Hi gang I’m back on my Caleb x Zayne x Sylus college band au

I have decided to make Zayne a literature nerd instead of my original compsci idea (mostly because idk anything abt compsci and I’m too lazy to research but also doesn’t Zayne strike you as someone who would’ve done literature if he didn’t go to med school?) it just suits him better methinks.

And since I love and I mean ADORE Luke and Kieran SO much they’re also making an appearance as Sylus’ cute chaotic baby brothers! Same age difference, he’s 23, they’re 13, and Sylus is their doting older brother and pretty much their parental figure (they don’t have parents :( aww)

Anyways I’m thinking wholesome family dynamics with them WAAAAY later down the line because 1) slooooowwwwww burn 2) Sylus never tells anyone about his personal life, not even Caleb and Zayne despite how close they got but one day he does end up confiding in them and they’re like “Sylus you madman why didn’t you tell us before” and then after school hours they let the twins hang around for band practice and they all bond with each other

Ya know like Caleb teaching Luke how to play the drums or something, Kieran is glued to Zayne for some reason and Sylus just looks at them and he’s like “life is so much easier now, shit. Should’ve done this before” and he realises that sharing your woes does make the burden lighter and they’re all enjoying each other’s company so much too. Sylus gets a break from taking care of those two. Caleb and Zayne are more than happy to babysit them.

And Sylus, the man that he is…. A very overprotective older brother, if you mess with Luke and Kieran you should start running immediately. He’s usually calm smug and level headed until it comes to his babies. This facet of his personality is so very charming to Zayne and Caleb, who absolutely SWOON when they see him taking care of them.

One time some asshole tried messing with the boys. They all saw. Before Zayne and Caleb even processed what happened, Sylus was already there, knocked the guy out cold on the pavement, spat on him and turned away to check on Luke and Kieran who ran into his arms, and he hugged them patting their heads

Zayne and Caleb could only just watch in awe, a little scared, quite endeared and very turned on.

“Lord have mercy, did you see that?”

“Gods, holy shit, I did, I did”

They both speak, eyes glued on Sylus, who catches them staring so shamelessly. He’s completely oblivious to how hot that was. To him, it was just him being him. To them, it seemed like they just witnessed God himself descend from the heavens.

And I’m also thinking of like putting some tender moments in there with Sylus and Luke and Kieran as in idk maybe they have a nightmare or something and Sylus hears his bedroom door open slowly

“Bad dream?” They both nod. Wordlessly he lifts his blanket and they both crawl in on either side as he put his arms around them

“It’s ok, you’re with me, you’re safe” he says and gently pats their heads reassuringly. And they do feel safe with him. So they drift off soon enough.

Okay so im gonna be honest, tamsand is not my forte, tamcien and nyxlin are where I get the most output so please don't expect a lot from me, I'm probably gonna be of very little help in this one.

I actually use another ship to draw inspiration for tamsand, idk if you've seen the show Transformers Prime but the ship Optimus Prime ( or Orion pax ) and Megatron is VERY tamsand coded. ( and Optimus x Ratchet is VERY tamcien coded )

Like they both were best friends and everything until Megatron let the anger fuel him and his ideologies started to be more violent in nature causing harm to the others around him and ultimately leading to the demise of his relationship with Orion.

That's how I veiw tamsand, like there's always gonna be a "what if things went differently" for them, they had the potential to be happy but it was doomed from the start. They tried very hard to be different but the circumstances and their reactions to them tore them apart.

For hcs :

Tamlin and Rhysand probably met as kids and were very apprehensive of each other at first but maybe they got scolded by a parent, etc which made them bond and realise they were in the same situations and that's how their friendship started.

Tamsand saw each other only at high lord banquets and sometimes even sneaked off together to hide from their families and they found comfort in each other.

I think rhysand developed feelings for tamlin first ( and tamlin reciprocated them very later on ) while they were in teens but tried to suppress it because he was scared tam wouldn't feel the same & their families were a problem but as their friendship grew and tamlin asked rhysand to teach him war Tactics and training rhysand selfishly didn't refuse him because he wanted tamlin in whatever way tamlin offered himself.

That's the crux of their relationship I believe, like the way rhysand acts in canon is maybe because he knows that their relationship is beyond repair so the only way to have tamlin in ANY way is to antagonize him and be an asshole to him because he doesn't know how to fix things and neither does tamlin.

He basically craves Tamlin's company in whatever way he can have it.

As for tamlin ( & rhysand ) he feels like like he should hate rhysand but he just CANT like in the way you know you want to choke someone but also caress the bruises you leave behind, the love they once had acts a shield between them stopping them from hating each other completely.

It's just SO SO complex and layered like you have to peel everything back to even grasp a fraction of what they mean to the other, which ig is why I've only ever written one fic about them.

Also also rhysand HATES when tamlin gets a new partner because how dare tamlin have someone else while he still hasn't moved on ? That's probably why he was so horrible to feyre and Lucien imo. They became a hindrance in his erotic angsty relationship.

They both have a lot of self loathing but rhysand is better at channeling that energy into assholeness ( like he did in acosf or acofas i don't remember ) and masking it as pity when he does in fact care about tamlins well being ( re : when he procured a steak for tamlin )

Tamlin just tends to fall in a loophole of how he could've been better and the possibilities haunt him endlessly and he becomes very full of self hatred and ends up ruining things around him just to feel SOMETHING other than this aching anger and pain that won't go away.

I'm probably gonna Yap too much and i do have lots more to add but i havent slept all day and had to run errands in the heat wave and i have a migrane so that held me back, apologies for making it cumbersome for you to read if I haven't already, again I'm really sorry if I wasn't of much help :(

ALSO I JUST HAD THIS HC RN but Tamsand are dumb asf and think they loved the other more than they loved them and their hatred for each other stems from that too, maybe rhysand holds a grudge because he thinks he didn't mean as much to tam as he did to him and he's heartbroken over that and vice versa.

Also I think tamlin would be able to find love in the future with someone else but rhysand can't, I'm basing this off canon ( or whatever I remember of it ) like the guy has a literal mate, a group of friends the whole shebang but he STILL can't seem to leave tamlin alone like sir ??? He's clearly not over it.

sharing my thoughts under the cut for those of you who felt let down (spoilers for the last dance, obviously) (long)

a friend of mine, despite loving the movie, felt disappointed by how the movie handled venom and eddies relationship and lack of explicit queerness. and yet, upon discussing it with me, there is so much there. if you feel disappointment, please consider:

-the way they behaved with each other: constant contact intimacy, licking his face, fixing up his clothes, venom constantly fussing over Eddie, always talking and chatting in his head.

-wishing they had a slow, family life explicitly. "you'd make a good dad."

-eddie looking wistfully at a bride and groom

-venom admitting that to save eddies life in the first movie, he merged their souls. if that's not soulmates, idk what is. a soul bond so powerful that one of the most powerful beings in the universe desires it (in this version, we will just work with the movie lore for the purposes of this post, yeah?)

-the whole movie, their relationship was never in question. it was always framed as "you and me vs the world". the promise of the movie was 'eddie and venom want to get out of this situation to go and see a landmark together.' can you think of another movie of the same genre that has such a small, domestic character promise?

-speaking of genre, the fact we got an action movie so character relationship based around two characters is already groundbreaking. like, they weren't fighting to save the world, that was secondary. their primary goal was each other. they pushed the absolute boundaries of the genre all to favour telling a story about how much venom and Eddie mean to each other, not how heroic they would be if they saved the world.

like, the helicopter scene? so many unnecessary shots of just them making eye contact and crying because they start realizing that maybe it might not work out. they aren't grieving losing the battle or the fate of the world, venom knows he can fix that. that scene is them grieving the time they would lose with each other to do that.

-about the 'he is my best friend' line to leaf. in context, he was just about to reveal an alien to the boy who explicitly said he didn't want to meet one. i interpreted him saying 'he is my best friend' as a way to help the kid prepare and cope, keeping with the whole 'he is good with kids' thread that venom praised him for earlier. 'best friend' translates to 'not murderous like those other ones down there ok?' in context. if they were to make them explicit in the movies, that would not be a good scene to go it.

all of this was done in a action superhero movie. this was a relationship movie that wasn't between a hero and the girl he wants. a superhero movie without a prize love interest or even a love triangle for tension and conflict.

the last dance did so much, and even though we didn't get the last step of explicit queerness, we got everything else they needed to pull that off and they broke alot of genre tropes to do it

and i think we would all feel a bit better if we recognize that. (and my friend thought i should post this hahaha)

I got carried away and blacked out and it became 2k, idk what happened either.

Swiss is so inexperienced and very anxious and mountain is the sweetest actually. This is so awkward because these two are dorks so good luck.

Small small mentions of blood but it’s taken as a joke.

It wasn’t long after Swiss was summoned that he truly started to understand the bands dynamic. Day in and day out of watching his pack mates eye each other like a piece of meat, constant touching and flirting and there was many parts of Swiss that yearned to be included in it.

He didn’t feel ready. Half split between feeling left out as the two ghoulettes he came with have been bonded and together since summon, and the other ghouls really seemed to take to them after a couple days anyways. It wasn’t like no one took to him, but he’s never propositioned, desired, at least not in his line of sight. He feels like he would be intruding if he were to say anything. So he waits.

The other half worries partially about being inexperienced. Never used a human body, barely has even touched himself and god he’s probably embarrassing, no one wants to be with someone so inexperienced right?

He continues to think about it. Fuck he practically studies the other ghouls and sex and whatever the fuck they’re doing together because when the time comes he doesn’t want to embarrass himself. He’s genuinely afraid he will just get laughed out of the room if he’s not ready though he’s sure he’s probably acting insane.

Truly Swiss has no clue what to think.

He sits on his bed, tosses a toy around in his hands. Nothing insane, something normal sized since he’s a beginner but he worries about it anyways. Hypothetically he knows where it’s supposed to go but

The morning is really no better for his mind. Stands at the kitchen counter lost in thought before anyone else comes in, the boisterous laughter breaking him out of his anxiety induced trance.

“Feeling ok sunbeam?” Mountain gives him a worried look, standing next to him to lean on the marble.

“Yeah! Didn’t sleep well, I’m fine”

“Well if you ever want help sleeping just let me know” mountain winks at him.

Was that?

It couldn’t be. Right?

Did mountain just finally proposition to fuck him?

He can’t say no. He’s come too far and wanted it too bad so he has to go to his room tonight right?

Questions race around Swiss’ brain. He’s the bottom right? Mountain is like a foot taller than him so that has to be it? But what if he that’s not correct and mountain gets offended? What if the rest of the pack hears and hates him? What if-

The hours pass like molasses. Swiss swears every time he checks his watch after he’s sure it’s been an hour it’s really only been 10 minutes.

Swiss decides around 10 pm is good. Late enough for a reasonable bedtime but early enough he knows mountain won’t actually be asleep.

Mountain is shirtless, wearing low grey sweatpants when he answers the door. Swiss thinks he may be drooling but attempts to collect himself enough to speak.

“Didn’t think you’d actually come up here, been waiting for you to come to one of us sunbeam” mountain chuckles and motions through the open door to invite him in.

“Been waiting for you myself, hard to ignore such a big guy like you” Swiss pushes himself against mountain. He’s heard in pornos that men like to be called big. That was right to say, right?

Jake also mentions that Holt has a tattoo and Aizawa almost gets them to focus on that but Gina foils his plans. Or she is like: 'I will allow you to use the Captain as a distraction but only if you show me your tattoo'.

Mic's alias is Michael Jackson and he's like: 'yeah ma loved him' and y'know maybe that's actually true. So, everyone still calls him Mic and he spells it that way. It drives Amy bonkers but maybe Holt actually, surprisingly agrees with him bc why spell the nickname like that if his real name isn't spelled that way??

Aizawa's alias is Shouta Jackson. Since no one knows his real name even if they do know he's Eraserhead. And bc Mic can't refer to him as anything other than Shou and Eraser lmao

The Nightmare of Zoldyck (Musical) was gay as fuck and here's why you should watch it.

Bingeing The Nightmare of Zoldyck reminds me just. Just how fucking gay it was??????? And this was made almost 11 years ago???? And it's just so insane and surreal to me?????? They could've added any sort of twist to the Zoldyck Arc and yet the twist they chose was 🌈🏳️‍🌈??? In all fairness, they did also add Hisoka so maybe that's just how it is lmao

Now you may think I'm joking or being delusional—but no I swear THEY MADE IT GAY AS FUCK OK. IT'S ACTUALLY AMAZING

First, we have the obvious; the adorable, blossoming friendship between Gon and Killua. The very reason this arc exists is because Gon refused to let Illumi's teachings corrupt Killua's self-esteem. It's so, so, so touching in the manga and both anime adaptations, but in the musical they just... The songs just made it come off more romantic?

I'm biased, I love the friends-to-lovers development these two undergo, but I swear, take the shipping goggles off and it's still has a subtle if not in-your-face obvious, romantic tone.

Why? First, the presentation. The Zoldycks are introduced by Milluki through song. They each get lines which are backed up by epic music and stage effects, come together for the iconic chant of, "Zoldyck," before ultimately gathering around and sitting down.

Kalluto, Kikyo, Illumi, Silva, Milluki, and Zeno have a family meeting while Killua's hung above them, representing where he is in the dungeon, and right off the bat, you get hit with "forbidden romance" vibes.

The family talks about what Killua did, what he said, while Killua sings about how he doesn't want to inherit his dad's position. HE ALSO SINGS THIS LINE WHICH IS SO?????

And he sings a little after Illumi visits him in the dungeon and, y'know, messes with his head even more. He writes a letter of sorts to Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio, telling them they should go to protect them from Illumi and he just sounds SO heartbroken...

Then we skip forward, this is after the gang has won Gotou's approval. Gon writes a letter, and it's so fucking sweet because it's basically him saying look. Look at Zebro, Gotou, Canary, these people who care for you, who love you. You're not alone, we understand your feelings, ok? AND THIS PANEL IN PARTICULAR IS SO RAPUNZEL SO ROMEO AND JULIET IDK

And that super serious discussion between Killua and Silva? He gushes about Gon a lot, and they really took some liberties with Silva because this man keeps grinning like he knows his son's got a crush.

And of course Gon's not gonna back down. Canary asks how their Young Master Killua was like, outside Kukuroo Mountain, and... just look.

I'm not gonna include every damn time they sing together but when they finally meet? They're so. so happy. I can't.

And there's this scene after the party (yes they have a goodbye party of sorts for Killua) where Killua thanks Gon for coming to get him and Gon says ofc we're friends and they play around and they're so happy together...

There's also this moment when it all goes to shit and THIS SONG SLAPS Gon metaphorically slaps Killua out of it too but just. Just listen to it, it made me cry

And since this happens right after the Hunter's Exam, Kurapika and Leorio are still a bit wary of Killua, so while Gon's ecstatic and unwavering about being Killua's friend, the other two sort of bond in the sidelines as well?

Take this shot of leopika dancing. It's short and sweet and they're so stupid but they're at least getting along!!!

I forgot they bickered a lot, especially during the Hunter's Exam, but now look at them. This isn't the gayest part though, because Leorio finds out there's a hot spring in the Zoldyck mansion... and... yeah... I'll let y'all watch this scene for yourselves but uh, stuff happens and I fucking screamed is all

Mind you, there is no fucking explanation as to why Hisoka's there. His narrative purpose is ofc to sow chaos and stir trouble, look out for Gon or whatever, but why is he here specifically in the Zoldyck Estate is never stated. BUT he does refer to it as a vacation. Twice.

Like sure this is just him being a little shit but COME ON. If Illumi really didn't want him there, he'd have chased Hisoka out, swatting him with a broom while at it. But no. They scheme in the dark and Illumi shows him around and Hisoka says it's a vacation. Wonder who could've invited him.......

This interaction also happens. And I will only be thinking about this for the foreseeable future.

The way they switch the audience's perspective actually really satisfying. Each couple gets their alone time and it's like seeing the different stages of a relationship. INSANE and HELLA GAY

And, of course, the heart of the cards—easily one of the most iconic lines Hisoka's said, which is, coincidentally, the point of conflict of the entire musical

I just. I love this musical so much. It used to be my comfort watch when I first got into HxH, and while I joke about how fucking gay it turned out to feel (I'm being serious about it though) I do think it's a great production.

The actors did amazing, the dance/fight sequences and the dialogue were so well done, and it just added so much depth to the Zoldycks, y'know? I do wish Alluka was here, but we all know why she's not... That would've been so fun though.

OK my random question for you to think over is— If you could schedule some bonding time between Jean Valjean and any one of Les Amis, which Ami would you choose? Who would he click with/who would help him out the most/who would be the best most helpful Buddy for him to have ??? Or would you need to pick multiple Amis?

(This may or may not be related to a future fic idea I have planned. I have asked myself this question but currently do not know the answer, so I am curious about your thoughts! You always have great Les Amis takes)

OK before I get into this, I want to be clear that I think Cosette does an AMAZING job with Valjean's emotional Everything, but (a) she's a kid (b) she's HIS kid (c) no one person, no matter how close or important, can ever supply all of another person's emotional needs, even if they're a lot less traumatized than Valjean to start (d) a major problem with Valjean is Social Isolation, which only people Besides Cosette can alleviate (e) that is just the start of the issues that Cosette can't and should never have to handle alone! So no consideration of adding Other Friends to Valjean's life should be taken as an insult from me to Cosette (and I know you wouldn't , but people get weird). Cosette is a star.

Also: I am in all of this assuming a setting/ series of events leading to Acquaintance that does right by both parties ; importantly, that means Valjean is sure, somehow, that none of these men are romantically interested in or romantically interesting to Cosette. Maybe it's post- marriage, maybe it's an AU, maybe Whatever. Valjean's not doing his Lion With a Dog routine about it.

OK THAT SAID, let's Consider:

Enjolras: if they met outside a barricade, I can see them getting along very well! Unfortunately, that's because without pressing political action or conversation be thrown at them, I can imagine them both just sitting quietly and reading or being lost in their thoughts for as long as they're hanging out. Even GIVEN a political topic, like..Valjean is not gonna argue with anything Enjolras says and Enjolras is already gonna say it and they are just...gonna continue to Agree and then go back to Quiet Reading Time. Parallel Play For The Cats. Valjean will think Enjolras is a pleasant young man, Enjolras will think Valjean is a restful older gentleman, they will go to the library at the same time every Wednesday and nod hello and read in chairs near each other and never talk. Probably exactly the kind of interaction Valjean wants, and not at all what he needs to get out of his routine.

Combeferre: a very strong option!! assuming they've gotten talking about Nearly Anything, Combeferre can find the Fun Conversational Trivia in any subject. I bet Valjean would LOVE to hear about how steam engines work and the latest discoveries about bees or rubber or tinctures of opium. Valjean might be willing to tell him Cool Gardening and Metallurgy Knowledge and Combeferre would LISTEN. Combeferre is sharp and cutting about Interests and Ideas, but shows no signs of being someone who wants to get more emotional or personal with people than they're already setting up. This could be a great Hobby Buddy friendship and that's something Valjean really needs! Potential Issues: if they DO run into the sort of conversation where they're debating ideas, Combeferre does not seem to have an Easy Mode. IDK how much Valjean would be willing to enter Debate Thunderdome about politics or social issues; I worry greatly that he would shut down in Automatic Defense System Mode. But if they can work around that, Combeferre could be so good for getting him interested in the outside world!

Prouvaire: Much as above for Combeferre, except Prouvaire is already something of a gardener, DOES have a Gentle mode for debates, AND is goth, which would surely speak to Valjean's " some alive people like to be in coffins too" soul. Also lbr we know Prouvaire is on the 420 Crew in any era and it might do Valjean some real good to get baked once in a while. Strong potential here.

Feuilly: HE'S LIKE THE SON VALJEAN MIGHT HAVE KNOWN, or the grandson really-- as I recall, we've done the math and figured out that Feuilly really might be in the right age range to be one of Valjean's nibling's kids. I don't know how much Valjean has ever considered international politics but I bet he would deeply resonate with the plight of refugees and the displaced, which after all is a lot of the real issue. And maybe from there they can even get into how this is all systemic and Valjean might start to understand how he's not Uniquely Horrible if these injustices happen to so many people!!! A Little !!! Possibly!! Either way,they can get earnest and emotional over just wanting everyone else to have a better deal than they got. Go Team Lower Class Orphans Too Good For This World !

Courfeyrac: listen Courfeyrac's a delight and all but..he's just very bourgeois student. He is. Even assuming we're in the best situation where he and Valjean are talking politics and social issues enough for Valjean to NOT just mentally write him off as Standard Student Guy, I suspect Courfeyrac's many charms are just the wrong ones here. I'm not saying they can't get along, I think Courfeyrac can probably get alone with nearly anyone,but this is gonna be one of the harder options for any real connection.

Bahorel: you know I was all ready to go on a big ramble about how this could go multiple ways until I remembered the ONE THING, THE ONLY THING that gets Valjean to really open up and talk about his past is watching a younger man make horrible life choices that could get him arrested, never mind about trying to get Valjean to open up, Valjean is gonna trauma-dump on Bahorel so hard in the first fifteen minutes of them actually hanging out. And unlike Montparnasse, Bahorel pays attention and gives a damn about other people, and he is SO ready to get into how the legal system is pure evil and screws everyone over. Hating the legal system is a major component of his personality! I had honestly not really realized it until making this post but wow this will, eventually, be So Good for Valjean's mental health. (I am perhaps being a little silly here but I do think, on consideration, that Bahorel's over the top Everything would be on balance kinda reassuring for Valjean; plus there IS the goth factor XD Bonus points if it's a Better Post-Barricades setting where Bahorel's taken in Gavroche and they can bond over Unexpected Child Acquisition)

Legle: For Legle, see Courfeyrac, I'm afraid. You KNOW I love Bossuet so very much but he speaks 90 percent in too-smart-by-half puns and references and his entire social presentation depends on knowing how to parlay a bourgeois social skillset into Endless Crash Space. He's super weird and an incredibly good guy For Real but I don't know if Valjean would put enough effort in to realize that! Like with Courfeyrac, I feel like this would just be a Polite Acquaintaceship. Open to being convinced otherwise though!

Joly: ..ok I know Joly is also Student Guy as heck, but he's also direct and enthusiastic and overtly sweet in a way that Courfeyrac and Legle aren't. I can see Valjean enjoying his company somewhat the way he enjoys Cosette's actually-- here's someone who will be cheerful and chattery about things that he, Valjean, does not really know or care about. I still don't know if they'd connect on any deeper level but I could buy Valjean actively noticing and enjoying Joly's company.

Grantaire: HAAAAAHahahahhahaAAAAAHHHAHAHAHAHAH *runs out of breath* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAAAAAA hahahaha nooooo. No. Nooooooooo. Grantaire talking to Valjean would go about like Grantaire talking to Javert in the I Mis Miniseries. Grantaire will talk! You cannot stop him unless you are named Enjolras! Valjean will nooooot care.

...Writing this up has made me reflect on what I think Valjean really needs out of a potential friend and it's - someone to do the talking - shared interests, or new interests they can be enthusiastic about while he nods ahead - a willingness/ ability to get HIM to talk at least sometimes ?? maybe?? - shared goth vibes or at least the ability to understand that sometimes u__u you just gotta be in a coffin now u__u - ABSOLUTELY MANDATORY overt disdain for The Rules this is why Fauchelevent was SO good for him but I think he also needs someone who is not in life debt to him! he needs to know he can socialize with Kind New People and Not Explode!!

ok so arcane. i need to talk about this bc like. it’s doing so much?? like it wants to say something about class struggle, about family dynamics and how they tend to be disfunctional, about the ethics of science and the cost of progress, and all of that is SO GOOD in theory. but it bites off way too much and then doesn’t chew enough of it. like. we get these big emotional moments and they WORK. but also they feel like they’re working bc they’re engineered for emotion value rather than bc the story gave them enough room to breathe and actually BUILD UP to those moments in a way that feels solid. it’s like they’re holding back context on purpose to keep things in order, like they were afraid of losing the original narrative if they went in the direction of giving us some more context on the lore, it’s like?? i need MORE.

like take ekko and powder for example. we KNOW they care about each other. i can feel that in the scenes they share but i also feel like i’m projecting bc the SHOW doesn’t actually give me enough to work with. like yes they were friends but we don’t SEE enough of their bond before everything goes to hell. i feel like i’m filling in blanks that the story didn’t bother to fill and it makes me feel like i’m imagining things?? that’s frustrating bc those emotional beats are SO STRONG but they could’ve hit harder if we just had more exposition.

and yeah ok like arcane does a better job weaving character relationships into its story than say, jujutsu kaisen (yeah....). BUT it still has this problem where it’s like “you feel this bc we told you to feel it” instead of “you feel this bc you saw it build up and it makes perfect sense.” like i see characters and i FEEL it but i want to see even more of how we got here instead of just being thrown into the middle of it.

also. they cram in all these HUGE ideas like “progress at what cost” and “should scientists be responsible for their creations” and “class systems are inherently violent” and they just... don’t go deep enough into any of them?? it’s like they wanted to explore everything but didn’t give themselves enough time so it’s just little pieces of these big themes scattered everywhere. and yeah it’s cool to think about but i want to feel like the show KNOWS what it’s trying to say instead of just hinting at it.

final thoughts: arcane is BEAUTIFUL and it’s EMOTIONAL and it’s doing SO MUCH but it also frustrates me bc i feel like it’s scared to go deeper. like it’s scared to slow down and let us sit with things. it’s amazing for a first watch but when you try to process it and form a deeper opinion you’re left like... idk what to SAY bc they didn’t give me enough to really DIG INTO. amazing vibes, incredible story, but PLEASE give me more context!!!

Even with Halbrand, Galadriel never reached for him, not unless she had his clear consent, and they were mostly clasping their forearms together. Galadriel never held his hands, and she never touched his face or his chest. With Elrond, she touches him without hesitation, and she immediately turned her face and pressed her lips against his when he kissed her. They can't now tell us that this kiss was frivolous. The camera zoomed in on their faces, it lingered on them for a very long time, and the music was not platonic-sounding.

I guess I'm annoying, but I don't want to see Celeborn return. What do you mean I'm meant to care about a missing husband who adds nothing to the narrative, especially after seeing Galadriel being this close to both Sauron (darkness) and Elrond (light)? I'm afraid they will shackle her to Celeborn and diminish her importance in the action, yeah no please no.

It’s all very confusing isn’t it? But I think it’s supposed to be in a way.

One thing I’ve noticed about the ROP writing is that it does a great job of allowing you to feel what the character is feeling if you’ll let it. This is partly why I think the kiss is intentional, because it leaves an impression, and a question that needs to be answered. They wouldn’t make it this unclear if they didn’t have plans to clear it up later.

At the end of season two, multiple “confusing” storylines have been concluded, that were left as questions in season 1. This should be another that we see answered.

I think it was important for the writers to show Elrond and Galadriel’s friendship intimacy as being so “platonic”. It could possibly play a role in figuring out these blurred lines, because technically neither should have any excuse to feel different about what’s always been “normal” touch between them. It’s a wonderfully brilliant layer to flesh out, as opposed to them responding a certain way to touch because they’ve never touched before. It shows history, and a history of love/friendship, which creates the ultimate strong bond that people love to see played out on screen.

Lastly I’ll say, that yes, the kiss reads romantic. Somehow thousands of lorebros have gaslit themselves into believing it’s not, but erm, yeah idk? The kiss with Estrid and Isildur felt less intimate that this one tbh. Not to mention Elrond and Galadriel having touchy scenes that are nearly identical to the scenes between Elendil and Miriel, and folks have picked up on the romantic undertones there.

Anyways. I hope we get more touchiness between them, and I hope it becomes more obvious that theirs is unique. Obviously we see some other “touchy” moments with Galadriel and other characters, but they don’t quite read the same. And I’ll mention, these scenes(with Brimby and Arondir, even Gil Galad) didn’t show up until the end of season 2, so now would be a great time to make the shift with her and Elrond. It might even feel less obvious this way, which I enjoy.

plz just give me fluffy Tim and Cass working together okay I have read exactly two (2) comics and I have watched SOME young Justice and I have read so many angst fics all I want is for these children to be happy

Sorry it's taken so long to answer this, I got carried away and kept rambling haha.

Tim and Cass in canon is so interesting because it starts out with Tim being Tim, more than a little wary and judgemental because of Cass's past. But he actually owns up to this, apologises for his biases, and asks Cass if they can be friends. And they are! Fresh blood is where they're front and center, and in batgirl volume 2 he's the one most supportive of her, along with being the one in the family to reach out to her after Bruce dies and the one she clearly is closest to in Gates of Gotham. But what really makes Tim and Cass for me are all the little moments in canon where they're Batgirl and Robin and they're not even the main focus of the story, but their sibling twin menace energy is off the charts.

Just little moments of their teamwork really cemented their bond for me. To me it's like... More than any other batgirl and robin duo these two should be almost creepily in sync. Batman says "Team assemble." and they drop down from their various hideyholes in the roof with perfect timing. They could be having a fight that very day and not a single criminal would know if from the way they bounce off each other in combat.

But as well as that, they've seen each other at some of the lowest points in their lives, and been there for each other. The loss of Steph, Tim's dad, Cass getting brainwashed by Slade, Bruce's death. They never had to be the first priority for each other to still end up on the list of people to take care of and I kind of love that. The reassurance that no matter what happens with all the other important relationships in your life, batgirl and robin will always have each other's backs, in whatever way they can.

For me, they're the better sibling pair to Steph and Jason because Tim and Cass do actually have a solid arc you can trace through comics, even despite editorial having it out for Cass at certain points. There are comics and storylines you can pick up and see them acting like siblings even before Cass was adopted.

Whereas with Steph and Jason it was all about the potential, and still kind of is tbh. It's about Bruce projecting Jason on Steph and Steph dying as a result, it's about both of them being familiar with taking care of an addict parent, it's about both of them knowing how much a loaf of bread costs, it's about how they were let down by people they trusted and how Bruce (thanks to the writers) puts both of them down to uplift Tim, it's about their attitude to killing and to criminals and how death changed both their perspectives permanently but in very different directions.

But the issue is that they started interacting during the new 52 where all of Steph's history had been erased and Jason had been defanged off screen into a batfam member. And then from rebirth onwards they suffer from a similar issue a lot of batfam relationships do, where instead of developing the bond the writers just go yeah this is how they interact now. How did they get close? How come they trust each other? Idk, it just happened.

And this is not unique at all to Jason and Steph nor does it stop me from enjoying their interactions, but it does put Cass and Tim on top for me.

I love the way you advice a lot of people here, so I wanna open up and tell you what's happening in my love life to see what you can say to me, maybe it'll make me feel better afterwards.

So, I'm seeing this guy for 8 months now, we're working together in a project. He's 12 years older than me (he's 37), has a little girl of 4, and he's single.

Since we started hooking up, he always told me he didn't wanted a relationship with anyone. He sees other people, he told me that even. He's honest with his intentions with me, he never made anything more to seems he wanted something more than casual sex with me. Until now..

The funny part is that I was a virgin, and as we were seeing each other, he didn't wanted to have sex with me, he thought it was too much responsibility for him to do so.

I understood and last month when I convinced myself he'd never ever have sex with in the near future, he decided it was ok and we did it a few days after my birthday.

It was his gift for me, and it was very special. A few days earlier of all of this , we had an event in our job/project when he saw my little sister and my parents, he interacted with them the whole night and he wanted to kiss me so bad that day, but we agreed to let things under the surface.

I don't know how else to say it to you and I apologise in advance for being blunt but this man does not love you or care for you. Please RUN from him. He had EIGHT whole months with you and he was seeing other people??? That itself is insane to me. You wanted your first time to be with him, it happened etc, that's okay. However I gently want to break it to you that if someone does not love/like you/ want to be with you/committed to you before having sex with you, they're not going to change their mind afterwards either. Sex is very emotionally charged for women but I will say that men absolutely do not have the same relationship with sex. Sex is just sex to them.

I'm not trying to tell you how you should or shouldn't feel but it's highly likely that the "falling deeply in love" bit is just a consequence of having sex with someone. You form an energetic bond with someone when you're intimate with them, you're literally holding them INSIDE your body. All the endorphins will make it seem like you're in lOooOve and a lot of people struggle to leave toxic relationships because of sex. What I mean when I say that is not that the sex is euphoric or mind-blowing but that the act of being intimate with someone is so vulnerable and deep (for the lack of a better word??) and it's hard to just break things off and move on. Being in a relationship or having sex with the same person repeatedly means you physically become attached to them. When moms breastfeed their babies, it's hard to wean them off even if the baby no longer needs to rely on breast milk to survive. It's bc the baby is physically attached to the act of being held and nourished. And to quit that, is hard. Same applies to sex. It's not exactly "love" bc this man does absolutely nothing but hurt your feelings and that's not love. You're emotionally attached to him bc you've been naked and vulnerable with him.

ok starting off with the whole family lore to make this easier

thomas is craig’s biological father, aka why they look pretty much identical in post covid. though craig is from a previous marriage, and this also feeds into a different headcanon so yeah. basically, thomas’s previous wife was lilith marsh- randy’s sister. her and thomas later divorce when craig is about two, and thomas gets custody. he later married laura, they have tricia, and then yeah that’s how the tuckers came to be.

back to lilith. she’s randy’s sister, meaning craig and stan are in fact cousins. they also looks realllyyyy similar.

anyways i’m going back to thomas. his brother is skeeter, hence them looking really similar. so that means skeeter is craig’s uncle, and him and red are cousins.

so yeah that’s the family tree lore, but i have so many headcanons for this so let’s see if i can remember them

so first of all, for the marshes. grandpa marshes wife, idk if she had a name or whateva i forget, im gonna call her shelly, so shelly is a family name now. basically grandpa marshes was reallyyyy short and shelly was reallyyyy tall, so the fam can go both ways. randy got the short genes, meanwhile lilith got the tall genes. so yeah, shelly and stan are really short, idk about shelly idk how tall she should be but stan is 5’4 (5’4.5)

ONE OF MY FAVORITE HEADCANONS- PERUVIAN CRAIG okokokok so basically, shelly (grandma) is peruvian, though she moved to colorado and met grandpa marsh. then yeah all that fun stuff happened. then yeah lilith was born and then she married thomas and shit and then BOOM peruvian craig. i also hc thomas having native american roots, so craig is a bit darker than his cousins

i think that’s all the lore for this so i’m just gonna do stupid headcanons now that i have in a google doc somewhere and im too lazy to edit them so just take them raw

Craig and Tricia always argue, and Craig has probably broken his nose from hitting his face on the ground after Tricia tripped him. But despite that, they’d do anything for each other. They act like they absolutely despise each other, but actually love each other more than anything. Tricia also gets along with Tweek really well, and they’ll tease him sometimes.

Laura is stepmom, not biological. Craig’s real mom was Peruvian, which Craig got that from. She also had black hair, hence Craig’s black hair. She was actually Randy’s sister. He actually doesn’t remember his mother, because his father and her got divorced when he was about two. Thomas (obviously) got custody over him. Laura is very overprotective of Craig and Tricia, but not in an annoying way, but she would definitely kill for either of them without hesitation. She can be very short tempered, which her children definitely get from her.

Thomas is actually a really good dad. His brother is Skeeter, hence them looking so much alike. Sure, he’s had his ups and down, like similar to when he first learned Craig was gay, when he learned he was also autistic, he found it hard to accept it. But of course, he knew he had to. He’s just such an awesome dad, and would do anything for his kids. Him and Craig have the average father-son bond, just a bit closer. Craig usually disappears into his room, but will gladly spend time with his father if he isn’t hanging out with his friends

Despite canonically calling her Grandma, Craig calls his grandmother Nana. His grandmother felt terrible when she learned about the Peru thing, so she insisted on giving Craig another $100. But when Craig realized he couldn’t back out of it, he took it and instead gave it to Tricia begrudgingly. She comes over a lot, usually to bake, and loves to cook and bake with Tweek.

His cousins do get a bit confusing, even to Craig. Stan is his cousin from his mothers side, and they look wicked similar. People often get the two confused. Red is Craig’s cousin from his fathers side, so both him and Tricia are related to her. Usually her and Craig get along relatively well, because Craig claims she’s a “not lame girl” unlike most of the ones in his class.

Randy is his uncle, and Craig absolutely hates him. He’s one of those uncles that tries to get the entire family to love and adore him, which is usually ruined (although it never existed) by him getting drunk and high all the time, basically ruining any bond he’s ever had. Craig doesn’t even call him ‘Uncle Randy’ or anything. Just straight up Randy. Skeeter is his other Uncle, and he usually hangs out with him along with his dad. They actually get along well, and make bets on the stupidest things, like which raindrop would win the race on the window

-How I feel about this character: Where do I even start. This guy drives me crazy. There is so much wrong with him. He's a loser, he's terrible. Insanely trans coded. He's kinda like me fr fr.... There is so much story potential for him. I need him. I feel normal about him as you can tell.

-All the people I ship romantically with this character: I SURE DO WONDER!!! (It's Shocker). I sure do love taking 2 of my favorite characters who have interacted once or twice and MAKE THE FUCK UP A RAREPAIR!!! with them. Dunno itd be interesting i think. They've got similar powers and all, they worked fairly well in that one interaction... They contrast each other nicely, idk theres just something about these 2... (< guy who has written literal essays about all the ideas he has)

My non-romantic OTP for this character: ELECTRO AND MYSTERIO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Best friends of all time (they hate each other /j) Dunno they'd be funny i think. Also their difference in powers would make an interesting team up. Think they'd bond over shared interest in tech and stuff. They probably gossip a SHITTTT ton despite Electro saying he has no interest in it. They're buddies who've got each other's back even if they get on each other's nerves a lot :]

My unpopular opinion about this character: A lot of people. GREATLY MISCHARACTERIZE HIS ASS!!!!!! He is not an uwu soft boy TWINK!!!!!! That is a grown ass man. Sure he's younger then the rest of the 6 BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN HE SHOULD CONSTANTLY BE INFANTILZED. Also. (ok this is more of an unpopular opinion type beat, I just needed to rant about that real quick back there) Make that guy meaner, he is def kind of a prick. He would poke fun and tease the other members, he'd argue with some of them (esp Mysterio and Vulture). ALSO he isnt the brightest. But hes also not STUPID!!!!!!! This guy used to be an electrician, he def knows some shit!!!!. ALSO!!!!!! Redemption plot lines are fun for him, but also. I think he should get worse :], make that guy lose himself to the madness!!! make him completely forget who "max" was, make him give in to the villianous side of him that secretly loves the freedom and just funnn of being a villain (ya know his ass has a little fun with these schemes...)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

So many fuckin things you would not believe. HE HAS SO MUCH FUCKIN STORY POTENTIAL AND AGRHRH. He gets sidelined so fuckin hard. What do you mean the last we see of him is in ravencroft and is just. basically a cameo in that one ep for colonel jupiter or whatever. what the fuck man. ANYWAYYYSSS of course i want to see more of him, like more focus on him. Let me know more of his mental state and how he views the Connors and the people he knew before the accident. I would say let me see him get redeemed and cured but also. LET ME SEE HIM GET WORSE!!!! (as stated previously) grin.

Jen Tortures Herself With Every Dreamworks Animated Movie Ever: The Boss Baby: Family Business

So would you believe me if I told you this movie is better than the first Boss Baby? I mean it's not... much better, but still, improvements were made here. Let's talk about them.

We jump foward to a now adult Tim, who has fallen out of touch with his brother Ted (the original Boss Baby) and struggles to connect with his daughter Tabitha. He soon discovers his baby Tina is on assignment from BabyCorp to stop a new villain intent on wiping out all parents. Tina gives both Ted and Tim a formula to make them both young again, recruiting their help on this mission and roping them into all sorts of Mischief ala the first movie but... like I said, marginally better.

So yeah, once again, very silly plot for a very silly movie. And yet... I don't know, it feels more... genuine than the first one did? Like it leans less on the obvious "oh look at funee baby in suit talking like a businessman" (though there is still plenty of that) and leans more on character interactions and I gotta respect that. Especially since it actually gives me a reason to care about Ted and Tim this time around, actually strengthening their bond and reflecting on how they weren't there for each other growing up like they promised they would be, and how they're given a second chance to change that now. Idk, just some pretty nice thematic stuff in there, along with Tim learning to be a better dad to his kids along the way (daddy issues in Dreamworks movies, they never stop, I Swear).

The characters here are... ok. Better than they were in the first movie, I mean fuck, the titual Boss Baby is toned down a lot and is honestly one of the least painful parts of this. Tim is also better, mostly bc he's actually an adult here so he's not your annoying kid stereotype like he was before. Tina is... kind of annoying, being the source of all of the "business baby" jokes and she grates on the nerves every now and then. Tabitha is ok though, getting some good development alongside Tim. Then we have our villain, Armstrong, who is... surprisingly funny? Like he isn't the funniest dreamworks baddie by any means, but he was certainly watchable. Hell, you could kind of say that for this movie as a whole, really.

The humor here is a little better, striking surprisingly a little more mature than last time (featuring an insane joke about agnostics like what the fuck Dreamworks I never would have thought you'd ever reference religion again after Prince of Egypt holy shit). The emotional beats also hit just a touch more, feeling a good degree less forced than the first movie's. And yet for everything this movie does well, I think its biggest problem is it drags on for far too long, just meandering with scenes that don't need to be anywhere near as long as they are, into a movie with a longer runtime than it probably should have had. It gets... tiring, after a while, and you get to the point where you just want the damn thing to end.

The animation here is really nothing special, basically looking identical to the first movie's, though I will say a few of the imagination sequences were sort of eye catching here. The music is also pretty simplistic but there were a few diagetic songs that I thought were... ok enough. Pretty unoffensive in that reguard, though of course, the pop songs just couldn't keep their nose out of this movie either.

Like I said, its far from being anything resembling good, but fuck, I watched Spirit Untamed last night and this was better than that and it was also better than the first movie, so that's gotta count for something. Even then though, it doesn't count for... that much.

Overall Rating: 4/10

Verdict: Pay tribute to the Greatest Dreamworks Character Ever: The Agnostic Kid
