- You’d probably often compliment his eyes and you have this image that hes so calm and collected— which he is! But! Not with you! So every conversation with you is him just fighting for his life trying to look cool and not implode at the same time

honestly, I think there are almost zero situations in MDZS we're ever being asked to think about in terms of pure morality

Song Lan can intellectually understand all of these things, and agree with some elements and disagree with others, but at the end of the day, we see that he is a separate, individual person who has his own emotional reaction to what he was given. it doesn't matter what Xiao Xingchen meant, Song Lan still gets to feel how he feels about what he did

I did some mathing in my brain about when is AI’s and the Twins birthdays since I’m trying to figure out with what we got in the prologue since Aka never gave anyone birthdays and the time line of seasons is a fuck here. but I’m thinking Ai just turned 16 around the same time she was discovered to be 20 weeks along(5 months) and it starts snowing when her death/20th birthday but the twins birth it also starts snowing with the reincarnation happens.Japan usually starts having snow around mid December til early April so I’m shooting that AI’s birthday is around December while the twins might be late march if im doing a ball park guess I know this is weird thing to bring up in a ask but if Akasaka doesn’t give us birthdays then the fans gonna have to do it with the context clues we get especially since she’s still 16 when the twins are like … 6 months. Idek I’m rambling and want to know of your take cause I love your takes

please undrstand i am saying this with nothing but love but this ask briefly sent me down a rabbithole of forbidden knowledge and insanity and i feel like a lovecraft protag who has seen too much. The most direct clue we get about when Ai's birthday falls is in Viewpoint B, during her conversation with Kyun. The flashback portion of the story is implied to take place in December (the framing device is set in December and Kyun's recent breakup happened 'right before Christmas') and Ai's upcoming fifteenth birthday is mentioned indirectly; she talks about being about to age out of the children's home she'd been staying in which would put her birthday either in December or January.

This is also supported by the fact that the the snowfall that occurs after her death is noted to be unseasonably early. Given that the series is set mostly in Tokyo which mostly gets its snow in January, December makes the most sense for her birth month. In addition, during the little happy memories montage at the end of the episode, we see the family celebrating Christmas in a space that has exclusively Christmas decorations — so Ai's birthday is not close enough to the 24th or 25th for those sorts of celebrations to overlap. With all that in mind, my best guess for Ai's birthday is late November/early December. I personally like to headcanon it as November 28th, as it matches the timeframe and is when the real life Strawberry Productions Fan Thankgiving event was held.

As for the twins birthday, my instinct was to try and guesstimate this based on the details of Ai's pregnancy. We're directly told by the text that it lasted the full 40 weeks (which is actually not as common for twins — Ruby and Aqua were a bit late!) and that a few months have passed by the time she returns to working as an idol; Aqua and Ruby are using walkers the day she returns from her hiatus and babies are not typically physically capable of using them until around six months old. Obviously the twins are a bit more mobile than a regular baby would be much earlier, but they do seem to be reasonably constrained by the physical limits of their bodies so I feel pretty comfortable saying around six months have passed by the time Ai comes off hiatus. This also makes sense in terms of Ai's health, since it takes about six months to fully recovery from childbirth.

20 weeks post hiatus pregnancy + six months postpartum recovery = ten to eleven months passed between Ai arriving at the hospital and returning from her hiatus. It's also worth noting that she may not actually still be 16 around this time? When Saitou talks about her age, he mentions her becoming a mother at 16 which is obviously the age she had the kids, but it does leave room for her to have had a birthday between getting pregnant and actually having them.

With that 20 week starting point in mind, though, we can use the remaining 20 weeks of her pregnancy to try and narrow things down a bit more.

Using the anime as reference, it seems to be around early/mid autumn when Ai arrives at the hospital. If you look at the greenery behind Gorou when he's up on the roof, you can see there's patches where leaves are starting to show their autumn colours.

Since the hospital is all the way out in Takachiho, where autumn typically lasts between November and early December (if I'm remembering right?), my best guess would be that Ai arrived at the hospital probably late November or early December.

With that in mind, the remaining 20 weeks of her pregnancy playing out in full, that means the twins' birthday must be in mid to late April. This is actually implicitly confirmed to be the case in the series itself: while Ruby's age (and therefore Aqua's by extension) is given as 14 at the start of volume 2, they are already sixteen by the time LoveNow starts airing, which happens not long after they start high school - and the Japanese school year starts in April.

I'm choosing to headcanon them on the earlier side of April, just because that places them smack dab in the middle of cherry blossom season for Tokyo, which both makes them spring babies in contrast to Ai and ties nicely into how cherry blossoms represent rebirth and new beginnings.

hi alya! sorry it took me one million years to answer this ask but it was so thoughtful and thorough that i wanted to wait until i had the time to do it justice with the response 🫡🫡

first, i am sooooo so glad you liked chapter 7 because it was insanely fun for me to write! really enjoyed writing it and their shifting dynamic and i’m super glad that came through! you’re so right in saying that neither of them is stupid enough to Not notice how things are changing between them, and they both are definitely coming to terms with the realization that they do enjoy each other’s company in a way that is more than just physical. i think for meeee one of the most fun things abt this chapter was writing the different ways they approached that realization, especially from will’s pov. the feelings definitely are not new for either of them, which i think is pretty obvious by this point in the fic, but both of them are used to turbulence and are anticipating that and don’t really know what to do without it! super glad you picked up on mike’s hesitation as well — i think people tend to characterize our mike as “all in” or a lot more open about his feelings than will is, which is true to an extent, but he has his limitations just as much as will does and maybe even more at times.

anyways all that to say that i’m really glad that the chapter came through the way i was intending! the other parts of it were so fun to write as well — the hopper and will moment, el and max, so on and so forth. re max: it definitely is very hard for will to say the things he’s feeling to her, and battling with not wanting to keep such a big secret from his best friend vs not wanting to betray the newfound trust between him and mike is absolutely something he has been struggling with. very excited to see how that plays out hehe ( <- knows exactly how it will play out)

as for your last question, we have a couple initial songs for every chapter that have been in the playlist doc for a while, usually the “main” song for that chapter, but it’s pretty much up to whoever is writing to choose the rest of the songs and move them around/add and remove as desired! we try to keep it about 5-6 songs per chapter to keep the playlist from getting monstrous (bar some very Long and Dense chapters that are getting more) but what we do is we assemble the chapter playlist as we write and then let the others know in case there is a song that someone thinks doesn’t fit or has a better suggestion for. we’ve absolutely added songs that aren’t in the master playlist before, especially ones we stumble across and realize would be perfect for a chapter.

ok so obv we've got ideas abt the various castles, and i do think they're an independent thing, but being who i am, since doing that pc on the fens, i got thinking abt the more average buildings -- peasant homes and barns and such! -- throughout astaira -- and idk i wanted to hear your thoughts!! anyway, this one is def gonna focus on sorta general thoughts abt mostly housing, and is largely inspired by native irish (but also welsh, scottish, and breton) architecture! but a few of them are pure fantasy too bc, well, why not! ;D

i feel like a lot of these pop up throughout astaira, but i was just tryna think in terms of like...places of origin and/or where you might see them most?

BARROWS -- ok so...think of a hobbit hole! that is basically what a barrow is. the term has been used largely to delineate burial mounds, in more recent centuries, bc that's largely what've survived as architecture evolved, but just look at skara brae! and laura ingells wilder! and i just feel like this ~has to be a big thing in malconaire!! i mean, what could be more ~earth elemental culture~ than literally living in the side of a hill???? its just so them coded idek!!! anyway they're also probs scattered ~throughout astaira but i can see where they may have originated in malconaire? also hc that a lot of the malconaire barrows have a tree growing out of/through them sprouting from atop (along w a garden im sure!), and tending to their home tree is a big cultural practice <3

CLOCHAIN -- so these are those famous rock ~beehive huts ireland! and they feel oh-so astairan to me! my main thought is that they are probs lorcan/kil-kennar: v rocky and high-up places where you can easily roll and even carry smaller stones over to your project etc! (i also feel like this is probs a popular design in hanthom along the coast, but i feel like they also get a ~lot of influences from that bygone place from across the sea both in hanthom and in calleary, but ill probs speculate more on ~that in other posts bc that isn't strictly astairan etc), anyway, i can see where the interior parts of the stones might be treated like mosaics and painted to give rooms artwork and/or carved w the names of the ppl who built the house perhaps as a cultural practice so later generations can still say their names and welcome them back inside for samain?

CRANNOGS -- this defffff feels like a big fen thing, but i can also see where you might see a lot of these in lorcan w its lakes and loches etc! somewhat related to both dams and roundhouses, these stilted homes tend to be wooden and perch upon still(ish) inland bodies of water and/or islands, some of them even man-made, and feature outer porches w a thatch-roofed interior w a long, narrow path leading from ground out to it to meet the porch. i like to hc in our verse that they also have lil water-access bits so boats can come right up to them, and they can climb a lil rope ladder in <3 and that they have lil watergarden root plants and flowers and such that they grow beneath, to cultivate both vegetable and fish/aquatic life both for food and pleasure

COTTAGES -- whether stone or wattle-and-daubt or straight up wood, i feel like all astaira is rife w your charming traditional cottage <3 i like to think they all have a lil like...~home altar where you can make offerings to any local guardians taht might be in want, wandering abt locally at any given moment, or living in your home too!

DAMS -- ok so hear me out! this one's largely a fantasy kinda thing (at least as far as ~i know?) but i read narnia as a kid and i just KNOW beavers live pr rad lives in those things ;D and i don't see why an even more inventive creature -- a human -- couldn't as well! ;D and, when you think abt it, isn't that effectively just what a mill is??? anyway i feel like this is another thing you probs see largely in the fens/lorcan and probs any river counties we've yet to invent as well! and just like a heaver's dam, they have both a terrestrial and aquatic entrance, so you can swim in or walk in etc! i also def feel like water wheels tend to be a thing here like w your traditional mill and just!! yes!!

FLOATING HOUSES -- ok so this feels hanthom/calleary as well as fens and perhaps a few in lorcan, and is, basically, a houseboat concept, but fantasy! but basically these are houses that just sort of float along on the waves and you travel while at home <3 i doubt you'd want to do super choppy waters this way, so you probs try to largely keep to harbors and such but on clear days you can go wherever! this is also super convenient when your home gets suddenly invaded and you can just...float away ;D

ROUNDHOUSES -- so this is another thing that i think you'll be seeing everywhere! the body of this house is round and that's basically what defines a roundhouse! its usually wattle-and-daubt w a thatched roof, and generally single storey, tho there are examples of multi-storey ones as well as some that are basically a giant donut w a courtyard at the center, which tend to have interior porches overlooking the courtyard if multi-storey, so they legit come in all shapes and sizes! i feel like the multi-storey w courtyard thing may be pr popular in stafford for its night sky possibilites!

TOWERHOUSES -- this is probs a lil rarer bc itd deffffff be a richer kinda house. irl this is where you would get your knight- and baron-class kinda folks living, esp bc it was largely defensive, etc, so since astairan society is much less stratified, id guess these are quite new but becoming more and more popular, as im ~guessing this is a largely varmont thing, and they're meant to lookout against invaders/quell the public/etc! they're made of stone w wooden steps up to the second storey entrance, so that you can burn the stairs and be left safe inside while invaders can't really get in at all etc -- however! i can also see where there may be a few old astairan examples in places w lots of trees and rocks (such as lorcan) so that basically you can have a tall, narrow house, going straight up rather than spreading out on the ground, but these probs have a ground-level entry as they weren't design-built to guard against your neighbors. i also feel like this may be a thing in stafford -- loving up amongst the stars/in the sky as much as possible, and the varmonts were probs initially quite intimidated seeing all these towerhouses and thinking them these shrines to invincibility!!! until they saw the ground floor entries and were like ????? lakjflkjsfkjl

TREE HOMES -- this is another real (and ancient! esp in new guinea and india!) thing! there're sort of two types of which im aware -- one where you build your home amongst the branches of a tree (or trees!), and another where you effectively hollow out a huuuuge tree and live in there! either way, this ~also def feels like a suuuuper malconaire kinda thing to do!!! but in terms of the homes up amongst the branches, i'd venture this is also pr common in, say, the fens or on riverbanks where the ground is less solid/prone to flooding/inhospitable in some way

Loki season 2 episode 6 kicked. My. Ass.

Spoilers below the cut;

I have never burst into tears like that before, it was during loki taking all the multiverse threads or whatever and just waltzing his way on up that I just started bawling my eyes out. I didn’t even know what I was feeling, tears just started falling down my cheeks as I was just blown away. I found this episode was amazing, the pace awesome, the way Loki was owning his shit and doing everything to keep everyone safe awesome, the music and just everything technical that went into this episode, a w e s o m e.

The way they showed his delemma and his struggle coming to terms what he had to do, it was either let everyone he cared about and the entire multiverse die, or killing one of the only people he has ever felt a connection to in his life (cause while I don’t like the selfcest I do like how they were able to truly understand one another). Him going back to Mobius and asking him how to take comfort in killing and being told “there is no comfort, you just gotta chose which burden to carry” and so he choses the hardest option; sacrificing himself so that everyone he loves lives and is able to live the lives they want with nothing holding them back (and a nice bonus being everyone in the multiverse gets freedom, but we know WHO he was doing it for) but giving into his greatest fear of being alone. He chose the struggle of having to stay behind and keep everything in order so that the people he loves gets a chance while damning himself to a literal eternity alone. Cause idk about you but I don’t think anyone’s getting to him any time soon, idek where HE is. The old “he who remains” spot probably? But that’s a huge ass tree man Idk…Also the music, tension, lighting and just everything with that scene felt so powerful and made me really feel like “oh shit this is it??”

And the way his sacrifice SHOWED AFTER!? The change from the mechanical vibes of everything just doing what needs to be done, the path always being paved, no freedom into a living breathing thing where it’s shown that Loki has made it so the mindset is to help the multiverse grow and to nourish it. It was beautiful, and just the change from the war room having like what 3 ppl? With one being stuck in the last, one asleep, and the one who actually was like yeah let’s move forward with fuckin freedom?? To a whole ass room of people being busy and showing to actually out in effort to make this work and allowing there to be freedom and no genocides (is that the right word?) happening just because someone stepped on the wrong leaf. After season 1 being filled with this oppressing air of a bureaucracy, there being an almighty and those who carry out their every whim without questions, it was so refreshing to see that there’s actual life to it now. All because of my BABY 😭😭

And then there’s Mobius’s scene, where after the entire season, if not the entire series, of him saying that he’s okay with what he has and how he just wants to focus on the now, to the how he’s scared he’ll see something good and have the temptation to go and try to live it for himself, he finally lets go. After Loki’s gone (ig there’s still gonna be a jet ski unused 😔😔), he’s just shown waiting around, finally ready to see his life on the time line and finally take his life fully into his hands. The MUSIC!! THE LIGHTING!! THE SOUND!! All of it was like a punch to the gut cause he just was gonna stand there and let time pass, im gonna sob my fucking eyes out AGAIN!! He finally is just able to live and breath, take his time looking at what he was protecting without the constant stress of the job waging on him, finally at peace after like 500+ years!!! And omg, his story about how he used to be a hunter but was too scared of killing a kid even though they were gonna be the cause of 5000 deaths was so beautifully done, I just felt like it reinforced how he was always the outliner of the TVA, his wake up moment after probably centuries of just doing his job. God he is just so JAMSKDNALS Y!KMKW!? LOVE THAT GUY!!

I also just loved all the characters this season, everyone felt so charming and I loved everyone. Tho I still have a love/hate relationship with sylvie, but after rewatching s1 im leaning more to the love side. Cause she just sticks to her ideals and she’s like traumatized so can I really say anything? She’s cool af, bad ass for sure!! And I’VE LOVED LOKI FROM THE START, 2012 (DIDNT WATCH THE THOR MOVIES) - TO NOW BBY!! Tho after seeing some edits I think ima watch them all, apparently they’re like, hidden gems. plant powers tbh. wrt the lifespan thing, for the record im pretty staunchly anti-immortality anti-singularity etc. bc as i've made vash say as much, none of us will need forever. plus any sorta tech like that if it's ever possible is going to prioritize, if not exclusively save, those who can afford such a thing. but anyway the idea that i would get to live for as long as i want is appealing.

i'm not thinking of a longer lifespan as a safety net for failures, cause i think i'd appreciate being imperfect with a longer lifespan, but rather thinking of it in terms of how i could then guarantee there's more good that i'll be putting out into the world. i'd probably have to take a page out of vash's book and travel around a lot so that people don't realize the same 20-something's been around for centuries but eh. idk maybe my feelings would change 300 years in, who knows

made a face like i licked a lemon reading this question bro i wont lie. the same reasons i connect to vash are the same reasons i avoided trigun for many many years. i was afraid (trigun maximum) vash's character would hit too close to home. particularly the twin stuff, even before knowing that vash would lose his own brother, too—being a lifelong lone twin myself. in comparison to maximum, stampede emphasizes much more on the twins, and even besides that, a lot of vash's deal in stampede feels uncannily similar to my own experiences. um you ever bump into a fictional character you feel completely #read by and just want to fucking run and leave and forget for as long as you can. well. yeah it was like that except now i'm much more able to handle this shit so i'm here now

sharing the same personality as him (in vash so far i definitely see a lot of who i used to be as well, when i was so much more of a self-deprecating people-pleaser bc i believed so much in my own worthlessness), the twin bereavement thing, wearing glasses (myopic deadeye), preferring revolvers (when he spun the cylinder while loading bullets in i was like omgg hes just like me fr), thinking nicholas d wolfwood is hot, all these connections definitely inform my interpretation and portrayal of vash. and i kin the guy but that's obvious enough

ok in my opinion. and also this is going to sound hilariously ridiculous without the context of trigun maximum but whatever. it looks like orange is ultimately going to turn vash into a giant apple tree or otherwise use the last of his lifespan to save his brother. i'm not completely set on how i feel about that, given that not even a little teaser for the final phase season is out yet! but for how i feel right now at least, i think that fate is pretty fitting. can't say whether that's exactly either a reward or punishment though

spirale-wise it's so much harder to say lol, i'm not writing vash keeping an ultimate endpoint in mind or ever considered one for him…

I miss being into diabolik lovers sometimes I really do. Having been a fan of it pretty much since before more blood came out when it was the newest fucked up otome game on the market made it have such a unique air to it, and Satoi's gorgeous artwork just made it all the more special. I really do think Satoi's art made DL better, and I don't know what happened but it feels like after dark fate was released that everything just. Sucked. (i hated chaos lineage specifically because I was so delusionally upset over the Mukami brothers being split apart so I never bothered to properly check it out LOOOOL)

Idk im just rambling right now but I personally feel like after dark fate released that it just became really... idk... Overdone? Would that be the right word? I didn't really care when lost eden was released or kino and his lore at all. I felt that the original Sakamakis, Mukamis, and the Tsukinamis were more than enough. I was a really big lorehead when it came to DL for the longest time and some of the shit in lost eden just had me so like.. what!!! What is going on!!

And at this point, 4 games in, the Sakamakis had become stale and the Mukamis close behind which made me just feel more tired than anything. It's been years since I've read the routes so my memory is incredibly hazy but I really feel like everything tied up nicely by the end of more blood, in terms of characters coming to terms with their traumas and whatnot. I honestly feel like they should have ended the avtual dating sim game aspect with more blood and then just have dark fate be like.. man idek at that point I was so invested in the lore and characters that I would've rather had a full visual novel with branching paths than an otome game with different routes haha. Okay nvm i know they're basically the same thing but in my mind they are distinctly different s trust me on this

I think what I really miss was when dialovers was a new series. I remember being so excited when dark fate was being released and checking the site almost daily for any updates about it, and now I'm just kinda sad that i don't have this drive anymore. I was looking at merch earlier and again I honestly feel like the better merch is the stuff prior to 2017, cause whenever I see rejet releasing new DL stuff now i just feel so horrible to that dead horse they've been beating. Should've been done and buried years ago
