i have such a visceral reaction to using "female" when referring to women in fiction that it actually draws me way out of the narrative when it's done. like. stop that.
#this is about sarah j maas' books btw why does she constantly use male/female to refer to gender#like i get that she cant necessarily use woman/man since she deals primarily with fantasy races or w/e#but like. you can if you want to lol#idk something about 'the fae male' just sounds wayyyy too clinical to me#esp when youre trying to make jokes or sound casual in banter??? total tonal dissonance#but she also does this in crescent city????#me every time i read a guy refer to someone as a female: oh. immediate cringe factor lol#idk it's just both very clinical language and i have IMMEDIATE associations with like. incel guys who talk that way about women#less bad associations with using 'male' i guess but the use of female to refer to women drives me bonkers#this has nothing to do with my original complaint but also where are all her queer characters lmao#youre telling me these fucks live for 500+ years and theyre still straight??? seems fake but okay#liveblogging life
