Ice Without Gravity
Tumblr media
Astronaut Don Pettit is back in space, and that means lots of awesome microgravity experiments. Here, he grew thin wafers of ice in microgravity in a -95 degree Celsius freezer.  (Image credit: D. Pettit/NASA; via Ars Technica; submitted by J. Shoer) Read the full article

i hate to say it, like i love watcher, but my thoughts on them leaving youtube is this is too much too soon, like the bulk of their fans are probs younger/unable to afford another subscription fee, plus youtube has always been where they've been?? it's just so stark to go from this being the site you put your content on for years and then to go full cold turkey, no more posting on youtube ever
and i'll be honest, they don't have enough content to warrant a separate site/subscription all together. dropout is able to pull it off because they have the full rotation of shows and cast as well (dnd, game changer, etc), whereas for watcher, they only have a few couple really successful shows and those are primarily only focused on ryan and shane.
and tbh, i don't think they have a big enough audience to launch it either, like their marketing team could do better on advertising their shows! like, i haven't been keeping up with their recent shows cause either i don't see it on my youtube algorithm at all or i have to go out of my way to go see it.
and i don't know this just feels like a kick to the face to their fans, like even dropout has shorts on youtube and keeps up all their content on youtube like some episodes and the entirety of season one of fantasy high, and now i'm seeing in the comments, that their international fans outside of the usa won't even able to subscribe cause of how payment works which is :///, so yeah, watcher, it's been nice knowing ya, but i don't know how this move will turn out for you, i'm sorry to say

Very tired of the shadowy/darkness-themed brooding male love interests in fantasy romance books. Especially the ones where the character revolves heavily around sex / sexualization.
This is especially irritating when they are 'healed' or complete as people because they are dating the protag. Seriously. It just promotes that toxic 'You can fix him with love' concept. This is such an inherently harmful message.
Not saying those kind of broody characters shouldn't be allowed to exist at all. However, the dominance of that character type over other portrayals in romance especially, subscribes to the common notion of masculinity having only one desirable form.
The main lead does not have to be the most powerful, the most virile, most tragic or most intimidating.
It's shallow and overdone.
Why can't the men and boys in these leads also be written as thoughtful and warm, sunlight characters. Soft hands and gentle voices. Complex and spirited and vibrant. Let them also be kind, lovely and full of quiet things.
I have so many thoughts on this general topic that go into way too many directions to summarize in one post.

This is an entirely self-indulgent SOMA/Splatoon crossover, haha. (a reworked au, as those who have seen certain other posts of mine may know)
So, helmet/head is a Octocopter helmet. Arms are the hoses of Octotroopers. Legs are the ones of a Octopod. And the internals of the torso is a Octoling Soldier's inktank.

"Jon will want me. Even if no one else does." - arya
that's RIGHT! he WILL! sorry to the surely very few "arya is too far gone" truthers - jon STRONGLY disagrees. when he decides to save "arya" from ramsay, jon wonders if they'll even recognise each other. he struggles to reconcile the memory of the scrappy little sister he loved and the girl forced to be ramsay's "bride". he knows she might have suffered and she might have changed... and then he sacrifices EVERYTHING to try and save her anyway!!! this arya is symbolically and LITERALLY a completely different person and jon still loves her unconditionally. arya doesn't NEED redeeming in any significant way - what she needs is love and healing and not even death is going to prevent jon "big brother of the year" snow from providing it, thank you for coming to me NED talk.

Does Jaime’s golden hand point towards him being the valonqar?
What stands out to me is the shared meaning of the golden hand for Jaime and Tyrion, which is introduced for both as a symbol of their station - the gold chain of office for Tyrion as Hand of the King, and Jaime's golden hand as a replacement for his sword hand. Tyrion and Jaime see the qualities associated with each as central to their personalities and their worth to the court and to the realm. Tyrion was chosen as Hand for his intelligence and cunning. Jaime was raised to the kingsguard for his daring and skill with a sword.
For each of the Lannister brothers, the first mention of their golden hands are linked to their respective lovers:

We also have proof of both of these women being unfaithful- Shae with Tywin and Cersei with Lancel and the Kettleblacks (and Moon Boy for all we know).
Tyrion gets his revenge for this unfaithfulness by strangling Shae with his golden hands - the chain of office for the Hand of the King:

But how might this foreshadow Jaime being the valonqar?
Well, up until this point, we have seen Jaime enact justice with his golden hand (to RonCon for his mistreatment of Brienne, and to Ryman Frey for his incompetence and mistreatment of Edmure):

We’ve also seen him fantasise about how he might carry out further acts of what he views as justice (again using his golden hand):

He's even dreamed of how he might use his golden hand to punish Cersei:

In light of all of this, it's interesting to consider the Maegi's prophecy, which states that Cersei will be strangled to death by her younger brother:
Tumblr media
Given that Tyrion exacted revenge on his unfaithful lover by choking her with his golden hands, it's not outside the realm of possibility that Jaime will be the one to strangle Cersei (an unfaithful lover, and someone who he thinks deserves justice for her actions).
