will never not find it funny when I’m reading a marauders/hp fic and whoever wrote it is very clearly american and apparently has no idea what british people sound like

let me just rant a bit bc i gotta let some of this frustration out

so there was this one period in the md///zs fandom when everyone was talking about the ince///nse burn///er extras (but none of the other extras amazingly enough) and it was......... well it wasn’t the best time

like then i sorta skimmed said extras and went with the popular opinion that they were Bad and Not Canon and should absolutely be ignored (even tho i kinda liked them but that made me feel extremely ashamed)

but now my views have changed quite a bit and i’ve been thinking about just how ridiculous the fandom’s reaction was. 

because yea they can be interpreted as ‘’’’problematiqueueueu’’’’ (as everything else on this planet) but people went as far as to say that the author is homophobic and doesn’t know her own characters and shouldn’t have written said extras and that she shouldn’t insert her kinks into her books lest she ‘’’’taint’’’’ the ‘’’pure’’’ couple

and im just. i can’t wrap my head around this

1. it’s her book. she can write whatever the fuck she wants. writing is a way of self-expression. why shouldnt she insert her own kinks into her own books l m f a o

1a. they’re her characters. not yours. she knows them better than you do. if this is how she sees them having sex, that’s fine. you can disagree with her. but going as far as to say she shouldn’t have written said extras????? who tf are you to say that

2. why tf you gotta call her homophobic and fetishistic and whatever the fuck based on some smut you happen to dislike?? you don’t know her personally. you don’t know what her views are. this is just what she wrote. do you go online and personally insult everyone who creates content you don’t like?? (i mean some of yall do but literally wtf)

3. why do people get so up-in-arms about dan///mei and asian m/m fiction in general for being ‘’’’fetishistic’’’’ and ‘’het girll fantasy’’’ and whateveer the fuck else WHEN THERE’S PLENTY. AND I MEAN PLENTY OF STRAIGHT AMERICAN WOMEN WRITING THE EXACT SAME THING BUT IN ENGLISH. AND YET YALL NEVER HARP ON THOSE 

but then again why is it wrong for straight women specifically to write  ‘’’’’problematiqueueu’’’’ elements in their m/m stories. if you think about it a little it’s quite easy to realize why a lot of women read and write specifically m/m stories with dark elements but wait i forgot that anything you personally don’t like is automatically bad and harmful and should be deleted from existence

and now that i’ve read them back to back, i don’t actually understand why people talked abt the sv extras as if they were devil incarnate as well, even saying they’re worse than the md////zs ones when it comes to the smut????? when if you actually read them back to back, md////zs smut definitely has a lot more ‘’’proeblemamtiaqie’’ elements.

not that i’m here to debate which one’s ‘’’worse’’’’ bc i happen to enjoy all of said extras and i do not in fact think they’re badly written or out of character or harmful to society at large or whatever the fuck else ppl could come up with

and even now i’ve seen c////ql fans say that c////ql is superior bc in the novel it’s so obvious by wang////xian’s interactions that it was written by a het woman and it feels fetishistic

1. do you know what ‘fetishistic’ means. if so do you realize that fictional characters cannot be fetishized. or rather, they’re already fetishized by virtue of existing. because they’re fictional. i hate this argument so much

2. why exactly is c////ql superior considering that a lot of it’s scenes were pulled straight from the novel??? is it bc of the lack of explicit scenes? if so, i suggest you reflect a bit on your views on those things

3. c///ql literally wouldn’t exist without the novel so idk why exactly you feel so superior. also like. there’s a very high chance that c///ql as well was created by straight people, and that GASP even straight women worked on it. - also the actors made an effort to portray their characters as close to the original as they could. SO WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR POINT HSNGHDNSNGN

again, it’s fine to dislike anything and everything she’s written but you don’t gotta be shitty about it lmfao
