different backgrounds for the protag like in origins. da4 is supposed to span different cities etc , so it should be easy to have humans / elves / dwarves / qunari from different backgrounds. pls dont make the only background for an elf a tevinter slave, or the only background for a mage a magister

a balanced ratio of female to male companions , and romance options more like da2. no race locked romances cause that was weird

pls do not go 'all elves are working with solas'. there should be at least one (1) big group led by briala, merrill and fenris opposing him. they should also have a big part of defeating him / saving the world in the end that is visible to the whole world, because otherwise elves are gonna be hated more than ever, especially since it seems like the writers might have the ancient elves be the cause of the blight, rather than tevinter

let me actually shit on the chantry. let us discover there is no maker / the 'maker' was mythal whispering to andraste. the writers have destroyed the dalish's beliefs and the dwarves beliefs, time to do the same for the maker. I'm tired of the writers saying actually all these other religions are fake! except the maker!

let the players opinion of solas matter. dont have it be like 'oh u decided to kill him and that's actually the bad ending!!' I get that people love him but people who dont like him due to the lying / racism / genocide are also valid and i dont want 'u were supposed to like him' to be forced on me

mythal is alive and working with the elves opposing solas (led by briala merrill and fenris). her hoast is an elf (merrill mayhaps). I know notes at the end of dai say she was headed to morrigan, but considering that the last scene with flemeth and morrigan could be read as flemeth realising how she's failed morrigan, letting her live her life with kieran instead of becoming a vessel would be nice. also flemeth definitely had other vessel options, especially since she's known for years that morrigan was 'unwilling'

let me see flemeth / mythal fight. da2 hinted but didnt let me see it. we've never seen her actually fight (dragon form aside) and i want to See It.

and my main inquisitor is a dalish mage!! his name is camris (middle names are juniper and zethrallen tho tbh i have a joking headcanon that he and cassandra are the “has a billion names” squad but i can’t think of other names akjdxjksdkj) and he romances dorian!!!!

and my hawke (da2), i’ve officially decided this summer to stray away from the default names and name her dani, which tbh is bc my middle name is danielle. she romances fenris!!

and then my secondary warden is emerson tabris, elven rogue, and he romances zevran. and my secondary inquisitors...... i have a main secondary inquisitor, adaranni lavellan, dalish mage, and she romances josephine (and is the older sister of my main lavellan so both my lavellans exist in either timeline but this is all headcanon), and then i have an adaar named poppy who i’m gonna romance sera with, and then i have another lavellan warrior named kira who is also gonna romance josephine (i really love josie) but she has a complicated canon bc one day i was like “okay so electra surana is my hero of ferelden and i headcanon that she has a younger sister, kira surana, so what if kira was........... the inquisitor. heroism is genetic, apparently.”

(and i really want to romance cassandra one day but more importantly i want cassandra to romance me)

so, you see, my goal when i first played inquisition back in 2015 was to find a way to connect all my heroes (like for example i hc that my main warden’s and my hawke’s paths have crossed before), and my original wardens and inquisitors were absolutely self-inserts bc i think elves are cool so i had like four red-headed elves and i just shrugged and said “you could make a complicated family tree out of this”

idk what i’m gonna do with da4!!! i’ve run out of family tree and narrative justifications!!!!!

i was thinking abt tal voshoth mage inquisitor’s possible backstory and now i really wanna play as the rift mage female inquisitor Adaar i was always planning to create. 

She also has the prettiest name I found--Fiadh. I never thought abt mage adaar’s backstory, I just always found mage adaar interesting cause it makes the most sense why their parents in particular would have left the Qun and I think their unique identity--a qunari mage but not a saarebas--offers the most interesting insight to tal-vashoth/qunari culture. Not to mention I always like  characters who’s never quite fit in with their people and their culture for some reason and explore what that experience is like, cause idk, #self projection? Anyways, the way I have always imagined it is that mage adaar’s parents wouldn’t be mages themselves, but now im really into a mage adaar with an ex-saarebas mother? It would be very tragic, yes, but imagine the bitter sweet joy she would have felt when she found out her daughter has her gift, knowing that her child doesn’t have to go through the horrific abuse she went through? Imagine her realizing that her daughter can learn and grow without being treated as a “dangerous thing”, a thing less than a slave, less than an animal? Yeah......also fuck the Qun.  Im not so sure if i wanted to go down that route though, i might make some changes and come up with how her father met her mother, but it always saddens me when I encountered that saarebas from da2 and he’d have die either way, believing that there is no life outside the blood soaked nightmare that must have been his life under the Qun. It’s nice to imagine maybe some of them can co-exist peacefully with people outside the Qun and have a normal life. Anyways, a tal vashoth mage inquisitor and a dalish elf mage inquisitor are literally my two favourite kind of inquisitors, both of them can also easily specialize in either rift mage or knight enchanter (although this spec is more suitable for an elf, since the school of magic did stem from their culture), and im most interested in their perspectives. I guess ppl can say that they prefer a human mage inquisitor, since them being a cirlce mage makes them more relevant to the conflict at the beginning of the game since it directly involves them, but i never found circle mages interesting lol i was always kinda piss that circle mage is the only kind of mage u can play as in da:o, esp after i found out how boring (though informative) their origin story is.  i was planning to use my female mage adaar to romance sera too, whose romance i wasn’t too enthusiastic to do, unfortunately. First of all, sera and I almost never agree on anything so it’s already hard to get her approval high enough to initiate the romance asap. I’d have to lie to get her approval and say things i don’t wanna say, and I dont wanna do that, lol. Also I didn’t think that a qunari/tal-vashoth inquisitor can help sera to come into terms of her heritage and racial identity--which was, uh, very important to me since her pissing on her own heritage for just cause she didn’t fit in with her people was THE reason why i still have a lot of troubling liking her (no, the game didn’t show other elves treating her badly cause she’s different, we never see that kind of behaviour from alienage or dalish elves in any of the games, and she certainly didn’t accuse anybody of that, so no she just didn’t fit in and started pissing on her people to show how she isn’t like “the other elves”, lmao. Now, I’d actually very much sympathize with the frustration over not meeting certain expectations that people have of you because of your racial identity, like hello i know what thats like? but i have VERY little patience for any characters who straight up piss on their heritage and their people just to prove that they are different and they are special lol). Sera was a good friend, and she’s funny and kind hearted, i recognize these virtues from her and its why I always imagine that my female lavellan--yet another lesbian lol--is very close, but a romance with her??? oof, no. i was pretty disappointed that sera’s romance just isn’t suitable for a lavellan and i really wanted to romance her with a female lavellan, but i don’t want to straight up lying out of my ass just to gain her approval lol i dont think thats fair for my lavellan tbh. Esp her asking a romance inquisitor lavellan at the end of “what pride had wrought” if lavellan didn’t COMPLETELY denounce their culture, Sera’d plead to them saying “please move on and look forward, for me?”, that fucking, infuriates me. Moving on how, bitch? Like, please bring merrill back i can’t deal with this bullshit! “Move on”, as if you can move on if you don’t know what made you who you are and what shaped the experiences of your people, that’s called “running away from who you are”, not “moving on”.  I hate that I have to almost baby her while romancing her and I don’t think that’s how a romance relationship with an adult should be like that, but now that i think about it, maybe an adaar can have a chance to romance her while not babying her too much on this topic? while still being able to help her come in terms with things? I’d think a lavellan would have been put off by her bullshit too much to have romantic feelings for her, but an adaar can recognize some of whats going through for they too don’t “fit in” with their people (although that’s an entirely different story since their people would have treated her worse than a slave, thats not the case with sera), and talk about it without irritating sera too much that she’d cut off the conversation early. 

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, my female mage adaar would have gotten along with the Gay Team (iron bull, sera and dorian) SO WELL. all my other inquisitors don’t really fit in with them cause they always end up not liking one or two of them so much, but ADAAR? they are all her BEST FRIENDS (one of them being her gf lol). With my sera-romancing adaar, this team would have been Team Double Date (djsjds), its like 3/4 of lgbt community is out tonight shanking you ass! You get the G (Dorian), the L (sera), the B/P (Iron bull) and uhhh another L (my adaar lol), boom! boom! boom! boom! Quadruple rainbow threat! like, smh, i will see how it goes but if my adaar vibes well with sera, there is a chance she might replace my mage lavellan to become my ‘canon’ inquisitor dsjdsjsd. it’d be funny if i do actually pick sera over dorian at the end.

1. Leliana

Where do I even beginnn. i’m so sorry to all my followers bc tbh when am I NOT gushing about Leliana.  My first time playing DAO was over winter break in high school, maybe 10th grade or so. I was out as a lesbian, to my family and friends anyway for the most part, but I was nowhere near accepted (by family that I was out to).  I look back on that year somewhat fondly, but it still wasn’t a good time in my life in general.  Everything that Leliana told my Warden, I’d needed to hear.  Their relationship was something I really desperately needed: two women in love, and it was the most natural, beautiful, normal thing in the world.  I mean, sure, there were demons and darkspawn in the mix, but their love persisted beautifully and ads;lfkjas;dljf I could talk about it for hours and hours.  Ironic part is that I was originally pissed bc I wanted to romance morrigan and was disappointed when she was straight--I said pissed bc I was all “ewwww she’s reliiiigioussss” bc i was 15 and Edgy / wary of christians lol it all worked out

2. Sera

Remember that day when, on Heroes of Cosplay, a Sera cosplayer kissed a girl and then BioWare confirmed that she was a lesbian?  No?  Well I sure do, because I cried and stopped and cried again and again in little spurts because I was so damn happy.  There’s always #discourse and people hating her and whatever but damn I love our cookie-loving lesbian elf.  She is a fucking delight.  

3. Merrill

I owe Merill for helping me realize I wasn’t straight.  No, seriously.  Played DA2 before DAO for some unknown reason and whoo boy was I gay for that cutie elf.  I was also like 12 so there’s that!!! what an experience. Anyway her route with hawke has a very special place in my heart and just hearing her voice makes me super happy tbh!  Plus she’s a very interesting character, a fact that the fandom seems to uh not realize ahem anyway

4. Dorian Pavus

Fun fact, haven’t actually played through it yet.  But Dorian as a character means so much to me. I cried during his quest.  Because, well, as mentioned before, I know what that’s like (minus the blood magic and noble bloodline parts) and “You tried to change me” will ALWAYS GET TO ME because it hits so close to home.  I get emotional when I think about how with a romanced inquisitor, Dorian finally is able to be himself, to let himself love another man, he can finally imagine a future with someone he well and truly loves... Gaider can really be trash but this romance was so important, I’m glad a man wrote it.  

5. Mitsuru Kirijo, because DAMMIT THIS ISNT JUST BIOWARE.  Shows how good representation is everywhere else lmaooooooo. Ahem. Anyway.  I know this technically isn’t ~canon~ but damn I ship her with F!MC soooo hard.  Mitsuru’s social link with her is adorable and also super emotional.  So much growth for both of them... and like, it’s practically canon... almost... I just have so much emotion about them, okay?  Like, Hamuko (at least mine) would totally blame herself for Mitsuru’s father’s death, and would def go into SEES with some self-esteem issues. But despite this, Mitsuru values Hamuko’s presence and guidance, and the relationship they share, even over her fiance??? Like she was betrothed and went “you insulted her? fuck our betrothal, you’re out” like ..... that’s love yall
