this was super experimental so i will talk about my process (+ clearer version) under the cut

i’ve been looking at a lot of “messier” or more textured painting styles recently and an artist that stuck out to me is clariondeluna ! they posted a self-portrait recently that i really liked and i was super interested in the brushwork seen in their work. i love all the textures and how the shapes feel so loose yet everything is so detailed.

that’s not a method for me at all!!!! i cannot paint like that at all and the stuff i like to paint is very different to theirs. which is okay!!!! i had no intention to copy this artists style so closely like with what i tried to do in my raiden painting, i just wanted to try this style out :^)

it’s been a goal of mine to avoid over-rendering like i tend to do a lot, and i think i’ve been doing good with that recently! the mindset i’ve got going on right now is that if i find myself staring at it too hard for too long, i have to leave it and move on. if there’s still something wrong with it, i can fix it later once ive got a fresh view!

i’ve been trying a lot of things with my art this year. i always try to challenge myself with each piece, and to end the year off i wanted to be as uncomfortable as i possibly could be with this painting. i let myself draw whatever i wanted because i still wanted to enjoy it, but everything i did in this process was new, including parts of the subject matter.

i’ve never drawn a head at an angle like this, and i struggle with drawing mouths open. i don’t do bold lighting like this, and if i do, it’s not fire. i’ve never drawn fire! i also rarely work with warm colours and i hate using green, so i combined those to be my colour palette. i like working cleanly so instead of having a dozen different layers for one section, each section only had 1-2 layers for rendering. instead of clipping masks i would simply paint over things loosely and clean it up later. i never like having limbs cut off in a drawing so i had his other arm go GOD knows where. i don’t like weird patterned backgrounds so i made myself figure out how to like it!

IS THIS MY FAVOURITE PIECE OF ALL TIME. no. absolutely not. but i’m very proud of how this came out with all the challenges i put on myself. i WANTED to get better at these things and be more broad with my art, both in terms of the styles and subjects i portray.

okay let’s talk about wtf this drawing is

for those who don’t know, the design in this painting is my fatui/“Father” lyney fan design (read the design post here). the concept isnt super complicated and i don’t really have much explanation for it, but i wanted to combine the story of how lyney wanted a delusion before getting his vision, fire eating circus acts and how olympic medalists will bite their medal to prove it’s real??? don’t quote me on that i’m like 75% sure that’s a thing that happens. i don’t watch sports though so im just believing someone i heard on the internet ages ago.

anyways. i think fire eating acts are cool. and i think the fact that lyney wanted a delusion is very interesting to me. scratches my brain in the right places. and yk as a magician lyneys character revolves a lot around fooling people and creating illusions so i guess what im saying here is that lyney is trying to prove to himself that this power he’s been bestowed is real. bc his whole life his only constant has been lynette so he is trying to see if he can trust this new power. cause i guess this is an alternate universe where lyney does eventually become “Father” but he never got his vision ??? idk im not making lore for this i just wanted to dress up this funny little guy.

It can be from videos, streams, posts, whatever! Hell it can even be ideas that came from said thing too :)

Asking because I genuinely love to hear your opinion and maybe even find some lore I haven’t found yet.

oh. Oh god that’s such a tough question caus I have lore moments I love for all of them. For Zed, there’s a moment in Season 8 where he like. Goes into his brainspace or smth?? Idk but this is what spawned my headcanon about his pocket dimension. Also anything related to Wormman and Zedeath but I don’t consider them Zed so they don’t count. Zed running the Wormman Shop is very silly though.

For Impulse it’s DEFINITELY what happened to him post-Demise. Nobody talks about this, but Impulse had to go to Scar and use this thing called a “Resurrection Chamber” in order to get a new body. So. Like. Impulse just replaced his decaying body with a non decaying body. This is never acknowledged again. Also really love him canonically traveling to Season 7 via the Infinity Portal, surely nothing could go wrong. Can’t forget “I think I’m human” either. And the entirety of Season 8.

For Tango it’s either the existence of Tiny Tango (does anyone REMEMBER Tiny Tango???) tor that one clip from Secret Life where he talks about Redstone leaking into his brain.

And god where do I start for Skizz. Being lost on Legacy for 3 months, the fact he was canonically sending Impulse his Legacy episodes because we see Impulse watching them, the 3L Enderskizz, the Enderman torture roller coaster from Solo Skizz, the fact Endermen talk to him, anything related to Endermen actually I’m the Enderskizz guy. I have too many Skizz lore moments that I love, he is my favoritest guy.

so I just listened to Florence+the machines Cassandra and ts Cassandra one after the other and like…listen I know i don’t like ts but I’m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt and judge her music without letting my dislike cloud that judgement the worst part about that experience is that it’s genuinely an ok song. Like I write poetry(cringy poetry but it’s a good outlet and over the years I’ve learned the difference between actual poetic devices and just spitting out words that rhyme) and it sounds like something I would write?? Like not in a rude or patronising way but when I need to journal or whatever and I just write out the first thoughts I have and think its an absolute masterpiece and then a few hours later I look at it and go oh so I was delusional lol but by then the emotions have passed and I don’t feel like working on that poem anymore. That’s what her lyrics make me think of😭 like it’s an ok song but the references to her life actual ruined it for me I was trying to enjoy the song but then there’s a line about filling her cell with snakes or smth and it took me out of it immediately I was like ugh this drama again?? Really?? And without the Easter eggs the song is…boring?? Like she sings a portion in the beginning then the rest of the song is lines from that portion rearranged and sang the exact same way again?? And musically like there’s nothing?? With Florence’s Cassandra the music builds and makes you feel something for yourself whereas ts is meant to make you feel smth for her. Florence’s lyrics and melody were like a breath of fresh air after listening to ts. Florence feels like she truly has something to say and embodies that character she’s created for the song idk maybe that’s my own personal bias getting in the way tho sorry for the long ask I just wanted to get your thoughts because I really enjoy your analysis of her music it helps me feel less insane lol❤️❤️

Hope you are doing well, and if you are not- I hope that you will be doing well soon.

I cannot express enough how awkward the placement of Taylor Swift's "Lore" interjections has become in her music. Sometimes I truly feel like I am listening to two different songs every time she breaks the flow of the music to add so throw-back call to old drama. It's maddening- because on one hand I know that Swift wants people to think she is a great artist- yet she cannot stop acting like a preteen with a popular gossip blog by interjecting cheap-shots at her enemies at every possible turn. It's so- bad.

I am going to explain in a different post by Swift's "confessional" style of music doesn't actually live up to the precedent standard of the confessional poets from the 1960's- just because I want to clear the air in stating the literary difference between what Swift does (writing hit pieces against people she hates) and what true artists do with their confessional poetry (think Slyvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Robert Lowell- Etc.) wherein often the poets express dislike, hatred, messiness of human experience and the like. However, it's a remarkably different tone, and effectiveness, compared to Swift's rapacious, barbed insults towards her fellows in the industry or in life.

She really just can't ever let anything go, huh? It must be terribly stressful and lonely to live like that.

To the point you mention above- on how Swift's writing is so continuously self-reflexive that it no longer elicits any empathy in the audience- so that, yes, we do only feel something "for her." She does this by design. I think you are quite clever to see the rhetorical difference here. Swift is writing for herself- for her own "woe," but other writers are capable of writing from a broader perspective- one that elicits empathy in the audience- that builds on our common humanity. More detail on what I mean here will be posted in the "Cassandra" post soon. :)

Anywho, I quite enjoyed reading your perspective on the two songs. I feel a little bit more based seeing that other people key into the innate difference between the two texts- much like I do.

I enjoy much of Florence's work- though not all of it. I do, however, respect that she, unlike Swift, actually seems to understand the Cassandra archetypal pattern. All I'm really after here- is just some artists who know how to think and create!

Swift's work is just cringy self-effacing "poetry" meant to pull sympathy and pity from people. It's actually giving me second-hand embarrassment. I think everyone at some point in life seeks pity and sympathy from others- yet most people grow out of this impulse somewhere around the teen years. Because it's just dreadfully juvenile to always being seeking pity- it's like when toddlers whine to get something they want. The proper thing to do is to tell the toddler- "Hey, use your words to tell me what you want, because I cannot understand you when you whine like that."

I wish someone would tell Taylor Swift to grow up and stop whining like a toddler who never learned how to properly express themselves.

But- I think you are right. Without the odd interjection of "lore," she wouldn't be able to write a full song. She's completely dependent on her audience's juvenile interest in gossip.

Tbhk has a really bad pacing problem, among a few other things

Ever since the Picture Perfect arc it’s just been… unbearably slow.. the pacing in the recent chapters compared to the beginning is so strange. Tbhk has always been pretty slow paced compared to other mangas, so much so it really warped my perception with other mangas. And the pacing doesn’t really add to much, it’s not like the lore of tbhk is anywhere near being somewhat understandable. And it has its pros! The art is beautiful, and character banter is fun. But so much of the time is spent explaining yet somehow also…not? New things are introduced, partially explained, and then either forgotten or become a major feature of the story.

Boundaries being a pretty big example. they ARE explained..barely. The rules and purpose of them isn’t exactly clear? Are specified boundaries just for the mysteries? It doesn’t seem so since they show a specific boundary in the spin-off (which canonicity is highly debatable, but it’s never been denounced from canon, so i literally don’t know), along with mentioning a boundary in Brazil (which brings a lot of other things into question about wherethe hell the boundaries even are). So is it just boundaries with a yorishiro that are specific to the mysteries?

With Yako, Tsuchigomori, and Shijima, their yorishiros are in the farthest reaches of the boundary. and the same can partially be said for The Hell of Mirrors (I’m not sure). And the rule seems to partially follow for Hakubo, but Sumire is also shown leaving the boundary with no issue so idk. But the Clock-Keeper’s is just?? Inside Kako?? That’s not the farthest reaches?? Same with Hanako, unless Tsukasa originally resided inside of Hanako’s boundary before he was removed (presumably for Sakura). So does the rule just not include them? Or is it not a rule and instead just a common trend or whatever.

I also literally do not get Mitsuba as The Hell of Mirrors, aren’t boundaries supposed to be unique to the spirit in charge?? Or did Tsukasa specifically make Mitsuba with having him be The Hell of Mirrors in mind?

Back to pacing though. The recent chapters have been unnecessarily slow, like so slow that barely anything is happening. And I’m losing hope for some big interesting action cause it’s just been…bad. The fandom has been so dead and it’s obvious the pacing currently is why. Literally nothing is happening, nothing even brainrot worthy. Like the pacing for the previous arcs was slow but this is another level of drawn out.

Personal anecdote rq but I was so used to tbhk’s slow pace that reading literally any other manga feels like whiplash, reading chainsaw man was so difficult because I was expecting it to be slow and i ended up never understanding what was going on at all. Or maybe I’m just illiterate uhm

Moonchild-in-blue: The blues and purples!! Opals and the insides of muscle shells inspired me a lot with the coloring (particularly the stars and moon). There’s another shell that has that shiny blue and green lining on the inside but I can’t remember the name of it. It was a full moon last night but I forgot to take a picture! Thought of you but anyways I loved coloring the lady. It was fun but I first I struggled on deciding if I wanted more blue or purple.

A-s-levynn: More Dark Sun Gwyndolin inspiration… (you can tell I have my dark souls art books open next to me right now). As requested, tendrils/tentacles were added! I think it improved the design a whole lot because it was originally very symmetrical and the tentacles added just the right amount of asymmetry to balance out the overall look. I’m a huge fromsoft fan (playing Elden Ring, waiting for new DLC, have dark souls 1 remastered but haven’t started it yet, have bloodborne Elden ring and DS1/3 art books) so lots of my art has elements from Fromsoft games (neutron activation).

final thoughts on battle for the pridelands

my liveblogging was… chaotic, to say the least, but I wanted to really gather my thoughts on this episode because its a big, big one. figuratively AND literally lol.

first things first the new designs straight up shook me in a /neu way, it’s not that I don’t like them but I just wasn’t ready to let go of the old designs yet, y’know? I kind of dislike how Fuli’s design feels like a completely different character, but otherwise it’s eh. I think seeing the guard grow up just made me emotional, haha. I wish Janja, Cheezi, Chungu and Jasiri got new designs tho, since I hc them to be roughly around the same age as the rest of the guard. I understand that making new designs for a whole bunch of characters (characters that wouldn’t be appearing much later, too) would be a lot of work but it just felt kind of odd to see Jasiri unchanged next to Teen Kion or whatever. Maybe at least change some tiny details, if not the entire design.

I like that they delved more into Kion worrying this time. it really puts into perspective that.. yea, these guys are child soldiers. thats. gonna come with a lot of emotional load. seeing Fuli and the others worry about Kion was a nice touch too, honestly. definitely opens up for thoughts about just HOW much these guys are affected by the whole child soldier thing. hearing all five of them sing again was wonderful <3 especially Ono, since he doesn’t get to sing a lot.

Scar’s betrayal of Janja was expected, lol. I actually REALLY like the way the show carried out Janja’s redemption, and WOW his song slaps. the guard + Janja’s clan getting stuck in the Lair while it was on fire was also really interesting to me, and I wish they hadn’t taken the route of them just.. escaping through Beshte’s pool. it was like.. what was the point of putting them there then? I’ll probably put more stakes in my maybe-going-to-exist rewrite, but lets see how I go with that.

*COUGH* why does Kiara basically look the same *COUGH* Kion looks older than her at this point *COUGH COUGH*

oookay, the stuff that went down at the volcano was WHEW. Scar’s song with this Strange Lion guy was like wow ok so . introducing new lore to explain why you’ll give Kion his scar and then completely forget abt it (or at least I think they do, I still haven’t watched the rest of the season), nice! buuut also creative, dare I say. song’s not bad!

ANGST. Scar singing the song Sisi Ni Sawa, the show’s most popular song, to Kion and LITERALLY MEANING IT. this is one of the few(?) times the show outright parallels Scar and Kion, and god I actually loved it. the fanfic writer side of me is leaning forward in my chair because there is no way Kion’s not going to forget that thought. Scar’s last words to Kion were literally “Sisi Ni Sawa”. Kion is the Direct Successor of Scar in terms of Lion Guard leader. THE POTENTIAL. THE ANGST. (cough) okay, but apart from that yahoo more delving into Kion’s character.

Bunga diving in to save Kion from Ushari and then promptly falling into the lava gave me a fricking heart attack. call me dramatic but started getting emotional on the spot. ONO FLYING INTO THE LAVA TO SAVE HIM did NOT help, and someone save my poor boy I feel so bad for him agh 😭

The outlanders reaction to Scar being gone felt kind of bland, but then again I’m not really sure what else it COULD have been. I’m sure some of you do, though, so feel free to share your thoughts:].

I am Absolutely Unwell over the fact that Ono has technically lost his vision and as a person who ships bunga x ono AND bunga x ono x beshte you better expect me to write something about it. Lion Guard writers I am coming for your kneecaps (or whatever the saying is now, idk).

there’s.. a lot of things I would have changed, but thats because I dislike how childish the show can get sometimes. call me out, I deserve it, the show is meant for kids, but it has potential!!! I’m not outright hating how kiddy it is, heck I’m like. mega fan of kid’s shows, but all I say is that it has the potential to turn into something less for kids, more maybe for pre-teens and above.

again, not sure if I’ll rewrite the episode since I’ll have to do a lot of thinking, but it is definitely something I’ll consider! shoutout to my mutuals for being with me till here, and for supporting me in my very much chaotic liveblogs. love you guys dearly /p /gen

i am actually the bravest human alive for surviving this episode

(lmao i joke. MOSTLY. but op lore: i suffer from a chronic illness that gives me terrible nausea and MAN this was NOT the episode you want to sit down and unwind with if you’re feeling ill. for the plague be upon them all. and yet! here we are. my love for these agents must be quite boundless.)

“diseaseee episode… okay so it is probably body horror time maybe idk” <- first thing in my notes, and yes. yes, it was body horror time.

(we open with a fellow in the rainforest catching bugs) and to me it’s giving “he was in the amazon with my mom when she was researching spiders just before she died” which was such a funny meme. we moved on from this too quickly. those words will always make me giggle.

that is a turkey vulture… do they have those in Costa Rica? yes they do! wow, bird facts <3

ohh nasty, we see a dead hog in the rainforest, being consumed by bugs… bug scientist takes some of them while it pulsates… and my nausea strikes!!!

AUGHHH the boil blew up on his face. this is eeeeevil!! i was diverting my attention AWAY from the screen at this point and really staring at my notes in the hope they could shield me from the nastiness

NOOOO now the bug scientist’s face is covered in the boils… the vultures got him and so did the bugs, and i am getting the impression this is gonna be a tough watch, but i’m in too far now!!!! (it had been like. 5 minutes lmao but i meant it!)

scene change: prison time.

(is this the outside of the prison they used to film the Please Please Please music video or do they all just look the same?)

a prisoner has been sent a package. it is…. some kind of meat??? can you send meat in the mail…? just wrapped up in newspaper? i find this hard to believe, but maybe things were different in the 90’s, or we can suspend disbelief for the sake of the alien show

the meat is pulsating and now the prisoner who received it has the same boils…… deeply unfortunate for all parties involved

and now boil disease is spreading in the prison!! two guards escaped on a cart carrying the infected man's dirty sheets. so they are pretty much gonna die. but will they spread the sickness to the outside world before they do so?

enter our agents!!

this dude who claims to be in charge is a real jerk. and the agents don’t even know why they got sent there beyond to help with a manhunt, which seems beneath them. but there are some people in hazmat suits, so it’s not adding up.

the convicts are hiding in a rest stop and stole a camper from a poor family :( way to ruin vacation.

scully can tell everyone is LYING and she hates lies and bursts into the hospital area, despite the doctor trying to keep her out… it’s a serve, but at what cost to her health???

here, we learn what is at stake: 14 men have been infected, and 10 have died so far. YIKES! this is not good news.

she always answers the phone with “mulder, it’s me” and idk why I find that so endearing. but maybe I’m just at the point where everything these nerds do wins me over 

NOOOO the dad from the camper was killed…  vacation ruined even more than previously thought 

back at the prison, a dude in a hazmat suit tried to kick scully out by saying that she is violating federal orders by being there, and she says “i’m a federal agent”…. a queen of dealing with nonsense. she needs to know if the escaped men are out and about spreading this!!

“you see what I let you see”, says a man drunk on the power of a lot of people dying around him. and i love that these men think they can handle whatever this disease is without any help whatsoever (/s) the arrogance of men has no limits. 

the convict is coming home… to his gf and baby… SPARE THE BABY from the bubbling disease!!!

one of the dudes who escaped is on the floor of the gas station bathroom, moaning and groaning and covered in boils, and the other convict smacks the poor cashier helping him on the head with a wrench... truly despicable behaviors. and he was probably doing all of this for minimum wage!!

scully in da incinerator room... what is she doing there! she has a mask and some gloves and some bodies to investigate. she cuts one of the bagged bodies open. 

NOOO the doctor tries to stop her and the juice gets in his eye… he runs away. rip doctor. your fate has been sealed.

(rolling up to the gas station w the marshals and a million dudes in sunglasses that look like horrible people to catch the escaped convicts)

mulder finds the poor cashier that got whacked and says “kid’s got a lot of hair, probably absorbed the blow” which is a crazy thing to say 

now he is trying to track the phone call the convict made to figure out where he went, but he’s using the same payphone as the sick man, and the germs... i’m scared!

mulder gives his badge number to the operator. It’s JTT-047101111. will this information be of any use at any time? no. but I still wrote it down <3

woah loud noise! a helicopter arrives to put the cashier in some sort of incubator. this cashier has really had a bad time. and no one is explaining anything!!!! so he doesn’t even know where they are taking him or why!! transparency has never been anyone in the government’s strong suit, i guess.

convict cam. he is reunited with his gf. they are smooching. and that is not good for her survival rate i would guess. after they make out a lil, he shows her the other mostly dead guy in his car. i assume he will be joining the family but not for long. i'd be pissed if my man brought someone home after his prison escape. this was supposed to be about US and not some dude i don't know named paul dying in our bed...

okay the package of the meat was sent from kansas… sus…. from a pharmaceutical company?? could it be a fake return address… (spoiler: no, it was not!)

OUGHHHH the camera cuts to dead flesh and boils and blood BLEAGGHH and scully extracts a BUG from it…. 

back to the convicts. the woman is trying to help the guy who is filled with pus, and she bends down to try and cool off his fever, and just as this happens the boil bursts!!! her face is splashed with nastiness and i moaned “nooooo” and hit pause so fast because I nearly gagged... but this was not a foolproof plan, because it paused on all the stuff getting on her face, so i saw it even more, which was SO NASTY EVIL EVIL NASTY GROSSSSSS JAIL. she’s trying to scrub it off. 

just as she tries to get it off, the marshals burst in and get her. so now they might get the boils… also someone scoops up the baby… put him in a better situation… but the other prisoner is gone!! where did his slippery ass sneak out to?!?

(we see an outside shot of the prison again and AGAIN I think this is the same one from the please please please mv. sabrina carpenter can you confirm or deny? i know you read this blog)

the doctor who was earlier splashed upon has revealed his boils to scully. but this is not all he reveals: he was LYING about the CDC being involved!!! it’s the pharmaceutical company that sent the package to the prison that did all this, and he works for them!! they finance discovering stuff in the rainforest to use in drugs… and they found the bug. and the bug has a parasite on it that makes the boils and the larvae are in the explosion. so explosion = infection.

CIG MAN IS IN THE CORNER. mulder goes over to talk to him directly. is he trying to get them killed!!!!! because it looks like cigarette man put them on this case involving lethal infectious diseases because he wanted to get rid of them. oh, mulder is ANGRY about them lying to the public

meeting with skinner was NOT a success. he angrily fumbles with his seatbelt when scully calls to report the latest in plague news 

they disagree on what to do here: he says the public has to know about the situation, and she says that they don't because the panic will spread faster than the contagion. oooo, juicy moral conflict! but i must admit. pandemic questions interest me less having lived through one of my own.

despite his frustration that she is making a point about not being able to tell the world just yet, he asks "are you okay in there scully?”, and she says yes, tells him to catch the fugitive, and to "take care of yourself out there"... and her not knowing if she is gonna live or die, so she tells him to take care of himself...... has me very emo

now, she is locked into quarantine with the infected doctor, who is testing her for the disease, which involves trapping a bug to her arm and waiting for it to bite her. which is quite hellish. she looks truly disturbed by the event and frankly so was i.

mulder interrogating the woman whose bf is the escaped convict. trying to find him, but being distracted by her moral questions on who deserves to know the truth... not now, ask these heavy things later. success! convict boil man is on his way to the bus station.

cutscene to the convict trying to buy a bus ticket. and coughing all over the ticket woman. another minimum wage worker victimized by disease. wear ur masks people!

back at the lab, the bug has FINALLY bitten her, but the doctor from the company is going down. he says she has to tell the world if her test is negative because it WILL happen again. way to push your guilt onto someone else, mister pharmaceutical man!

cut to her extracting blood from bugs. how in the hell did they film that scene??? she takes a deep breath and looks at the blood to see if she’s gonna die or not. and she sighs but that isn’t an answer for us, the audience. (spoilers: it was negative...... thank god)

in the incinerator of the prison, they are destroying all the evidence!!! by tossing all the bodies into a fire!!! the pharmaceutical company is covering its tracks!!! they say it was unavoidable but she says “we'll leave that up to others to decide!!!” oh he pulls the “no one will believe you” card… but she’s sneaky, maybe she’ll think of something that can prove it all to the rest of the world

back to the marshals and mulder at the bus station. no pressure but the prisoner who is about to die HAS to make a statement or else everything will be entirely covered up by the pharmaceutical company that killed these people. again, no pressure!! 

mulder going on the bus with the infected convict.... nooo mulder, be careful, i whisper softly to the screen. and sensing his tricks, the sick man holds a boy with a gun to his head once he gets on there!!!

mulder's voice is all growly- you know how it gets when he’s serious. but the sick man is coughing all over the little boy. and foaming at the mouth. mulder convinces him to let the kid go, and tries to get that statement that will prove everything... but....

NOOOOOOOO!!!! the marshals shoot the guy before he can learn what was in the package!!!!!!

so, in all: the pharmaceutical company was using the prisoners as guinea pigs to get their drug on the market without FDA testing… truly sick and twisted!!!

mulder is reporting this to skinner, and he’s gonna tell the public!!! mulder says that covering the truth makes skinner just as guilty as the men who infected the prisoners (which i'm not sure i agree with but i love a man obsessed with the moral weight of his actions)!! but scully bursts in and says they can’t prove anything because the tracks were so thoroughly covered.

mulder is adding things up... that’s why they were given the assignment, so that if they tried to expose the whole thing, they would be discredited!!!

skinner says “you never had a chance, mulder; for every step you take, they’re three steps ahead” “where do you stand?” “i stand right on the line that you keep crossing” <- OHHHHH zinger.

but i'm conflicted... i thought skinner and i were tight after he intervened to save mulder a few episodes ago, but now I don’t know… skinner, my feelings towards you are complex and unnavigable 

“i’m saying this as a friend: watch your back. This is just the beginning” <- WHAT DO YOU KNOW SKINNER!!!!!

there are questions here- such as, to what point does skinner knowingly go along with the corruption in the government? if the government was involved with killing prisoners on behalf of a drug company, what other evil twisted things are they hiding? to what extent can skinner, and every other person in the FBI, be blamed for complicity? is it at all possible to make positive change in a corrupt system?

also, are these the same guys who are hiding the aliens, or do you think that 's a different evil government department?

what was cig man doing there and why does skinner keep letting him into his office like a stray cat that gets one free meal from a nice human? (but that stray cat is evil and was involved in kidnapping scully) should we send skinner to the cancel chambers or is he a real mfer deep down? also, where the hell is krycek? not that I give a fuck. he sucked.

More of Milo, and you know what? Heck it I’m gonna do a lore dump as well.

Plot

Milo is really bland guy. He’s got a basic fashion sense, has no talents, no friends, and no ambitions. Until one day when an amulet falls from the sky and hits him in the face while on his way to school.

Nothing happens until much later in the day when the town is attacked by an unknown galaxy like creature and he transforms….into a really uncomfortably girly fit, but he’s got a whip so now he can fight the monster. He very unceremoniously strangles whatever it is and untransforms.

When he’s returned to his normal state a very angry lion familiar bursts out of the amulet to yell at him. Turns out he was never meant to get this amulet and turn into a magical girl, the amulet was actually supposed to go to the clumsy pink-haired girl who’d been standing next to him at the bus stop. But she’d hopped on a bus right before the amulet fell out of the sky.

The lion familiar (Lee) is really pissed off because if Milo hadn’t triggered the transformation then they could’ve just found another way to get to that girl from earlier. But now they’ve fought together they’re bonded and neither of them can do anything about it. Milo’s confused, Lee’s pissed, it’s generally not a fun time for anyone.

Eventually (after a really awkward silence), Milo asks about whether Lee can change his magical outfit. Lee reluctantly agrees even though they rlly liked the outfit they made up before (the outfit in the art above is the new outfit).

From there they’ll meet the other girls in the group and over time Milo becomes the leader of the group, finally becoming less boring.

The magical world

Now that we know the plot (or well the shell of it), let’s move onto the magic system.

So I didn’t make this clear before but all the magical girls represent a Zodiac (Milo is obviously Leo). And all of them have a special animal as a second theme:

Aquarius: Seal

Pisces: Some kind of fish

Aries: Ram

Taurus: Bull

Gemini: Bunny

Cancer: Crab (specifically a yeti crab)

Leo: Lion

Virgo: Swan/Peacock (I’m still deciding)

Libra: Owl

Scorpio: Scorpion

Sagittarius: Horse

Capricorn: Seahorse

They each have three powers: Moon power, Sun power, Rising power. Their rising power is the weakest but they can use it multiple times if they need, it’s based off of their Zodiac’s element and normally involves their weapon. Milo’s for example is a fire whip kinda thing.

Their Sun power is stronger but they can only use it once per transformation. It’s based off their special animal. Idk what Milo’s is yet, what I had planned worked better as his moon power.

Speaking of: their moon power is their strongest move. When they use it (which can’t be often because it drains their familiars a lot) they go into a trance like state and their special animal forms around them. The power they can use in this state is based off of their Zodiac. For example: Milo can use a power called ‘Nemean wall of Fire’, which is a huge fiery shield he can summon and use to protect himself or others (main character type power yk).

Both the person and the familiar have to be in sync with one another to use these powers, so there needs a bond between them otherwise the magic might not work properly. This would be explored later once Sagittarius is introduced as she uses a wheelchair and so if her transformation goes wrong then the support she needs could disappear (I’ll explain it more once I have her design down) and that would suck real hard for her because then she wouldn’t be able to move without leaning on something. So for her the bond is vital. And that gets explained to her and everyone else in the group.

Anyway this is all still a work in progress so any suggestions are welcome. :)

soto started so strong and ended so. bland.

editing bc i actually really want to rant. hopefully mostly coherent rambles bc im going on like 5 hrs sleep lol

the base release was genuinely, while on the shorter end, good. interesting characters and intrigue, both from the kryptis and the (presumably skeevy) wizards/astral ward. fun lore collections. we learn about one of the astral ward who left, which shouldn’t be possible. the intrigue! (that’s never brought up again.....) the majority of zojja’s post-hot story was done thru text but it was!!! actually v good!! her ascension made me feel a mix of icky at her losing her memories and glad she found a new family - and then all that ~mystery~ and moral ambiguity surrounding the astral ward just *poof* gone.

the nayos patches started and we went from “fighting against the kryptis and also low key side eyeing the astral ward bc what they’re doing seems dubious at best and breaking some kind of moral law at worst” to “the kryptis are literally like any other group we’ve ever encountered and aren’t actually that bad and we need to overthrow their big bad the end”. oh and do about 5-10 events between story steps ty.

there were a lot of qol additions during the soto era, and i’m going to give the next xpac one more shot, but if its of the same calibre or worse (bc what’s going to be the big draw, theyve already pulled ledgy armor out of their back pocket), idk man. idk.

One of my favorite things to do after events in Genshin is to find the various characters scattered across the map and see what they have to say so I don’t miss out on any possible lore drops or whatever, and two pieces of dialogue that really stood out to me were these from Venti, Mona, and Klee. Venti’s little love poem reminds me a lot of how I envision the true form of my Sagau story’s Creator to look like. Caratrice’s true form is a six-winged dragon who’s design is based off of a mixture of Reshiram (my favorite legendary Pokémon) and biblically accurate angels. Her primary colors are white and gold, and Venti mentions both of those colors in his poem. “A shade more ethereal than white/yet more radiant still than gold…” To me, it kinda sounds like he’s writing a love poem to Caratrice, which is sort of funny because I really do see Barbatos being one of the most devoted followers of the Creator. He would 100% write cheesy love poems to any incarnation of the Creator, whether it be my version of them or someone else’s, because he genuinely adores them with all of his heart. Too bad he’s set up to be an antagonist in my story…bummer.

With Klee and Mona, I just thought it was funny that the most common way to refer to the playable characters in my Sagau story is to call them “Vessels” and Klee doesn’t even know what that word means. Who chose this child to be an envoy of the Creator? And where the fuck is her mother??

Ever since I started writing Messianic Aureation I’ve picked up on a lot of things in Genshin that make me feel like the characters are listening to me or can even see what I’m writing. I know they aren’t and it’s just my overactive imagination, but still, part of me can’t help but be afraid that I could be contributing to a case of videogame self awareness lmao.

Btw I will say that I am moderately okay at drawing dragons, so I may attempt to sketch out a rough design of Caratrice’s true form and post it here for people to see. Idk if I’ll ever get around to doing it but if I do look out for it!

later on, it was bc in my lore tiso and quirrel (we all know how popular this ship is) were established very strictly to be ONLY friends. i wanted them to have close platonic relationship, mainly bc when tiso is traveling the wasteland he doesn’t really have any just… friends. his relationship with his sister is godawful no matter how much he says they’re close, and he idolizes his younger brother for being better than him, and he’s (as you read in the fic) stuck in this awful inbetween of feeling like he isn’t enough. his friendship with quirrel is basically the only healthy platonic relationship he has in the wastes and coming into hallownest, and idk it just felt… cheap. to write it off as ‘oh also they’re lovers now’. i have nothing against tisoquirrel ofc, like you do whatever you want, but it just didn’t feel right with what i had written.

beowulf (my name for hive knight) just felt like… a more appropriate way to go. they’re both warriors from similar cultures, and with tiso spending most of his time in kingdom’s edge they’re far more likely to meet regularly vs quirrel who probably drops in to chat maybe once or twice a week. they both have kind of similar arcs in losing a sense of purpose for a while (death of vespa for beo, loss of colony for tiso), and then finding a new purpose together and aubrjdiwndjw. it felt like such a lovely conclusion for them!

Anwyas, I’m probably not going to talk about lore all that much idk yet, probably just about the world itself and it’s characters, images are probably going to sprinkled about in the post so that’s fun.

Anyways(x2) time to begin ✨✨

{ THE WORLD }

The world itself is know as the spirit isles (thanks fantasy world generator for that one) though despite being called there’s a severe lack of spirits around (for a reason.) it’s split into three kingdoms, Land, Sea & Sky, they live pretty close to one another, the sea kingdom is this massive ass lake in the middle of the world, the land is everywhere surrounding it and the sky is composed of large floating islands.

{ GUARDIANS }

The aisles and it’s people where created by the eight guardians, two for each kingdom (as featured in my lovely list below)

So yeah, they created their own respective lands and kept watch for a few hundred thousand years (maybe longer, there’s no actual way to tell.) they kept the peace and order and made sure everything ran smoothly and there was no conflicts between lands. The guardians were (unrelated) siblings to put it easily. No one knows why they aren’t around anymore.

{ THE PEOPLE/BASES }

The people are essentially hybrids. They have an ‘animal base’ that makes it so they have features of what ever animal they’re based off of.

These are the kind of mock I made to show how it kind of works though it might not be the clearest.

So that’s the general gist of how it works, people born on land have a land animals base, sky with animals with flight and such and sea with water animals. For animals that technically fit two categories (like let’s say a platypus because they can be in both land and sea) they could be classified as either one but are usually classified by whatever kingdom they’re born into. So if your a platypus born in the sea kingdom, you’re technically classed as a sea based person.

Some people (though it isn’t the most common to see) can have two based, our lovely MC (more on him soon) has the base of both a lemon shark and flying fish so he’s both sky and sea (in this, we’ll imagine the wings of a flying fish can provide actual flight)

{ MAGIC }

The magic system at the moment is a dumpster fire but what I’ve got working for me is this:

Magic and the kind of magic you get is largely based on what your animal base is and whatever classification they fit. So a land based person would probably have land based magic and so on and so forth with the other two bases. There’s a chance a person can have magic that doesn’t really fit their base, one of the characters is a sky based person and has fire magic. But it’s not the most common thing to see.

You can also be born without magic. This is actually rarer than having a different type of magic to your base because of the fact the people of the isles were all originally created to have magic. These people usually turn to magical artefacts to preform magic. They make excellent potion makers.

Also, the thing that allows them to do magic in the first place is known as a magic spark there’s not a lot to offer in terms of information other than it’s what allows the people of the isles to do magic. It’s essentially their soul. Each magic spark has a unique colour (I can’t say that they aren’t identical in colour because I’m not sure there’s enough colours for that) the colour of a magic spark influences the colour of a persons magic.

{ CHARACTERS }

{ Leo }

Leo is our lovely MC I briefly mentioned. He’s the guy the story primarily follows and focuses on. He’s part lemon shark and flying fish, allowing him to switch between sea and land forms. He has storm magic that he has very little control over at the start, leading to him blackmailing the hell out of One in order to gain better control. His magic spark colour is yellow, but closer to gold.

He lives a good life, neither parents are present in his life but that’s okay, he’s taken care of by a distant uncle (who is yet to be given a design and name) his uncle cares deeply and constantly worries for the kid’s safety.

He’s great friends with Amila, and later, Bait (those two are characters belonging to two of my close friends)

{ One/Prisoner One }

Jay keeps attempting to steal him

Given his name due to the fact he is the first and only prisoner of the sky kingdom, One was locked up for ten years for burning down a large chunk of the sky castle. He escaped after those ten years and at the time of the story starting, lives in a dumpster next to a very kind old lady who feeds him like a feral cat occasionally.

He’s a crow hybrid with fire magic and a cyan/blue magic spark.

Quite literally, when he meets Leo, he’s sat in his dumpster holding a mouldy piece up to his mouth about to take a massive bite of it.

He, at first also wants to do nothing with Leo and tries to get the get to fuck off and leave him alone (failing miserably seeing as Leo comes back everyday) but after Leo threatens to spill his location to the king of the sky he doesn’t really get a choice but to help the kid control his magic.

Slowly though, he gets used to Leo, his presence and the weird shit that seems to be attracted to him dragging them both on weird quest things every other day.

He’s also a war criminal.

A wonderful crimes list that 100% didn’t get me accused of committing these crimes by my friends.

{ Nora }

not allowed to die

It’s the sweet old lady who feeds One!!

She’s an elephant based person with plant rejuvenation magic and a lavender coloured spark. Nora lives in the Sky kingdom because her husband was an eagle and the two lives up there together until her husband passed. There wasn’t much point in leaving her home so she stayed. Nora feeds one on nights where she “accidentally” makes more food than needed. Her and One never interact, when she gives him food it’s by sitting it on the windowsill that faces the dumpster and by morning, there’s empty dishes sitting there instead. They’ve never actually interacted before, Nora respecting that One would rather not interact with people.

Nora also covers for One often, if she’s got visitors and One makes a loud noise (which is inevitable with wings) she’ll just say it’s the feral cat that hangs around often (not an entire lie. One definitely hisses like a cat) it work’s surprisingly well.

Me and Jay (who listens to me infodump about the Isles crew) have decided Nora is too sweet of a lady to die of any cause and is therefore, immortal/J but I’m never writing her death.

{ King of the Sky/King Ryan }

If I hear one comment about his design and name I will loose it/hj

Ryan, King of the sky isn’t seen as often anymore. A victim in the fire that burned the castle and parts of the kingdom. His wings have been singed and he can no longer fly due to that. It’s the reason the sky kingdom became so accessible for those who can’t fly after that. He’s also been burned on half his face and can’t see out his right eye.

his magic is a little more vast but easily described as just just air magic. His soul spark colour is light grey

{ King of the Sea/King Orca }

if anything bad happens to him I’m pretty sure I’d get killed 👍👍

King Orca, the king of the sea and definitely not named after his animal base. He’s a kind and understanding man who does his best to look after those inside and outside his kingdom. He’s very well liked and incredibly active in the community.

His animal base is an Orca (surprising.) and his sea magic consists of control over the oceans. His spark is dark blue.

He does actually have a land form, it’s kinda needed given how he’s a king and the other two royals have legs. His appearance is one of a human. It’s not like in Leo’s case where he’s got wings, Orca is just human in his land form.

In the beginning of the story, he’s not active, not even really mentioned all too much. But he does eventually become more active in the story. Especially after one certain piece of story I have created.

{ Queen of the land/Queen Sapphire }

Jay doesn’t like her. I mildly dislike her

The queen of the land, an independent woman with a no nonsense attitude and a strong sense of justice (wether or not that sense of justice is good or bad is debatable.)

Queen Sapphire is a deer hybrid with both healing and shapeshifting magic, shapeshifting being her primary and provided to her via her spark and healing from her crystal that she wears on head head. (It’s connected to a couple chains that keep it on her head. You’ll see.) her spark colour is dark grey, and the magic colour of the crystal is green, making her healing magic to be green.

this woman fucking hates One. Like badly. Like if she sees him, it is on sight. But she’s not the most prominent in the story so this interaction may not ever happen. Haven’t decided yet.

this is about as much as I’m willing to dump without completely delving into the plot of their story. So uh. Congrats if you’ve read this far!!! It took all day to write this because life sometimes hits harder than I hit one very specific oc not mentioned here with a bat ✨
