be worse. If you have a big strong computer then you can have these settings higher or maxed out and the graphics will be as good as the game will allow. But what about really weak computers or lets say a first an Xbox One wants to play a game that would require the power of a supercomputer, not just a gaming computer but a really overkill type of gaming computer? I think games should start coming with the option of a “Low Polygon” style of the game that is fully compatible with the original version. An example of a “Low Polygon” graphic style game would be The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. The reason it was designed with that art style wasn’t because they thought it was better but simply because the Wii U and the Switch can’t handle realistic looking or even high detail graphics on a large open world scale. So the elegant solution was to use the low polygon art style for the graphics. You can also make games that have even less polygons than Breath of the Wild that will still look good. So if all games (or at least most games) came with the option of the low polygon style then my weaker laptop would be able to play more newer games at only the cost of highly detailed graphics. I would like to think we can all agree that graphics don’t make a game and even if we did think that was true, there’s no harm in making another version of the game for weaker hardware. Plus it would open up more jobs because someone would have to reskin the game and maybe even have to rework lighting and some game mechanics in order for it to work well. Anyway that’s  just a thought that would help bring gamers together and help make gaming more affordable which is a complaint for some people.
Anyway let’s get to the point of this post. Gamers all want to play in a comfortable community and make relationships with others who all share the hobby and passion for gaming. This is because gamers feel like they belong in the gaming world more than they do in the real world. Everyone wants to belong somewhere and everyone wants to connect and be friendly with the people in their community not just gamers. With the online world though it’s hard because people can be toxic and act like trolls and be jerks because they are only on a server with you for a short time. People can be like this in real life too. People are rude at restaurants or at stores because they have no obligation to be a good person to the staff or others there because they think it’s no big deal since they won’t see them ever again and if they do, no one will remember who it was. Also the mental health and emotional well being of people in the first world is getting worse and worse creating worse and worse people. Who would rather blame the world around them and take out their anger on them instead of trying to be the best they can be for others and themselves. People also have a tendency to ignore their problems and let them pile up while they try to cope with it in a non-productive and unhealthy way like getting drunk or high. This is causing people to be a huge problem. There is no system that we can put in place to fix people and make us safer or happier in social environments because we, us, the people are the problem. I know people who when someone does something that hurts their feelings in the slightest, they just burn that relationship and try to avoid the problem but it only fills them with anger, bitterness and a pile of grudges which they put so much effort and stress into holding against others. The people make themselves bad friends. By that I mean because they don’t work at making themselves a better person or put themselves out there to learn and they are not willing to take any criticism. This holds them back from growing and learning so they just stay the exact same and never try to be better and this affects both them and everyone around them because they are a crappy person to be around. My sister is like this and it sucks to live in the same house.
Now how do we fix this? How do we convince people into not being ass holes? How do we get them to be open to growing and trying to be the best person they can be, instead of being selfish and just trying to get everything they want as easily as possible? I
I don’t know.
I’ve spent all of my life (at least the parts I can remember) trying to be the best version of me, that I can be. I worked hard to get new skills, be nice to others, not assume the worst in others but still be realistic, I try not to be unrealistically positive or negative. I even went through depression because of many reasons but a big one is watching people, like my family, refuse to be open minded and be considerate because they’d rather sit around and pat themselves on the back by comparing themselves to others that they think they are better than. These types of people don’t become better, they just become bitter to anyone who they are convinced might be better than them and they will spend their conversations trying to convince themselves that they are better. This is all in the name of Pride and Greed. This holds back relationships, it destroys relationships, this makes relationships fake and it ruins our potential for true joy and happiness because we can’t admit that we aren’t perfect…. FUCK people.
I guess that was a bit of a rant eh?! Sorry about that. Anyway the point is we will never have our dream come true if we don’t accept our faults, believe the better in someone and do our best (no matter how hard) to be the best versions of ourselves that we can. Now I know this isn’t easy and for those of you with mental illness I can say from experience it seems to be the hardest thing in the world. Also guys basically just don’t gossip. It’s that simple. It makes up about 90% of conversations and it’s toxic, shallow and not helpful in the slightest. I was/have been depressed for over 4 years and getting out of bed was always a terribly painful experience but I knew that if I wanted to get anywhere in this world and to get there happily and as the great and good person I hope to become. I knew I was going to have to try my hardest no matter how crappy I felt, no matter how worthless or tired or how much pain I was in. I needed to keep a strong moral compass, have good integrity and simply be a good person through and through and not just on social media or to someone’s face but to always be a good person and work hard. My family has done a great job at making me feel worthless and has tried to bring me down and tell me that my moral compass is wrong and has never stopped questioning my worth ethic or integrity but somehow I survived long enough to literally tell them to fuck off. Here I am now with a truly amazing relationship… I have the great honor of being a good person who someone considers to be a great guy because I worked through the pain and unpleasant times to become who I am today and I am proud of who I have become. My girlfriend and even her family all see me for what I have become and they see that through all resistance I have worked hard to grow. My girlfriend seems to think I’m a good and great person, someone who she can imagine spending the rest of her life with. But I didn’t become that person by sleeping around at parties or gossiping at school or ignoring my problems. I didn’t chase many of my human desire for pleasure. I stood my ground with my morals and I learned through reading and church sermons. I have books, Church and God to thank for steering me right. I’m not here to through Jesus stuff at the internet but I would seriously recommend opening up to the idea of Jesus. The catch is though, if you have any questions or doubts, dig deeper and don’t ignore it and let it just sit there. You have to find that answer! It helps enormously. For this I went to a Bible college but honestly it could have easily be replaced by books, internet research and studying my Bible better. Of course when finding info from a source that’s not the Bible I’d suggest double checking that it’s true because you don’t want just anyone speaking into your life about what kind of morals you should have.
Anyway my girlfriend is am amazing young women who has also stood her ground in the face of our immoral world. She has abided by the same morals I have and we have both put our time and effort into being the best we can be for others and those around us, even when it has been hard and costed us.  This outcome has given us the best relationship I have ever seen. I honestly can’t think of a better relationship than ours. We have been only dating for a year and we are young be we are seeking wisdom and guidance from those who know better and from God. Honestly folks when you see posts online about failed relationships that’s because one person in the relationship or even both people in the relationship are trying to put their own wants, needs and desires before the other’s. I would elaborate but I think I will hold off on giving relationship advice for a while longer. I think I need to get wiser first.
So to wrap this up I want to add to when I mentioned at the beginning of this post. I said how much work I have ahead of me and that’s very true. Anyone who has read this blog over the past 6 months or so knows that I have been accumulating ideas for content and stuff for a website that I’m building that will having all of my creations. Whether it’s a simple drawing, blog post, my book, gaming news, gaming blog posts, art, Faith based stuff, comics (in pixel art style) and even a small gaming community that I will run in the later hours of the day... AND even more along with merchandise. I have big hopes and dreams and heck if all is going well I may even be able to get enough ad revenue and donations from anyone who actually finds and likes my content to be able to make a job out of it. It would be a dream come true and it’s a long shot but by using my spare time to the max, it just might be possible. Of course I must start small and slowly add different content as things go on and even if my site doesn’t achieve high hopes it will still act as a great portfolio to any future employers. I want to have my book done and site mostly running on a schedule by the end of spring or sooner. However… I have burned myself out a little bit and need some time to recover from all the work I’ve already done trying to get things done. So I am aiming to have my book finished and ready for close friends to read by march break (or spring break for americans). Then I want to enjoy my march break as much as I can by doing my more low key and enjoyable things. Since everything I will be doing for my website is stuff I enjoy I will still technically be productive but I will certainly let myself get lost into the gaming world and sleep in or whatever. Not working for a deadline but any work I do will be just for kicks. Like a vacation. I won’t be going out with my family to any fancy restaurants to listen to their shallow conversation bull crap, I will be just doing whatever I want and relaxing. I will hopefully be visiting my girlfriend a bunch and hopefully it will be nice and relaxing (sometimes it’s busy when I go there due to helping dumb/poor people or a small child is jumping on my head). Anyway yes, I will be taking a vacation, a free vacation that doesn’t require spending money. I actually wrote a blog post a long time ago talking about how you can get that stress free vacation feeling without the need of a cruise or resort or spending any money. Anyway folks, it’s been fun and I have a great fews days ahead of me. Peace out and be sure to work hard everyday to be the best version of you that you can be. Take my word for it, it’s far more important for you to be a good person then to be a smart one or cool, strong, etc. The world doesn’t need that kind of person, the world needs good people. People who are genuinely good through and through.

Netflix on PlayStation
Netflix, The American On-line On-Demand Video Streaming Big crossed the border into Canada on September twenty second of 2010 looking to capitalize on the largely untapped on-line TV and Movie streaming market.
While Netflix Canada, for the moment, won't offer its flat charge online DVD-video and Blu-ray Disc rental service as in the United States, it's bringing a high quality video streaming service to Canadians...however will or not it's enough to vary the way in which we lease, purchase and watch our favourite TV episodes and Movies?
So what's the verdict?
Once I first heard that Netflix was coming to Canada, I used to be fairly excited. I watch a variety of films, mostly on my laptop after everyone else has gone to bed, and the idea of being able to watch any number of movies on-line at any time for less than the cost of 2 movie leases per 30 days sounded pretty good to me. When Netflix Canada finally did open for business, I was a little upset by the initial evaluations pointing to a limited number of movies and TV episodes and, because of this, put off attempting out their service. I would just about forgotten about it till one night time a few weeks ago when I found myself and not using a film to watch and decided to provide Netflix a shot.
For $7.99 per month for unlimited online TELEVISION and online movies, what did I've to lose? It was an excellent simpler sell once I received to the Netflix Sign In page (www.netflix.ca) to be taught they're providing a 30 day, no obligation, free trial. After making an attempt it out for every week, I have to say that my solely disappointment is that I did not join sooner!
How does Netflix Canada stack up?
Let's discuss their selection first, in order that we can get that out of the way! Netflix Canada presently gives a listing of a tad over 7000 titles, which includes motion pictures in addition to some (emphasis on some) seasons of well-liked TELEVISION reveals. Whereas they do have some fairly new releases, generally, Netflix's film offerings embrace some blockbusters from the last few years, a number of classics (Clint Eastwood, John Wayne) and a healthy mixture of lesser recognized titles.
When compared to the a hundred thousand+ film titles available online to American Netflix subscribers, it's not quite the mammoth selection I hoped for.
Apparently, it all boils all the way down to licensing points and a few authorized pink tape. I assume, however, that Netflix is dedicated to its Netflix Canada subscribers and that they will be adding thousands extra to their catalog because the year unfolds. Simply this past week, they've added several in style TELEVISION series full seasons and I count on (hope) the same will happen on the film entrance.
Personally, I'm not the type to hurry out and lease the newest releases. I prefer to discover and try out completely different movies and watch some outdated favorites time and again (some I've seen 10 occasions or more), for which, Netflix Canada has proven to be a small treasure trove however for many who need to see the most recent releases as they grow to be obtainable, Netflix, not less than in the intervening time, may not be for you. Maybe Pay Per Vu at $four-$7 a shot or your local video retailer continues to be your greatest wager.
If, like myself, you end up renting films several occasions per week or shopping for DVDs every now and then, you owe it to your self to give Netflix Canada a try. At $7.ninety nine per 30 days, I will be saving tons of money on late fees alone and the convenience of not having to expire to the shop is really nice. I've been making an attempt it out for a little over 2 weeks and have watched about 20 films since I first signed up.
What I like about Netflix!
One thing I actually like about Netflix is that it asks you to rate films you've seen and affords up customized recommendations based on your solutions. In actual fact, the whole suggestion system works fairly nicely. I additionally like how nicely motion pictures and TELEVISION exhibits are categorized. At the moment, offerings are sorted amongst 20 genres and numerous sub-genres, which lets you quickly pinpoint what you need to watch.
Documentaries, Motion & Journey, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Romance - it's all there!
Navigation on the Netflix site is easy and intuitive sufficient for anyone to use. There are additionally quite a couple of interactive features that provide up additional information, opinions and bios.
Hovering over alternatives brings up a description and score for each movie. Clicking on a title brings you to a page stuffed with information and opinions from members and critics. I also like that you can click on an actor or director's identify to pull up their bio and an inventory of all their films Netflix currently has in it's catalog.
Up to now I've watched Reservoir Canines, The Eiger Sanction, the very creepy Human Centipede, The Final Rites of Ransom Satisfaction and a few latest releases I had missed once they got here out.
I've also by no means seen Weeds or MadMen, so I am wanting forward to start out watching those someday quickly, as Netflix has a few seasons of those reveals and quite a couple of more.
What about Netflix's On-line Streaming?
That is the place Netflix shines. The system routinely detects your Web bandwidth pace and streams accordingly. Video quality is both DVD-video in full stereo (for connections of 1.5Mbps or higher), better than DVD high quality in full stereo (for connections of 3Mbps or better) and 720 or 1080 HD high quality with stereo or full encompass sound (for connections of 6Mbps or higher).
Netflix's video participant is modern, fast and gives minimized and full display screen viewing modes. Thus far, out of the 20 or so movies I've watched, the participant solely paused once to toggle video high quality to match my Web connection speed and that was whereas watching on my laptop computer via a Wireless G reference to 3 bars. Suffice it to say, in my humble opinion, the quality of video and sound provided is fantastic!
Can I solely watch Netflix on my pc?
Netflix has a number of connection and streaming options. At present, Netflix Canada subscribers can watch on any Windows or Mac Pc, Nintendo Wii - Microsoft XBOX 360 - Sony PS3 gaming consoles, Netflix appropriate LCD - LED - Plasma Televisions, a selection of Netflix suitable Blu-ray players, iPhone - iTouch and Blackberry devices.
imageIf you haven't any of the above apart from a pc, you may still watch your movies in your TELEVISION so long as you are able to connect your pc to it using VGA or HDMI cables. Most newer TVs supply this level of connectivity.
Netflix's present catalog is restricted, particularly the place new releases are concerned, and that could be a deal breaker for a few of you. Aside from that, I can solely say that the service is high notch and I can't think about anybody however die laborious "new launch" junkies who would assume Netflix Canada isn't great comfort and value for the money. Either way, I recommend you sign up to Netflix for a 30 day free trial and resolve for your self!
Netflix was established in 1997, and so they offer the flexibility to lease DVDs online by way of the Internet. I initially joined Netflix in 1999. I was not satisfied with the service and canceled my membership three months later. Quick forward to 2005, and the excitement in my workplace is about Netflix. My co-employees tell me service is great and so they find it irresistible, and I inform them I hated it. I waited about ten days for my first DVD, and I never received any other DVDs.
I used to be a member for three months. I forgot I used to be a member because I by no means obtained any DVDs. My co-workers inform me differently and I decided to try Netflix again. After three years I am still with Netflix, and I have convinced numerous co-employees to hitch, and now I am going to share a couple of of my Netflix Tips with you.
Distribution Center - Having a distribution center close to your private home or mailing deal with will determine how shortly you receive your DVDs. I reside in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Distribution Middle for Hawaii makes use of a Honolulu PO Box. If I put my DVD within the mail on Monday, Netflix will obtain the DVD on Tuesday and ship out a brand new DVD that very same day. This implies I'd obtain my subsequent DVD on Wednesday. That is pretty fast in case you ask me. VITAL: Please pay shut attention to the mailing address on the Netflix return envelope.
Every infrequently a DVD may take some time for supply (I find this true with a number of the older films). Check the return handle! If it isn't out of your local distribution middle, for this reason delivery was delayed. Do NOT ship your DVD again in that envelope. Only use envelopes that have your local distribution heart tackle.
I usually put 2 DVDs in one envelope in order that I've an additional envelope with my native distribution middle deal with to use at a later time. You solely want a couple of extra envelopes as a result of Netflix will at all times send you a return envelope.
Select the Proper Plan - I switch plans all the time, when you select the incorrect plan, you'll be able to easily change it online. I'm at present enrolled within the three at-a-time plan. What number of DVDs can you watch in a single month? In case you common $2 per DVD rental, which plan would be the most effective deal? For example you may watch eight DVDs in a month. That is about $16 utilizing my $2 DVD rental common.
The 3 at-a-time plan is $sixteen.ninety nine and the two at-a-time plan is $13.ninety nine. On this case, the 2 at-a-time plan is a greater deal since you bought $16 price of DVD leases for less than $thirteen.99. I would never select the 1 at-a-time (Limitless) for $8.ninety nine or the 1 at-a-time (2 a month) for $four.ninety nine because in case you use my $2 common, Netflix is getting the higher deal.
Getting New Releases - People all the time complain to me that they by no means can get New Releases from Netflix, but I always get New Releases. You'll have to check this one for your self, however in the event you're in Honolulu, and put your DVDs within the mail on Friday (Saturday and Sunday additionally work, but Friday works greatest for me). Netflix will receive your DVDs on Monday. New films are normally released on Tuesday, however Netflix already has the DVDs prepared for cargo on Monday. Netflix will send out the New Releases on Monday, and I will get them in the mail on Tuesday.
After I first started utilizing Netflix I not often ever acquired any New Releases until I figured this out. I merely returned one DVD on Wednesday, one on Thursday, and one on Friday and waited to see what film on my queue was despatched as Netflix obtained each DVD. So long as the New Launch was at the high of my queue, I might usually get the New Launch delivered on Tuesday. If I missed the first cargo of a New Release, likelihood is I would not get the New Release for a while.
I can lower down the ready time if I miss the primary shipment, by having one open delivery place, and never having something on my queue except for the New Launch. This cuts down on the quantity of DVDs I rent in a month, but when I missed the first shipment of New Releases, this nearly ensures that I will get the New Release on the following cargo. You can simply have New Releases on your queue, but then you definitely wouldn't get your moneys value.
Do you could have any thought what are dad and mom needed to undergo back within the day simply to lease a film? They had to trudge five miles through eight feet of snow to the native video retailer in frigid, under-zero weather. And when they finally arrived there, they solely had a choice of twenty or so movies to choose from, none of which had been new releases. After they rented a video, they needed to hurry dwelling and rapidly watch it as a result of if it wasn't again by 5:00 the following day, they had to pay a late payment that was twice as much as the original rental. And you already know what, they liked it and they appreciated the opportunity to be entertained.
Fortuitously, occasions have changed and it has change into rather a lot simpler for people to benefit from the cinematic arts within the comfort of their own residing rooms. Particularly, the video-rental big Netflix, now a family name across America, has revolutionized the nature by which a person is ready good movies to watch on netflix to hire a movie; providing a web-based service providing limitless leases for one flat month-to-month charge and no late fees. With supply and returns offered by the US Postal Service via pre-stamped envelopes, Netflix has grow to be a cheap, no-brainer for voracious film watchers throughout the nation.
Now, as an enormous movie buff myself, Netflix is simply in regards to the best factor to happen to me since cheese in a can. But after I converse with certain family and friends who are also massive movie lovers and I inform them why they need to be a part of Netflix, they appear hesitant and ask quite a lot of questions. Many appear to be the provide seems to good to be true, while others do not see a problem with the standard method of visiting a video retailer to lease a film. Whatever the cause, I've personally discovered myself having the conversation of why or why not be part of Netflix sufficient instances to recite from memory and write an article.
So here we are, and as a lot as I like Netflix, I'm also fair in my debate and admit that there are some downsides to the web service that individuals teetering on the edge of signing up needs to be privy to. So, with out additional ado, here are my three large pros and cons of using Netflix.

The Achilles Heel of my Mindset
So, this is the third blog I have yet to post, however after watching about a good hour and a half of videos, felt the compelling need to write something about what I was watching.
I've been watching a lot of videos about Overwatch lately.  I got the game not that long ago, however I haven't gotten really good with any single player (or a Main). I do sorta well with some, but others I don't and there are some that I just don't feel like playing because even though I might be good with them, if I am, then everyone will expect me to play that class and I don't like getting pigeon held into being a support class (like a medic). Suffice it to say, I'm not super great.  Reason for this?  Well, first I'm getting older.  I'm a lot older than the majority of these players. I have a full time job, kids, responsibilities and finding time to just sit and binge game is a very rare event for me.  Not really, but it plays well into my second reason.  My broke ass internet.  I try to stay on top of my finances and in doing so, one of the things I do is pay for DSL.  That's right, I said DSL.   I get my internet over a telephone line.  Not cable, no...... t-e-l-e-p-h-o-n-e.  Now, when I don't have anything else in my household using up that connection (I have a smart tv, cell phones, a laptop and a Xbox One that all connect to my wireless), I get an OK connection. But if my son is playing Overwatch on Xbox, my daughter on Roblox and my wife watching Netflix?  I'm probably looking at like a 300+ ping on any game I play.  So, what do I do?  I just don't play and usually take a nap, which screws up my sleeping schedule, hence why my dirty ass is up at 1:39 a.m. writing about video games and shitty internet. Now, by and large, it's not terrible internet, it's not.  It's never given me a slew of problems, it's pretty reliable and for the most part I can watch movies off xbox live, stream shows on Netflix and Hulu, it gets the job done.  But to be top notch while gaming?  Nah.... it's definitely something that hasn't mattered to me in some time.  And to be perfectly frank, it still doesn't.  Doesn't mean I still don't want a better ping to show some of these fools that think I'm trash that it's simply a matter of latency that separates our skill set more than anything else, but it's not something so dire that I need to re-work my finances to make happen. But, that being said, I still envy all these little shitbags out there that make a living off playing a game.  I was a wiz back in the day when it came to QWTF (QuakeWorld Team Fortress).  I used to own college kids on T1 connections in California on my dinky 36.6 modem in Montana.  I would wipe them all over the floor.  Now this was back before voice chatting was even a thing in the world of FPS gaming.  We had to type everything.  So I would type, kill, type some more and be effective as a player.   Then I fell of the face of the gaming world.  I got a girlfriend, moved across the country and had more important things in my life take up my finances than buying a new rig and keeping up with the rest of my "friends".  I honestly think that was the nail in the coffin. For one, I hate voice chat.  I really do.  I don't like talking to strangers.  It's fucking weird.  I don't know you, I don't want to talk to you through voice, even if it's easier, and I don’t want to key my mic just to say something.  I had about a 10 year span where I didn't game or have a PC that could handle gaming.  Then the announcement for TF2 came out.  The sequel to the FPS I was godlike at.  I worked it out with my wife that we could purchase a computer through her employer at the time (they were Dell partners) and they would stipend it out of her check.  I put like a $1,700 dollar rig together, making sure it met the recommend (not minimum) requirements for TF2. I got the computer, I had fast internet (at the time) and they released the game.  And you know what I found out?  I fucking suck at FPS games. I'm just not on the same level as these guys anymore.   That decade of time off did not help matters, nor did the next thing that happened.  The same year I got the rig, same year I got the game was also the same year my son was born.  I'm a dad first.  I wanted to game, so bad, but my son was priority one and that usually meant being up late, losing sleep and doing what I needed to do. I don't hold it against him and never will, but I came to slowly realize I'm just not who I was back when I was 17. And it stinks.  I want to be good again, but still.... kids, responsibilities and shit internet. The wife is thinking of working with me to maybe get good internet (at least so we can all use the internet at the same time without there being such a huge bottleneck in our internal setup), but that's still a ways off.   I have a plan starting next year if we can't make it happen sooner, but I can only tell you, I watch some of these players and I just think, "Shit, I could do that, that fool looks like he's standing still."  And I can only think that's how I must look to a lot of players because on my end, it's a frenzy.  On their end, it's like watching well timed choreography. I guess the point of all this was to simply whine because I have to go to my job in about 6 hours and I could honestly care less about going.  I would much rather put on my music, put on my noise cancelling headset, log into a game and hyperfocus for like 3 hours. No distractions from kids, work, any of that. But that's not the way the world works anymore. And it bums me out.  I play the lottery and never knew why I always have this soul burning desire to win it big, but it finally dawned on me this weekend: I don't want to be responsible anymore.  Not saying I want to drop the ball on things that need to be done, but I don't want to be in charge of all that bullshit that comes with life.  I want someone to cook shit for me, I want someone to do my laundry, I want someone to clean up my house, take my kids/wife places they need/want to go and just let me be a teenager again.  No worries, no real responsibilities, do something because I want to, not because I have to. And that's ultimately what I want.   Yeah, big house, fancy cars, blah blah blah.  Nah, if I had just that one wish, it would be to shuck responsibility for the opportunity to get some individuality back.  To be who I used to be, to try and re-spark my imagination without the nagging fear of "how are we going to pay this?" or "Will we have time to do this?" or "how much will that cost?" I want the freedom to make choices in matters that won't blow back on me and cause a great bit of heartache because we can't afford it or we will lose our way of life because of my choices.  That is why I want to win big money.  I could very easily live in my house the rest of my days, I like my house. I'd fix all the broken shit, but I'd pay it off and not owe anyone anymore so if I wanted to take a trip to a con or go to a concert overseas, I could and wouldn't have to worry about scheduling time off, finding someone to watch my kids, worry about how we'd cover the costs. That's what I want. I want options, I want choices.  I want to experience life because I only get the one and I don't want to suffer through 40 years of labor to MAYBE get to a place where I can retire and, even then, I have to money manage hard because I'm not going to get social security and the like, so my ass only has what I've saved (which is damn near jack shit). I don't want to go to Europe when I'm 65+, I'd like to go now when I can still enjoy it and remember it, cement it in my memory before the ravages of time and old age attempt to rob it from me. It's 2:00 a.m. now, still don't want to go to work. I don't hate work, I just don't want to have to obligate my life to that responsibility because I don't have the means to say "No". To all those who may be teenagers, reading this, (though I doubt there are any): Being a grownup is fun, but it sucks a fat one on a daily basis. Sure, there are things that'll make you happy, but unless you're lucky enough to be financially set enough to do all those extra things in life, you're bound to be a slave to the system much like myself.
