DPXDC prompt: Friendly neighborhood forensic pathologist Danny Fenton is a new master of The Court of Owls? (Dead on main, of course) +Part 2: Talon Dick
Don’t underestimate what a ghost will do for a higher education. You see, it's the custom of the Fenton family not to run away from things they are afraid of but to face their fear. So Danny Fenton, who has learned to fear scalpels, steel clamps and surgical retractors, decides to do something about it and to dedicate his life to giving souls of those who died a violent death the final rest and justice they deserve.
Well, it didn’t really come to him at once. It started out as a simple joke:
Danny didn’t think he could continue his education after school. Frankly, his grades suck. However, Tucker for fun applied for a scholarship for gifted villains from Gotham University on his behalf.
And hell, they are willing to pay money for his education. Pay in full! Living in Park Row is also incredibly cheap. And with his flying ability, he’ll also save on transportation.
Danny is not a villain. And he’s not planning on becoming one. But he couldn’t lose that chance.
Why do you deserve this scholarship? “My parents are renowned ecto scientists, and I’ve seen their dissection work at its best. Medical school is expensive, and this scholarship will help me accomplish my goal of becoming a forensic pathologist and helping maintain the boundary between the world of the living and the world of the dead…or use it for my own ends. Of course.”
Well, Mr Two-Face was fully confident that despite his grades in the subjects, Danny was fully committed to achieving high academic achievement. Finally, work experience of Dan came in handy somewhere.
There were only few things about the death that Danny didn’t find on his own or from his ghost friends, so he managed to graduate in record time. Young Fenton thought he was lucky enough to get a job near Crime Alley. It was odd that the job was available. Even a new specialist like him was allowed to work full-time. And the salary was very decent.
~~~~~~
Danny: Yes, Jazz, everything is just fine. I found a great job and I’m trying to relax and find a hobby, you know. Started feeding the local birds. Apparently they were abused, the poor things are so shy and aggressive.
The local birds:
Let’s say that a returned Jason as undead cannot be killed for forever. The stab wounds heal quickly, the bullet holes sometimes itch unpleasantly for a few days, but in general his regeneration is at a level with some metahumans. This is convenient. But when Red Hood wakes up in the morgue after a particularly severe injury, he’s not happy. Sometimes even looking in the mirror at his dissection scar is difficult for him. And this situation is a fucking nightmare. Danny: Oh. Are you awake now? I’m sorry I didn’t have time to put you on the couch, I didn’t have clean sheets and my assistant would have killed me because of the new stains. Red Hood: What the hell? I’m sorry?! It’s fucked up! I’d love to see you wake up on the dissection table. Danny: Been there Done that. But hey, I didn’t put you there. You didn’t get here on my shift, give me a break.
Jason: …So, what's now? Danny: Well, I can offer you tea or coffee. Of course, only after I sew up the hole in your stomach and give you a change of clothes. Or I could go after the documents and pretend I didn’t notice one of my bodies got away. But then don’t dream about novocaine blockade. Pretty liver by the way, you don’t see that much in crime lords. Jason: Um, thank you? But you’re weird. Usually people are praised for the beauty of the face or eyes rather than… Danny: Wow, now I feel attacked.You wake up in your helmet. I can’t compliment what I can’t see. Jason: Gee, I’m surprised your colleague hasn’t taken it off yet. Danny: And lose important evidence? It is not customary for us to put curiosity above professionalism.
~~~~~
Jason learns quickly that although Batman is willing to go anywhere to track him, there are always exceptions to the rule. The morgue was one of them. Not surprisingly, the emotional constipation and uncomfortable theme of Jason’s death worked like a perfect bat repeller. Over time, Jason becomes really interested in a guy who genuinely laughs at his death jokes and listens to his problems at work without judgment. Danny is too cute and nice.
Danny*works*: No visitors allowed here.
Jason: Unless you are a zombie, right?
Danny:...Still not one of your hideouts. The book is where you left it, make some tea if you want it.
~~~~~
Jason, once again delivered without a sign of life to Danny after the fight, woke up during pupillary reflex test.
Jason: Oh, beauty, you are just dazzling today.
Danny: As I thought, your regeneration didn’t cure your concussion before your resurrection. I’ll give you referrals for all the tests and examinations. And we really should stop seeing each other like this. Please take care of yourself.
Jason: I don’t think you have the right to prescribe them to me. Danny: Technically I do not. But we live in Gotham. And for some time the hospital where I work at night is very sensitive to my requests.
Red Hood: And why? Danny: It’s hard to explain… Red Hood: Doctor Handsome, I’ve been through some shit, so try to surprise me. Danny: Okay, okay. Look, you are a crime lord for not too long, right? But criminals and cops are afraid of you and kids and your henchmen really likes you. Jason: ..So what? Danny: Can you please recommend how to maintain a reputation but so your people aren’t afraid of you? Jason: Why do you need this information? Your assistant finally realized you’re friends with walking corpses? Danny: It’s not about that! Although, like.. you aren’t wrong? It’s complicated. I may, well, accidentally, honestly, have seized power over a local secret aristocratic criminal society.
Jason: Baby, please tell me everything. I have a restaurant as a front for a business nearby. It’s a date. Let's go. Danny: Let me finish a few stitches first, Jay.
~~~~~
Red Hood and Red Robin fight near Batman: Hood: Replacement was on patrol without permission! Red Robin: And Jason is dating the new owner of Court of Owls! Batman:.. he's doing WHAT? Jason, how could you take such a risk? it is completely unprofessional and Red Hood: At least he loves me for what’s inside me! Red Robin: Yeah, like a beautiful liver. It’s a great relationship base. Red Hood: I’m talking about my feelings and interests. Dumb lil stalker with a big mouth! I’ll teach you not to bother my boyfriend.
~~~~~
Henchman: Boss. We shouldn’t go into that area, the rumors are that there are Talons here. Red Hood: All under control, they won’t touch us. Henchman: How can you be sure? The poem says 'Beware The Court of Owls, that watches all the time, ruling Gotham from a shadow..' Red Hood: Yeah yeah "speak not a whispered word of them or they'll send The Talon for your head". I’m sleeping with their boss, of course I’m sure. Henchman: Boss, don’t kid like that. Red Hood: I don’t pay you for gossip. Let's go.
Dick, to whom the memories began to return, haunts Jason because he did not cut for Lil Wing apple slices like he likes for lunch: Talon came to finish the job. Henchmen: scream
~~~~~
Jason *shows Danny 'Red Flags' on youtube*: Hey, baby, want to be a little shit on our date? I know where Brucie Wayne’s having dinner tonight, so you can meet the family.

Wait one darn diggity second what’s this about unmarried half-foot women being embarrassing for the family, what’s this about being unmarried as a half-foot being "different [worse than] for other races". Maybe Flertom and Puckpatti’s intensity about finding a husband is the norm, maybe Meijack, despite Chilchuck approving of her disinterest in romance, is the one who’s considered weird by social standards.
Maybe they’re less well-adjusted than I thought. Don’t misunderstand me I’m aroace, but if there’s a lot of societal pressure and it’s considered a failure if you’re not married, it is notable when all 3 of your kids haven’t married past the time that’s expected. For reference adulthood for a half-foot is reached at 14, Chil got married at 13, Puckpatti is 14 while Flertom and Meijack are 16. The other half-foot character we have is Mickbell who is also unmarried, unsurprising considering his situation. I don’t think them not having married is about their family being poorer, if anything I’d think Chil’s family is on the comfier end of half-foot families with the high wages he gets paid with and the nice living conditions we’ve seen (although we don’t know when he started being paid well). We know about Flertom having high standards, but she and Puckpatti are actively looking to date, so there’s something going on here whatever it is.
It is nice that it doesn’t seem like Chilchuck cares at all, he even seems to generally dislike the idea of his daughters dating. I imagine that their mother must have also not pressured them into marrying at all, maybe even encouraged them not to marry if they didn’t have someone, which is sweet. And understandable, considering she might not want her daughters to rush into it and live with…….. Being stuck in an unhappy marriage. And here comes in what I meant when I said well-adjusted, daddy issues. We aren’t shown a lot of Chil’s married life, but I would bet my life on there having been tensions and warning signs. Especially since, since the daughters and Chil hadn’t seen each other since the separation before post-canon, there’s an air of not having been very surprised or panicked about the whole thing: the separation wasn’t unexpected. Having to watch your parents fall out of love and growing up seeing them in a taxing marriage can be hard, and not exactly put you in the mood to try and find romance and marry. Fear of abandonment, fear of intimacy, stunted emotional intelligence, fear of commitment… Oh girlies I am about to extrapolate so much from this
Half-foot society has a lot of coding I don’t have enough specialized knowledge to pin down, but they’re a poor working class people, anglo peasant vibes. They have tightly knit communities, but then the double edge is that if your community has expectations and rules to belong, the pressure will be harsh and it can end up being more isolating if you deviate from it. Marriage historically and in Dunmeshi has a lot of economical aspects, in Laios’ Adventurer’s Bible profile for example dowries are hinted at.
Tumblr media
So the pressure to marry might very well originate from the need to bring money in to your family, and to unite families as allies. And from there it grows into an expectation, and thus if they aren’t married it’s "an unmarried woman was deemed unfit by suitors, something with her must be off"/"This woman was unable to provide for her family, she must be a burden on them" which results into the family having a bad reputation. If Flertom says it’s worse for half-foots than other races, the reasons must be either social or economical or both. There’s of course their lifespan being shorter too, so that might play into it, expectations to go about things quickly and to have a fast life cycle and making sure to have kids. As we see with Laios, having kids is a pressure that does exist globally as well. Elves are another interesting example of how familial expectations are like in Dunmeshi with heirdom and whatnot, but free me I just wanted to bring up the possibility of Childaughters being societal misfits and having relational issues.
I will also mention that in a similar way, Chilchuck’s wife leaving him may have damaged the daughters’ chances, in a "what if they’re like their mother, the type of woman to abandon her husband!" way. Chilchuck also has a reputation especially as an union leader, which can paint him as dependable as much as it can paint him as someone harsh and stingy, which would be an intimidating. It’s possible they’re a bit more well-off from the rest of the half-foot community as mentioned, which could add to the intimidating factor or a bad reputation as an overall uptight family or one that has drama. Again, double edge of community being very tightly knit and important, with family as one of its highest values.

A thing I will keep saying:
Multigenerational households are really common right now because we are at a time of very high financial inequality and environmental stress.
Living with your parents is not, in any way, “failing”.
People living with family members because someone needs care has *always* been a thing. I’m 40 and I get care from my parents. They come up and make sure I eat during the day and walk my dog with me or for me, depending on how well I am on that day, and help me out with cleaning, a couple of days a week. If I didn’t live with my OH, I’d probably be living with them because a) I need enough care that it’s difficult to live by myself b) my entire income is from the Scottish Adult Disability Payment, plus a little from my Patreon and freelance work, which is not enough to afford housing on.
People contribute as they can. People do childcare and clean and cook and provide income from working or any other sources they can. Childcare is *incredibly* expensive rn. Housing is *incredibly* expensive rn. Formal care is broadly non-existent for far too many people unless they can pay for it, and even then it far too often doesn’t meet actual needs.
Please stop insulting people by saying they live with their parents. It’s literally just shitting on poor and disabled people for no reason.

Bad Idea Right - Part 7
Eris x Reader/Azriel’s Daughter
Soft Eris! Brooding Azriel! Meddling Nyx! Nosey Azalea! Reader has feelings! Enjoy.
Part 6 Part 7.5 (Prequel Headcanon)
Tumblr media
Warnings: Language
How convenient that the moment I show up in a compromising position at my door step with my half-naked lover? Fuck buddy? For all intents and purposes we’ll say boyfriend to spare my father from a heart attack at such a salacious relationship status. Surprise, Eris! You may be an oh-so-noble High Lord but now you’re my boyfriend too. Time to meet the parents! Again. But I digress, my father’s busy schedule conveniently cleared right up as Eris and I showed up at the door.
And Eris, the bastard, accepted his complete and utterly insincere offer to come in for lunch.
He winnowed back to his place beforehand to change into something more befitting of the situation at hand.
It was my intention to dart to my room, put on more clothing than my skimpy underwear and hide there until Eris returned but…. Azalea had other things in mind. No sooner than I dressed, she barreled in through the door.
“Sissy! I missed you. Why didn’t you have clothes on?”
Following her into the room came my mother. “Azalea, why don’t you go help dad set the table.”
Her jaw dropped “But-“
“Please, Azalea. We don’t want Eris to return while we are unprepared. That would make us poor hosts.”
She mulled over it for a moment before letting out a breath. “Fiiiiiine.”
As she ran off down the hall, my mother approached me, seating herself on the edge of the bed.
Here comes the lecture.
Her soft face, frozen in eternal youth remained neutral. “Y/N, your father was mortified to walk out and find you two like that.”
I waited for her to continue but to my absolute shock, she raised her hand to her mouth and LAUGHED. A true, genuine laugh.
“I’m- I’m so sorry. I know it must have been so uncomfortable for you.” Her laughter was contagious, I couldn’t hold back the very slight grin that tilted the corners of my lips upwards. “I just- he’s so hard to surprise. I can count on both hands the amount of times I’ve ever seen him shocked, and Y/N, half of them have been because of you.”
Her laughter softened as she placed a hand softly upon my cheek. I leaned into it. “I love you, Y/N. Your antics and the surprise you bring to our lives makes immortality far less dull.”
I didn’t realize how much I needed this moment with my mother. It was easy to forget that she was more than just “mother”. She was a strong female with a sense of humor and more purpose than just tending to a home and garden and doting over her children.
I am an adult now. She is still very young in fae terms. My mother could be my friend if I’d only let her.
As her laughter died, a memory struck me.
The burning flame drives away the wild shadow.
“The vision from Starfall. What about that? You seemed so upset.”
Mother took my hand. “Y/N, my visions are only a piece of a puzzle, not the entire picture. It could mean anything. The situation itself took me by surprise and the vision felt ominous in the moment but it may not mean anything. And despite the situation that just unfolded at our door, I trust you to use your best judgement. If you feel safe and happy, that’s all I can ask for.”
Elain Archeron, seer and pragmatist. Who knew?
——————
Forks scraped on plates and glasses clanked on wood as the five of us tensely ate our lunch. My appetite non-existent at this point in time. Eris decided to show up in his most noble High Lord attire because why not make this lunch more stiff and uncomfortable than it needs to be? And while he may have been dressed for the part of serious High Lord, his posturing oozed irreverence. with a saccharine grin plastered onto his face. A silent battle of wills raged between he and my father, who would cut the tension by breaking through the silence first?
My father, cauldron bless him, only sat stiffly in his chair, trying his damndest (and failing) not to clench his jaw, while his fists wrapped tightly around his utensils - as if he were afraid he’d set them down and his fists would immediately go flying toward Eris’ face.
My mother sat directly across from me, passing the occasional eyebrow raise in my direction - a silent sentiment of “Males. Am I right?”
Meanwhile, Azalea bounced eagerly in her chair, eyes darting back and forth between my father and Eris. Sparing the two males of a shot to their male egos, she broke the silence. “Well??? Is anyone going to say something?”
“Azalea” my mother warned. To which Azalea let out a dismissive huff before opening her mouth again. “Hey fire-uh, Eris! Do you love my sister? Are you going to get married?”
I choked on my water, father somehow managed to grip his utensils tighter, and Eris only chuckled. “I’d have to get her to go on a proper date with me first.”
While his intentions were genuine with the statement, my father visibly paled as if remembering what two adults who aren’t on dates tended to get up to.
“Ohh! A date! Sissy, why don’t you go on one?”
“Eris is a High Lord, Azzy. It’s hard to schedule time for one.”
“What about Aunt Feyre’s art exhibit? You could dress up fancy and go to Sevenda’s and Eris, you could get her flowers!”
A small part of me lit up at that. I had never considered a date as an option. A larger part of me wanted to fall through the floor immediately only to resurface once everyone had left the table.
Eris glanced toward me, likely noticing my slightly reddened cheeks. With a grin he said, “I’d like that. When’s this exhibit, Azalea?”
The comment sent Azalea into a frenzy as she gave him all the details of the day, the time, the gallery, her favorite works, and into her own interest in art and painting, and how Aunt Feyre keeps a picture that she’d painted of a Unicorn - which is very different from a Pegasus, thank you very much - framed in her gallery.
Azalea may be the biggest busybody of us all but gods was I thankful for her chatty ways and tendency to overshare in the moment.
As Azalea rambled on a loud knock banged on the door, far too loud for my lingering headache from the night before. My shadows practically hissed in irritation at the disruption. And then, as I saw my fathers tense features shift from his own state of irritation into relief, rage flickered inside me.
I glowered. “Are you fucking kidding me, dad?”
Ignoring my question completely, he strode to the door only to be greeted by Cassian’s hulking figure and Rhys.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on how cheeky he was feeling, Nyx strode in behind them.
If Eris was phased, he didn’t show it. Powerful High Lord or not, I had to give it to him. My- the male had balls.
Cassian clapped Eris on the shoulder as he strutted in. “To what do we owe this pleasure, High Lord?” Cassian’s ability to bait with only his tone of voice was rather impressive. Almost as impressive as Eris’ ability to remain unbothered by his efforts.
Nyx gave a subtle smirk and simultaneous eye roll. A show of “Oh I’m enjoying this very much but I empathize with you as well, cousin.” Rhys only gave Cassian a cautioning glare and likely a stern mental warning of “he’s still a High Lord and you will treat him as such.”
I forgot I still had a bone to pick with him over whatever secrets he and Eris had been keeping.
In fact….. since they were all here why not make this more uncomfortable for everyone - not JUST me.
Cassian, Rhys, and Nyx poured themselves glasses of whiskey before finding chairs at the table. Because why not mix in alcohol to this shit show? It’s not uncomfortable enough as it is.
“So,” I mused. “Uncle Rhys, when did you approve Eris for a temporary visa to rent an apartment in Velaris?”
Eris, ever the master of chaos, paled for the briefest of moments before a look crossed his features that he usually reserved for calling me “good girl” in his bed.
At that comment my father turned his icy gaze toward Rhys and even Cassian gaped.
And Rhys, the smooth prick, only replied “High Lord business, we have much to discuss regarding commerce in the coming months. Given his status it made more sense for him to have a private, warded apartment than to stay in a hotel with so many prying eyes.”
Though I thought the same, it was my father who muttered “Bullshit.” Shadows whirring in rage at Rhys openly allowing Eris to stay in the city as he pleases.
A part of me wanted to jump in and defend Eris but another part of me was still pissed to not have a direct answer.
Sensing the argument about to unfold between the brothers, my mother ushered Azalea, Eris, and I to the garden for tea. Nyx politely declined the offer in lieu of watching the drama between his father and Uncles play out.
—————
Seated in the garden, Azalea was jittery, practically begging to go inside and listen to the conversation with father and Rhys. Truthfully, I couldn’t blame her, and would have sent my shadows in but someone had thrown up a ward.
The tension between Eris and I, well, the tension from me to Eris was thick. I was still so angry with him for his secretive ways but… also so drawn to him. I craved him.
Fuck - this man and his stupid, beautiful face.
“Aw, are you thinking about me again? Glad you recognize which of us is the best looking Archeron.”
“Get out of my head, Nyx. You’re as nosey as Azalea.”
“Fine. I won’t give you updates on what’s happening in here.”
“Fuck off. Anyone have a broken bone or a black eye yet?”
“Nothing too exciting going on. Sadly. Mostly your father brooding in that rageful way of his over my father ‘encouraging’ your relationship.”
“He’s really struggling with accepting whatever it is between us.”
“Yeah, and Amren is a hoarder. Since we’re apparently stating the obvious here.”
“And you’re a pompous asshole.”
“You wound me, cousin.”
“Update me if anything interesting comes up.”
“Only if you say it.”
“I’m not saying it.”
“Fine. No gossip for you.”
“Are you really going to make me say it?”
Silence. Pure silence filled our mental connection for several moments.
“Fine.”
“Nyx is the most handsome Archeron.”
“I’m flattered. Talk to you later.”
I flipped him off mentally which earned a chuckle as his voice faded away.
He really was his father’s son. Insufferable in the most endearing of ways.
Seemingly having zoned out for too long, Azalea waived her little hands in my face “Earth to sissy!! Are you talking to Nyx? What’s happening?”
“LADIES.” Mother reprimanded. “Leave them be.”
A warmth heated my shoulder that I hadn’t previously noticed. When had Eris put his arm around me? So casually, so comfortably.
So…. Right.
And because she couldn’t leave him in peace, Azalea interrupted the quiet contentment, “Eris! I have a Sprite garden. Want to see it?”
Eris gave a gentle nod to Azalea. “I would love to.”
Mother only gave me an affectionate smile as I stood to follow them.
“This is Night Blooming Jasmine! The flowers are only out at night and this is a bench in case a Sprite comes to visit but I also put a bed back here” She motioned deep within the planted jasmine “in case one comes and needs a nap!”
Eris didn’t miss a beat as he crouched down to look at the little oasis she’s created in her garden.
“Do they ever come visit?” he asked inquisitively.
Softly, sadly, Azalea shook her head as she looked to the ground. “No.. but maybe someday. Maybe they’re nervous because we’re so big and they’re so tiny. I never see footprints but I will keep making it cozy for them so maybe they’ll feel safe. I would be their friend. We could be best friends.”
Eris listened attentively, never drifting his focus from her and her garden. And then my armored heart melted ever so softly as he warmly replied, “They’d be lucky to have you as a friend, Azalea.”
Her eyes lit up. “You really think so?”
“I know so.”
“You can be my friend too if you want.” She said, looking to him eagerly.
Eris was taken back for a moment. And the look in his face gutted me. As if- as if he couldn’t fathom that someone so gentle, so unbroken by the world could look at him and see anything other than the cold, calculated product of Beron Vanserra.
Azalea stared at him expectantly, her face beginning to falter until he smiled. A broad, genuine smile that I’d seen so few times. “I’d like that very much.”
And with that she grabbed his hand and led him through the rest of the garden.
——————
Eventually my mother retrieved a reluctant-to leave-Eris’-side Azalea, as father had sent Cassian, Rhys, and Nyx home. He was likely fuming that his little plan to make things more uncomfortable than necessary backfired and she didn’t feel like dealing with explaining to him why Azalea was gleefully dragging Eris by the hand through the garden.
I made a mental note to myself to take my little sister out for pastries soon as a “thank you” for serving as a buffer throughout the afternoon. I didn’t realize just how much discomfort she’d spared me from until she had gone inside and I was left alone in the garden with Eris.
Perhaps softened by his kindness with my vivacious sister and the painful look on his face at her kindness in return, I brushed my hand against the back of his.
His face remained stoic but I could have sworn a small lump formed in his throat.
We wandered a few more steps through the garden. He said nothing but, to my surprise, brought the back of his hand back to mine and hooked his pinky with mine.
And gods damn if that didn’t give me butterflies.
“So,” he started, almost coyly. I couldn’t be hearing this correctly. “About that exhibit at Feyre’s gallery?”
“Yes?” I asked.
“Could I-“ he took both of my hands in his, avoiding eye contact at first but finally meeting my gaze. “Would you- like for me to escort you? We could get dinner beforehand.”
I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. A nervous Eris Vanserra. Of all people, he was nervous in front of the female he’d been fucking for two years.
And yet, something sparked within me at the thought.
Feigning shock, I asked: “High Lord, are you asking me on a date?”
The corners of his lips lifted slightly. “Don’t be an ass.”
“Think you can manage not to strike anymore mysterious, shady bargains between now and then?”
“I believe I can manage.” He quipped. That casual irreverence in his tone returning.
“Then yes, Eris, I will. Now you should probably get home before my father comes out and decides to make his brooding everybody’s problem.”
With that he wrapped an arm around my waist as a hand gripped the back of my head, pulling in me tightly. His lips crashed into mine, kissing me passionately. I gasped into it as heat pooled within me, reverent need burning through my veins, urging him to deepen the kiss further.
And as suddenly as he initiated the kiss, he pulled back with a smirk. “See you soon, little Shadowsinger.” and winnowed away.

Here is the aforementioned essay! I said I’d get it done (and my notes were pretty detailed anyway)
Dick's robin is representative of the distinction of youth culture coming to light as more kids distanced themselves from the conservative views and began questioning authority figures, during the 40s, when they questioned the actual effects and causes of war, questioned the authority behind it and the reason for not intervening earlier. Batman as a character was also introduced in this period, and is a call for social change. He is a billionaire who wants to help the lower class. He empathises with the people, he sympathises with the child that lost his parents in front of him, and death is a driving factor in both their lives. To me, this seems like a homage to the families who lot their children, their fathers, their brothers, to the war, and wanted to do and be better, to live their memory and be able to push through and help the world. Dick also puts McCarthyism into question, as he doesn't exactly obey Batman all the time, despite needing to. He questions Batman, he questions Bruce, he is rebellious and harsh, and angry, and maybe that's how he would have turned out, even without Bruce giving him a cape and weapons.he represents the beginnings of change, the start of hope after a war, the ability to raise yourself and your family above that.
Jason's post crisis character when referring to youth of the time is much like Tim's and Dick's. This was a period after wartime economy, where the majority of the population were people who couldn't fight in the war, where communism was a genuine fear, and his whole story line of 'crime alley, poor orphan, adopted by a billionaire,' pulls both capitalism and communism into question- why is there a billionaire when the people are suffering, and capitalism CAN help the few lucky enough to receive that help. In terms of youth attitudes, he came from a time of youth rebellion, evident in his later comics, where he pulled away from Batman which lead to his eventual death. He took more risks, he had an edge over Dick I terms of his street brawler style instead of Dick's grace in acrobatics. The older generations saw this rebellion of youth as off putting, and often refused to hire younger generations due to their more leftist views, and a perceived notion of them being radical and troublemakers. This stigma till exists today and is still evident in later Robin runs.
Tim’s characterisation as a representation if the youth is the most prominent to a modern audience, though, because he is representative of teens in the 90s/very early 2000s and they were attempting to get more teens into comics without it being seen as nerdy, however, this push for more youth diversity in comics prompted a huge shift in youth culture, where comics were now being seen as old people stuff and ‘nerd culture’ up until televised media (TV/movies) started adapting it to exclusively appeal to nerd audiences who didn’t want to watch new media, as it might mean letting go of old media. Televised adaptations also brought in new fans who could understand storylines visually and in a more efficient way than reading several decades worth of back reading comics could. Tim was a skateboarder and a photographer, and these pictures and excessive stalking of Batman and Robin could almost be seen as a teenage girl in the 90s having posters of her celebrity crush all over the walls. He also slept A LOT, which might be the writers trying to represent the youth as lazy in order to keep older readers and avoid being seen as 'pandering' to the youth.
Coincidentally, Steph was also introduced as a Robin during this period of the early 2000s which meant that DC were trying to ensure that women were being represented more in traditionally male media in order for the women’s equality movements to also be appealed to. She, as a character, does not fit into any stereotypical female character archetype (nosy reporter, damsel on distress, femme fatale) and is so evidently an individual of her own, without simply being a part of someone else’s character, like Tim’s. This shift in views towards women in comics was probably what stopped more comics from ‘fridging’ their female characters in order to elevate a male character’s story, even though Steph and Barbara were both pretty badly portrayed at the end of their individual runs (Killing Joke and No Man's Land, and Steph's baby). Her introduction as a Robin, 'the Girl Wonder' was so that Batman comics would appeal to more women, specifically, women who were actively less conservative and more likely to get into traditionally male medias, as many women in the 2000s were stepping out of conservative roles, and more were engaging in these 'nerdy' interests.
Damian’s introduction in a post 9/11 world, where the vilification of the LoA had reached a high and probably contributed to the extreme whitewashing of his character, sometimes seen in the DCAU, or even a lot in comics. He seems to feel ostracised by the rest of the family, because of his upbringing, the same way many Arabs and other ethnic minorities felt at this time. Damian being white passing also meant that he perhaps reflected the Arab youth in America who were not so outwardly ostracised by their peers due to the racial and religious tensions in the country. He was also introduced in or around 2006 (I can’t remember the exact date) where the youth were, again, largely viewed as rebellious or hooligans, which is NOT reflected in his character, not that I can think of any examples.
Anyway. That’s it for the essay, let me know if I missed something, or got something wrong, and thank you for reading till the end!

T. Zegras - Family Reunion

Trevor Zegras x Reader
Requested✨
Word Count: 2.9k
Warning(s): none!
—————————————
It was the first time I was taking Trevor home to meet the entirety of my family. So many people in one place. Rambunctious, loud, intimidating people.
Trevor would fit right in.
I knew that, but he wouldn’t listen. No matter how many times I told him, he never believed he would be fine.
We had to fly to the city nearest to my hometown. After bidding goodbye to his lizard and leaving the poor thing with his roommate. He begged to bring Drago at first, but I insisted it wasn’t happening. My father was not a fan of animals in his home. Anything other than a dog would not pass. I knew my mother would wrinkle her nose at the sight of a lizard too.
There were certain family members I was worried about Trevor meeting. One side of my family tended to be a little more judgmental than the other side. One side was full of fun and insanity. The other side was.. well they were fun too, but sometimes new people could throw off the dynamic.
I worried Trevor would do just that, but I also told myself it was a simple Fourth of July party. Nothing to fret over. A few days we would be home, and then we’d go back to Anaheim.
I got him started on the hour drive from the airport to my childhood home, thankful that my parents wouldn’t be there to see him as soon as we got there.
We utilized the time alone. I let Trevor roam around the house, and eventually I led him up to my old bedroom. He was concerned by the sight of a twin sized bed, but I told him we’d make do with the space we had.
He asked about all of my tiny trinkets and decorations, getting to know a part of my life he was never fully immersed in. Then my parents came home and we spent the evening in the living room. Catching up, telling stories, and laughing the night away.
By the morning, Trevor was up well before me. Not early by any means, but we’d been up late, so sleeping in felt necessary.
He shook me awake around ten a.m., and we laid together for close to an hour before we slipped out of bed to get ready.
“Do you think this is overkill?” I stepped out of my closet to peek at Trevor. His blue polo was matched with a pair of white shorts. He didn’t have any red on. Nothing looked too overdone or extra. His hair looked a little poofy, but I’d blame that on the shower he took before bed, and all the moving he does when he sleeps.
“Trevor, you look fine.” I assured before I stepped back into the closet. I gave my own outfit one last look before I stepped out to slip on my shoes. I was met with the sight of a very unconvinced looking boyfriend, and I let out a sigh the second I noticed his tension.
He looked great, honestly. A piece of me wanted to stay home and celebrate the Fourth of July in another way with him. His skin was such a pretty golden color, and his cheeks were slightly pink from the beginnings of a sunburn he got back in Anaheim. I reached out to grab one of his forearms while my other hand traced the tattoo he had on the opposite arm. Nike, a beautiful statue and a meaningful symbol in his life.
“My family is going to love you. Just be yourself, yeah? Maybe don’t curse as much.. but other than that, be yourself.” I teased softly. Trevor was slow to nod before a smile made its way to his lips.
“I can’t believe I’m meeting your whole family.”
I couldn’t believe it either. I couldn’t believe it up until the moment we were pulling into my grandmother’s driveway, parking off to the side, and climbing out of the car. Then my body was buzzing with electricity. I could already hear everybody inside. We were early, so it was only immediate family there.
I walked Trevor through the garage and into the foyer. My heart was beating a mile per minute. I’m sure his was too. His hand squeezed my own as the conversation slowed. I kicked my shoes off just in time to see my baby cousin come flying out from the living room.
The little guy shouted my name in excitement before he looked back at his parents to see if they heard him.
Soon my whole family was rushing into the foyer to greet.
“Holy shit.” Trevor mumbled as he stepped up behind me, his body pressed into my back.
The hugs and endless, “how are you’s” eventually died down enough for me to introduce Trevor. The moment of truth.
“This was that plus one I was telling you guys about.”
“I’m Trevor. It’s nice to meet you guys.”
He was accepted into the family almost immediately. After he was introduced and got to know my family, he blended. He was regarded as just another visitor after more people began to arrive. I lost him after a while, only to hear him in the kitchen where my grandmother was asking him to help her carry things out to the fire pit.
Nothing meant more to me than knowing Trevor got along with my grandmother, who was usually high strung and easy to stress out.
As more people came around, the party moved outside. Kids ran about while family caught up. Everybody made their rounds meeting Trevor. He communicated well with people, that I knew, since the day we met. But he communicated even better with my family.
“He’s real sweet, you know that?”
I looked away from him to see my grandmother peering down at me with a proud smile.
“Works hard too.” She added.
“Yeah.. I love him a lot.”
“I can tell just by the way he looks at you, that he loves you too.” She pointed a finger at me. “I was so worried when you left for California. I don’t really know what I was worried about now. I should have known you’d be bringing somebody home.“
“Thanks.. that means a lot.”
When I looked back, Trevor was gone. I heard a squeal from behind me, and when I turned in my lawn chair, I caught sight of Trevor playing wiffle ball with the kids. His shoes and socks were gone, kicked off to the side with a bunch of other tiny pairs. I couldn’t help but giggle at how he played with them. Chirping and smack talking, chasing them down and laughing all the while. That awkward breathy giggle laugh that was so contagious it had me chuckling in my seat.
Trevor and I agreed we weren’t ready for kids, but when we were.. I knew he would be a great dad.
I set my drink down and stood up, walking across the yard. I kicked my own shoes off and slipped my socks away.
“Can I join? Or is the game strictly for kids?” I called, and caught the attention of all the little eyes. As well as the big pair in the midst of all the fun.
“You have to be on the opposite team.” Trevor responded, heaving for air.
“You bat!” The little girl at home plate called. “Trevor throws too fast.” I walked over as she slipped the bat into my hand and ran off to the side, giggling excitedly.
“Are you playing unfair?” I asked accusingly. One didn’t have to be athletic to play wiffle ball. Hand eye coordination was all it took. And I’d been playing this since I was as old as the toddler standing on second base with his older brother.
“Me? No!” Trevor and I both assumed our stances as he responded. “But I’m not taking it easy on you.”
“Same here, Zegras.”
He pitched. I swung. The ball went flying. We weren’t far from the house, and I felt accomplished the second I heard the plastic ball whistle through the air and hit the wood siding of the old home. Trevor took off after it, I thought it funny to prance around the bases. Until I spotted Trevor running full speed ahead at me while I was in between third and home plate. One rule in family wiffle-ball. A rule as old as time. No home runs. If it was possible to get tagged out, you were going to get chased down.
“Trevor, no!” I screamed as laughter immediately fell from my lips. I picked up the speed, as did he.
He reached for me just as my feet touched home plate, one of them getting caught beneath it and managing to fall forward.
Trevor grabbed ahold of me, but he went down too.
I heard my team shouting in victory, and the rest of my family laughing and shouting as well, but I was too busy laughing along with Trevor. Our legs covered in grass stains, as were our elbows. Trevor carefully touched the ball to my side.
“You’re out.” He spoke.
“I am not! I crossed home plate!” I gave him a shove, and soon I felt a pair of tiny knees digging into my back, and a child drape herself right over my side. Another kid joined, and I groaned as he climbed on top of me as well.
“Man pile!” I heard a little boy yell, and I gasped when he jumped on top of Trevor.
Soon there was a whole lot of us laying in the grass and laughing. Trevor tried to push a few kids off, but they only returned. We accepted our fates until parents came by to help us out, pulling their kids aside and giving us some space.
“I definitely scored,” I mumbled as I pulled away from Trevor.
“Did not.” He reached out to brush the grass from my knees, ever the gentleman despite our argument.
“Did so!” I countered, soon feeling the tickle of his fingers against my sides. I broke into a fit of laughter.
“I won, fair and square!” Trevor pulled an old dandelion from the ground around us, shaking it in my face. I grimaced and tried to wipe the fuzzy seeds away.
“Damnit Trevor, quit that.” I groaned softly with a smile.
No wonder he got along with the kids so well.
I finally slipped away from him and stood up, brushing myself off while Trevor made a show of the ‘pain’ in his joints while he stood up. I rolled my eyes at him.
I heard a few kids shouting about s’mores when one of the adults brought the marshmallows out.
“Are we making s’mores too?” When I looked back at Trevor, his eyes were wide with excitement.
“Obviously, T. Though I’m not sure you need any more sugar.” I turned around, hearing him huff and feeling his hand slip into mine as I guided him back toward the fire. Kids were already gathered around the table, and I giggled before I slipped away from Trevor to make my way over.
“You guys have to be careful with all these pointy sticks, okay?” I instructed as I grabbed one of the bags of marshmallows and opened them. “Everyone tell me how many they want.”
It was a hot mess trying to figure out which kid yelled which number, but soon Trevor was at my side, helping me with the little ones.
“Be careful, and don’t run!” I called to the last child as he left to find his mother. I glanced up at Trevor before grabbing a one of the metal skewers.
“We have to send a picture to Jamie. He’ll be so jealous.” I couldn’t help but chuckle at how excited Trevor looked. The way his eyebrows moved with his mouth, and his eyes squinted when he was excited.
“Give me a marshmallow, Zegras.” I chided. He pulled two from his half empty bag and slipped them onto the stick. “I said one.”
“You won’t make one for me?” He pouted.
“Ugh.. god Z, you’re so needy.” I whipped my body around in a sluggish manner, whining playfully over his own pout. Trevor chuckled at me before his arms wrapped around my body.
“I know, I’m the worst.” He mumbled with a giggle. “I’m gonna put the rest of our stuff on a plate, then I’ll come find you.”
“Grab peanut butter cups!”
When he joined the rest of my family around the fire, we found ourselves seated in the grass. Trevor sat next to me while I roasted our marshmallows, the plate of Graham crackers and chocolate in his lap.
The kids quickly began to gather around us, plopping down left and right, mostly around Trevor, but a few with me as well.
“Trevor look what I have!” A kid held out her messy marshmallow. Her face was covered in evidence of the other three she ate before.
“I’m about to have one too.” Trevor giggled. “I’ll tell you guys how it tastes.”
“Oh auntie makes them the best!” Another little boy called. He practically lunged into Trevor’s lap, settling himself in the space where his legs were folded criss-crossed. I giggled at the surprise on Trevor‘s face.
When I looked back at the marshmallows, I realized they were beginning to melt off the skewer.
“Trev! Crackers!”
The kid seated in Trevor’s lap leaned back against his chest while Trevor helped me make the s’mores. I leaned the skewer up against the fire ring after, and we clinked our snacks before I allowed Trevor to take the first bite.
The look of pure bliss on his face was enough to boost my ego for a lifetime.
“Wow.” He spoke through a full mouth.
“That’s why I suggest the peanut butter cups instead of normal chocolate.” I quipped before I took a bite out of my own s’more.
“I want a bite!” The boy reached for Trevor’s snack, and I giggled when my boyfriend pulled it out of the kid’s reach.
“Don’t worry, honey. I’ll make you one.” I stretched an arm out to ruffle his hair. “Kelsey, can you go grab me another marshmallow?” I asked a little girl to my left. She smiled and quickly got up to go find the bag. I leaned into Trevor’s side while I waited.
The little boy in his lap aimlessly played with Trevor’s shoe strings, before looking up at the hockey player with a blank stare. Trevor was busy finishing the last bite of his s’more before he made eye contact with the kid.
“Hunter?” The little boy’s head perked up at the sound of his mother’s voice.
“Gotta go.” He mumbled as he climbed out of Trevor’s lap, with a bit of assistance.
“Bye, Buddy.” Trevor offered him a fist bump before the kid ran off to find his mother.
I stared my lover down with an incredulous smirk. When Trevor looked back at me, his brow rose quickly.
“What?”
“Nothing. I just love how good you are with kids. And my family.”
“Really?” He looked surprised. “God I was afraid they’d hate me.”
I laughed softly, wrapping an arm around his back. “They could never hate you. You’re the first guy I’ve dated who’s actually treated me nice.”
“Oh don’t tell me that.. that makes me sad.” One of his hands came down to rest on my thigh. I brought my free hand to rest on top of his.
“You’d have to kill me or burn my apartment down before they hated you.” I joked, earning a small laugh from him.
“I don’t think I’ll end up doing either of those things.”
“Eh who knows? You might manage to cause a small kitchen fire one day.”
“Hey!” He gently pushed me, and I giggled at his offense.
Our conversation settled into silence before I looked back up at him.
“How many kids do you want?”
“Huh?”
“Kids.. Trev. Do you want kids?”
I watched him contemplate my question.
“A few? Maybe like.. three? I grew up with two siblings. I feel like three kids balances out a house well. Ya know?”
I didn’t quite understand his logic, but if Trevor wanted three kids, I figured I could go along with that.
“What about two and a dog?” I suggested playfully.
“Oh, a dog like Louie?”
“Yeah, we can get a dog like Louie. I was thinking maybe something a little more protective though. A Great Dane?”
“What if it eats our kids?” Trevor’s question caused a quiet fit of laughter to fall from my lips.
“They’re very gentle dogs. Just territorial with strangers and intruders.” I explained.
“Well that’s what we have Jamie for.” Now we were both laughing.
“I’m not having three kids and Jamie.”
Trevor playfully gasped. “I’m gonna tell him you said that.”
“He’ll get over it.” I gently squeezed his hand.
“He’s gotta be the uncle to our kids. He’d better get over it.”
“What about Griffin?”
“Eh. Jamie’s closer.” I rolled my eyes and giggled softly, leaning back into Trevor’s side.
“I’m gonna tell Griffin you said that.” I mocked quietly.
“He’ll get over it.” He responded in time.

Alright I did say I’d bring my infodumps and fantheying here to tumblr instead so lemme actually do this for once!!
Spoiler warning for Alrecchino’s animated short!
Tumblr media
If you haven’t watched it yet, here’s the link!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright first things first! It looks like Clervie and Bulle Fruit girl were Alrecchino’s closest friends/sisters, which’s just so cute 🥺
From the visual storytelling and just how we saw Arle and Clervie together much more often than with Bulle Fruit girl, it also appears like Clervie was much much closer to Arlecchino, which’s so interesting!!
I love how Arlecchino is all about blacks, whites and occasional reds, she was always quiet and doing her own thing, and SHE HAD ACTUAL SHORT HAIR UNTIL RECENTLY ACTUALLY!!!! Gnc nation won!!!!
Tumblr media
Anyway ahemmm LOL and Clervie was the opposite. A pink, outgoing girl, full of life and wonder for the world she lives in. Also, she was “girly” and wears dresses, while Arlecchino doesn’t seem fond of them (like me omggg)
Tumblr media
Like, they’re literally opposites in everything, yet they were so close and so important to each other. Thinking about what comes next hurts my heart like nothing else just because of this.
Another thing I wanna bring up before we move on is: in this part, we learn that Arle’s deal with the black hand is indeed some kind of curse. And that’s probably why she was able to tell Furina’s also cursed, she had experience with one since birth after all
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I LOVE THAT THEY HAD THEIR OWN PLUSHIES MADE IN THEIR IMAGE!!!! Arlecchino’s plushie is so cute!!! I wonder if she kept Clervie’s after all these years 🥺
Tumblr media
In this part we also learn that their “mother” usually “argues” with her daughters, and for some reason Clervie has quite some injuries. From this, it’s not hard to assume she’s literally beating them up, which’s nasty.
A full grown woman beating up literal kids who cannot defend themselves? As a survivor of parental abuse, I felt this so hard, and I hate that hag so fucking much already.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This part I didn’t get at first, probably bc I didn’t pay attention to the beginning; when I watched it again, I caught it however. Their “mother” not only physically abused them but also made them battle each other to death.
Resulting in Arlecchino being the very one that killed Clervie, and potentially Bulle Fruit girl too.
Naturally, she was full of rage. I would be too, if I were in her shoes.
Tumblr media
And that’s why I love her battle against “mother”. I didn’t take many screenshots because it’s a fast moving scene, but “mother”’s dialogue seems to hint that she’s the kind of mother that pretends to be caring and gentle but is actually cruel and ruthless in her actions. Which’s tbh the worst kind of mother probably.
Another detail that caught my eye was that Arlecchino was no match for her without her curse. But as soon as she released and embraced her curse, she not only defeated her “mother”, she blew up the entire building. Which’s epic as hell and I love that for her LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I find it interesting that Arlecchino was actually pretty close to becoming a criminal because of killing “mother”. Which’s so tragic when you think that she had already killed Fatui members before (Clervie and Bulle Fruit girl), but they weren’t ranked enough for it to be a big deal, like their deaths didn’t mean anything. But to Arlecchino they did… Aaaaanywayyyy.
For some reason I thought the Arlecchino title succession was much more automatic, like 1. Kill your parent 2. You’re now king. I think it’s because I’ve seen this in other shows before, but here she was taken to Snezhnaya to be judged by the Tsaritsa herself.
Luckily, the Tsaritsa not only pardoned her crimes but also promoted her to Arlecchino. Also I gotta say, her words… “My poor, mad, cursed Knave” hit me so hard. The Tsaritsa does seem to not be that cold and to empathize with her. Based of her tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And at the end, we see a seemingly orphan child. At first I thought this was Freminet, but he has a more yellowish tone of eye color, so maybe this is a random kid?
Anyway, the thing that matters here is that Arlecchino says that she’ll be his strict and unfeeling “father”, which immediately stood out to me against her “mother”’s “kind and caring” approach.
Tumblr media
Looks like she decided to be a “strict and unfeeling father” to not become like her own “mother”. This is so real of her tbh. I already knew the previous Knave was nasty, but with this animation it really hit home to me, as a survivor too.
I wanna pull her even more now LOL may all Arlecchino wanters become Arlecchino havers!!!!! I’m so excited!!!!

Phantom in Gotham 7
Chapter 6
In no time at all Danny found himself in a nightwing t-shirt with black and gray bat pajama pants, hair a bit damp, and sitting on a soft couch across from Alfred with a cup of warm cocoa in his hands. “I assume you have questions?” Alfred prompted after a moment, setting his teacup down on the matching plate on the coffee table.
“Um, yeah,”Danny stammered, looking from his cup to Alfred. He sighed,”Sorry, um. I’ve never been kidnapped by a vigilante before, so I’m not exactly sure… what to do here?”
Alfred sighed, not at Danny, but he assumed Alfred hoped the Red Hood might’ve explained a bit more before dropping him off with the man. “No need to worry, Red Hood informed me of your situation, young man. You are welcome to stay here, at the very least until the snow subsides,” Alfred informed him. “Beyond that, please make yourself at home. You may find a few familiar faces around the manor, even.”
“Who? What do you mean?” Danny asked, tilting his head and reminding Alfred of a puppy.
“You’re residing in Wayne Manor, and I am Master Bruce’s butler,”Alfred winked, and Danny’s eyes widened. “I assume you might know the many children he’s adopted from the news. Currently Masters Damian and Timothy are home, but the others may show up at a later date.”
“The Wayne Manor?” Danny repeated absently. He vaguely recalled Tucker ranting about WayneTech. “Are you sure it’s okay for me to be here? I don’t want to cause any trouble.”
“Nonsense,” Alfred waved gracefully,”You’re welcome to stay as long as you like. There are plenty of empty rooms in this place, and it’s been feeling entirely too empty since Master Jason and Dick moved out.”
“Well… if you’re sure,Danny relented, sipping at his mug again. “Are you the only butler here? This place is huge.”
“Quite,” Alfred inclined his head,”There are a few other hired hands, but I am in charge of most things within the manor, such as mealtimes.”
“I could help?” Danny offered, perking up. Living in the Pizzeria left little time for cooking in an actual kitchen, and his core hummed at the prospect of helping the old man. “My parents weren’t great at cooking so my sister and I did most of the cooking around the house.”
Despite no one else but Jason allowed in his kitchen, Alfred’s heart warmed at the offer. “I’d enjoy some company, if you’d care to join me,”Alfred smiled, and Danny’s core hummed happily. Danny smiled back, and Alfred could only hope the boy was better than Dick had been in the kitchen. The poor boy somehow had found a way to set a bowl of cereal on fire that one time.
Before anyone could add anything else, a small boy about eleven years old walked past the room with an apple in hand. The boy in question halted in his tracks and approached the two on the couches. “Another one?” The boy scoffed, and Danny took a moment to take in the kid’s cat t-shirt and nightwing pajama pants. “Pennyworth, doesn’t Father have enough children? Where is he? I must talk sense into him.”
“Master Danny here was sent for us to look after by the Red Hood,”Alfred forewarned as Danny fidgeted on the couch,”He will be staying with us while the snow is hampering his living conditions. Master Danny, meet Master Wayne’s son, Damian,” Alfred added, turning to Danny.
“H-hi,” Danny waved awkwardly, unsure of what to say to the kid whose house he’s staying in without Damian knowing. “Nice to meet you?” Danny offered.
Damian just scoffed,”Of course. I bet Hood found him on the streets, didn’t he?”
“Hey, it’s not like I wanted to be here,”Danny shot back, exasperated,”Hood threw me over his shoulder and dragged me here. I’d leave if I could but this place is so big I don’t think I’d be able to find the door.”
Damian frowned, thinking,”You wouldn’t survive the blizzard outside even if you managed to find the door. Besides, you’re here now, might as well take advantage of the manor while you can,” Damian squinted, almost like he was testing Danny.
“I’ll have you know that I would have been perfectly fine out there,”Danny sniffed, and Damian’s eyes narrowed at him. “I’d make an igloo and burrow into it like a polar bear. So don’t worry, I’ll be out of your hair in no time.”
“Tt. Your sense of self-preservation is worrying, and I doubt your ability to make a structurally sound igloo,”The kid concluded, looking out towards the windows covered in snow.“Are you implying the snow is preferable to the manor? Why do you desire a cold death out there over warmth here?”
Danny waved his concerns off,”Your giant castle is nice, I just. I had a space to hide out in, and being kidnapped to stay here was not on my list of things to do today.”
Alfred tutted,”An abandoned building with no heat or water was not adequate housing for this sort of blizzard, young man.”
Damian ignored Danny’s mumble proclaiming that he would have been fine, and stated,”I have concluded that you may be stupid or suicidal, so I will allow you to stay here until the snow lets up, if only to not have your death on my conscience,”Damian nodded, then scowled threateningly,”If you try to leave before I or Pennyworth say so, I will make sure you stay by less than pleasant means.” He stated, then turned on his heel and left the room.
Danny made a face at that, wondering if the kid was joking or not about the ‘less than pleasant means’ that he’d go through if he tried to leave. Did they have cameras here? He wondered if he’d be able to go ghost without anyone noticing. “Do not worry,”Alfred stated, standing up gracefully. “Master Damian has a soft spot for strays, you’ll be welcome here.”
“Um… okay?”Danny said incredulously. He wasn’t even sure he wanted to be welcome here, yet his core had latched on to the frail old man like a starving cat to a tuna sandwich. He knew he’d only be able to leave once he’d made sure Alfred, and possibly Damian too, were safe during the blizzard. This day just got weirder and weirder.
“I’m sure you’re tired. If you’ll follow me, I can show you to the guest bedroom,”Alfred offered, and Danny scrambled to his feet. He wasn’t tired in the least, and he doubted he’d be able to fall asleep at all tonight given his fucked up sleep schedule and his need for less sleep than usual anyway, but he didn’t realize that Alfred was probably tired, and needed to rest for the night.
“Uh- sure, yeah,”Danny rambled, and the two made a detour to the kitchen to put away the cups before Alfred led Danny down a corridor with some decorations and nameplates attached to some of the doors.
“You’re right next to Timothy, who should be asleep as of now, but if you have any issues he will be able to help you,” Alfred informed him, opening the door to the biggest room Danny had ever seen (not including Vlad’s). “I shall leave you to retire for now, master Danny, but do try and get some sleep. Breakfast starts at 8am sharp, and is mandatory for all those residing in the house tonight.”
“Do you want any help making breakfast?” Danny offered sincerely. He’d try to go exploring in his ghost form, but he knew he’d be bored and restless most of the night as he decided not to go out patrolling. Might as well try to get an early start on the day, he figured.
“I don’t see why not,”Alfred conceded. “I usually start around 6:30, but feel free to show up whenever you wake.”
“I’ll be there,” Danny smiled brightly. It’d been so long since he’d been able to cook something with Jazz, despite his lack of appetite, he’d missed it.
“Goodnight, Master Danny,”Alfred nodded, a soft, fond smile on his face.
“G’night Alfred,”Danny waved as he left the corridor. He sighed, making his way into the room and face-planting onto the bed.
What a day, he thought.

I feel because of the chain having a lot of fights as strangers and since reader would be seeing wind sulking after when they have to leave since the other links are getting physical and because of that I would believe there be a lot of days where the links and reader would just have a movie night just some time to not think of the world for reader while feeding the chain's curiosity of this world. So I give you this, reader showing wind the pirates of the Caribbean trilogy.
So I hope you don't mind, I've written this as a sort of continuation of one of your recent asks where reader took Wind to the beach as a reward, but since the rest of the chain decided to argue and ruin it - he gets a private movie night instead!
“I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with your dad arguing with every single living being Wind, I mean I know he’s getting better but you shouldn’t have to deal with it all the time.”
“Is that why you set all of this up [name], because he keeps arguing all the time? Are Wild and Calm gonna join us as well then?”
“Wild said they wanted to try and get closer to Sage actually. They’re doing their own thing, right now I’m focused on cheering you up kiddo. Don’t think I didn’t see you sulking when your day was ruined.”
He’s got his typical pout back, so clearly what I said was right even if he won’t say it aloud, Wind’s fairly easy to read like that. Asides from his very blatant dislike of the beach day being ruined by sage and time getting into a full-blown fight, he seems very pleased with the fact he gets my attention to himself like this. Burying himself in the pillow fort I made on the bed with a smile shows that clearer than day.
“So we're going to spend the night talking and eating a bunch of snacks?”
“A bit more than that, I’d like to show you some of my favourite films. I think you’ll love them even more than I do though.”
Setting this all up was far more complicated than I would’ve thought originally, and I’ll have to thank Wild for offering to distract Sage long enough so he won’t disturb us when we’re watching one of the best trilogies of all time, I’m sure I can come up with something to thank him. Right now my focus is all on Wind, and making up for his day being ruined; captain jack sparrow always helped cheer me up whenever I got upset so it should help Wind. Poor kid deserves to have some kind of reward for adjusting to his new life this well and as his parent, it falls to me to make sure he gets one that’s right for how incredible he’s being.
“So what are they about [name]! Is it one of those family traditions you said you were going to teach me, Wild and Calm!”
“No it’s not a tradition, and I wouldn’t be teaching you without your brothers either Wind.”
“You didn’t say what it’s going to be about though. Please [name]?”
Ruffling his hair with a laugh, settling next to him with the remote in my hand ready to show him something I was saving to cheer up a bad day. Making it beyond perfect for this exact moment. With the fog on the screen showing a ship emerge with the eerie singing, Wind’s attention was instantly hooked when he heard the faint lyrics of a pirate's life for me. Good, This is what he deserves after everything else. He’s more focused on this than anyone would have thought possible. Now I just hope he doesn’t have a Jack sparrow like I did the first time I ever saw this film, with his natural energy I don’t think any of us could survive that. After the escape and the botched execution of Jack with will turner saving his life I heard the first thing out of Wind since the film started.
“THAT WAS AWESOME!!! AND YOU SAID THERE’S MORE!!!”
“There’s still another two films to go kiddo, you sure you’re up for that?” “DO YOU EVEN HAVE TO ASK!! OF COURSE, I AM!!”
“So you wanna start the next one straight away?”
“COME ONNNN! I REALLY WANNA WATCH IT!”
“Alright kiddo, just don’t exhaust yourself you can ask me to pause it if you want to eat something.”
After watching the next two films, I can safely say I’m exhausted even though Wind still seems ready to watch more. Wait no, scratch that he looks like he could pass out at any moment, he’s barely keeping himself awake.
“‘M ready to go to bed now I think [name], do you mind if I-”
And there he goes, he didn’t even manage to finish his sentence before falling asleep. I’m just glad I managed to cheer him up after the failure of today. I’ll be careful not to wake him now. After all, I know better than to wake a man when he's sleepin'. It's bad luck.

I think Raphael would be a terrible father. At least at the beginning (we’re ignoring the fact he’s literally The Devil™. jk we can’t)
Welcome to my ted talk, it’s just a bunch of words. I doubt this makes any sense
Tumblr media
Despite my belief that he's adept at charming people and appearing nice, he still manages to do some terrible things to children (eeeh, Mol?). Like, seriously, a contract with a child? Even if we all know he could charm a piece of furniture into whatever he wants. So, handling a somewhat grown-up child wouldn't be a challenge for him, I guess.
A toddler? Absolute hassle. He doesn’t harbor strong feelings about them, nor does he find them repulsive, but he does consider them utterly useless. Requiring round-the-clock attention, they're a burden he can't comprehend why anyone would want. If handed a toddler, honestly, he'd let them cry until they're so exhausted they fall asleep.
Another reason why I think he would make a terrible parent (aside from the fact that he’s literally a devil) is his relationship with his own father, which is also awful. I mean, he absolutely despises Mephistopheles. I'd venture to say it's because Raphael feels like his father believes he's incapable of achieving his ambitious goals. Plus, our dear devil often behaves like a petulant child who didn’t get what they wanted (remember the whole crown of Karsus and so on).
Let’s continue… ehem, Enver Gortash? Like Raphael had this poor child inside his House of Hope where he was beaten by debtors and saw a lot of atrocities. Yeah, he doesn’t even have a paternal instinct.
Ugh, I’m feeling like a Raphael hater!
Let’s move on to the somewhat delulu part: Actual children of his own… finally!
Since our dear devil is a cambion, possessing this inherent humanity within himself (like his penchant for singing, poetry, and writing), I believe he craves things that mortals have, such as affection, closeness or even love (but doesn’t understand it). So, if someone is foolish enough to have children with him, I think he would see it as an opportunity to mold someone from their very first breath. Everything he does is connected to his grand ambition of becoming the king of hell, so having a child doesn’t sound too bad in that context.
He would completely ignore his child’s needs and would be pretty negligent overall. Would plot against Mephistopheles with them.
But to be loved is to be changed, and if someone is both brave enough to love him and start a family with him… well, I think we can appeal to his more human side. I think he could be able to feel ‘love’ for his child but he’s never going to be able to be a decent father. He will go from evil to mean. I really hope their other parental figure is treating them with love.
I think his first child ever will grow to resent him, even if Raphael tried to shape them to be a piece of his giant plan. Mortals are bounded to emotions.
But this is fantasy! I’d be delulu sometimes thinking he could be a great dad! Like actually being warm to his sons and daughters, reading poetry and living in a quiet home, away from the city and near a lake.

“I hope you find someone you can't live without.I really do. And I hope you never have to know what it's like to have to try and live without them.”
“No, I’m not choosing him or you. I’m choosing me.”
“It's always the fear of looking stupid that stops you from being awesome.”
“If you don’t want me to be in love with you, you’re going to have to stop looking so lovely. First thing tomorrow I’m having your maids sew some potato sacks together for you.”
“America Singer, one day you will fall asleep in my arms every night. And you'll wake up to my kisses every morning.”
“You get confused by crying women, I get confused by walks with princes.”
"One can never help being born into perfection.”
“I should have known that if any girl was going to disobey an order, it would be you.”
“Listen to me, kitten. Win or lose, you’ll always be a princess to me.”
"Do you think. That I could still call you ‘my dear’?"
“You’re too beautiful for your own good. Once you leave, we’ll have to send some of the guards with you. You’ll never survive on your own, poor thing.”
“I guessed princesses-in-training didn’t wear pants.”
“History isn’t something you study. It’s something you should just know.”
“You don't do that. You don't just leave your family. Sticking together... it's the only way to survive.”
“It's the fear of looking stupid the keeps you from being awesome.”
“America, I don't think you can change history."
“You ask for such simple things, I can't deny you.”
“Great. Now the queen thought I was a misfit, too.”
“Yeah, Mom, I’ll just keep telling the prince that he has absolutely no shot with me and offend him as often as I can. Great plan.”
"Yes! It's been a pleasure getting to know these ladies."
“You deserved to be loved. And I hope you get to marry for love and not a number.”
“I think you can tell by now that I'm not the type of man to beat around the bush. I'll tell you exactly what I want from you."
 "In public? You thought...for heaven's sake. I'm a gentleman!"
"Why did you even offer to help if you think so little of me?"
“Ah yes, the man or the crown. I'm afraid some can't tell the difference.”
“It was a special feeling, irreplaceable, that was priceless. No queen on the throne could feel more important than me.”
“Every girl needs to shine once in a while.”
“I’d be surrounded by scores of guards at the palace, but I couldn’t imagine a place safer than my father’s arms.”
“You are all dear to me. it is simply a matter of discovering who shall be the dearest.”
“But you don't love someone for almost two years and then turn it off overnight.”
“America, I might have my family, but imagine how embarrassing it is to have your parents watch as you attempt to date for the first time. And not just your parents—the whole country! Worse than that, it’s not even a normal style of dating.”
“Sometimes people don't know whether to interpret silence as confidence or fear.”
“By birth you have been blessed, and it is time to acknowledge that blessing.”
“I feel that no good leader can let the masses go unfed”
“Your feelings being a little slower than mine? I'm prepared to wait. I don't think there's anything you could do that I couldn't forgive.”
“I’ve never needed very much to be happy. I thought you knew that.”
“The summer was ending, and soon we’d be faced with cold. And worry.”
“I didn't want to be royalty. And I didn't want to be a One. I didn't even want to try.”
“And I didn't think it was possible to find love for a person I don't know at all.”
“I gulped. Too many rules, too much structure, too many people. I just wanted to be alone with a violin.”
“Another reason everyone married young: Waiting is torture.”
“You were a dream I didn’t dare speak aloud”
“You get confused by crying women, I get confused by walks with princes,”
“America, my dear, I hope you find something in this cage worth fighting for”
“Tsk-tsk. A lady never raises her voice above a gentle whisper.”
“If she cries, I want to wear pants for a week".”
“I was so hungry for words from my family. As soon as it was in”
“you don't love someone for almost two years and then turn it off overnight”
“And it’s old advice, but it’s good: Be yourself.”
"The first time we really spoke, I corrected your manners."
“We couldn’t afford the luxury of wants. We had needs.”
“Gerad, what do you think? Do you think I’m pretty?”
“They curtsied and giggled.”
“My whole life, I've been taught to be invisible”

When I’m depressed and I think that nothing can lift my spirits up anymore, I tell to myself: “you need to live now, you’ll die tomorrow”. This sentence is a double-edged sword. It led to me making the most out of the situation I was in, but it also led me to drink whisky like I’m Dylan Thomas and smoke a pack in one night before passing out.
When I was a teenager, a very suicidal one, I used to put on a movie I really wanted to see before dying, text my friends, listen to my favourite songs or read a book. Or I’d have a good old crying fit for 3 hours, choking on my tears until I felt numb and exhausted, but peaceful. I wrote a dozen of letters to my family, some of them filled with so much vitriol that my parents could light it on fire just by touching it, some filled with sadness and regret about everything I was, am and would’ve been if I didn’t die. I’d look out of the window and say to myself that it’s sad I didn’t get to see a night sky without light pollution, or be naked in the rain. I’d picture everything I wanted to do again but couldn’t: swim in the North sea and feel the waves crash down on me, feel the warm sand on my skin after getting out of the fresh, cool water, see the sunset on Saint-Malo’s bulwarks and go for a walk on the beach after a nice dinner, when you’re alone for miles on end, my hair whipping my face and tasting the salt on my lips. Eventually I’d go to sleep, then wake up the next day. I didn’t die.
For the past decade, dying tomorrow meant partying all night. Chugging beers like water until my vision blurred, smoking cigarettes and joints until it felt like my lungs would colapse. Listening to music, high out of my mind, it felt like I wanted to leave my body even before it’d give out its last breath. I wouldn’t die tomorrow, I was already dead. Everything I did on a day to day basis was clunging unto anything I could to flee this forsaken flesh and these forsaken times and this forsaken world.
When I wake up, I’m hungover, defeated, can’t breathe properly. I didn’t die. But it doesn’t have the taste it used to. I used to be trapped in my family, living a life I hated like any 13year-old depressed teen hates their life, trapped in a body that was changing in gruesome ways and trapped in my room, day dreaming about running away.
Nowadays I’m more free than I ever was. As far as being jobless, disabled, queer and poor can free you. I mean that I’m in a position where I can live as I please, without anyone berating me for my choices. But now I’m trapped in my own mind, my addictions are exhausting to manage especially in my financial situation, and it seems like the chronic suicidality is back again. I could write extensively about my fear of growing old. My spirituality helped me in the past, now the idea of dying in this sick, twisted world only to be reborn in the same sick, twisted world makes me want to vomit.
I used to write fiction, short-stories, now I can’t get in my head that easily. Every fictional story I write is grounded in reality, my reality. I can’t be all whimsical about my problems anymore, there’s no sugarcoating it. I wish I could go back in time to write every story I ever invented and left unfinished.
All this rambling for nothing. I won’t die tomorrow. I know it.
But today, I feel like I’m a hundred years old. Eaten to the bone. Tired out of my mind. And yet, and yet, there’s still so much to do.

Live slug reaction: You already know what I’m gonna say. I’ll try and keep it to the absolute minimum
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you think Tatiana knows what ruining the magic is? Do you think she knows what a furry is ?
Tumblr media
The way Tatiana is unironically more of a bitchy diva character than kururu is. I cannot live laugh love in these conditions TOZUKA
Tumblr media
Tatianas tragedy having nothing to do with her parents or her birthday feels really weird.
The main thing that made her tragedy so awful is because she lost the people dearest to her and afterwards couldn’t even gain new ones.
Tactical nuking a fashion show is obviously bad but it doesn’t feel as … emotionally gut wrenching as killing her parents.
As it is now she already can’t touch the people she wants to. Because of her modelling career. It doesn’t feel like getting that perfect photo should be the peak of her emotional fulfilment
I’d prefer for her to actually hug her parents, the poor kid.
(thoughts from chatting with cat (@your-zipper-is-down ) about it)
Tumblr media
One last shot of sean gina chikara polycule. sean/gina are so annoying to each other I love them. Chikara is here to prevent them killing each other
Tumblr media
I’m not fucking around man. You can tell me Tatiana is a perfectly normal age to be dating chikara. That she’s just short. But can you tell this panel that? She looks so young here.
(Yes I know it’s anime and everyone has big babydoll eyes and bobble heads but I need you to work with me )
What are you thinking tozuka.
Tumblr media
I’m guessing they’re gonna try and make the UT area perceivable with like fog or something? That’s cool I think.
Tumblr media
This panel really is pretty. She looks a lot like juiz which I think is cute. This outfit really is cool. love the boots very me coded
Tumblr media Tumblr media
no no no no no
Tumblr media
(no but really. Why are Sean and Gina making that face at each other???)
@wickedsick this image is why I didn’t post immediately. I had to share my vision
Tumblr media
I’m confident I don’t have to explain why this is bad. Chikara graduated on screen, so he’s like… 17/18. Look me in the eye and tell me Tatiana is the same age. Or even close enough for it to be okay.
Yeah, I’m gonna go find a nice rock to live under if you guys don’t mind. You’re all welcome to join me
Tumblr media
This image of tati and her plushies is my brain and eye bleach. I very much need it
Tumblr media
Well I’m still really hoping this is a fake out if I’m honest… it’s not her birthday yet and her parents are no where in sight. I need more time tozuka. Praying it doesn’t manifest next chapter but well. so, mixed feelings overall.
I’m not sure if I dislike Tatianas characterisation here or if I just don’t like change. Have to sit on it for a while.
well. Until next time I guess

MHA: Heart of Glass Chapter 2: A Special Invite
At the same time, at U. A. High, Principal Nezu was pacing back and forth, back and forth. “What‘s wrong, Nezu? Something on your mind, bud?”, asked Eraser Head as he approached, a cup of coffee in one hand. “Well, thing is, I’d hate to break it to you, but we aren’t getting as many applications as we used to!”, said Nezu, his face clearly showing disappointment. “Then how are we going to fix this?”, asked Kamui Woods as he readjusted a potted plant and watered it with a glass of water. “Hmmmm… Maybe we can do the sweepstakes like we always do.”, replied Endeavor as he pulled down a board of the plans, including the sweepstakes. “Or we could hold the annual U. A. Hero Gala like we always do, but this time we also scout out new students for the school.”, replied Aizawa with little to no emotion. “I’d say we do the sweepstakes!”, shouted Endeavor as he drew a bit more on the board. “I think that using the Hero Gala as an opportunity to get new students is a much more likely option.”, Aizawa replied. The two men kept bantering with one another, until Present Mic stepped in. “You know, how about we hold the Gala, but also have all attendees be entered into a sweepstakes?”, he asked. All Might, the greatest hero in the entire land; was nearby, and he also nodded.
At those words, Nezu’s face lit up. “Oh, Hizashi, you are a genius! Why didn’t I think of that idea before?”, he said excitedly. “Mhm. I think that idea might just work.”, replied an unseen voice from nearby. The heroes turned to where the voice was, and saw a man with blonde hair stylishly done, and dressed in a denim suit, sitting on one of the nearby chairs. “Who are you?!”, replied Endeavor, his fire blazing to life. “Well, the name’s Best Jeanist. And I’m a pro hero skilled in the art of clothing fibers. And in case you haven’t known; my specialties are helping people look their best and feel their best.”, he replied as he sipped his cup of hot cocoa. “Ah, that makes sense. Anyways, we were just having a discussion about-!”, began Present Mic, but the words were taken right out of his mouth. “The annual Gala and Sweepstakes? Well, I suggest you all get ready to prepare for it!”, he said with a wink and a smile, before teleporting away. A few moments later; U. A. High had sent messengers throughout the city to deliver invitations to the gala, and ensured that everyone was invited, whether they be old, young, rich, or poor. And it wasn’t long before one of the messengers, that being Pixie Bob, made her way towards the apartment building where Uraraka lived, invitations in hand.
Knock, knock, knock! Went the door. “Who could that be?”, Ochaco said as she closed her laptop and made her way towards the door, a stack of bills and a schedule for deep cleanings next to it on that very desk. Opening the door, she was greeted by Pixie Bob, who was holding a beautiful, gold embossed invitation to the titular Hero Gala. “A special delivery for you- an invite to the U. A. Hero Gala! It’s next Saturday, so don’t forget!”, she said as Ochaco took the letter. “Thank you!”, the delighted girl replied before heading back to her desk. As soon as she opened the invite, she gasped with utter delight as she saw the interior:
Dear Ochaco Uraraka,
You are cordially invited to the annual U.A. Hero Gala. This prestigious event celebrates the achievements of aspiring heroes and offers a unique opportunity to meet and interact with pro heroes and esteemed alumni.
As a special addition this year, all attendees will be entered into a sweepstakes for a fully paid scholarship to U.A. High School, covering all tuition and expenses.
We look forward to your attendance.
RVSP,
U.A. High School Administration
With a squeal of delight, Ochaco raced over to where her parents were, her eyes shining with hope and joy, something she had always felt but never in this amount. “Mom! Dad! This could be my big chance!!”, she shouted as she showed them the envelope. The moment they read over the contents, their faces lit up with absolute excitement and tears of joy. “This is incredible, Ochaco! We’re so proud of you!”, replied her father as he scooped his daughter up in a big bear hug. “You’ve worked so hard, sweetheart. This could be your big break.”, her mother said as she ruffled her daughter’s hair. “Mom, Dad, I can’t believe I’m gonna say this, but… this could be a big change. For all of us.”, said Ochaco. “That’s my girl. You’ve always been hardworking and devoted to us, and I think it’s time you have your just reward.”, replied her father.
But mere moments after the excitement, a phone call came from the nearby. “Yes?”, replied Mrs. Uraraka as she talked to whoever was on the other side. “What is it, mom?”, replied Ochaco, curiously. “Well, it seems like your friends and neighbors just got the same invite, and it seems like you and your friends are gonna have a night of fun!”, replied her mother excitedly. “Yaaay! I’m so happy! Just gotta wait one week and then we can have the night of our lives!”, cheered the young girl. After she got all the giggles out of her system, she raced downstairs to the lobby of her apartment, where her friends were waiting for her.
“Sup, Ochaco? Do you mind if you can help us and a few others get ready for the big night in a week?”, asked Jiro Kyoka as she arrived, carrying with her a sketch of her gala ensemble- that being a rockstar inspired outfit with music note iron ons, platform boots, and even shredded jeans. “Sure! I can help with all of our outfits.”, replied Ochaco, the others showing off their designs. “But I’ve always wanted to design a dress, too, and to be fair, I don’t think I’ll have enough time to finish it in time.”, she said, smiling. “It’s ok, Ochaco. We’ll find a way to help!”, replied Yuga Aoyama as he presented a sketch of his outfit: A flashy silver tuxedo with a glittering cape and golden accents. “We want our outfits to be themed around our quirks.”, replied Sero Hanta. Ochaco nodded as she and her friends began to get to work.
With one week to prepare for the night of the century, Ochaco had her work cut out for her, but she knew she had friends to count on.

Hi, Mythos!
Not sure if you've already posted about this (please feel free to ignore this ask then), but I was wondering what scenes from the drama you loved that the manga didn't have? There were many additions for the drama, especially the lectures. Also, vice versa, were there any scenes from the manga you wish the drama had?
I think the easiest answer here is episode 11’s montage in the lecture hall is such a beautiful scene and almost by far one of my most favourite scenes in the series itself.
We see kohei alone, unable to really connect with the world around him because of his poor hearing. But then we hear Taichi, and we see how Taichi’s loud and proud personality helps his world become a little less lonely. How Taichi has meant so much to Kohei as a bridge between the two worlds. It’s an absolutely gorgeous. It’s a great way the show creators utilised the fact that this is a visual/audible adaptation.
I also like how in one of the earlier episodes when taichi talked about his past, Kohei puts his foot down and asks Taichi to tell him. It’s sweet seeing Kohei get more bold and stuck up for himself. In the manga taichi does the whole “it’s fine it doesn’t matter!” And Kohei kinda is like “oh okay” which admittedly doesn’t feel all that rewarding, even a bit frustrating since it’s what Kohei has said he doesn’t like. So I’m glad the show creators made that change.
In terms of what I wanted from the manga in the show I’d say I wanted the connection to baseball back. Baseball is a symbol of what taichi lost with his parents divorce and sending him to live with his poor grandfather who could not afford to bring Taichi there. Baseball is like the sport in Japan from what I recall. Taichi is also very active. His mother grandmother says how he’s twice as full of life and fidgeted twice as much. And taking Taichi from baseball has stopped Taichi from being Taichi in a sense. It’s taken him away from a good social circle and active life. Forced to swap out the baseball bat for the work force to try and help support his grandfather have have the luxury of doing things he wants sometimes.
In both the manga and the drama we get the story of how he is a child of divorce and how it affected him but in the drama I feel like for the most part was told to us after shooting a zombie video.
In the manga it was told to us after a game of baseball Taichi got roped into (since it’s said that he used to play it as a kid) and dragged kohei along so Kohei can touch some grass. Taichi is really good. And afterwards Kohei asks about it that, which is when we get the story, but it’s more a “parents divorced. Married other people. Got sent to live with dad” in a way it’s very casual.
Taichi and Kohei both lost a part of themselves and that lead them to be distanced from normal Japanese society, in a sense, they’re “other” because of things outside of their control. Baseball is far less accessible than basketball. Baseball requires a pitch, a bat, and 2 teams to go against each other at least.
I do also wish the scene at the end had a little more oomf to it. A little more intensity in the emotions. In the manga you FEEL their intense emotions and it’s BEAUTIFUL. I wish the drama had it, might have made fans a bit more forgiving over the fact it didn’t have a kiss.
This turned into a ramble about the themes of baseball and im not actually upset about it lol.
