It wasn't often that you were called over to the Finch's house, but when you were it was usually just to watch Jem and Scout, to make sure they didn't burn the house down or anything. However, when Atticus rang you a couple minutes earlier, during the middle of the day when the kids were at school, you couldn't help but wonder why.
You knocked on the door, straightening out a crease in your skirt as you waited. The door opened, Atticus stood in the doorway, looking, well, not his best. His hair was ruffled and messy, his glasses were askew, the top few buttons of his shirt were undone, as well as his...fly? You looked away quickly, hoping he didn't notice how your eyes trailed down him, examining him carefully. However, he didn't seem to have noticed as he grabbed your arm, pulling you into the house and shutting the door behind you.

"Have you been drinking?" You ask in between deep breaths. He looks up at you with puppy eyes and smiles gently.
"I may have had a glass of two, but I'm completely sober if that's what you're worried about," he says as his hands begin to fondle your breasts. You rest your head on top of his as he bites and pulls at the skin around your collarbone, leaving small marks.

I think the reason why there's so many misconceptions of Tomura's character is because people refuse to consider AFO's role in his story outside of "he just picked him up and is slightly weird to him" Which stems from their dislike of AFO as many prefer if he just let Tomura have the reigns and retired in the background, they genuinely believed he was sincere when he said he wanted Tomura to take over his position as the symbol of evil.
They don't consider the grooming and just how much influence AFO has had over Tomura and how they take everything Tomura says at face value. I think a lot just underestimate AFOs role into shaping Tomura into who he is today, which is why we get all the "Tomura got cheated out of his rawness" or "he's an advocator for social justice!" takes.
I think if you refuse to consider AFO's role to the story and refuse to look at him beyond basic dislike of him then you're missing a huge chunk of the story and robbing yourself of an interesting character dynamic between AFO and Tomura. The body possession plotline doesn't come off as a surprise if you read more into AfO's character and Tomura's.
Yes I do think there was a wide-scale issue of people just...ignoring AFO.
He's one of those characters who was present throughout the entire story but in a way that he was haunting the narrative rather than directly participating in it.
The take you're talking about is one that I honestly don't bother debating with because anybody who thinks AFO is just some guy is...idk, not worth arguing with. But what puzzles me is the subset of raw Tomura stans who are fully aware of AFO's influence on him and yet still feel robbed by the body snatching plot...somehow.
Idk how you look at Tomura's development and be confused by the direction it went. AFO was never truly "gone" and if you look at MVA and look at the narration and the pictures separately it's almost like two entirely different stories are being told. You can EASILY see where the narration turns from a clear recollection of a memory to a distorted perspective that only JUST FORMED IN THAT MOMENT.
MVA for Tomura was the opposite of what so many people describe it as. It was not him stepping out of AFO's shadow. He literally stepped into the palms of AFO's hands and whether it was a take that formed because of weekly release of chapters at the time or not, we literally have almost all of the context surrounding MVA, so there's seriously no reason to continue thinking that MVA was a positive step forward for Tomura.
Everything that happened in MVA can easily be related to everything happening right now. Tomura broke out of AFO's possession (for now) but he didn't break out of AFO's narrative for him--that being that he's destruction incarnate with no other purpose for being alive. No, Tomura has not suddenly realized what he actually wants yet. That shit is still buried so deep, and his behavior right now rejecting the sheer concept of Izuku having any other intention besides forever opposing "his villain" shows that Tomura still views salvation as something so far beyond his reach, hence why he clings to the story AFO wrote for him because in that case, he knows the answer.
Openly crying out for help leaves room to be rejected and hurt again. Refusing to cry out for help and just forcing his counterpart to continue fighting him means he doesn't have to wonder what could be, he already knows the answer. That's why he's like this. It's because AFO convinced him that there is only one future for him, and it's a miserable one. The concept of possibly escaping it but being rejected that opportunity is too painful so Tomura clings to the story where he doesn't have to hold onto hope (even though he still is).

knuckles as a first blorbo is a really big thought sinces with the movie being a big thing, the takes on his character and his development over time, and the movie probably putting the idea of Knuckles as being sonic's most direct and prominent foil, its like.. IDK what its like but Knuckles thoughts are big on the mind so I guess one thing to think about is, what's your thoughts about brining Knuckles to his roots as Sonic's foil?
So disclaimer that I really need to see the Sonic movies and I haven't yet, but, I actually have a fair number of thoughts on Knuckles and Sonic as major foils to each other.
Sonic, y'know, attracts a lot of foils/rivals, but I would argue that Sonic and Knuckles' dynamic is very interesting because it's one of the times that the lore of sonic is actually directly talking about Freedom and what it means.
Sonic, as always, is characterized as the voice of freedom. He wants to have a good time. Half of his 'mascot with attitude' traits that endure is that he's actually not stalwartly, reliably Of Service like we think of as a hero classic- he's busy, he's bored, he wants to do things his way and the things he wants to do are entertaining.
This actually marks a conflict in Sonic's character because he cares so much about having the freedom to do his own thing, it means he can empathize with just how horrible it is to lose that freedom. So, superficially, him actually being a hero, is an easy choice to make. You see bad stuff, people being trapped and sad and not having fun, and that's a buzzkill! You're strong and talented, go fight it!
But the thing about being a hero is it's actually a commitment. And in most circumstances, the opposite of freedom isn't tyranny it's responsibility? To the point that a tyrannical environment tends to be one that mounts immense responsibility or obligations onto you without giving you any freedoms in response. But it means that the natural rival to a freedom-focused hero isn't necessarily a full-bore tyrant- it's someone with excessive responsibility.
To me, the Adventure games were incredible in how much they contextualized Knuckles. And I think it's an important point to make that in the early games, and in the Adventure games, Knuckles' problem is not gullibility. If anything, it's the opposite- he's too paranoid.
In Sonic Adventure, Eggman can insinuate to Knuckles that Sonic might also want the master emerald, and Knuckles' response, in essence, is "that's fishy, but, also, oh no, what if he is, I don't know if I can trust him, I'm suspicious of Eggman but sometimes he does actually give good information but what if-" and by the time he sees Sonic and Tails conversing over something crystalline and luminous he's worked it up in his head and punches first, questions later. And the reason why is spelled out very plainly through those two games.
Knuckles entire civilization collapsed- was leveled to ruin- over the chaos emeralds and the master emerald. Knuckles is the last survivor of that. That's more than a tragic backstory; it's an obligation. He has basically a cultural debt and shame to making sure this big shiny rock and its subsidiaries doesn't hurt anyone. In adventure 2, it's a load-bearing plot point that he lectures Rouge on the importance of the Master Emerald- that he thinks she doesn't get it because she just talks about it like it's a big jewel for a treasure room.
Knuckles is... not free. But it's not because he's ruled. It's because he's responsible. He's obligated. The fact that in one of the movie trailers, he has this exchange with Sonic of "I've been training my whole life for this" to which Sonic cheerfully rebuts, "and I've done NO training at ALL" really drives it home?
But again. It's not like Sonic lacks responsibility. Because at the end of the day, Sonic... does not want bad things to happen. He doesn't want people to get hurt. Even selfishly- because he likes people and likes the world, he doesn't want things to happen to it- he nonetheless has actually more solid of a moral code than he or anybody gives him credit for. He's lazy and selfish, but he has standards and compassion.
And on the flipside, Knuckles is... man, he's plenty young and vulnerable himself! There's only so long you can live literally alone on an island in penance for something your ancestors did so immensely long ago that even you don't remember, that you have to ask, why was it my fate to guard this? Knuckles has felt an obligation to protect the master emerald longer than he's even known why, or how to use its power.
Knuckles. wants to be able to kick back and do other things. And it feels like a betrayal to his strong-held ideals. But it's some kind of abject horror to be a teenager who can't even take a day off and mess around without constantly feeling like he's leaving the entire planet in danger of a horrifying superweapon because he's not at home babysitting a rock with everything he's got. And every time something bad happens on his watch- which it inevitably will, because he gets tired and the Master Emerald doesn't- it just reinforces to him that he should've been better.
So you have a setup of two people who have the same grander sense of morals (people should be alive and okay! it's terrible to be trapped and alone!) who nonetheless would hate each others guts on first impression (Knuckles can only see Sonic as horribly irresponsible with his gifts and with the emeralds; Sonic can only see Knuckles as a malicious obstruction who's defending bad things) and struggle to reconcile (Knuckles envying and resenting Sonic, which makes him susceptible to being led by Sonic's enemies; Sonic's own bullheaded streak making him unlikely to explain or try to deescalate before they've come to blows), but ultimately at the end of the day, they are more alike than different, and they have stuff to gain from talking to each other.
I think it's a good way to refocus Knuckles, because I think just making him Sonic's fun hang-around pal with no complications or conflict causes him to lose some of his edge. I don't have a problem with them being friends, but I think as friends, they can afford to play a little more into the hero-and-rival kind of dynamic; even once things are good, they're still competitive, it's just on friendlier terms.

hi! day 2 back from my tumblr dot com hiatus and I watched ice age for the first time in ten years.
if you don't know what ice age is, it is about a mammoth, a sloth, and a saber tooth tiger going the opposite direction of migration (so like north, where it is cold and ice) to return their beloved baby to his "herd" (his tribe). obviously all taking place during the ice age.
overall, the movie was... ok, I guess. the animation? absolutely horrendous. but pretty ahead of it's time. the story? WHY DO I LIKE IT THIS MUCH.
(the jokes were RLLY cheesy tho)
ok onto the post. I am not sorry
here is all of the homoromantic undertones that I gathered in the 2002 animated movie 'ice age'
•   ok, so in the beginning there is literally 2 male rhinos who share a salad together and one saves the dandelion for the other. they r practically background characters but CLEARLY husbands
•   sid:  "you have beautiful eyes :)"
    manfred:   "get off of me >:("
•   sid calling manfred 'manny' affectionately
•   they find the baby and immediately have this sort of. yknow. married couple energy
•    diego makes this known by saying, and I LITERALLY quote, "'Us'? You two are a bit of an odd couple." and then when manfred says that 'there is no us' he says, "I see. can't have one of your own, so you want to adopt." (diego says gay rights)
•    (immediately after diego says this, manfred and sid go on to argue like a married couple.)
•     now they r all together!! baby starts crying. sid has to be responsible to shut it up like the male-wife he is.
•     they ALL take turns trying to cheer the baby up
•     (LITERALLY ACTING LIKE NEWLY WEDS WITH A NEWBORN, I KID YOU NOT)
•     "his nose is dry, that means something's wrong." "he's wearing one of those baby thingjes" "so?" "if he poops, where does it go?" ".......humans are disgusting." "I bet he's hungry. how about some milk?" "I'd love some" "NOT YOU. the baby."
•      they all, as a team, fight a whole troop of dodos to get food for their baby

•     yknow that thing in movies where the wife is like "we're lost ask the guy for directions" and the husband denies it? this literally happens between manfred and sid.
•     they play charades with a squirrel. diego flicks him into the sun to Burn.
•     cue the iconic slide scene that lasts for like idk two or three minutes straight. diego breaks character and gets pumped up. manfred and sid stare at him like "dude we almost lost our kid r u nuts"
•     manfred has this. revelation after realizing that he has been missing a family in his life and comes to terms with the fact that, oh my god, I need to get this baby back home.
•      he immediately becomes SUCH a dad after that
•     Manfred saves Diego's life and diego is like. oh my god. I love these guys. and this whole time he has been leading them into a trap to kill them
•      manfred almost dies. diego RLLY feels shitty after that
•      sid creates fire. "from now on, you can refer to me as Sid, Lord of the Flame. from now on I will call you Diego,"
       diego: "lord of touch me and you're dead."
       diego:  ".....NAH I'm just kidding you little knucklehead <3"
•      manfred calls diego and sid lovebirds.
•      baby takes his first steps, and they all share this tender, loving look between one another :))
•      "look at that, our little guy is growing up."
•      once manfred goes to sleep, sid and diego gush over him. "I've never had a friend who would risk his life for me." "yeah, manny's a good guy :)"
•      then comes the part where diego leads them into the trap and he feels awful and nervous about it.
•      manfred gets angry. >:(( but diego feels rlly bad and wants to save them :((
•      the other saber tooths come. sid tricks them into thinking he is holding the baby. and when they find out he isn't, he runs away.
•     he goes to where the baby actually is. gentle little sid moment..
•     manfred gets cornered by diego and the leader of the tigers. diego turns on his leader to save his husband.
•      diego risks his life like how manfred risked his. almost dies. he tells sid and manfred to leave him and get the baby to his family :((
•     "we were some team, huh?"
•     diego to the baby: "you gotta be strong. you have to take care of manfred and sid. especially sid."
•     manfred and sid take the baby home. tender moment. sid and manfred are both sad to see him go :((
•     "don't forget about us, ok? we won't forget about you."
•     SURPRISE diego ends up living!! sid runs to him, relieved.
•     "you're ok!"
       "nine lives, baby"
       "you're ok. I could kiss ya!"
•     (if I remember correctly, sid does kiss diego's head multiple times)
•     manfred asks diego if he needs to hitch a ride. ends up giving sid a ride instead.
•     ends the movie with something about sid saying that it will be the best migration ever and then something about global warming idk!

i don't think biphobia is a "systemic" thing but it exists interpersonally. since heterosexuality is considered the norm, anything outside of that is hated. when ppl say biphobia they don't mean ppl being a little rude to them about opposite sex attraction or something but they use it to talk about discrimination they face specifically for being bi, like idk what to tell you if you don't think there are people out there who hate bisexuals specifically. different marginalized groups are marginalized in different ways, this is true for everything, so why is it hard to accept in this case? whether or not you think it's "real" doesn't stop negative attitudes towards bisexuals from being prevalent, it doesn't stop people getting dumped or fired or ridiculed for being bisexual. biphobia certainly doesn't imply gay people are somehow privileged over us, (i disagree with some of the other reply) but it does show that we experience the marginalization differently. which is true. homophobia obviously still exists. i will not stop using 'biphobia' nor will other bisexuals because it illustrates our experiences and brings us community over the shared struggle. it is a tool and i sincerely don't get why you're upset at how another non heterosexual group talks about their experiences. why say "people who hate bisexuals" "people who think negatively of bisexuals" when we can just say biphobes? you bring up the 'biphobic lesbians' thing but i would say that biphobia from straight people is a lot more prevalent and a lot of the accusations thrown at lesbians for being biphobic are from the gendie crowd. there is a lot of 'homophobic bisexuals' talk too so it really can go in both directions. yes, some of these tend to be more severe but they're both issues to be solved in my opinion. you say bisexuals are only discriminated against on the basis of same-sex attraction but our sexuality can't be split into two. it's not some oppressed gay half vs the privileged straight half, we are just fully bisexual. our ssa and osa cannot just be neatly confined and separated from each other. it is an entirely separate category from heterosexual and from homosexual, so the way people treat us and the way people view our sexuality is unique to us. i do think some bisexuals certainly are advantaged in life over homosexuals, but this does not mean biphobia is a completely made up nonsensical thing that no one ever suffers from.
idk what to tell u. i very explicitly spoke against the argument that biphobia is a form of oppression and a systematic thing. i did not say anywhere that bi people do not face discrimination or prejudice on an individual level, nor do i think has anyone else i agreed with. biphobia is often used to refer to a systematic oppression and argue that gay & het people unite under the axis of 'monosexuality' to oppress bisexuals so i also dont know why ur acting like gay ppl are insane for saying gay ppl don't oppress bisexuals. this is only a statement being made bc this is something that has been repeatedly argued

Not "autistic anon," but also autistic, (being called maybe ableist made me want to put this out there before go to bed) i thought Zane was depicted that way purposefully by the writers. He has stereotypical traits like taking things literally, and has an actual humor switch. The writers have done things with Zane before like have him lose bodily autonomy (during that one Wu's teas short) and did something with his voice be it making him unable to be understood or talking too loud and the forced pirate voice by Jay. (what you're doing isn't too different from that, right?) I thought it was just a little iffy to distort his body and memory bc that could be interpreted as something not that I'm sure what exactly, it's some kind of disability. I dunno. I'm not good with putting this to words. I hope this makes sense.

Im a little confused but I think I get what you're saying? You're saying the Ninjago writers absolutely DON'T write Zane well (you listed examples of this) and you don't want me to fall into the same trap?
I had the opposite logic earlier. I thought: If Ninjago writers made Zane have stereotypical autisitic traits while also being a dehumanized robot, I may as well embrace it, say he is autistic blatantly, while also making him do funny/cool non-human robot things, so its clear as possible the two aspects of his character are literal and separate and not a metaphor for each other. But you're right! I do have a choice and I dont have to embrace things! :)
Like there were a couple ways I was gonna reject the original, for example, I never wanted Zane to have a funny switch, and I hated how other characters could fuck with Zane and he didn't even care 😬. I want to change that stuff. So youre right, if I am changing shit like that, it would be counterproductive for ME to GIVE him MORE traits along that theme. 😬😬😬 I should try to feel less obligated to portray Zane like he originally is. I still like the concept of "scary zane" (for reasons i explain below the cut) but I might tone it down a bit like with the claws and weird proportions and shit. I’d def make him look more skeletal and undead. That was my original intention, but i didnt execute it as good as I could have.... idk if anyone could tell thats what he was supposed to be like...my bad! But rn I dont wanna redesign him I wanna draw other stuff like normal alive Zane. Sorry LMAO 😳. Like I said in some earlier asks I think, I think Im gonna focus rn on how I should portray season 1 normal not dead Zane so thank you and feel free to share any other Zane thoughts ^_^ SOME OTHER THOUGHTS:
Also I Wanna Argue Some Stuff But I Understand its a Weak Argument Since All of This Context was Just In My Brain (so don't take this as an argument, just as me rambling): I don't want messed up things to happen to Zane and for it to just be ignored. I think if Zane is going to have fucked up things happen to him, as all characters must, its best for it to happen during a season where he actually addresses his feelings about being a robot (learning to accept that he will always be himself, regardless if hes "human" or the "original" or whatever. (thats how I always interpreted his emotions)). But I wouldn't have the other Ninja be very phased by Zane's looks because the whole point is they already love who he is (seasons 1-3 were about getting to know Zane) and now Zane himself just has to learn the physical, robot part of him is okay. Its about person-hood rather than humanity. Because the season focuses around Zane's soul, and because he lost his original body, I feel like I could mess around with his current, temporary body and have fun and make it scary. Because that body should be irrelevant. I understand it possibly being upsetting for an autistic character to be designed like this, but other people I talked to see it the opposite way. They find it comforting for him to look so different but still be himself and be so loved. SO IM ABSOLUTELY NOT saying its wrong to be bothered or to hate it or to feel any way. Just that I personally think it would be cool for Zane to be portrayed with a little spice lol, so thats why I like scary Zane for season 4.
Another Thing I Wannna Say But Is REALLY Hypocritical: (this isnt directed at anyone I just REALLY want to say this) I know I say "this is Zane but scary, he looks like fnaf" so he's obviously dehumanized, but I always felt like "scary" is more of an objective fact. Its an instinct. But what's "not human" is subjective. I think there is a problem with saying anything different from "average" human is dehumanized because that could extend to real people. Lol I know its bad for me to compare FNAF-ass Zane to real people, but I mean he could be real. People can have exposed teeth, and people can be shaped weird. And when someone first sees a person who looks like that they'll probably think "woah those features are scary" by instinct. And that surprise doesn't make someone ableist obviously. But bring that person’s humanity into question is NOT an instinct, and is fucked to shit. This is kinda a bad point for me to make since its about the fictional FNAF Zane I drew, and I am NOT implying ANYONE was thinking like this. [especially not the original asker anon who I am totally forgetting about at this point OOPS]. But I just thought it was an opinion of mine I couldn't go without mentioning when talking about dehumanization and disabilities.

I think this because you started to bring physical disabilities up and you said it was "a little iffy." ^_^ So we agree, but I don't see Zane's relation to real life disabilities as "a little iffy" I see it more like "complicated"? IF THAT DIFFERENCE EVEN MAKES ANY SENSE?????? I feel like a lot of things about Zane are really just complicated and need the right context, rather than the concepts necessarily being wrong -- NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT! THATS THE WHOLE REASON I DO THIS STUPID REWRITE! XD thats why a lot of my rewrite SO FAR has been the same concepts and plot beats, but different dialogue n specifics and such. I like a lot of concepts in Ninjago but I dont think they were presented correctly.....! :( So I guess all we can do is wait and see if I make Zane offensive or not....???
Also something about the memory part - yeah i agree i was surprised no one thought that was weird to make jokes out of his memory issues..... BUT I am like 100% firm on making his memory take longer to come back because I think its stupid how quick Zane was able to recover from literally dying. Like its just dumb to me. Hate it. (also bc memory & soul mechanics is ummm kinda important in my rewrite.... for reasons). Another memory thing btw, I was going to make his original amnesia come from hitting his head in an attack against the Skulkin when they stole his dads corpse, rather than his dad fucking choosing to make him forget. (its a sweet & iconic scene, but Um, WHY?!!!?!?!?!?) He has to follow data recovery instructions he finds in his dads diary. I think in that context it makes moments of memory loss somewhat different for Zane's character? Instead of loss of autonomy associated with disability, its a literal violent loss of autonomy associated with being traumatized by physical force. Idk how to phrase it exactly but I think that makes some vibes different?
Sorry, I think I got really distracted, and I don't know if I responded well to your points. Because uhhhh I think I agree with your stance actually? If I understand correctly? Fuck Ninjago writers for making the robot lose autonomy (a stereotypical robot theme) while also making him seem clearly autistic (NOT A HAPPY THEME FOR AUTISTIC PEOPLE) and not addressing it. And also auuugh Zane with a weird body is a difficult topic - kinda sussy pretty iffy.

This is dumb probably but I'm young and idk things and you're always talking about politics ... could you explain the difference between socialism and capitalsim? People in the US are always saying socialism is so bad but i don't really understand why like doesn't it just mean equality?
(this is so long I’m so sorry, no one should ever ask me toexplain anything)
Okay so … first a disclaimer; I am a social/culturalhistorian and not an economic historian so I come at this issue through asocial lens rather than a purely economic one. That being said …. socialism andcapitalism of course are economic systems, but they are far more importantly social systems. They’reboth, but they are social systems first, and the economic aspect builds itselfaround the social. When you boil both systems down to their basic, fundamentalprinciples, their main difference is a discrepancy in how they view what itmeans to be human.
Simply put: capitalism is a system that runs on the basicprinciple that being alive is not something that all humans deserve. The verybasic things that humans need to survive – food, water, shelter, healthcare,etc. – are not things that are provided for everyone in a capitalist system.This is because capitalists quite literally do not believe that every human hasthe intrinsic right to be alive. A capitalist system instead operates on thebelief that the right to be alive is something that humans have to earn. Capitalists believe that the worthof a human life is entirely contingent on that human’s ability to accumulatecapital (whether that’s through the production of goods, or labor, or amarketable skill, etc.) In a capitalist system, a billionaire who works 60hours a week and earns lots of money, has far more of a right to be alive thana homeless person who doesn’t work and earns no money.
Socialism is basically the opposite. Socialists believe thata human’s right to be alive is contingent only on the fact that they are ahuman. They believe that the billionaire who works has no more or less right tobe alive than the homeless person, because they believe life itself is a humanright and shouldn’t depend on whether you can earn money and contribute to thelarger economy. They believe the things required by humans to stay alive (food,water, shelter, healthcare, etc.) are not things that a person should have toearn, but are basic human rights that everyone should have no matter who theyare or how much money they have.
Socialism is not the boogeyman that conservative capitalistsmake it out to be. When these types of (usually corrupt and morally repugnant)individuals describe socialism, they describe a system where every penny thatis earned by every citizen in a country is automatically funneled into a hugegovernment bank account, and then the government divides that amount equallyamong all the citizens, so that the person who works 60+ hours a week is giventhe same amount on a government cheque as the homeless person who works 0hours. This is not socialism. Tbh, this is not anything at all. Right-wingcapitalists have made this up. This system has never existed, and probablynever would exist because it makes no sense. Look to Scandinavian countrieslike Sweden and Finland for examples of good socialism: there are still richand poor people in these countries. Not every single person in these countriesmakes the exact same amount of money. The gross domestic product (GDP) is notdivided up among the citizens and distributed by weekly salaries from thegovernment. But every person is taken care of (more or less), when it comes tobasic human necessities.
There is no perfect economic system. Socialism would notsolve every single problem. Capitalism as an ideologydoes have positives – such as the idea of healthy competition in the free market (in reality themarket is not free and never has been, but as an abstract idea, it’s a nicethought.) But when conservatives treat hypothetical socialism as if it is a bigscary monster that will just make everyone poor, just know that they do thisdisingenuously. They are lying to you. They want tocontinue the status quo because they’re earning tons of money from it. Socialismis not a monster. The fact that certain counties have triedit and fucked it up, is not evidence that the ideology itself is fucked up.It’s extremely easy to argue that America’s version of capitalism is fucked up,and you don’t see any American politicians going after capitalism in the sameway they go after socialism. It is entirely possible to have a flourishingdomestic economy where people can get rich, but that also takes basic care of all citizens. It just requires adramatic departure from the Western cult of individualism that has plagued ourworld for the last several decades.
One final thing to note, is that capitalism is currently incrisis. It’s a huge part of the reason things have been so shitty for the lastnumber of years. A capitalist system requires the rich to get richer and thepoor to get poorer. This is not like an unfortunate consequence of the system,this IS this system. And the system isn’t sustainable. Those two things can’tcontinue in opposite directions into infinity. The poor can’t keep getting poorerforever. There comes a breaking point where they get so poor that they can’tafford to keep themselves alive anymore and they all die, which fucks up therich too because then billionaires have no minimum-wage laborers to exploit forprofit. The wider that wealth gap gets, the closer capitalism gets to collapsingin on itself. And when capitalism is in crisis, historically, the people in power(aka the people with money) blame vulnerable minority groups (racialminorities, religious minorities, immigrants, refugees, etc.) This is done verypurposely. It serves to direct the anger of the uneducated masses at eachother, causing all this in-fighting, so that those people don’t direct their anger at the people in power whose fault itreally is. If there’s anyone reading this who has believed the Western (largelyAmerican) line that capitalism is freedom and socialism is communist Russia,you have been lied to. You have been lied to by a small percentage of peoplewith money and power, who profit off of you believing their lies and furtheringa corrupt, fundamentally unsustainable system.
