this is gonna be messy
I definitely don't think I'm the only one who feels this way, but... idk maybe im just stubborn and refuse to simply move on.
but... does anyone else just not feel the same about kpop. like as a whole concept?
after the whole ta*il thing and the groupchat thing, seeing the scale of the pure misogyny in korean society, I simply cannot see any idol the same way. and I don't even think it's an extreme reaction. we literally had the bear vs man debate like 2 months ago. it may not be all men, but its almost ALWAYS men so u have to suspect them ALL until proven otherwise.
and the worst part is, the whole charm of kpop and idols was that they were meant to feel more real and be interactive with fans (parasocial relationship). they were meant to give us the illusion that we know them as real people and not fictional 2d characters. but turns out being real ppl also comes with being really shitty ppl sometimes too.
what's frustrating is that kpop was a very... low effort hobby (especially if u were like me, a casual content-consumer and not the type of stan that spends money on kpop or cares about streams and shit). the content is pretty consistent and all you really need is a semi stable internet connection. whereas tv shows and books take years to renew for a new season/new book. sports have seasons. etc. u get the point (hopefully). and i'd say the fandom experience in kpop is also better than like movies/books/tv shows bc 1) after a certain point all the content is fanmade and 2) there are way too many debates when the content is totally fictional.
so, yeah I'm mad that I physically and mentally cannot enjoy kpop anymore. I literally look at any of my ex-faves and I feel absolutely nothing. if anything i feel empty and sad. in the sense that I don't miss THEM; I miss the way they used to make me feel. I miss the joy. the serotonin I used to get just from seeing them smile or some shit. and it's gone.
HENCE, I definitely do think that I've changed and my perception of korean media and korean celebrities has changed so me feeling very different about Wonho since his release may not be entirely on him.
However...
I just cannot get over how different he looks. I was literally looking at his older photos ( and i don't mean like OLD OLD. like... 2022 old.) next to his new ones and my brain simply cannot comprehend that its the same person. one of them is the wonho I fell in love with, and the one is a guy that vaguely resembles wonho in a very pale and plasticy way.
I was talking to my friend about this last night and the conclusion we came to for the reason he looks so unsettling to us is that he looks... too young. Like we've all seen the joking posts abt how he's gotten younger but like... it's not a joke. he literally looks 17 in a very artificial way. I mentioned this before but he looks like he has a permenant Snow app filter on.
and It's so sad bc he was always so big on body positivity and slef-acceptance, but to go around and change his appearance so drastically? and like... yeah korea's weird beauty standards bla bla but why would he as a 31 year old man want to look 17? I swear even the way he poses and holds himself is different. the vibes are not the same. you'll see it if u put old and new pics side by side.
Idk I'm hoping I get used to this or feel this less strongly once we see him do music and mvs and just do content. like maybe if I see him acts the same way he used to it won't feel so jarring, but as of rn... I barely reccognize him anymore and i hate that feeling.
I have a whole ass rant about kpop with a focus on wonho but power is out and my laptop is on lifesupport (charger) full time now and i refuse to type a whole essay on my phone but im EXPLODINGGGGG

The Phineas and Ferb fandom is barely active, but I don’t care, I love this show and am currently rewatching it so I had to doodle something… here’s a random AU idea.
Animal!Au - Phineas, Ferb, and the gang, are all pets/animals while Perry, Pinky etc. are humans (Tho Monogram and Carl are all still human lol). Candace, Phineas and Ferb are Perry’s pets, Isabella is Pinky’s pet, while Buford and Baljeet just vibe.
Candace works as an OWCA agent, while Phineas and Ferb want to help but she doesn’t let ‘em cause she’s their big sis (technically) xD
Assigned animals:
Candace: Chameleon - cause yea, we saw Dinosaurs that looked like her, and she gives me reptilian vibes.
Phineas: Mouse
Ferb: Ferret - I just doodled the two quick and this is what I came up with xD
Isabella: Rabbit - I wanted an animal who’s ears can mimic her hair.
Buford: Toad - cause ofc he is lol
Baljeet: Pangolin - Idk I jut bound an animal that I felt could work for him.
Jeremy: Bearded Dragon - haha

What’s an unpopular ship that you actually really like?
I don’t think these are SUPER unpopular as ships, but because they’re from lesser-known anime (that don’t have very active fandoms at least), here are a few!
Daisuke Kanbe and Haru Kato from The Millionaire Detective: Balance Unlimited (top Kato, because Daisuke is my favorite and that means he’s going to bottom LOL)—this anime is one of my favorites and I rewatch it a lot, especially that one episode where Daisuke is just a little baby boy who gets drunk and doesn’t know how to be poor.
Also the show ships them too here’s proof:
Tumblr media
John Watson and Friday from The Empire of Corpses—absolutely devastating (and gorgeous) movie with an after credit that ruins everything, but gods will I watch it over and over for these two. There’s just something so erotic about a man bringing his best friend’s corpse back to life as a Frankenstein-esque monster and trying to make him human again. I’ve made a post about this one before when I’d first watched it (lmao I was traumatized), but I have a big weak spot for non-verbal characters, so Friday is my favorite. I wish there was an active fandom for this so I could see ship works for them! Also, one of my favorite animation styles of all time. Everyone looks so pretty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fushi and The Beholder from To Your Eternity—ehehehheheheheheh this one is a popular anime but not a popular shipper fandom. LET ME DREAM, THOUGH. I drew one work for it once, I’m qualified. (Also the non-verbal character strikes again [yes I was mad when he learned to speak like a normal person eventually])
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kaname Kuran and Zero Kiryu—NOT TALKING ABOUT THEM. DO NOT MAKE FUN OF ME‼️🫵
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gareki and Yogi from Karneval—I could ship Yogi with several men in this anime but that’s just because of Miyano Mamoru magic I’m sure…anyway if you haven’t seen this one ITS VERY GOOD. Idk if it got cancelled officially or what but I hope a second season comes anyway. Still worth it, regardless!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THATS IT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, CLEARLY I CAN NEVER GIVE JUST ONE EXAMPLE…HOPEFULLY YOULL FIND SOME NEW WATCHES FROM THIS LITTLE LIST!

So I'm rewatching House MD for. Some reason. Idk I just accept this is where my brain wanted to go I guess.
Anyway I'm in the ep where Vogler first shows up and I remember recently seeing that "Hate when the fandom makes awful stuff up that a morally grey character did. Like free my man he didn't do that. He did do a bunch of other stuff tho" post recently (I swear I'm going somewhere)
So Cuddy and House have that convo about Medical Ethics. And Cuddy is completely right House violates those all the time. However, House's specific criticism was "we're pressuring patients into choices that are bad for them, good for us. We're gonna compromise patient care". Now you can argue about whether what House is doing is "good patient care" (y'know, being a dick to them, ignoring what they want, that stuff), but it is aimed at saving their lives and not at making money, so, that's absolutely not "Taking House's game and going Pro". That is, in fact, doing almost the opposite ("Making patients agree to treatments that will not help them" vs "Forcing treatment on patients that will make them better").
All of which is to say, I'm not active in the fandom, but I'd still wanna tag House in the above mentioned post but with "his boss and coworkers" instead of "the fandom" asdgasjkdh

So here's a question for the group that is you and your followers. I recently started rewatching a show that I loved a while back and I remember very strongly now that I'm back into it that I enjoyed it so much and had plenty of ideas for fic for it but for whatever reason I never did. I couldn't tell you why now except maybe I didn't have time and I got distracted/invested in something else.
Does that happen to any one else? Where you really WANTED to participate or contribute to a fandom but for some reason the stars didn't align or whatever. I have plenty of things I enjoy but wasn't inspired to create for and I have plenty where I took a look at the fandom and went NO. But like. . .this fandom seems lovely and I had plans but it never quite worked out. Idk why it feels different than any other fandom where I'm like "I have ideas and I will get to it". Except now I feel like I missed my opportunity. (They are still very active and the series is still on going so logistically there's no reason why I couldn't?)
It's probably my brain being weird and for some reason now I have fomo. But I wondered if this is common or just a me thing. 😄
--
This is me in the majority of things where I've wanted to write fic—even the majority where I have written fic. My plotbunnies tend to all be for novel-length ideas, and I either write a prologue-y bit or nothing. I just don't have time or energy to write free novels.

It feels so validating to see other people having the same frustrations that I have. One of my current pet peeves these days is whenever someone says that Izzy was the heart of this season, that he was the best part of it, or that he carried the season on his back. Not on my watch! It makes me want to throw my phone out the window. To each their own obviously, but respectfully, they are wrong and yes, I should say it.
Now, I read you said you struggle with the idea of rewatching the season? I loved it personally, even if I still do have grievances with some parts of it (most of which you mentioned before). If you feel up to it, maybe rewatch it with a friend? That’s what I did and honestly it was freeing because my friend was not overthinking everything and was just chilling. For the most part, he really liked it (I should’ve filmed his reaction to Ed and Stede’s first kiss because the gasp he gasped was gasping), but he had to get used to the pacing and numerous characters at first because he felt there was either a lot happening or it was slow. Once he was used to it, he really vibed with the show. He was also really surprised to hear about the wild takes and that people were this mad about Izzy’s death.
So yeah, social media and engaging with the fandom is fun, but it can taint things you love, so it’s cool when you have people detached from it that you can talk to. I know I have to actively avoid paying too much attention to all the Izzy posts because they are really driving me up the wall. He already took too much space in the season and now he takes too much space in fandom discourse. It’s actually impressive how much attention he gets. I’d rather gush about the great moments between the other characters and hopefully, once the canyon have it all out of their system we can move on from Izzy and let him RIP.
'izzy embodied the spirit of the ship. he held the crew together' 'izzy should've been captain at the end?' 'con is just a significantly better actor than everyone else' 'izzy's scenes were the only good ones' 's3 can't be good without con' 'idk why they'd kill izzy off. he's played by the only good actor?' shut up shut up shut up shut uppppppp killing maiming biting shut up
anyway. now that's out the way. i'm actually really excited to rewatch! i just am constantly on the verge of being overstimulated by the Hyperfixation lmao so a proper rewatch would tip me over the edge rn. i think i'm gonna take some time off work over christmas and rewatch then 🥰
and yes never underestimate fandom's ability to elevate a mediocre white male side character to fanon protagonist status. tale as old as time

I think @kennyomegasweave tagged me in this OTP meme like...months ago? And I just found it half-finished in my drafts and decided to actually get it done.
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore? 20s, not my teens, but I used to be utterly obsessed with Jack/Kent from Check Please and now, IDEK what happened. I still love them, but I have old fic I saved and never read and can't bring myself to care anymore. IDK it makes me sad.
2. Which ship would you consider your first one? Hmm probably Betsy/Joe from the Betsy Tacy series or Anne/Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables? My first ships when I actually got into fandom were Sawyer/Kate and Sara/Grissom from CSI.
3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple? Magnus/Alec!!! I never thought I would write fic and then I watched season 1 of Shadowhunters and banged out (lol) 7 fics and almost 30k of porn in less than 2 months in 2016. They all have an insane number of hits (like. the highest has 54,878 hits and the lowest has 15,836 hits.........) and I still get kudos on them almost every day, it's wild.
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over? Genuinely no idea, but the first one in my fan art tag is Katniss/Peeta from 2012 <3
5. Did you ever get into ship discourse? My first instinct whenever I see someone talk about something I don't like is to mute/block, so perhaps not actively, but I'm sure I have at some point.
6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently? LOL. Yes. I still fucking HATE Jack/Kate from Lost and always will. Also Dan/Blair from Gossip Girl. Lately...I'm such a multi-shipper but I gotta say Kate/Anthony from Bridgerton bc I've genuinely had to restrain myself from bitching about how much I hate them SO many times since s3 came out lol.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read? I finished a rewatch of Beyond Evil last night so I've been rereading some of my old bookmarks bc I've read almost everything that's out there 😔. Shout out to the masterpiece simple & clean by whir.
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs? So many!!! Taemin/Kai is still my #1, but also Juwon/Dongsik from Beyond Evil, PatPran from Bad Buddy (it took me several episodes to actually get into the show but once I did I cried...so much over them and how much they love each other LOL), KunTen from WayV, Louis/Lestat...I feel kinda bad that I don't have a major current f/f OTP but I'm literally checking my kpop tags multiple times a week for rule 63 fic and most of my current WIPs are rule 63 f/f so there's that. (Two KunTen including what hopefully is gonna be a long one, plus a Jigyu I started yesterday for a fest that I'm hoping I'll be able to get done - not because of the length, but because I've never written Seventeen before)
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together? So many??? I feel like I have to say Dean/Cas.......Lee/Kara never really got together so them for sure. Sawyer/Kate from Lost even though I 100% choose to believe they got together post-canon pre-flash-sideways. Oh my god I'm looking through my "forever bitter" tag and it's a lot of Cooper/Audrey from Twin Peaks as I expected, but I forgot about Mini/Franky from Skins. and ABSOLUTELY THEM. Everything about series 5 was terrible but that especially.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting? IDK I feel like I don't usually change my mind like that. I wouldn't go as far as saying "kind of interesting" but I guess I don't hate Bree/Roger from Outlander AS much on the show as I did in the books lol.
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over? Hmm...Cesare/Lucrezia maybe? If not them almost definitely Norma/Dylan from Bates Motel LOL.
12. What was your favorite crack ship? I was gonna say I couldn't remember any that truly fit this definition, but then I remembered the Kent Parson/Claude Giroux series #dirtbags and that was great. Actually no my real answer is Syd/Richie from The Bear. Now *I* don't think it's a crackship but they have that vibe.
13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of? Here's a side by side view of my most bookmarked ships vs the tags I have saved rn on my front page. Unfortunately you can only have 20 but I think it's a pretty good representation. (Other than the ENHA ship, where I legit don't know anything about them or frankly even what they look like, but that tag produces so much incredible unhinged porn that I read canon-blind.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
14. What most of your ships usually have in common? I feel like I have several different ~types, but: friends to lovers, I LOVE bicker-y couples, age gap relationships, especially when one of them is a mentor-ish figure, and power dynamics in general.
15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship? Nice Guy characters, whether they're a guy or a girl. The OG example is Xander (duh) and Chloe from Smallville but you also see it with characters like Sol on My Stand In...there's def more things I hate but that's one of most major ones for me.

What I've been up too lately..
So, as you may have know that I haven't exactly been active on this platform recently.. that's because I've kinda lost interest in smg4 a little. And I started checking out a series made by Thomas Sanders called the 'Sanders sides' and I've been invested in that series for a while now.
And the reason why I've lost a little bit of interest in smg4 is because it fustraits me a bit. Like how they treat a lot of their main characters, how some events that happened in the past just became nothing as soon as the arc was finished. And I can't forget that the show's just milking Mr Puzzles. I mean think about it, people started to see or check out smg4 because of Mr Puzzles! ofc not all fans but because of how popular Puzzles is the creator is just making him the new mascot of the smg4 channel as a whole.
Puzzles now that I think about it, I don't know that much about his character all that much.. Is he a cold blooded villain who has a deeper modivation?? No, Is he a former villain like smg3 and a character who goes through a path to redemption like Zuko from the last avatar? No, he's a character who has a colorful personality and a character who has now became the new mascot for the entire channel as a whole! And also a 90s cartoon villain that a lot of fans simp for.
I'm just upset that there were so many ways of making him more interesting but the creator's just made him a twink who hyped up a lot of people for the PV arc but then disappointed a lot of fans, not me cause I watched the PV movie before everything else. It also makes me kinda sad that that's all he'll be, a mascot for new fans and a character who we know so little about.. the only thing I can relate to about him is how he used to watch TV to escape reality like a lot of us used and still might do as we get older. But other than that I really can't help myself to like the guy like I used too.
That doesn't mean I'll quit the fandom! just lost a few hopes for the show. Maybe because I didn't rewatch the show/arcs so I'll rewatch them after summer break who knows! But I kinda wanna try something new so expect to see more of some Sanders sides gl2 stuff coming along! But yeah, again sorry for not posting as much and ranting again. This was kind of a rant(?) kinda?? idk! just wanted to get this off my chest so glad I did. Anyhow hope you at least know what to expect and I'll post some Sanders Sides reviews gl2 designs or another rant! Hope you enjoyed this one.

Why do you people even watch ATLA if makes so many of you miserable?
WHEN did I ever say it makes me miserable lmao
So. First of all? I literally first watched/got to know this show as a kid alongside my little brother, tuning in to random episodes rather than watching it all in order on my own. I always respected it and thought it was cool, but it took me a bit to watch it all properly, and by that time I already watched the finale, had the inkling it was dumb, and when I watched everything that feeling was only strengthed
Like? Idk who you are but your question seems to imply you're a new fan coming in from the 2020 ATLA renaissance, and it's important to remember that's super not the case for a lot people. I grew up with the show! I keep rewatching it every couple of years! Not because I hate it and I want to get mad, but because I do genuinely love like, 90% of it- and most of the stuff I hate about it, and a lot of my anger towards it was born MUCH later than my first watchthrough. When you watch something you enjoy a whole bunch of times and get familiar with it, of course you're also gonna become aware of its flaws! And, as much as I hate having to say it, Aang as a character IS the show's biggest flaw- he doesn't carry his weight as the show's protagonist, and kid me could sense it, while adult me can now look at him and say WHY.
ATLA fan culture is a bit problematic in the sense that it's been put on such a high pedestal that it can seem weird when people criticize it, but like? There are parts of it that are DESERVING of criticism, heck, pretty much all of the people who worked on it who've spoken about it in the years since would agree that there are some stuff that either didn't age well or weren't well made in the first place, like- being critical of something or hating some aspects of it doesn't mean you hate the whole thing!!!
Fr if I didn't enjoy ATLA at all I wouldn't ever bother rewatching it, or engaging with the fandom, or consuming fan content... But I obviously do, given that I'm here speaking about it YEARS after I first saw it, because it resonated with me, and I love it! Even if I'm still mad as fuck about a lot of stuff that happened in the franchise over the years (and the finale, the can't be stressed enough), that doesn't detract from the fact that there are still more stuff about it that I love than I don't... Even if I tend to talk about the bad stuff because they make me ranty and I have to release all my thoughts somewhere else I'd explode lol. Btw, before I started being more active on Tumblr I'd just bombard my best friend with my thoughts on shit they'd never seen/played/experience so. Tumblr is genuinely just a good place for this because sometimes people see my thoughts and agree, sometimes they don't and it's all chill honestly
Watching ATLA for the most part makes me really happy, actually! But there are a selection of episodes that make me mad, and like? If you're not up to seeing less stellar reviews of the show, THERE'S A REASON I TAG EVERYTHING!! You can just block "anti___" tags, I respect that not everyone agrees with my takes on the show, and I specifically take care that they won't have to see them if they don't want to, so, really... Unless you ACTUALLY wanna have a discussion about my issues with the show, wouldn't it have been so much easier to just block either me or the tags and move on rather than question my enjoyment of something I dearly love for like, no reason whatsoever? Oh well whatever this was kinda a funny ask to get, thanks for the laugh lol "you people" cracked me up

Fic Writer 20 Questions
I've been tidying out my likes and remembered @elwenyere's open invitation tags on this, too, so here we go!
sshysmm's works on ao3 (user name is a ref to my old tumblr)
1) How many works do you have on ao3
128 (and I think I'm missing some of the band AU stuff I never moved over from the blog @theartistknownaslymond…)
2) What's your ao3 word count?
1,038,645 words. haha. what the fuck.
3) What fandoms do you write for?
Actively, right now: Star Wars (particularly Andor; previously Rogue One and a few spin-off novels), the Lymond Chronicles, and I do very much intend to return to my fics for And Then We Danced.
I have also written for Ripper Street, The Terror, The Musketeers (don't look! don't look! it's my 'now can i remember how to write fic after over a decade out of fandom fic) and Utopia (another one it would be cool to add to after I get a chance to rewatch).
4) What are your top five fics by kudos?
good god they're all Jyn/Cassian. it's the only big ship I've written for I suppose
Be alright tomorrow (Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian) Hope in the air (Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian) Singer, save our secular souls (Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian) To steal what she never could own (Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian) Delayed gratification (Rogue One, Jyn/Cassian)
5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I try to!! Sometimes when I'm deep in the writing hole I just stay away from ao3 so as not to ?? idk?? make myself feel guilty? get distracted? so it can take me a while to respond.
When people are reading updates as I post them I try to respond quicker! I like to respond to acknowledge how grateful I am to people who took the time to read and cheerlead and say something nice. To show I appreciate it and the time they spent on it. If it possibly leads to discussion about what's going on in the fic then so much the better!
6) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Probably just Hope in the Air, for sticking with the canon Rogue One ending and leaning into the sense that even if he got to a bacta tank, Cassian's in a pretty bad way. Also Oh sleep! it is a gentle thing (Ripper Street), again for…following canon, dealing with Deborah's decision to stop seeing Reid and Emily's descent into a place where Reid feels he has to have her sent to the asylum.
7) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Jerott wish-fulfilment!! The ransoun made, the prisoneris redeemit (Lymond Chronicles, Francis/Jerott).
8) Do you get hate on fics?
I don't think I've had any hate on ao3, no. Some blunt comments when I hadn't done my research on aurebesh well enough/resued a plot device, but not hate.
9) Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yes? All kinds? Idk, I'm trying to get more creative, though traditionally I think I write emotionally knotty, not-always-satisfying sex that does heavily lifting on the characterisation. And is also hot.
10) Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I haven't posted it on ao3 yet, but there's the Lymond Chronicles 1980s band AU crossover with And Then We Danced, which is just like. The nichest of nichey niches. Can't believe there are like three people who might read it, so it's still not as unpopular as a medieval Icelandic saga au of a niche Andor ship written in the first person. I didn't go out of my way to drive readers away, I swear!!! Please give The Saga of the Coal-biter and the Skraeling a chance, it's my precious baby.
11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge, lol. I think more people would need to want to read my fics first.
12) Have you ever had a fic translated?
No, but I'm open to it if anyone wants! I have had two podfics made of my works, which has been lovely!
13) Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
No, though there was a fun Lymond Pawn in Frankincense AU which started as me and @erinaceina spit-balling about Philippa getting captured by GRM and Khaireddin surviving, and @stripedroseandsketchpads wrote some nice whumpy scenes about it!
14) What's your all time favorite ship?
Oh, usually whatever I'm writing at any given time. Faramir/Éowyn was formative influences, though.
15) What's a WIP you'd like to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I really don't like admitting that I don't think I'll finish something. I do have 17 subscribers(!!??) to a Lord Bateman (Child ballad 53) inspired Rogue One AU (What would you give?) so even though finishing that is very low down my priorities I'd hate to say outright that I wouldn't return to it.
16) What are your writing strengths?
Emotion, description, description of emotion… capturing micro-expressions and little tics that define a character. Because of this I think I'm pretty good at making people in-character even in weird settings. Writing people who aren't good or bad, just flawed and affected by their lived experiences. Creating an atmosphere. Also, when I pull it off, making you laugh one moment at something ridiculous and then sucker-punching you in the gut :')
17) What are your writing weaknesses?
That when I'm asked to think of my strengths I go blank. That I constantly, constantly overthink things when I've posted them in case I wrote something that will be horribly misunderstood or just actively bore established readers into giving up. The fear that what I enjoy writing is so inherently dull no one else will enjoy reading it, that I'm not setting out to 'write fic' but to write something pretentious and beautiful and that's not what anyone reads fic for. Also oh my god I need to learn brevity. Simple plots. Don't overthink the plot Jo. I what-if my plots to death and then find myself disgusted by all the ways they're inadequate. Actually what all this comes down to is a controlling urge in my writing: I want to control every detail of this scene, including where the information is lacking, and I worry that if I leave anything to chance I'll be misunderstood. But at the same time I love ambiguity and gaps and leaving things open to interpretation. Inside me there are two wolves and one adores unanswered questions while the other suffers from a neurodivergent urge to info-dump in order to make sure everything is clear.
18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
I'd love to quote from Umberto Eco's author's note to The Name of the Rose, where he argued with his publisher about keeping Latin dialogue in! Ony my copy of the book is in storage. Also there's the whole…I'm a fan of the Lymond Chronicles. If there isn't untranslated dialogue in at least five different languages why are you bothering? And yeah I very much did learn a language because of a film and then spent a lot of time considering how communicating in this language as opposed to English would affect the dialogue and interactions I was writing. So yes, dialogue in another language when it's properly contextualised is good - not when it's random phrases of unnecessary Space Spanish because someone's exoticising Diego Luna.
19) First fandom you wrote for?
I'm of the generation where it was inevitably H*rry P*tter, if we're talking internet published fanfic. But as a kid I did keep diaries full of drawings and stories about Sandokan the tiger and Bucky O'Hare.
20) Favorite fic you've ever written?
I have like. Post-partum depression about the saga AU right now because seeing it interact with the world makes me doubt myself horribly, but realistically, it's my beloved child. It's just having to carry all my grad school trauma as well as all my past Star Wars fandom trauma and you know what?? It's good enough to do that. It is. It's the first of a trilogy, and I WILL finish the trilogy.

nine fandom people to get to know better 💖✨
thank you @lunaaaylin for the tag, ur my favourite :D
THREE SHIPS YOU LIKE:
ai di and chen yi from kiseki: dear to me (taiwan dramas always know exactly how to do angst to such an extent that i also actively suffer and i'm not even part of the relationship, but the reward is so delicious scrumptious yummy to me that it's worth all the headaches it causes)
tang yi and meng shao fei from history: trapped (it's the first history series i watched and perhaps you might think that's why it's my favourite but you'd be wrong. it's actually because it's the best <3)
bai lang and jin xun an from my tooth, your love (another taiwan drama to complete the trio but omg i binged this show in the weirdest way possible (backwards) for my own personal silly reasons but yes. they're up there as some of my favourites because of their silly boy communication but also because of the trope of cooking for the one you love which i'm utterly enamoured with just like xun an is enamoured with bai lang)
FIRST SHIP EVER:
i had to go check on ao3 who the oldest pairing that i've got bookmarked fics for and it's merlin x arthur <3 i watched bbc merlin when it aired so i'm guessing it started around then but i wasn't reading fic at the time so idk sjfdks. if we're talking first true otp it's probably thorn and daphne from scooby doo and the witch's ghost :D
LAST SONG YOU HEARD:
i'm currently listening to fall in love again by p1harmony who i've been getting into a lot more recently so <3
FAVOURITE CHILDHOOD BOOK:
there's a book called the secret island by enid blyton and that's the first book i physically couldn't put down because the storyline had me hooked from the first page ksdhfks but also a book called numbers by rachel ward, which i read as a teen but i still think about to this day. in fact, i still have it somewhere.
CURRENTLY READING:
the sword of kaigen bc i saw it mentioned on tiktok and it's actually so good like worldbuilding is mwah <3 but when i'm not reading that, then i'm hunting for good fics (mostly the untamed bc those characters are my comfort boys)
CURRENTLY WATCHING:
anti reset, 1000 years old, deep night, 23.5, and i feel you linger in the air rewatch that is absolutely krilling me <3
CURRENTLY CONSUMING:
fresh orange juice and bourbon biscuits <3 i haven't been able to have either for so long bc of treatment so now i'm indulging a bit :D
CURRENTLY CRAVING:
this specific chocolate cereal that is like. little chocolate bowls and it's so good but i haven't had it in so long.
i'm tagging @patchanons, @universe-club, @lwjenthusiast, @jimmyysea, @junghaesin if you haven't already done this and want to! no pressure ofc <3

💜mental check in!💜
Just popping in to say that whatever you are feeling right now is VALID.
I’ve been feeling A LOT. Most of which I can’t explain. But a surprisingly big part has been loneliness. So I thought I would make this post to possibly help someone else feel less lonely.
Here are some of my thoughts, and how I choose to rationalise them:
• It seems like the actors and creators are moving on very quickly - Anger and sadness and guilt- they have all gone through this grieving process since summer, they love this project just as much as you, but are also excited for their journey with other stuff their doing! How lucky you are to find out what that “other stuff” is!
• This is an end. - Sadness and grief - In some ways yes. But it’s all still here! You can rewatch the episodes. And the fandom is still VERY much active. And you’re not leaving, right? As for the story? It’s changing mediums! The characters still have so much life to live. There are soooo many talented fanfic writers out there. GO FIND THEM.
• The finale (ew hate that word) was PERFECT! - Happiness and glee - YESSS A PISITIVE FEELING! We like having those! And yes. “Finale” is so… final?
•I feel like I have a way too strong reaction. Why am I so dramatic? - Panic and guilt - Noo. It’s big. EVERY. FEELING. IS. VALID. + you have a lot going on in real life. It’s all just exploding now.
•Everything hurts - idk - Let it. But not too much.
•I love everyone involved in this show so incredibly much I wanna thank them and hug them and jsjsjdjs - Love, sombreness, sadness, confusion? - They know. In some weird, incomprehensible way. And be careful not to go too far into this parasocial relationship spiderweb!
•THEY COMPLETED A REVOLUTION 😭😭😭😭😭 - So. Many. Feelings. - I KNOWWWW AAAAAAAAAA
Feel free to DM me if you want help with your feelings!💜 love you lot🫶
UPDATE I JUST SAW EDVINS POST ON IG I TAKE IT ALL BACK IM JUST SO FUCKIMG SAAD GOOOOODBYE

isn't it better to hyperfixating bc like... the strike will go on for months, its not even clear when they will start filming. like idk but it is very hard for me to engage in the fandom or read theories bc i feel like the majority of them kinda is starting to feel like they're coming from hard reaches bc of lack of content that ppl are currently suffering from (no offense, i am not saying this to shade anyone i am just saying ppl just tend to hyper analize bc there is not much to do). i sometimes envy ppl who keep the hyperfixation going bc they are interested in following fandom content still or engage with it. but at some point it just doesnt interest me anymore, i rarely see a take that makes me go 'hmm thats interesting' in a legit way fr
I think it's good if you agree with the majority of the theories going around the tag but I personally don't, so I either make my own stuff (but I have no energy because of work lately) or I just am constantly "lacking" new content even without the strike because even before most of the time I disagree but I don't want to cause problems in the tag, I want to be respectful and have a nice time with everybody here even if we disagree on some things about the show so I'm not commenting or reblogging adding my point of view... I used to do that more often in the first months but it just caused people to be upset and start being passive aggressive even if I just was hoping to have a conversation and I don't have the energy to clarify that all the time and I also don't want to upset anybody
Plus now I've moved to Ireland and started working and living with roommates that brought a lot of drama in the house with people fighting and having affairs kind of so I'm pretty burned out by everything right now... so I kind of hate still being fixated with stranger things in the back of my mind because I can't give that the proper time that I would need to be happy about it because I have responsibility in my real life that must come before 🥲🥲🥲🥲
I'm happy in a way because I wanted to be more active and actually do stuff out of the house but at the same time I'm always thinking about Will and byler in the back of my mind and I don't have time to rewatch or really feel the emotions (?)
Idk how to explain but I still have the urge to do that and be on Tumblr etc... So I'm both happy and stressed and that's why I would kinda want to not be fixated so much on it... Oh and I also don't have anybody in my life that likes the show as much as me except you lovely people here so I just dump my thoughts here in the tag when I have a bit of time 🤧

do you think there's anything to be implied about the quality of rwby's writing and framing in light of how much of the audience misinterprets salem/oz and the role of the gods? i see so many people reading the lost fable as a straightforward condemnation of salem and ozma as a pretty basic tragic hero that it makes me nervous about the future of the show and that IM reading too much into things when i see more nuance in salem. are that many people really that shallow when engaging with rwby? idk
nah people are—well tbh i think what it comes down to mainly is that fandom is not really centered around critical analysis, it’s centered on transformative engagement, and while these are by no means mutually exclusive endeavors they are in fact. Different. analytical vs transformative approaches to the text are different endeavors with different goals requiring different skillsets and can but do not inherently overlap. frankly in fandom spaces i think real textual analysis is not just ancillary but actively discouraged; nobody is quicker to respond to analytical discussions with “it’s not that deep” than a fan who doesn’t like the discussion and there is a noticeable tendency in fandom spaces for any analysis that isn’t 100% ebullient to be read as negativity or critical—e.g. note the frequency with which my reading of ozma is interpreted as character bashing—which isn’t to say that fandoms do not engage analytically at all, but in broad terms there is something of an unspoken… chilliness toward textual analysis in fandom culture. and i am saying this from the perspective of having written a lot of textual analysis and a lot of fanfiction across different fandoms; there is A Pattern. you write a detailed analytical breakdown of your reading of a character and see people tagging it fandom negativity while gushing about the detailed character study you wrote based on that same reading enough times and you start to pick up on the fact that maybe fandoms are not really built for analytical engagement. there is also the whole thing where fandom has an entire category of headcanon predicated on “this thing happened in the text but i don’t like it so no it didn’t” and a second entire category predicated on “this has no basis and is possibly out of character but i like it so happened actually” lmao [TO BE CLEAR THIS IS NOT A VALUE JUDGMENT I HAVE NONSENSE HEADCANONS ALSO ITS FINE.]
anyway this is all fine but! because fandoms devote the bulk of their collective energy into pouring out vast endless streams of like, fanfic and fanart and headcanon and “ship dynamics” [i still do not quite understand what these are] and incorrect quote mills and so forth you tend to get a sort of collective flattening of the text. there is a tendency for characters to be stripped down and reduced to small easily-manageable sets of tropes derived more from aesthetics and first impressions and for any moral complexity to be boiled down to simple black and white and for unique worldbuilding to be smudged a bit until it resembles its nearest recognizable trope. there is a sort of creative entropy. a smooth surface is easier to write on. also sometimes fans do not Obsessively Rewatch The Show four times in the space of a year and over time details get memetically blurred and this, obviously, is detrimental to the overall fidelity-to-canon of popular fanon.
and then like the thing to remember about rwby is it’s a very detail-oriented story, and one that respects its audience. the one downside of that storytelling approach is that fandom is uniquely ill-equipped for it (think about how many people Completely Missed that ironwood was on the express train to fascism land in V4-5 even though. the narrative made it like. hilariously obvious)
In Summary i lived through the fandom where the protagonist after two years of increasingly toxic behavior towards her bestie, charbroiled her friend’s arm into a shriveled blackened husk and not only did not apologize but had a whole episode about being mad at the friend for being upset and then 95% of the fandom was shocked when the friend went “fuck you” and stole the magical artifact whose power was involved in the charbroiling incident all of four episodes later; and almost two years later half the remaining is still Discoursing about how the friend “didn’t have a reason” for betraying the protagonist. tts was a show written with small children in mind. i have witnessed Actual Forty Year Olds insisting that this character’s betrayal was petty and childish. rwby is a lot more tightly-written and nuanced and not a disney princess cartoon and while it does benefit from its fandom not being mostly Disney People the fandom is still. A Fandom. doing what fandoms… do.
