It was an accident!! Trully. But your steps were too quiet for him to notice.

You just wanted to catch up with your friend Stu before class started, luckily you had his locker number memorized. Walking behind him, you happened to catch a glampse of something shiny in the locker, taking a better look, you noticed It was knife.

It was a beautiful spear point pocket knife.

Stu put the blade back inside the locker and closed It before he saw you.

Oh shit

Stu bought It because he thought It looked pretty and was gonna bring It to him home after school. It wasn't something he often scared with people, being the "cool guy" with a knife fixation wasnt...uhh...normal.

So when he saw you looking directly into his locker, then him, he briefly jumped and stammered to find a distraction.

"Geez! Oh uh- Hey man.."

He laughted nervously, brushing his hair then sending a finger gun at your direction, leaning his back agaisnt his locker, as If you could see right throught the metal.

"What are...what are you doing here dude?"

He chuckled.

You couldn't quite catch what he was nervous about really. But what you Really were interested in was the knife.

"Nice blade"

You said pointing to his locker. Despite his inicial suprise, the Stu you knew quickly came back, it was like he was a sun light, brightening his smile that showed off his gums.

"You like knifes?"

You couldn't help but smile at that, Stu's sheer happiness was intoxicating in a way.

"Yeah! I got a couple back home...wanna see?"

He was delighted, to put it simply.

"If I wanna see? Of course I do! What kind of question is that?"

He laughts. Wrapping an arm around your shoulders, and then guiding you back to class.

"this ought to be fun" you thought

You decided to walk home toguether that day, Stu said bye to his friends and you two were now heading to your home. Luckily, your parents weren't gonna be home for a while, so you had your home to yourselves.

Now in your room, Stu patiently waited while seated on your bed for you to grab your knifes.

"So...why do collect knifes? Are you some sort of a..psycho?"

He chuckles, (totally projecting onto you btw), bur youre not amused

"I mean...I I've used it before but never on people"

'on people'? That was certainly an interesting choice of words Stu thought

"Really? Then that implies you've used it before"

I got you now! Stu smirked, rolling onto his bed so now he was onto his belly. His ching being supported by his hands and legs moving uo and down, like he was a stereotypical teenage girl.

But you weren't amused. Stu was just like that. Like teasing other with stupid, some times, morbid jokes. So you decided to play along. You grabbed a random knife from your cabinet and turned around to face him, matching his smirk and overall atitude.

"Oh yeah, totally. Do you want to be my first human one tho?"

And boy the way he just stopped, like he was actually moved by it. Not im a bad way per say.

Stu was no stranger to the usage of knifes. Him and his dad had gone in many hunting trips and he certaingly has gutted enough animals to know whats it's like to feel the blood underneath your nails.

On a human?...he can't say he has never considered it

But on himself? He never thought about it, but at the same time, he didnt quite hate the idea.

How would guts feel between fidgety fingers.

He was in such a transe he didn't even realize he forgot to answer you. You simply watched from the outside how this dilly questions completelly froze him.

"hey? Earth to Stu?"

You moved closer to him, snapping your fingers to get his attention. And just like that, he sprung back up, grabbing your wrist and giving you that creepy (silly) wide eyed look.

"Let's do this"

"What"

"I said let's do this. What? Are you a coward?"

You let out a small chuckle, trying not to show you actually felt angry that he thinks you WOULDN'T accept such a deal.

"Sure, but I won't go easy on you. It'll hurt"

"Oh I'm counting on it"

One thing let to another and now you found yourself on top of him, one hand keeping his shirt up, and another holding the blade with the other.

Stu as of now was like a wounded animal, not in the sense he was scared or even feared the upcoming pain one bit, but in the sense that, you have him in your grasp, althought he technically has the strenght to push you off and flip the roles he just...chooses not to. And what's so wrong in indulding in that

The first slash was mostly a experimental on, to see just how big his pain tolerance really was, and to see if you actually had the guts for it. Luckily both answers were satisfactory for the moment as it didnt draw too much blood, but it just made you hungry for more.

Was that concerning, maybe a little bit, but it didn't matter at that moment. It was just you, him, the knife, and the blood.

You could already picture yourself gutting him open and seing how pretty those guts must look like. But oh well he might not survive that so the vivisection will have to wait.

You weren't going for a pattern per say, simply making some cuts here and there, seeing where it hurt more or hurt less. Stu could be heard laughting in pain and amusement ocasionally so...

...

You got your medkit and decided to put a random a random slasher flick you happened to own on the tv to serve as background noise

"Hey, I'm bleeding here"

Stu was quick to complain, but it was just to tease you, again

"Relax I'm not forgeting you sweetheart"

You sat down next to him again, the movie now serving as background noise to the two of you, grabbing some cotton, rubbing alcohool and cleaning the cuts. It felt intimate and yet casual. Stu was quick to break the not so silence

"Next time I'm using the knife"

"Next time? Why not right now?"

"Because I'm tired. Dumbass."

"Oh so you tire easily?"

He rolled his eyes and chuckled

"Shut up man"

As you finished patching him up, he wrapped his arms around you and started speaking in a mock-ish, melodramatic tone

"Augh, you're not gonna just leave me are youuuu?"

You simply scoffed, he was just being his usual self, nothing new in that

"Ummm...this is MY room?"

"Oh right, oopsies"

He then scooted even more closer to you, if that was possible, with you wrapping your arms back around him, yeah you could get used to this. It felt nice.

Boppers, hear me out.

Victor is Luther's father.

Ok, now, you might be thinking: "what the actual fuck are you talking about?" Well, in this essay I'll expose favorable arguments to my theory/theses/head canon that, in the album, captain Victor is Luther's father. Keep your radio tuned tight, boppers, bcs I might be crazy OR I might be onto something.

(There will be spoilers)

1. First of all...

For context, Victor is the cop that kills Fox. He's played by David Patrick Kelly, the actor who plays Luther in the original movie, The Warriors (1979). This alone is a huge reason for me to believe that they are somehow connected, BUT THERE'S MORE!

I think we already established that what a character claims to be their reason for doing something is not always their real reasoning, or, at least, not the entirety of it. I do believe Luther kills Cyrus because he enjoys the chaos and has a lot of hate in his heart, as Swan wisely says, but I don't think that's all.

We have hints among his lines that he's also misogynistic and racist. "Well, duh?" You might say, because there were few white men who weren't those things by the time this story takes place, but sometimes we may underestimate how heavy this stuff weighs in the narrative. If he really likes chaos that much, why not kill, Idk, a police captain? That would certainly create generalized chaos just as he likes, but instead, he deliberately targets marginalized groups' leadership — he kills a black woman, a powerful black woman who was trying to unite her community.

She was obviously an obstacle for the cops to keep up with their oppression towards these groups because unity is strength, and all they don't want is strong communities that knows their rights and won't accept to be chased down like animals when they've done nothing but trying to survive.

In the very first track of the album, the question "but is Cyrus atractin' police action?" Is asked. The answer we find further on, especially when the police invades Van Cortlandt Park right after she's killed, is: *yes*, of course she is.

* Also, the timing here is too convenient, don't you think? Just like the police knew exactly when to attack, when the desperate crowd would be disorganized, when they would be easy prey... anyways 😛

2. That weird af phone call

Now that we have established that there would be a lot of interest on the police's part to have Cyrus killed, let's move on to the next topic.

Suddenly, without any further context or this being ever mentioned again, Luther talks to *someone* on the telephone. This happens in the album, and in the movie as well, it is not confirmed who the hell Luther was talking to on that phone call. I've already seen some people theorizing that he has contacts inside the force and that he's talking to them, and I agree, but I think he's not talking with some random cop, I believe he's talking to Victor.

Come think with me: how did Luther instantly knew Ajax had been taken by the cops ("Holy shit, Warrior down [...] Picked the wrong fight / now she's in for a long night", I'll talk about this later btw), and most importantly, what exactly was Victor doing at Union Square's station?

Let's compare this approach with Barnes' one at the park.

Barnes was alone in the bench, and only when Ajax approached him (and started beating the shit out of him), he called for police reinforcements. It didn't feel planned, even tho he was trying to bait them to come closer to him, I think it was much more about sexual harassment than him actually intending to arrest them. With Victor, however, it doesn't feel like a random encounter.

"Officers are on the scene". This line repeats a lot during Reunion Square, that alone indicates that there are a group of cops there, like they've been called. They knew the Warriors, specifically the Warriors, would be there, and why was it so important for them to get the Warriors if they're just a "likkle Coney Island crew"? Because Luther would be FUCKED if the Riffs reached them alive.

Of course, the Riffs could just not believe the girls, but he was not willing to risk it — after the phone call, Luther tells Cropsy the Riffs wanted the Warriors alive, but they don't. And he was right, wasn't him? Cleon being alive and telling the Riffs the truth was the only reason for him to be caught and... well, we don't know for sure what they did to him, but we can imagine they weren't gentle.

That being said, we have strong evidence that Luther was in touch with the cops, else he would have no way of knowing Ajax was grounded. And Victor needed a reason to be there as well; not only an informant, but also a motive, and if we consider the theory that he was talking to Luther, we have both things.

3. Trust in the impunity of a daddy's boy

During the entire musical, Luther thinks he can get away with about everything. I atribute that not only to the fact that he's a white man targeting women of color, but he must also have other reasons to believe he's immune to justice of any kind, and there's where I start to try to convince you that he's Victor's son.

I mean, when Cropsy shows that he's worried the Riffs would go after them, Luther, rather ignorantly, responds with "they're looking for the Warriors, remember?" As if the fact that the Riffs are going after the Warriors is enough for him to believe they would never even think about interrogating them, trying to find the murder weapon, etc.

This behavior suits someone that has never been held accountable for any misdeeds at all, and who would fit this description better than a cop's son?

Let alone that Victor is a captain. He holds even MORE power within the police. Being the son of a cop, even if you're a fucking gang member, you'd feel safe enough to do just whatever the fuck you want without even thinking about the consequences.

Like, how many times he could have been caught doing something illegal, just tell the cops "do you know who my father is?" AND IT ACTUALLY WORKING? I firmly believe he was the one to inform the cops about all of this — the gathering, the Warriors' location, and the fact that he needed daddy to arrest the women who could potentially cause something to happen to him, because the Riffs are not the police, they'd not give af abt who his father is, even someone like him would have to be a little worried about being taken by them.

4. Fox & Luther — Parallels

I bet you did not see that one coming. "What do you mean there's something in common between Fox and Luther specifically that makes Victor killing her an interesting parallel with his (supposed) son?"

Well, games. That's kinda it. Old games.

So, there are only two characters that canonically like games in the musical, because they actually mention them: Fox ("A-yo I'll take you on an Odyssey like Magnavox") and Luther (with his multiple references to Pacman during the entire thing and other game expressions, like "I was at the top of the screen when I took that shot")

The Magnavox Odyssey is actually mentioned on the movie (according to my own father. I confess I don't remember this part, but I trust my nerdy father who actually have a connection with old consoles to notice that) by the Lizzies (fem version of the Bizzies), and Fox was not even there at the moment. Actually, movie Fox does not have a lot of... personality, if you ask me, he was kinda irrelevant. Anyways, even if Lin and Eisa wanted to reference this specific part in which the Lizzies offer to play Odyssey with the Warriors to lure them, why not have the Bizzies saying that? Why Fox?

Because that would be a bitter irony in the future. I might be crazy, BUT HEAR ME OUT, Victor killing a young woman that shared his son's interest for games was a foreshadowing for him being responsible for Luther's death as well — because he failed.

This is other thing they share: they failed. Victor failed to stop the Warriors from going home, Luther failed to kill Cyrus and blame the Warriors with no consequences, they failed together at silencing them, and this CAUSED Luther's (probable) death.

5. A gang member who endorses the police?

Ok, this last section is based in my belief that, even tho the crews fight and have their diferences, they all share a common enemy: the cops. That was the reason for them to accept the truce after all, the cops are their common enemy.

But somehow that doesn't feel true for the Rouges.

First of all, they killed Cyrus, which obviously means they were not in favor of the truce. But why? They sure would suffer from police brutality too if they were a normal gang. And we can all agree that they are even more violent than the average gang (I mean... have you listened to their leader?).

Also, this line intrigues me.

I mean, "picked the wrong fight"? It is clear that Luther's view is biased to take the cops' side. In this case, one could argue that his misogyny would play a big part on him diminishing Ajax's will to fight against an abuser. Anyhow, I think that this evidences that, even tho he's a gang member, he has a strong connection with the police.

CONCLUSION

I think we can all agree that Luther has something going on with the police, and I hope I have convinced you that he has something going on with Victor specifically.

It is possible to argue that their connection is only "tactical", or even go as far as to say that they are friends or something (tho, I don't think that's possible. One thing about brats like the Rouges: they don't go well with old people, with all due respect. I don't personally see this working as a friendship), but I'll stand with the father-son relationship till the day I die!!

Said man you were marrying was..far from kind. He always beat you if you did anything wrong or said something out of place in his eyes. Since that day you traveled the ocean with him gaining your own bounty and wanted poster. It had only been a year since he saved you when he proposed. You were fascinated by it and would often ask him questions.

You had been married for quite a few years, always having each others backs whenever you fought, or he’d let you light a buggy ball if he was feeling extra nice. You rarely fought, but soon after Luffy humiliated him and got away, he swore vengeance. You thought it was bad already with him despising shanks, but now Luffy to? The boy just seems playful and immature. Nothing different from buggy. And this sparked an argument.

“I don’t understand Buggy, you hate shanks, and now you hate the child he helped raise? It was low of you to even put the kid in the tank in the first place!” You were pacing the circus floor wringing your hands together. You turned to him as he began yelling about vengeance and how could she betray him in such a way.

“You don’t understand! You weren’t the one bullied all your life! You had a nice simple life after I left! You married a marine if I’m not mistaken” He yelled and raised a hand to make a point, but his face was one of confusion when you flinched back and covered your face.

“I promise I’ll do better”

The words had slipped out before you knew what you were saying. Buggy’s eyes widened and he lowered his hand gently. Did that marine bastard���no… “What did they do to you?” You looked up tearfully and before you could even begin to talk buggy pulled you in for a hug and hid his own tears. He didn’t care if any of his crew walked in. You were his damned flashy wife, and he blamed himself for not coming to the village sooner, hell he blamed himself for not taking you with him originally.

“I love you…my flashy little wife” he whispered in your ear and you smiled through the tears. You placed a kiss on his jaw “I love you to my flashy fool.”

A long rant about my version of Jasper's listener: Jasmine

So I've seen a lot of tiny version, and I had mine but I rarely draw her. Meet Jasmine!

Also these are art from March-June about her that I never post

Story time

She was made fully based on my appearance, with the short hair and tall girl trait. But Jasper keep calling his listener tiny so I tried to make the listener fits the role.

So I made the character have longer hair and shorter height. Also I made my tiny to be mute. Because in the audio, Jasper do all the yapping so I made Jasmine a total listener because she cant talk. And voila!

Also around March to June 2024. I made a brainstrom about the story of Jasper and Jasmine because I planned to publish the story online. But because of many things, I only keep the story in my mind :P

A little backstory of Jasmine. Shes a child from a bitch? (IDK WHATS THE RIGHT WORD IN ENGLISH) whos in a secret relationship with a rich married man. And then her mom got imprisoned because she abused her child (out of stress), so Jasmine lives in her father house. Because shes a disgrace in her new family, everyone kinda ignore her existence.

Jasmine wasnt born mute, but because of her shitty life she decided to be one, and only talk with people she trust and plants because shes crazy. But one of her stepbrother, lets call him Jason, get pity of her and decided to take care of her. (Also Jason's role before was an ex of Jasmine but logically a girl like her wont pull a guy)

But then the relationsip between Jasmine and Jason kinda screwed and guess who the problem is? Its Jasmine. Because shes really depended on Jason, she became toxic, controlling, protective, blablabla. And then since Jasmine has no one else, she decided to calm herself to the forest (smort girl)

And then boom she meets Jasper, just like the story on the audio. Jasper notices that Jasmine is mute, so he does all the talking while theyre going to the tree stand. Until she fall for Jasper's trap and get captivated. But because Jasmine doesnt even scream when Jasper hurt or threat her, Jasper thinks its boring and useless to torture her and just keep Jasmine there by injured her knee.

However, because of the stress and pressure, Jasmine start to think that Jasper is care about her just because Jasper has no one else to talk to. Let alone the fact that Jasper try to draw Jasmine out of boredom. Because in her family Jasmine was completely ignored, she feels like her captor treats her better and giving all of his attention to her. In the other hand, Jasper keep Jasmine alive because shes only his emergency food supply.

One day, a lost hiker came and of course Jasper try to lure them. But then turns out the hiker was armed with gun (AND THE DOGS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD ATP), and Jasper was cornered, until Jasmine help him somehow.

That night Jasper treats Jasmine human meat.

The next day, of course Jasper bring up about Jasmine's action. She cant answer, not because she prentends to be mute, but she also confuse with herself. Then Jasper brainwash her, saying that Jasmine is already broken (physically and mentally) so her family wouldnt want Jasmine anymore, so it'd be best if Jasmine stay as Jasper's emergency food supply.

Things have been peaceful after that since Jasmine willing to stay. Jasper teach her a few thing to work on so that Jasmine can be useful, maybe like how to sharpen a knife, make a campfire, even hunting (Also I made her character to love fixing things at first, so thats why Jasper keep her in the first place). Also Jasper teach her how to walk properly again because he injured Jasmine when they first met. Because of the interaction, Jasmine get even more attached to Jasper, even tho he's still annoying as hell.

But that doesnt last long because Jason (the stepbrother) finds her. At first he thought that Jasper is a good person who take care of his missing stepsis, until Jasper strike him and they get into a fight. But because Jason is still her family, Jasmine stop Jasper from killing him when Jason is knocked out.

Now Jasper is the one who fight Jasmine, he broke her knee (again) so she wont be able to interfere the killing process. He says that Jasmine doesnt need him anymore because Jasmine are his property blablaba. But suddenly Jason secretly get conscious and strike Jasper from behind. Jason doesnt hold back and kill Jasper. Meanwhile Jasmine forced to watch and cant interfere because of her broken knee, and its the first time she finally screams, begging Jason to stop, but its too late.

Jason then brings Jasmine back, and things only got worse for Jasmine in her old family because shes already broken. So, she continue her life with much more trauma.

The End

Also why her name is Jasmine? Its because it start with 'Jas' like Jasper and have 'mine' in the end, idk its cute and matched with Jasper.

Okay Jameson thoughts...

Basic childhood info: His parents were graphite miners. He grew up near the coast of Thirteen with two sisters (one younger, one older). He went to school until age 17 and then enlisted to avoid being forced to work in the mines (I always feel so silly saying "in the mines", idk why). Then he went through officer training in Six to bypass the "must have graduated secondary school" requirement to become an officer mentioned in TBOSAS. He became a pilot, but because he's from the districts, he usually just worked as a co-pilot for Capitol pilots (this comes into play in ch6 too!)

Fun facts related to his career: He's an excellent navigator, it's like he has a compass in his head, and he's never once gotten lost. He, similar to Arvada, wanted to be a pilot because it's the furthest thing from "trapped underground" that one could get.

He has a wife, of course, Calla, and two (technically three) children (Jenaveve, who he had when he was 20, and Roman, who he had when he was 22, and Amara, who is not born yet in the Blue Blooded timeline).

His father died when he was 23 (actually right before Blue Blooded starts). The song "Old Man" by Neil Young really reminds me of him, specifically the verse:

Old man, look at my life Twenty four and there's so much more Live alone in a paradise That makes me think of two

Love lost, such a cost Give me things that don't get lost Like a coin that won't get tossed Rolling home to you

But basically the whole song has this feeling of reluctant acceptance, because I think that is what Boggs has done up until this point. He despises the Capitol, and sees through their cruelty better than most characters (him being the first to mention that the Capitol is afraid of those who speak other languages, the whole "we wouldn't want to ruin the Capitol's air quality" quote in ch3 when the fire is burning through D2, his knowledge that the Capitol is recruiting officers to 11 in ch4) but he hasn't been able to take action. I think this translated into him being rather resigned, which was heightened by his father's death. He wanted to escape his parents fate by enlisting, and as such became somewhat of a traitor to his people, and his father's death makes this very clear to him. He has to reason with his purpose, and comes to the conculsion that life needs to be enjoyed while it is still in his grasp, so he focuses a lot of energy into his family because it is something he can control, whereas his position is no longer within his control.

Because of that, he's an excellent father. The best. And an excellent husband. he had his wife have an adorable little house with New England style shingles on the outside. Like this vibe:

He would love Otis Redding, Neil Young, Joan Baez, Bob Seger, and Jim Croce... all those slower "folkish" artists.

And a little fashion aesthetic (if he wasn't stuck in a uniform every damn day):

I think he would have the grandpa style aesthetic (tho finding that aesthetic on Black models is borderline impossible because Pinterest is SO biased but.., rant for another day). I think his favorite color is green though, and he would absolutely have locs by the time 13 went into hiding (rip og trilogy Boggs your grandfather is flexing on you and your bald ass head with his amazing hair).

2024 feminist movie retrospective ~ day 12

It's RAPID FIRE REVIEWS TIME !! ROUND 5

I don't have enough to say about these next films to write full reviews, but i still want to mention them, these are some of the ones i watched in theaters in the last trimester of 2024.

Very, VERY strange project. It feels like this movie is purposefully made to be hated. There were a bunch of moids who were really annoying about the first film as i'm sure you know, and this sequel seems to be an answer to them. But like why. The director got given so much money and he could do whatever he wanted, why did he do that? Basically this whole film is a commentary on how the first one was never about heterosexuality, or maleness or ethnicity or whatever axis of oppression BUT class and mental illness. This whole sequel's goal is to take this character that some men have deified since the first once came out and to show that he's not a chad, he's not a role model, he's not a hero, he's an extremely mentally ill person whose life is absolute hell. And OF COURSE people hate this sequel?! This is such a strange follow-up to the first film?! It feels like the director focused his efforts on who was meant to hate this, but not who was meant to like this.

I personally had a nice time watching it, so did my mom and brother (but to be fair my mom works in psychiatry, i have experience working in psychiatry (and have experience being a psychiatric patient) and my brother is very knowledgeable about psychiatry thanks to the two of us, so maybe all three of us just happen to be part of the extremely niche audience this film is meant to reach. Idk), it's very well shot and well lit, it's well acted, Lady Gaga's acting AND singing is terrific (but holy shit Phoenix cannot sing. The autotune on his voice was so obvious and distracting.) and it's overall really well made. BUT it's also purposefully super frustrating and uncomfortable and weird and unsatisfying and i just don't know how to rate it. Just... wtf. I don't even know if i recommend it. Do you WANT to watch a movie that's made to piss people off? I'll let you be the judge of that. I liked the portrayal of mental illness. But i don't understand why it had to be the Joker being portrayed like that.........

quick spoiler note : while her character is interesting, i'm not sure i like what they're trying to do with Gaga's character. She IS in big part responsible for some of the fucked up shit that happens in the story and in the first film there was already the whole thing with the mom. I'm not saying that 2 instances of something is enough to detect a pattern, but it IS the second movie in a row where a guy's crashout is partially blamed on a woman, even tho she herself is mentally ill. I don't think there's a message here, i don't think it's intentional, but it's.... not great.

A pretty cute, easy watch. Cute concept, cute designs, just.... cute. It has a few jokes that i liked and the animation is very competent, it's very very sappy tho. To the point of being annoying. The dialogues aren't great, it's extremely predictable and i just hate the cast. Do animated films really need that many celebrities as voice actors for people to be interested? That's bleak. Lupita Nyong'o as the robot is pretty fun but the rest of the cast just pissed me off. JUST HIRE VOICE ACTORS. I recommend it to children and people who like things made for children i guess. It entertained me and then i forgot all about it in a few days. It would have been soooo much better if the animals didn't talk.

As someone who was an avid comic book reader for years, loves the Spider-Man universe, and is a huge fan of Venom 1 and 2, let me assure you : THIS SHIT IS SO ASS :')

My biggest disappointment of the year by far. What the FUCK happened. The first movie was fun because even if it was typical action movie slop, the concept was weird and Tom Hardy looked like he was on crack the whole time. The second movie was fun because they gave up on the script and just let Tom hardy write a body-horror alien romcom for some reason.

I don't get it. The writing credit is still the same, but everything is so fucking lame. Just bottom of the barrel, pandering garbage. Except unlike the two previous films, there's no fun vibe that redeems it here. Embarrassing. The film manages to be completely predictable and completely nonsensical at the same time which shouldn't be possible. It makes no sense whatsoever, there are clearly elements that were implemented just to go viral online and i guess it worked because it made HALF A BILLION DOLLARS. The action scenes are not fun, the musical selection is annoying, and the ending tries to be cute but it's so predictable and stupid that you can't take it seriously.

I'll give it credit where credit is due, it's pretty gay sometimes. What the fuck was that "we could have had a family" thing about lol. Also my mom loved it so obligatory bonus point. But otherwise it's a NO from me!!

Very atmospheric, subtle and fascinating watch. Reminded me of Team Ico video-games. Super good original soundtrack and sound design, good looking animations, some amazing shots. Felt like a strange timeless fable, i LOVED the ending. Very satisfying. There was a lot of passion behind this. Also ngl as a talassophobe some parts fucked me up ToT

Fairly entertaining and interesting, great performances. Very classic film-making from Clint Eastwood. Feels like this could have come out 50 years ago. Overall a pretty fun watch. But i HATE the ending. What's happening with movies recently. Why is it currently trendy to stop a film dead in its tracks before the spectator can see the conclusion? Absolutely insufferable, especially for a thriller like this. Honestly it's not the film's fault, i'm just tired of how prevalent it's been recently. Like at this point when i watch a big, critically acclaimed movie i expect it to end disappointingly. The film's still pretty good and i would recommend it if you like thriller/courthouse stories.

I really don't like Ridley Scott. That being said, i think the first Gladiator is a very well-made film so i was curious about that sequel. Overall i gotta say i'm not impressed. It is a a complete clone of the first film narratively. Same archetypes, same major story points, and obviously the setting is the same so yeah. Just textbook nostalgia bait that barely offers anything new. I guess i recommend it if you like period pieces/peplum films? Don't expect anything incredible. Also i have a HUGE problem with the casting of the main character, more about that here.

Can someone else who has watched this tell me what she thought : wasn't there crazy tension between Lucius and that nurse guy?? I thought they were going to fuck for suuure. It might just be these pesky homosexual goggles i always wear so whatever. Between that and the two weird emperors, i guess i recommend this film to fujoshis lol. Also i liked the monkeys. Wtf was that about.

I was completely unaware of Wicked as an IP before hearing about this film. I've also never seen The Wizard of Oz. I gotta say it's pretty fun! Some beautiful set and costume design, pretty good acting and good singing, cool choreography... That being said the film is WAY too long for what it is, on top of just straight up lying in the promotional material (was anyone aware that this was a "part 1" until like the last few days before release?). The length wouldn't be a problem if it was handled better but unfortunately it feels like the film spends the most amount of time on the most uninteresting and frustrating elements. The whole film is about Elphaba and Glinda, so it would probably have been good to give more screen-time to the positive aspects of their relationship. There's almost 80min of runtime of Glinda being awful and that's the slowest part of the movie. If that part moved along faster she would be a more sympathetic character and her redemption would feel less rushed.

But overall i have to admit that it works really well ! Also uuuuuuurrrrgggg i need them to get together RIGHT NOW!!! I'm gnawing at the bars of my enclosure!!!!! One of the best ships of the year. They're definitely not kissing in part 2 but i can't wait to read the fic where they do lol.

edit : i forgot to mention this but the cynical and performative way hollywood handles ethnic diversity is i believe perfectly exemplified by this film. The casting of the main characters is fine but the casting of the extras/dancers is so painfully political it's embarrassing. During every song number there are shots of the dancers where it looks like they had someone on set whose job was to make sure every shot had a bit of everything. It doesn't look realistic, it doesn't look genuine, it looks like color charts. Remember the skin tone color chart crime scene in Hannibal? Yeah.

ANOTHER edit holy shit i must have rushed this yesterday : this is obviously not an attack on the actresses, and maybe i'm being a bit harsh, but i think it's unacceptable to make content targeted at children (especially little girls obviously) with main female characters that look like that. Both actresses, but Grande especially, are dangerously thin. And it feels like her wardrobe purposefully accentuates it. Very very uncomfortable

hi, im new here (not to dd just to the tumblr sphere— why does everyone seem to hate zdarsky/checchetto? i really enjoyed the first part of zdarkys run and i adore checchetto’s art + design, so idk what i missed that makes everyone who comicsposts dislike it so much??

hm. this isn't the easiest question to answer. there's a LOT of different reasons as to why people disliked that run.

tbh I'll admit the first 20 or so issues of v6 are kind of okay. not impossible to read. it goes downhill fast after that, tho. very very downhill.

here's this post by @/xycuro-illuminati that does a good job of explaining why so many people disliked the run. here's my post on the ableism in zdarsky's writing. trust me you aren't the first person who's asked this question before

i'll give you a more general answer of my own opinion, tho

zdarsky's writing misses what most consider to be crucial points of Matt and Elektra's characters. with this, he entirely obliterates their characterization and that really pissed a lot of comics fans off.

i would consider volume 6 to be the beginning of the MCU-ification of dd. it is clear that at that point, some higher-ups were pushing for daredevil comics to become more like the show. the show was a MASSIVE hit and they wanted to cash in on that. so, they had the writers start shifting the comics and the characterization around to fit the show better.

this is where the problem lies. it is insulting, honestly, to ignore the past 50 plus years of writing for matt's character to shift it into something that will be more palatable to live actions fans just so marvel can get a good payday.

the most glaringly noticeable part of this is - the catholicism. the live action show makes a big deal out of matt being catholic when this was never really the case in the comics. while matt being religious and catholic are present in matt's background in the comics, it's not even close to being a big part of the character.

one of the main things that makes matt so compelling as a character is his morality, his integrity. he upholds his moral code relentlessly because he believes it is the right thing to do. he believes everyone deserves a second chance no matter what. in zdarsky's run and in the show, matt's reason for upholding his moral code is tied to his religious beliefs.

here's a good post on the origins of catholicism being related to matt's character and how it differs from the show and why it is such an injustice to tie matt's morality to his religion.

it's really really hard to articulate every single thing that's wrong with zdarsky's run while also giving you a thorough explanation.

i could tell you about how zdarsky's original plot was focused around matt's guilt when he accidentally kills someone but... matt's killed people before. he killed someone in his very first issue. ever. he was chasing after the man who was responsible for his father's murder and scared him so badly the man had a heart attack and died.

all of zdarsky's plots and subplots are all things that have been done over and over, he just writes it worse.

i could tell you about how shitty checchetto's art is. he can't draw women. or fat people (foggy fans deserve reparations). toward the end of the run he gets ESPECIALLY sloppy. he whitewashed kirsten and sam.

i could tell you about how zdarsky wrecked elektra's character. he completely ignored her origins and the character development she's had over the course of decades of writing just to slap some random retconned backstory onto her.

theres so. many. things.

i got into the comics through the show. when I started reading the comics I honestly perceived comics matt and show matt as two entirely different characters because they just felt so incredibly separate from one another. it is not that there are zero similarities, but their reasons for WHY they are the way that they are diverge wildly from each other

i dont know how else to put it except to say this. when I read zdarsky's run, I do not feel like I'm reading about Matt Murdock. it doesn't feel like matt, it doesn't feel like daredevil. it feels like an entirely new character that I do not know.

to fully explain to you why i feel that way would take a damn book. i realize that my answer isn't at all comprehensive and some parts are probably confusing but it is impossible to pick a start and end point. that's just not matt. that's it.

Day 17 - Echo Art

Oh. My. God. (Rambles incoming)

This was so important that I HAD to schedule it so it posts the moment it becomes January 30th, 2025.

So, I saw this yesterday and initially thought this was really good fanart, BUT APPARENTLY THERE WAS A WHOLE SERIES OF OFFICIAL ART AND I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL ALMOST A FULL 24 HOURS AFTER IT WAS RELEASED, SO I'M A LITTLE LATE TO THE PARTY, OOPSIE. Anyways, I've only seen a few of them but I wanna look into them all eventually. Now, here comes me overanalyzing this thing.

These echo arts are supposed to be how the character sees themselves if I remember right? I tried reading what they were supposed to be and I genuinely didn't understand, but I DO know that apparently these arts won't be fully understood unless we play the game in this entirety. That means I'm not gonna understand this art piece for like 5 years.

That fact, of course, made me scream in the middle of school because I WANNA KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON HERE!! Like, DIANA LOOKS SO HORRIFIED AND/OR DISGUSTED WHILE STARING AT (who I can only assume is) HER PAST SELF??

The first theory that came to mind is that she used to be a bad person, like horrible. That's why she's so nice now, she's working to better herself so she can never become the toxic person she once was.

Another theory is that physically something once happened to her which caused some sort of facial injury? Strange train of thought, I know, but hear me out. She looks absolutely traumatized staring back at herself. The version of herself on the floor is surrounded in darkness, but her face is glowing, while also emitting darkness towards current Diana, which I would assume, if this theory is somehow correct, is supposed to emphasize just how shocked/horrified she really is. This could also be an origin to why she's even a cosmetologist. If some sort of facial injury happened, she likely needed facial reconstruction surgery. It could've scarred her face, which could cause some insecurities. So what does she do? She covers it with makeup to make herself feel better and less insecure. Honestly, I feel like this theory is wrong and I feel more confident in the first one.

And actually, going back to the first one, I feel like, if it's true, that the whole message of Diana's character would be "there are some things that makeup can't cover." Just because you're a good person now doesn't mean you can cover up your past actions, no matter how much you've digressed from what you once were. You'll still be associated with that person you once were, no matter how much you don't wanna be them.

Now that I am seeing that written out, that seems too similar to Wolfgang and idk if they'd take that approach.

There are so many things I can say about this, genuinely!! Like one of my other initial thoughts, besides from the fact I thought it was fanart, was that it resembles the scene of Wolfgang getting electrocuted a lot, at least to me. I think that's what really convinced me it was fanart, because to me I thought somehow that was what Diana was dressed in when that happened??

Idk anymore, I'm very bad when it comes to theorizing and tbh this is a bunch of word vomit because I haven't had the chance to let this out anywhere else. I'd love to hear others' thoughts on this tho, because from the few echo arts I've seen they're just very interesting to me!! LIKE I NEED THE REST OF THIS GAME OUT ALREADY. how does mabel’s muse au go abt her relationships?? the angst potential…..with bill enabling her selfishness and chaotic tendencies, i imagine dipper getting more and more aggravated w her as time goes on……which leads to him mentioning mabel as a reason why he wants to be ford’s apprentice and agreeing that, lately, bc yeah she’s been a bit much this summer and he thinks some time part would be good for them. having mabel overhear her twin saying those things + ford saying what he said in ur art ,,, it just pushes her further into the trenches of bill’s manipulation. since u said she met bill early like after the pilot, i think stan would be used to mabel acting the way she does w bill and all, even if there are the occasional red flags. but dipper, having known her since birth, ik u said he thinks bill isn’t real but he has the journal full of warnings of bill and i think he’d be rightfully suspicious of mabel’s supposed muse…..idk i think he’s a curious smart lil guy who would have a gut feeling abt what’s going on w mabel and her muse. i do like the idea of him thinking bill’s just an imaginary friend tho!!! just him thinking it’s another mabel quirk or something is plausible :O! how often does bill possess her body? he doesn’t hurt her like he did w ford, right? since he needs her to trust him and all….. :3

dipper ABSOLUTELY gets irritated with mabel as the series progresses. especially since, at the beginning, he doesnt believe in bill, so the fact that mabel is blaming a lot of her childish actions on something as silly as an imaginary friend bothers him A LOT. he wishes shed just take accountability (which later leads to him trying to take accountability HIMSELF, which backfires, bc he just ends up way too critical and self-loathing. at the end they find a healthy middle of taking accountability and also not beating yourself up). i honestly didnt even think about ford still offering the apprenticeship but in hindsight i can SO see ford using that to try and convince him to come aboard!!

in this au, bill isnt depicted in the journal. ford never mentions him by name/draws him out, other than little hints (dipper does raise an eyebrow at the author also calling a being 'my muse', and starts to theorize, but never gets to come to a concrete conclusion before the truth comes out anyway). i think over the course of the story he DOES come up with a bunch of theories on what the 'imaginary friend' could be, really, but they all fall flat. itd be a fun little b plot to the main story if he were trying to investigate various creatures to see if any could fit only to never be able to figure it out

bill doesnt possess her body very much (if at all) and definitely doesnt hurt her when/if he does!! he really just doesnt NEED to possess her. on the rare occasion that he does, its not as self-serving as it is with ford or dipper in canon. like i can see her letting him use his body so she can stay up later making her sock puppets or stock piling mabel juice or something jhksfhjksdf. since he doesnt have any real reason to want to destroy the journals, he wouldnt have to take over anyones body in sock opera but he might just for funsies.

I actually had a few ideas!!!

The first one that u can see exemplified in this fic is that i think they would all have very distinct ways of texting?? Which is, well, how it works irl.

Rolfe, Billy Bob and Fatz all text very similarly, respecting the Common Law of The English Tongue (the usages of these -> ' n general punctuation). Fatz tho barely uses emojis or exclamation points, Billy Bob uses emojis n exclamations a normal amount, but Rolfe uses a bunch of exclamations, but not that many emojis, as well as a bunch of Capitals.

Beach too texts a bit like this, bc he's a grammar nerd, but he also uses Significant Capitals to get tone across, as well as emojis n all caps if the situation calls for it. Whenever he makes a typo its intentional, yknow, The Internet Accent™, n he uses very specific emojis for very specific actions.

Looney n Mitzi also text that way, Looney however tends to text fast so he uses abbrevations most often n has the occasional typo, while Mitzi (who i sadly didn't get to show much) uses emoji p liberally, lots of question n exclamation marks, n tone tags on occasion.

Dook n Earl also text similarly, all lowercase no respect for the english lexicon. Earl doesn't use emoji a lot n sticks to the classics if need be (yknow, :) ): n the like) but surpringly he uses a lot of marks to convey tone, while Dook generally doesn't. Dook is also fond of using emojis to convey tone

As far as more hcs of modern rockafire... i might be projecting (i'm totally projecting) but i did have a hc Rolfe would enjoy splatoon. I even have a fic abt it i never posted n dont plan to bc its OLD its an ANCIENT ARTIFACT fr fr. Still ig if anyone wants to read it you can DM and i'll see what i can do.

Since i am a Gamer™ (theoretically) i of course thought of what games the rest of the band would enjoy. Billy Bob of course would be ALL OVER cozy games, esp animal crossing. He'll get SO attached to his villagers he would Not hate any of em under any circumstances, even the 'ugly' ones. He's the type to cry when one of them decides to leave fr. But even in New Horizons he would Not force em to stay, if they want to see the world he will not stop them.

Looney would be into any game where he has freedom to build crazy shit. So, minecraft, mario maker, poly bridge n the like. As long as he can build stuff he cant irl bc of lack of resources, he's happy. I do see him as a very Dedicated Gamer in general tho, i can see him having an insanely high record on the endless mode of mario maker fr.

I feel like all of center stage would be into different rythmn games. Beach ofc would be a guitar hero kid thru n thru, Dook would be goated at taiko no tatsujin, Mitzi would be all over rythmn heaven, and Fatz... i think its funny if he was really into project diva and vocaloid in general. I mean in the 80s he was into new tech in music, look at the tune machine, its basically a very advanced synth. So i think he would look at the happy voice synthetizer and go nuts over it fr. I think i mentioned it in this other post? But i can see all the rest of the band being really into vocaloid too, or at least knowing a few songs. Earl i feel wouldn't be as into it bc he can't get into the high-pitched, robotic voices, but even then he enjoys other vocaloid w lower registers or producers who can make them sound real

Back to the games thing?? I like the idea of Earl and Rolfe being into shooters, and being very damn good at em too. Rolfe's just not a fan of the gritty aesthetic a bunch of em have, which is why he defaults to splatoon instead.

Uh moving on. I had??? Ideas abt redesigning the characters w more modern-ish outfits. I might yet do them, but one idea i had is Beach w light blue highlights on his hair!! Beach would do a lot of crazy shit to his hair i believe. He would have piercings too i think

Beach, Dook, Mitzi n Looney would def be the ones that quote memes on the regular and use internet speech irl. Billy Bob tries to, yknow, to be 'in' with the kids, but he gets the concepts mixed up sometimes or uses old memes still, but its v endearing. Rolfe n Fatz on the other hand are like "'Based'? Based on what?" unironically. Earl is an unique case in that he understands a lot of the memes but he refuses to participate bc he legit thinks its cringe. On that note, Earl def calls Rolfe cringe to his face a lot you just know it 😭

I feel like they would have a lot of social media presence?? But that's mostly thanks to Rolfe. I genuinaly think Rolfe's a great manager in any context, and in a modern au he would know you need to Exist online as an artist to get recognition. He manages accounts on every single plataform he can think off. I can see Mitzi n Looney being the ones that help the most w it, while everyone else is just along for the ride.

On that note, bc of it i feel like they would be less reliant on their job as Showbiz's Mascot Band that they are in my mainverse?? Like, they probs have their music up on youtube n spotify n the like, they would have a kofi n patreon set up, so they get extra revenue n money OUTSIDE of Showbiz. So stuff like what happens in the second part of this fic does end up with everyone agreeing they can just... Leave. They're not as shackled to Showbiz as they are in mainverse. As such, i also feel like Concept Unification would be a way less dramatic time? They'd be like "Oh no! Anyways--" n move on, maybe be in hot water for a bit but not as bad as in mainverse. They would def continue the band as-is n eventually find other gigs to supplement the patreon/kofi/youtube/spotify gains.

As far as the WP5 goes, i dont??? Have as many ideas for them lol??? Sorry :'). The only one i can think abt is that unlike in mainverse, Rolfe n Wolfman do manage to keep in contact bc Era of Comunication, n as such Rolfe moves in w Wolfman the second he's 18, maybe even sooner. So yeah Rolfe is sliiiiightly less fucked up than in mainverse. Just Slightly...

AOT Season 4 The Final Chapters Thoughts:

I like how this part of Season 4 is Armin-centric. The first part was dedicated to Eren and then the second part was dedicated to Mikasa

The cgi continues to improve for aot. However, you can tell MAPPA's budget went to jjk because of the amount of fanservice they are giving 😂

The Survey Corps vs past titans shifters fight was so good!!! I liked watching it more than reading it because you could see what happens in the action. Also the scene with Pieck running toward the Warhammer titan was hilarious

I like the detail of the gray people and the colored baby. The baby represents the future and it being colored represents the hope of getting through the Rumbling. I like how everything became colored once the titans stopped moving.

Levi finally killing Zeke was satisfying. Now Zeke can be reborn as Toji in jjk because we know stuff is going down there too lol

Can I just say that I love the aruani scenes? Like Annie immediately asks where's Armin but tries to play it off and Mikasa was not buying it! Then there was the other part where Annie saves Armin and AHHHH I loved it!! Her dad better be impressed if Annie got with Armin cause he is so cool

Okay that hallucigenia thing needed to go. We don't even know where it went after Eren died. We assume it died with him because everyone turned back to normal. Also, I guess every titan had a piece of hallucigenia in them, specifically in their spine that connects their CNS and their PNS. It turning others into titans was it's way to "multiply" and keep it alive

The eremika kiss was not as creepy as I remember in the manga. The lighting helped it a lot. I remember reading that part and questioning what was Isayama thinking when he wrote that

I like to think of Eren as Lelouch from Code Geass, except Lelouch lived to see the effects of what he did. Eren had no choice but to die after wiping out 80% of humanity.

On that thought, there was one part where Armin was like "we can't have conflict if we destroy the outside world." Well, we already saw at the beginning of S4 that is not the case. There will always be conflict in the world. We even see it today. Sure, Eren could have killed everyone, but you still have conflict within Paradis. We saw it already with the Jaegerists. Eren helped his friends have a peaceful life but that would end eventually once they passed.

I sobbed at the part with everyone reuniting. It was sweet in the manga, it was sweet now

I like the ending even if it is slightly different from the manga. Of course you get the 104 + Pieck coming to Paradis (Jean looking great as always lol), Mikasa seeing birb Eren, Onyakopon and Yelena (finally) helping out, Levi with the kids, and Falco/Gabi planting a tree to signify new beginnings

Now...my only complaint about this episode was the credits. WHY DID THEY MAKE IT SMALL??? i WANTED TO KNOW WHO MIKASA MARRIED!!!! I liked the detail with the other kid tho. The boy sees the tree with a hole and walks in. I think this is Isayama's way of showing that titans can return and Eren would be the new Ymir. I'm not too certain, but it would suck for Eren because he would not be free. Maybe the kid could be the new Ymir? Who knows? My question would be how would titans survive modern day. Obviously they would evolve, but can they survive modern technology. We may not use swords much anymore but there is nuclear technology.

(Edit: it is possible Mikasa married Jean based on what we see in the anime/manga. I feel like that's not a good ending for either one of them because a) Mikasa's heart belongs to Eren. It's like Rose from the Titanic. Basically, Mikasa won't love Jean or whoever she married fully. b) Jean seems to be busy conducting the peace talks with the others. Idk if he would have time for Mikasa unless they were both cool with it. c) I think it's just not a good ending for either of them. I felt bad for Mikasa throughout the whole episode and that as her ending is...idk...I would feel even bad for her)

I know Isayama is done with the series but i have questions I want answered!!! 😭 Still, I got into this fandom back in 2013 and it has been a good 10 years. I met a lot of great people from the fandom who I still talk to today. Aot is my favorite anime and I plan on rewatching the anime or buy the manga in the future. Now it is time for me to go to the next fandom aka twst lol

my prediction for pokemon masters ex is by next month, that fairy team star brat uhhh (googles name) ortega will be out. aoi and/or haruto will come out next year possibly february (since pokemon presents will happen at that time too). honest to god idk when hassel will come out. maybe he'll be with the paldean protags as well. idk

but what i WANT to know is kierans appearance in masters. of course he cant possibly come in yet before the protags. and if we were to compare his fame to the swsh dlc characters, he got famous instantly the second the teal mask dlc is out.

and why wouldnt he? he was the first character whose arc got bastardized by protags actions. he was the good turned bad rival. his whole story is his obsession with ogerpon which then evolves into obsession into getting stronger to beat protag. literally no brainwashing whatsoever. we were told that our actions caused him his downfall.

but even in during those moments, he was implied to like protag. the festival date? him giving a candy apple? thats just a standard shoujo scene. and him feeling betrayed by protag? protag apologizing and feeling guilty as fuck but he was too hurt to forgive?

that scene with terapagos? him being saved by protag. him being guilty but then steeled himself before fighting with protag side by side? he was just written in a way thats meant for me.

and the fact that he traded an applin with protag. thats just written in a way thats meant for the me part 2

and how protag answers arvens question about their relationship with kieran? 'he's just a....friend' girl what does that mean

kieran was written so specifically romantic. he was the closest to any romantic implication since Ns 'i like you a little' dialogue.

he got number 4 in the top 100 dream girls poll. he literally swept the majority of most famous male characters who have been in that poll for so long and he just got number 4 at first try. he apparently also got first place in one of the pokemon paldea polls?

kieran got A LOT of merch. hes a nui. he has 3 full art SAR cards. he has a figurine form. he has that cute interchangeable pouch. i think hes one of the male characters who got the most spotlight??? the last time any male character got this spotlight fast was N and N is still relevant to this day.

and what i notice about pokemon masters is they like to cast A-star seiyuus for their characters. they credit the voice actors (which i love) but its inherently funny for me that characters who are famous will get a really strong seiyuu lineup (N, steven, calem, cynthia, serena, silver HEHE, green, hikari). even piers was given to a very famous rockstar in japan??? and larry and kabu were given by Legends

the fact that hosoya yoshimasa got volo is the funniest shit ever. no one expected that. like we know he might get an A-star seiyuu but we were thinking someone like ishida akira or hirakawai daisuke. someone with a sweet charming almost feminine but still trickster-like voice. but no we got a deep sexy smooth voice. not complaining <3
