Ok here are my brief thoughts on Mouthwashing. SPOILERS WARNING And mostly negative sorry. Lots of things i liked but i think most ppl have said that stuff already so i wont repeat it

Loved the art direction, really loved the dialogue, I enjoyed the game a lot in the first half. Unfortunately towards the halfway point where it began leaning further into the horror game shit it really started losing me. The gameplay segments where you get chased around by something or other were seriously just horrendously, horrendously badly designed and a lot of the puzzles felt repetitive or inscrutable (Altho keep in mind I'm terrible at solving puzzles/finding shit in video games. When people talk about "yellow paint" I'm 100% who that shit is for)

It wasnt just the gameplay though, I also just wasn't a huge fan of the metaphorical / scary visuals / out-of-body experience stuff. I felt it slowed down the pace of events and put a barrier between me and the reality of the story being told. It rarely communicated new plot points and ideas and mostly restated information I'd already received verbally in an abstract way. Yes they were visually stunning, very technically impressive, and a few felt genuinely novel and well-placed (the reveal of the mouthwash ad on the TV fucking ruled), but I feel like for the most part those moments were almost obligatorily following modern indie horror game trends. I understand the point of that kind of stuff and it definitely can be effective, but idk i see it so much Im just personally very tired of it unless it really justifies its own existence, and in this case i unfortunately felt it didnt

I also didnt find the sort of "twist" with the main character very compelling and the more extreme his actions became the more I became disappointed. Like once you start getting a guy feeding another dude his own leg at a table with a bunch of dead ppl set on chairs with party hats on (even if its intended to be metaphorical) you have killed my suspension of disbelief. Especially since the character work at the beginning of the game felt a lot more grounded it was just like really. I get its horror but thats trite as fuck sorry.

A lot of this comes down to personal preference but if it were me Id have pared down the gameplay so its more towards the visual novel direction and made the scenario and character behaviors toward the end more grounded/real world so the horror comes more from the Real Fucked Up And Horrible Shit That Is Actually Happening, not the abstraction of it. I really found the character dialogue so much more compelling, original, and better at communicating ideas than the metaphorical visuals, so just own that instead. Like i personally wouldnt have had much of this stuff or any at all but again, definitely personal preference, so if it we're going middle ground -- horror visuals can still exist in some form, but i think would be better as a backdrop that fades in and out rather than being something that, in order to experience, you have to totally disengage with the story at hand for long stretches

Another thing I felt and like, sorry this is pretty mean, but as much as people praise the story it really isn't doing much of anything new or different. It's largely well-executed, but as far as sci-fi and horror goes, it's really quite generic. A well-put together combination of a handful of movies and games and whatnot, but rarely much more than the sum of its parts. The moments where it went beyond that were in the very real-life themes and the character work, which again got lost little by little due to its increasing insistence on being an indie horror game. The point for me isn't that everything has to be totally original and not at all contrived, like familiar ideas being well executed can be really really powerful, its more that with all the issues there were i didnt feel the story was strong enough to completely redeem it

Also slowly dawned on me that Anya is pretty much just shelley duvall and it started bothering me like i couldnt stop seeing it

+ I found the writing kind of misogynist. Anya isnt a bad character but if you look at all the individual points of her character its like wow you had to have the singular woman in the cast have literally all of those traits and all of those things happen to her? Its very like 1980s male auteur movie director type shit. And if the shelley duvall thing wasnt a total coincidence that like, especially does not put a good taste in my mouth

ive been manifesting something important for months now and it hasn't conformed yet. im trying my best to live in my 4d and i feel so fulfilled in the beginning of the day until the day passes by and i start to notice all the time thats passed and get anxious that it never will manifest. i know im self sabotaging by noticing that it hasnt materialized yet but i dont know how to stop getting in my own way

i totally get that! i went through the same thing when i first started manifesting. id start every day in a good mood and motivated but then as hours passed i'd just be like :( ugh. and it'd get hard not to think about the lack or how much longer it was going to take.

i think that the most important thing to remember in times like these is that as long as you are shifting back to the wish fulfilled (which remember, takes no feeling or big production) after you notice you've fallen out, you'll be okay. you can fall out of the state 100 times a day, and as long as you shift back 101 times, you are good! i know doubting and/or wondering if it'll ever manifest can be really annoying and just not fun things to think about, but i think what really helped me was knowing that when i found myself dwelling on thoughts like these, it wasn't the end of the world and it wouldn't ruin things. you just have to remind yourself that's not who you want to be anymore, that's not the story you want to identify with, and that you're choosing better for yourself.

it also really helps me to distract myself. even now when i cannot stop thinking about something im manifesting, i make myself do something that i know will take up my attention, such as reading, watching a show or youtube, or playing a game and listening to music. this really helps me when im feeling anxious because it calms me down and gives me something else to think about and pay attention to!

Eva can tell you that at least~ On the surface she was dressed up in quite the thick set of coats...but that was just a feign! Grace - "A pink bunny suit!!! Honestly, expected given the hat (if a bit on the plain side), but she really makes it work!! After all, what better than a dirty-talking Aussie woman shouting at you to throw her tips while she poles poles dances for you!! The viewers just eat those sort of things up!! 3/5!"

Ingrid - "I will forever respect Ingrid's dedication to the bit. Sure, her attire was just too darn short and exposed everything from minute one. Sure, she was a bit too rough in her movements and had top & sleeves midway through. Sure, her attempts at making ketchup art on eggs just...had her put too much force into it...but darn she tried and that's what matters!! 1/5"

Mara - "Our resident silent, but sexy girl!! She might not express it much, but I think she really loved dressing up even more than the others. Her ninja outfit had quite the incredible hip vents, that sarashi showed juuuust enough cleavage to it, and can appreciate the full-on face mask given her usual style. Also helps she brought an actual katana with her as well!! Props for her for doing her best!! 4/5"

Toshiko - "Stunning!!! She was a flamenco dancer with quite the moves to back herself up...and, well, back 'it' up as well~ Yeah, you can bet your own booty that Toshiko was shaking her's, and with her curvy hips going into overdrive, it was a performance that really highlighted that she knew her stuff. 4/5"

Wenona - "Money can't buy you happiness, but it sure as Hell can buy you a good berserker outfit. Fur capes, boots and, God that fur bikini was stunning!! It really highlight how goddamn beautiful this rich bitch was and it wasn't as if she neglecting the 'brutal' side of a berserker as well. I am genderfluid (they/them) and bisexual. I have short curly black hair with brown/hazel (idk I've been told I have both?) eyes. I'm pale, 5'3 and on the more chubby side. I wear glasses because I'm blind and can't see shit.

I have dyslexia and probably autism but I haven't got tested so Idk. Math has always been very hard for me to understand it in do great in subjects like history.

I am very introverted and tend to avoid social interactions, and I tend to be very judgemental and once I don't like you, I don't like you and will probably never like you. I can be spiteful but id never be outwardly rude of shit talk someone because I tend to freeze up during confrontation but I don't let anyone walk on me, i stand my ground and pick my battles wisely. Im very quiet and have been told I am a great listener and would make a good therapist. While in school I would go weeks without saying a single word but then when I got home it was like I couldn't shut up. Speaking in a public setting is genuinely terrifying to me and it feels like my mouth and glued shut whenever I try to. I am very connected to the environment and its creatures, and feel like I'm able to trust and get along with other animals better then I am people. My one big goal in life is to start a farm/animal rescue. Some of my favorite animals are alligators and crocodiles, and I could probably spill facts about them for hours if someone let me. I tend to be very protective of my things and schedule and get upset when people disrupt or move things. I have a spot for everything and if something isn't in it's spot or gets rearranged somewhere else I get anxious. I collect a lot of things and grow attached to them quickly. I am immensely independent because I am afraid of asking for help. I know exactly what i want and what i need, and I'll manage to do anything to get it. Humor and laughter is a key part of me and what i seek in life. But also trust and loyalty, those are all qualities i possess and seek in others. I tend to overthink sometimes and get paranoid about people leaving me.

My hobbies include art, I like to draw silly little doodles of things. video games, two or my favorite games are doom and silent hill 2. And I enjoyed caring for and spending time with my pets, which I have a lot of. 4 dog, 3 cats, 4 betta fish, 8 chickens, a wild turtle that lives in my backyard, and a bearded dragon. Im planning on getting a Jacksons chameleon and some goats when I have the space.
