Oblivion has the weirdest aesthetic choices going on. Everything is super bright and saturated, the characters look silly and almost bordering on cartoonish, and the voice acting and delivery tends to be pretty silly. The whole things has such a strong classic fantasy vibe compared to the other tes games, but also there's a bunch of realistic gore and rotting corpses and really dark questlines with gross visuals (for the quality of those visuals). it's such a weird game.

sorry, i'm still hung up on how bad the writing for sarevok was in bg3. it's not even just "he's so out of character!!" bad. that is just straight up not him. literally who is this man, what the hell is he talking about, and what has he done with the actual sarevok because nothing he says makes ANY sense like....

just as one example of how wild the contradictions/retcons are, this is how bg3 has him recount his resurrection in bg2 -

something I really love abt souls games is how every character is so lovingly voice acted. and I don't just mean the main ones but even the ones that 'don't matter' or show up once and then die etc whatever. all of them feel so...idk. unique? charming. none of them feel like their vas just kind of half assed it bc 'well no ones going to care about this guy anyway' they're all so full of character and life

Just finished my first playthrough of Slay the Princess and I don't understand half of what happened but I'm thinking about how the Narrator's whole plan of ending death involved killing in the first place. Thinking about how the Voice of the Hero is against killing her, and how that makes sense because he's the literal embodiment of stagnation and life (vastly oversimplified) as opposed to her embodiment of death and change (vastly oversimplified). Thinking about ravens and crows or whatever the fuck as a harbinger of death, and yet how that image is associated with both the protagonist and the Narrator. Thinking about how the protagonist is excluded from the Narrator's "good ending," or rather, he gets separated from the world, doesn't get to see it change, thinking about how the Voice of the Hero gets restless and bored in the stillness. Thinking about how the only ending where you can walk out of the final cabin hand in hand with the princess is the one where you don't take the knife with you.

Thinking about life and death, change and stagnation walking out into the unknown hand in hand.
