The Staves - Tired As Fuck
#asks#ialpiriel#I feel like all the time I'm saying 'this song is one of my favorites' but maybe they are you know. maybe they all are#anyway this song is one of my favorites!! no bad lines in this song#also fantastic that it came on right as your ask came in right as I was working on closing other tabs as prep for going to bed#perfect timing <3 <3 <3#I mean I guess if I were minded to be cynical about it I'd say I have chronic insomnia and the odds of the song playing when I wasn't tired#are pretty low we'll say. fairly low#but I'm not minded to be cynical today today I am going to water all my plants and feed the birds and brush my teeth#and sleep the sleep of the big lazy weekend slacker. it's Saturday!!!! today I sleep more than six hours if it takes all day!!!!

Back to doing NewMeal again. Goddamit I'm gonna try.
10/8/24: pork chops with apples, onions, and carrots
Recipe:
~20oz pork
2 apples (I used granny smith)
2 onions (I used yellow)
5 cloves of garlic
~4 medium carrots
2tsp chicken stock powder, paste, etc
2tsp garlic powder
2tsp onion powder
2tsp season salt
2tsp sugar
2tsp (idk, did this one by feel) dried thyme
Preheat oven to 425F. Slice your onions and apples into thin slices (¼" by whatever length). Slice your carrots into regular round coins or into fancy DIAGONAL coins. Finely chop your five cloves of garlic. Mix season salt, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cut your pork into portion chunks (I cut three big ass chops into halves) and season it with some thyme and the salt/powders mix. Don't use all of the seasonings on the pork. Lay the pork in the bottom of your pan/dish (I used a ~3qt corningware casserole dish that's a "family "heirloom""; a Dutch oven or other oven safe dish would also work). Toss your vegetables with the sugar, thyme, chicken bouillon, and the salt/powders mix. Dump it on top of your pork chops. Cover it and throw it in the oven for like 30 minutes, take it out, stir it, put it back for fifteen more minutes. If you then want your pork crispy on top (I like it that way) take the lid off and put it back in for like 5-10 minutes on broil with the chops on top. I served mine with roasted garlic instant mashed potatoes. It was good.
If you're a nervous cook you can throw like half a cup of water in there also. I did that this time and if I make this again I will not do it the second time (there is so much Wet in this recipe). Another alternate would be to sear your pork before you put it in the casserole (I think this would be very very good).
#ialpiriel NewMeal cookbook post#<- im making up a tag so i can find this post again#also so you can block it if you dont wanna hear about me cooking

WIP Wednesday
Sneaking this in before midnight aha. Thank you @myreia for the tag!
Tagging: @dreadfutures @chocochipbiscuit @rosella-writes @ialpiriel @tallbluelady and anyone else with something they'd like to share!
A bit from Harsh Light. Ariane and Alisaie's conversation at Camp Overlook goes on a bit longer.
***
Alisaie trailed off, still troubled. “Ah, pray forgive me. This conversation has been rather one-sided, hasn't it. Mayhap you could recount some of your adventures in Ishgard?”
There was much that Ariane could have said. She might have told Alisaie of their journey into Dravania, of Ysayle and Estinien, constantly at one another’s throats, yet moved to a kind of respect at long last. She might have spoken of Azys Lla, of the archbishop’s machinations and his defeat, of the changes that had come to Ishgard with the revelations of the past.
She might have tried to spin a tale of encouragement, of hope. Surely there was some to be found, even if it could never fill the hollow in her heart. And yet, with Alisaie’s candid words, she was moved to honesty.
“I lost someone very dear to me,” she said quietly. “In truth… I find myself struggling with many of the same questions. Why did he have to die? And what he gave his life for… was it worth it?”
Was I worth it? Why me, when everyone I love—
Alisaie turned to look at her, startled. “Oh, Ariane. Forgive me… Alphinaud mentioned that you’d lost some dear friends along the way. I didn’t realize there was someone… special to you. And here I am, rambling about my own troubles.”
“No, please, you’re not rambling! I’m happy to listen.”
“Well… the same goes for you! I won’t pry, but if you want to talk…” Alisaie eyed her, hesitant. “I would like to hear of him.”
So she told Alisaie of Haurchefant. Not everything, of course. But enough. Who he was, how he had come to be their friend and ally, how he had offered them aid in the rescue, and refuge when they had fled Ul’dah. “That carriage you sent got us as far as Black Brush station. From there… Cid carried us to Camp Dragonhead.” It still hurt to speak of it. To remember. Gods, what she wouldn’t give to sit before a fire with him once again. His had ever been a presence that said, Take heart! All is not lost.
He had been safety, comfort, and a well of unending faith in her.
All taken from her in a single, terrible flash of light.
All the same, she steadied herself with a breath, and did not break down as she recounted the tale to Alisaie. “Your brother was in poor spirits, needless to say. Haurchefant brought us hot chocolate, and he said to him, So, Master Alphinaud, are you content to remain a broken blade? Is there no flame hot enough to reforge you?’” In spite of everything, his words brought a smile to her lips even now. “’What of the fine companions who yet stand at your side?’”
Alisaie ventured a smile too. “I think I’d have liked him.”
“I dare say you would have. He was… kind, and brave. It was hard to despair, in his presence.”
“I’m sorry I hadn’t the chance to meet him.”
“I don’t blame you, you know,” Ariane said. “For leaving. …Did I ever tell you I had a sister?”
“I don’t believe you did.” Alisaie gave her a searching glance. “Had?”
“Her name was Gratienne. We weren’t twins, but we were quite close in age. A mere eighteen moons apart. Growing up, we were never far from each other… she was my dearest friend.” Ariane looked down at the grass, gathering dew in the cool of nightfall. “I suppose that might be why I’ve always struggled making friends. I never needed to… I had my sister. Or perhaps it is just me. Grati never had trouble. She was strong, and clever, and funny… You remind me a little of her, I must say.”
Alisaie was silent, waiting, so Ariane continued, “I lost her in the Calamity. Along with our parents.”
“I’m so sorry.”
“We were best friends… but like you and Alphinaud, we weren’t much alike. She was the adventurous one… I was the obedient little mouse with her shoes lined up.” Ariane sighed. “She wanted to be an adventurer. And yet here I am… and she never got the chance. It’s terribly unjust, really. And it’s my fault. It was I who convinced her to stay home, and keep Mother happy. And perhaps if I hadn’t… What I mean to say is, never let anyone shame you for seeking your own path. Not even Alphinaud. He might not understand yet, but he will in time.”
“Thank you.” Alisaie cast a glance at her, drawing her knees up to her chest. “…Don’t blame yourself, for your sister’s choices. I daresay if she’s anything like you describe her, there must have been some part of her, too, that wanted to stay, or you couldn’t have made her. Just as Alphinaud couldn’t have made me, even if he tried.”
“I—thank you,” Ariane said, though she did not quite believe it. She smiled. “I am glad to know you, Alisaie.”
At that, Alisaie smiled too. “And I you, Ariane.”

Last line tag meme
Last line tag meme - tagged by @euhemeria
Rules: in a new post, show the last line you wrote (or the last wip you drew) and tag as many people as there are words (or however many you like).
“I mean that women deserve a chance to fuck up and learn, too.”
Looks a little bare out of context, but eh! That's what you get! A snippet of dialogue from the Fraud Squad Anya/Raina hatemance fic that I fully expect crickets on when I finally post, but at least I'll have made one tiny fic for one tiny fandom!
Thank you for thinking of me @euhemeria!
Now for my own victims I mean friends! I tag @bittylildragon, @anneapocalypse, @wolffyluna, @vialofpoisonfics, @ialpiriel, @deacons-wig, @replicafatale, @razrogue, @h1bernate, @commander-diomika, @imakemywings, @psykopsy. and @quandary-peak if you guys are so inclined!

last six lines
tagged by @corpocyborg to share the last six lines of a WIP.
tagging @dread-red-queen and @ialpiriel (no pressure!) and anyone else who is writing and would like to play
most of my WIPs are more like primordial oozes filled with notes and asides than a first draft, so the one I could find *is* horny, although it's not explicit, but anyway be forewarned lol
Kerry Eurodyne, a distant part of her brain reminds her in awe– the part of her that had never known how he’d looked when he’d been twenty-two and would moan for anybody who’d suck on his neck.
He runs his fingers slowly through her hair again, a smug smile spreading over his flushed and bloody lips. “Too bad you left your dick at home.”
One of her dicks, anyway. The one she wants to use. Another is still sweeping through these rented offices looking for the people trying to kill them. And when he’s done she won’t have Kerry to herself anymore.
#tag game#the ghost of johnny in her brain who can't stop competing with kerry#vs the real johnny getting called a dick and not even the one she wants#fleeting fits of reason

oooooh so! for fic recs! I would ask for Dead Three fic recs for BG3 but I think we have read all the same things so Tyranny!!!
Anything with lush prose and Bleden Mark.
And anything with my fav problematic beastwife Kills-In-Shadow :D
i was under the impression i will be easily able to recommend tyranny fics - and then i remembered most of what i read was in russian OTL
from english ones, I really liked the Bleden Mark & Fatebinder It's A Hundred Thousand Miles Off, Coming Closer Every Day by ialpiriel and Ad Coleum by Nebulad, both short and sweet and dialogue-heavy, which I enjoy
there's absolutely nothing in english that's Killsy-centric which i consider a crime and a personal attack (she's the ideal woman. you may not like it, but that's what female peak performance looks like)
i would shamelessly rec my fics - if i ever finished and posted them
#thank you for this ask. i got hit with a wave of nostalgia that nearly killed me#i promised myself if i successfully defend my engineering thesis i will replay tyranny and write some fics and art some art for it#as a reward#i've been thinking abt it recently (tho i'm often thinking abt it bc its one of my fav games ever)#abt how much some of the themes in bg3 reminded me of some themes in tyranny#specifically on a durge run. if you know you know#i will say shit like 'manva with her whole conduit of energy theme would make a banger kyros-aligned fatebinder' and not elaborare#also lae'zel is killsy-coded#which might explain why i love her so#as an aside#if ur in a mood for a whole-ass novel u should read 'his own medicine'. a nerat-centric post-game AU written by a friend#always here to eagerly shill for my friends :3

7 & 24?
7) what color brings you peace? I got this question twice and I'm trying to think how to answer it. Soft warm dark cool tones, I think--sounds so odd to say 'warm cool tones' but I mean warm as in saturation and cool as in greens and blues. am I using these color words right--I like shadowy forest colors, the sky late in evening, black cats in sunshine. I have no idea how to say this so it makes sense.
24) what’s something you do to de-stress? I was thinking about this just last night, actually, because I got stuck waiting on a colleague to do their part of a work project and I was getting really tetchy, and then I went and cooked a more complicated dinner than normal--I think it's the accomplishing things that fixes me. I like to solve a problem, make progress on something multifaceted, create something new, anything like that. I have to get my brain to chew on something new, to get it to stop chewing on me.

A quick glance at the adventurer’s countenance had revealed what might have been curiosity and might have been bemusement; he had found it difficult to tell, as oft he did with strangers.
A few days late here but thank you for the tag! I am not going to tag that many people but: @ialpiriel @chocochipbiscuit @farfromdaylight if you feel like it. :)
Last Sentence Tag Game
RULES: Post the last sentence you wrote (fanfic / original / anything) and tag as many people as there are words in the sentence.
@clockwayswrites was kind enough to tag me.
"Do you remember anything else about her that might help?!"
[I love that this gives nothing away. It could be for anything. But hey, it's actually from My Graveyard Song. Teehee]
Also no pressure to anyone I tag. Just for fun, if you feel like it

15 lines of dialogue
Thank you for the tags @redwayfarers and @lilas!
Tagging: @farfromdaylight @dreadfutures @rosella-writes @darethshirl @ecosystem-administrator @ialpiriel @ishgard
Rules: Share 15 or fewer lines of dialogue from an OC, ideally lines that capture the character/personality/vibe of the OC. Bonus points for just using the dialogue without other details about the scene, but you're free to include those as well!
These are all going to be from unposted works in progress, but here we go. 😉
"If this is the price of the Blessing of Light—if you're going to take everyone I love, over and over again, then I don't want it! Do you hear me? I don't want it, I don't want it, I don't…"
"You didn't have to do this. You helped save Ishgard, too. You should be here to see the changes you wrought."
“I’ll be honest, I never imagined anyone would use the word ‘formidable’ to describe me. I do most of my work standing behind someone with a sword.”
“It’s not that. I’ve trained under people who didn’t like me or believe in me before. I can handle it. It was… he started going on about how archery was a Wildwood discipline, passed down through generations. He said I could never understand.”
"My home is gone. There’s nothing for me to go back to. I’m not Gridanian. I’m not Ishgardian. I’m not anything. I’m not even… I’m not even one of you. The Scions. Not really. You’ve all known each other for years, you knew Master Louisoix, you have all this history. I’m just some farm girl you pulled off the street because I had headaches and saw things. No matter what people call me, even the ones who think I’m a hero, I’m never one of them. I save the day, and then I move on. I never belong anywhere.”
"I understand you developed a unique variation on the carbuncle? I should love to hear about the theory behind it."
“He’d turn me loose in his library, and then ask me about what I’d read and what I thought of it. No care for what was appropriate for children, either! Ma used to argue with him about it, until she realized it was fruitless. ‘Books are for everyone,’ he’d say. ‘If she can understand it, then she can read it, and if she doesn’t she’ll put it down soon enough and find another.'”
“Urianger, this is important, so listen carefully. I want to hear everything about the fae. Everything. Should you ever doubt my desire to hear about something, you may ask me, ‘Ariane, wouldst thou care to hear of the intricacies of the customs of the fair folk?’ that I may assure you, my dear friend, that I do in fact want to hear all about it.”
“You knew that I would do what needed to be done no matter what, right? You knew that I would not turn from the plight of this star, no matter the danger to myself. That isn’t why you kept this from me, is it?”
"A smile better suits a hero. Perhaps it does, love. Perhaps it does, but I haven't one to give, at the moment."
"What do you know of his history? Do you know how it has haunted him, what he did to Minfilia? What he kept from us? Did you see him shut himself up in the Waking Sands, convinced he deserved neither comfort nor forgiveness?"
“How would I have done otherwise? When have I ever done anything but what other people told me to do? I couldn’t defy my own mother until she was dead.”
"Sometimes she was. Other times, she was a woman who gave in to all her worst fears about the world, one for whom everything beyond our doorstep was deadly and terrifying, and would have denied me a life because of it. But I dare say she was right about the tea. And the soup."
“I loved a woman once who gave up her life for me. And then I loved a man who did the same. And I’m so tired of losing people, I’m so tired—I don’t want anyone else to give up everything for me. I just want someone who will stay. Live with me. Be by my side. Be with me, whatever we face—together. I said I couldn’t ask you to change who you are, but it’s more than that. I don’t want you to change who you are. Just be with me.”
"Perhaps some things are meant to be. But the secret of our art is it's as much shaping the future as it is reading it. You've said yourself, love—you may accept what you see foretold, or defy it. As our dear Minfilia stood before the Flood of Light. It gives me some comfort to think that things can be changed. To believe—and I do—that the future is not set in stone."
#tag meme#15 lines of dialogue meme#ariane clairière#this was fun#i often wonder if i have any kind of a cohesive voice for her and it's very much a work in progress#so i like seeing some lines laid out for myself like this#writing stuff

Last Line Challenge, WIP Whenever
I was tagged by @the-cryptographer to post the last line of what I just wrote, and @anneapocalypse and @razrogue for WIP Whenever, and I've not responded to anything for a while, so! Combo platter!
Significantly more than a line, but it's the last thing I wrote for this WIP rewrite of the Awoo AU. :)
“Ms. Pentaghast?” Cassandra stiffened. The French-accented words had been spoken by an elegant woman with glossy black hair, and the sort of indeterminate age that spoke of wealth and carefully-maintained vanity more than any number of designer bags. She smelled…smoky, in a way that Cassandra had difficulty defining. Like a whiff outside an expensive cigar shop, something velvety against the back of the throat. “I don’t know you,” Cassandra said crisply. “That is true,” the other woman said. Her patronizing smile made Cassandra itch. “But I knew your brother. It is a shame that he’s died so young, no?” A cold prickle started at the back of Cassandra’s neck. She tilted her phone, quickly swiping towards Leliana’s number. Stiffly, she said, “The police are still investigating it as a missing person’s report.” “He was getting into things that he shouldn’t have. I do hope you won’t be following his steps, hm?”
I tag: @ialpiriel, @bittylildragon, @razrogue (yes, it's a tagback, but it's been a while!), @hcbunzie, @euhemeria, and @meikuree , and @foibles-fables if you are so inclined!

Ye olde rules: If you’re tagged, make a new post and share 1-2 (a few) sentences from your most recent unposted WIP(s) with zero context -- Let your followers guess!

Those were all things she knew but it was hard to argue with her animal brain, which wanted nothing more than to dive headfirst into Grade A cunt, by whatever means necessary.
(2)
V smiles, showing just a sliver of her teeth. “I’m going to die. Especially since the person who could tell me exactly how fucked I am just left town yesterday morning.”
(3)
“What are you doing?” Takemura’s voice shook him from his reverie, the man’s grip on his arms so tight it was painful. He shoved Johnny forward. “Run!”
