ICONS Superpowered Roleplaying The Assembled Edition . It blows my mind to pieces that Green Ronin Publishing, the company that put out the Dragon Age tabletop RPG is the same Green Robin Publishing that our out ICONS, a Superpowered Roleplaying game. Don’t get me wrong, I know that publishers will release different titles by different authors and creators. It’s just that this retail USD $34.99 ttrpg is 3/4 the size of a standard RPG book is something else than what I’m used to playing. The biggest complaint I saw in commentary before purchasing this game is the art. The art was too cartoonish, too basic. Too simple. Well, much as I like beautiful flowing art in my games, if the game is good then to hell with the art. Play the game. Since my post on Army of Darkness, I’ve been reading ICONS (Superpowered Roleplaying); I’m not just flipping through it, I’m reading it. This is a D6 game whose character creation is simple, whose rules are simple, whose gameplay is meant for players to be ready and able to jump right in. Hero creation is easy enough. You can roll for random background or choose it at the GM’s discretion, and from there you roll 2D6. I added the level determination chart to the story here so you can see for yourself. From start to finish of character creation, you’ll be rolling 2D6, from background through powers, power types and specialties. As aforementioned, if the game master approves, you can choose a background, powers and specialties, only having to roll for the strengths of each. . If you’ve played other Superhero RPGs, it all really comes down to choice, setting and atmosphere. A Supervillain Is Born.

Green Ronin Publishing released “Icons: Super Powered Roleplaying (assemble)” 08 October 2014. I’ve been looking for a good superhero RPG since TSR releases Marvel Superheroes Advanced Set. TSR’s Marvel Superheroes advances set published 01 July 1986, and I’d not actually play it until September of 1992... but when I did play it, I was hooked. It’s long out of print (you can still find its PDFsout there), and I’ve been searching. Champions Complete is interesting, but maybe a little too complicated for my kiddos. I saw this and decided that I would give it a shot. It only had rave reviews.
