Hate to be starting off 2023 like this, but things have kind of been hectic in my personal life lately so I might need to take a step back from socials;; I'll still be active behind the scenes drafting stuff + doing private work but I won't be updating as freq as i'd like with new posts.

3rd year in Octavinelle and I made him only bc i wanted a whale shark merfolk oc. He’s a big boi and a little pookie. I’m not sure if I ever posted his UM but he does have one according to my drafts, it’s just nameless bc I couldn’t think of a name yet.

3rd year of my WIP fandorm Qilin, was the former dorm head until Yanque (2nd year, current dorm head) fought him for the position and won. He’s adopted and raised in a strict family so he’s actually pretty hard-working, he’s just also an arrogant lil shit (lol). I like to think of him as a bit of an honest guy

Calla Megrez

2nd year in Monarchia WNA (Az’s fanschool). I ended up developing her quite a bit in terms of trivia because it was really fun to do a “wild child” character. I also did a Black Clover AU for her because of it (the “wild child” aspect) since hierarchy and social class is a major theme in Black Clover, I thought it would be interesting to see how someone who’s generally rather removed from such social classes (due to being a bit of a societal outcast) would function.

1st year WIP in Kriegskald and based off of Icarus! She’s a child genius who got into WNA early (13) and is basically a lil shit www a very typical ore-sama type character who gets super defensive when criticised but if you praise her it’ll go straight to her head (lol). She just does whatever she wants so she’s always getting in trouble

Clair Moreau

Vice dorm head of Lyrania (my fanschool WOA) and based off of the violin princess from Music Land. He’s canonically shipped with Lula (dorm head and based off of the alto saxophone prince) and is gnc. He’s generally pretty reserved but also a bit of a violin/strings instrument freak (specifically the actual strings. He likes pressing on those). I think I named him after the Clair de Lune?

Calixto Fynderne

2nd year based off of Narcissus, originally for Key’s fanschool PSU but like idk what to do with him lol, he’s neighbours with Lauren (WNA girl based off of Echo) and was her first crush but didn’t work out. Since most of his parasocial fans are girls his age, he’s not very good with women. His favourite food is also not disclosed for related reasons. He’s an awkward kid who loves himself much more than others, but you just need a lot of patience and maybe a bit of masochism to get him to open up www

Cosmo Dorado

1st year for Lizz’s fanschool DIE and based off of the Grizzly Gulch in HK Disneyland. He’s a very happy-go-lucky (emphasis on lucky) kid and honestly I almost had Komaeda in mind while I was making him because his talent is luck (except he doesn’t have the luck cycle that Komaeda does, he’s more like Naegi, though I also based him off of Uno from Nanbaka and unintentionally Orias from Iruma). Another problematic kid that does whatever tf he wants, but he looks up to the dorm head :3c

Claude Avenant

Music teacher and residential manipulative hag of NRC based off of Maestro Forte. Formerly a bigshot in classical music but retired and currently teaching as a bit of a hobby. I think I gave him a cane because Maestro Forte as an organ is bolted to the wall, so a human twisted from him would probably have mobility issues? It probably would have made more sense to make him paralysed to some extent but Maestro Forte is basically part of the room he was in because of all the stuff that’s connected so like???? The only thing that moves is his face and keys???? I don’t know man

I think I had something I wanted to plan between her and Vargas due to their inspos but it’s been so long I forgor. Personally I’m not a writer, so I don’t know how you guys’ brains work but I love how you come up with interesting ideas stemming from the game’s original material, expanding, digging deeper into them. I look up at you all in wonder hehe

Ooooh, please tell me ALL about your WIP??

:DDDDDD Okay SO I hope this is at least slightly coherent

It takes place in your typical medieval fantasy world (which I have a map for somewhere), and magic is forbidden in the kingdom we start off in. I do have worldbuilding reasons as to why but that’s a long explanation and not strictly necessary and I already know this is going to be so long. BUT! The neighboring kingdom practices magic! DUN DUN DUNNNNN

And the main character (Lillian) lives in a small village/commune off of a reasonably sized town near the border, which means that sometimes travelers will come and tell stories of magic that don’t paint it as evil. So she still has a very child-like view of magic and spends all of her free time wandering in the woods daydreaming like the absolute nerd she is.

Okay here’s where the actual plot starts:

Lillian is having on-going fighting with her family because of their differing views on magic, so when she finds a boy (named Alastor)hiding in the woods who can do magic, she hides him out of rebellion.

He offers to teach HER to do magic (because anyone can) so, being an idealistic teenager, she accepts (no hate on her I would too). EXCEPT that he starts manipulating her and drawing her further and further away from her family! He tries to convince her to stage a coup with him to return magic to the kingdom and she’s trapped in this choice between him and her family. The obvious choice is her family, so why does she seem to keep choosing him?

From here I’m going to try and simplify the events a little in hopes that if I ever actually manage to publish this it won’t be completely spoiled (I’m on my third draft and it’s 78,000 words!) Also I should mention that his magic takes the form of ice and hers takes the form of fire, and you can form a bond with another person who does magic where you can speak inside each other’s heads for a while. But you can ONLY DO THAT if you tangle yourself magics together. They have to collide and combine.

She ends up moving to the capital city with Alastor and her younger sister Meg. Meg is angry and done with Lillian’s crap so they have a big falling-out and she leaves to go live with a family friend. That completely isolates Lillian with Alastor and his manipulation EXCEPT that she meets the youngest prince, Prince Emory, who loves to write and tell stories (and his sarcastic manservant Hector, who is actually one of a group of secret magic users in the castle who are trying to protect the royal family)

But if Emory finds out she can do magic then she’ll be executed.

I know this all sounds really cliche but I promise there’s a lot of other really interesting stuff going on. There are magical murders going on that Alastor is framing the royal family for and using that to gain a following of communists who he’s going to use in his uprising, and Meg joins them but then her friend gets murdered and she recognizes Alastor and then SHE almost gets murdered but she’s saved by Hector and he asks for her help in saving Lillian from Alastor and she has to confront her personal biases about magic and *deeep breath* a lot of other stuff

In the end Lillian confesses her magic to Emory and chooses him, and he’s cool with it. Cause he’s a cool guy. Then she goes back to confront Alastor and he’s NOT cool with it (though he does start throwing ice at her so idk maybe he is). She tries to fight back but remember how if their magics collide then they’re bonded for a bit? That happens. But Alastor presses his advantage and uses that in to take full control of her. Like, possesses her. Then, because she’s close to the prince, he makes her go try to murder him.

Meg found out about it along with the castle mages, so they’re letting things proceed as normal so they can use the royal family as bait and stop Lillian before she does anything. Meg thinks that’s unfair so she goes and tells Emory what’s going on, and the idiot RUNS T O W A R D S Lillian and almost dies because of it. The mages try to stop her without hurting her, but some of them are trying to save the prince with no regard to her safety so they’re fighting among themselves, and Emory is refusing to fight back.

Finally he manages to get through to her and she gets in control enough to tell him that Alastor is far enough inside her mind that if she were to die, he would die too. Emory is like, “absolutely not. next” but then the royal guards get there and see a girl with a knife attacking the prince so before anyone can stop them one of them stabs her!!

And Emory discovers his magic just in time to save her life but Alastor gets away

I have the plot planned out for two more books and I feel like this is such a bad representation of the plot but here you go!

Remember that one time I wrote a Tangled AU?

Context

During 2016, I submitted a few stories for Tagatha Ship Week. Not my best work, but some of my most known works nonetheless. Amongst those, I had a Tangled AU that was originally meant to be a one shot (which has been deleted because sweet lord that was bad), then turned into a draft for a multichapter story and then turned into this cursed WIP I completely forgot about, which you can find on both Ao3 and FF.net  under the name of ‘blinking in the starlight’.

Every once in a while someone comes across it, as it was the case with ‘if you’re not the bride’ and it would remind me of its existence. But unlike IYNTB, I have no interest in rewriting it or continuing this story. 

A few weeks ago I found the original draft for ‘blinking in the starlight’ in my dad’s old computer, so I thought I might do a post no one asked for (some people did, you guys are great, humoring me like that) on what the plot was supposed to be.

But after sitting with it I wasn’t fully satisfied (as usual, fml). So, like the clown that I am, I decided that since we are already here, might as well make it into an actual AU post, mind my language, I’m frustrated.

Blinking In The Starlight: Tangled AU

Okay, so I’m gonna presume that you read the WIP, so if you didn’t, maybe check that out first and then come back to this post. Or don’t, it’s not like it’s a very complex narrative anyway.

Many, many years before this story starts, there was a cruel sorcerer named Rafal.

He tormented the Endless Woods for centuries, extorting kingdoms and stuff, you know, very much a two-dimensional character whose motivations I definitely did not think through. Being evil I guess?

No one could defeat him, because he always somehow ended up knowing the traps were coming and was two steps ahead. No one knew how, so they just like, presumed it was because he was psychic or something.

Until one day, a young vain prince named Arthur of Camelot decides to order a hunt to the big blue falcons, to get their feathers as a present to the girl he was courting, one Lady Guinevere.

Would you believe those birds were Rafal’s spies? Now that everyone was hunting them, they could no longer listen in as easily.

So when Prince Arthur campaigns against Rafal’s evilness and challenges him to a duel in which he tricks the sorcerer and defeats him, stripping him of most his powers (and therefore his immortality), everyone was shook 

Don’t ask me how he did it, I honestly do not know

But instead of killing Rafal, Arthur agrees to spare his mortal life as long as he gives him a powerful love potion for Guinevere and never shows his face around Camelot ever again.

Rafal is pissed, but says sure why not, because he knew  Arthur would be crushed once the potion effects wore off and Guinevere left him anyway

So yeah, they became King and Queen, everyone thinks Rafal is dead, Camelot became known as the guardian kingdom of the Endless Woods alliance, yada yada.

Meanwhile, Rafal, now mortal and still pissed af, looks for a way to get his immortality back, because he is now old and tired all the time.He goes to one of his oldest allies and they tell him a rumor about a woman named Vanessa who found a way to stay young forever using a bird.

It takes a few years for him to track her down, but when he does, he tries to convince her to show him the bird. Vanessa is like that sounds like a you problem, so he threatens her and she tells him she ate it to save her life during her pregnancy (do not ask me how this works, why she couldn’t have healed herself like usual, I don’t know okay)

Rafal is pissed again, because Vanessa was still looking young, so either she lied or she was omitting something and decides you know what, screw you and murders everyone, trying to find the damned bird.

But then he hears soft singing from the closet. A little girl named Sophie, who apparently had inherited the bird’s ability to restore youth. 

First, he thinks of raising her as his daughter. But then, one day she’d try to leave him for a boy, so he decides to trick her into thinking he was that boy, so she’d never want to leave him.

He sells her this bullshit story about everything being a fairytale like the ones her books, makes himself look like a teenager and tells her he is now going to take care of her because they are true loves and whatnot

Using the money from his previous evilness (why am I like this), he builds a tower and gaslights the hell out of her telling her is was to keep the danger outside, when actually he was caging her in. Her guards are all mercenaries and her maids are kidnaped slaves so, hm, that’s nice

He keeps visiting her to restore his youth, but he needs the macguffin Arthur used to take away his immortality (I didn’t specify what it was in my draft, so let’s say its Excalibur, for the sake of storytelling) to restore his full greatness, so he starts a long-long-plan to overthrow Camelot once he gets him hands on the sword.

However, Sophie is a person of her own, even being manipulated and gaslighted. She wants to go outside and see the world. Obviously Rafal won’t let her, and even gives her a ring to summon him and stuff, so she won’t think about going anywhere out of his sight.

But she ends up doing it anyway because she’s Sophie

Now hold on a minute.

Back in Camelot, Arthur has already died, Guinevere ran off with Lancelot and Tedros is a brat, walking around with Excalibur (not knowing how powerful it actually is) playing glorified police officer for the royal guard as a way to prove he’ll be a good king someday.

Festival season is approaching and prince Teddy is on a man-hunt (woman-hunt?) for the thief that has been ambushing noble carriages.

They have some good banter, but the thief always manages to distract him and get away.

Guess who is the thief

It’s Agatha, leave me alone, I was 15 and loved cliches, shut up

Yes, I know I’m now almost 19 and still love cliches, moving on

Agatha is stealing money from the rich like a robin hood pro, because festival season is expensive and poor people need to eat okay

But prince-holier-than-thou keeps showing up so she decides to be petty and steal directly from him. Girl just wanted some gold, but ends up with Excalibur because Tedros is an idiot

So he chases her through the woods for days on end, hot on her trail, and Aric gets caught on the crossfire between them. Agatha presumes from his uniform that there is a castle near and decides to hide there.

Tagatha ends up in Sophie’s tower, and she hides Excalibur to bargain with them.

She strikes a deal with Tedros to show her the festival in exchange for Excalibur. 

Agatha is just f this shit im out, she didn’t want the sword in the first place and last thing she needs is going to Camelot with a pseudo-police-officer.

But then Tedros realizes he doesn't know how to go back to Camelot and Sophie makes him promise not to turn Agatha in. Agatha is still skeptical, so he promises to lift taxes for the lower classes and she agrees to be their unofficial guide back to Camelot.

Princes can't break promises, don’t ask

The three of them escape the tower. 

Shenanigans ensue.

There’s a scene of Agatha helping people in a tavern and Tedros is like???? she nice????

Sophie finding out that the old wizard from her story was the guy King Arthur supposedly killed and doubting Rafal’s lies.

There’s Tedros explaining his need to be just and abide by the laws all the time due to the pressure of his father’s rep after the three of them nearly die of hypothermia (?)

Sophie telling them about her talent.

Very wholesome really.

Meanwhile tho, Aric finally manages to alert Rafal that Sophie left, and Rafal summons his birds to look for her, figuring out that she had Excalibur (how? Idk)

When the trio reaches Camelot, it’s still a few days before the festival. Agatha says she is done and needs to be on her way, but Tedros (softly, may I add) asks her to stay, at least until the lantern scene/day/tradition/thingy

Their unspoken feelings are all over the place and Sophie decides to play matchmaker.

They stay in an inn (why did Tedros not sneak them into the castle, you ask? I don’t know, don’t ask) and Sophie makes the guy tell them there is only two rooms. She then makes up some balloney about wanting to be by herself, so Agatha and Tedros share a room.

Yeah, you know what I’m doing, don’t you: there’s only one bed.

Some other tropes for a very fluffy chapter equivalent of the score of Kingdom Dance, which is my favorite song in the Tangled Soundtrack, fight me, is such a good ‘falling in love montage’ song

But the fluff doesn’t last long, because the very night of the festival, just as you can almost hear Tagatha singing ‘and at last I see the light’, Rafal’s birds find Sophie and take off her ring by force.

Rafal crashes the festival, stealing Excalibur from Sophie and unleashing his coupe against Camelot, back to being immortal and super over-powered.

He throws Sophie back in her tower, and when she doesn't comply and asks him to stop we have a ‘I never loved you’ ‘you were always just a bird to me, a dumb bird’ moment and Sophie is just destroyed because aside from her new friends (whom she believed were dead) Rafal is all she has.

Back in Camelot, complete mayhem is being wrecked, bloodshed and stuff. Agatha manages to rescue Tedros before his execution and they figure out that they need to rescue Sophie and get Excalibur to kill Rafal for good.

“Insert part one of TLEA here”, bitch, I kid you not, that’s exactly what I wrote wtf even is this draft

Somehow it all leads into this big confrontation, in which Sophie strips Rafal of his immortality using the sword but can’t bring herself to kill him. So she asks Tedros to do it, so he can prove himself to his kingdom.

I do not know where Agatha is during this, but I’m pretty sure she’s like, fatally wounded or something

Rafal reveals to Tedros why Arthur spared his life the first time and offers him a potion to make Agatha return his (already mutual, you idiot) feelings. 

Tedros is like, nah, I’m gonna kill you, and Rafal is like are you sure she won’t just ride off and leave you like your mama?

And Tedros is just, honestly, man, I’m not, but I’m not gonna force her. Then some analogy about caging birds and Rafal is dead.

Yey, happy ending.

So Tedros and Agatha are left in this limbo, because she poor and she a criminal and he a prince. 

Tedros decides to have Agatha take the glory of killing Rafal to redeem her in the public eye, grants her a title, she makes Sophie her lady-in-waiting and they all live happily ever after the end.

What is your ‘writing ritual’? (do you make sure     you’ve made a cup of tea, sit in a particular spot, etc.)

I don’t have any particular ritual, I usually just try and seize the energy when I have it. Right now I am trying to sit at my actual desk to work, though, and during school if I had anything that I desperately needed to get done I took my ass to a coffee shop and told myself I wasn’t allowed to leave until it was done.

How much has writeblr helped you with your writing?

It helped me find a writing community that inspired me to get back to work after the depression had taken it away from me. I’m not as active on writeblr as maybe I could be, but the writing discord I found through it has been a lifeline.

If you could be one creature (real or mythical), what would you be?

A dragon. But like, one of the ones that can shapeshift. I also like being human.

Whyyyyyy idk in GW probably Hunter, he’s fun to write. Overall maybe Sterling, my enby necromancer in the anthology

Hunter’s mother. Like honestly, every time I write about her she gets worse.

Melodrama.

If you could travel anywhere in the universe, where would you go?

Several places in Europe, in no particular order.

1.     What’s the first story you remember writing?

A story about a cat and a mouse becoming friends.

2.     How has your taste in books changed since childhood?

I’ve tended a lot less towards high fantasy. I think it’s too much of an energy investment to try and understand the worldbuilding right now, whereas you can usually just jump into urban fantasy. I’ve also gotten a lot more interested in horror.

3.     Do you see any similarities to your favorite books in your work? If yes, what are they?

If I’m being real honest, most of my wips are direct rip-offs of stuff I’ve read/watched/listened to, at least in the first draft. I usually try and direct my obsessions into creative energy at some point, with differing amounts of success.

4.     What sort of music inspires you?

Stuff with strong beats/baseline and vaguely rebellious lyrics. So like, lots of Imagine Dragons and Fall Out Boy. But also trailer music like Epic Score and Two Steps from Hell

5.     Favorite book?

These are the most evil kinds of questions you guys.

I can’t think of any published books I’d call my absolute favorite, but I do have a handful of fanfics I read on at least an annual basis: War, Children, by Nonymos; To Be Vulnerable Is Needed Most of All, by perfect_plan; and Schroedinger’s Romance by lesbuchanan

6.     Favorite mythology (Greek, Norse, etc.)?

Probably Celtic? I’m really rusty on it though

7.     Dream vacation?

A long, long trip through Europe without having to worry about money

I don’t really eat when I write because its too much of a distraction :P

Just outside the beam of light was a circle of what looked like black paint, tiny sigils scratched into it, shimmering uncannily in the dark. Wisps of that grim light drifted from the sigils to the figures at their center, dancing around Mara’s hands, clutching at Hunter’s shirt. Anywhere they touched his skin, blood seeped from a new laceration, sluggish and dark and horrible. 

“Hunter,” she breathed. 

Then she heard him. 

“Run, Cady,” he croaked. “Tell my mom...she’s a bitch.”

Hm. If I do, I don’t consider them easter eggs, just references. Though I did have someone in my creative writing class ask if the sandwich my protagonist was eating was based on one served in one of the restaurants on campus (and he was right)

5.     Would you prefer your WIPs to be turned into a movie or tv series? (feel free to tell me about more than just 1)

Gutter Witch should just be a movie, and I’m leaning towards that for Witches as well. Fractal could go either way, though I’m leaning towards TV show. Children of the Light could go either way. CHAF3k will hopefully be a podcast at some point.

6.     If you could have a writing studio anywhere with anything in it, what would it be like and where would it be?

I like the nook I have, though I think I’d adjust the height of my desk chair and add a coffee maker and a closer bathroom so I don’t have to walk all the way across the apartment. Oh, and I’d get a massive whiteboard so I can go all conspiracy theory on my wips.

7.     What music do you listen to to get you in the zone? (the writing zone)

Trailer music! Epic Score and Two Steps from Hell. I can’t listen to music with lyrics while I try to make the words go.

8.     What’s your worldbuilding process?

Panic.

But actually, I think of the aesthetic I’m after and then try to make everything build off of that. Along the way I usually try to figure out what thing I’m consciously or unconsciously basing it off of so that I can make necessary changes.

“I wanted to talk to Madge.”

“Madge is dead,” Hunter said, confused. 

“I’m aware,” she said. “I asked Death to take me to her, but she said she couldn’t and suggested projection instead.”

Hunter turned from the stove with the most dumbfounded expression Cady had ever seen outside of cinema. “You asked Death,” he repeated.

Cady snorted. “Yeah. I asked Death.”

“The cosmic power, Death.”

“The cosmic power, Death. We’re good friends. She comes over for tea on occasion.”

Hunter stared at her, expression halfway between disbelief and suspicion. “You’re fucking with me.”

“I’m not fucking with you,” Cady said. “Death is the whole reason I came to this Coven. She sent me here when I was thirteen.”

Hunter sank back against the counter, looking almost faint. Whatever he’d been cooking began to sizzle alarmingly. “Death has been...in this apartment.”

Cady nodded.

1. When starting something new, how much do you know about the story before you start writing?

Nada. Thing is, when I write by scene. Like, I get really vivid scenes in my head that i just gotta write down. Some might connect to a story idea right away, others don’t. Usually it takes a few scenes being pieced together before I’m like ‘Hey, I might actually have something here.’

2. What draws you to your WIP(s)? Why did you choose to write that/those over anything else?

My problem is that I tend to skip around. Sometimes I start another little drabble or what might end up a wip, but I have to make myself focus. I have to say, what has the most potential right now? Otherwise I’d never get anything done lol.

3. Favorite writing spot? Why?

I hate writing in public, so my go to spots are my couch and my bed. Preferably with a blanket. 

4. Share your favorite line of what you’ve written so far!

I got a lot, do y’all have the time? () is the title

His father had scolded him earlier for wanting to go out, insisting that the stars were hidden behind the clouds during the storm.

Maybe they were afraid. Icarus thought. Afraid of the sky. The lighting, or what little he could see of it, flashed again. Maybe Zeus could bust open this place for us? If there was no ceiling, we could see the sky all the time. No more waiting. (Icarus) Context: they’re locked in a tower and have yet to fins a way out. 

Ariadne gasped. “You look beautiful.” Then she bit her lip. “But we can’t pass as sisters…”

Dionysus laughed, teeth bright against pink lips in a sly smile. “Oh, darling, who said we’re passing as sisters?” (Dionysus and Ariadne) Day on the town type of scene

“Between you and the fuckin’ devil, why does everyone gotta ask me the hard stuff?” (Eden) Basically the Devil likes to pop into this guys dreams and philosophize in this wip. 

"Hey," the thief shot up excitedly. "There's a car dealership. Let's go steal a car!" They pondered the idea and scrapped it immediately. "We don't know if they have cameras or not." The pizza guy reasoned. Then the woman came up with the perfect plan. "I've got it! We go in and ask to test drive. Then we take the car. They never say how long the test drives need to be." Five minutes later they found themselves face to face with a crying car salesman. "The janitors are gonna have to bust out the WET FLOOR signs when this guy gets done." SMACK. "Ow!" The thief rubbed his sore head. "It's true!" The car salesman sniffled. "Well at least he didn't use the gun this time," the woman muttered. (The Thief) A really old story I wrote about a guy that hijacks a woman’s car while she’s waiting in line for coffee. Things progress and they wind up stealing a pizza car (and taking the delivery guy with them) before deciding they need an upgrade. Its like a super convoluted plotline lol.

5. If you had to choose one OC to bring to life as an actual person, which one would it be and why?

Maybe this one guy buried in my archives? He doesn’t have a name, but he’s a mafia leader (a pretty swell guy actually) that actually wants to help people out. Like that’s his deal. He’s not a fan of dirty cops, mostly cause they hurt people he cares about, but he isn’t the type to go all Al Capone with a baseball bat like in the Untouchables. Idk. He’s not very developed yet, but he has an interesting life and personality

6. Are you looking to get published? If so, do you hope to make it a career?

I’d love to be honestly. And as a career, it sounds lovely now, but I don’t actually know much of what having that as a careers actually entails 

7. What’s something you would read but would never write (or the other way around)? Any reason?

I’m not a huge horror fan, but I’ve found a few scenes I’ve written while half asleep that are slightly horror like. its kinda funny/weird.

8. What’s something you are most proud of about your work so far?

Probably that I’ve gotten this far. I mean, I was stuck in a rut for a good long while, not sure I would ever finish and that I couldn’t do it. And here I am, back at it, typing and scribbling away. Now I’ve got a complete draft that is slowly turning more and more into a book!

9. Badly describe your WIP(s) in one sentence

Icarus: Bad decisions abound. 

Dionysus and Ariadne: Crying from fluffiness followed by crying from despair.

10. Why did you want to be a writer?

The hardest question of all to answer. I just like the idea of sharing stories, something created from nothing, with the world. (and yet I get super embarrassed having people i know irl read my work? How does that happen?)\

Short stories, novels, or poems?

For reading? Novels. I love absolutely delving into a world and completely immersing myself in it. In my experience, poems/short stories are like looking through a window: the more you look, the more you’ll probably see. Reading a novel, or an entire series, is more like walking through a door into another world, and that’s exactly what I want from a story. I want it to completely consume me.

With all of that being said, what’s the exact word count that draws the line between a short story and a novel? 10,000 words might be a short story, but is 25,000 still considered a short story? 100,000? 300,000? Where is the line drawn? Tbh, I’m 100% down with any long-ish story that draws me in.

As for writing… Imma keep it real with you chiefs, the shortest stories I’ve ever written are for D:BH. Pretty much every other fic of mine is 25+ pages, and a couple of the longer ones are closer to, or exceed, 180 pages. I haven’t finished those. They’re all drafts, so to speak, and the amount of editing needed makes me balk whenever I think about it, but they’re there. The stories that I’ve actually finished are all short-ish stories lol (at least in comparison to some of the other stuff I’ve written).

What genre do you prefer reading?

FANTASY!!!! We live in a non-fiction world that can be quite depressing at times. If I’m going to fling myself into a story, I want it to be magical. I want it to have something that this world doesn’t. I want magic and dragons and mystery and soulmates and forbidden love and all the crazy shit.

What genre do you prefer writing?

Fantasy/fiction.

Are you a planner or a write-as-I-go kind of person?

It depends on the story. Most times, I’ll write one scene and it develops into an entire plotline as I write it. Other times, like with Of Blood and Biocomponents for example, I’ll spend a lot of time planning everything out before I write it so I can work in a number of clues and Chekov’s guns’, etc.

What music do you listen to while writing?

When I really need to focus, I’ll listen to anything instrumental. That can range from soundtracks (e.g. from The Last of Us, LotR, Hans Zimmer’s stuff), to more individualized and upbeat songs (e.g. Lindsey Stirling, Peter Gundry, Max Richter, Hidden Citizens) to classical (e.g. Chopin, Wieniawski, Mozart), or even just ambiance rain sounds on youtube etc. Otherwise, when I need to get in the mood for a certain scene I have entire playlists dedicated to evoking a certain emotion (e.g angst -obviously-, sadness, love, adrenaline rushes).

Only around like… 16? (Excluding all of the half-formed ideas and prompts in my “Graveyard” folder, that is). Which is incredibly surprising to me? I thought it’d be way more. However, most of those WIPs are all… heartbreakingly long and only half-finished, so like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If someone were to make a cartoon out of you, what would your standard outfit be?

Lace-up combat boots, black jeans, and a random, probably blank, t-shirt.

Hi, I’m Jayde, an average human person who thinks obsessively writing and learning new stuff are fun activities. I look like Idc but I actually care too much; I’m a ride-or-die bitch. Intovert™ (I would much rather have a first conversation w/ someone be about the trolly problem or systems theory instead of the weather). Often low-key enraged by society.

Do you like incorporating people you actually know into your writing?

Aspects of them? Of course. Actually writing them into a story? Nope. I totally draw on my experiences with certain people to help me write. That’s a given with any writer. However, unless I’m writing a biography on them with a full Chicago-style bibliography then I leave real people the heck alone.

Are you kill-happy with characters?

Depends on the characters. I have killed off a couple, but my soul is fueled on angst and there’s only so much of that a single death can provide. Nah, it’s usually better if people are alive and just… injured or... problematic.

Coffee or tea while writing?

I’m usually most productive writing-wise at night, so it’s either decaffeinated green tea or hot chocolate for me (bc I do try to have some kind of sleep schedule even if I fail with that goal).

Slow or fast writer?

So, so slow.

Where/who/what do you find inspiration from?

Anything, really. Sometimes an idea will just pop into my head and I’ll have to write it. Other times, it’ll start with a feeling, a situation, or an experience that slowly morphs into a fic the more I think about it.

If you were put into a fantasy world, what would you be?

Idk what I would be, but I’d love to be literally anything/anyone with some kind of magic or special ability. Like, bruh, I’m already human, gimme something else. Gimme some of the good shit.

Most fave book cliche? Least fave book cliche?

(Well-written) LOVE TRIANGLES AND MUTUAL PINING!!!!

I’m so fuckn horny on main for a good love triangle. When they’re done badly, they’re atrocious. That’s a given. But when they’re done well??? Hot damn. Like the kind of love triangles in ACoTaR, the Shatter Me series, or even the Trylle series (which first got me into it all). The kind where problems develop naturally between the MC and the first love interest, where the MC has to work with the “bad guy” for some reason or other and it turns out he’s actually super fuckn dope (*cough* Rhysand *Cough*). The kind where the more MC learns about the people she’s/he’s/they’re around, the more their feelings start to shift based on that knowledge.

I do not mean the kind where the MC just can’t make up her/his/their mind bc omg Hot Person #1 is so hot and looks to be carved from marble, but omg Hot Person #2 is also so hot, looks to be carved from marble, and is also mysterious.

As for a cliché I hate (if the poorly written love triangle doesn’t count in and of itself), I seriously dislike the damsel-in-distress thing. Don’t get me wrong, that card can be very well played in some cases, but when it’s the only card in the whole damn deck for 200, 300, 400+ pages? Nah, brah. I’m out. I’m certainly not asking for BAMF MC every time, but like,,, at least give the MC a goddamn spine you absolute cowards.

Fave scenes to write?

Pining and angst, baby.

Most productive time of day for writing?

The ungodly hours between night and day, when the outside world falls quietly into slumber and one’s imagination runs wild in the dark.

Reason for writing?

I started writing because I had some ideas and realized that nobody could/would write them in the exact way I imagined them except for me? I’ve continued writing because it has almost become a coping mechanism to explore and organize my thoughts and feelings and daydreams in some kind of coherent way. Plus it’s fun.

I stalked your wip page a bit, are you going to continue writing Starlight during NaNo? :D Also 8, 9, 12 and 15 for the nanowrimo ask?

Yeah! Starlight is my NaNo project, bc I haven’t really made that super clear. I don’t know if that’s like cheating or whatever, bc I’ve been working on it for a while, but I definitely need at least 50k more. I’m actually doing NaNo mostly to get myself to finish Starlight faster. 

8. Any inspirations?

So I don’t think I’ve ever said this before, but Starlight has its roots in games I played with my siblings when we were little. And I don’t know how many people have heard of Great Wolf Lodge, but there’s this game called MagiQuest there (I think you can do it other places too idk) that’s basically like an interactive scavenger hunt around the building, right? And to play, you need to buy these wands that interact with all the props and stuff. So we somehow convinced our parents to buy them for us, and we totally had a blast with this stuff. (I think I was like 9 or 10?) But anyway we came home with these fancy wands, so naturally we had to make up a complicated game and universe for which they were suitable, right? And we each had our own character to play, because of course. 

My character was named Jinna, and she had illusion powers and could turn into a bird, because why not? And oh yeah she also had a wicked sword.

My older sister’s character was named Gwen, and she had plant/nature powers and could turn into an ocelot, and she was an archer.

And then my younger brother’s character was named Jathan, and he had fire powers and could turn into a fox. He also fought with a sword, because that was back in the day when he and I would play fencing all the time with our nerf swords. 

And then my younger sister’s character was named Ariana, and she could talk to animals and I think turned into a mouse or a squirrel, I can’t remember which. 

Anyway, I was already a weird daydreamer child who made up complicated stories, so naturally the “magic game” had to become a huge thing for me. Mostly I made up scenarios and weird universe rules and they went along with it sometimes. So. 

Gradually, it turned into less of a game and more of a wip thing for me, and I didn’t want to play it anymore bc my siblings were ruining their characters. ( an interesting note is that Jathan and Ariana were basically the same person as the respective sibling, but Jinna and Gwen were a lot like my older sister and I, but flipped. I’m taller and quiet, so my Jinna was shorter and more outgoing, and my sister is short and more outgoing, so her Gwen was tall and quiet. Probably just because we two were old enough to be self aware and thus have like. low self esteem? idk.)

And eventually, Gwen turned into Kirsta (ask me about the other inspirations behind Kirsta bc that is another pile of longs stories) and she also sprouted a brother, Kor, who mostly existed to round out the gender ratio. So I had a working story about Jinna, Kirsta, Kor, Jathan, and Ariana, who still had cool magic powers but lost the ability to turn into animals somewhere along the way. 

9. When did you come up with the idea?

So Starlight has gone through a lot of different “ideas,” but here’s the incomplete story:

When I was 12, my best friend emailed me (lol) and was like ‘hey we should write a book together! (At this point I was already like dead set on being a writer and she been knew) and I was like ‘Sounds great! what did you have in mind?”

Turns out like not much, so I rifled through my mental file of ideas I wasn’t that invested in, and came back with my old mirror portal fantasy idea and a few others, but she picked the mirror portal fantasy. 

So what we started writing was basically this:

A girl named Ali lives in modern NYC and figures out that she can walk through mirrors. The mirror realm connects all mirrors on earth, but it also connects all realms/universes in the multiverse (for some reason idk.) Turns out she’s from a different realm, and she has to go save her realm from the bad guys/creatures who are trying to take over all the realms. Yeah. 

Eli pretty much sprang to life fully formed into this version, and so did Saref. And this version is where the plot of finding Eli that basically exists pretty unchanged as the main throughline of Starlight right now.

By like chapter 2, we hit a roadblock called ‘this story has a strong throughline but literally nothing else to it’s name, and I was already getting bored, bc honestly I didn’t care about any of the characters except maybe Eli. (And actually, og Ali was p much the worst mc, bc she was super passive and literally never acted on her own or made any choices.) But my bff was still very into it, so basically one day I was like k we’re going to add/change some stuff, and basically superimposed my “magic game story” right on top of it. In retrospect, this actually worked out quite well, seeing as the “magic game story” had everything but any kind of throughline. So I basically renamed Jinna Ali, and all was fine and dandy. Eventually I phased out the portal fantasy aspect entirely, and Ali was no longer from the modern world. (And now the mirror concept belongs to its own urban fantasy wip bc I can’t get rid of any ideas) 

so around 2013, we actually had a pretty clear outline and a draft moving along, and the plot basically stayed the same until like 2017, (when I came back to Starlight and realized that the plot was, um, invented by 13 year olds.)

And then my 2017 plot conflicted with a lot of the worldbuilding/subplots, and it’s basically been major overhaul since then, but now it’s kind of stabilized (I hope)

12. Who’s your favorite character so far?

I’m super attached to a lot of them, but Alya, Kirsta, and Kor especially have a place in my heart. (I can never pick 1 favorite of anything lol)15. What’s your character’s favorite memory with another?

1. Your main character is designing their own Dream House. What does it look like?

Oh how fun! Lemme think …

Well, Lexia, I think, would like something by the beach. She’s not a city girl, despite what many might think (you know, always sneaking off with Adom to some far off place, adventure-seeking and all that). I think she’d want a nice porch, and lots of windows, too, so she can always be connected to the outside without always having to actually go outside. And, the more I think about it, her house would be filled with things that remind her of other people (Rembrant and Hera, her parents, Miles and Stephen, and lots of things from her travels) so from the outside I can imagine it might look something like a museum of maudlin. Kinda has that sadness that comes along with holding on and nostalgia. You just know she’s seen through a lot and doesn’t really want to let go of much.

This tenancy would probably annoy her boyfriend, Miles, a lot because I see him as something of a minimalist. He values simplicity and wouldn’t want anything super big. If he lived in the real world, he’d be enamored with the emphasis on simplicity you find in Eastern homes and culture. So, when Miles and Lexia inevitably share a home together, that will be something they’ll need to work out! I feel like Miles could help her let go of some of that baggage, though (”Collect moments, not things” style). I think Miles would have a killer garden though; that’s where his money goes.

Isva’s house would be full of art, I know that much, but I don’t know where exactly it would be or what it would look like from the outside. Like Lexia, she’s kind of a relic-keeper herself! (there’s a pun in there if you’ve read my draft, but you haven’t, so lmao) lots of stuff from her adventures and just … trinkets. Like an old witch’s house, really. Very bohemian and soft.

2. What is the weirdest thing that has ever inspired a WIP?

Honestly, my inspirations for most of WIPS have not been fairly weird. Most of the time I’m inspired by something I’ve seen or read, or my imagination going to places it wants to for fun’s sake, conjuring up things that light me on fire. So I can’t really think of anything that would be weird by anyone’s standards.

3. Which character in your current WIP is the most fun to write, and why?

So far, Lexia and Rembrant have been the funnest to write so far. The more I think about it, the less surprised I am by how interesting Rembrant is to me; I’m a sucker for serious dad characters. I love dad characters. Dads, guardians, you name it. Maybe because I never had a father myself, exploring those “Batman dad” types is always really interesting to me and they always unfold in a way that’s particularly fascinating for me.

Lexia is fun mainly because she’s the type of main character I’d love to read about. Really courageous and compassionate, really sexual (which is an aspect of female characters that’s always ignored or not touched upon in YA or New Adult fiction; it’s always the guys!) and she’s awfully funny to me, as well. Just a little gumdrop I wanna hold close lmao.

So far, in The Raven’s Wing, all the characters have been very fascinating (Honorable mentions to the twins, Miles and Stephen, who are also pretty fascinating!)

Not really theme songs but songs that suit the characters and their conflicts so shushh

Idk man, I just want to visit every place Europe has to offer me. I love Europe, but I really want to go to England, as it’s called to my heart for so long now. I’ve never liked living in the US and probably never really will if we keep going in tHIS DIRECTION

7. What is the absolute trashiest TV show that you’ve ever watched?

I’ve loved Maury ever since I was a little girl *insert laughing-crying emoji* Do not idolize me for you do not know my flaws.

8. Hollywood comes knocking, wanting to put your life story on the big screen. Who’s cast to play you? What about your nemesis/love interest?

I honestly don’t know who would/should play me, as no one really reminds me of myself? As long as it’s a black actress and they get my deep voice right lolol I don’t care.

And as for love interest… Someone older than me, like Hugh Laurie or Tom Hiddleston … Or Cillian Murphy. Also any actor who has ever played the Doctor is fine it’s all fine lmaooo.

As for a villain, idk it has to be someone who’s really good at evil like Isabelle Fuhrman or Sean Harris (and idk I think I’d just be smiling at them the whole time)

9. Favorite flower(s) and why?

I love me some roses because I am a starry-eyed maiden at heart. It’s just the classic romantic flower, and I’m a sucker for traditions and cheesy romantic cliches like that.

Lotus flowers are breathtaking, also lilies and if I ever have a daughter her name is gonna lily (or ivy — see what I’m doing here? Lol)

10. Is there a genre that you’d love to break into in the future?

Spy fiction!!!! I have a spy WIP but I have no idea what I’m doing and I’ve seen all the mission impossible movies is thAT ENOUGH

Who was your favourite classmate when you were 16? oh god...thank god this didn’t ask when i was 17 lmao...anyway my fav classmate was my then-BFF. there were also a couple of girls i really found interesting but i guess it wasn’t reciprocated so they always only hung out with a bigger group and being the shy person i am i couldn’t let myself try to be friends with them

How did you meet your best friend? we were in kindergarten together lol, but we didn’t talk (play??) much. then we were in different classes during elementary school but we got in the same class again in middle school and that’s where we became friends

Do you like going to museums? What is the art style you want to check out the most? okay i’m going to admit this here. i like museums, okay? but i’d rather see something like a natural history museum or something like that, honestly i’m a big science nerd and i don’t get as excited about art i guess. but i do go to art museums when visiting cities and i actually find them really interesting, but if i’m just in my town and there’s some temporary art exhibition i just don’t really care about going unless it’s something suuuuper famous :/// i feel like a lot of people will hate me for this buT LISTEN SCIENCE IS IMPORTANT GUYS

What feature or quality do you get complimented on the most? are we talking physically?? people like my hair and my nails I guess. If we’re talking personality-wise then idk, they tell me I’m good at listening (which I admit) and my bff told me he thinks I’m brave and I guess I understand why he said it but honestly I still don’t believe it

What is the most romantic place you have ever visited? I’m not sure because since watching YOI the only romantic place on earth for me is Barcelona and I haven’t been there yet lmao. The places I’ve been to aren’t exactly romantic so I don’t know

What would you define as ‘magical’? That thing that your mind does after 1 or 2am when it becomes more loose without needing drugs but it just gets high on lack of sleep and you’re suddenly really talkative and funny and you can have really deep conversations with people and your jokes are honestly on fucking point and you wish you were like that during the day

What is the most expensive item of clothing you have ever bought and was it worth it? I honestly don’t know oh my god. Probably the suit (pants + blazer) I bought a few years ago and that’s still good and whenever I have to be dressed in a “serious and elegant” way that’s what I go for. So yeah it was worth it.

 The piece of makeup that you always wear. i don’t always wear it but if i wanna put on a bit of something then it’s definitely gonna be mascara + lipstick (or colored lip balm) because I think they both make a ton of difference. Actually now in summer I almost always have colored lip balm from Lush because it’s too humid to be wearing mascara and I don’t feel like wearing a waterproof one lol

If you’re gonna be the author of your favorite series, what are you gonna change in it? well that would be a spoiler lmao but i guess i’d make someone who died in it live

Why? i did, a lot of things actually. i had an idea for a fic that i realized was going to do me more harm than good so i had to ditch the idea. there are things i know i could write but they’re too personal and still too raw so idk if i ever will write them. other WIPs are just there in my folder for no other reason that I either lost inspiration or that they’re honestly fucking hard to write and I still don’t have all the plot

2. Who are you and where did you come from?

You can call me Hay (pronounced HAI, or HI) 

You can also see the hey hay tag for more asks that I talk about myself as a person/writer/pervert

3. Can I request a fic/scenario?

Sure! I’m always taking requests that inspire me to crawl out of the dark hole of my writing block misery; drop some ideas in my ask box/messages, and let’s talk about it! Sometimes I open my ask box to take any requests, so be on the lookout!

4. Requesting/asking rules/guidelines?

Please refrain from sending me the same request over and over; either Tumblr eats the ask or I don’t reply for personal reasons (either I’ve answered it before, want to keep it to myself, or maybe it was rude idk) please do not be rude to either me, any authors here on Tumblr, or any followers/readers on this blog. Rudeness will not be tolerated :)

As long as you follow these guidelines, I will always try my best to answer your questions or requests!

I love reading your thoughts about any works that I’ve done, and love having my readers contribute and brainstorm things with me. Feel free to express yourself and don’t hide behind anon too much cause I love to get to know my followers.

5. Works in progress?

I upload previews here and there, and once the idea is somewhat drafted close enough to get a vibe for the fic, I’ll upload a header into my masterlist and mark it as coming soon. Otherwise, most wip’s will be listed in my wip page and the percentages indicate how far I am on each one. 

6. Bias?

ugh this question kills me lol as you can tell from my url, I love them all equally, but have a bit of favoritism for Jeon jungkook. But as you can tell by my masterlist....I have an affinity to MYG and KTH too.

I also stab talent so: Big Bang gd, dean, crush, black pink all of them lol, and much more

7. Status on writing?

If I am not updating a certain fic, not updating what you requested, or inactive for a while, please understand that I have a personal life that is busy and full of responsibilities and demanding work.

It’s easy that I lose inspiration for a fic/au/series, so if you feel inclined to, instead of phrasing your ask as “when are you gonna update ___?” it might help me as a writer, and you as a reader for you to instead approach it as a discussion! (Please do this with other authors too….) and ask us, “What would yoongi do if ____?” or “How does y/n feel about what happened to junggook in chapter 3?“

This attitude from the readers definitely encourages us to brainstorm new ideas, and to revisit the intentions that we had for starting fics.

Encouraging messages are also very welcome, for it perks up our day and our inspiration as a writer to see that our readers are enjoying our stuff! :)

8. What happened to Sutures and Stitches/[certain fic/drabble]?

Unfortunately if a certain fic is still unlisted on my masterlist, it’s because I’ve stopped writing for it. You can notify me about certain drabbles you’d like to be shown on my m.list and I’ll update accordingly, but otherwise, please don’t ask me or beg me to update any redacted stories.

I’ve probably just lost a lot of inspo/direction for those fics and have no desire to continue. In the case for sutures and stitches (which I get questions about the most often), I have definitely lost direction and inspiration for it and it drains me even more to force myself into writing and finishing the series. Please understand that it’s better for me to prioritize my relationship with my own writing than to complete stories that I have no more interest in.

For your reading enjoyment though, I have left them up and you can find them through the search bar. Future spin-offs and editing processes/reuploads will be considered but on my own time. Thanks!

9. Are you down to do collaborations?

Eh, maybe. In theory, I’d love to create more of a community here, but on the other hand....too much drama lol. And I really don’t do well with deadlines for my writing.
