"Perhaps... Though I would hope that one was alluding to end of year cleaning rather than food shortage..." The kitchen duty swords had taken the task of cleaning out the fridge and pantry. Though he had heard some complaints about portion sizes getting smaller. Technically that could be attributed to the influx of new swords and it just being a matter of whoever is cooking needing to figure out the right amount to make.
Maybe it was a side effect of the amount of time he spent in Iko but Kashagiri would get these strange premonitions once in a while.

Kashagiri leaves Iko, but Iko doesn't leave him.
Taikogane asks him why there’s no light in his eyes.
Kashagiri doesn’t answer that he can’t remember if there was ever any to begin with.
He can’t remember how long he had been watching over that place, the wails of the dead endlessly echoing in his mind even now.
He can’t even remember what his life was like between when he was summoned as a tsukumogami and when he was sent to Iko to act as the watchman.
All he remembers is the feeling in his chest when his brother’s piercing gaze met his own, dispelling the fog that had clouded over him.
But he doesn’t even know what to call that feeling.
Elation? Confusion? Dread?
“Oi, Sada, quit bothering him.”
Kashagiri is snapped out of his thoughts by Ookurikara reprimanding Taikogane.
“Sorry!” Taikogane doesn’t sound very apologetic.
Ookurikara looks at Kashagiri, though his usually unreadable expression seems to have a tinge of softness.

"I was heading back inside but... sure, why not?" At least this way Kashagiri can just follow Taikogane back in when they're done.
Not that he has any experience with these sorts of games. Or games in general. He tended to keep to himself, though occasionally he would be with the other Uesugi swords, whether it was helping Gokotai with his tigers, watching Azuki and Kenshin bake (and helping out if they asked), or occasionally brushing Himetsuru's hair. He doesn't really know anyone outside of his circle, though Taikogane seems like someone important to Ookurikara.
With Kashagiri's help, Sada stands, panting just a little as he gets his wind back.
"Yeah! I'm fine-- my toe's a little sore, I just hit the ground kinda hard is all."
He laughs again, this time the sound is more full as usual.
"I was playing with some of the other tantous, but I got a little confused about the rules and stuff... What were you doing? Did you want to play too? I could try to explain it if you want."

Kashagiri is about to open the main fridge when Horikawa decides to open the box, and stops when the other wakizashi finds exactly what Kashagiri had came here for.
"Huh..."
The little cat hiding in his hoodie jumps out and is practically vibrating in excitement.
"I'm getting it, I'm getting it." He puts the little guy back on his shoulder before it decides to jump into the icebox.
He turns to Horikawa, "I'll be taking it, if that's okay."
Tumblr media
Horikawa can't help but to stare at that cute ice box. He has a feeling it's meant for the honmaru's smaller critters, like Nakigitsune and Hakusan's fox familiars, or Gokotai's little tigers...
... Or specifically Kashagiri's little cat friend.
He puts away the last groceries into the pantry, and having his curiosity getting the best of him, crouches down to open the small ice box.
"... Oh that's where the extra smoked salmon and rice went!"

Despite having been here for a few months now, Kashagiri isn't completely familiar with the layout of the citadel. Especially the outside. He's gotten lost in the fields more than he would like to admit, and today seems to be no different.
He's noticed some of the tantous flitting about, probably playing some kind of game, but he isn't about to ask for directions. Maybe he'll just stay here with them until they decide to go back inside.
Except he's lost sight of them. Was it tag they were playing? Or something else? He can't even tell.
Kashagiri is about to just sit down in the grass when he hears what sounds like someone falling. He runs over to the source of the noise and finds Taikogane laying on the ground at the bottom of a hill.
He takes the tantou's hand and pulls him up. "...Are you okay?"

"Yeah, that's probably it..."
Kashagiri follows the other wakizashi's gaze to the corner of the room. That box definitely wasn't there yesterday.
Well, it isn't his so he's not going to touch it. Though he has to wonder why they'd need an ice box out during the winter. They'd have one out during the summer for extra ice cream and the like, but in this weather? Not to mention this box is rather small.
"I would certainly hope so."
Tumblr media
Horikawa has heard of the same plight a few times. As far as he remembers, their saniwa had also been equally vigilant on checking the inventory even though he had specifically assigned Shokudaikiri (the best man for the job really) to oversee all kitchen affairs. So the chances of food shortage, while never zero, is most likely low.
"The weather's been cold lately too, so it makes sense that a lot of us tend to eat more than usual to keep warm for the most part. I think the end of year cleaning makes up of that too."
He notices a tiny ice box next to the fridge, no bigger than half an arm's length. Odd.
