This is a difficult conflict to have with yourself, and I'm sure that like, you've seen all the posts about how like "you should be self indulgent! you should write for yourself! who cares about engagement!" and this both is and isn't true. But also even if you think it is true and you'd like to get some of that energy it's very difficult and for that sending you so many hugs. It is very normal to feel insecure about sharing something you've made, and I think writers of all levels of experience and "engagement" feel down about themselves like this in cycles.

idk if I'm qualified to say a ton on this topic, but I've seen lots of "unhealthy relationship to stats page" and could tell real stories about horrible things that have happened so I guess here goes nothing?

A few things to keep in mind:

what do you consider "not a lot" ? 10? 100? 1000? One of the major problems of focusing overtly on hits/kudos/comments/and other things you can't change is that inevitably if you achieve the "number of your dreams" you will....get a new number that you want. It will be bigger. Chasing this type of external numbers based validation to the exclusion of other stuff is very difficult because it is one of those sliding slope black holes to never being satisfied with what is currently going on. This is my primary thought on why focusing on stats isn't very good: it's very easy to get into a never ending cycle of never being happy.

as someone who's written for several years: we're coming up on the winter holidays, end of the semester, winter break type time period in many parts of the world but esp for northern hemisphere english speaking fandom, so if you're seeing a decrease in hits/kudos/comments/the feeling that someone out there is reading your work in general, this could play a big role. If you've only been publishing for the last few months the first time this happens can be really jarring! But it has nothing to do with the quality of your writing or if people are interested in reading and everything to do with brickspace taking up a lot of time right now. (I imagine this might also be true for Chinese speaking fandom around New Years, but I can't say since I don't engage there very often to notice trends.)

Depending on the fandom, (which, unless you, like me, are into Naruto which seems to thrive on niche AUs from now until forever), main pairings/fandom popular juggernauts will always get more people reading than a rarepair. That doesn't mean the people who write for rarepairs are doing a bad job or that writing for a rarepair isn't rewarding to the writer in other ways, but that may mean modulating expectations on like "how many people will click on my work?" and "how much feedback will I get?"

So overall, I feel like there's a combination of factors here for why you might be feeling down, but there are ways to help with this!

For one: talking about your writing and your work and what you're doing! This, I've found, is a great way to make friends. (also to anyone who says that this is obnoxious and attention seeking, this is the attention seeking webbed site, if you don't want attention why are you here????)

For two: locate friends and yell your thoughts at them <- I have found this to be 100% a mood picker upper when it comes to "am I doing a good job at writing?"

For three: find what makes you really happy about your own writing! This doesn't mean that you have to seek to improve your writing, but just, stuff that you enjoy, a line you really like, a relationship you enjoyed, a fic you thought was nice, and be kind to yourself about it.

In the Teen Wolf fandom, it seems like peeps only love the big-names, the ones who regularly return to post content versus people who joined in the last few years.

As someone who has been here a while, what's your take on this? Should new people stop trying? Because that's what I'm feeling.

I just wanna say, before I really get to my answer, I'm kind of touched that you see me having been around for a while!! I'm definitely not what I'd consider a big-name and I know my blog is mostly just my little corner full of stuff I curate with my own creations or reblogs of other people's but you see me 😊 I'm also for sure not tapped into the fandom itself like some folks I follow. I just doot my snoot in my little archive of teen wolf shenanigans and try to maintain friendships with anyone who wants to interact with me (via asks, messages, or tags, good golly I wanna hug anyone who interacts in tags lol and I for sure recognize when ppl come back).

I typed a way longer response that you may not have wanted, all to just say I would hate to see new people stop trying!! I adore that teen wolf is still pulling people despite it being off air and potentially not getting more movies (whether or not that's what most people want). I think fandoms need fresh air continually too. No two people will experience the show or content 100% the same way and have every single response be the same. Just with the two cakes mindset of creation, there are multiple cakes for how we all digest the show and they're all delicious. I carved out my own little corner here because I wanted organization for myself, and I create largely for myself. Any interaction I get, I fucking adore, I cannot impress that enough lol. I just never really expect it bc I know I do my own thing here with stuff like Multiamory May moodboards. Rarepairs and polyamory and trans headcanons just aren't everyone's cup of tea and I stopped trying to be recognized for what I "target" when I know my quality isn't 100% and I'm just vibing to my own weirdness instead of being super put together about it. I've definitely flickered in and out of the fandom when it comes to engagement too - like how last year (or year before? idk, time is confusing) I was running regular events but currently I just don't have the energy/passion in the same way.

If you really want to be seen more, esp if you make your own posts/content, utilize tags, even if you're hella lazy with it like me. I try to always use #twedit no matter what, in addition to #twfemslash and #twrarepair when applicable. Those go on the radar of people who fill the queues of some "big" blogs that do a bunch of reblogging just to have continual content out there. I also feel like I got a foot in via a couple of my discord servers, mainly Teen Wolf Legacy, and making a couple too (one for Scott shipping, one for teen wolf femslash; others i know of included pecific Derek-positive ones, a Stiles shipping one). That absolutely increased my reach, because I could share my stuff with people who specifically wanted to get pinged for, say Allison/Stiles content as an example. Idk that my following blew up or anything, I'm still a relatively small teen wolf blog. But it did make it easier to grow into my niche here. It also made me realize how big the fandom is. Some might only watch for or engage with a particular ship or character, while others like me do so for pretty much anyone.

This was still lengthy, I'm sorry. You caught me after work when my brain is like solely focused on decompression via fixation and tumblr is often a source for that. Please don't be discouraged from trying, and if you feel comfortable coming directly to me I could possibly point you in the direction of some other teen wolf blogs with similar interests! Big-names are hella daunting and it still blows my mind some of the ones I always sort of looked up to also just have some nerd behind them that I can talk to (even if I feel like im annoying them lmao). as for the rarepairs, the kin-related ones are mostly just poe and tachihara! i'm also not sure if this is a rarepair because i've never looked through the tags for it or anything, and idk what their ship name is or if they even have one? but i'm rewatching bsd (like most of the fandom is, apparently, although i did not realize that until later) and noticing a LOT of chemistry between dazai and akutagawa.

i know it's a lot more common to ship them with other people, but akutagawa spends the better half of the first couple seasons down bad for him and even JUMPS OFF THE RAILING OF THE MOBY DICK because atsushi says dazai is on the phone and wanted to talk to him, and then threw it over the edge. that man is OBSESSED and i will take no criticism.

i guess that answers your question about dazai ships LOL. as a side note, i mostly like soukoku's canon dynamic and try to steer clear of fandom skk stuff. i dont know if i could ever write any of the super popular ships, and i dont know if i could really do dazai justice. but if i get a request involving him, ill give it my best shot. i do have an idea (that i havent started writing yet) that heavily focuses on him, so ill have to write him eventually. thats one reason im rewatching the series honestly

(as a side note, i don't go by poe here just because it's a kin name, i just thought it might be easier to remember a piece of my URL than the name i usually go by online—also cause i thought poe's skill juxtaposed with the weird porn i write is a hilarious combo)

zak, how do you find things like fanarts and other kinds of ship content for tot that's not mc x one of the boys? asking bc recently i got into marius x artem but aside from some fics on ao3, i can't never find things like fanarts or just posts about them. i feel like I'm looking in the wrong place? kajsjs but i only know of the tot tumblr fandom.. 😭😭

that being said, yea it is kinda difficult to be finding art and posts about any of the nxxboy ships. frankly, the only reason i can find stuff myself for marluke is cuz vjJKHVJKH I JUST (to some degree) KNOW OR KNOW OF EVERYBODY WHO SHIPS AND MAKES STUFF FOR MARLUKE HAHA. theres not very many of us, so it's easy for me to just follow Everybody whos ever made a marluke thing HJJKSF

one thing that can help tho for hunting art and content is through tags!!! i discovered a lot of great marluke arts here just by searching their ship tag #marluke or #mariluke (idk what divergent tagging evolution happened that marluke is more commonly used on tumb but on twt, it's primarily mariluke)

if im not mistaken, the common tag for marius/artem is #martem on twitter. sadly though, it doesnt seem to be the common tag on tumblr and idk what the martem shippers are using here DDD:

all of the nxxboy ships are very much rarepairs, in comparison to the other ships. there really arent going to be very many people, but the people who Do ship the ship are most likely gonna be extremely passionate about it. or at least, thats been my experience meeting and talking and making friends with other ppl who like marluke!!! small bunch, but very passionate. talking to the ppl around who ship the ship can both help u find more stuff of the ship and you might get a friend along the way too!

another one, on the side of baddie fans is Sasha and Radlynn, I think they complement each other well,, it could be funny, not in the same way as Sarge Fan and LePete but yknow, just 2 girls on a date, looking out for each other as they avoid monsters hitting them n stuff

Other one that I'm pretty sure is a rare pair cuz there's no fanart and I only ever saw it mentioned like twice is Jojo and Duke Gotcha. I'm so here for fancy gay men being picky and also like, highkey slaying. also just fancy dinner nights where they rant to each other about their busy work days, maybe Gotcha being frustrated with leads not making sense, Jojo describing texture that is something that should have never existed, I like them complaining and then kissing

I love it so much for him, makes him silly in a way that I like it. and Johnny needs that silliness in his life me thinks

oh yeah tumblr doesn't have something for reporting works that are plagiarized/copyrights, right? unlike ao3, in ao3 it seems that if a fic is stolen, ao3 will respond to it, although i don't know if it works if the story is published in a different sight (here or other websites) then copied to ao3 that ao3 will respond too it or if it's in ao3 first then placed in a different site... But others taking your ideas are horrible especially if you said you'd be thinking of doing it yourself

It's more subtle than this, so I can't call it plagiarism even, but it's still unfair imo. In one case it's a (very beautiful) fanart of a very rare pairing I posted edits and wrote a fic about, that basically no one mentioned before I did, but the artist just posted their thing kinda hinting that they invented that weird pairing lol, even tho most ppl in the fandom mentioned me and my stuff when they later came up with fanworks for them. they didn't have any 'duty' towards me and if they didn't say anything it would have been totally ok for me, but theirbut their claiming they didn't know where their idea came from felt fake and unfair to me.

In another case I wrote a fic and posted it on ffnet and ao3 5years ago (I can't believe it's been so long omg), I posted edits for this rare pairing as well, and I remember that when I looked for fics for them there were very little and not exactly IC. More recently I saw one and it was very good, like, too good, like totally similar to my dynamics and characterization. And in this case too it's not plagiarism either because just like I claim my characterization to be IC, that author can claim that they came up with the same characterization and dynamics because it's the right one. But still, the similarity remains, idk how to explain but I think an author can feel it when there's a 'connection' between their work, be it fic or edit or drawing, and someone else's.

As an author, when I am inspired by a drawing or a fic or whatever, I always mention it in the notes, I think it's fair to do so and I imagine the author might be pleased, as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, as they say.

So I can think that these authors didn't remember my works and just came up with their own thing by coincidence because it can happen, even though with a rarepair it's a bit weird. That's why, since technically it's not plagiarism, but it's still very unpleasant, I want to make sure that if I post my headcanons here, like I did already, they won't be stolen, or rather, they won't be taken without mentioning me...not even as a credit, just as a fact. Because I have a lot of headcanons and idea I don't have time and focus to write because real life is hard rn, and I don't want someone with an easier life, more time on their hands and a more people pleasing attitude to write smth with my ideas lol

I remember some time ago in another fandom I was, a girl came up with a headcanon. More people, I included, elaborated on it, and we created an interesting AU...the OP though got angry because in that moment she was busy, and she wanted to write her own thing from her own headcanon but we kinda stole her idea and even though we shifted it to something else, she felt an unpleasant pressure upon her idea in case she continued it. Back then I thought she was exaggerated, now I kinda understand. In the same fandom I just finished an AU I hurried writing (my concept of hurrying lol, as I'm slow) just because I saw someone posting a kinda similar aesthetic, and I didn't want my work to appear as the 'second', not that it would be a bad thing, but I had that idea first.

2020 Fanfic Year in Review

Total number of completed stories: Okay, so I have two pages (one for “serious” works, and another for hanky-panky), and naturally, the trash is going to have more completed works since those are just one(or two)-shots. For my smut page, I’ve completed 7 works this year, and for my regular page, I’ve completed 3 (though I’ve written 12 works overall).

Total number of words: Lmao, you’re really going to make me do math in the year of our Lord, 2021? *sighs* FIIIINE. *whips out calculator* For my smut page, I wrote 24,301 words, and my regular page 28,074 for a grand total of 52,375. Dang, I didn’t realize I wrote so much in my trash fics, haha.

“Starve This Sin,” hands-down! I was floored by how many hits/comments/kudos it got, especially after being in the tiny Hannibal fandom since 2013. I guess Austen fans wanted more than a “repressed hand touch” for once, LOL. At first, I was genuinely worried about that, because Austen doesn’t seem to be a smut-driven fandom. But I guess this was further proof that there’s always a place for that lol.

Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

Much more! I took this year off to write two books (er, back in 2020), so I wasn’t expecting to take breaks here and there to dabble in fanfiction, especially since my interest in Hannibal had finally dwindled to pretty much nada. Before Emma 2020 came out, I didn’t have any other interests! I’ve written fanfiction every year since 2003, so I thought 2020 might be the year I finally lost my mojo! Thankfully, I was wrong. 😊

What’s your own favorite story of the year?

Idk lol, I like different stories for different reasons. I like “Starve This Sin” since it was fun to write, but I also got way more poetic than I usually do in “Secrets, Silent, Stony,” and it’s been a delight writing an old character of mine in “The World is Made Wrong.”

Did you take any writing risks this year?

I guess there’s always a risk in throwing yourself out there, especially if you’re like lil’ ol’ me who ships rarepairs. Thus far, people have (mostly) been polite. I would’ve been able to say “HAVE been polite” if it weren’t for last week, when I received a rude review for one of my ship choices. I’m old and set in my ways. If you don’t like what I write, KINDLY GET OFF MY LAWN. 

Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?

Nope! I’m back to focusing on querying my books. However, I am still going to write whatever plot bunnies strike my fancy. Idk what it is about TURN, but I’ve never had as much inspiration for a fandom as I have with this one. Six of the 12 fics I wrote in 2020 were for TURN, and as I mentioned earlier, I wrote them all in the past two months (especially December). I’ll be posting another new fic for it soon, so that’ll be my first fic of the new year!

Most popular story of the year?

Still “Starve This Sin,” lol.

Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion:

Weeeeell, all of my TURN fics are going to be underappreciated, because I rolled up in here 3 years after the show’s cancellation lol. And couple that with the fact I ship rarepairs? Yeah. Nobody’s reading my stuff except for a very precious few (and I appreciate each and every one of them!). 💖🥰🤗

Most fun story to write?

Probably The World is Made Wrong. Back in 2017, I self-pubbed a book, and for whatever reason, I decided to resurrect one of the side characters (who was coincidentally my favorite character) and make her a main in the TURN universe. Her personality is exactly the same, but now instead of a gothic heroine, she’s from a rich Tory family in the 18th century. My chapter word counts used to average about 1-2k, but with this fic, I’m churning out chapters averaging 3-4k, sometimes even spilling into 5k territory. I’ve been pretty inspired since I wrote 23k (the additional 4k I’m speaking of hasn’t been published yet) in one month!

Most unintentionally telling story?

Like, symbolically? I never go into my writing with a plan, so happy accidents do occur...but I’m not so sure that’s happened this year.

Biggest disappointment?

How dead the TURN fandom is lol. I mean, the fanfiction tag is actually super active (it often has several updates per day), which I find amazing, but the actual interaction itself is reflective of a dead fandom.

Biggest surprise:

My inspiration! Just judging by my past fic writing behavior, if a fandom is dead/doesn’t seem receptive of my works, I tend to duck out pretty quickly since it doesn’t feel worth the energy. But for the TURN fandom, I honestly haven’t been bothered. More interaction would obviously be wonderful/welcome, but for once I’m doing this for ME, and I think that’s important. CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT!!! 😛

My Favorite Cats Ships

Okie dokie, @whitmerule wanted to know my main ships/pairings and I knew I’d have to make a post dedicated to this at some point so here it is lol (also sorry this is so long). My “main” universe, which is what all of my main pairings are in, is based on the ‘98 film for the most part (although really all of my universes are based on the ‘98 film, just with alterations here and there). 

Edit: My preferences have changed somewhat, so I’ve edited this list to reflect my current feelings towards certain pairings. This means that I’ve deleted some pairings that I don’t like much anymore, and have added some new ones :). All of these ships are in no particular order btw.

Main Pairings:

Tuggoffelees 

-I know it’s super popular and there’s loads of content on them, but I still stan. I don’t love them AS much as I used to, but they were my first ship in this fandom, and therefore are still very important to me. 

Demebombastrap 

-In terms of individual pairings, I really like Demelurina and Bombastrap on their own, but I like them best all together. I used to be quite fond of Demestrap by itself, but I’ve gotten pretty tired of that ship over time personally (obviously nothing against people who like this pairing a lot, kudos to y’all who love Demestrap ^^), so I’m not that big a fan of them on their own anymore. In order of the individual pairings I like best: Demelurina first, Bombastrap second, and Demestrap not so much.

Skimblegus (Skimbleshanks/Asparagus Jr., NOT Gus the theatre cat, I see the two of them as separate characters in most productions).

Jellydots (Sweet lesbian grandmas <3).

Tumblejem 

-This is my self-projection asexual pairing, leave me alone lol. They give me bestie vibes and I love that for them <3.  

Platoriateazer 

-This is a bit of a rarepair, but it is one of my main ships, I see Teazer and Plato as platonic partners and Tori as their mutual gf. Alternatively, I like Victeazer and Platoria on their own as well, although I like Victeazer a bit more than Platoria, but I prefer them all together.

And that’s about it for my “main” pairings, here’s a list of my alternate pairings/rarepairs that I love too much for my own good.

Alternate Pairings/Rarepairs:

Demandra 

-No longer my main blog’s url, but they have their own blog now and therefore are still ridiculously important to me XD. This is my fave rarepair, and might also be even MORE of a self-projection asexual pairing for me than they were before. I’ll say it once, this is my ultimate comfort pairing. 

Plonzostrap (Plato/Alonzo/Munkustrap, alternatively, I like Alonzostrap and Plonzo on their own as well, although I haven’t put that much thought into Munklato on its own).

Platoricopat (Cats Zurich got me obsessed with this concept, and @whitmerule’s gifs are are just *chef’s kiss*).

George/Etcetera/Electra 

-I don’t really have a ship name for this, and also this particular pairing is very complicated and I’ll try to explain it as best I can. George and Etcetera are romantic partners, Etcetera and Electra are queer-platonic partners (I see Electra as aromantic), and George and Electra are platonic partners. This is technically a main pairing for me, but it’s sort of rare and complicated in its dynamics so I put it down here. Also, I adopted the hc that George is a Pollicle btw.

Oh and just as an aside, I also really like Elecctera and Etceorge on their own, but I probably slightly prefer Elecctera, I just love the queer-platonic besties vibes of them <3. 

Mungocavity (This is in a scenario where Macavity is less evil and more of a dumbass, but I really like this pairing. It would be one of my main pairings if my main universe Macavity wasn’t complete shit).  

Jemtoria

-One of my newer ships, I usually see Tori and Jem as being somewhat far apart in age, so this is in a scenario where Jem’s a bit aged up and Tori’s a bit aged down. I love everything about this pairing. Considering how much Jem and Tori interact with each other in the show, this ship has so much potential to me. They’re just so soft and they make me really happy <3. 

Tuggoffeleteazer

-Once upon time I didn’t think I’d ever ship Tugger or Misto with really anyone but each other, but times change. Initially, I got very interested in the idea of Rumpletugger (which I still quite like on it’s own), but then later became intrigued by the idea of Mistoteazer (and all the shenanigans they’d get up to, both being mischievous and chaotic), so of course this led to me just putting all three of them together XD. I love this trio so much, they just give “bestie vibes ONLY” type of energy, and feel like a super chaotic friend group, and that makes me really happy. 

Bombbella

-I’m not even sure how to explain what led me to becoming so attached to this ship XD. I had seen people mention it being a neat concept in passing, but I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who actually truly ships them. I basically got into this ship through my “Jellicle leader Griz” au thing, which is an au where Griz is the oldest of Deuteronomy’s children and was expected to become the next Jellicle leader. She’s much younger in this au than how I typically see her, so the newer Griz design fits well in this scenario. I just got really into the idea of Griz and Bomba being tragic ex-lovers. 

They dated for a long time in their teens, broke up for a few years, and then got back together again when they had matured, and then Griz went and abandoned the tribe (as well as Bomba) to see the world and pursue her dream of being a star. Griz returned eventually, but the damage had been done, and Bomba was far from ready to forgive her. In the end though, she does forgive Griz, as does everyone else, but then Griz goes on to be reborn, and they miss their chance at happily being together. It’s just all in all a really fun concept for me to play around with, and has so much angst potential. 

Jellycass

-Not a new ship, quite the opposite actually. This is a ship that I usually don’t think much about (hence why it wasn’t here when I first made this list), but whenever I do, I always feel at peace inside lol. I can’t for the life of me find the post that got me into this ship (trust me, I have searched ALL over tumblr for it, I looked through both Jellylorum’s and Cassandra’s ENTIRE tags and still couldn’t find it), but I saw a post when I was first getting into the Cats fandom that talked about how Jelly and Cass would be this sort of “odd couple” that the tribe didn’t really understand, but clicked super well with each other for some reason. 

Even though I only ever saw that one post on them for a long time, I grew really attached to the ideas it presented for Jellycass. I like the age gap concept in particular, with my personal idea of it being Cass in her late twenties to early thirties, and Jelly being in her late thirties to early forties. It really heightens the “odd couple” energy of them, and I can see Cass getting along really well with someone older. Troika provides me all the rights for this ship <3. 

Some Extra Stuff:

Even though I like Platoria as an individual ship, and ship them to a degree, I’m not super interested in them. They’re a bit bland for me if I’m being honest. I like seeing them on my dash, but I won’t actively seek out content of them, so please don’t tag me in stuff surrounding them if you don’t mind (obviously this doesn’t apply to their poly equivalent). I used to include Demestrap in this section, but now I’m really not all that fond of them, I really only like them together in a poly scenario, like Demebombastrap or even Demelonzostrap. 

There’s a bunch of ships that I categorize as “I like it, but I don’t ship it,” and that’s where ships like Munkujerrie and Alonzoffelees fall. They’re ships that I enjoy as concepts, and that I would probably read fanfic about if given the opportunity (and like fanart of), but I don’t necessarily ship them. So you don’t need to tag me for them. 

The only ships that I just straight up don’t like, although I have nothing against people who like them, are Tuggerlurina, Mistoria, Skimbledots, and Jellygus, Tuggerlurina being the one I dislike the most. I just scroll past content of them if I see it on my dash, I thought I should probably list them here cause idk, might be useful to @whitmerule to know which ships I really don’t like. 

Note: I don’t see any of the characters I listed here as being biologically related, some people hc Deme and Bomba as sisters, or Etcetera and Electra as being twins, I don’t see this personally (In fact I have a whole bunch of family hcs that I’ll probably save for another post, if anyone even wants to read that lol). 

And now for my favorite 2019 movie pairings (which I also don’t see any of them as being biologically related), because they’re sort of relevant since I’m listing pairings and stuff so I feel like putting them here too:

2019 Movie Main Pairings

Mistoriastraps 

-This is the ONLY scenario where I like Misto and Tori together. I only like it when it’s in the 2019 movie, and only if it’s with Munk, those are my two requirements lol. I think Munktoria and Munkoffelees are really cute too, but I don’t care for them that much, I like them best all together.

Demandra (I see their relationship very differently in the movie, and I prefer their stage-show relationship, but as always, I love them). 

Tantojerrie 

-I know they don’t really interact in the movie, but I saw people talking about them as a ship on here, and I just think they’d be really cute. Technically Tanto is implied to be kitten age in the movie, but I imagine this as a post-movie, next Jellicle Ball type scenario. I see Tanto as being on the cusp of adulthood, where she’ll probably be an adult at the next Jellicle Ball, and I see Jerrie as being a very young adult, so they’re not far apart in my mind (plus I see Jellicles, being cats and all, aging differently than humans, so this isn’t as odd to me as it might be to other people).

Lucio Upright/Reversed Theories

SPOILERS/SPECULATION BELOW THE CUT:

Is it too early for this, since we haven’t seen Book XIX yet? Is making ending theories frowned upon and I’m not aware? IDK

Everyone's discussing it, so I think they absolutely have to address it (otherwise it's going to be chalked up to a really bad writing decision), and this is ultimately the big turning point, where despite little changes in the dialogue here or there to hint at it, Judgment is ultimately where your ending... begins.

And it's here that Lucio and MC will cross paths with Muriel, and be reminded of what Lucio did. But what's more, I think Asra will likely be accompanying him (what's going to lead to them crossing paths, I'm not sure, I'm only on Book XIV of Lucio's route but I have seen a few scattered spoilers here or there). I know they briefly touched on what happened to Julian in Book XVIII (The Moon), so Book XIX (The Sun) might go more in depth into that, but I think the stuff with Muriel is ultimately going to be what’s tackled at the very end

So here's the thing. My original thought was that it might be just Muriel here, and that depending on the ending you got, Lucio would try to apologize and acknowledge what he did, even though Muriel (understandably) doesn't forgive him (UE), or would not want to acknowledge it and this would be where he runs away from Vesuvia with MC (RE). And that was ultimately where my thoughts on it had ended.

But here's where it gets interesting, especially now that Asra's theoretically here, and I think it actually would give us an expanded look on if Lucio has changed or not (again, bear in mind this is coming from the perspective of someone who hasn't seen the three most recent books for Lucio).

I think in both routes, Lucio (and by extension MC) will be faced with what he did to Muriel, and Lucio will apologize. And in both situations, Muriel will not forgive him. I think Asra may even speak up as well - he's grateful that his parents are back, but that still doesn't change the fact that (a) he grew up orphaned as a result of Lucio's actions and (b) Lucio traumatized his closest friend by forcing him to kill people.

But it's the ending that you're on that will determine how Lucio reacts.

In the Upright, he accepts what Muriel (and potentially Asra) say to him. That yes, what he did hurt them, and he regrets it and he's sorry... but at the same time, he agrees that they're correct in that they don't owe him forgiveness, and he understands their reasons behind it. But Lucio is still going to work on himself, work on saving the city, to be someone MC deserves by their side, and for now he just wants them all to work together to stop this threat. And Asra and Muriel agree, Morga will probably show up along the way to fight alongside her son rather than save his ass, commence boss fight.

In the Reversed, he rejects what Muriel said about not forgiving him - what do you mean you don't forgive me, I've changed, I'm trying to be the hero this city needs! And now Asra speaks up about how he also can't forgive what Lucio did, probably with a lot more vitriol. And then MC argues back, something along the lines of 'your parents wouldn't even be here right now if it wasn't for Lucio', but Asra's firmly still on Muriel's side. Maybe some more arguing/bickering, before Lucio declares that he's a great warrior, MC's the *best* magician in the city, and they're absolutely capable of handling the Devil without their help. Spoilers: they're not. They both put up a good fight, but MC goes down, Lucio fights tooth and nail to protect them, clearly also on the brink of defeat... but Morga steps in, once again saving her son (and by extension, MC), and gives him enough of a window to escape with MC as they pass out.

In the Reversed epilogue, MC wakes up still recovering from the battle but alive, much to Lucio's relief. Morga's fate will likely be left unknown, but I think it'd be interesting if somehow Lucio knows she's still alive in Vesuvia, or at the very least he speculates that's the case (we'll get to why later). Maybe he even goes back into exaggerating how he really has come a long way, because he was able to fight off any assailant that came his way while getting MC out of there! But they're together, they're alive, they're out of Vesuvia, and they'll go find a new city to make their own.

Some people have speculated that in the Upright Ending, Lucio and MC would depart from Vesuvia. Others think he would technically still be Count, with MC now at his side, and Nadia could return to Prakra. I've even seen speculation that Lucio would accept death and part with MC or they’d both pass on together, but I highly doubt that one because the endings all seem to be in agreement that ultimately you and your LI are still together, whether the circumstances are happy or not (could that change? Potentially). But I think the Upright epilogue would be Lucio staying in Vesuvia, but stepping down as Count. HOWEVER, he is still going to take responsibility in helping improve the city. Nadia's in charge now, but if she needs him to help map out some aqueducts, deliver food to the hungry, assist with labor in rebuilding homes and buildings... he'll do it. Some people still frown upon him for his actions in his past, others are supportive of him working to make things better. And, okay, maybe he'll occasionally grumble about missing his fancy wardrobe, the parties in his honor, and personal chefs to cook whatever exquisite cuisine he's craving. But he lived without that stuff in the past, and more importantly - at the end of the day, he can come home to his beloved MC, and that's worth more to him than any palace or title. Though Asra's still not happy about Lucio, he remains friends with MC. Morga is content to depart the city knowing that her son seems to finally have his shit together. How will Mercedes, Melchior, and Camio adapt to life in the shop? You tell me.

What I like about my Reversed idea is that it still gives us Lucio just putting up the facade of being a hero, still having the mindset of "me and MC against the world" (as seen in what is likely his Reversed confession), Morga still having to save her son, Lucio once again running away from his oopsies, the MC technically being 'corrupted' by Lucio, and Asra once again being a complex character by having a little bit of a darker side show. Yes, he loves MC, but they love Lucio now, so why shouldn't he double down on taking sides with his closest friend? (note: no discourse about romantic vs platonic love and one shouldn't take priority over the other please)

What I like about my Upright idea is I feel like it holds Lucio accountable - he doesn't get to rule and make decisions for the city anymore, but he can't just run away and leave it behind. Nadia is once again going to be a good countess for the city! Morga gets some closure! Though it's rougher, Asra and MC are still friends! Maybe he even makes an offhand comment about how Muriel had to help a servant girl from the palace who got lost in the forest looking for her cat, but now she goes and exchanges veggies with him for eggs or will just come by to visit and he seems a little happier lately (smug_asra.png) and this sentence is too long but dude my rarepair just became canon???

In one ending, Morga stays and Lucio leaves, Vesuvia's fate is unknown, and a friendship is ruined. In the other, Lucio stays and Morga leaves, Vesuvia's fate looks bright, and a friendship remains.

But no matter what, you and Lucio still have each other.

I know I’ve talked about this before but I find it so fascinating there’s so many ways people approach shipping.

Most of my ships I just happen to be consuming some media and think to myself, hm! I like whatever is going on there! Sometimes I get influenced by friends/artists but for the most part I just kinda go with whatever attracts me. And of course to me there’s always so much potential, I can see the appeal between various connections and what they can bring between different characters. I loved characters together that literally no one else cares about and have mixed matched more ways than I can count.

My friend likes [Ship A] with [Character 1] and [Character 2]. Chances are it’s a popular ship, therefore she can find a lot of content. I might mention [Character 2] is also interesting with [Character 3] for [Ship B]. Sure, she might agree, but ultimately [Ship A] is the more interesting ship so therefore the only ship for her for that set of characters and won’t ship anyone else with them cuz it ‘feels wrong’. She might have multiple ships in a series, but they don’t cross over.’ She either feels very strongly for a ship or not at all. I don’t think she’s ever surprised me with a rarepair.

Then of course there’s people who have like, definitely an OTP of a series and maaaybe like a few others here and there. Maybe. But that ship is the ship for them and they’re good.

And again people who won’t touch ot3s at all?? There’s too many hands!!! I’m going to link them all together, who cares.

OTP - I will draw it and I will dig through to find content. Love it - Will draw it here and there, will dip in the tag if the mood strikes. Like it - Miiiiight draw it for myself? It’s Alright - Probably will only draw it on requests, it’s not an active ship interest of mine, only reblog if I really like the piece. ‘Ship-In-Laws’ probably at this level too, when I know way too much about a ship because a close friend really likes it so I share content to them that i find. Ehhhh - I can see the appeal if I squint, but probably not going to get any interest out of me. Will probably skip it as a request.

Idc what other people are shipping, whether its popular or not. I think Sam/beth was the only one fandom influenced me on but it’s always just kinda been a filler ship. There have been a few ships I liked initially but the fandom just...grinds on my nerves with them. If I like an artists style I’ll def follow them regardless of what ships they like. Again, most of the artists I follow idk even what series they’re drawing but it’s pretty, so, here I am. Really funny how many artists I am stumbling into their old fandoms late.

But yeah some of my friends I feel like take it too serious! They have very rigid things they’re looking for. I like to like things. But I also don’t feel the need to push myself into liking anything. I never go into anything with the intent to ship really. Most things I do not care. Romance is usually badly written but I do love me a good canon one. Different pairings have different dynamics!

It’s also so stupid that I can see two characters being dumb softies together and I’m like, yeah, that’s the good stuff :)

Mod Echo: I’m fond of the “Kaminari is the traitor” theory just because Kaminari is cool but like he could be even cooler with a shadowy past, and Toga and Kaminari would just be amazing to see together in general. I feel like these two are a pair I would not want to meet in a dark alley. @_@

Mod Echo: Yesss, let’s continue to further the Shinsou agenda… I think there’s so much good stuff that could happen in a ship like this--they both have elements of their quirks that they hesitate to use or don’t view as heroic, so finding a way to make their quirks into something they love and feel great about TOGETHER is just flawless.

We all know Toshinko is A+ but man, I feel like Naomasa’s calm and just generally kind demeanor is a great match for Inko too. This was a great idea for acquiring new ships....

I’ve beta’d for @breakthestrutura some and reread her stranger things fics and atla/fma fics she’s gifted me. I know I’ve read fics I’ve liked, but I rarely save them and rarely reread anything. I write down a page length summary of the whole story most of the time, if I remember to, but sometimes they just live in my head. I’ve had an idea for like 3 years and for some reason I just keep forgetting to write down a summary. But I think about it so often that forgetting hasn’t been an issue so far.

I haven’t.

16. How did you discover FFNet/AO3?

Don’t remember. I think I made friends with some authors and probably clicked a link to their stories and then thought hey I should try that too.  I also know I was resistant to ao3 for the longest time, not sure why, and now I don’t ever go on FF unless it’s to look at my account.

No, you actually have to write things to get popular.

18. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?

Plot it out, probably too much. But most of the basics of my stories come to me right away and I can’t really help that. Not that I want to. I like knowing where my story is going.

Not many. And they were more annoying than outright mean. Most were for This Love - people who thought I was going to write Malia to be an asshole and/or not including her in the story enough, or worried I was going to put Stiles with the girl they didn’t like. Stuff like that. I wanted them to keep reading, so I tried to put some of their minds at ease so they would eventually realize their assumptions were wrong.

20. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)

Transitional scenes, where nothing that interesting is happening but just getting to the next big scene. And yeah, smut, I feel so awkward. I’m too ace for that.

At the beginning of this quarantine I actually got myself to write a bit, almost every night for like 2 weeks. It’s just a Matt Murdock/Jessica Jones thing that I’ll never finish. But it was nice while it lasted.

Like I said, I never finish anything, so I’m always moving on to a new thing.

Sometimes I feel like I’ve gotten worse, since I’m so out of practice. But I’ve been writing stories since I was a little kid so I’ve definitely improved since those days of course.

This Love since it’s my only chapter fic and somehow I managed to finish it, even when it seemed like I never would. I'm just proud I finished it tbh. I like a lot of my others but also this feels like a weird question - I don’t think of my stories as amazing or anything, they just have plots i’m interested in.

Idk, some of my Teen Wolf drabbles, I guess. Like, they’re fine.

27. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?

I’d like to get myself to actually commit to trying to write a book (yeah, not even writing a book, but getting myself to even TRY). But I probably won’t. If not that then I hope I pick up writing fic again at least.

Ideas and plotting. Yeah, sometimes I get stuck on the how or small details but like I said, stories come to me mostly fully formed.

I don’t think Eru is evil or anything like that. i think the valar can’t really understand the Children and their conflicts come from that - idk about Eru, though, we don’t see a lot of him. he seems very powerful and absent, i guess? he only really intervenes when the situation is Truly Dire and then he shows more of a force of unimaginable power than like, divine mercy or anything

Favourite AU setting?i really like the two-steps-to-the-left-of-canon AU settings where everything is juuuusst slightly more magical than it is in canon and things like wraiths and revivification are more commonplace. that may be cheating though so i got to say that i’m always here for scifi/space AUs! (normally i’d go right to modern AU but i feel like because of lifespans, modern AUs fall apart with the silm unless you’re going very small-scale with them)

Favourite crack pairing/concept/headcanon?“crack” is weird in the silm because of the dubious canonosity of Literally Everything... my fav ~crack~ pairing is probably turgon/finrod but that has evolved from “crack” to “rarepair hell” for me lmao. i also really love @princess-faelivrin‘s fin-galad headcanon! and i am currently daydreaming about some way that nienor is connected to goldberry - oh and tar-miriel as the witch-king is always a good one. really, anything that keeps the ladies alive for longer!

First, Second or Third Age?i mean they all have their good parts, but like... first age, probably. third age has gigolas and all the characters from the hobbit, which is tempting, but there’s just so MUCH to work with in the first age! second age is neat too but i’m not really a numenor person so...

Who is Gil-galad’s father?i’m throwing my hat in the ring for Orodreth, but that’s only when i don’t want to make it like, a Thing. i really love explorations of this uncertainty (@elvntari‘s gil-galad fic springs to mind, as does @thishazeleyeddemon‘s lalwen theory, maybe with cirdan as the dad, and fin-galad is again a blessed concept) and i’m also very fond of the idea that his parentage is “no one in particular” and that he just stepped forward to claim the throne when no one else wanted it. really i’m open to every interpretation! except fingon. i don’t think it’s fingon. i mean, it could very well be that fingon is his dad as in he’s the one who raised him and claimed him, but if we’re going biologically i don’t think fingon contributed any genetic material to gil-galad

Angbang, Russingon or Silvergifting?i mean this is a no-brainer. of course it’s russingon! i do enjoy angbang and silvergifting, but like cmon.one of these days i’d love to write a really long angbang fic detailing everything btwn them, probably mostly from mairon’s pov, from ainulindale to the fourth age but that would be an undertaking. i do have a lot of tiny ideas for them that would be fun to weave together. as for silvergifting, just...poor tyelpe. poor dude. but i am suuuuch a slut for russingon lmao.

What would you most like to see in a tv series or film based on the Silmarillion?i would LOVE to see a book-accurate version but like. that’s VERY unlikely. a COH adaptation would be neat but probably too dark to make it to audiences without being seriously watered down. Beren and Luthien might be able to do it, if they could condense the supporting lore around the story. that’s really the problem with the silm - it’s like a greek myth in it’s epic sprawl. there’s so much story that you can’t really take just one aspect of it to the screen without taking all of it. if you don’t know about the silmarils you can’t do B&L, if you don’t know about the nirnaeth and the histories of nargothrond and doriath you can’t do COH, if you don’t know about the sundering and the exiles you can’t do literally anything tbh.BUT i would love a COH adaptation, if it’s done right. or a very ~experimental~ take on B&L. i have a lot of ideas of how to incorporate all the different versions of that story into one cohesive canon... ok i admit it i just want to see telvido on screen!!! and also werewolves are neat!!

also i’ve said it before but a 3-act play set in numenor....HMM that would be some good hsit. really, i think the mariner’s wife would make an excellent drama, but again there’s so much CONTEXT around numenor!the 3 acts would be 1. elros’s transformation into tar-minyatur (there’s so many possibilities to explore! it’s basically uncharted waters once you get to the details!) 2. the mariner’s wife (a pretty faithful adaptation, also tar-meneldur’s monologue when he passes the scepter on to aldarion is just. WRITTEN to be performed on stage imo) and 3. akallabeth (again, lots of ways this could go. i also think it would be really neat to double cast elros and pharazon. and sauron should be double cast too, though idk who as.)

I feel like what I should do is make a wishlist! below the cut are ships I’d like to write / ideas in general that I’d like to write for each character. HEADS UP, it’s mainly ships and nothing too substantial ghjgfhjsjds i’m bad with coming up with thread ideas w/o knowing what muse it’ll be with. but there’s a few vague ideas in there.

hoo boy after that trailer this is a lot to think about, mainly because I haven’t written her that much and I haven’t gotten much of a feel for my portrayal in particular.

bUT i’m way open to talking about it! I’ve noticed she’s the muse that’s probably gotten the most attention here. to my surprise. I kind of just added her bc I felt like I could probably pull her off. now I’m unsure. I feel pressure. there’s so many amazing Twis.

I really really really wanna write some TwiPie, funnily enough that’s probably my most wanted thing with her rn. That’s just one of my favorite ships, and I think it’d be cute and interesting to see how it goes. 

other favorite ships are Twixie and TwiLuna, not itching as much to write those for some reason, but I figured it’s worth mentioning. but Twilight ships in general are pretty damn good.

other than that, same goes for Starlight, I’m open to discussing anything.

i think I’ll need to see how season 9 goes before I have more specific ideas on where to take her, so as of rn I’d mainly prefer to just write before that until it happens and I know all the context. 

Rainbow Dash

she’s another one I added bc I felt like I’d be able to handle her, but I really love her as a character, so of course yes she’s here. 

would jump at the chance for some FlutterDash probably, bc I like it a lot, but I could write it with her or my Shy. doesn’t really matter.

other than that, any ship, really, she’s very shippable. my dash is of course a flaming lesbian tho i will say that. most of my muses are bi / pan but idk. dash just. girls.

I do want to just write more of her in general. She hasn’t gotten a lot of love here. Give the Wonderbolt some love. Not too much tho it might go to her head.

Fluttershy

mainly though I think I’d most like to write Rarishy. besides FlutterDash. and like. again. I can do either end of that. Rarishy’s a big want for some reason.

platonic Fluttercord is my shit! I love them! I don’t really ship it anymore for reasons mainly regarding the fandom, but anything can happen I guess. It really just depends if she clicks with a particular Discord enough. it’s just not something I’ll probably want to do right away if ever. I’m cool with Discords who have a crush on her tho, just know as of rn mine doesn’t see him in a romantic light. Just a best friend.

stuff with the animal sanctuary! they haven’t really mentioned that again I don’t think, but I really liked that idea.

Fluttershy is one of the characters that made me make this blog, bc I really wanted to write her but not enough to give her her own blog. so if you throw literally anything at Fluttershy I’ll probably never be mad. I like writing her.

alright. so I love Rarity. but I added her later bc I always felt like I wouldn’t write her well. but the lack of Rarity here makes me depressed, so I decided I’d like to try my best!!!

Luke (in childhood) - mostly, I think, for his moments of Extra, such as: a) the choice to take death-by-abyss over Vader’s offer, b) his black outfit, with its aura of faux-mystery (the product of brooding over Vader, it seemed), c) the fact that he Force-chokes his way into Jabba’s palace d) and that his solution to killing the Rancor is to send a barbed gate into its windpipe, e) the showiness of his flying kick on Jabba’s barge, f) how he reaches for Vader’s hand not long after having chopped one of them off

Mamá Coco - the beauty and dignity of great age, all of the implied little acts of resistance she’s hinted at having taken throughout her lifetime, strewn throughout the house

Harry - I think what instantly endeared me to him is his resilience, what one might even call spite - the way his hair grows back after Petunia cuts it shorter than he wants, for instance, and then the sheer nerve, the cheekiness of some of his responses to adults - the constant presence of repressed or unacknowledged wells of emotion beneath the calm surface. I learned a lot about what I like in a narrator from him, because he’s highly observant but completely unreliable, often coming to realizations with great belatedness

The character you never expected to love so much:

Leia - I remember seeing ESB in theaters as a child and being inexplicably drawn to the shot of her watching the blast doors close, to her eyes - feeling a sense of such longing it almost hurt. But I didn’t like her romantic subplot and totally lost interest after her bikini scene. It took far sharper eyes than my own to realize just how complex she can be, and years to recognize in her grief, in her struggles, in her determination, in her resistance just what it was that had sparked that initial response

Imelda - she reminds me almost uncannily of my real Dominican grandmother, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to think about her too closely at the beginning. But she’s emerged to me as That Kind of Character I love to write about - headstrong, resentful, masked, walled on the outside; she’s open to many metaphorical readings as well. Cheech, Victoria, and Elena have also grown on me to a surprising degree

one of the great joys of Potter is that nearly every character has a remarkably skewed perspective. I kind of love the cast as a whole - from weirdos like Aberforth and Filch and the Lovegoods to the worst-ever purebloods to Lily and the Marauders - and over time have found the adults especially fun to think through, not least because of how settled-in-their-ways and batshit some of them have become

The character you relate to the most:

I’m going to rephrase this as “the character perspective you find most rewarding to write”, because that’s how I relate to characters --

Vader - because anger! and a journey! because he’s a sad but hilarious murderbot! have explained the fascination a bit here

Héctor - he’s a trickster, immensely changeable and fluid, and yet also caught in something of a traumatic loop, one both of his own making and not. He's in some way the character who can cross every boundary but the one he wants to cross, or rather who has to cross all kinds of boundaries, who keeps crossing boundaries despite being denied passage to the one place he wants to be by an apparatus that regards him as an outsider. There’s lots one can also do with him to think about class relations, about the history of the twentieth century, about time more generally (time in music, time in poetry), about language (he’s a poet). And on a psychological level, he’s got all the baggage I love: guilt, shame, persistence in desperation, a particular form of good-natured obliviousness that has a way of getting in the way of clear communication on his end and also of setting him up for betrayal

Snape - he’s a miserably depressed, endlessly spiteful, hopelessly guilt-ridden young teacher who can’t keep his anger or his tongue in check, is ridiculously partial to the sort of rich prat who helped ruin his life in the first place, is obsessed to the most obsessive degree with Harry and his parents, is probably on a whole bucketload of potions to get through the day, is physically a total mess, and gets to wield some of the most cutting sarcasm in the books - of course his perspective is a riot

The character you’d slap:

other than Anakin? or Padmé? probably Obi-Wan pre-ROTS. Which is not to say that I don’t love him (love his sass especially); more that there are things he does in TPM and AOTC that remind me too much of real people - of bad teachers I know. Much could have been avoided without his grudge in TPM, with a franker acknowledgement of the fact that his charge looked up to him as a father and not as a brother and was vulnerable to predation from those who could see the disconnect. The difference a sharper ear for tone ( “I do my best, Master”) might have made . . . not unlike Snape, he’s a poster-boy for bad teaching, and in a very different way from Snape, he’s arrogant and fairly privileged at the same time. That he’s never called out on his behavior until it’s far too late is harrowingly realistic

Ernesto - boy becomes a media star and yet has never heard of communication, apparently. if he’d simply asked Héctor to write him songs from home, the entire mess might have been avoided

Snape deserves to be in this category, but I think the character I’d want to actually slap is Draco Malfoy - just - i mean

A character you liked at first but don’t anymore:

I still love Luke, so this isn’t quite the response being asked for, but I also don’t seek him out, don’t want to write about him. As a kid, I devoured pretty much every Luke-Vader story out there; now, when encountering Luke-Vader, I confess I struggle to muster interest if Leia (or Ahsoka, or some other female character) isn’t present

this movie hasn’t been out long enough for that, I think . . . 

Hermione is a character I adore still, but as with Luke, she’s no longer for me what she was as a child, when she was my role model - idk, I love a lot of the qualities in her that tend to be overlooked in fic, her brutality for instance, her more hidden impulses - how much she wants to belong, how much her marriage says about her structural needs and wants (love Ron, btw, another totally under-appreciated character). I think she’s super interesting, if not in her prescribed role as the know-it-all ex-machina. As the character used to always playing that role and under pressure to remain in that role, however, she’s fascinating

Three OTPs: 

Leia + Vader gen, of which there is not nearly enough in this world - Vader spends two films chasing / capturing her, Leia spends two films escaping / defying him, he doesn’t want her dead because she can lead him to things he wants, she absolutely wants him dead and is driven to lead by her hatred for him, they’re extreme versions of each other and understand each other extremely well as a result, possibly are even drawn to each other, if only to really hurt each other - you bet I want to see this dynamic further explored

Héctor/Imelda - guilt-fest, psychological drama ahoy, plus they’re musicians, connected through time and language

aside from the stuff I somehow avoid like the plague (H/G, Drarry, anything with Voldemort), I’d read pretty much anything with an interesting narrator. Rarepairs are where it’s at for me in Potter, tbh
