And then Matty holds his arms out by his side, lets his head fall down, chin against one of his collarbones, and George sees it immediately.

He’s playing the part of a saviour with blackened teeth and scummy hands, telling George he’s Jesus, telling George he could be his saviour, telling George to just fucking listen.

Matty keeps his arms there until George takes two long, steady strides over, and throws them down by his sides. He looks angry.

"You’re fucking disgusting. How could you? Why would you do that?"

There’s pretty, shiny tears starting to build over George’s brown eyes, and Matty knows he’s walking a fine fucking line between showing George what he knows and killing him in the process. He’s taken a whole lifetime of being told he’s dirty, he doesn’t care about one more. But he does. He does. He really does.

Of all the things George could’ve said to him then, that hurt him the most. He could’ve told him he was a sinner, that he should repent and worship like everybody else, could’ve told him that he deserves to go to hell, but telling him he’s disgusting hits somewhere far too close to home. He looked hurt at the sight, like he had no idea Matty could even think to do that, and that’s almost the worst part, because it came so easily to Matty, was he just that bad? Too far gone into that secular, Godless place that he couldn’t even see that he was wrong?

yknow what. I wanna say: CSA and COCSA survivors are all incredible, but I also wanna give a shout out to ppl who were exposed to sexual stuff or had any kind of sexual experience as a kid that they either aren't comfortable labelling as or don't consider abuse, but they know it still fucking sucked and shouldnt have happened. Even if that changes later in life and you identify as a victim/surivor, it can be messy to have to imagine those labels applying to the ppl in ur life and that can take time.

The most important thing is to prioritize your recovery + health, and to support other victims + survivors.

The thing about the "fridged" trope is that obviously you can't have a female love interest dying as a defining moment for a male character because that's not feminist, but you also can't have a male love interest dying as a defining moment for a female character because then she's just going to have an arc revolving around her relationship with a man and that's also not feminist, and you also can't kill off a love interest from a gay relationship or a relationship involving a nonbinary person because that's burying your queers, which is at least as bad as misogyny if not even worse, and now suddenly you can't kill off romantic partners at all in stories because no matter the demographics, it's going to be problematic somehow, which is... a pretty ridiculous limitation to impose on storytelling.

And, like, it would be satisfying to have a solution other than "it depends on context if not straight-up vibes, and it's usually very reasonable for audience members to have a range of opinions on the execution of one specific instance," but. Yeah, you do kind of have to just vibe check it in a deeply subjective manner sometimes.

The problem with a lot of traffic life interpretations in my opinion is they don't understand character foils or don't employ them in their writing. Grian-Martyn and Scar-Ren are genuinely pretty good character foils for a series that is not really scripted or planned out like a book is. I could go on and on about how they parallel each other and the similarities between them. Even the smaller details between the four usually match up
