Hot take from ID: Invaded, I like the character Akihito Narihisago more than Saikaido. I think Akihito is more dynamic as a character personally and although he has done (and unfortunately might try again) terrible things, but I get it, as another human (derogatory). Being a person with terrible flaws is understandable, and in that I find fellowship with him. Damn I feel his anguish, his self-loathing, his obsessive behavior. It sucks, and I get that. I really do.

Do the people know about Id: Invaded. Do they know. Do they know about unhinged murder anti-hero of all time Akihito Narihisago and ultimate sad wet cat villain man Tamotsu Fukuda. Do they know about feral danger crime-solver girl Koharu Hondomachi who referred to the destruction of an entire dimension world in someone’s head as “pretty.” Do they know about the series’ exploration of the themes of what it means to be “broken” and to choose hope and self-improvement and how to really define the term “evil.” DO THEY KNOW ABOUT HORRIBLE YET TRAUMATIZED MURDER LADY NAHOSHI INAMI AND HER PATHETIC (COMPLIMENTARY, AFFECTIONATE) RELATIONSHIP WITH HER BOYFRIEND AND MURDER ACCOMPLICE

Review of: ID Invaded
The reason I decided to watch ID:Invaded was because of it's soundtrack. It completely hooked me, and so after several hours of listening to the music, I finally started watching the anime. My first impression was this: the animation is stunning, the mystery is intoxicating, and this world is completely new and unfamiliar. I was excited to see where the show would go from there, and how the characters would grow, but it didn't seem to move forward much. I will begin to discuss some major plot points that will spoil the show. Read below at your own risk.
Sure, we had our field specialist Hondomachi go from an innocent character to a cunning and cold murderer, but I would hardly count that as character growth since it seemed like the sudden growth was caused by nothing. It was like, she was caught by the perforator and then she decided to grow up and become the cunning character she is. The only other character with any real growth is Sakaido, or Akihito Narihisago, the only reason I'm giving this show 6/10 and not 3/10 is because of Narihisago. As a detective, it's been implied that he often focused more on his work rather than his family. When his daughter falls victim to the challenger, and his wife commits suicide, Narihisago realises how he took the time with his family for granted. Eaten up by guilt and anger, he finds and kills the challenger... then ends up imprisoned. Interesting, right? Why is a police officer going to jail for killing a murderer? They never explained why, it was almost like they expected us to know why. Okay, fine. Later on however, Narihisago kills the challenger in Kiki Asukai's Id well, and it was classified as self-defence, here are the differences between those two occurences: Narihisago had no proof for the challenger being who he is when he was in Asukai's Id, his daughter was not a victim to the challenger yet, he invited the challenger to a physical fight, he got injured during the fight. Does his inviting the challenger to the fight and getting injured justify how he killed the challenger any more than when he shot him after his daughter's death? No! Moving on from this point, the death of Narihisago's family takes a huge toll on him, and he ends up working for the Kura as a "brilliant detective" and that ruins his mental health even more. When he enters Kiki Asukai's well, we see him go back to his old life, doing all the things he regretted not doing before, while still denying reality. We see him heal, grow, and become a different person from the man who drove serial killers to suicide.
Other than Hondomachi and Narihisago, there are no characters with any real personality, I did not relate to them, I do not care about them, they just seem pitiful and bland. One might ask "but what about Tamotsu Fukuda?" (if they remembered his name, that is), and the answer is this: he is not pitiful or boring, he is just poorly written. A serial killer who drills holes in other people's heads, because he drilled a hole in his own head, because the world feels incomplete, and because he has arithmomania. How does this follow exactly? I do not know. Nobody needs to know, it's just a nice little backstory to make us sympathise with a serial killer, and to give him an advantage to other characters so he can become Hondomachi's knight in shining armor!
Now, what about Kiki Asukai, if she's so important, how can she be so bland? Well it's because Kiki Asukai is not Kiki Asukai. She's a damsel in distress, with so much power she cannot handle. She's Lucy from Elfen Lied, mixed with the archetype of the damsel in distress, fitting for an anime that is so focused on Freud's theory of Id, but it is to be expected that a story that puts so much focus on a character must personalise that character, because archetypes do not have personality. Kiki Asukai is barely a character, even the scene where she leaves the Mizuhanome is so heavily influenced on Elfen Lied's Lucy. Of course, it is more than acceptable to be influenced, this is not plagiarism, but the fact that they did not try to be creative in how Kiki Asukai was walking outside the Mizuhanome and made it so that she was reacting exactly the way Lucy was, means the show has no originality whatsoever when it comes to Kiki Asukai.
To conclude, the music is amazing, the animation is impressive, the idea is great, but the execution was one character away from being an absolute failure.

Propaganda:
Sakaido: He’s the psychological representation of Akihito Narihisago, a former detective who killed the man who killed his daughter and now routinely drives serial killers to suicide, he’s done nothing wrong.
So Jung-hwa; The only competent detective/police officer in the entire series, and the only sane character as well. Give her a raise

YOU WAYCHED ID INVADED :?? sorry i havent met anyone whos watched it
do you have any reccs for anything similar 🙏🙏🙏
-🪱
yes i did!! just a few months back, and i loved it (i think i love it more and more as it marinates in my brain lmao)
so of course i recently mentioned it because of the deranged detective anime lol, though i'm an anime-only with that and with only one ep out so far it's kind of hard to say if i would recommend it as something similar to id:invaded? only similarity so far is in the detective who serial kills serial killers, no sci-fi element or anything (at least not so far)
for something actually similar, i would recommend psycho-pass! it's a bit darker? i mean like visually, like aesthetically. as in literally a darker color palette ahaha, but id:invaded reminded me a whole bunch of psycho-pass (which i'd watched a bit earlier and loved even more) so i would say for sure that's my top rec for something similar
akudama drive is... i think less directly similar, in terms of plot/themes/etc, but there's a vibe that's... maybe a bit in the same category? akudama drive is just imo less Serious and more like a bang bang fun action ride (though it's not just completely silly either, i enjoyed it quite a bit overall)
darker than black might also be a good fit if you don't mind an older series, the mc there (one of my favorites) has a similar-ish vibe to narihisago imo (not like identical or anything but they're like, idk, i think i would put them into roughly the same bucket of blorbo)
it all depends a bit on similar in what regard, i guess! characters? plot? the sci-fi aspect of it? or the detective/mystery aspect? or something else?
but imo can't go wrong with psycho-pass
the id:invaded director is working on overtake! this season btw, which is the f4 racing anime, so very different from id:invaded but still good stuff if you're into sports anime
you miiight also be interested in an upcoming series called special kid factory? i don't personally know much about it yet, since it's not released, but the id:invaded director is on the staff there too and the character designs will be by the id:invaded character designer. looks like it could be good or could be a total whiff, only time will tell
and speaking of the id:invaded character designer, if it's the character look you like, you could give hamatora a shot. same character designer there, though i didn't personally get that into hamatora (some series similar-ish to it that i preferred more were like... kekkai sensen and hakata tonkotsu ramens)
anyway lots of options! just if you look up a list of similar series and see something called tokyo 24-ku on it do not. do not watch that it was not good lmao

(Id: Invaded anon here)
(shakes hand furiously) Yes. That was one good series, in this house we stan brilliant detective Anaido and Narihisago was to me a truly fascinating MC. But okay, with your MAL now open…
Have you heard about Rokka no Yuusha? Legend says that in the time of need, six heroes, each bearing a mark from the goddess, will show up. The problem is, seven heroes showed up, and the group cannot leave their area before they find out who’s the fake. Quite obviously a promo for the light novel, but I remember being entertained.
If episodic mystery is ok, Muhyo & Roji's Bureau of Supernatural Investigation was really fun for me. “Ghost of the week” for a part, yes, but (shrug). If the animation style sits with you. Muhyo is such a gremlin. (2 seasons, if it's up to your liking.)
TnB left in the tags, I vaguely point at its not-so-successful spirit sibling Double Decker. A special unit on the case of an illegal drug that upgrades people but is also highly lethal so huh. Again, episodic for the major part but it comes together in the end. (I remember I somehow skipped watching one episode and found out only because the fandom was talking about some events I didn’t remember seeing orz that’s how episodic it is until the plot kicks in.)
Well. Just some ideas. Have a good day!
Hi anon!! Welcome back :) always a pleasure to have you
nods nods... I havent actually heard of rokka before! I've added it to the pile. its good to know that if the anime intrigues me enough there's still a ln to check out afterwards! (i like to read too so. no downside really)
Apparently I've already got Muhyo & Roji in my plan to watch? I dont really remember adding it though (there's almost a 1000 animes in there now sooo... not surprising). Maybe I was a bit too vague in my original post, but I love episodic mysteries a lot! :) so yeah, it seems fun! I like the odd character designs as well
and, i actually watched ep1 of double decker back in (looks at list) 2021! it was probably after finding out abt it through t&b. I remember liking the 1st episode, but i didnt continue for some reason. i tend to do that, only watch the 1st episode and then revisit it years later... it's definitely on my radar!
Thanks so much for taking the time to comb through the stuff i watched! im pretty swamped with everything im watching rn for the rest of this vacation, but after that I've got some nice shows to pick from :) hope you have a good day too anon!
