i wish i was joking lmao i was thinking about it yesterday and was gonna make a venn diagram but i dont wanna
Harley Quinn: Blonde, Abuse Victim
Adrien Agreste: Blonde, Cat Coded, Abuse Victim, (Not Human)
Hunter: Blonde, Abuse Victim, (Not Human)
Rapunzel: Blonde, Abuse Victim
Catra: Cat, Abuse Victim
Cinderella: Blonde, Abuse Victim
Magnus (TV SHOW ONLY OMFG): Cat Coded, Abuse Victim
Adora: Blonde, Abuse Victim
Only one I can think of that doesn't fit into any of these is Aang, and he's a deeply traumatized but golden hearted ray of sunshine,,, so if there was another section on my imaginary been diagram he'd fit into that category with Rapunzel, Adrien and Adora.
like 95% of my favs are a combination of "blonde" "cat coded" "abuse victim" or are just all three </3
#I wouldn't say i stan the disney princesses by any means but if i had to pick favorites i really do love them#and their stories#i love kind characters who have ever reason to not be kind and choose to be anyway :')#tw abuse mention#aha nothing to do with self projection no not at all#its just coincidence that they've all suffered abuse in different forms#though toh is hard because luz and eda also exist and i love them so much#three bisexuals <3#stanable energy#so like not every character fits but like#if i had a nickel for every time a character with x x and/or x trait captured my full attention when consuming a piece of media#id have a good amount of nickels#ya know ?#skdnskksksksmsm#its just a pattern throughout my years in fandoms#Harley's current hyper fixation#last one was adrien one before that was magnus

Who’s your favorite Octonaut and why? :D
nyehehe
Gonna be honest I definitely have a bit of a bias towards kwazii XD
If I had a nickel for everytime I heavily hyperxiated on an anthropomorphic cat with a chunk of his ear gone, id have two nickels, which isn't alot but its weird its happened twice!
Its pretty funny actually cuz usually I go for more either more serious or eerily strange characters- 😭
Fun fact about me actually, this isn't my first time hyperfocusing on the octonauts! When I was in middle school I was super into these lil guys lol, and my current design for kwazii is just an updated version of my middle school one XD
I just think he has a unique charm to him and I feel like yeah people do look at him like this silly guy that doesn't understand anything and has silly and strange ways
But there's always a reason for his antics! And I love that sm <3 he's kind of a living contradiction of stereotypes I suppose?
Hes a pirate with the kindest heart ever <3
Hes so brave in the face of sharks and danger and peril but is scared of spiders 🥺
He believes all sorts of spooky tales of terror (let's be real they're probably wors of mouth from actual sea creatures, a good amount of them, and actual sea creatures do not describe other species well lol) but there's always a scrap of truth behind them AND he knows that!! But he still chooses to believe in them regardless 🥰
he doesn't know whats going on but he's never the butt of the joke for it-
Hes got what are and look like silly little ways and traditions that are part of his identity and life
He always is disappointed to be stuck babysitting or shocked whenever a creature associates HIM with some sort of parental figure- (this has happened for so long in the og show and above and beyond!) But then loves them so sweetly after only a little bit and is teary eyed and filled with love when they say good bye-
Also I might have had fantasy pirate fixations before in the past and him being a pirate in the modern era gave me so much freedom to do so much worldbuilding-
Also I just... really relate to cats in general 🥺 and I like how he's a friendly happy and excited lil guy with adhd, but he's still very much a cat
I just think he's neat 🥰🥰🥰

if i had a nickel for the amount of times i loved a character whos been beholden to an entity that is comparable to gods but perhaps even greater, one who he altogether needs and he craves to sate despite how it can be for the worse for being at the cost of good peoples' lives and his own autonomy/agency even though mostly hes something like its destined ambassador or medium, one who others can either view with reverence or with great fear for this, as it changes his eyes and he still does try to keep a handle on things but even he cant really succeed alone despite how hes so used to making so many big decisions alone and being alone
id have two nickels and the other guy is from a horror podcast
#which is the magnus archives#love and deepspace#whether it be the former sea gods or the deep sea is what i mean as if it's already super confirmed but like i am still#open to other possibilities id hate to be one of the ppl who speak as if xyz is already unrefutable canon but this makes sense so ☝️🤓#glubabbles

Tunguska debrief: the rocks are only “presumably” of extraterrestrial origin bc that shits hard to prove and even harder to prove it came from a specific meteor without having a verified chunk of the original? Like. A large amount of nickel is often an excellent indicator of meteor presence, because naturally occurring earth nickel is often only found in small quantities deep in the crust. Meteors, however, often contain high amounts of nickel, which has been protected from oxidation by the void of space! In much the same way, certain other elements or geological phenomena are excellent indicators of a meteor, but not a certainty of such. (Peridot is a semi precious gem that is extraterrestrial in origin!)
Meteors typically burn up entirely in our atmosphere or leave behind only trace amounts. Finding even a 3-5 pound chunk is considered a “large” meteor! And if the Tunguska meteor exploded midair to create an air burst, it’s even less weird to have no crater, especially when the team only got there 9 years later. It would have made a wide spread debris field, with most of said debris probably being very small scraps.
Chupacabra: Better researched, good. Major quibble is that DNA testing is nowhere near as accurate as people think it is, and although they mentioned the lady did actually get positive IDs for coyote, one thing to remember is that “no known matches” can also mean “your sample was corrupted and therefore has an incorrect sequence”. Also they just did not focus on the whole “bit thru neck to reach the brain” thing, which like. BRUH. Do you know how big of fangs it would take to do that? And like. Clean incisions?! ON MULTIPLE ANIMALS? That ain’t apex predator that is some Alien level shit right there
#look i’m a nerd and a person who had a brief cryptobio phase#space is just cool/terrifying tho#and also my dad would just leave the history/natgeo channel on and i got to see so much more of meteor hunting than i ever cared about

EKWB-Supremacy Classic RGB - Nickel + Plexi Waterblock Review
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e1ac6289c4f5e5199a099deb30a5f353/tumblr_inline_pm03fd0YxN1rl7fat_540.jpg)
EKWB's Supremacy CPU blocks have been a favorite of may water cooling enthusiasts and overclockers. With the launch of the Quantum line of products, EKWB also launched their Classic Line. The Classic line retains a familiar look of EK blocks of the past with minor aesthetic updates. The updates include an RGB LED strip under an aluminum cover on the water block. The Supremacy Classic still uses the jet-plate style cooling engine of previous blocks and has been updated for easier maintenance. Packaging With cost-conscious consumers in mind, EKWB chose a plain cardboard box for the Supremacy Classic. There's no flash or flair here, just straight down to business. A small line art drawing of the block is on top while the socket compatibility is now listed on the side of the box.

Inside, you'll find the installation kit in the first compartment, the water block and thermal paste below that, and underneath the last bit of foam is the rubber gasket and EK's back plate. This review will cover the Intel block and the installation kit reflects as much. Included in the kit are standoffs for both desktop and HEDT (x99/X299), plastic washers to electrically isolate the stand-offs from the motherboard, tension spring, caps, two replacement jet plates, and a hex key used to tear down the block for cleaning and maintenance.

Technical specifications: - RGB cable length: 30cm - RGB connector classic 4-pin (12+ R G B) CPU socket compatibility: - Intel LGA-1150/1151/1155/1156 - Intel LGA-2011(-3) - Intel LGA-2066

Enclosed: - EK-Supremacy Classic RGB CPU block A Closer Look At The EK-Supremacy Classic RGB The Supremacy Classic has the looks of the older EK water blocks. However, there are subtle differences. There are no designs in the plexi that adorned the past blocks but there is an aluminum cover over the lower edge of the block. This cover hides the RGB LED strip. EK has made it so you can remove the aluminum cover and replace the RGB strip with one of your own choosing if you so desire.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/1e8bf9aa9c80955a1da16be1da1432b3/tumblr_inline_pm03fhQj1i1rl7fat_400.jpg)
The water block uses standard G1/4 ports for fittings. Each port is marked in and out. The inlet for the block is designed so the coolant hits the jet plate and is forced across the fins on the way to the exit.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/cd2db424682c27e62e5656389df16be8/tumblr_inline_pm03fi0wgZ1rl7fat_400.jpg)
What is a water block without RGB? The Supremacy is compatible with all the motherboards using a 4-pin (12+GRB) connection. The pigtail for the water block is about a foot long and should give you plenty of room to run to the RGB headers on the motherboard and if not there are 3rd party extensions that can be used.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/e9aca1456300ec7a1a96ff0577bbdb5a/tumblr_inline_pm03fiMwF41rl7fat_400.jpg)
Flipping the water block over, you'll be presented with a large yellow caution sticker advising you to remove it before installing the water block. Under the sticker is the cold plate for the water block. The cold plate is nickel plated copper. The finish on the block is like a mirror. No machining marks were visible and the reflection of the screwdriver below is dang near perfect. EK made the Supremacy Classic easy to tear down and clean. Simply remove the four hex screws on the bottom of the water block and pull apart. EK also included a hex key to do so. The water block consists of essentially four parts; the acrylic top, cold plate, jet plate, and mounting bracket. One of the problems I've had with other blocks is getting the o-ring back in place and having it stay while re-assembling. The o-ring for the Supremacy Classic can either sit on the cold plate or can sit in the groove in the acrylic top. During re-assembly, there was no movement of the o-ring.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/ee5bd57ade64d070028cc94d99184e5f/tumblr_inline_pm03fjNIfa1rl7fat_540.jpg)
The jet plate works in conjunction with the fins on the cold plate to force the water across them in order to transfer heat. The fins are machined into the block in order to increase surface area.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/0b2a69bdc3df64d275b969c8726cdf8a/tumblr_inline_pm03fjkRBL1rl7fat_540.jpg)
One of the differences with the Supremacy Classic and older EKWB blocks is the plastic mount for the jet plate is no longer removable which makes assembly a bit easier. The Jet plate can only go back on one way.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8b5b3b2232e2767320904893a6764d8a/tumblr_inline_pm03fkvpm21rl7fat_540.jpg)
All that's left is to put the cold plate back on. Before screwing the parts together, it's a good idea to check and make sure the o-ring isn't pinched.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/37e107aace422b76a67edf24e949f62c/tumblr_inline_pm03fkvji01rl7fat_540.jpg)
Installation Unlike the previous budget water block, the Supremacy MX, you will not have to remove the stock Intel back plate in order to Install the Supremacy Classic on the Intel 11xx platform. You will, however, need to install the rubber gasket between the motherboard and the EKWB back plate. This will electrically isolate the back plate from any pins protruding from the motherboard. Make sure to line up the 3 holes in the back plate with the screws from the Intel socket.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/10abe4d84d1ceea7304cf0f17b5c45cb/tumblr_inline_pm03fl97so1rl7fat_400.jpg)
Next up, you'll flip the motherboard over and install a washer on each of the longer standoffs and screw them into the back plate. The plastic washers act to protect the motherboard's traces. This will need to be done four times. If you're installing the Supremacy Classic on the HEDT platform, you will not need to use the included EKWB back plate. The shorter standoffs will screw into the stock Intel CPU brackets.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a8c024d3111f6ceadee8ff5b1fe63fff/tumblr_inline_pm03fls0tU1rl7fat_400.jpg)
Once the standoffs are installed, you'll need to add a dab of thermal paste to the top of the CPU and set the block on top. I tend to use a small drop in the center of the CPU and then allow the water block to spread the paste as it is tightened. Then you'll take the four springs and place them on the standoffs with the ears of the water block below the springs. Finally, you'll take the caps and screw them down on the standoffs. Tighten them until they stop. Be sure to tighten in a criss-cross pattern to ensure even thermal paste spread.

For this review, I ran two sets of tests. The Stock test was run with the CPU set to the stock settings in the BIOS. The radiator fans and pump were set to the normal setting in the Arous BIOS. This allows the fans and pump to spin up and down based on temperature. The stock temperature curves in the BIOS were used. I chose to do this for the stock test to mimic a low noise set up. I wanted to fans and pump to be quiet with at the same time get good cooling performance. The Overclock test was done with custom settings. I set the voltage for the CPU at 1.249v for Vcore and set the multiplier on all cores at 48. The pump and radiator fans were set to full speed in the BIOS settings. The EKWB radiator had just been cleaned using Mayhem's Blitz kit. The loop was filled with fresh distilled water (no additives) and was run without load until most of the air worked its way back to the reservoir. To monitor loop temperature, I used two XSPC inline temperature sensors. During the test, I waited for the coolant temperatures to stabilize (about 30 minutes). From there the statistics were cleared and another 15 minutes were put on the clock before the last minute average. Coolant temperatures were taken at the same time as the CPU temperatures. Temperatures are averaged (last minute) from individual core temperature results monitored by AIDA64 after 15 minutes using the default CPU, and Cache simultaneous load. AIDA64 is able to use the latest instructions including AVX and AVX2, etc unlike other older CPU load tests so it is also a lot more “future proof” as more software start to utilize it. PU-only load average is used to simulate worst case scenario load levels similar to Intel Burn Test or OCCT. Please keep in mind that this test is brutal and not even close to real-world load (especially not that constant for that amount of time). Results marked “100″ and in red means, the thermal limit was reached and the CPU throttled, even for just but a second. This includes results where even just the first core reached the limit and even if it briefly happened. It is marked as 100 in red in the review if it happens three times. Three runs are conducted per cooler and a fourth run is done after a remounting to verify. Last minute average is taken instead of peak because it represents the averaged behavior of the thermal performance instead of worst-case scenario or a snapshot. Temperature delta results are used to account for variance in the cooling system. Room temperature is set at 19°C. With the Intel i7-8700k using the motherboard defaults and the fans and pump set to "normal" in the Aorus BIOS settings, there a few degrees of difference between the Supremacy Classic and EKWB's previous generation "budget" waterblock; the Supremacy MX. However, when we pour a bit more heat into the system by using the FPU test, the gap between the block widens a bit. The delta temperatures confirm that there is a slight difference when running the Aida64 stability test stressing CPU, Cache, and FPU. But as more heat is applied, the Supremacy Classic is the clear victor.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/5fb1c26f97f813f803a46cc4401f0860/tumblr_inline_pm03fmrHbp1rl7fat_540.jpg)
For the Overclocking tests, I set the fan and pump speeds to the "full speed" setting in the BIOS and set the CPU multiplier at 48 on all cores. After a bit of tweaking, I got the CPU to run stable at 4893 MHz with a Vcore of 1.249. Any less voltage and the system would crash the test or blue screen. As the frequency went up so did the temperatures as expected. We see a similar pattern with the new EKWB block besting the old, again, as expected. The Supremacy Classic extends its lead even more which leads me to believe, that I can still get this CPU even further and maybe crack 5 GHz with my retail sample.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a0cf84ff2e3889272282961f0e5ae453/tumblr_inline_pm03foMVzF1rl7fat_540.jpg)
Conclusion EKWB recently released their Quantum line of products which included the Vector CPU water blocks. These are aimed more towards the enthusiast water cooling level. The EKWB Classic line is aimed at being budget-friendly and aims to bring back some of the "classic" EK look while still offering good performance. I think on the aesthetic side of the block EKWB has done a great job. The Supremacy classic forgoes any flash except for a single RGB strip and instead takes the stance of "walk softly and carry a big stick".
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/a34391c8f6c327a3ba3a50c7978f5f94/tumblr_inline_pm03fpPsBy1rl7fat_540.jpg)
On the performance side of things, I am so far, impressed with the Supremacy Classic. A few of my other water blocks are in use on other projects at the moment and the Velocity waterblock review is coming up shortly. Time will tell how well the block does against other water blocks on the market. In my testing, the waterblock actually kept temperatures lower than I was expecting especially during the FPU torture test. Honestly, I expected the performance to be closer to the Supremacy MX. Not once did I have an issue where the CPU throttled in either the stock or overclocking tests. Overall, I think the Supremacy Classic RGB is a pretty decent value at $70.00. It brings features such as a machined acrylic top and RGB lighting that consumers have been asking for at a lower price point than the top tier offerings from EK. Read the full article

The First Time I Accidentally Wandered Too Far Away.
It was very rare for me as a kid to go to the beach or go swimming as the entry cost was usually a fortune for the 20 of us, but once a year we would go to this creak during the summer to meet up with family we hadn’t seen in a long time and as you can probably infer my extended family was very crowded with all the mass amounts of identical faces from all my brothers. Four sets of twins and three sets of triplets can really mess up a large family gathering. Plus of course; me. But I was usually just passed off as the illiterate one and most of the cousins and aunts/uncles would pity me and give me cookies or something so that I would just go away. I was ”mute” to most of them until about age 11. I think I really started grasping english a long time before but I still spoke and thought in Tsi so I didn’t often need to use english. (especially since at home my brothers would also speak in Tsi) Anyways the main point of the trip was always the food, then the games of kick ball and then to end the day with a whole ton of fireworks, like a whole ton. But usually at some point in the day my brothers would loose track of my non-english brain and I would venture too far down stream of the creak until the water expanded and got really deep and then spilled into a lake. Now the whole thing would eventually loop back around into the creak and as long as you stayed to the left of the water paths you wouldn’t end up in this lake. (and there were plenty of signs telling you to stay to the left and to move to the left, the currant wasn’t strong so this wasn’t hard. The hard part was again the fact that I could not in any capacity speak, read, or understand any english.)and it just so happened that one year (i was probably 6 maybe 7) I went too far down the water and failed to keep left and got sucked into deeper currents of water and seriously swept out into a giant lake.
Now nothing bad happened to me. I floated around a bit for a good couple of hours, eventually ended up falling asleep and then waking up on the lake’s beach. Which was mostly hard rocks and sand and sticks and trees and such. anyways at this point I just decided to get up and start walking in a random direction, (following the edge of the lake of course)
During the whole thing I saw and found a lot of cool things. That I just pocketed into the pockets of my brothers’ hand-me-down swim trunks. most of my trinkets were thinks like rocks and shells and the odd button or two, but I also pocketed a .38 caliber bullet, a bloody fox tooth, a raven egg, four nickels,(because I recognized money) a twenty dollar bill, an old soda pop cap, a joint, a magnet, the cap to a sharpie pen, a fake ID, and one of those mini bottles of vodka that they give you on airplanes. It was empty.
I’m not sure how long It took me to get back to the pavilion by the creak my family was staying in but when I did get back I knew it had been a really long time and expected someone to have wondered about where I was. My pockets were full to the max and I was waddling through camp looking for anyone of my multitude of brothers to tell them to call off the search party. The first one I found brushed me off and continued to only speak in english. This was until I told him I had gone to ”eyo’shena” other wise known as ”the endless waters” which was the word for ocean. To which he responded ”that’s impossible idiot we’re landlocked” and promptly left me by the swings alone again. The same reaction followed for most of my siblings. I say most because after getting the same reaction about 9 times I quit trying to find them all and just went back for more free cookies.
Tldr; when I was little my teenage brothers were jerks and didn’t believe me when I told them I had gotten lost at sea. ( I hadn’t it was just a lake) eyo’shena means endless water, and shena usally means water or waters. except when you are talking about drinking water because that word is illet. The word Itova means infinite. itova’shena (infinite waters) or just Ja’itova would be used as word for outer space.

Taking the Stress—and Difficulty—out of Localization
Wire locators and radioactive seeds can help breast surgeons locate cancerous lesions, but each approach presents its own difficulty. For decades, breast surgeons have relied on wire localization to pinpoint tumors. But wire localization can lead to surgery delays and cancellations, unsuccessful procedures, and increased stress for patients, surgeons, and the mammography team.
Legacy localization approaches present challenges
Typically, a wire localizer is inserted during the morning of a surgical procedure. That means the patient has to be careful about dislodging it, which can heighten stress during an already stressful day. If the wire moves, the patient will need to be rerouted to the mammography department to have it reinserted. Because the mammography department likely has a full schedule, that means delays for the patient and her surgical team.
At other healthcare facilities, a breast surgeon can rely on a radioactive seed, which is approximately the size of a small sesame seed and inserted into the tumor area, to locate the lesion. Unfortunately, because the seeds contain a small amount of radiation, there are strict handling guidelines for handling them–and that means this procedure is only a good fit for certain healthcare facilities.
Wire localization can result in stress among patients
In an April 2020 presentation, Valerie Gorman, MD, FACS, a breast surgeon at Texas Breast Center in Waxahachie, explained that the localization wire is often attached using a transparent medical dressing. Inserting the wire can be an “anxiety provoking” experience for the circulating nurse, who also has to make sure they don’t pull the wire too much or cut it too short. The nurse also has to advise the patient against moving, which could cause the wire to migrate.
While Gorman explained that wire localization is a safe, cost-effective, and established procedure, one that guides a breast surgeon on the location of a patient’s tumor, the experience can also be stressful for patients.
For example, one of Gorman’s patients had a difficult experience with the wire insertion in the mammography department. Then she sat in the waiting room and pulled on a sweater after she felt cold. The act of pulling on her sweater dislodged the wire. The result was additional waiting and a delayed start to her surgery because the wire had to be reinserted.
Wireless localization enables precision and ease of use
Incorporating the LOCalizer
Wire-free Guidance System as part of pre-surgical planning can help. Developed by Marlborough, Mass.-based Hologic, Inc., the LOCalizer is a wireless radio frequency identification (RFID) breast lesion system. It can enable precision and ease of use for breast surgery guidance.
The LOCalizer system includes:
A miniature RFID tag with a unique ID number pre-loaded in a needle applicator
A single-use surgical probe with a small, approximately 8 mm tip
A portable handheld reader that can be used in a sterile (when enclosed in the system’s sterile drape) or unsterile environment
The tag is pre-loaded in the needle applicator and comes with a unique identification number, which allows the breast surgeon to locate it during the procedure; it can be inserted several days or hours before the surgical procedure. Visible under X-ray and ultrasound, the tag presents no contraindication for patients with nickel allergies, according to Hologic.
Approximately the size of a pencil, the single-use sterile probe is used by a breast surgeon to pinpoint the location of the tag during the procedure. The portable handheld reader shows the surgeon the distance to the tag in millimeters and the tag’s unique ID number on a screen whose brightness can be customized to the lighting in the surgical suite.

Businesses in 2021 have become more calculative if you look 10 years down the lane. I think most would agree to this. They are now looking to explore different ways of cost-cutting and their R&D team is doing a remarkable job by getting them satisfying outputs. And, improvising his communications definitely tops the chart. I0n general, organizations often overlook the channels they use and the amount of money they spend without achieving anything that really benefits their organization as a whole. With the 2nd wave of Covid-19 pandemic squeezing their business opportunities again, organizations are shifting their base to business VoIP to stay afloat. Cost-cutting and better clarity in communication in remote working scenarios is the two highlights of Business VoIP. Know how! No matter which business you are into, phone communication is the most common and first line of consent between you and your customers. Although there are other mediums to establish communication, new clients would like to first engage over phone calls and it has been the pillar of customer support. Acknowledging the importance, network operators often enforce various charges that can add more numbers to your monthly phone bills. That doesn’t end here, some of them would be for the services you never use or not necessary at all. So why to pay for those services that you don’t use that too in the name of “all-inclusive fee” and “taxes include”. There’s no limit to the level of creativity that some business phone providers display when finding ways to nickel and dime their customers. Unless you’ve already carefully audited your company’s bill, there’s a good chance that you’re paying more than necessary. If you’re out of touch with just how much traditional phones are costing your business, we’ve jotted down a few pointers for items that you might want to keep an eye on the next time your bill arrives. In this article, we’ll cover the following sections: Is it actually possible to reduce phone bills with Business VoIP? Your bill may be a necessary business expense, but that doesn’t mean it has to cost your company an arm and a leg. This cost can be especially tough for small business owners. One thing to consider is the total cost of operation for your current phone system. You can find that cost by adding how much it costs to purchase the phone system with how much it costs for you to operate it. Once you have determined that cost, you can decide if what you paid for your business phone system and what you currently pay to operate it is worth it. You can compare that price against whatever your current bill is each month. That way, you can see which aspect of your setup you should change. Just take a look At your current phone bill: The easiest way to see how much you should cut from costs associated with your phone service is by looking into your existing bill. For example, providers will commonly offer a discount for various packages and it may reduce your company’s administrative costs by consolidating the bills into one payment. Here are some items on your bill you should pay close attention to: Rollover Lines — These are found in traditional phone lines and allow your business to handle multiple calls at once so that your customers will not run into busy signals. These aren’t cheap, as they can cost your business up to $30 per line. It’s important to note that you can get this same functionality from an IP system without any extra costs. Wire Maintenance — Once again, this is an item specific to landlines. This is a fee associated with the cost of wiring your office. Long-Distance and Toll Charges — You can’t help it if your business has to make a large number of long-distance and toll-free calls. But you can slash this cost by switching those communications to email or an IP phone system. Users and Extensions — Not only do traditional phone systems charge for rollover lines, but they charge for each line that you need. Note that providers also tend to charge per user, so it’s worth it to compare the prices for different providers here. Some charges will be set in stone, but you might have a little wiggle room on some. If there’s a particular fee that seems too high to you, it’s worth it to reach out to your provider and try to negotiate. Consider the Features You Need: The next step to reducing costs associated with your bill is considering all the features you need in your phone system. Whether or not you’re on a PSTN or an IP phone system, you can often get locked into expensive contracts if you’ve bundled together features which you’re not using. It’s important to consider the features you need in your phone system so you can find a plan that only requires you to pay for what you need. Here are some basic and vital features to consider in your next phone system provider. Call Forwarding — This is a basic feature that ensures your customers can reach you no matter what. So if you split your time between working in an office and at home, you can forward calls from your business number to your mobile device. Extensions — In a traditional PSTN phone system, an extension is another phone number that is physically wired to the main number. The more wiring you do, the more that will cost. IP systems do this virtually, and many offer a certain amount of extensions built into basic plans. Remote Support — There will undoubtedly come a time when you need to have your phone system serviced. But as the coronavirus pandemic continues to keep the vast majority of the workforce remote, it may no longer be feasible to have an outside employee enter your office to examine your setup. Looking into a phone provider that offers remote support is a more feasible option these days. Unlimited VoIP Minutes— Thanks to the pandemic, phone calls are more vital now than ever. As in-person meetings have essentially come to a grinding halt, your business is likely spending even more time on the phone. So a phone system that offers you unlimited VoIP minutes should be a top priority. Call Logs — Call Logging is a great way to study your employees’ performance, particularly your sales team, and gauge the experience you’re providing your customers with. Call logs can provide you with key details such as the date and time of the call, duration, caller ID, and whether or not the call was accepted or sent to voicemail. Consider What Else You Can Get From a Modern Business VoIP Solution: Given that your company is likely already paying for a broadband Internet connection and may have even built a full-blown intranet, there should be minimal friction and considerable savings when switching to an IP service. There isn’t any additional hardware needed except for possibly an IP phone. Most companies charge somewhere around $20 a month for a business VoIP line that includes everything, but if you're looking for cost-saving solutions then VoIPTech Solutions is the best choice for your organization You can expect enhanced features from any VoIP provider you select. Here are some to look out for: IVR — Hosted IVR is a telephony menu and routing system that offers an interactive menu for callers in order to direct them to the department they need. As it’s an intelligent system, IVR can carry out tasks involving yes/no or numbers-related answers from callers. This feature buys back time and productivity for your employees, along with ensuring that your customers have a shorter wait time. Auto-Attendant — This feature can help to replace the role of a receptionist in your organization. So instead of requiring your callers to first speak to a receptionist in order to be transferred to the correct party, they will simply just have to press a number associated with the correct department’s extension. Just as with IVR, this feature can also save your organization time and money. Video Conferencing — Most VoIP providers include other methods of communication in their phone plans. Video conferencing is one of the most popular options. This is simply a function that a PSTN phone system cannot provide you with. The video conferencing features for certain IP phone plans even allow for hundreds of participants to join at once, getting you as close to an in-person company meeting as you can during the pandemic. Mobile App Integration — Most VoIP phone providers have their own mobile app, allowing you to take your business calls on the go. The apps often allow for video chat and SMS business messaging, in addition to a traditional voice call. You can typically toggle between means of communication, with information from previous conversations saved on each of your devices. Is your business phone service provider isn’t meeting your expectations and you’re paying more than $20 or $30/month? Contact VoIPTech Solutions today. Call: +91-7008220621. Read the full article

Rechargeable Batteries Can Only Be Charged 300-500 Times
A charge-discharge cycle involves draining or using your battery to where there is for all intensive purposes, no charge left, and then subsequently charging the battery with a power adapter to 100% capacity. This process of charging and discharging (charge cycling) can only be done between 300-500 times. The question that we want to address is why? Why is it that lithium batteries can only be charged less than 500 times? Why does a battery over time degrade and eventually stops working and what if any does the reduction of the battery's active material and subsequent causes of chemical changes effect battery degredation? Battery Degradation and Power Loss A battery over time degrades and eventually stops working, this is no surprise, but why this occurs is really a fascinating yet technical process. These reasons are complex issues that are way beyond user control and are wholly contained within your battery and within your device! These technical processes are a result of the reduction of the battery's active material and subsequent causes of chemical changes. The chemical changes that I write of are: Declining capacity – when the amount of charge a battery can hold gradually decreases due to usage, aging, and with some chemistry, lack of maintenance. The loss of charge acceptance of the Li‑ion/polymer batteries is due to cell oxidation. Cell oxidation is when the cells of the battery lose their electrons. This is a normal process of the battery discharge process. In fact every time you use your battery a loss of charge acceptance occurs (the charge loss allows your battery to power your device by delivering electrical current to your device). Capacity loss is permanent. Li‑ion/polymer batteries cannot be restored with cycling or any other external means. The capacity loss is permanent because the metals used in the cells run for a specific time only and are being consumed during their service life. Internal resistance, known as impedance, determines the performance and runtime of a battery. It is a measure of opposition to a sinusoidal electric current. A high internal resistance curtails the flow of energy from the battery to a device. The aging of the battery cells contributes, primarily, to the increase in resistance, not usage. The internal resistance of the Li‑ion batteries cannot be improved with cycling (recharging). Cell oxidation, which causes high resistance, is non-reversible and is the ultimate cause of battery failure (energy may still be present in the battery, but it can no longer be delivered due to poor conductivity). All batteries have an inherent elevated self-discharge. The self-discharge on nickel-based batteries is 10 to 15 percent of its capacity in the first 24 hours after charge, followed by 10 to 15 percent every month thereafter. Li‑ion battery's self-discharges about five percent in the first 24 hours and one to two percent thereafter in the following months of use. At higher temperatures, the self-discharge on all battery chemistry increases. The self-discharge of a battery increases with age and usage. Once a battery exhibits high self-discharge, little can be done to reverse the effect. Premature Voltage Cut-Off – some devices like PDAs do not fully utilize the low-end voltage spectrum of a battery. The pda device itself, for example cuts off before the designated end-of-discharge voltage is reached and battery power remains unused. For example, a pda that is powered with a single-cell Li‑ion battery and is designed to cut-off at 3.7V may actually cut-off at 3.3V. Obviously the full potential of the battery and the device is lost (not utilized). All batteries degrade and lose power because there is a reduction in the battery's active material. We know that a battery is a device that converts chemical energy into electrical energy. In order to convert chemical energy into electrical energy there is a chain of events that have to occur prior to the creation of electrical energy. The chain of events have been discussed in depth in previous articles which you can access on my blog but what is key to the creation of electricity is that in batteries electrical energy is produced from two chemicals in a solution. After discharging you recharge the battery via a charger. The charge process involves intercalation: the joining of a molecule (or molecule group) between two other molecules (or groups). Intercalation is the process of ions being pushed by electrical current into solid lithium compounds. Lithium is one of the chemical components used to create electrical energy in batteries. Lithium compounds have minuscule spaces between the crystallized planes for small ions to insert themselves from a force of current. Ionizing lithium loads the crystal planes to the point where they are forced into a current flow. Intercalation replenishes, in effect, lithium but the net result of ionization is the ultimate depletion of the lithium reactive property. You could say if you use it you will lose it! Why then is lithium used as the chemical to create electricity in batteries? There are a number of good reasons – let's look at a few! General Characteristics of Lithium Name: lithium Symbol: Li Atomic number: 3 Atomic weight: [6.941 (2)] g m r CAS Registry ID: 7439-93-2 Group number: 1 Group name: Alkali metal Period number: 2 Block: s-block Standard state: solid at 298 K Color: silvery white/grey Classification: Metallic Lithium is one of the metals in the alkali group (the other metals include Sodium, Potassium, Rubidium, Cesium, and Francium). Lithium is a highly reactive metal. Lithium has only one electron in its outer shell (two electrons in its inner shell), which makes it chemically "ready" to lose that one electron in ionic bonding with other elements. Lithium is used as a battery anode material (due to its high electrochemical potential). Electrochemical potential is the sum of the chemical potential and the electrical potential. The higher the electrochemical potential the better the electrical current yields. In some lithium-based cells the electrochemical potential can be five times greater than an equivalent-sized lead-acid cell and three times greater than alkaline batteries. One other core advantage that lithium has is that it is soft and bendable which allows for tight configurations in small cell designs (PDAs. Laptops, Cameras etc…). Lithium, even with all of its good chemical properties will eventually, however, react to the point where the electrochemical potential will yield a charge that is simply not enough to create current to pass to power a device.

Chapter 11: Character Arcs
The apartment was soon reduced to a chaotic, shambled mess.
A few cups had chipped and shattered as Will decimated the kitchen, and the trash had been overturned in his haste to hunt through the pantry. Towels laid in desolate piles across the hallway, and dresser drawers had been overturned and upended in his haste.
Will sat huddled in the wake of a flipped mattress and abused Wal-Mart sheets, shaking hands grasping a note written in an elegant, beautiful, and furiously familiar hand.
Dear Will,
I am interested to see just how your world turns when you don’t have an electronic device to dictate every aspect of your life. Will it slow to a stop, marked only by a rising and setting sun, or will you retaliate in a blind fury, unable to stop the quickness of your pulse?
I’m eager to see the messages and reminders you have programmed to light up on this screen. The battery life on these, I’m told, are incredible.
-Chesapeake Ripper
He could hear his voice in those words. Will reread it enough times that it began to echo in his mind, frantic and furious with the all-knowing arrogance of it. The bastard had even put it in the sock drawer, where a familiar and not entirely welcome knife once lay.
“No,” he murmured, and he felt himself rocking a bit, side-to-side to try and ground himself rather than start screaming. “No, no, no, no…”
He set the note down on a pile of disheveled shirts, and he let out a croaking gasp. He had the urge to scream, to yell. He had the urge to pace, bellow, to rage, and he contained it all within himself as he started tapping his fingers on the ground, the sound hard and punctuated with the beat of his pulse.
His phone rang, and Will snatched it up from among a spilled glass of water and the remnants of a dead plant that’d fallen from the windowsill. He’d have to sweep it up later, along with the rest of his things he’d reduced to shards in his furious haste.
“Hello?” he asked. It was breathy, needing –God, why did he have to sound so hopeful that it was the Ripper, there to gloat then inevitably return his watch?
“Where the hell are you?” Beverly hissed. “You’d better be in a hospital –you’re not in a hospital, are you?”
Fuck.
“I’m…not feeling well, Beverly,” Will said hollowly. “I don’t think I should come in today.”
“Seriously? Haven’t you seen the news?”
“Is that a joke?”
“Dead serious, if you’re not on your way here, you’d better turn the news on. Work is hell right now, hell, and there are cops, feds…shit, other news vans…”
Will managed to drag himself to his feet where he made his way to the living room. The TV had been shoved to the side so violently that it teetered on the end of the stand. He nudged it to safety and sat down in front of it, skimming through channels until he could find the local news. Teeth gnashed against his bottom lip, breaking skin. His wrist felt bare, far too light.
“…and here now we’re standing just in front of Tattler News where you can see beyond the police line the body of a young man that authorities are now recognizing as Harrison Nolan, an up-and-coming member of the Baltimore Symphony. This is reminiscent of the recent murder of another young musician, Billy Nguyen who was found on the stage of the Baltimore Symphony with the neck of a cello placed down the victim’s throat.”
Will’s heart plummeted to a sickening squelch in his guts.
“Although partitions and canvases are being placed to block the view of onlookers, you can still see the victim has been found much the same way as before. Is this a promise of something more to come? Is there another serial killer in the midst of the DC area, looking to upstage the Ripper? Has the Ripper’s correspondence with Tattler News reduced him to something ‘mainstream’?”
“Shit,” Will murmured. In the distance, just beyond the reporter’s shoulder, he could barely make out a man slumped into a simple-backed chair, head tilted back to give way for the neck of a cello that burst from his mouth.
“Do you think it’s the Ripper?” Beverly asked. It took far too long for him to focus on her voice rather than the image before him. It cut back to the woman, and he blinked rapidly, dispelling it from his retinas.
“No, he…”
He’s playing a different game.
“This isn’t his style,” he said instead, quietly. “I think this is someone else that wants to be in the column.”
“Charlie’s asking where you are. What the hell do you want me to tell him?”
That took Will far too long to answer as well. The image in front of him cut to the crime scene from before, when the first body had been found on stage. He stared at it for several moments, mouth dry, wondering at the still image of the neck of the cello sprouting from a gaping mouth as though it were coming to full bloom.
“Will?”
He gave a start and looked away from the image. As it cut back to the woman’s white noise of fear-mongering, he shut off the TV and rubbed his face, resolute.
“I’ll be there in a bit…I have to get ready. My alarm didn’t go off.”
“Seriously?” Beverly bit out a snort. “Better have a better excuse than that when you get here. He’s pissed.”
Will hung up and sat on the floor of his apartment for several more minutes before he could pull himself to his feet. The skin on his wrist felt odd, and he itched it as he gathered together a suitable outfit and choked down a cup of coffee.
It wasn’t until halfway to work that he realized he’d forgotten to grab his water bottle. He thought about going back, but traffic was such that it’d be an entirely new ordeal altogether that he wasn’t precisely prepared for. He’d have to rely on work coolers, then.
He almost missed his stop on the bus, and he only realized it was there when the old woman beside him shoved and nudged him far enough away for her to walk out. He gave a start at the realization of where he was at, and he followed after her, an uncomfortable prickle down his neck.
“You’re not following me, are you?” the old woman asked.
He looked away from the distant street corner he would turn at and stared at her for an uncomfortably long amount of time.
“Because if you are, I’ve got mace. I’ll mace yeh,” she informed him.
“I’m going to work.”
She eyed him with extreme prejudice –likely his wrinkled shirt. His hair, too, he supposed, seeing as how he was now just realizing that he’d forgotten to brush it. It was quite the contrast to her own perfectly ironed shirt tucked into pants hiked up high at her hips –remnants of the good old days when gas was only twenty-five cents a gallon and a milkshake was a nickel. He likely looked the type to try and pickpocket someone, in her eyes. A mildly desperate expression, right hand twitching towards his left like he could find his watch there if he just fucking tried hard enough.
Oh, god. His watch. His fucking watch.
“Alright, then. Be quick about it.”
“Alright,” he said, and he took a dramatic step around her before he hurried on his way. He pitied the idiot that decided to try and mug someone like her –that pity faded as he figured they’d likely deserve it if they cased someone like that out and thought she’d be an easy target.
He had to fight through the crowd to get to the front, and more than a few elbows nestled into his gut as he skirted around them all. Their breaths and BO clung to him, and when he reached the front he nearly bowled over an officer that stepped just before him to stop him.
“I work here, this is-”
“ID, please,” the man said.
Will fished out his wallet and handed over his license, eyes scanning for Beverly. A cluster of news vehicles cramped up the public parking, and cameras were wildly swinging across the crowd, then towards the partitions that blocked the view of the body.
“No, your badge for the press,” he said impatiently.
“Yeah,” Will snapped impatiently, “it’s-”
Right here, he finished mentally, although the words didn’t come. His hand pressed to the place on his chest where his lanyard would hang, if he had it.
If he’d fucking remembered it from home.
“Behind the line, then,” the officer decided. Will could almost smell his smug superiority as he sauntered away to push back a few people testing the line, and the urge to lunge out at him coiled, ready to spring. It was a sudden wave of emotion, hot and volcanic in its fury, and it surprised him as he stood, puzzled beside a chatty millennial that was glued to her phone.
“Yeah, I can’t get inside to work because of this freak show, and my boss is going to kill me if I…”
Her words faded, though, as he struggled to turn the sudden emotions about in his hands, wrestle them into something manageable. The officer was just doing his job, Will decided. He was just doing his job, and anyone that wanted a closer look at a dead body would say whatever they could if it meant that they could get just close enough to maybe poke it with a stick once or twice. Stephen King had made a novel about something much like that –a group of boys that poked a dead body with a stick.
Serial killers must be Stephen King’s muse, too.
It took far too long for him to turn his feelings into something logical. Half of him longed to rush after the man, grab him, and snap his neck. The other half turned the idea about of him just staying home for the day. He could turn around and just go home, lock himself in his bedroom with a fifth of Jack and call it a fucking day.
“I’d say something, but honestly anything revolving around you is hard to be surprised by anymore.”
Jack Crawford’s voice listed across the foggy aspects of his thoughts, turned about as they were with the feeling of what the officer’s pulse would feel like in his palm as he squeezed. Will blinked once, then rapidly; he clung to the sound of professional weariness, and he looked up from his shoe in order make some sort of paltry eye contact with Jack. He swallowed heavily and wished that he’d remembered a water bottle. It’d sat in the back of his cabinets for so long that it’d collected dust, but now that he’d found it…
Something else to blame the Chesapeake Ripper for, then. His water would taste like the sun-abused shit in Charlie’s office by the time he got home.
“I forgot my press badge,” he said.
“…Come on,” Jack grunted, and he lifted the tape for Will.
As they passed by the officer who was busy answering questions to an irate woman, Will ensured that he made eye contact of a sort with the man. A smug, self-satisfied smile crept across his lips, and it twisted to a sneer as the cop realized just who it was he’d held back from entering. He glanced from Will to Jack, then back to Will; that Will Graham, he was fast realizing. That God damn, Will Graham.
“One of yours said that I should haul you in for questioning on this one,” Jack said as they ascended the steps.
“Todd from Marketing?”
“Yeah, I think name was Todd.”
Todd has a cocaine problem, he wanted to say. How about you go and grab the squealer’s stash before you bring me in for this?
It wasn’t the time, though, to throw Todd under the bus. He may need him for more paper analysis or something else mundane and detailed that he didn’t want to do, consumed as he was with his work.
“Todd hates marketing,” he said instead. “And me.”
“I supposed that if you were to start your own killing spree, you wouldn’t put the body on your front doorstep,” Jack assured him. “You seem a little too smart for that.”
There was that. As they skirted the partitions and Will got a full view of the body without the trouble of distance from a news station, he felt something much akin to relief that Jack didn’t find him entirely capable of this.
“…This wouldn’t be my design,” he murmured.
“Thank God for that,” Jack replied.
“This the kind of thing your boss had in mind when he started ‘Will Intentions’?” A guy asked, head popping up from around the body. It wasn’t Jimmy, and that minor change shook him down to his core, made words dry up in his mouth because first the watch, then his water, then his badge, and who in the world was this son-of-a-bitch? Why was everything suddenly changing?
“This isn’t good press,” Jack said.
“Any press is good press,” Will managed hoarsely. “That’s news for you.”
“Well this guy was pressed for time,” the man said, and he stood up. His mouth was obscured by a cloth mask, although unruly, curly dark hair poked up from a headpiece of the same material. A kind attempt at not contaminating the crime scene. “He’s fresher than the last one. The killer probably didn’t want it stinking up anything.”
“The last one?”
“Found in Baltimore just two weeks ago –Billy Nguyen.” The man eyed Will much the same way that the old woman had, as though he could see Will’s worth beneath his plaid button-up and found him wanting.
“You don’t think they’re from the Chesapeake Ripper, do you?” Will asked Jack.
“It’s on your doorstep,” the man interjected. Will ignored him.
“I didn’t at first, but unless you’ve got more crazies climbing out of the woodwork for you, I think it’s highly likely,” Jack said. “Unless you’ve got another idea?”
Will had several ideas, but none of them sounded stable enough to share. He frowned and glanced back to the body.
“Could I…” he looked to Jack, then back to the body. Could he see? Could he look at this the same way he stared at Mary Mai and see?
Jack stared at him, and Will had an uneasy ripple down his spine at the feeling that maybe, just maybe, Jack could see, too.
“Brian,” Jack said, and something on his face made Will’s stomach flop. “If you’ll step out of here with me for a minute.”
“Jack,” Brian needled.
“Come on.”
The apparent Brian didn’t enjoy being shifted from his work, and it showed in his face. The incredulous expression twisted, then cracked somewhat as he gave Will the most accusing and understanding expression of disdain that he’d ever witnessed. He skirted the body and Will, then stalked from the tent with the beginnings of his rant starting with, “Jack, seriously, a civilian…?”
Will ignored it, though. His fingers reached for the watch on his wrist that he knew wouldn’t be there, and he sighed.
The body was older than a few days; it didn’t reek so much of decay as it did chemicals. Will circled it, studying the way that the wooden neck of the cello burst from his mouth, lips curled to reveal the artistry beneath. If he’d been wearing gloves, he’d have taken fingers to it, caressed it as he wondered at its purpose –
-No, no, the purpose was obvious, wasn’t it? The musician wanted to play. This was his magnum opus.
The throat was open, peeled back with efficiency, although there was a bit of classic showmanship in the way that it was pinned in place with pearl-tipped pins. The white, bleached strings at his throat turned out to be vocal chords, though in truth Will only recognized it by the thickness of them –normally they weren’t so white, were they? No, no…no. Blood had dripped onto the suit, speckled bits of red like burst holly on freshly fallen snow. The cold, even within the partitions, was biting. It was going to snow, soon. It was going to snow, and the Chesapeake Ripper had his fucking watch.
“You wanted to play him,” Will murmured, and it made so much sense. His throat was dry, and he swallowed, imagining the sort of music that would burst from someone like this, become from someone like this. He took a musician, and he made his very skin, his very bones into an instrument to play for the masses. A true arrogance, to take one so talented and make him your own toy to play at your leisure. He wondered what sort of thoughts pervaded the mind of someone that wondered the notes they could draw forth from the neck of the dead.
Nothing tasty, surely.
Will closed his eyes, and there was a flash of light that turned his lids pink –likely a reporter in the distance trying to get a good photo. He inhaled, and the taste was on his tongue, the scent of whatever had bleached his vocal chords stung his nose, and just in the distance, Will swore that he could hear the sort of music that would make tears come to even the hardiest of men’s eyes.
It would be mellow –something along the D-string, fingers fretting over the vibrato. Will swayed to the sound of it, the crooning lilt that made his bones vibrate, and he imagined the care it must have taken to lay him out so kindly, to share such art with the world –
-Art? Surely, in this man’s eyes, it was art. But for Will, too?
“Will?”
It wasn’t his name that pulled him from the sound, the sensation that sent goosebumps along his arms. It was more the tone, he supposed, and how it didn’t mesh in the least with F-Harmonic notes that settled deep like the ache of overworked muscles. He looked to the entrance of the tent where Jack was busy observing him, and he supposed that out of any time to be caught not quite ‘all there’ this wasn’t a good one.
“This isn’t an act of anger,” he said, and he cleared his throat to relieve the hoarseness from it. “Not at all.”
“He isn’t punishing the musician?” Jack snorted. “Seems like jealousy to me.”
“No, no, it’s –” Will scowled and rubbed at his mouth, swallowing down a foul word “–elevation, Jack, he’s…elevating them. They’re probably good musicians, aren’t they? First chairs, second chairs…he’s taking them, and he’s making them more. He’s making their music something that comes from within, something…”
He clenched at the air, grasping for the words that didn’t want to come easily. Jack stood by the entryway, patiently impatient as he waited.
“He’s… making them more than what they are,” Will finished lamely. “Taking the core of what brings their happiness, and taking that art and passion and ingraining it into their skin. That’s what he’s doing.”
Jack nodded and looked to the man, mulling a few thoughts around his head as he thought. It left Will feeling anxious. His watch didn’t buzz to tell him that he’d better take a walk through the office –is that what he’d be doing right now? He made a move to check the time, then hissed out a curse when he realized once more that it wasn’t fucking there.
“His intestines are missing,” Jack revealed. “Are you sure this isn’t the Chesapeake Ripper, Will?”
“Yeah, Jack, this…this is different. The Chesapeake Ripper isn’t so much a man succumbing to intrusive thoughts –this feels intrusive. Thoughts that pervade the mind until…” He gestured lamely to the corpse. The cello. The art. “And I’d say it’s here because he probably wants his name in the column, too.”
“Are you going to give him that satisfaction?”
“…No. One too many psychos, I think.”
“One too many psychos,” Jack echoed.
He was let go after he sighed a few things, and he headed into the office with an odd, lingering sound just at the edge of his hearing, like the haunting vibrato of a cello’s wavering song.
He tried to banish it, shove it to the far back of his mind where it could lay to rot and wither like his other tasteless thoughts, but there seemed to be a genuine lack of control. His thoughts leapt with short, electric burst, rapid sensations like the quick blinks of his eyelids, watering at the gust of AC that hit him as he walked by the lobby desk: the cop, the watch, the music, the throat, the cello, the need, the violence, the fury, the feel of the Ripper’s blade against his stomach, the putrid muck that fed through his veins like a poison because it’s no wonder you can relate to someone like this, considering your own tasteless, horrendous penchant for violence.
“Will, there you are –come on; are you coming?”
It wasn’t Beverly that yanked him unceremoniously from his thoughts, but Freddie. Just inside the elevator, she swung a checkered arm out to hold the door for him.
“Charlie is having a field day, you know,” she said as he stepped into the elevator. It chimed shut and shuddered before lifting. “Where the hell were you?”
“…I lost my watch,” he said. It sounded far more blank than morose, an odd feeling attached to it –confusion and disbelief rather than anger.
“Your watch?”
“It wakes me up in the morning,” he explained. “I don’t know where I left it.”
Freddie eyed him with extreme prejudice. It was reminiscent of the woman on the bus and Bryan poised beside the corpse, and it made a trickle of anger slither up his throat and lodge itself just at the back of his mouth. He had to resist the urge to spit it out at her.
“That out there him?” she asked.
“No. Someone else, someone…”
Someone that really shouldn’t be my problem right now.
Freddie laughed, sparing him the elongated, pregnant pause. “Wow, Graham, you’re really shook up. Did your grandma buy you that watch or something?”
The elevator dinged onto their floor.
“I never knew my grandma.”
“Okay.” She gave him another sidelong stare. “Just letting you know, Charlie’s-”
“Pissed, I’m late, there’s a dead guy on the steps outside, my watch is gone, and-”
“-waiting for you in the conference room,” Freddie finished. “Someone else is there to see you.”
That stopped him. Will turned towards the conference room rather than Charlie’s office, and he spared Freddie a confused, uncomfortable look.
“Yeah, someone’s in there to see you,” she said, and her mouth of secrets twisted into something akin to a smile. “See, not all bad.”
Not all bad, she said. Could still be somewhat bad, somewhat…
Just who in the hell would want to see him?
“I’ll go see to that, then,” he said distractedly, and he headed towards the conference room.
“Thank you,” Freddie prompted.
“You’re welcome,” Will replied.
He didn’t hesitate by the door because that would be cliché –Will Graham wasn’t much a person for such things as that. Instead, he walked right in with his shoulders hunched, his messenger bag digging into his collarbone, and his tie bunched up, half-hanging out of his coat –this he only realized when he saw a faint, faded reflection of himself in the windowpane across from him. He stared at that image of himself: glasses crooked, clothing rumpled, hands bunched to fists in his pockets. His reflection was more of the person that he generally tried to present at Tattler news; something innocent to be trusted and left well enough alone. He wondered how his colleagues would have described him, hunched over their keyboards with the pressure of deadlines on their back.
Something much like that reflection, he supposed. Nothing at all like the reality of himself. Nothing at all like what the Chesapeake Ripper was trying so desperately to reveal to the world.
“Will,” Charlie grunted. He stood from his chair at the head of the table, and the look he gave Will could have melted steel beams. “Glad you could make it.”
“…Rough morning,” Will managed after a beat. “Sorry,” he tacked on hastily.
“Well, you’re here. So is your guest.” Charlie gestured off to the side, although the look on his face barely softened. “I’ll leave you to it.”
Whatever lecture Will had been expecting wasn’t to happen, it seemed. Charlie excused himself from the room, nudging and shoving past Will who hadn’t managed to leave the doorway. Fight or flight instinct, he supposed. He needed an exit close.
It took too long for him to see her there, hunched back towards the small AV station where the TV and work videos rested, collecting dust. She was a thin, slight girl with classically straight brunette hair and pale skin found in most rural, mid-American homes. She turned to look at him only after Charlie had left, and although her clothes were plain, they seemed to be a sturdy, expensive make.
“Hello, Mr. Graham,” she said, and despite the watery, uncertain stance, her voice came out strong and sound. “It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Who are you?”
She smiled. “I didn’t expect you to recognize me, although I recognized you immediately. My name is Abigail Hobbs.”
