Hello Tumblr! I had an idea to share 2 ocs in the form of short comics, and random yap seshes at 2am haha. I absolutely will be using this as my notes app if thats alright (hopefully I can organize it so its not everywhere tho ^^")
Getting set up was not too bad and we are already looking nice!
I hope to share and interact with anyone interested in these two :D as well as hear about anyones ocs! Maybe be moots!

what is it like to be kind of popular/getting people interested in your own ideas and not fan art?
I don't think I'm popular *looks behind my back fearfully* 😨
Here's the thing. A lot of people post things and just expect people to find them and interact with them. To some people it works. But a lot of the time there's no way for people to even find your stuff or engage with it.
A lot of people go into fandom tags to look for art and writing, but not a lot of people just scroll the "oc" or "art" or "writing" tags aimlessly.
I'm not like. A social media expert 😼 or whatever. I don't know anything about anything ♥️ I literally just do whatever weurd things i want and that's it
Here's some things I can advise:
If you have ocs.... Please feel free to actually talk about them in detail, share your thoughts on them in detail, write actual info and profiles on them. Don't be shy to do this bc there's no way for someone to engage with your ocs if they don't really understand who you're talking about except the names 😭... Feel free to like link their info in your pinned or their toyhouse profiles or whatever... !!!! A lot of the times I follow someone and they ask to engage with their ocs, and I want to, but I literally just don't understand who they're taking about... Or I see someone talking about their ocs in very vague terms but I can't actually find who they're talking about.... (Not that you have to do this do whatever you want ... I'm not the boss of you ♥️ it's just something id like to see) And also don't be shy to actually remind people who you're talking about bc people who haven't been following you for a long time won't know. I think this is simpler for me because my concepts/characters are very basic/shallow and easy to understand. Taur who is a bee, taur who is a bath, etc... Is Inherently understandable and doesn't have any deep lore
👆 this applies to everything in general not just ocs. Talk about art. Talk about your own art. Talk about what you love in the art of others. Talk about your plans and concepts and ideas. Talk about your projects. Share with the world 🌍 🌍 🌍
Don't be shy to talk about your things. I think some people are anxious about seeing people unfollowing them. I personally use xkit to hide my followers on pc and actively avoid looking at my follower count on mobile... Because idgaf ♥️. If someone doesn't like what I post they're Nothing to me. I post about taurs and weird things basically every day. What do I have to lose? My dignity as a Tumblr blogger? Genuinely like just share whatever thoughts or concepts or doodles or drawings you want without being like "aww nobody wants to see this". Honestly I also do this because I don't have friends to talk about concepts and stuff with so your mileage may vary. Maybe you don't want to post. Maybe you worldbuild with your friends. Then maybe you can share the results of that worldbuilding and thoughts, that's good too.
Self reblog your stuff 😭 even old stuff. Self reblog your stuff and then elaborate on it further with your thoughts. Dig up old concepts and do things with them. Its okay to do this. Not everyone sees your stuff when you first post it... !
Actually engage with others. Others are more likely to see you and engage with you when you do the same to them. If you never interact with anyone else's art why would others interact with yours. And unfortunately posting stuff and expecting people to just stumble upon it is not a very good strategy...

wibta for using characters that might be too similar to ex friends for my own writing/art?
background: i had a lot of friendships that ended very badly while i was in an extremely compromised state. for a lot of them it ended with them giving me a very vague wall of text about my behaviour without explicitly telling me what i did wrong, so i feel i cannot apologize in any meaningful way, and i cannot contact them first, so instead tried my best to cut myself down as small as possible so they would never see me again. this still confuses me, and ive entertained the thought they were 'too scared' to tell me what i did wrong beforehand, but if thats the case, i was too, but i was the only one wanting to work things out. that isn't the point of this, though.
with a lot of these people i did something like collaborative worldbuilding. some of these concepts, ocs and oc ships i was very very invested in while i was at rock bottom, sort of coping with them, though the interest never felt reciprocated despite my efforts to stoke it (neither was i told to stop, though). i wrote a lot for some of them, as certain characters had a lot of stylings of archetypes im very fond of and tend to write over and over again (partially cos they remind me a lot of myself, if i can project) regardless of their involvement.
with the rug pulled out from under my feet irt that i didnt really know what to do with my parts from all that (going from thinking about them almost once a day to having to stop myself from ever thinking of it again was. extremely hard) and even thought about trashing the characters i had. after months of deliberating and trying to refocus the characters to be single and building up casts of all my own characters, i ended up liking the chemistry between some of them and the old ocs i almost threw away and decided to work that angle. the more i focused on these new characters (which id created to be a vent pit for the feelings i was trying to sort out irt all this) the more they fit into those archetypes i love, but i tried to lead them away from the ex friends characters.
but i did give one character brain damage, while i was trying to figure out what mine had done to me. ive been coping with it and what it did to me through them, but i remembered one ex friend gave their character brain damage as well. it feels like a sort of stand out trait and im worried if they ever see my shit again they will look at this and the archetype and use this as evidence im trying to steal their character or something. im not sure what is too similar. fwiw when they cut people off before in this sort of situation i know they would make fun of and kill off the other person's characters, so i know they've probably done that to expies of mine (one person liked to joke about doing this to one of my happier characters while we were still talking). for my part all i did was axe theirs from the story entirely.
tldr: i accidentally created characters that have similarities to ex friends' to fill in the holes for characters i didn't want to throw out. if i keep them, will i be an asshole?
What are these acronyms?

talk shop tuesday!!!! I love love LOVED your piece for the tea toast & ghosts zine – what was your experience in planning and creating it? was it a challenge to combine both art and writing, and did your art influence your writing or vice versa? I'd love to hear about your thought process in the creation of that really cool piece :D
thank you so much! it's really nice to hear especially since it's my first posted writing!
if im being honest i wanted to write an article from the very beginning, it was the overall idea that was ever changing but eventually i found it. since TTG zine's topic was your favourite thing about l&co, and i had no idea how to incorporate skullyle and it was too much work to come up with technical parts of ghost-lamps (tho i did dive deep into street lights' wiring at one point), i figured i'd stick to my favourite thing of all - worldbuilding and dark stuff!
The Idea™, at first, was to come up with a few cases and illustrate them, but the longer i rotated those the more i didn't like the prospect of making something separate and not rooted into canon. so i skimmed through the books while looking for any mentions of Fittes and Rotwell cases, since back then i already decided to use the Mud Lane Phantom's story. the other two i took are from TSS and THB and they were vague enough to be able to lengthen them to an article entry.
i outlined ideas first, what themes i wanted to convey, what i wanted to put out there for fans and how these cases would've work with each other. from the that point i started drawing the illustrations. quite a backwards process. and it all sounds good on paper but in reality irl struggles really weren't making me any favours and i wasn't meeting deadlines at all, but mods team was patient and understanding with me, they are literally the best!
for Mud Lane i went for slight mockery of pioneers because, well, yeah. there was quite a lot of made up lore that i decided to cast aside (like what if "today" at the crossroad there's a statue of Fittes and Rotwell? a museum? a tourist attraction? a gift shop?). overall im just really proud of illustration that i did, i should draw more of Marissa and Tom at some point.
fun fact and easter egg of sorts: Marissa's pose was supposed to be an homage to first poster of the series and the way Lucy stands in it! i think it got lost along the way as i changed the pose but i think it's still readable enough. i love drawing parallels between the two (:
[id: a side by side of Marissa in illustration, where she's holding her lantern with her right hand and looking beyond the viewer, and Lucy from the first Netflix' poster, where she stands in a simillar manner but points with her rapier at something out of view./end id]
picking one case set 50 years before the others ment that i'd have to contrast them, draw a parallel and make them work against each other to bring up the best and the worst. The Shoreditch one was, admittedly, more of that coming up with something that wasn't there in the first place. first book only mentioned patrols and i latched onto them. (plus i was drafting it at around the same time as l&co bigbang came out and i was massively inspired by my teammates work which incorporated those patrols but in metro tunnels. great case-fic btw). mainly i went for darker aspects of agent's work there, thinking that to fit in sewers the team would've been of smaller children, and that Kipps (yeah, he's there in illustration) would be as close to them as possible, unlike other inspectors we are used to seeing.
Holland Park Hounds was the one that i was the most excited for because wdym we as a fandom don't talk about possible animal-ghosts?? sure, it could've been Changer(s) but is it really? plus how badass of Holly to be part of it AND it was famous enough that Lucy knew of it as well!
Holly Munro pushed a stray hair or two behind her ear. ‘Well, I’ve seen some things. I was there in the Holland Park Cellar case, when our party got blockaded underground by those seven spectral dogs. It was quite a tight spot. And after that—’ ‘I heard about Holland Park, Holly, and I can tell you the thing that makes the bloody footprints is ten times worse. I’m only saying. I don’t want to frighten you. I just wouldn’t want you to get hurt.’ (THB)
innitially i wanted to do something about a horse-phantom that was mentioned somewhere but for the life of me i couldn't find it in books, so i'll leave it for my next reread. but this case has so much more ties to the main gang and especially Holly herself. i really wanted to draw a picture of her and her team after the case but no composition really worked so i kept it to park's plan (my urban planer friend said it looked good even). plus giving a plan and thorough haunting information somehow felt very Rotwell to me.
aaand i think that's it! not much to say for back cover only that my friend really disliked my choice of comic sans for one of the adverts. and that i wanted to make it gritty, as if its a wall right around the corner of the Fittes ball court.
#wow that took a lot of time to put into words#wouldn't have done it without this ask tho so thank u so much!!#l&co#lockwood and co#ttg zine#described#inbox#talk shop tuesday#blogposting

OCtober 2024 ⭐ Day 4: Under-Appreciated OC
The first OC that comes to mind for this prompt is Juno, because she's supposed to be the main character, but I feel like she isn't as fleshed out as her friends. character traits that she has that i love:
does not give up, she will wear herself down to the point of exhaustion first
complex about trying to save/help as many people as possible, gets sad if she can't save someone
knows martial arts
she acts more chill and good-natured than Steve and Tora, who are really petty.
basically the caretaker of her friends, they go to her for advice, and she has to remind them to not do stupid shit.
usually shes the only sane man. but occasionally acts deranged. examples:
crazy determination, as previously stated
represses so much shit, to focus on fighting for the greater good
lowkey kind of a gun nut
every once in a while, the tables turn, and she does some stupid shit herself. and her friends have to step in for her. because thats what she did for them
attracted to stupid people
part of her arc is figuring out that her current boyfriend isn't right for her, and breaking up, and then getting a girlfriend.
so. much. angst.
i want her to be able to relax in the post canon. actually i want everyone to relax post canon. i think after you save an alternate version of earth, u should get paid at least enough to retire forever. i want them to be happy
also, if possible, id like to flesh out "Dale" more, and give him a different name. i want to also flesh out the other minor characters in hexagon. so far Dr. Moss, Terry, and Charlie all have their own toyhouse pages, but i have other vague ideas for background characters that i wanna make more concrete eventually.
anyway outside of hexagon, some other characters that should probably get fleshed out more:
the various ocs that i posted about on Day 2
Petra - shes part of her own fantasy world that i made ages ago but mostly forgot about
space robots - i love these guys so much!!! i feel like i should make a secret third space robot, like a dog that represents twilight
literally every other character in the untitled robot game (i ran out of character ideas)
since the alien cats are loosely based off of scientology lore. i think it would also be funny to base some of the robots off of lesswrong and e/acc ideas. im sorry, but cults have the best scifi worldbuilding.
ok but this is a bit of a random tangent but: scientology lore, especially the Xenu story, talks about powerful alien organizations that use psychological manipulation to oppress people. the church of scientology portrays itself as being the opposite of these organizations, but someone who is anti-scientology could also write about these organizations to make them allegories for the church. on a similar note you could also use the paperclip maximizer as a metaphor for big tech corporations that waste resources and hurt the environment. or use the ai box thought experiment as a metaphor for charismatic cult leaders.
also since my MCs are based off of vocaloids. i do plan to use vocaloid characters as inspo for some of the other characters, but not completely.
OCtober is by @bweirdart
(ps: i had a thing for day 3 all written out beforehand, but i forgot to post it cause i was so busy with schoolwork, so its under the cut)
OCtober 2024 Day 3: Old OC
technically i don't know who my oldest oc is, because ive literally been making up little guys in my head ever since I was capable of forming memories. but heres some honorable mentions:
when i was in ~5th grade i was obsessed with dragons, so i bugged my mom to sew me a dragon hoodie for halloween, and she did, and i had lots of fun. the dragon hoodie was so cool that in my head, i invented a story about girls wearing magical dragon & unicorn pajamas that turned them into those creatures in another world or something, i forget most of the details tho.
one time i was walking around the playground and talking to myself. and i came up with a story about dragon people living in this isolated town where nobody was allowed to leave. the town was ruled by this dragon named "Firelord" and it was surrounded by this huge ring of fire. some dragon kids escaped though, to figure out what was actually going on.
it turned out that Firelord was one of four quadruplets with magical powers, they were Earthlord, Waterlord, Firelord, and Airlord. but they had an evil younger brother named Hypnolord, who wanted to take over the world, and had everyone trapped in his evil skyscraper prison. So Firelord made the town where nobody is allowed to leave, to protect everybody. fortunately the dragon kids defeated Hypnolord, and saved the day.
i was really into legos and dragons. so for my birthday my mom went on ebay and bought a bunch of the baby norbert lego figure in different colors. while listening to music i imagined them in music videos in my head, eventually each figure had like. its own personality.
also when lego elves came out, i bought all of the lego elves dragon sets. and each of those baby dragons also got their own personality too.
I had this oc Max, who was a stupid teenage boy, and his little sister Megan was like this child genius. originally Max was supposed to be super depressed and edgy, but eventually evolved to be totally different.
Max and Meg weren't actually related. they were adopted by a talking cat that was their dad. the cat was british
also sometimes Megan had this other friend who was a child serial killer. she had the same black hat as that one xkcd character that has that hat, becuase theyre both eeeeevil.
i drew so much fanart of them, i cringe to remember what my art style was like then
you can probably tell that i liked dragons as a child

i got tagged by @analogboii (cracks knuckles)
list 5 topics you can talk about for an hour without prepping any material
true crime. not only do i have an internal catalogue of actual true crime cases that i contain encyclopedic knowledge of, but i also can sit and talk for a long time about how true crime as a 'community' affects peoples perception of these incredibly serious cases
TTRPGS/TTRPG design and worldbuilding. like its tangentially related to my work so sort of cheating, but god there are so many good TTRPGs out there and i am a huge DND 5E hater so I love to inform people hey! more and better options exist for the kind of game you want to run!!! stop playing fucking dungeons and dragons save yourself
the decline of overwatch. have literally written an essay just to get my own brain worms out about it. as someone who was very involved in the competitive OW scene and invested thousands of hours into it, i can quote my most hated jeff kaplan statements
josei manhwa and otome isekai as a whole. i will read every shitty comic that comes my way in this genre because i love watching reading trends shift in real-time. normally im the type of media enjoyer that really loves heavily nuanced, allegorical content that i can sit and analyze but i love my trashy manhwa so much i could talk about my favorite series for fucking ever (loosely applies to anime, i am a reader first and foremost)
indie horror games. i love horror games that are weird and explore weird concepts, but i also love horror games that just explore the mundane. though i will say one of the worst things thats ever happened to me is finding out chillas art games are made by two guys
i could also have gone off on like 40 tangents here but i reeled it in. not pictured are the weird world history topics i know a lot about from years doing speech and debate
hi mutuals. normally i admire you from afar by liking every single post i see from you but id love to read your answers to this sooooo tagging @tiadraws @kikouku @transportgasdace
#hopefully is not weird to tag yall but hi uwu#also reading my own answers makes me understand how chronically a nerd i am. help

okay but why is it that literally everywhere that i see people discussing wings of fire, its to criticize it. like, when i dont see art the only stuff i see is people saying how much they hate pretty much every aspect of the books and how tui sucke and how arcs 2 and 3 are horrible and.... like, i get criticising things, even things you like, i mean im no stranger to liking things that have MANY issues, but damn wheres the love?
like, wheres people talking about the things they like about these books without feeling the need to preface it with 'these books are the worst thing ive ever seen'?
do you like the characters? the tribes? the concepts? the worldbuilding? anything?
like. i love these books so much. they definitely have issues because EVERYTHING does but i dont see what other people see that makes them act like these books are atrocious.
are people just ashamed to like a kids series or something? i just dont get it.
idk, maybe its just what the internet has given me, and there is a side of the fandom that manages to have discussions about these books that arent just acting like they hate them, id love to know how to get there.
i just dont get being in a fandom and acting like you despise the very thing that brought you there.
#my post#if you wanna be like 'what? you cant criticise the things you like?'#i want you to know THAT I LIKE WORLD OF WARCRAFT. THERE ARE MANY THINGS ABOUT THAT GAME THAT PISS ME OFF!!!!!#there is literally a species that is an outright caricature of a minority.#by all accounts i really shouldnt like that game. and yet i find myself drawn to it and i find things that are actually good despite that#i LOVE the large very explorable maps. i love the many species and the customization. i love the way every species has unique architecture#and even though its messy and i dont know most of it: the complicated and very long lore and story and all that is impressive nonetheless#and even just the environmental storytelling alone....#i got off track. my point was that you can dislike something and still find things to talk about loving in it#and idk im just sick of seeing EVERYONE hate this thing that i love. i love the wof books so so much#i thought we were all here because we love them....#wings of fire#also the caricature in wow is of a group i belong to im not like. ignoring a different groups issue. if anything im ignoring my own#but i dont ignore it!!! i think about it a lot actually!!!!! but no one is there to hear me scream lol. anyway thats still irrelevant#wof

#mARTch challenge day 2 - inspirations
Im writing since the things off this list that Id want to draw are a circle diagram with "favorite thing to draw"
Animals and plants are probably the biggest source of inspiration. Especially lesser known animals and weird plants. I like looking into flower symbolisim and stuff too, the idea of being able to communicate complicated ideas with a coded visual language is appealing to me. Tho probably not a lot of people know flower symbolisim of hand (i dont either) its just a way to guide myself in picking which flower... i feel similarly about gemstones and minerals. I like drawing them and i love looking at them, but i think its harder for me to capture the "essence of beauty" in a stone than a plant or animal. I think birds and fish are the most fun for me to draw and I love learning about them. They all have really different life cycles and "personalities". They can also be very colorful and I'm drawn to that. Same with insects, they are funny little guys, and they have great features to incorperate into other creatures.
Similar to animals I love mythological creatures. They are probably on of the most consistent and lasting sources of inspiration for both my art and writing. Its a pretty much never ending topic, its why i went with it as the theme for my long term comic project Tidal Lines. I also just love learning about and drawing weird little guys. Tsuchinoko are an eternal favorite. Dragons also, since they can be so many different ways. The dragons in breath of fire 4 are some of my favorite and a very early (like age 7) source of inspiration to draw and think about dragons.
Those are like the main inspiration for subjects i like to draw... in terms of actual drawing style its a bit more difficult to talk about since I tend to just draw "however it wants to be drawn" in the way that I can manage. In a sense the tactile elements of the medium are the inspiration. I love the way watercolors control, and love watching it and ink on the page. I dont do a lot of "style studies" and sometimes I think i really should.... Id like to be influenced by the art of yoshitoshi abe, range murata, clamp, miyazaki (especially the nausicaa comic and his pencil+water color style). I also would like to be able to draw in a more simple but appealing way, the style of digimon adventure is one I like a lot for that quality. I think once i list these out I can see the influences in my "style" but im not sure if one would think of it nessecarily... im always interested to hear what people think my art looks like and compaires to, since i feel like i can't really tell.
Oh, the way I draw noses is consiously chosen because of Secret Saturdays and early Soul Eater. Its changed a bit, because I wanted ways to get more variation, but its something in the way I draw faces that can be directly traced back to those styles.
I am also inspired just gennerally by the marriage of visual art and storytelling. I like being able to include character and worldbuilding details visually. In a sense it feels more naturalistic to present these sorts of details visually, and when I see nice examples of it in other works its really exciting. There is a lot of this in miyazaki's films.
I am also inspired by people who can get "messy" or scraggly lines to look good and give a vibe. Randal's friends is a comic that i think of, and I want to draw with more looseness and weirdness.
I am very much inspired by my friends who draw. Drawing together and working on our art and talking about it and showing each other is one of the main things that keeps me encouraged to keep drawing.
TLDR i am inspired by everything in the world, all beaings and stories and my friends :>

asking you because i seriously consider u one of the best writers i have. read? known exists? anyways im asking how much do u plan when u write? ik uve talked abt ur process (v funny i love how ur mind works id love to poke around [affectionately]) but like. how much do u Plan in Advance? ive been sitting on some ideas for a while and im trying to think down to the SLIGHTEST things and im jus v curious as to? how much you think abt urs b4 sitting down2 write?
I am glad you think I am funny because I think I am funny too.
(Haha but for real I literally jumped into the air. Thank you!)
Here is where I get shifty because I am not an artist, I never have been, I have never quite gotten a handle on the patience required to color inside the lines. Likewise...I am not a plotter.
In general, an Idea Arrives, and then I sit down and write. A lot of the time it starts out as a scene I'd like to read, and I write that scene for 20 minutes or two hours, and after that I roll the dice in the air. If I poke around it long enough, I am morally required to construct everything that had to happen to get me to the Inciting Scene. My favorite thing to write is dialogue, and to convey how someone said something/why they said it, then I have to know the characters a little more. Sort of like eavesdropping on a conversation, and then getting to know a stranger from it.
I have never plotted anything start to finish. I normally have an end or something close to the end, a few enticing snippets, and that's my map. I don't finish original work too often, but it's not abandoned, it's just reworked, reworked, reworked. I have a friend that has original work that won a big well known editing/pitch contest and now has her work in the Query Trenches, and if she was the writing FBI she would lock me in jail for disorderly conduct and missing plotting documents. She says I should try to at least write a first draft through and let that be my guide, but I'm like. Nah. I start a story and I keep writing it and backtracking and rewriting and backtracking and rewriting, but theoretically at the end I have a story I'm satisfied with--- and not a draft I thought was bad a quarter of the way in but kept mudslogging through it. It's not losing progress, it's just rerouting yourself the longer way home so you avoid future traffic.
"Kill your darlings" is a very famous piece of writing advice, and when I was starting out I thought it meant, like, literally killing your characters for the Drama. Now I understand it as if there's a scene I really like or really want to include...sometimes she just has to get sidelined. And that's okay. We can harvest her organs for later. Frankenstein that bitch.
Fanfiction is different. It's fun and loose and I entertain myself. Now you will not swell the rout was a bit more thoughtfully done, that is, I spent more time on it than just being awake at midnight because I thought of something funny. It was not plotted. I didn't know the story was there. I missed martial arts, and then happened to listen in on a conversation about the poem "To an Athlete Dying Young" (A.E. Housman). I didn't come up with Now you will not swell the rout as a fully-fleshed story then, I just added onto a snippet (literally the first three little paragraphs) and stuff connected and then two weeks went by in a mad haze and I had 30,000 words or whatever it was. After that, I've spoken previously that in hold the low lintel up (and now WIP#3) had some "plot" which are events in the comics I want to include, but I think that is more worldbuilding/keeping somewhat adjacent to the source material. Everything original is just up in my head or stored in a random line I want to remember to use later.
(Literally my "plot" bookmark in my google doc is Plot hey here’s a good line and then I proceed to write one very good sentence and seven disembodied dialogue fragments that don't belong together at all).
In the spirit of honesty, I wrote the last line of Now you will not swell the rout and that was supposed to be it. But the fic had such a lovely reception, and I really felt like I grew while I wrote it, and like look there was one big glaring unanswered question just sitting there, right, so. Now I have a series. And 100% of the reason I'm not uploading chapter by chapter is because I know I am not a plotter, I know I'll change things, and I really want to take my time with this and use it as experience for my original work.
So that was way more than you probably meant to ask for, but. In sum: no, I don't plan in advance, I just take a stab and commit literary medical malpractice. Some writing books will have whole sections on plotting, and will have you detail your characters' birthdate, favorite song, food, music, what's the name of their first dog, etc. A lot of people have to have that solid basis ("organization" my writer friend calls it, pfft). I know, personally, that if I go down that rabbit hole I will not get anything done. I will get stuck.
So if you are honest with yourself and won't get stuck making the ideal macaroni map, send plotting advice for the rest of us homies out there ✌️
SVEG OUT
#please do not hold this against me when I am bestselling in 5 years#thank you#I'm sorry I've been practicing when I do booksignings

~ 15 questions & 15 friends ~
tagged by my much beloved @czarcaustic <3
1. Are you named after anyone?
My grandfather!! Courtney was his middle name. (That spelling was originally the masculine form of the name, though it's pretty rare to see it used as such these days.) My middle name is also a family name :)
2. When was the last time you cried?
Uhh... oh it was a couple nights ago, when talking with my parents about my Nana. I still miss her a lot
3. Do you have kids?
Nope. At this stage of my life I can't say it feels super likely ever to happen, though I'd be lying if I said I don't feel a twinge of Something when I meet babies at work lol.
4. What sports do you play/have you played?
lmao I have never played any. I am extremely unathletic by nature, and also always struggled to get my brain around the rules of pretty much any of them when I was like, a kid in gym class
5. Do you use sarcasm?
Sure, but not a lot? Probably an average amount I figure
6. What is the first thing you notice about people?
Man, I dunno - probably their faces or their clothes, depending on context?
7. What's your eye color?
Brown!
8. Scary movies or happy endings?
Big big fan of both! I'm not a big sad endings guy, though. Even when it feels right for the story, it's usually not my jam. (I guess sometimes sad endings can be good for scary movies, but that's like... sort of its own thing? because it's about The Horror.)
9. Any talents?
This is always a hard question for me to answer, bc I feel like most of the things I'm good at are more skills than talents - they're things I've practiced and developed over time, like with my writing and art. Although I guess it'd be fair, if unusual maybe, to say I've got a couple naturally strong interpersonal skills. I'm very good at communication, including figuring out what other people are trying to say, and I'm also pretty good at making people feel comfortable and understood.
10. Where were you born?
In southern Ontario, in the city where both of my parents did most of their growing up :)
11. What are your hobbies?
Writing (fiction prose, mostly) and the many kinds of thinking that go with it (worldbuilding, character development, etc). Arts and crafts (of many kinds; I'm often bouncing from one thing to another. Currently I'm having lots of fun learning to crochet). Taking in stories (reading books and comics, watching movies and TV, playing games, listening to podcasts - I love stories in all their forms). Goofing off with my family, especially my younger siblings.
12. Do you have any pets?
We have three cats - Neverland, Louie, and Smudge :)
13. How tall are you?
Uhh my ID says 165 cm, so that's... 5'5"-ish? I'm genuinely so incapable of remembering that on my own, for some reason.
14. Favorite subject in school?
It was usually English and art, growing up. In university it was always my courses that delved into genre fiction - science fiction, children's lit, the fairy tale... also that graphic novel seminar I took
15. Dream job?
Iiii. [sweats] I wanna be a novelist, but also, that's hard in its own way, and I think it's gonna take me a while yet to really Get There in terms of my own skills, disregarding the challenges of publishing. Beyond that... is something I've been struggling a lot with lately, because it's hard for me to imagine myself in a job where I'm both content and competent, let alone able to support myself. I've been wondering a lot again about library sciences, lately, but I just don't know. It's tough out here!
I definitely don't have 15 people to tag, but. @izupie @werewolfin @serenabeanie @womanaction @mana-sputachu perhaps, if you're feelin' it?

1 6 10 17 for orv? (<- guy who is refraining from sending the whole list) 🤔
1- the character everyone gets wrong
hmmm id say dokja and yjh... ppl who really love other characters usually understand them pretty well!! KDJ n YJH become a big issue in this fandom because of how fucking popular they are, especially together. yjh for me is mostly because they take away a lot from her character, making her a cardboard cutout ( ex. the grumpy one who is secretly a baby) and i DESPISE how so many ppl think his character is centered around kdj only.there is also this. growing trend of people woobifying him in a way thats like weirdly ableist to me and i fuckingHATE IT SO MUCH!!!!!! Now when it comes to dokja the complaints get very personal because yknow. hes the reader. its ok to project on him how you like. but i find it SO. FUCKING TASTELESS!!!!!! i dont like how hes presented in the manhwa at all for example and i have a grudge against ppl who draw him very conventionally pretty. when people talk about the way he Cares it feels so shallow and it just Annoys tf out of me (sorry for sounding pretentious bc im not explaining myself clearly)....
6- which ship fans are the most annoying?
the answer here is obvious... joongdok...(for reasons i said above + i hate hsy exclusion + yoohankim throuple better) i have a very special hatred for the ones that wanna die on the "non-reversible" side too (but this ones also an irrational opinion that i have). AND SPOD. FUCK. they say that OD is millions of years old which sure. chronologically (which even then. not exactly true!!! if youve read orv youll know that as the oldest dream time flows in a way that cant be exactly "percieved" despite the wall just giving u a close number) + OD IS CANONICALLY. MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY A CHILD. THEY DISCUSS ON WHOS GOING TO HIS PARENT MEET OR WHATEVER. AT SCHOOL!!!!!!! THATS A KID!!!!!!!!! and if u explain that to them they hit you with the "let people ship what they want, its fiction!" which. what the fuck ever....... i always block these ppl for my own sanity.
10- worst part of fanon
i guess... mischaracterization??? i also dislike how everything is sooo centered around kdj & yjh (ITS GETTING BETTER THO!). i dont like when people insist on jhw and hsy are kdj's siblings. or when they make hsy a thirdwheel. complicated stuff going on here hrmmmmm...
17- there should be more of this type of fic/art
i want more fucked up existential fics. need them so bad. urm..more fics without ships, i especially would love to read stuff with more worldbuilding or writing WOS scenes :3 when it comes to art i just need more yhk and soohee art. im fucking desperate actually like if i had money id spend 3/4 on soohee/yhk commissions On my balls

Top 5 anime you think are criminally underrated!
This is a really good question, and it was VERY difficult to keep myself to only 5. These are all anime that I think deserve a much wider viewership! (Plus five more!)
I ended up spending waaayyyy longer on this than I thought, I can’t imagine how much I would have written if you’d said top 10. I can literally talk about anime forever. Here’s some I wholeheartedly recommend.
1. Shojo Kageki Revue Starlight (Action, drama, romance)
This is my newest love, as of yesterday, when I binged the whole thing. The best way I can describe it is by mashing up other anime. Take Revolutionary Girl Utena, iron out about three layers of metaphor, and trim off all of the dark themes related to the Rose Bride. Then throw it in a blender with Madoka Magica and Love Live!, add half a cup of Gay Concentrate, and serve up the result: A character-driven drama about girls at a performing arts school, who settle their differences in magical-girl-fantasy duels styled as impossibly gorgeous theatrical stage-combat musical numbers. Beyond the flash and high concept, there’s a well-written cast, solid emotional core, and really engaging plot.
2. The Eccentric Family (Drama, comedy)
This show is my favorite genre of fantasy; mythical creatures living in the modern world, right under humans’ noses. In this series, humans only know tanuki as the cute little raccoon-dogs, but tanuki are really sentient shapeshifters whose goals are to outsmart the humans who live in the cities, pester the tengu who rule the heavens, live a life of freedom and trickery, and not end up on the inside of a hunter’s trap. The story follows a family of a mother and four sons whose widely-respected father was killed to end up in a human’s hot pot, as they try to enjoy their lives, live up to his imposing reputation, and unravel the increasingly suspicious circumstances of his death.
I have called this one “deceptively light-hearted” when describing it. My friend got halfway through the first season and came back to me with the verdict, “consider me fucking deceived.” This show has weight and does not pull its emotional punches, but neither does it ever stumble into becoming grimdark. Its worldbuilding is solid and the characters are all fantastically developed. Plus I wrote a whole post about one of the main antagonists(?) who I hadn’t even mentioned here.
3. Dennou Coil (Mystery, sci-fi)
Dennou Coil is a masterclass in worldbuilding, in my opinion. It’s a near-future sci-fi world, basically if Google Glass had taken off and become as common as cell phones are today. Many people don’t see the real world, they see the virtual textures of the world as they’re rendered through the glasses. Kids in one city have learned to mess around with codes, collecting tradeable fragments that break off the edges where the system glitches, chasing viruses that hide in pockets of obselete code in abandoned areas of the city where the software doesn’t get updated often. They spend their time after school saving virtual pets from being accidentally deleted by the city’s antivirus, trading tall tales about kids who get caught by the antivirus and get their glasses bricked, and spinning urban legends about ghosts waiting just behind anything that’s visibly rendered, waiting to steal kids when they least expect it. Every detail they introduce is critical to laying the foundation for the mystery that forms the show’s plot.
Everything about this world feels real in a way I’ve never seen in a sci-fi anime. It’s all grounded in a clear understanding of programming, and lives by show-don’t-tell. The stakes aren’t life-and-death; the kids tagging glitches like graffiti to distract the city’s antivirus software are only at risk of ruining their glasses, at least at first. The plot and escalation is perfectly-paced, and the mystery is so satisfying to piece together as it unfolds.
4. ID:Invaded (Sci-fi, action, thriller, murder mystery)
This show is like Psycho-Pass meets Silence of the Lambs. To catch a serial killer, you need to think like a killer, and nobody does that better than killers. A contraption called an “id well” can manifest an uncaught killer’s unconscious mind as a bizarre, unique, deadly terrain driven by stream-of-consciousness, and convicted murderers turned “detectives” dive into these wells to try to solve the mystery each well presents and discern the identity of other killers before they can strike again.
This show is a tightly-written, perfectly paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller. The two layers of mysteries inside and outside of the wells balance high-octane, big-screen action with tight, tense realism. Plus the soundtrack is an absolute banger.
5. Ping Pong the Animation (drama, sports)
Imagine if I told you that there was a show that, in 11 episodes, unpacked how patterns of relationships are repeated across generations, how the tradeoff between talent, practice, and who you are outside of your achievements can scar the spirits of kids, and what it feels like to wrestle with the tension between your core understanding of yourself and how others expect you to be. Imagine if I told you that every major character goes through massive restructurings of their fundamental sense of self and how they see others, and that every single arc comes to a well-rounded and satisfying end. Imagine if the animation style pushed the limits of both realism and absurdity, landing somewhere between rotoscoping and caricature, pushing the impact of action and stretching the character’s expressiveness without betraying faces that are animated like real human people. Imagine that it had a dub so fantastic that it sits next to Baccano and Cowboy Bebop in my mind, shows where the cast threw themselves into their roles with their whole hearts.
Now imagine that I told you that this story is told in the context of high schoolers playing ping pong, and that it’s arguably the best show I’ve ever seen. Go watch this show.
#my posts#my asks#anime recommendations#shojo kageki revue starlight#the eccentric family#dennou coil#id:invaded#ping pong the animation#i understand that the obvious answer includes baccano but everyone who follows me knows abt it by now#ones that almost made the cut:#acca-13 and Sora no Woto and Stars Align#and Princess Jellyfish and Sarazanmai and Kakushigoto#yupuffin

hello i would like to hear abt isn't it beautiful and monsters in the closet
hi hi hello!!! :D thank you for asking!
okay, so "it's beautiful, isn't it?" is an out-of-context little scene i wrote that takes place in a larger story that STARTED as a warrior cats fanfiction but then i decided to give it more original worldbuilding and move it somewhere else. now it's its own animal fantasy :D i included it as a WIP because it's meant to be part of a larger story, even if i haven't really figured out how it fits yet.
i won't share the whole thing, but here's my favorite part of it:
“Isn’t it beautiful?” they asked again.
He didn’t know what they were talking about, but he knew in his heart the answer they were hoping for. Carefully, he stood to his full height, his expression solemn but sympathetic.
He knew what it was like to grieve, after all.
“It is,” he said. The cat seemed satisfied with that answer, but they offered no more words as they continued to stare at him. He met their eyes without fear, as much as the grief he saw before him threatened to drag him back down into the whirlpool.
“I’m not him,” he said, and then he spoke the cat’s name. The word was strange and alien on his tongue, the syllables unpronounceable for a mortal such as himself, and even as he said the ancient word it faded from his mind. Part of him knew his mind was trying to protect him by forcing him to forget, as much as he desperately wanted to remember.
The other cat turned their head away from him, their hollow gaze once again falling on the water lapping at their paws, at the stars dancing beneath them.
“And isn’t that a tragedy?” they murmured, just loud enough for him to hear.
i didn't know the context of this when i first wrote it, but i do know the context now! that's a secret though ;3c
as for Monsters in the Closet, that's a little thing that i kinda started for fun and i'm not really sure if it's going anywhere, but it's another installment of My Favorite Thing To Write About Is Trauma. it's loosely inspired by this silly found-footage horror show i liked growing up called Lost Tapes. is Lost Tapes good? oh absolutely not, not by any stretch of the imagination. do i like some of the concepts it brings up? yeah <3
so Monsters in the Closet, if it ever happens, would center around a character chasing after monsters and cryptids to try and prove that monsters are real, to varying degrees of success. and because this is me and i love exploring trauma and mental illness in my stories, a lot of it would also center around that! something something monsters and cryptids as metaphors for suppressed grief and trauma <3
also i went looking and i found some concept art i drew for the protagonists of Monsters in the Closet when i first conceptualized it
[Image Description: Two bust drawings of two different characters with pointed ears, labeled Sentinel and Stephen. Sentinel, at the top of the image and looking slightly to the left, is pale-skinned and has shaggy brown hair with dyed orange bangs. They have green eyes and scars across their face. Sentinel is wearing a heart-shaped choker and a black tank top. At the bottom of the image and looking to the right is Stephen, a brown-skinned man with dark spiky hair with dyed red streaks through it. He has blue eyes, a light dusting of facial hair, and three miles on his right cheek. He’s wearing a dark shirt and a light jacket with a furred hood. Information next to both characters state that Sentinel uses they/them pronouns, is 5′6″, and is 19 years old; Stephen, meanwhile, uses he/him pronouns, is 5′10″, and is 21 years old. End ID.]
anyway thank u for the ask!
#talk to the bunnykitty#bat time all the time#funny enough. realizing now monsters in the closet has a lot in common with 21st century magician#i have one theme i like to tackle (mental illness and trauma) and it bounces between all my wips like a ping pong ball
