S Rank - Yes, a LOT of them are literally just most of Series 2 & 3 with a dash of Series 1. Alvarez arc was a nice way to tie up a lot of loose ends and stories. Starting with Natsu's backstory of who he is and how he arrived to where he needed to be at Fairy Tail, Zeref, Acnologia, Dragon Slayers. A lot of people hate the 'fake out' deaths, but like... it's Fairy Tail, by this point I don't think anyone expected anyone to die. MHA and Naruto sure get "oh someone died" but they were like... basically minor/side/unknown people. I liked the culmination of who Zeref is and Mavis, both people responsible for the story to exist, and Acnologia. And while people will say "But Anna and Ichiya did a great job defeating Acnologia!" and yeah, but this is an issue for many shounen series. Zeref and Acnologia were both two antagonists that were critical for Natsu's story arc, one because of his birth and the other to avenge Igneel. Also it helps we got to see the fruits of the entire series of bonds being made coming back up to defend Ishgar and Fairy Tail. Not only that, but Gray actually admits he might actually like Natsu as an actual good friend of his despite them always fighting. I'm a sucker for these kinds of stories, an while yeah, Fairy Tail, no one dies, but it was still tense. I'm really okay with it because..... after reading Akame ga Kill and Goblin slayer, I'm 10 billion % okay with it. Tartaros in itself is a nice dark story, I mean, it involved demons. That in itself was cool. Not to mention the arc starts WITH THE ENTIRE COUNCIL BEING BLOWN UP. Like, can you ask for such an amazing intro? Not only that but we get answered about the mystery surrounding the disappearing dragons for our Generation 1 Dragon Slayers. The demons themselves are interesting. Some are ... **coughs** . One of my favorite scenes, is literally just Cana turning everyone into cards before the Guild blows up, and the three Exceeds just take to the skies towards Tartaros with the entire deck of the guild. It's like a friggin war before Alvarez was a thing. Gray gets some closure with his dad and sorta is able to move on with his past, and Lucy & Wendy both take a huge step forward in closing the gap. Both of them lacked a lot in the "combat department" but this arc really gave them a boost to work on for later. Not to mention we're introduced to Devil Slaying, and the revelation of who E.N.D. is. Grand Magic Games is definitely in my top favorite "tournament arcs" in anime. We're introduced to basically TWO anti-Fairy Tail guilds, Sabertooth and Raven Tail (The literal anti- Fairy Tail guild). It was basically a fun games tournament. What makes it top for me is that it's not JUST fighting. Yeah there's quite a bit, but we have really dumb stuff like... literally a race. hide n seek. Gauntlet (changed to strength testing), some weird swimsuit pool sphere thing. I mean yeah you can argue "fighting" still happens, but it was still fun to see something other than 1 v 1 fights. And even then the actual 'fight' battles were fun to see. Then we get a 2nd conspiracy plot of a plan to try and kill Zeref, some time travel of x years from the future, DRAGON INVASION, I mean sheesh. It started as a fun tournament full of bragging rights basically an it became a full on survival or die situation. Avatar Arc is one of the shorter ones, but it was still a nice "getting the band back together" shtick. It was also a nice 'preview' of our Team Natsu gang and what they've accomplished in just a year of training on their own. I mean. Natsu melted the stadium and everything just on his return. I also enjoyed like how this cult of Zeref supposed to matter, and like, they're taken out so quickly it's like they were the villains from 5 seasons ago. Not only that, but right before it transitions into the final arc we get a small backstory of Zeref and how he came to be immortal and the circumstances around Natsu being E.N.D. A - Rank. This is the one where it COULD have been an S for me, but there are like, 1 minor thing or something.

Sun Village was a nice transition to introduce us into the Tartaros arc, and we get a nice little backstory and redemption for Flare from a previous arc. We also get a glimpse into the "demons of tartaros" and "devil slaying magic" as well as a return of our good 'ol friend Atlas, again, from a previous arc. :3 Only thing keeping it a bit up, was that the treasure hunters, while interesting and ties more into Fairy tail Zero, could have been better.

Tenrou Arc is a nice story as it semi paid off the mention of both Zeref and Acnologia, as well as the connection Zeref had with Natsu. We also get background on our favorite booze hound, Cana, and her connection with Gildarts, as well as learning more about Fairy Tail's history as we're introduce to Hades/Precht who was originally the Fairy Tail Master Prior to Makarov. We also conclude Ultear's story that started in the Galuna arc alongside Ur's and Gray's story. I thought the teams were neat, and the examination part prior to Grimoire Heart's invasion was fun to see, especially seeing more sides of other characters like Fried and Bicslow. Laxus's entrance and the introduction of the Fire Lightning Dragon mode was great. Honestly though, I think it could've been slightly better paced, but overall still fun.

Macao arc. I bunched these shorter arcs because. They're basically the 'intro' arc still. In just these episodes we not only get to know about Lucy, Natsu, Happy, but even the Fairy Tail Guild. In the daybreak we first officially see Natsu and Lucy begin their team, that would later be added with Gray, Erza, and then Wendy. Nothing to complain.

Fairy Tail Zero. I am a sucker for backstories, especially Mavis's, and this arc just. stabs your heart to death. It's a prequel basically, and we know the fates of everyone here. Not to mention we understand her connection to the Guild and how she met Zeref. It's an A because it stabbed my heart to death.

Galuna Arc. Gray is the first character aside from Lucy and Natsu we learn to understand why he has that stripping habit, out of context it's funny, in context, it stabs your heart. xD We also get a follow up to 'another' of Zeref's demons. The pace could have been slightly better, but overall, still great. I also loved the lore about Happy’s egg and the backstory of Lisanna and how she played a role early in Natsu’s life.

Tower of Heaven. I think this is one of the biggest changing story arcs for our little team. It sets up not only Erza's backstory and reasoning for her personality, but also for other Villains down the road, the Oracion Seis. We're also introduced to 'Dragon Force', the temporary super saiyan-like power up for Dragon Slayers. One of the greatest things is how Erza is before & after this arc occurs. She goes from a "cold locked heart" member of the Guild to fully open her heart for the first time in ages.

|| Oh look, a Fairy Tail story arc tier ranking. I had something bigger in mind but I thought to start with just this. I'll be reblogging with reasons why each arc is in each tier, so if you're curious they will be labeled. The overall explanation wound up to be like. Five pages. So. Yeah I had a lot to say for some. Also to clear things up, I combined the first set of episodes up until the introduction of Erza into one arc because.... they're all very short and I felt it was easier talking about the entire segments as one as they sorta still count as an 'introduction' arc. Also this is strictly going by the anime as I've just rewatched it and I had to use the wikia to remind me which story arcs because I wasn't keeping track. Lol For the rundown: S-Tier: Alvarez Arc, Tartaros Arc, GMG Arc, Avatar Arc. A-Tier: Sun Village Arc, Tenrou Arc, Macao/Homecoming Arc, Fairy Tail Zero Arc, Galuna Arc, Tower of Heaven arc. B-Tier: Edolas Arc, Eisewald arc, Battle of Fairy Tail arc, Phantom Lord arc. C-Tier: Starry Sky/Infinity Clock arc, Loke arc, Oracion Seis/Nirvana Arc. D-Tier: Daphne Arc. F-Tier: Eclipse Celestial Spirits Arc.
