illario as the grandchild that is most like caterina is something i'm loving to chew on. the grandson that took her lessons to heart the most. kill anyone who sees your face and knows your name, "we are not revolutionaries", the first out of the two to prioritise the contract. power at any cost, and the only one to lean into the unnecessary abuse that their grandmother told them was tradition. why is anyone surprised he allied with the venatori? and then there's illario's considerable skill in infiltration and manipulating any mark, he has always had the charisma that lucanis lacked. illario isn't attached, he has/can/will use someone and immediately drop them; "that does free me from promises i don't intend to keep". he can lie about how much he cares so well that he fools a magister into believing he loves her. he kills zara without hesitation to cover his own tracks, meanwhile lucanis blindly promises a young girl in the middle of a siege that he will help her find her father. even the lessons about family stick with him, and in this entire messy power struggle, he never actually orders anyone to directly kill caterina or lucanis, not until he's backed into a corner.

and even after all that. despite even lucanis believing illario should be first talon, lucanis is still the better killer. illario is not strong enough to be the brutal assassin caterina needs him to be. so when lucanis seems to fill the role his mother left, grief and love for her dead heir apparent remains, and any of the other qualities caterina needs in her next talon doesn't matter. whatever his mother was, lucanis has to be. what illario does doesn't matter, because he will always be second best to caterina's memory of her favored daughter.

#<- guy who's only seen succession: this is just like shiv and logan #last point is kind of meta and hcish. idk how much caterina cared about her children and lucanis' mother. grain of salt everyone #but it would make sense to me. woman projecting her grief so hard it fucks up the next generation #at the end of the day realistically the best person to lead this criminal organisation is the sweet talker with no morals #who can rally their assassins and negotiate his way out of anything #not lucanis 'this crow has a heart' dellamorte. who i think would also be a fairer leader but #well. his leadership style would take a decidedly different turn. is that something he can afford as first talon??? like you know.#THE ASSASSIN GUILD? WITH THE VERY BLEAK HISTORY? life is hard for us oz fans who are only meh about wicked. have half a meme.

#it's not even that i dislike boq as a character - he's fine. i think galinda is the most intriguing of the musical esp in her relationship #with power and how that relates to her relationships with other people. but boq is fine #i am just SO fucking tired of conflating boq wicked with nick chopper baum books #that's not my tin woodman. and i don't want him to be. nick (unlike many oz characters) has a very specific and set backstory #he has a whole damn book about it ffs #and boq is such a different character in terms of role symbolism and personality that i just cannot see him as even an au version of nick #fiyero too to be completely honest. though his mischaracterization doesn't bother me quite as much bc i read the book and he is rather #intriguing as a separate character - i don't love him in the musical tho. anyways specifically calling boq the tin woodman and saying #all the baum book stuff happened to him is so irritating to me because they are not at all the same. and nick is one of my favorite charas #in any media ever. idk. no hate if you like boq ofc and i don't want to stop you from having fun with the characters #i just am getting tired of the greater oz fandom latching on to wicked as fleshing out the baum or mgm characters. it's an entirely #different world. the veilguard curse.....i just want to play older bioware games; ALSO small rant where i really started losing hope in the story

I HATE GAMES....that make you go through a dialogue tree only to leave you with only ONE option to choose. i am thinking of one conversation with solas where rook's final and only option of dialogue is "I will do whatever it takes" or whatever and UGHHHH

I HATE THAT especially when i'm trying to run a character that would NEVER say that???

ugh i love roleplay games that make you play a character you didn't at all make /sarcasm

this is just an excuse to make a post about how rambert would never "do whatever it takes", he won't lie even to save face or earn trust.

I am genuinely sorry for people who aren't enjoying this game but I am having a ball in this bitch.

#does it do everything i wanted? no.#does it do things I actively dislike? yes.#but the good parts of it are so overwhelming good and an improvement over the last game to me that Im really really #happy with it regardless!#and just like every past game all the things I dont like or that werent touched on will become my own personal playground for HCs and AUs #i love the characters to pieces and the exploration is by far my favorite in the series #i also love how theyve brought back little aspects from origins and 2 that were unfortunately lost in DAI #the game is gorgeous and the character creator is amazing and the lighting is improved and dialogue tones are back and the hairs!!#idk #there are many aspects where I feel like I certainly was not the target demographic for this game (wrt story and lore) but #i am enjoying it nonetheless and will definitely be replaying multiple times!💗#jun rambles
