this is going on ao3 once maintenance ends. T rated, no major content warnings. Daniel reunites with Armand in India

Turns out twenty first century India’s full of vampire fanatics, whose enthusiasm for Daniel’s book had spawned an impromptu press tour.  He’s traversed the length and breadth of the country, giving interview after interview to pretty young journalists with more chutzpah than sense. 

The first time he felt Armand he’d been traveling from Bangalore to Chennai, on an ancient train with peeling paint. He’d jolted awake in his private car, the rumbling of the train a distant murmur compared to the borrowed blood roaring in his ears. It was like a string within Daniel had been pulled taut. He turned in the direction of Armand - to where he knew, instinctively, Armand was - and felt something within him reach out.

Miles and miles away, he felt something respond in kind.

One rented car and two nights of dubious dirt-road driving later, Daniel found Armand in bumfuck nowhere, Tamil Nadu. He floated in front of a temple whose summit seemed to touch the sky, his cheekbones illuminated by the full moon above them.

“Armand!” Daniel got out of his car with all the grace of a raging bull. “What the fuck is this?”

Armand kept staring at the temple, suspended in midair. A faint breeze made Armand’s hair and the hem of his black kurta flutter. Despite everything he’d learned about vampires in the last six months, Daniel wondered if Armand had heard him. 

“I remember this place,” Armand said, so quietly Daniel wondered if he’d hallucinated it.

“You remember this?” Daniel strode towards Armand, stopping when his head was under Armand’s sandals. “From when?”

“I was a child.” Moonlight made the whites of Armand’s eyes gleam. “I prayed here, with my parents.” 

He floated to the temple’s entrance. His big toe kissed the carving upon the threshold. “I knelt upon this stone.”

He floated into the temple itself. Daniel had no choice but to follow him. He watched Armand come face to face with the idol nestled within the center of the temple. 

“I remember the smell of the incense,” Armand said. He cupped the idol’s cheek. “I remember the garlands the priests hung around this god’s neck.” 

He grasped the garland around the idol’s neck now, and rubbed one of its jasmine petals between his fingers. “When I was a boy I wondered if the garlands were as soft as they looked.” He smiled, his teeth a flash of white in the dark. “Now I know.”

Finally Armand turned towards Daniel. His eyes glistened with unshed tears. The smile receded from his face, inch by inch, until Daniel was face to face with the expression Armand had worn right before he bit him.

“Will you interview me?” Armand asked. “Will you let me tell you what I remember?”

I feel kinda stupid for not thinking of this earlier, but:

Both the preboot and reboot twins' swords are a LOT more durable than normal, Human Realm steel. Or seemingly any other metal from the Human Realm, for that matter. They can also cut through just about anything, too. The Yamato even moreso, given that it can cut things like human and demon souls/memories and literal dimensions, but the Rebellion is pretty absurdly sharp, too. (I'm mostly talking about the preboot swords here, but I'm gonna assume the same for the reboot swords as well, unless proven otherwise.)

Which also means that those Devil Arms would probably be particularly good for something illegal, like, say, cutting into a bank vault. Or even just breaking into or out of a place.

I headcanon that preboot Vergil probably did his fair share of illegal shit in order to survive on the streets as a kid, especially with Mundus and Mundus' minions hunting him. Not sure how much breaking and entering preboot Vergil did- I COULD see him breaking into places and stealing things, but only if it was stuff relating to Sparda and the demon world. Power, and all that. Or if he just absolutely HAD to break into somebody's house to steal food and clothes, or into some abandoned building to spend the night because the weather outside is awful, but even then, that was probably mainly when he was a kid. Not a lot of mercenary jobs available for 8 year olds, y'know? Unless you count following people and pinching small items. Which I could also see him and preboot Dante doing, tbh- gotta do what you can to survive.

Reboot Dante, though, I feel like probably WOULD of broken into places for the sole purposes of stealing shit. For similar reasons as the preboot twins, but also probably for some gang/"official" illegal shit, too. I couldn't see him robbing banks or anything, but I could maybe see him robbing some rich people's house while they were away on vacation or something. Just to get by- I think he leaned towards more mercenary work than theft and drug peddling, and even then, only when he couldn't get honest work. Could also see him entering into some underground fighting rings- he's got a healing factor, so he figures, what the hell? Why not? Tho of course he'd be holding back to make sure he didn't kill anyone. Even if they paid him to kill someone. Might be kinda hypocritical, since I said I could see him doing mercenary work, so... Maybe he would, Idk. Mercenary work seems like it'd be different, tho, from fighting in a ring. Gotta draw the line somewhere.

I could see the twins swords being stronger then regular swords!! I had a lot of complicated headcanons about how Rebellion and Yamato were made and their purposes in the reboot which are explored in Swan Song but I still have yet to finish that asdfghjkl but I definitely think both were painstakingly crafted so them being particularly strong and that being useful to the twins makes a lot of sense

Also I am a big fan of combat sports, I find them really interesting, and have a particular soft spot for underground fighting rings in fiction so I support Dante doing this. I like the concept and I tend to headcanon reboot Dante as a person with very low self preservation and very much wants to punch people so being able to do that while getting paid would be a plus for him

Consensual somnophilia is something I'd never given a lot thought ngl but now that I *have* in the context of these two unhinged freaks, I am obsessed! How the mere sight of Daniel's near unconscious body made Armand feel like a newborn vamp... insane. And Daniel offering himself up to Armand like that even though he wouldn't remember any of it, but the physical evidence of Armand's presence all over his body AND the knowledge of having been ravished by him in such a manner was more than enough jerk off material to last for an entire lifespan. I love this unhinged man sm 🥹

Kink-wise I feel like it had a little of everything? Armand biting his foot, under his arms, his dick (not Armand thinking the blood flowing from Daniel's dick tasted sweeter than the rest of him jfc he absolutely would), and him talking to Daniel through the whole thing was incredible. "Never has he allowed himself to be such a leech" dear god😭

Also loved getting to see Daniel high at the club and Armand wanting to taste the drugs through him (such a Devil's Minion staple, can't ever get enough of it), Armand keeping the bloody bedsheets and taking them to his coffin (WHO's the mordbid romantic now huh???), and him dragging some random blond man into an alley before sunrise because he absolutely needed that release as well... 15/10 I sometimes can't believe you're actually out here blessing us with such incredible work on a regular basis. HOW lucky this fandom is to have you for fucking real, xoxo DA ❤️

Ahhhh dungeon anon!!!

I feel like a broken record saying this because lately every day sucks and I'm having a rough time, but today was bumpy and so reading this really cheered me up!!

Honestly somno evaded me because I couldn't wrap my brain around the appeal of someone being completely asleep for the entirety of an experience. So the only way I could tackle it was via Armand and his sensory stuff, because having no thoughts or reactions to play off would open up so many doors for him and let you really have him do anything.

And I said it a million times in my comment replies but I was worried the horniness of Armand's feelings wouldn't telegraph and like if Daniel enjoying it the morning after would make sense but!! I'm so happy it did!! They're freaks together and like now the door is also open for me to have Daniel ask to be bitten in weird places while he's awake for it.

I also loved making him talk to Daniel's body because at that point he was really just rattling on to hear himself speak lmao But also I think saying out loud what he was about to do allowed him to give himself permission to do it. The vibe would have been so different if he just silently feasted, and honestly I think it would have been one or two bites and then him leaving.

And making him take the bedding as a souvenir!! Idk I just love Armand have gross weirdo trophies from lovers (and actually in my wip I need to finish editing Daniel finally gets a gross weirdo trophy of his own, so hopefully I get that done this week)

Not you because I know how you feel about about but I think those who are able to should get through reading Merrick so they can truly see just how bad the characterization of David really is. It would be unconscionable for them to include David in show just on the principle of how he was in the books. Yes there’s the creepy comments about 14 year old Merrick but it is worse because David in his narration mentions how he’s been in hot water before with the Talamasca before because of his pedophile behavior and even kind of goes back and forth with himself about whether or not his proclivity for teenagers when he was 40-70 counts, so much that he writes to them to inform that he’s being good and not being a pedo about a thing.

Merrick’s great grandmother and dead sister’s spirit in no uncertain terms tell David they know he’s into kids, the whole book is basically an excercise for Anne Rice to be like “I know this character is a disgusting creep and I think it’s hip and groovy and you should love this character anyway and in fact ship this guy with my protagonist instead of guy you all fell in love at the beginning”.

At least with Marius he can be used for the audience to understand Armand’s background and the root of some of his trauma but David adds absolutely nothing to the story. Since show Daniel is practically an original character he can be used in the series in place of David for any old man wisdomy shit and just in general for a character to be present at X event where another body is needed. This whole idea of a lack of faithfulness to book!Daniel is bullshit. He’s just in the Devil’s minion section and then is barely mention at all until we find out he’s become a braindead model train maker in book 8, and then he doesn’t become sentient again until the PL series. Aside from Devil’s Minion events the iwtv production really have the ability to start from a blank slate and integrate him into any event David was present for plus make him a compelling character.

Wow everything I learn about David just gets worse and worse 🤢 And you make a good point, I haven't read the books he is a major character in, and I don't feel like I missed anything worthwhile by avoiding him 😂

Now whether the AMC show will do this idk, they brought the worst version of Lestat, the one I pretend doesn't exist, from book 4 to their adaptation of book 1 (unforgivable crime imo) 🤷‍♀️ It's kind of just a wait and see

Favorite thing about them:

I love her comically ruthless behavior dsnjkd. I loved her plan about what to do Mafia and her digs at Hat Kid's Hat jddsk.

I also like how her turning on the lava faucets in Mafia town foreshadows the final level.

I also appreciate how she's basically a good-intentioned hero but obviously went at it all wrong and became a brutal tyrant that most of the bad guys think she went too far, and they're right. It's also kinda sad that despite what she did, she doesn't actually want to be alone once she realizes what will happen if all the bad guys went alway.

Least favorite thing about them:

Hmm.. I don't really have much I hate about Mustache Girl? I mean, I kinda hate how little of screen time she got and how her game sections got cut but that's more on game itself rather than the character...

Her character as an Anti-hero is pretty solid in my opinion tbh.

I guess if I do have one criticism about her it would be putting non-violent characters like Cooking cat or the nomad goats or the owls n penguins on the chopping block but then again she is shown to have clearly gone mad with power at that point, not fully realizing some of the people she's accusing are innocent.

Random Headcanon:

Mu living with Cooking Cat after Hat Kid leaves as she teaches her how to cook and help out in town by swapping out the mafia foods. She hasn't used the Time Piece yet due to what happened before but often looks up in the sky holding it.

Maybe one day taking over the Island and restoring back to what it used to be before in a peaceful manner.

Unpopular Opinion:

Idk if I should count this as a unpopular opinion since I only seen only a few times before but what the heck.

Yeah, she's done terrible things but do remember she's just a misguided kid who's all alone while a bunch of bullies took over her home and messed it up. She's cruel, yeah but she's not the devil and she shouldn't treated as such.

Empress 

Favorite Thing about them: Where to begin? fdskdlf She’s an amazing villain. She’s a little more intimidating than the Snatcher and Vanessa combined in my opinion. Having such a beautiful and threatening voice while showing she’s not above disposing her minions just on suspicion, and her design is amazing.  Also her theme is slaps. 

Least Favorite thing about them: Amazing Villain....So it makes it so very disappointing to see she doesn’t have a proper boss battle, especially if you consider how amazing the other boss battles are [no, I don’t consider ‘Barrel Battle’ a proper boss battle].  Rush hour is an amazing level, I will admit but I really, really wanted a boss battle with her.  Also the lack of lore for her. She’s an amazing Villain but doesn’t have a backstory in a game where the bosses have their backstories in the storybook rift due to that chapter’s rift being in the rumbi factory and tells rumbi’s story and point of view during the game. I don’t understand why when the chapter was clearly about the Empress. Though the rift was nice and the story was cute, I wish it wasn’t at the cost of getting Empress’ backstory.

Unpopular Opinion:  Not a big fan of making her fear the police at the end. I mean yeah, it’s comical seeing the tough boss lady being nervous around two puny police cats and allows a proper conclusion to the chapter but I feel that takes away from her intimidation. We see her throwing a cat and poofing it into pons, why couldn’t she do the same to these two?  Idk, it’s funny but I would prefer if they kept her being intimidating through the whole chapter.

Coffin: if characters had to be assigned jobs in the modern world, what professions would they choose?

Louis: Hedge fund manager or accountant. HIs job must be extremely boring and make you want to bang your head against the wall but rake in insane and unethical amounts of cash. Also any job he gets was handed to him by his father. (Louis also got into a prestigious college with a letter to admissions from his father as well.)

Lestat: Hard not to go rockstar or actor with this one but um yeah, actor. He is the theater kid who said he was going to Broadway when graduated high school. Now is he successful because of talent or good looks, hard to say. jk it's his skinny white twink good looks, he'd be tumblr's white boy of the month

Armand: Body farm researcher. Or you know anything else that sound equally weird and gross and only a certain kind of person could do it. I am very attached to Armand's "experiments" in the Devil's Minion so he just does gross science.

Daniel: Easy, journalist.

Gabrielle: Park Ranger. She also does field research in the parks she's in. She could have been a professor of evolution and ecology and so many people think she wasted her career but she really prefers just being out in nature, counting tortoises rather than being around people.

Claudia: Girlboss. IDK what kind of comapny she would work for and I don't think it matters. I just think her role model and who she emulates on the job is Meryl Streep's character in the The Devil Wears Prada. All that matters is she has power and gets to be a bitch all day. Literally everyone who works with her hates her.

Nicki: Musician until his and Lestat's falling out, which afterwards he goes to law school just like his father wanted him to.

New Orleans: share a headcanon about your least favourite character

Puwese no more Marius hc. I also hate David but actually avoided a lot of books he's in so idk what to say about him.

I think I've shared this before but because POC in VC fall into two categories, villain or sex object, I kind of refuse to see Arjun as "an abuser" to Pandora. Not because POC can't be abusers but just because the way this character in particular is treated in VC is exhausting. And there was one scene in Blood and Gold where it seems Marius realizes that Arjun isn't bad, Marius just wants him to be the villain so Pandora will come running into his arms. This is like immediatley retconned in the series and comes to a terrible conclusion in Blood Communion in which Marius and Arjun get in a fight and Marius kills him and everyone goes "well he deserved it". (You know while Rhosh does like 400 worse things and Lestat refuses to kill HIM, make it make sense) So my headcanon is that Marius keeps up this delusion, that Arjun is abusive, to justify his wanting to tear Pandora away. David wrote Pandora's memoir so I'm also choosing to believe Marius made him warp it.
