Ik it’s been a while but here’s another buff chichi I drew. This was supposed to be like a funny shitpost (I was using one of those out of context images as a reference) but I got serious halfway through lmao, now it has a whole dialogue and extra shading n shi. I literally die everytime someone likes my old buff chichi post and anything dragonball related I’ve made bc I never expected the fandom to still be alive like this when I first started posting (also my aus are rly random and I never expected ppl to actually see and like them oop) and it gives me a good jumpscare when I come back to check my inbox lmao.

Anyways. Here’s Chichi being Stronk, who knows who said it but Chichi heard someone mention her age as if that would mean she would be weak and she took it as a little challenge and grabbed her boys as quickly as she could to put that statement to rest. Trust she’s got some muscles under there, you just can’t see them because these goobers are covering them.

I originally had some extra speech bubbles where she says “I bet I could even lift your father, Videl, and Pan at the same time too!” To which Gohan replies “Please Don’t! You’ll hurt yourself” because he’s the only one worried about her age and health lmao. Everybody else just egged her on. Maybe even Goku gets sad he wasn’t the one lifted instead but who knows. Goten’s line was also altered from “Gohan and Dad really weren’t kidding about you still working out.” But it sounded a bit like a jab at the two and her since it’s unlikely that’d be a thing he wouldn’t believe from either of them. She trained him, like cmon, out of all the people who’d stop training? idk what I was thinking with that line😅

Added trunks last second because it was funny thinking of Bulma struggling with doing the same but only with Trunks, and even funnier when I thought about Vegeta doing it bc he would be half embarrassed but he doesn’t like to lose. (Though it’d be too easy for him and would make no difference since he’s a super powered alien.) Also I thoroughly enjoyed drawing these three together, it was really hard since I’ve only ever drawn chichi out of all three.

Oh, yes, absolutely! 100% agreed on everything.

Like, yeah, Shi Mei 2.0 > Hua Binan 0.5 all the way because he did repent after all and did release Chu Wanning to try and do some damage control. It's too little too late, but he did try so I guess he gets a point there? Also, he was not the one who actually tried to follow through with outright raping Chu Wanning, so he gets another point for that. But like you said, the bar is extremely low. Will he eventually find peace and gain redemption after a lifetime of penance? IDK, possibly. Will he be a force of good going forward and have a positive influence on the people he meets? IDK, maybe.

Shi Mei is difficult because his thinking is so rotten and twisted, and he is so vengeful, but assuming he did see the error of his ways, he may try to change as a person. And I think it is highly likely that he will be going forward in the same way as Mo Ran, checking his more violent, selfish instincts with What would Chu Wanning do? He is off to a pretty dramatic start, literally cutting off pieces of his own flesh to heal others, so he is definitely taking his penance through sacrifice seriously. I would even say he is suicidal and that the death he has chosen is a slow one, intended to maximize his suffering for the benefit of the lowliest layers of society that he had previously looked down upon. One could look at this as peak selflessness, but it could also be peak selfishness? Like, is he doing this for his own benefit and hoping to salvage his soul if he suffers enough? Or does he no longer care about himself and is just there to give away all of his body and soul piece by piece to mitigate some of the evil in the world? I think that this is the key of whether or not he will eventually be redeemed. If it is the first, there will be no redemption, because his motives are ultimately selfish, but if it is the latter, then maybe? It is very interesting to me that the first people he chose to help were those kids from the start of the book who were skinned alive by the evil cultivators and forced to wear a bear skin. It is not even his own evil that he is trying to alleviate, but the evil of others, which is maybe an indication that he is on the right path, because he is choosing to mitigate all suffering, not just the stuff that is directly related to him.

But, yeah, while I can't see Chu Wanning ever forgiving him, he definitely will be wracked by guilt. I can also see Chu Wanning blaming himself more than he blames Shi Mei. While I do believe that Mo Ran may eventually get to a place where he can forgive himself, I don't think Chu Wanning ever will. There are so many layers to his guilt. Starting from what was acknowledged in the book, such as when he says that one of his disciples going off the deep end for him might have been a coincidence, but that two (out of three, LMAO) meant that the fault lay with him. He definitely feels like he failed both Mo Ran and Shi Mei and while he may understand that Shi Mei made his own choices and had deep-seated issues that predated him, he will always wonder if he could have done more, or if he should have done things differently, and not just in the sense of not saving Shi Mei from himself, but also in failing to protect Mo Ran from him.

Chu Wanning knew that there was something off about Shi Mei but he chose not to interrogate it further. He chose to take him in, trust him and take no precautions against him, which is what ultimately gave Shi Mei an opening to do what he did. I think if Chu Wanning had been his ultimate victim like Shi Mei had originally intended, it would have been easier for him to come to terms with, but Shi Mei planted the flower into Mo Ran, who was not only an innocent swept up in the collateral damage, but also Chu Wanning's favourite person. His lack of precaution not only doomed Mo Ran, but also everyone on Sisheng Peak. Not only can Chu Wanning not forgive Shi Mei for that, he can never forgive himself. In addition to not listening to his instincts and failing to protect his loved ones, he would also feel guilty that he did not do things differently with Shi Mei (even though there was nothing he could have done) to steer him away from this horrific path. Also, we have that whole ingrained cultural belief that the sins of the disciple fall onto the shoulders of the teacher because he failed to teach them properly. I don't see Chu Wanning ever shaking that responsibility.

In addition to all this, Chu Wanning's feelings towards Shi Mei were complicated and he was already full of self-loathing because of this long before all the revelations. He must have loved Shi Mei dearly because he literally raised him from childhood. Mo Ran came to him when he was fifteen, but Shi Mei was there much earlier. He was very much a child when Chu Wanning took him in. There is no chance that Chu Wanning didn't love him deeply, just like he loved Xue Meng. Maybe even more so, because Shi Mei was an orphan, marginalised and helpless (or so he thought). But then later, when he was older, he was so jealous of him because of Mo Ran. So, so, so jealous and he hated himself for that. I have to wonder how many red flags regarding Shi Mei's behaviour Chu Wanning forced himself to overlook because he thought he was prejudiced because of his jealousy. How many sleepless nights has he spent post-canon wondering if he would have been able to see things, and stop things, if he had been clear-headed about Shi Mei? It was his responsibility, after all, and he failed.

So, yes, while Shi Mei was definitely the primary culprit and it is insane to blame Chu Wanning for not doing more when he literally did everything in his power, including tearing his soul to pieces, I don't think Chu Wanning himself will ever let himself off the hook.

Every once in awhile I’m reminded that Shi Mei exist and that I hate him :) like dude had his reasons but 🤷🏻‍♀️ I simply do not care about him at all 🙅🏻‍♀️ he went way past the line of things that I’m willing to forgive with Mo Ran (Who is my favorite baby) and he doesn’t even accept that he’s responsible for all the bullshit that happened in the first world, and is like kind of blaming Mo Ran? And that enrages me so much :)

I mean, I have stanned plenty of villains in my day and yes, as a villain, Shi Mei is very well conceived, but I just don't like him, nor do I find him appealing as a character. While, yeah, his grand plan was horrific, I can get behind wanting to kill your oppressors so that your own people can live well, especially when massive trauma twists any ethics and morals you might have. But I find him so slimy as a person. CWN did everything right by him and Shi Mei supposedly "loved" him, yet his plan to repay him was to rape and mind control him and turn him into a weapon of mass destruction. He directly led to the deaths of XZY and Madam Wang, who also did right by him. What he did end up doing to Mo Ran is so horrific. I love that Mo Ran ended up being one of his own, to drive home the point of just how wrong he was extra hard. I wish Hua Binan had known and I hate that he got to die still feeling self-righteous about his actions. The special cherry on top of it all was his "but it was TXJ who killed them, why are you angry with meeee???" 🙄🙄 At least Shi Mei 2.0 gets to suffer with the full knowledge of what they did for the both of them. And, yeah, I know many people see Shi Mei 2.0 as the less evil and less responsible one (I don't, but that is beside the point), but even so, if he is to find repentance, he must know the full magnitude of what he has done and suffer under its weight.

One thing I love about 2ha is that repentance does not automatically mean forgiveness or absolution. A great example for this is Huaizui. Yeah, he repented, yeah, he tried to make amends, and yeah, in the end he even started to make amends selflessly. But he never got absolution either from Chu Xun or Chu Wanning and his soul was still doomed at the end of it.

I very much believe that victims have the right not to forgive the people who abused them and furthermore, that the expectation of it shouldn't be there to begin with. I don't think either Mo Ran or CWN will forgive Shi Mei simply because he hurt not only them, but the people they loved the most in the most horrific ways. Will he be able to repent and find peace on his own? Maybe, but I honestly don't care care what happens to Shi Mei in the end. If he is able to repent and save his soul? Good. If he is not? That is also good.

Lmao it’s fine I understand, no offense taking. I saw what Diluc says about Kaeya and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s lying about his eyepatch. Kaeya’s purposely mysterious and doesn’t reveal anything about himself without throwing a couple (or all) lies, probably stemming from the abandonment issues given from his ain’t shit father. In Kaeya’s story quest he told an obvious lie that [spoilers under the cut]

...his eyepatch was “hereditary” proving that him and his pirate grandfather are related. Even now I’m still not sure if his grandfather was really a pirate since the treasure didn’t even exist. Also, Dainsleif wears an eyepatch too, on the same exact eye. Maybe it’s a Khaenri’ah thing? Or all men in Khaenri’ah wear it? We have no women from there in Genshin so we can’t tell if wearing eyepatches over there is a gender-specific thing, Khaenri’ah culture thing, or something’s just wrong with both of their eyes. But it definitely can’t be a coincidence, and there’s definitely more to Kaeya that we can’t see until we finally reach Khaenri’ah in the story (PAIN)

so you have to embrace that the male lead/chengyin is an absolute piece of shit. like he’s terrible. and he’s compelling. but he makes so many bad choices in pursuit of power / the throne of the li empire. so so many. now, he loves xiaofeng and it’s legit, but that ultimately brings more pain to her than if he didn’t.

Fucked Up Shit Chengyin Does: A Love (?) Story

-within the first 10 episodes, he + his soldiers have almost completely wiped out xiaofeng’s family + the danchi as a whole. her cousins die. her friends die. tangentially, her mother dies and her father goes insane. chengyin even beheads her beloved grandfather in front of her (he didn’t know she was there. but lmao. still.)

-did i mention that was on their wedding day? it was on their wedding day. said grandfather even gave her away. he went ahead with marrying xiaofeng even though he had no intention of abandoning his mission and thought idk love would fix it? chengyin what what what are you doing

-it’s unclear whether or not chengyin was going to tell her he was the double agent/the reason the li empire was able to wipe out the danchi, but there’s this like Significant pause between when xiaofeng wakes up from traumatically fainting after the danchi are defeated to her recognizing the li empire armor in his quarters where he doesn’t say anything and it is Sketch. definitely the implication that if he could he would hide his role in the defeat of the danchi from her and just Carry On as a Happily Married Couple

-she’s rightfully horrified by him when she makes the connection between him and the armor in his tent and tries to stab him, so he stabs himself harder which isnt awful but just fucked up like this is not a good relationship

-when gu jian (xiaofeng’s teacher/first love) comes to take her out of the li military camp, chengyin stops him and demands that he lets xiaofeng go because, quote, “They’re not over yet.” bro you just massacred damn near her entire family i think that’s a dealbreaker (to his credit he does let her leave but lmao it’s v clear he didn’t want to)

-there’s a semi-time skip and Plot Related Amnesia, so he and xiaofeng don’t remember their traumatic history, and both end up in the li empire b/c of xiaofeng’s marriage contract to one of their princes. one would think without the danchi backstory maybe they could have a better time. they don’t.

-chengyin falls for xiaofeng again, but he knows the politics of court are Fucked Up and if he shows he cares about her they’ll target her. so he makes a girl who’s been in love with him since childhood (se se) his concubine and fake!dotes on her to have all the political schemes fall on her instead of xiaofeng. basically, he exploits the poor girl’s feelings to make her a meat shield. i think he calls her expendable at one point. on the flip side of things, he treats xiaofeng like absolute shit sometimes in order to protect her. which works, but gd what an asshole

-although their memories are gone, chengyin knows basic things about the events in western liang that others in the palace have told him: that he defeated the danchi and killed xiaofeng’s grandfather are among them. he doesn’t tell xiaofeng this, even when they’re officially engaged. she finds out on her own right before the wedding and confronts him. he’s essentially like Look I Didn’t Want You To Know and when that doesn’t do well he’s like Think of The Country and also I Love You and gets general pei to later take her to the memorial he built for her grandfather, complete with his armor set. which is kind of sweet but also kind of imperialist museum? and also he was the one that killed him??

-super jealous. when there’s rumors that general pei and xiaofeng are having an affair (they’re not), he maneuvers to publicly strong-arm pei into a marriage with his sister (aka an imperial princess aka a marriage he can’t turn down). it turned out alright, but the Motives were definitely not alright--emphasized by the stone cold stare down he gives xiaofeng after the announcement (she’s oblivious to it, because she’s not in love with pei, but chengyin doesn’t know that). part of it is a political maneuver, but it’s also p clear that it’s personal

-a doozy. so gu jian, chengyin’s cousin and accomplice in the Take Down the Danchi Fuckery, is in love with xiaofeng. he was also xiaofeng’s first love, but she doesn’t remember him because #amnesia.  throughout the second half of the show, gu jian’s been working as sort of a guardian for xiaofeng as she lives in the palace and trying to make amends for his part in the danchi massacre/trying to assuage his guilty conscience. at one point, he decides enough’s enough and he kidnaps xiaofeng in order to get her free from the palace. during this time, chengyin’s absolutely losing his shit because his beloved wife is gone and he knows gu jian’s the one that took her / has his suspicions about gu jian’s feelings for her.

while gu jian and xiaofeng are on the run, xiaofeng starts to get bits and pieces of her memory back--all of them surround a man named “xiaowu” aka chengyin’s alter-ego when they were together in west liang. because he’s a shit, gu jian says he’s xiaowu, and as a result xiaofeng believes he’s the one she used to be in love with. Complicated. even more complicated when, fleeing chengyin and palace soldiers, xiaofeng hits her head and COMPLETELY remembers everything.

needless to say, she doesn’t want to be around chengyin anymore. it’s super sad and fucked up, because while xiaofeng remembers everything, chengyin doesn’t. so here’s what chengyin knows:

-his wife was open and warm and they were in love even if he couldn’t always show it because #Intrigue

-wife gets kidnapped by his cousin, who he suspects is in love with her

-wife comes back from kidnapping, hating him and saying the only person she ever cared for was xiaowu -- which is NOT HIM

-his cousin claimed to be xiaowu

when gu jian tries to rescue xiaofeng again, he’s surrounded by palace guards and chengyin goes totally unhinged. he forces xiaofeng to watch as he orders his men to shoot the shit out of gu jian. she tries to look away but he won’t let her. he doesnt even care that a’du, xiaofeng’s best friend and the only one she really has left, is at risk of being shot as well. gu jian dies, and while xiaofeng knows he’s not xiaowu she remembers that they grew up together/at one point he was her beloved teacher and she’s devastated. she tries to starve herself but chengyin threatens to take a’du away forever if she does. it’s fucked up.

-xiaofeng tries to escape multiple times, and he won’t let her/re-captures her. it’s just. sad. really sad, esp since she can’t forgive him for what he did to her family

-after all this shit, west liang decides to rebel and chengyin decides to crush them. because killing one side of xiaofeng’s family tree wasn’t enough, apparently

-xiaofeng rides out to the middle of the battlefield--on one side is west liang, under control of her brother. on the other is li empire, under control of her husband. she threatens to kill herself unless chengyin meets two of her conditions: 1) that he’ll leave west liang the fuck alone for as long as he lives--chengyin agrees, and it’s clear he would say yes to anything she asks because he is freaking out. he even says that if she dies he’ll kill himself, too. which leads to wish 2) he has to live well

which feels like a mixture of selfless love and a little bit of a fuck you? she knows that making him survive after she dies is probably going to be what hurts him the most, but he swore to it. then she slits her own throat while he watches, and he runs by her side and is trying to keep her alive (which is fruitless). and then he’s shoved away from her by her brother, who takes her corpse back to west liang. chengyin grows old, and it’s clear the only thing he’s got is his empire and it’s a lonely fucking life. at some point, he abdicates to his nephew (implying he never had his own family) and goes back into the desert to “find xiaofeng” because he’s in denial that she’s dead and the vibe is that he’s definitely going to die alone out there

i know some people ship shiwang just because of the novel, but honestly, most of us never expected shiwang to be such an obvious thing in the cdrama before it aired. but the cast and crew proved us wrong, and gave us such an epic paring that is loved by many, and is shipped by even the cishet guys lol. anyways, i'm super glad you are reading the trilogy, and i hope you'll enjoy the cdrama as well.

Why I’m currently having fairies and witches flying around in my head

So last week was really rough for me. I had multiple health issues and it was pure hell. In addition it was the last week of uni before the start of finals and I had to write multiple assignments so that was fun as well. Anyway, I happened upon an episode of Winx while I was watching TV (instead of working because why get shit done when you can procrastinate instead) and now here I am, writing a post about my takes on the episodes I rewatched (which would be season 2, 3 and a bit of season 6). Under a cut because I have a feeling this won’t be short:

- The Winx are boring

- The Trix are boring

- Griffin and Griselda are bae

- Valtor is legit

- Or so I thought at the beginning of the season but as the episodes progressed, I just couldn't help but think of him as a loser. I expected more.

- That can't stop me from shipping him with Griffin tho (what am I doing?). It's just that the way he talked about their past makes me think they were more than just partners in crime.

- I'm also shipping Griffin with Faragonda though. I mean she called her "Griffy". I can't. Also, they used convergence which means they're really close (as in friendship-close but hey, twisting canon is what fandom and shipping is about so...).

- I learned that Faragonda used to be a witch. *gasp* I did not know that. If anything, I would've thought Griselda used to be a witch ('cause she's cool like that).

- Also, on the topic of shipping, it turns out that both Faragonda and Griffin have dated Saladin... I... don't know how to react. I cannot unsee this. God, I need help!

- Btw have you looked at young Griffin? So much hair, so long, so purple! I'm in love. The outfit is also awesome!

- Also, I was very surprised when it turned out Valtor was created by the Ancestresses. I so did not remember this. It's so weird!

- "[Cloud Tower]'s defended by a spell that protects it from dark magic. Now that's a joke." This line is just immensely funny to me XD. I can't.

- Also, "I'm afraid that the protection spell only works on uninvited intruders". So Valtor is a vampire? LMAO

- I'm headcanoning so hard that Darcy is related to Griffin (and is probably her daughter (especially having in mind that her powers are focused around darkness itself; idk, it just seems so Griffin)).

- Idk but the Trix seem pathetic if I have to be honest. I used to like them more. Also, Icy's magic being an obvious opposite of Bloom's is really lame in my opinion.

- And like the whole contrast built between the witches and the fairies is ridiculous. The fairies all wear clothes in warm colors and have vibrant colored hair while the witches are always dressed in dull colors and have the darkest hair possible. It looks so... infantile. Especially having in mind that the witches aren't actually the enemy of the fairies. They have their skirmishes of course but that's just school rivalry. When it comes to the real dangers, fairies and witches always work together to defeat the common enemy. And that's why the concept of the witches falls flat because they're supposed to be drawing their powers from darkness and to be causing mayhem but they're not actually evil. It kind of defeats their purpose.

- With that said, I really loved it when the fairies were exchange students in Cloud Tower. It was just so funny.

- Griffin: "What despicable image are you using?" Musa: "Witches." Griffin: "Clever." LOL.

- I feel like Bloom's darkness that was showed in that scene remained unexplored tho.

- Season 2 overall felt kind of weak. I used to like Darkar more.

- Bloom is still plenty annoying. I never liked her. And I probably never will (just personal opinion).

- I loved Flora tho. She's so precious. If only she'd told Helia that she liked him sooner. They're my favorite ship. They're just so adorable (but jeez, slow down, Flora, you haven't even told him you like him yet, and you're already imagining your wedding (you see, this behavior is what I don't get and I can in no way relate with it)).

- Also, on the topic of ships, I wish Musa and Riven would just get their shit together and stop fighting. I like them as a couple gdi!

- So I liked the first half of season 3 but then it just became so annoying to me.

- Yup, just go confront Valtor! You just lost Tecna, now go get yourselves killed too. That's a splendid idea. At least they freed Griffin.

- What I don't get is how Tecna got her Enchantix. Faragonda said you had to sacrifice yourself for a person from your own planet but Tecna sacrificed herself to save Layla's planet. That was just contradictory.

- I love the worldbuilding in that show though. There are so many worlds and so many legends and that's awesome.

- The Legendarium was an interesting concept but, eh, I'm not a fan of season 6.

- Am I the only one who doesn't like season 6's art style?

- Helia looks so ugly wtf.

- Bloomix? Really? They really ran out of ideas about new powers and went there? Like, idk, on the one hand it’s sort of sweet but on the other, it’s just lame.

- Like, I know the Trix are powerful and everything but they defeated Griffin so easily. She was their teacher, for the love of everything sacred! Could’ve made her put up a bit more of a fight!

That’s about it for now. Wow, I needed to get this off of my chest. I may add more as I keep rewatching (I’ll probably finish season 6 and then rewatch season 1 too).
