“Scott pilgrim is a bad person you’re not supposed to like him.” Ok. That should be the beginning of the conversation not the end of it. Why is this kind of protagonist fitting for the story Scott pilgrim is telling? Where does it fit against the early 2000s media landscape? When you find yourself rooting for Scott you shouldn’t be like punching yourself for rooting for the “bad guy” you are reading it as intended. The entire narrative is built around making you sympathize with him FOR A REASON!!!!

Trainspotting is obvs not a target of twitter media discourse bc people on there haven’t read/seen it but Mark is technically a “”bad person”” just by internet definition alone. He abuses animals and he and his friends are responsible for the death of a child. Which describing it, sounds awful! But I don’t know ANYONE who has come out of that movie like “wow fuck mark lol.” Because the story shows you him first and foremost as human being that you desperately want to see find his way.

And idk not to overreach here but I do think this mindset extends to how people view restorative justice. Which people on here love to pay lip service to because they want to seem Leftist but then turn around and think that people are incapable of change and certain criminals deserve to be flayed in the town square or whatever. There is this idea that people can be categorized into inherently good or bad

I think honestly the discussion of unlikeable protagonists has rotted some of your brains or become twisted in the callout mindset bc now rather than reading a character (or real persons!!!) ACTIONS as bad and the result of being a complex human being the discussion just turns into “You’re not supposed to like them because they are a bad person. I am very intelligent”

The last doctor who i watched was upto the last episode with peter capaldi, and that was 1-2 yrs ago :( i tried to watch the ones after that but its just like, it got too difficult 😭 even the ones with capaldi were difficult because it jhst became so modernised and obviously thats expected but still idk😭😭 i just like the cosy vibes of doctor who and then suddenly it felt like fluorescent lights. But if im looking at just the companions I've actually watched, cus i havent watched the old seasons, lol. I would sayyy Amy because shes so like multifaceted and i love that. She loves rhe doctor but she loves rory but he doesnt get her as much but she still loves him and she loves the doctor but shes so loyal to rory and she feels so strongly and she wants to be so MUCH and i know these traits are all in the other companions too but i love how it is expressed with amy! How she doesn't reallt get everything, and she gets a tragic but loving ending. And i mean, fish fingers and custard! A delicacy whicj couldn't have come about if the 11th doctor didnt have wrird cravinfs at her house. I love rose too. I also love clara but shes bottom of the list and i cant wrap my mind around why exactly. But yeah.

But then you have Xochilicue, and I'm: Xochitl (flower) but what is Cue? It could be cueitl (skirt) whicj would translate to flowery skirt. Maybe it is the goddess but her name is Xochiquetzal, maybe is like a fusion between her and Coatlicue? Idk, im still a begginer.

But then there is Cihuatotl. Which again, Im ?? Cihuatl (woman) but Totl (?)... I looked at my dictionary and there was no totl, maybe tetl? (stone) or tototetl (egg)
