I don't like any of the maps I've seen for HTTYD so i'm playing a puzzle game w all the locations. This is the 3rd version so far
#httyd#how to train your dragon#httyd map#rtte#race to the edge#mm i already see things i wanna change lmao#the red circle is the are where the Red Death has control#not every dragon in there is under her control but all the dragons of her flock stay there so it's the area where dragon raids happen#i don't believe in the 3rd movie so there's no hidden world but if there WAS i'd put it there hence the ()#also i saw someone saying how funny itd be if hiccup's sarcastic narration of the 1st movie's opening scene was actually the names of place#hence ''freezing to death'' ''hopeless'' and especially ''the meridian of misery''#idk how i feel abt the bewilderbeast under berserker island so instead they're barely located in the red death's territory hence the lack o#raids#and since they're not in war w the dragons n don't get raided they have more people and can actually afford resources and time to things#like fighting other ppl and pillaging like actual vikings#the upper square is the map that berk&berserkers&freezing to death etc use#they're all p concerned w the dragon raids so there's not much energy put to exploring or interacting w Other ppl#n traders rarely go there#they're the weirdos who've settled too close to a dragon nest in the north#n the lower square is the map viggo has and where his Dragon Hunters mainly operate#im thinking of shifting that more to the right to put the rookery where the 'northern markets' currently are#also something that bothers me is that we never rly explore any normal villages#like we've got berk&the berserkers. then we've got uhh 2 dragon-friendly islands the dragon hunters and drago#like who is buying all that dragon product? who are the tribes of the other chieftains in the meeting drago burned down?#where is everyone???

pop stars aren't born in the 70s anymore like they used to be. These days they're born in a year uncomfortably close to my own which makes me clutch my chest and cry out
#music#musicians#Nia Archives was on radio the other day going 'my album's the first jungle album to be nominated for the Mercury Prize in over 25 years#that's such an honour! The last one was Roni Size and I wasn't even born then' --hang on a minute#that album was like. 1997. 'I wasn't even born yet'?#Folks she is a year older than me 😭(❤️ but also personally 😒)#Cat Burns' Mercury shortlisted album is called 'early twenties'. It is a term I am told I can no longer use for myself.#She says 'the album was a 4-year long process. I started writing it when I was 20.' Cat Burns is my age.#CMAT. Dublin's 'global superstar'. 1997. Literally she's such a classic popstar/country star I'd have expected to read like '1987' or somet#not in terms of saying she's old or anything; just that that seems appropriate for someone who's in control of their career#CMAT is like 2 years older than I am. It's so wild to me#especially this time! There have been a lot of debut albums you see#and I'm really proud of all these--I suppose at my age I'm allowed to say--kids; my peers? But it's also so strange to see#My peers are at the Mercuries. Declan McKenna is like a year older than me#That has been in my head ever since Brazil came out. He was 15. I was 14.#sigh it's a long road to either acceptance or such radical change that I 'catch up' with everyone; whatever that means#yes I'm well aware that comparison isn't a thing to do. I know it's not productive.#I try not to let it get me anxious; afterall what do I do about it?#It's not like I've got the ball rolling on anything significant to speak of. I'm just at ordinary work#idk also the industry I work in doesn't exist anymore hahahaaaa so yeah. No career. Only far away admirations! :)#We will have no infrastructure and we will be happy.#Don't read all this; just laugh at the meme about age and move on#growing up

okay not to come of as a hater for a second but i'm thinking about this again and kind of want to get the thought out...
is it just me or is the way people discuss pilots online a little... odd? don't get me wrong, it's honestly really cool to see people get so hyped up and invested in something based on the pilot alone, but from how some people discuss them it belies a bit of a misunderstand of what a pilot is supposed to be and do.
a pilot is a proof of concept for something, not the finished product. this is most evident with pilots produced the traditional route, where the final series may be wildly different from the initial pitch (the first one that comes to mind is the gravity falls pilot, although it's still pretty similar to what we did end up getting).
so it's... i'm a little concerned for the inevitable fallout when a popular pilot becomes a series that's different from it's initial pitch, i suppose
#like i really enjoyed the amazing digital circus pilot#and im excited to see how it changes and grows... but it seems like somewhere along the line#there came this false impression that a pilot HAS to be the template for a show#as opposed to the first 'complete' version of what an episode has the POTENTIAL to be#i remember noting a lot of odd discussion too when the lackadaisy pilot dropped...#and again dont get me wrong VERY EXCITING and LOTS to talk about even before the series was funded#but i remember the discussion centering around the pilot in a way that was like... treating it as if it were the finished product#less like a test run and more like a full short film?#idk i just worry someone somewhere will get in a kerfuffle and i hope it doesnt happen#jonnie's thoughts

outsiders book purists you are allowed to have strong opinions about and fundamentally disagree with the musical changing the way dally’s suicide plays out but don’t act like they did it for no reason like it is abundantly clear why that choice was made
#like i’ve said it in the tags before but having a black actor portray dallas changes the implications of that scene so drastically#and like i have not seen the show but the original novel is definitely not ready to engage with issues of race and i can see why#(especially considering how much it seems like they had to cut from the novel to the stage show)#the production team might choose to veer away from having their production (based on a story that does not delve deeply into issues of race#feature a black man being murdered in cold blood by police officers#like idk obviously dally being black adds a really fascinating aspect to his character but i do think that perhaps#the musical theatre medium is not the best suited for seeing how that canonically accurate death might affect the story with dally being#portrayed as a black man#(what with the constraints of stage adaptation + the fact that all information delivered to the audience has to somehow be filtered through#dialogue/monologue/song etc.)#idk let me know what you think#the outsiders#the outsiders musical#outsiders musical#dallas winston#dally winston

not to be about opera again but to be about opera again. as an art form it has the reputation of being super stuffy and something for snobs who don't know how to have fun only but honestly this was one of, perhaps even THE main theatrical entertainment for centuries. i wish people knew how hard these things can go and how engaging they can be. like characters kill and die and fight wars and (almost) commit human sacrifice left and right. characters fall in love they mourn they're ecstatic they cry they're furious it's an extremely dramatic and emotional art form! and i understand that opera does not appear approachable bc of the general conventions of the art form but i promise old works can be fun and engaging if you go watch them with some preparation beforehand (reading the libretto helps) - not to mention not all operas are old bc there are so many modern operas which engage with topical events! also the music slaps.
#le triomphe de trajan (1807) out here calling for a man's execution with this banger:#point de grace pour ce perfide; que tout sons sang coule sur un autel#(no grace for this treacherous man; let all his blood flow on an altar)#this is also annoying to me when people write historical fic and the characters treat the opera as this elitist thing#that they don't know anything about.#you know when they go to the opera reluctantly and then they have no idea what's going on on stage or who the composer is.#which is. very unlikely for anyone with the money to attend an opera in certain opera houses in the 19th c. tbqh#like im more of an expert on paris and vienna idk what it was like in london#but if you were decently (upper) middle class or nobility (esp in paris) you went regularly. this was like a whole social space too#i recently read a fanfic and one of the characters was like 'oh it's in italian. i don't know that' and the other character went like#'it's by a man called donizetti what did you expect'#(this was situated in 19th century london)#like first of all. donizetti was NOT a librettist he was a composer he did not write the text#and second of all. he worked on french operas ?? so did rossini. and spontini.#opera was an incredibly international art form. also bc productions would be performed in different countries all the time#(sometimes changed and/or translated but not necessarily)#and again like i said. this was one of THE main forms of entertainment. people were familiar with its conventions! it was well-liked!#ofc bc of the seating prices it was not very accessible to lower classes most of the time#but lbr most characters that get written into an opera scene in fiction are at the very least decently bourgeois lol#i wish people knew how to properly historicise forms of entertainment whose reputation has changed in the modern era#from what it was a century or more ago#very adjacent to people 'cancelling' old lit bc of 'bad takes' like idk how to tell you this but people thought different back then#completely different world view from what we have today. that does not make lit from that era irredeemable it is just from a diff. time#acknowledging that and reading the text critically but also still enjoying it are things that go tgt here#ok rant over (it is never over)#curry rambles

an hour into using obsidian and like what do you mean this was always available and free to use AND NOBODY TOLD ME
#life irrevocably changed#its especially fun for me because back in school when i didn't have a laptop and wrote on my ipad i used this notes app called bear#and it was also markdown based and has very similar structuring obsidian#so using it felt so right. and so easy#BUT LIKE ITS A THOUSAND TIMES BETTER GRRRRRR BITING MY TABLE RN#when i realised i wanted to use something software to keep track of things in the same place#i was initially thinking notion. but a) i really do not think it'll work for me because its reminiscent of a bullet journal and ive made#many bujos in my lifetime and i NEVER used it for actual productivity shit#b) their intro page literally describes the software as an ai powered workspace. i don't fucking think so#no thanks but i don't need that energy in my life rn ❤️#anyway idk why i am writing an essay on the tags WHEN I COULD BE DOING IT ON OBSIDIAN BABYYYYY GNNN#shut up al

Hello! Would it be alright if I requested an Alfred x Bestfriend! Reader?
For more information, both parties have known each other in high school and have been stuck to the hip ever since they were accepted into the same university. And while [Y/n] only has platonic feelings for Alfred, Alfred most certainly does not but still makes great strides mask it.
What makes things harder for him, though, is that [Y/n] is the type of person who takes pride in/finds it fun flirting with their friends without any romantic strings attached.
But they're also the type who enjoys diving into deep philosophical and nerdy conversations, talking about stuff like solipsism (the belief that everyone around you was created by your own mind) and then suddenly hitting Alfred with a: "If everything around me is just my imagination... then you're the best thing I've come up with."
Absolutely! I have to say, the dynamic was a little hard to nail, but I tried my best while staying true to the characters. I’ve included all those little details, so I hope it’s to your liking 🥹 This is also probably a lot more than what you’re expecting too but I really do hope you enjoy what I wrote. It’s a fun and whimsical supernatural fantasy, but above all, *imaginative* which is important for the quote to work 😉
Let me know what you think of it ❤️
#SORRY FOR THE DELAY BUT I’M MULTITASKING SCHOOL RN 🙏#Lord knows why I decided to open up requests now#I also spent an entire month writing and scrapping drafts#so the actual story changed so many times but the final product was written over a few days 😭#this has major ghost of jealousy vibes though#Idk I just can’t help writing Mathias as some sort of entity lmao#request#ask answered#thanks for the ask

so there are practical things that go into deciding what day of the week your shows release, right? the reason that NQD has moved to Wednesdays from Mondays, for example, is because I record and release the show episode by episode and on a Monday release I kept finding I was consistently letting the show eat my weekends, which was inconvenient as many people I know and love have working patterns where the weekend is their main free stretch of time.
it originally released on Mondays to have space around SBR, which was a Thursday release. SBR was a Thursday release because of Clockwork Bird, which was a Tuesday release because... I can't remember why I picked Tuesdays honestly, I was in a near constant state of panic at the time so my memories are pretty hazy, so I've no longer got any idea.
with the new thing I'm like. I'm INTENDING to have a bunch of episodes pre-finished way ahead of launch, and with the speed it's coming together, that's looking very possible. NQD now releases Wednesdays, with a Tuesday patreon release, and because Wednesdays are smack bang in the middle of the week, there's only so much breathing space I can give episodes in terms of scheduling.
picking a day of the week this time feels totally arbitrary and so i'm just like *shrug* one of them?? lmao
this is not very helpful for planning.
#eira speaks#one thing that's wild is that the production process for EVERY show I've made has been so wildly different to the others#you wouldn't think that would be the case bc it's always nearly entirely just me making this stuff#even with SBR which has the big cast#it's me doing 99% of the BTS stuff#in light of that#idk its weird just HOW different every show's production and pre-production has been#some of it is from learning new stuff each time so being compelled to make changes to my approach#but some of it is just like 'oh this show is SO different to the others' and idk i wouldn't have expected that to be the case#inchrestin innit

The dichotomy between what's popular according to booktok (from what I've see) from the most blandest books imaginable to the most taboo erotica you can think of is kinda wild.
I think that what gets me with taboo books recommended by BookTok is that they're usually very poorly written. And if the writing is poor, you're not really getting the full "shock" value.
Like, when you read Sierra Simone's Thornchapel series, the scenes read as really intense because Sierra is an excellent writer. In contrast, a book like Hooked (that one dark romance~ modern Captain Hook book, a concept I was very open to and wanted to like, for the record) is very badly written. There's taboo content and a horrible hero, but like... It just reads juvenile.
I'm about 65% through A Kiss at Midnight by Anne Stuart, a historical romance that is QUITE dark, but the writing is frankly fabulous. Because Stuart can write, the darkness (which is not like, the corny "oh he's so bad he's in a motorcycle gang" torture sequence stuff--it's TRULY intense and pretty accurate for the era) is balanced out by emotional progression and honestly? A very dry, at times dark humor. If a lesser writer handled this plotline, it would just seem like shock factor after shock factor layered on just to get people talking. Very 2edgy4me.
And I'm gonna be really real here. Some fanfic authors are made to transition to actual published books. I think Ali Hazelwood writes a really solid contemporary romance. I really enjoyed You, Again by Kate Goldbeck, and that's based on a fic I actually read. The Hurricane Wars works as a book. (And mind you, let's not take away from the work the editors and authors did to rework fics into actual books here.)
Some fic authors are meant to stay fic authors and to excel at that. I personally think that one of the reasons why we have so many blaaand romance novels right now is that a) some of them are written by less-equipped fic authors trying to write real books and b) some of the authors have read less actual books than they have fics.
There are some tensely plotted, exciting fics out there. But personally? I think the standout nature of those fics--fics like Manacled, which... I think.... is not.... for me. However, bland it is not lol--makes people think that is the NORM for fic, when it's not. The norm for fic, and what I think a lot of more casual fic consumers and people who read more fic than they do books (compared to a lot of romance readers who turn to fic to supplement their reading habits) is very plotless slice of life stuff.
And that's not meant to be derogatory. It works, especially when you're writing about characters a lot of people know and love and are PROGRAMMED to know and love. Even if it's AU and they're basically other people, if you're writing a modern, sedate romcom about Katniss and Peeta and she mentions going to archery classes and Peeta being a baker, people are like aawwwww and they enjoy the nicely written scenes that are just people being people.
That.... ultimately creates a bland story when you're writing a book about original characters nobody has a preexisting investment in.
#romance novel blogging#lol idk sometimes i feel like fic gets this sweeping pass bc we're not supposed to critique the work#and not critiquing the work is fine i'm not here to tell y'all a thing someone is doing for free is bad when they don't want feedback#BUT... i think it's fair to critique the way fic has been uplifted and held on this pedestal compared to books#and EQUATED to books#which is my biggest complaint always#it's not better or worse it's different and if you think you can transition from fics to books#without reworking your products and your style#and frankly often putting a lot more work in#... idk man that's just so low effort and i personally think that's one reason why we see subpar books where nothing happens#they've always existed some people just do that lol but some of it i read and i'm like#this is like someone wrote a review 200k word fic about absolutely nothing changed the names and bit publish#(and another thing--one way you CAN tell there is a different type of work being done with fic is the wordcount dif#the standard for say a historical romance#which is often given more room traditionally in terms of word count than a contemporary romance#is 100k words#contemporaries often have landed between 80k-100k#then you have these 150k contemporaries and they're bloated as hell#but that wordcount is not unusual for fics#and fics are nORMALLY if edited at all being edited by amateur beta readers who do not professionally edit work#and often only look for typos or scene/character issues versus things like overarching plot and structural weakness#ADDITIONALLY! when you read a fic you're usually reading someone writing in real time#whereas if you are reading a well-done actual book you're reading someone's like... billionth draft that's been worked over by#multiple eyes. and i include indie in this bc the really good indie books have usually been professionally edited#on top of critique partners proofers etc)#ANYWAY. MY RANT.

@thedragonofbadasstemple that post was getting a little too long for me to keep reblogging lol
my hypmic collection goals has pretty much dwindled to getting kuukou plushies and mochi set variants only lmao like i used to aim to decorate my walls with merch, buy preorders for bonuses and tho admittedly a lot of that has slowed to help fund this trip to japan lol, i have been looking at merch like ‘do i need that????’ instead the usual impulse buy lol
i enjoyed the rep squad stages and would love to buy the ones i enjoyed the most in addition to bop2023 but it really is difficult to keep up with both canon and stage items when they both cost ¥8000 usually lol
i think it’s bc we’ve seen what hypmic has done with its characters and story that we, as nagosaka fans, expect it to happen for our faves and i don’t think it’s unfair to do so lol. we’ve all had our guesses and observations and had fun coming to conclusions based on crumbs but i think by everyone swinging on by to voice their complaints, we have loooong reached that point where it’s just not sustainable and feels more neglectful than anything. so even tho it’s exhausting lol, i think we should keep on having those high expectations and keep the pressure on kr to provide lol
#this is vee speaking#like i remember all those jokes about hypmic seeing fan hcs and writing them into their story#maybe that’s true lol but i also think kr definitely has its ear on the ground#and they have to be aware of the growing dissatisfaction with hypmic rn#idk if it can change anything rn since anything that’s coming out from here on out likely has been in production for a minute#but they’ll be more aware i think of what they’re putting out since it’s clearly having an effect on fans lol#and what affects the fans affects their money LOL
