I've been trying to figure out a dynamic between neve and rye that I find more compelling, because right now there's not much of anything there for me to sink my little teeth into. but I think I've landed on something delicious with the idea that especially after minrathous gets fucked, rye looks at neve and sees myrna -- someone he feels he keeps letting down horribly no matter how hard he tries not to and can't quite achieve the approval of/connection with that he wishes so it's better to just pull away completely and disengage rather than stay in that unshifting shame. neve is (very understandably) measured and distant with him after what happened, and he's flashing back to his student days of myrna gazing at the perpetually hungover heartbroken heap of a person of him on the other side of her desk every time he missed the deadline of a paper or project like '...can we at least both agree that this is. a bit disappointing. especially considering your potential.' (and him all smudged black eyeshadow and numb ruefulness being like 'sure that's a very kind way to put it myrna thank you'.)
aside from the 'if I let him get too deeply into this he'll go the way of brom and it'll be all my fault (again)' element, neve thinks rye is dismissing her and her city/being a bit callous in the same way he was after varric's death (listen. how fucking wild must rook's reaction to losing a beloved mentor seem to the rest of the crew who aren't seeing the blood magic paper doll ghost varric the whole time, especially those who got to see them interact. you WOULD think 'there's something wrong with this guy. putting the job first is one thing just not seeming to react at all is another this is fucking freaky', wouldn't you, especially after seeing the warmth in that dynamic in action beforehand.) perfect storm of two people who grit their teeth and turn inwards in pain deciding that not talking about it is their best bet (NEWSFLASH: IT ISN'T) lmao
(rye spent his last year of watcher training on a mostly joyless bender and then got it together enough to finish the eternal orb project last moment in a fevered near-sleepless week instead of the half a year that was intended. emmrich is both astounded and distressed to hear this. "a week? but -- but that is an astounding accomplishment rook!! and also why in the maker's good light would you ever do that to yourself?" ("well you see there was no one to stop me from doing it like that but me. and under those conditions these things tend to happen".) rye was working through/looking up stuff around transitioning and doing every kind of OTHER high level watcher research through that whole time, but ultimately he's an excellent watcher and a terrible student, at least under traditional methods. adhd from here to the fucking moon. touched by something akin to divine inspiration in moments of high tension that pulls all the threads into one coherent unbreakable cord, a bit of a frayed mess in most other settings. in our world he'd be dropping out of a masters program at the very last hurdle in this moment maker bless and protect him)
#myrna is actually really proud of him for pushing through and becoming a very fine member of the mourn watch#(and a good man)#but she is also. well. myrna. so she has never expressed as much to him. So.... How are we about dav?
We are processing it for sure... Had to think about this ask for a bit.
I don't have the game and can't play it for a long while yet so I've just been receiving second-hand information, and watching my partner stream it (we're technically playing together since I'm picking the dialogue options with them...?) So I'm still trying to get as much as I can about it and then sitting with it.
I know some people have been having an absolute blast, while some have already told me they're disappointed and/or upset. I'm glad people are enjoying it and feel satisfied with the story, that's amazing. It's been a needed closure for sure after ten years. On my end, I'm personally a little underwhelmed.
Because look, I can see the creative direction, and I can see the messages and themes and all these beautiful narrative frameworks that the writers wanted to convey. I can see the story they wanted to tell, but the execution has suffered because the writing couldn't hold it up. Which is a shame because Dragon Age has always shone with its writing. It hasn't always been perfect but it's been solid. I've already been apprehensive and worried because of all the layoffs and turnovers, and I can definitely feel it in the final product.
I'm gonna ramble for a bit, I'll put it under a read more. Woe, spoilers ahead, including the ending!
Everything feels too clean, I'd say, which has been a common criticism for this game and I do agree with it. Dragon Age hasn't always been perfect with it, but it's still presented a lot of its conflicts in a morally grey light. It facilitated discussion (and discourse) about the characters' actions and motivations. But Veilguard's been very didactic about what you should feel. "This is bad, look how bad it is. We think this is bad. This is so bad. We don't condone this."
It feels like the game is backpedalling so hard out of fear that something will be presented "wrong" or that it will be problematic, and this ends up stripping the narrative and characters of their nuance to the point that it starts feeling generic and lifeless.
I've also noted the handholding in the dialogue but I've been told it eases up some later on in the game so there's that at least. I know it's to cater to new players, but at points you end up feeling like the game thinks you're a goldfish with short-term memory loss.
There's so much telling too in the dialogue. Off the top of my head, an example would be the point when you're first approaching D'Meta's Crossing and Bellara notes that this port used to be busy and so forth and it's always busy and then Neve remarks something isn't right. The dialogue feels clunky to me here. Yes, I can see that. The environment is already doing the storytelling. I can see crates and fresh produce and stacks of bags along the port. I can infer it used to be busy. You've set up this uneasy lighting and fog and desaturation so you feel something isn't right. Your environment is showing the story, so rely on it a bit more. There's no need to double down on it.
But again, this is just the first bit of the game, and maybe it gets better.
Then you have Mythal. Oh, Mythal. You are so interesting, so tragic, and so complex. But something about how her character was executed felt so... scattered? Something's nagging at me. Her character doesn't feel fully realised. I still have to get my thoughts in order about her, this is already getting too long lol.
I'm also baffled as to why the Inquisitor doesn't play a greater role. I honestly thought they would since this is a direct continuation of Inquisition. They're the reason Rook was even recruited by Varric in the first place.
Honestly, a lot of past choices just feel like they don't matter at all, which is also a shame because that's another charm to Dragon Age. You get to see this world that you've built over the course of the games, but that's just. Not here. I guess. Oh, and the Crows are good now, apparently? Did they go through a reform since Zevran's time or something...?
Look, I have a lot more thoughts on the game regarding other points, but maybe that's for another day. Can't reliably comment on the companions either as I haven't explored a lot of their stories yet.
Don't get me wrong, Veilguard has its strong points too. The environments are absolutely gorgeous and Ghilan'nain has a chokehold on me but that's just my love of body horror and female scientists who've thrown the book of ethics into the bin showing.
Also, FELASSAN. My boy!! I get to see and hear my favourite novel character at last! I'm so happy I got it right that he was a soldier. Got the rank wrong; he's a general, not a lieutenant, but close enough haha. His voice for sure surprised me but I loved it.
It's also so interesting to see the Dread Wolf side of Solas. He's not trying to hide anymore. Except, he still is. In Inquisition, the humble apostate was his armour. Now, it's the Wolf. It's a very fascinating intersection. The Solas we see now is running on fumes and desperation and has presumably been isolated for a decade (also, where the fuck are his agents??) and he's pulling out every trick he knows in the book just to get his goal done.
And the endings? Well, they're okay. I know some are happy with it, some not so. I'm lukewarm about them... I did enjoy the tension and I think 'satisfying' is a word I could use for it. But satisfying in the sense of "yeah okay, I'll take it". I can see the destination, and I can appreciate it, but the strength of the writing needed to get there didn't quite reach for me. Could've been way worse though (saw the alternate in the artbook for Veilguard), so small mercies with what we got.
A few parts shine for me still. I love Solas' body language in front of Mythal when she shows up. He looks so broken. It's so TELLING. That, for me, did so much more to convey their dynamic than the murals, I think. I also loved when Solas gets outwitted by Rook and he does that bitter chuckle and calls himself a fool. Delicious. Gareth David-Lloyd fucking killed it yet again with his voice acting in this game. I was also reminded a little of Loki's ending. Trickster god in a green realm and upholding the structure of the world anyone?
But yeah. Look, do I think Veilguard is a bad game? No, not at all. It's got its strengths and again, I can see the creative ambitions the writers wanted to get at, but it just wasn't fully realised. Likely due to all the complications during development. I think it's a good game if it's standing on its own. But as the fourth game in the franchise? It's mid for me...
Again, I'm genuinely happy for the people who are enjoying it and think it's delivered everything they've ever wanted. I'm also happy for the people who feel seen with the exploration of gender and identities in the game, and those whose headcanons have been confirmed. That's such a fantastic feeling. Definitely did a little dance myself at the whole "blight was sealed away" and "Solas was a spirit" confirmation, though those ones, I feel, were among the more obvious ones haha.
Let's be real though. We all know what the real best parts of the game are.
Assan and Manfred.

Romantic Experiment
SUMMARY: They want you to assist them with a simple experiment. They'll show you how it's done, maybe try to convince you to join the science club and definitely flirt along the way.
CHARACTERS: Science Club (Trey Clover / Rook Hunt)
TAGS: Fluff; GN Reader; Dating; Romantic Relationship; Flirting
WARNING: Do Not try Rook's experiment at home! Mercury is very Toxic! Trey's experiment is safe, tho.
WORD COUNT: An average of 1.330 words per character.
COMMENTS: If you follow me, you know that if I write more than 1k it's because I got excited and had more ideas than I expected. I relied on this page to learn about and describe the experiments. If I made a mistake somewhere, I studied arts, not science, ok? I’m sorry. 😅
I hope you enjoy 🧪
CONTEXT: Either you two are dating or already at the beginning of your relationship, so you're still in that flirting phase.
Trey and you were talking about the school clubs because you were wondering if you should join one. So, Trey suggests that you go with him to the science club one day to see if you like it and are interested in joining. But thinking about how demanding Professor Crewel can be, you comment that perhaps it is too difficult for you.
“Too difficult?” He smiled, that smile the other Heartslabyul students usually described as a protective older brother smile. “Don't worry, it's just a visit. And even if you want to join the club, no one will force you to do anything you can't do. We are free to do the experiences that interest us most. And of course, if you need help I will always be there for you.”
You met Trey at the classroom door just before the science club meeting started. Like you, he was already wearing his lab coat too.
“We're not going in yet.” He tells you. “I had an idea for a simple experiment that you might like. And I wanted you to participate in all the steps, or as many as possible, so I need you to come with me to get the components. Shall we?”
First you two go to Sam's Mystery Shop to buy yellow, cyan and magenta professional floral dyes and tonic water. You ask if the experiment is to make colorful flowers.
“I can't make that part a surprise, can I?” He says with a smile and his eyebrows arched in pity. “Let's say we're going to paint the roses but not just red. And speaking of which, they are the ones we are going to get now before going back to the classroom.”
Then he takes you to the botanical garden and leads you to a corner where white rose buds are growing.
“I took the liberty of planting them beforehand so we could start the experiment straight away.” He explains. “What you see are three different rose cultivars. Vendela, La Belle and Avalanche.” He indicates each one while saying the name. “They are said to be the best for absorbing dye. The dyeing process can take a few days, so an open bloom won’t last long enough. That's why we're going to use buds that have not fully opened. Could you help me pick them?” he asks rhetorically, just being the well-mannered man that he is.
If you take a moment to look at him concentrating on cutting the stems of the roses, he will smile at you, without taking his eyes off the flowers, and say: “As flattered as I am with you admiring me, I would really prefer it if you were more worried about not cutting yourself.” You were wearing gloves, so the rose thorns weren't as much of a concern as the scissors you were using to cut them.
He will finish picking his share of the roses faster than you pick yours, and he will stop to look at you. If you notice and look at him, he will say with a smirk: “I've already finished my part. Now it's my turn to admire you at work. You really are more attractive when you're focused.” and he will laugh at your reaction to that sudden comment. “Fine, I'll help you.” He says with his calm smile “Like I said, I don't want you to cut yourself.”
You only took the rose buds, but some of the other roses were already open. He picks one, hands it to you and in front of your eyes "Doodle Suit" the rose petals turn into your favorite color(s) with a soft whisper. You take the flower with a smile and he kisses your cheek.
He gets up, picks up the shopping bag with one hand and the dozen roses that you two picked with the other. “We can go back now. Everything else we need is already in the classroom.”
You were in the classroom with other science club members, but there was room for everyone. Trey was right, it was a simple and kind of relaxing experiment. You used a sharp blade to cut the stem of the roses into 3 sections. If you didn't feel confident using it, Trey would have no problem cutting the stems for you. You added dye and tonic water to three plastic bags. If you ask if you couldn't use regular water, he’ll say:
“Yes, regular water is commonly used, but tonic water creates a special effect that I want to be a surprise when I show it to you. So be patient okay?” he winks.
You carefully separated each section of stem and place it in its own bag of dyed water, used a rubber band to secure the bags to the roses and placed the flowers in a bud vase to keep them upright. You needed to place the flowers in a cool place, away from direct sunlight, so Trey suggested placing them under the table and making a sign warning other students to be careful.
“The petals will begin to change color within a couple of hours, but it may take a few days to achieve the best color.” He explains. “During this time, we need to make certain the roses don’t run out of liquid. Therefore, we may need to add more dyed water from time to time.”
For a couple of days you and Trey texted each other to arrange shifts to check the flowers and add more dye water. You saw the roses opening slowly and the the white petals turning into increasingly more vivid colors. The mixture of yellow, cyan and magenta made them a perfect rainbow color. You would often also find a small note written by Trey, usually inviting you to have tea and try some sweet treat that he made or was going to make for you.
And then one night, the two of you agreed to meet in the classroom because Trey thought the roses were ready. It was just the two of you. He turned on the lights and went to get the bouquet of rainbow roses. They were absolutely beautiful! He took out a flashlight and handed it to you.
“Do you want to find out what tonic water does?” He asked you with a quite excited smile. He takes his magic pen, points it at the lights in the room and turns them off. “Turn on the flashlight and point it at the roses.”
You do it. It was a black light that when pointed at the roses made them glow. The more amazed you are, the happier he will be. He hands you the bouquet and holds the lantern himself.
“I know this is going to sound a lot like Cater, but can I take a photo of you holding the roses? After all this was an experiment and I need to record the experiments I do.” You agree and he takes a photo with his cell phone while pointing the black light at the flowers. He looks at the photo with a smug smile.
“I can't wait to see Rook's face when he sees this photo.” You ask why. After all, this was a simple experiment. “It's not because of the experiment, it's because of the photo itself. It's a beautiful photo and he won't be able to deny it. And I'm not just talking about the roses.” He smirks.
You ask if it wouldn't be a good idea to take a photo with him too, after all he was the main scientist. He laughs, and agrees, and the two of you take a selfie with the flowers, the black light on the table and pointed at the two of you. He looked even more attractive with the rainbow glow of the roses pointing at him. And in the middle of the night. He looked at you with the same thought.
“So what you say? You'll join me at the science club. There are more exciting experiments we can do together.” He smirks, takes the bouquet and places it carefully on the table without taking his eyes off you, and breaking the distance that the roses were causing between the two of you. “What do you think about being my assistant? Tempting? Or is that just my lips?” You were indied looking at them, the same way he was looking at yours.
“My Dear Trickster!” Rook appeared out of nowhere, as he does so often, and with his lab coat on. He held your hand with one of his, your waist with the other and lovingly pulled you closer to him. “Fate is so generous in making me meet you at this moment!” He kisses your cheek.
“I was just now heading to the classroom where the science club meets and thinking about all the possibilities of new experiments I could do when I saw one on my list that would be merveilleuse to do with you of all people! S'il te plaît, come with me mon amour. I'll show you how much my heart beats for you!”
Instead of taking you to the classroom, he first took you to Mr. S's Mystery Shop, as you needed to buy the main component for that experiment.
“Welcome, little imps! Looking for a last-minute forgotten item perhaps?” Sam assumed from Rook's lab coat. And maybe he also knew about the science club meeting.
“A specific ingredient for a last-minute decided to be done experiment, would be more accurate.” Rook smiled. “As far as I know, such things are not an enemy to your stock, correct?”
“On the contrary! Name it and I'll tell you where and how much it is.” Sam winked.
“Liquid Mercury.” Rook responds naturally.
“Mercury?!” Sam was surprised but not shocked. “You know it's toxic right? And relatively expensive.”
“I am very aware of that, oui.” He was still smiling, but with that sly half-closed look of his. “It's for the science club. I had already informed Professor Crewel and he authorized me to purchase it.”
“He did... without a paper...” Sam whispered to himself, before talking to Rook again. “You are of age then?”
“Oui je suis.” He handed Sam his ID. “You would have enough for a simple experiment, non?”
“How many grams do you need?” Sam asked, handing back the ID and smiling like the helpful salesman he is.
On the way back to the classroom, you expressed your concerns and apprehension regarding Rook's experiment. You weren't a member of the science club, how could you help? And about the toxic mercury?
“Worry not, Trickster.” He smiled confidently. “The amount of mercury we will be using is safe, especially while wearing coats, gloves and glasses. The only ingredient I will ever intoxicate you with is love, mon cher.” He puts his hand on your waist and gently pulls you to kiss your cheek. “And as for why I want you to be with me when I do the experiment... he he... you'll find out when you see it.”
“Bon après-midi!” He greets, as soon as he enter the classroom. He didn't explain why you were with him, but no one asked either. The other club members asked each other, but it seemed like no one had much courage to ask Rook directly. Except one person.
“Hi Rook, (Y/N).” Trey greeted you. “You had never come to a club meeting before. Are you thinking about joining or did you just come to assist Rook?”
You say you came because Rook asked you, but now that he was talking about it, you could also see what the club was like and think about whether you would like to join.
“You will always be welcome!” Rook says. “Oh, but Chevalier des Roses you are very cruel to me.”
“Why? What did I say?”
“Now you've put the merveilleuse image of (Y/N) and I here, doing experiments together. How heartbreaking it will be now to have that fantasy destroyed. You truly underestimate the thorns in your words.”
Trey smiled like he was thinking that Rook was just being dramatic again. “Well, I apologize, but aren't you putting (Y/N) in a position where it will now be difficult to refuse the invitation?”
“Non. There is nothing more charming than the free will of one's heart. I will be happy with whatever my dear Trickster decides.” his usual smile became sly. “Are you perhaps trying to pass the blame for your words onto someone else?”
“Of course not. Don't distort my intentions.” Trey adjusts his glasses, still smiling politely. “I'll leave you to your experiment. I also have something I want to test.” He walked away.
He puts what you bought on a table and goes to get the rest of the materials that were already in the room. A petri dish, pipettes, a new nail and a small bottle with a transparent liquid.
When he went to get the second bottle, the glass was dark, so he had to read the label. He picked up one that made several heads turn and a collective sigh of concern was heard. “Potassium chlorate...” He read to himself, but with the silence in the classroom, the others could also hear him. “Ups... not chlorate, dichromate.” He put the bottle back in the cabinet and took out another like it with the label: Potassium dichromate. A sigh of relief was heard in the room and the students returned to focusing on their projects.
Rook returned to the table laughing. You ask him why the other members reacted that way to the first bottle.
“Potassium Chlorate.” he explains. “Is a strong oxidizing agent that has a wide variety of uses. It is or has been a component of explosives, fireworks, safety matches, and disinfectants. I think they were afraid I was going to make explosives.” he leans in and whispers in your ear. “Don't tell them that it is a possibility for another day.”
You begin the experiment. He place a drop of mercury in the petri dish. Then he pour transparent liquid over the drop to cover it. He explains to you that it is sulfuric acid. He then add a small amount of what is on the second bottle. They look like little red crystals, almost as small as dust. That was potassium dichromate. He waits some time before giving you the new nail.
He stands behind you and holds your hand that is holding the nail with his. “Now let's see if it works. Shall we?” He practically whispered that in your ear. He makes you slowly bring the tip of the nail closer to the drop of mercury. And before you touch it, the drop starts to move and... beat like a heart. The mercury drop will beat for about 20 seconds before stopping.
“Mercury Beating Heart.” He explains sweetly. “Is a popular chemistry demonstration based on an an electrochemical redox reaction that causes a blob of mercury to oscillate, resembling a beating heart. Simple, dangerous, and beautiful.”
He frees your hand and lets you continue the experiment on your own if you want. The tip of the nail never touches the mercury and the heart will always beat for a few seconds before you try again.
“The club wants to hold a small fair to demonstrate some experiments. I thought this would be a simple but interesting demo to show potential new members. So, you tell me, what do you think?”
You can tell him it's an excellent idea, but if you're concentrating on the mercury heart, making it beat gently, he won't need any verbal response.
He laughs. “Beauté! I could watch your fascinated look all day. However...” He brings his face closer to yours. You move the nail away from the mercury, and he places a finger under your chin, moving your head slightly. Your lips very close. “I would hunt to have that look on me instead.”

I took notes while playing and I've tried to edit them into something that makes a shred of sense.
Things I like in Veilguard:
Banter can be interrupted, and they'll continue talking. If you repeatedly interrupt, they'll start over from the beginning later on.
The banter also actually made me laugh, especially with certain companion combos. Not always but more often than not.
The companions aren't stuck in their room. You know when someone wants to talk to you or has a cutscene, but you'll also see them hanging out with other companions or just checking out places around the Lighthouse. Makes them feel like actual people with their own stuff going on outside of Rook. But I do wish you could talk to them more. I like bothering my companions. I'm fine with them repeating themselves. Just let me smooch my love interest or chat with my friends and get random flavour text. Is that so much to ask?
I like the orb and smashing enemies in the face with it. I actually prefer it most of the time to using the staff.
Can wear casual clothes instead of armour with no repercussions. Finally, some cute outfits. But not cute enough. Need more. I also miss dying outfits in different colours and dressing up my team.
It's not my fav but it's fine:
I miss being able to smooch my love interest whenever I wanted to. Let me bother everyone more. The romances are fine but I expected more in comparison to previous games.
Everyone hangs out with each other or all together (eat together, bookclub etc) but is Rook even involved? The camping trip scene was so weird. Ferelden is overrun. Where are you going? Why would these two even want to? I could maybe believe Taash being interested because they're adventurous and might be hoping to see a dragon, but even then it's so weird.
Semi related to Taash's personal storyline, I did not appreciate having words put in my Rook's mouth re: her feelings about her gender and I have seen others saying that when they play as an enby Rook it's very "third gender" rather than having any sort of nuance. This is why I'm always hesitant when companies are so proud of being inclusive, it's often so clumsy.
References:
Mage/Templar war was in the South but no one mentions really mentions much about the South. Varric?? Morrigan?? Inquisitor?? There are some letters and a few lines about what's happening but not much. Who got to be Divine, again more of a Southern issue but you think it would come up when talking to Harding or Varric. Drinking from the Well of Sorrrows. Morrigan's son. King Alistair or Grey Warden. Hawke in the Fade. Varric, my man, are we not friends? Harding, you were there even if you were just a scout! Surely you got the hot goss hanging around outside the tavern at all hours.
Surely even people in Tevinter would be talking about how the Inquisitor's old spymaster became the Divine?? Harding sort of mentions it but no one else. The Inquisitor coming along to be like "oh it's a shitshow in the South right now that's why I'm not helping you or trying to find Solas" is so stupid.
The references you do get are fine but some feel strange because they're specific enough for a fan to get them but vague enough to feel pointless because they abandoned the Keep and tracking everyone's choices. I know it's complicated because we've all played the games in a variety of ways but they started it!
I wish we had seen more of the countries. I liked the places we saw and I really enjoyed exploring them, I would have liked to see more though which is a good thing in a way? I wasn't bored by the places we got, more than they were intriguing and I wished to go further. I would have liked to see more of Minrathos outside of Dock Town, for example.
Cameos:
Re: cameos. Dorian's model looks like he got bad cosmetic surgery and veneers. What did they do to you?? However, I also hate how Alistairs looks in Inquisition so maybe I just don't like when they try to update old characters? Morrigan looks fine, but her outfit is ugly. Isabela is fine. Varric and Harding look good.
Are we unable to have cameos of characters (or references), such as Merrill, because the team are blood magic flip-floppers? She knew so much about Eluvians, blood magic, Dalish nonsense etc. She would have been a fantastic edition to the team in Inquistion and in Veilguard but apparently I can't have anything nice.
Romances:
The romances are good but once I picked my person it was weird seeing how Lucanis switched to Neve almost instantly AND how their chemistry was so much better just through banter and listening to their chats. Almost like that's what the writers intended originally and then made Rook an option later? Davrin has a sweet romance and I have heard good things about Emmerich.
Companions:
Still think I should be able to have three people tag along. Yes, it makes them just talk to each other for banter but I liked having three people.
I wish they would bicker more. Some characters are supposed to not like each other (at least for a while) but they really could have leaned into that more. Be meaner. However, saying that some fans couldn't handle Vivienne...
My main issue with all the companions is that they're really good but don't get the chance to be great. I'm assuming because of development issues. Any decent writer would want to make the most of a character. You can see what they wanted to do and what they managed is good. I feel like the writers pulled their punches too much. They could have really leaned into some ideas and expanded on some aspects so much more but didn't. They all needed an extra ten minutes to fully bake.
Taash's personal stuff is fine. It's a little awkward in places but it's nowhere near as awful as people are making it out to be. It's no worse than anyone else's personal storyline or dialogue. A lot of the criticism is over-dramatic HOWEVER I do feel like their struggles were more with their upbringing as the daughter of a strict mother (who says herself that she was never supposed to have that sort of role within the Qun) in Rivain and those two identities cause conflict, and that was really overshadowed. A lot of Taash's struggles with gender make sense when you consider how gender roles function under the Qun (how their mother would have raised them) versus how they are in Rivaini society (what she was exposed to outside of the home). That's not to say they aren't nonbinary otherwise, just that the conflict could have been woven together better.
I also didn't really like the binary choices you were presented with - why do I, a stranger, get to tell any of these people what to do with their lives? I think Rook can have an opinion but there should be a third option for the character to make their own choice, perhaps based on their approval level with you or something to at least feign free will. This felt particularly insensitive when talking to Taash.
I also think some people are forgetting or deliberately ignoring that Taash is not the only lgbt or nonbinary character in the game or the series as a whole.
But, I do also think there are awkward moments (for all the characters too) where I understand what the team was going for but it doesn't quite land right. I would have actually liked a little more focus on what it's like being a qunari in Rivain etc.
Lucanis is supposed to be a big scary mage-killing demon-possessed assassin but once you recruit him he's practically shuffling about in his fuzzy slippers making coffee at 4am. I really like him but I can't help but wish they hadn't sanded down the edges. Having the Crows fight for the little guys is certainly a choice. I would have preferred them go down more of a "these Crows in this particular family think this way" so as not to undermine everything about Zevran.
Other thoughts:
It feels like the backgrounds don't really matter, they're not referenced much anyway. I was a veil jumper so you'd think Bellara would want to chat to me about that sort of thing more but no, not really. Same with race choices. It does come up but not as much as I had hoped. I also miss the tension between races, backgrounds etc. Why am I, a Dalish elf, wandering around Minrathos unchallenged?
Where's Meredith??? We had that final shot in the animated series but that's it???
What happened to Solas' agents and the uprising? I know years have passed but you'd think there's been more turmoil considering 1. the gods are real and 2. they suck
TL;DR
I had a great time playing, and it was really fun. I actually really enjoyed the finale and the game overall. But, I am concerned that this was essentially a soft reboot and so now what? What about everything we did before? What about all those other characters we cared about?
I also think I got lucky by choosing to have my Solavellan Inquisitor and romancing Davrin, just judging my chatter online.
I think if they didn't want those choices to matter then they should have had this game hav a protagonist who has no connection to Southern Thedas at all. No Varric or Harding. Have them being a literal nobody who doesn't know anything about what's going on outside of what they've directly experienced or it's very vague. They were affected by Solas' actions. They're an elf who was an agent until they realised what he was doing. Something. I just... if you don't want to make a game where choices matter then you shouldn't be working on Dragon Age. You should make something new. This was always Bioware's whole selling point and they've just tossed all that work to one side. Who made that decision?
Imagine if we'd been forced into being a specific character, similar to Hawke in DA2, and had to actually decide whether or not to support Solas as we learned about what he was actually intending to do? Imagine.
Origins still has the strongest writing. DA2 is still my favourite. But I do think Veilguard is a good sequel to Inquisiton. Unfortunately for Bioware, this is the fourth game in a series not the second. As a fourth game, there are some really weird choices. On it's own, it's a really good game. I'm still going to get my partner to play some of it to see what they think as an outsider who only knows about Dragon Age via my chit-chat and reblogging.

Trying to figure out what Vie does postgame. Might just scream instead.
(Veilguard Endgame spoilers)
I am. so fucking torn.
On one hand, it would be sooooo so so out of character for her to just. Turn her back on her twin soul, her daughter, her clan, all for the sake of a single man. I don't think she'd choose Solas over literally everyone else. That said, I don't think it would be that narratively difficult to come up with a reason why she had too, sans choice. I'm hesitant to take away her autonomy in that moment, I think it takes the impact of that choice away, but the things I could do with it??? I've been setting this up from the very beginning and I didn't even know it!!
Their daughter, a Dreamer, visiting them in her dreams, and walking the Fade beside her mamae and the mentor she never knew was her father. Raised in the waking by the other half of her mother's soul, who she already calls babae. The foreshadowing I put into my most recent fic, of how all Niri wants is for her mother to be done with her hunt, and for them to be a family. But they'll never be, because Viera is trapped. She had to, to save the world. She'll never hold her daughter in her arms again, not tangibly. That's the kind of story I love, the one so interwoven with tragedy. Thinking of how Niri and Ilo would react to that, it's everything I want.
...For them, but not for Vie. It would be out of character, or forced. That isn't how I want her story to end.
I think I lean towards having her let Solas walk away, because that's what she would do. She'd still get on her knees to look at him, but when she stands to kiss him they'd both know where she must go. She'd promise that she'd find him, that he wouldn't walk the dinan'shiral alone, but she wouldn't follow him. Especially considering I'm thinking of having Niri blighted, Iloniyn gravely injured (or even dead). She has attachments, and she needs to rebuild. For my Inquisitor, her and Solas always held each other in high respect. I think he'd understand what she maybe doesn't say: that she'll take care of things here, while he gets started there. They'll meet in the middle.
I'm tempted to have her cut by the dagger as Rook was in the beginning, but I'm not certain that won't, in that moment, tie Vie to the Fade and pull her in as well. So I'm thinking I won't. They pulled Rook out of that prison, now that Solas is able to look at his regrets and process them, what's stopping her from guiding him out with a little help? I don't think I want him to fully make it free--I like him still trapped in the Fade--but maybe she can coax him from his prison, walk with him in dreams. I think that fits them better than her following him, finding each other in their sleep and nowhere else. Maybe someday he'll be able to manifest in the Crossroads, but idk? I like there being consequences, and I don't want to unwrite them all. I want to work with them, to make a better story.
Idk idk idk, there is so much I can do with this and I don't know what direction I want to take!! Ah! There's merit in it all! I've been daydreaming about what their ending could be for so long, now that I know I don't know where to take it! I guess I've got all the time in the world to decide, but I want to know now. This is too hard T.T

DARP Advent 2024: Day Six HALFWAY THERE!
Let's talk about INFLUENCES and ADMIRATION!
Mun Portion!:
1. What inspired you to get into DARP? Former RP experiences? Just a love for the games?
I first got into RP in January 2013 with my Miranda Lawson blog and the Mass Effect rpc. I developed blogs for my Shepard among other characters, but it was shortly thereafter that the hype around DAI started; while I'd try to do DAO on console, I found it hard so I gave the copies to a friend and then bought them on PC later. But I played Inquisition at release in a speed run to kiss Cassandra, and made a blog for her ( @ stabbystabseeker for those who remember). I loved Cass a lot, enough that I didn't care that I had to play as a man to kiss her lol. Anyway, that's how I got into DARP - I also had blogs for my Hawke and Inquis when I eventually got through my canon playthrough of all the games from the beginning!
2. Name one (or a couple) of your fellow writers that you think are neat, and why! Can be famous, on Tumblr, in your real life, on AO3, whatever.
I would not be here half as much if it were not for @milfyclaus / (normally @ sanctamater). Claire has kept going with me to write this ship for almost 2 years now and has single-handedly made me want to keep writing Meredith unlike anyone or anything else; and to that, Claire, your writing always captures such a unique voice interlaced with exposition that I admire!
3. Has anyone in DARP (past or present!) really helped to define or reimagine a character for you? Or made you rethink perceptions that you held?
Honestly, Elisa with @extravagantliar has really fleshed out not just Varric but Kirkwall, and all the careful intricacies of worldbuilding that go with it. I would also say honestly, Erran @thesxmmersword who may not rp Ser Cauthrien anymore, but they really took an NPC in DAO and fleshed her out so well, and added much more depth to another morally questionable woman, and we started shipping these two from a what if meme and let it go from there.
4. What other fandoms/works/writers have influenced your writing style and the way that you view writing and creative expression?
Honestly, I think I still draw on a lot from Mass Effect and some of the themes around moral decisions, and the weight of those choices, as well as fighting in the name of something or someone that we see in DA as well. Truthfully, I have not been able to read a lot for fun because it's basically my job to read while doing my doctorate, but I do love a lot of fiction that can convey serious themes in the body of its work. I have a book that I got at a vendor sale that I'm excited to read, titled "This is How You Lose The Time War" by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.
5. Do you have any friends that have created a Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor/Rook that you've basically adopted?
I guess 'adopted' in the sense that we, as good friends, have made all our Rooks connected. I've talked about this on my multi but basically, my Rook's maternal uncle Jar has a husband named Alain, and together, they are the adoptive fathers of Chels' qunari Rook, Oskaar. Alain has an adoptive elf sister named Kahari and that's Ker's Rook. We are slowly fleshing out their family shenanigans.
6. What's a fandom work (writing, art, etc) that you think is super cool and you wish more people would see it? Share it with us!
Again, see the above point where I don't often have a lot of time to read for fun - this extends to fanfics as well. But honestly, I have a few ... m-rated fics featuring Meredith that have been a bit of inspiration to me in the past lol. (if you DM me, I will link them but this is a "we listen and we don't judge" situation).
Muse Portion!:
1. Who or what are some things/powers/people that your muse admires?
Meredith herself is always drawn to power; typically, this is in a political / leadership sense, as well as physical strength and abilities. Again, typically she will not care much for men in this role, but when it comes to women? She can admire a good swordswoman, or a woman in a political role with great influence. She will always admire someone who is career-driven, and seeking to better themselves, especially for fellow women.
2. Does your muse have a "hero" that they look up to from canon?
I think Meredith is very much a history nerd just as much as she is a religious zealot, but when it comes to historic figures vs. her personal beliefs, she will always hold Andraste as her most powerful "hero" to look to. She models herself after Andraste, after all, to look like her and to embody her sense of JUSTICE.
3. What legends, tales, or stories helped to form your muse's ideas of power and heroism?
Definitely the Chant of Light. Taken in as a ward of the Chantry as a child, she was educated through their teachings, and grew up entrenched in the Chant of Life. It is what dictates her life, and it guides her; those are the stories she turns to, to guide herself as Knight-Commander and beyond.
4. Conversely, what sort of legends, tales, or stories formed their idea of what a villain is?
To her, her own sister's story of being an untrained mage acts well enough to know that magic is the evil within, and that mages are inherently villains until they take responsibility for themselves and what the Maker has cursed them with.
5. Are there other muses in DARP that your muse admires? Or reviles/fears? (be careful with that second one and be RESPECTFUL.)
@milfyclaus Lady Amelia is her... (homoerotic) business partner (a forge supplying silverite weaponry to the Templar Order) turned wife girlfriend in their time in Kirkwall. @kirkwll Sioned has tested (and continues to test) Meredith's patience on the daily. and with our thread still in infancy, Meredith very much admires the man @tobebrutal 's Cullen is becoming. That's her son and Knight-Captain!
6. If your muse is someone who has companions or is one of the groups of companions from canon, how do they and their companions play off of each other? Are they friends? Enemies? Two dudes who'd cross the street to avoid each other? What are their most powerful connections within their "group"?
Unfortunately, Meredith as an Inquisitor is awful and most people rightfully don't like her. lol.

Thorned Love Chapter 4: Tale as old as Time
Vil grumbled as Leona took another chess piece from Vil's side. They were back in the library and Vil found an old chess set that Leona owned as a kid, so for old good time sake, Leona challenged Vil to a game. Leona, as he boasted previously, has been winning, which made Vil determined to win at least one game.
"I never thought that you would be this good at chess," Vil muttered.
"As I said, I played for so long, Princess, and all that chess means I've become an expert at this sport. Especially when you are often alone with maids and servants while your parents tend to fawn over Falena almost all day everyday."
"All day?" Vil asked, "How unforunate."
"I'm used to it now. Rook was typically my partner for these events and he, through all of his annoying snick, has been someone I can call a friend, maybe."
Vil laughs, "Rook and I have been friends since we met at the village at a younger age. I didn't know his parents worked at the palace, and he never spoke of it to me. I just thought they were so busy."
"Understandable, Rook's parents were the Royal Hunters of the palace. That's why Rook's here ever so often," Leona yawned.
"Getting sleepy, kitten? You might lose if you fall asleep," Vil teased.
"Never."
Leona looks at Vil, "What about you and your brother? You two seem close, but that's what I heard from Rook."
"Yeah, very…" Vil sighs, "I just miss him that's all. I know Epel is very strong and he can take care of himself, but as an older brother, I can't help but worry about him and my father. I have never been away from them for so long and then there's Alderic,"
"Who…"
"Some stupid prick who believes that just because he's attractive, he deserves so much, like marry me."
"Marry? Is he that bad of a prick?"
"Yes! He went up to my door and proclaimed that since I was beautiful, or more specifically the only beautiful person in my entire village, I am the only person he would marry. It's stupid and absurd and he's so self-centered that he thinks that I would fawn over him," Vil ranted, "not after what he said to my brother, I will never touch that man, and his disgusting face."
Leona's ears twitched as Vil ranted, his eyes slightly looking up at him. Vil noticed how Leona's tail was swaying back and forth as he huffed softly, but he chose not to acknowledge it.
"If it were me, I would've sent him to the dungeon."
"That would be heavenly," Vil grins, "seeing him trapped and sob that he doesn't deserve this," Vil mocked with a laugh.
"I can see that now. But now I'm curious, what did that bastard say to your brother."
Vil stayed silent before taking the king and the queen in his hands, staring at them. He puts the queen down as he begins to speak.
"I never told anyone else this after what happened. My father told me this when I was about 8 years old, after that incident."
"And why tell me? Your captor?"
"Because, unlike the people of the village, you actually listen to what I said or just take your time out of your day to hang out with me. You've become someone I can trust, along with the others here. I don't feel like a freak here."
"Again, you are talking to a beast, so if anyone's a freak, it'd be me."
Vil lets out a chuckle before starting the story.
🥀
Vil's mother, Lorelei, was well known for her beauty. Oliver always said that Vil got his features from his mother when he turned 18, which was not surprising from the portraits he saw of her as a child.
Many fawned over Lorelei, mostly for her beauty. She adores the attention, though she was never vain about it. She was married to Oliver and had Vil. This was the time when Oliver's inventions became more well-known and was commissioned to make new inventions for the country of France, which meant Oliver was traveling more often. Vil was only 2 years old when Oliver began his traveling, so he didn't remember much and due to his young mind, he never figured out how miserable Lorelei became after Oliver's many departures.
Lorelei never showed it but it was clear to the town that she was miserable.
It did not help matters that many people would start to believe that those "commissions" were ways to get away from his family and to be with another woman, due to claims that Oliver is a crummy inventor and that no one would ever commission that cooky man.
One day, a traveling merchant came over and began selling local apples from Germany. Lorelei and the merchant talked often, mainly about his region and reminiscing about old German cultures. It has unfortunately become a small-time affair, only for a week before the merchant left to travel once more, not returning.
After Oliver's return, Lorelei has fallen pregnant. Due to Oliver's return, the town had assumed that it was a child of Oliver's. That was until the child, now named Epel was born. The town talked about the new child and reminded them of the merchant who traveled there. But no one has spoken up about it due to some believing it to be cruel rumors about Lorelei.
Lorelei tried to laugh them off. But deep down, she was becoming guilty and resentful towards her new son. With all the rumors surrounding them and with Oliver being the type that figured out lies and deceptions, she knew she would get caught and lose the happy life she worked so hard for.
After a few months of this, Oliver took note of the rumors and asked Lorelei about them, mostly to keep his headspace clear after months of inventing and falling unconscious. She denies these allegations, which helps Oliver, but afterward, he notices her dodgy attitude towards him and Epel.
But Oliver couldn't continue his investigation without the fear of her leaving their children, angry at his snooping.
One day, as if the gods planned it, a note was sent while Lorelei was out with both Vil and Epel. Oliver received the letter and read it, shocked at what he had read.
It was a note from an unknown merchant, who wrote that he misses Lorelei and her soft lips and how he daydreams of her whenever he is not occupied with his work. He planned to visit her again once he had to best travel requirements.
Oliver was of course upset and confronted his wife, ashamed of her actions and how could she do that not to Oliver, but to Vil and the new baby.
Lorelei tried to deny it, even though she was slowly becoming panicky. Then she accused Oliver of meeting with the other women while he was on his travels, which Oliver stammered about. They started to argue afterward, leaving Vil to hide with Epel in his room, trying to protect him, it was one of the memories Vil still has of the event.
Night fell and Lorelei was sleeping on the couch after the argument, but the cries of Epel were waking her up every single time. It was driving her insane, but she tried to ignore it, hoping Oliver would've dealt with it, which he had done for the majority of the night, but he was so tired that he slept through the newest cry.
Lorelei was blank as she walked towards Epel's crib, her sleeping pillow gripped tightly in her hands as she raised the pillow up and towards Epel.
The saving grace was when Vil noticed and unknowingly stopped her. Which made Lorelei retreat for the night.
The next moment, Vil asked Oliver if it was normal for Lorelei to raise a pillow over Epel at night, which caught Oliver off guard, and he rushed into Epel's room to witness the same that Vil had described. Oliver took her away, demanding what she was doing. Lorelei's screams of how Epel ruined her happy life always repeated in Vil's head, and how she was trying to set things right, after Oliver's disgusting cheating, but everyone in the town knows it was her.
Lorelei's sobs and screams attract the attention of villagers and tell the works of a nearby asylum about a crazed woman who is about to murder her child. The asylum offered to take her away from Oliver. But Oliver refused until Lorelei spewed more hatred against him and Epel as if her words were now daggers as she stabbed Oliver's heart with her words.
The beautiful and thoughtful woman in town has become ugly and vile to everyone in the town.
🥀
"Since that night I never saw her again. I was allowed visitation but I humbly refused as the asylum scared even to this day. That's why, even now, I fear for Epel's safety. Who knows if that damned escape or not…I wish I knew."
Vil looked back and saw the most concerned look on Leona's face, which looking at it more, was more mortified than concerned. Leona's eyes were slit at the story and his tail was frozen solid.
"…what?"
The Lion was too baffled to speak, as his hand holding the chess piece did not move an inch. Leona has become a statue of bafflement, which Vil was debating on soothing or laughing at him. But Vil carefully took the chess piece and with a smirk on his face, said:
"Checkmate."
🥀
Epel was trying to keep a smile as days went by and has continued to tend to his father as he always did. But with new sets of bouquets by Epel's doorway with stupid and disgusting poems attached to them made him sick to his stomach. It was hard to keep it from strangers, his father, and even Jack, someone Epel actually trusts with his life if needed, which made Epel feel guilty.
It made Epel bake for the majority of his morning, trying to see if he could avoid Alderic or even Cederic walking up to his cottage. It was making him so anxious that he wasn't paying attention to the pie that was still in his hands.
"Careful," Jack spoke up, taking the pie from Epel, "if you stand there long enough, you might as well hallucinate."
Epel quickly looks back and gulps, "S-sorry, I just…having some thoughts."
"About?"
"It's nothing," Epel answered, "I should rest up more."
"Epel," Jack took his hand, "I know something is wrong. What happened last week? Is it because of Vil being gone or because of Alderic? With you being distracted and jumpy, I would assume it's Alderic. What did he do?"
Epel gulped and looked up at Jack.
"I don't need to explain myself," Epel huffed, "It's not any of your business. And I do not need help…"
"Epel, I get it. You don't want to seem weak but you need to tell me what happened. Alderic may be a force to be reckon with but you can't deal with him alone." Jack reassured, "You have me remember?"
"I know I do! But with that asshole thinking that he can control me and that if I marry him, Father won't be stuck in a stupid asylum! And I can't object because I know it's something that Vil would do but I'm scared."
"Marry…Alderic?" Jack repeated.
"He threatened me! And I would rather marry someone else than that stupid, narcissistic ass!" Epel ranted, "If I was given a choice, I would-"
"Epel!"
Epel looks at Jack and huffs.
"Let me recall what you just said to me," Jack started, "Alderic is forcing you to marry him so he wouldn't take Oliver to an asylum. Am I correct in that assumption?"
"Yes, that's true," Epel admitted, "and because Vil isn't around for Alderic to bother. And I hate that I know if this doesn't happen, not only I lose Vil, but Father as well. I hate being weak!"
Jack took Epel in a hug, trying to calm Epel down.
"You aren't weak, Epel," Jack acknowledged, "you are the strongest person I know. I wish he would just leave you alone, you and Vil."
"Thanks, Jack," Epel sighs.
Epel moves away from Jack, face blushing. He quickly took the pie and started to wrap and store it for later, trying to look out for Alderic once again. Jack sighs, as even he wouldn't calm Epel's nerves.
"Who would you marry if it wasn't Alderic?" Jack joked.
"That's private information," Epel smiles.
"I should've know," Jack laughs, "but I know it isn't Alderic."
"We both damn know I would never marry Alderic or even Cedric," Epel gagged, "Ew. I would..marry someone who has always been there for me. Though the thought of marriage is gross enough with the expectations. I wouldn't even imagining marrying someone."
"Then, what if I said that I want to marry you?"
Epel looked over at Jack and felt his face heat up. It didn't help the situation that he was pinned to his counter, and Jack looked so flustered with his question.
"Well, if you said that…would you be surprised if I would say yes?" Epel gulped.
Jack's ears perked and his tail wagged slightly as he carefully put his hand on Epel's cheek.
"What…would happen if I kissed you?"
"I would just say do it."
Jack hesitated, still nervous. Epel huffed and pulled Jack by his collar and kissed him, surprising Jack. But it felt like Epel was finally able to get his mind at ease, especially with Jack's arms around him, promising protection which was something Epel longed for. He didn't even acknowledge the noise outside of the cottage, just focusing on Jack.
"I…wow," Jack chuckles as he pulls away.
"You hesitated," Epel teased.
"Sorry about that.."
🥀
"We still need them together," Rook moped towards Trey, "They have tried everything and they've seen them getting along, but we need something more. More, like getting them in a secluded location with a romantic flare!"
"Romantic flare? Perhaps you have ideas?" Trey asked, "Rook, you have to remember, I am not the romantic type."
"You are married, Chaviler of Roses," Rook grins, "with a beautiful boy, no less."
"I did small stuff, sure, but Jade ultimately made the move. I have no idea what I did to create romantic feelings but it must be something, like a mutual connection, it just happens, Rook." Trey explained. "They have a mutual connection, Rook, the most likely step is to set up a date. A place where all the romantic stuff can happen slowly but surely. Something that maybe should be approved by Leona firsthand."
"Ah, of course. Roi de Lion can be such a hackle when it comes to family events. Balls…wait! A personal ball. No one else but him and Roi de Poison." Rook grins, "that's perfect! Let me go to Roi de Lion!"
"Rook! And he's gone. I swear once romance enters his head, he does not let go of it."
"What did you expect?" Floyd spoke up, startling Trey, "Seagull loves romantic endeavors. I mean, he did set you and Jade together after all, so I believe he can get that date going."
"I know," Trey sighs.
Floyd smirks and takes a pastry from Trey's plate and takes a bite, eating with victory.
"No, you will not give some to Johnnie, we both know that'll spoil his dinner, and I don't want that for my son." Trey spoke without speaking up from chopping the vegetables.
"You are no fun."
🥀
"A ball?" Leona spoke up, "That's too sudden and big. No way."
"Roi de Leon, I understand, but I know Roi de Poison and I know he'll enjoy such a romantic gesture and he often reads of those in books and I think we all know this will be perfect for him. He adored those as a child, and I remember speaking of those times quite fondly when he grabbed a book from the library."
"Look, I just don't want to seem forward," Leona stated, "If he found out why I am seeking his love, I don't think I would've forgiven myself, he'll think I'm using him to save myself, but…"
"I'm surprised," Falena spoke up, "but I see this as a big chance for you, Leona. These past few weeks, you and Vil have gotten along splendidly, and this can be the greatest gesture of love you can ever give someone."
Leona thought for a moment and sat down on the bed. Imagining a grand ball was already making Leona feel nervous, but considering it was only him and Vil..it made him even more nervous. He didn't even consider doing balls mainly because what was the point? Now, he has a point, but how will he go with it?
"I need time." Leona spoke up, "If I were to plan, what should I start? How should I start?"
"Oh, I have a few things up my sleeves," Rook chuckled.
"Oh boy."
🥀
Vil came back from his bath to see an envelope in his drawer by his bed. It was placed neatly and sealed with the royal seal of the land.
Strange, but it could be a way for Leona to communicate if Vil was busy with something, something that they had discussed previously. Vil took the envelope, carefully opened it, took the letter out of it, and began to read it.
Dear Vil,
I hereby declare that I will be hosting a small event and I request your presence. Be dressed in formal clothing as this is a formal occasion and be there at 7:15.
Vil smiles and puts the letter down. Never thought he'd be invited to a fancy ball, though it was odd and he was living within the castle that gave him the invite, but he thought it was sweet nonetheless.
🥀
Vil stood in front of the full-length mirror, adjusting his gloves and necklace. It was the night of the royal ball, and Vil was excited but nervous at the same time. He had never been to a ball before, and he wanted to make a good impression.
He wore a purple dress with golden accents with a white gloves, paired with a small golden bow at the back of his hair and golden shoes. His hair was braided, and he had a hint of perfume on his neck. He, of course, added makeup to his look, he felt empty without it.
He also had a set of golden jewelry, courtesy of Jade. Matching necklace and earrings helped finalize his appearance.
Vil took a deep breath and looked at himself in the mirror once more. He knew that his brother, Epel, would have teased him for spending so much time getting ready, but Vil wanted to look his best.
As he made his way to the ballroom, Vil couldn't help but feel a bit self-conscious. He felt like he didn't belong. But he pushed those thoughts aside and reminded himself that he was there to have fun and enjoy the night.
As soon as Vil entered the ballroom, he was greeted by the sound of music. The room was decorated with beautiful flowers, and there was a grand staircase leading down to the ballroom dance floor.
Vil took a deep breath and made his way to the dance floor. He looked around, trying to find someone to dance with. His eyes met with Leona's, who was standing by the refreshment table.
Seeing Leona nice and clean made Vil want to laugh, but he didn't. He was just staring, at how handsome Leona is, with the blue suit with golden accents. He saw not a beast, but an actual prince, a prince he wanted to dance with.
"Would you like to dance?" Vil asked, trying to hide his nerves.
Leona smiled and took Vil's hand, leading him to the dance floor. As they swayed to the music, Vil felt his nerves melt away. He looked around the ballroom, taking in the sights and sounds of the night.
The music made things even better for them.
"We need something," Rook realizes, "To set a better mood."
"Like what exactly?" Trey questioned, "They looked happy enough. What else do we need?"
"A song," Rook hummed, "something that they can dance to, and what can describe their beautiful relationship."
"But you know that I hate singing," Trey spoke up, "especially with the romantic energy that's here."
Jade and Floyd came out from the kitchen, holding a new plate of food for dinner. Trey and Rook looked at each other and back at Jade and knew who to ask.
"Monsior Mastermind," Rook called over, "we need you to do a small favor for us."
"What for?" Jade asked.
"We need you to sing for this lovely event," Rook announced with a smile.
"No."
"Come on, Jade! Sing something for us," Floyd urged, nudging him playfully.
"I don't know," Jade sighs, "I'm not comfortable singing in front of people," Jade pointed out.
"Oh, come on, you have an amazing voice! I know you can do it," Trey grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement.
"And it'll be amazing for this beautiful for tonight," Rook added, "and your voice will do perfectly."
After a few moments of hesitation, Jade finally gave in and decided to sing a song.
🥀
Tale as old as time
True as it can be
Barely even friends
Then somebody bends
Unexpectedly
Just a little change
Small to say the least
Both a little scared
Neither one prepared
Beauty and the Beast
🥀
"You are such a good dancer," Vil laughs, "have you ever dance before?"
"Not as often as I like," Leona whispered, "but I never danced with the intent of actually dance with a person. I mean the last time I danced was when I was young. How about you?"
Vil looks up and holds his hands. "Well, I never danced before."
"That explains your nervous movement," Leona joked.
"Hey," Vil pouted, "no one has ever asked me to dance with them, nor invited me to a royal ball. Remember, I was the black sheep of my town, despite being fawned over by that same exact town. I refused to wed to Alderic, which everyone wanted, and now I'm here. Dancing with you, even thiugh I never danced in my life."
"That's a dream come."
Vil felt his face blush as he thought about it.
"Yeah," Vil grinned, "It's most definitely a dream come true,"
The duo gazed at each other as they swayed on the dance floor, and the music boomed around them, making them feel alone in the ballroom.
🥀
Ever just the same
Ever a surprise
Ever as before
And ever just as sure
As the sun will rise
Tale as old as time
Tune as old as song
Bittersweet and strange
Finding you can change
Learning you were wrong
Certain as the sun
Rising in the east
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
Tale as old as time
Song as old as rhyme
Beauty and the Beast
🥀
They continued dancing, lost in their thoughts and feelings. Leona felt like he was on top of the world, dancing with the person he loved.
As the song ended, they pulled away from each other, smiling shyly. They both knew that their relationship was just beginning, but they were excited about what the future held.
They took a bow.
"I heard the stars are beautiful this time of year," Leona spoke, holding his arm out for Vil.
"You don't mind showing me, dear kitten?"
Vil takes Leona's arm and they walk into the balcony, watching the stars above them. They walked over and sat down by the stone bench, watching the stars.
"It's so beautiful out here," Vil gasps, "makes me think of home."
Leona looks back and looks back at the stars again. "I can understand why. Makes me think of my old home as well."
"Why did you leave?"
"I…I felt invisible in my own family," Leona explained, "Sure, I'd have my fair share of achievements but they were almost nothing compared to Falena's. I mean, he got married and has a kid now, while I got transformed into a beast. Seems more funny if it wasn't also unfair."
"Not really," Vil sighs, "but hanging out with you these past months made me see that you are just someone who just needs someone…to sympathize with, to talk to. Have similar hobbies and conversations."
"Would that also applied to you?"
"You won't tell on me, would you?"
Leona laughs and looks away for a moment before sighing.
"I got a gift for you," Leona spoke up, "something for you."
Leona coughed before handing Vil a beautiful silver mirror, embroidered with roses and thorns. The glass felt like it was made of pure crystal, especially as it was reflecting both him and Leona. He didn't want to touch it but it was so beautiful that he had to, even for a small while.
"It's beautiful," Vil muttered, "I mean, it's extremely beautiful. How.."
"I found it along with the rose. Like the rose, it has magical properties, one that I only dabbled in. But it can show the person you wish to see, even from the confines of the castle."
"…uh," Vil stammered a little, before looking at the mirror and said, "Show me my father."
The mirror swirled in a green mist. The image of his father sleeping in a bed made Vil feel relief, seeing him safe in the cottage. However, he felt something was off, due to the noise of horses and people cheering in the mirror.
"…what is that?"
"A celebration of sorts?" Leona questioned, "though, it seems off."
"..Maybe it's Epel?"
As soon as Epel was mentioned, the mirror began to swirl and show a new sight. The sight of Epel in front of his house, with Alderic of all people, surprisingly all dressed up, with flowers and lights making up a scenery.
"What's…" Vil was speechless, worried for his younger brother.
"….I'm only doing this for my father," he heard Epel speak, "if you weren't threatening his life, I wouldn't even be here."
"Aw, don't be like that," Alderic grinned, "you are marrying me, after all, a natural treasure."
"Marry!?" Vil almost screamed.
"What did he do?" Leona asked, also annoyed.
"Something about my father…I knew Alderic would stoop this low! Forcing marriage…" Vil got up and looked at Leona, "I have to go. I have to save my brother, and I know this breaks our agreement but Epel's…"
"Then go," Leona spoke up, "You have a family to save, and it's better to be over there than to be trapped in this.."
"Don't." Vil hissed, "I am not leaving for long." Vil takes Leona's hand and looks up at him, " I promise that I will be back, with Father and Epel too. You have become someone I can consider a friend and maybe…" Vil gulped, "I'll be back, ok?"
Leona smiles and nods his head at Vil.
"Go, don't let me stop you."
Vil begins to walk away but he looks back with a look that says "I promise," before bolting out of the balcony and onto the staples and taking Appletart. He jumped onto her and looked back at the castle, within the silence, he could hear Leona once again.
🥀
No spell has been broken
No words have been spoken
No point anymore if he can't love me
No hope she would do so
No dream to pursue, so
I looked at myself, despise all the things I see
For I know that she
Cannot set me free
Let the world be done with me
🥀
Vil was saddened at Leona's hope fading as he began to ride away. He knew he had to go but he knew why he wanted to stay. His heart was telling him to, telling him to scream his love to Leona before he left, but his throat squeezed when he thought of trying.
But knowing his time at the castle made him happy.
🥀
There's been a change in me
A kind of moving on
Though what I used to be
I still depend upon
For now, I realize
That good can come from bad
That may not make me wise
But oh it makes me glad
And I, I never thought I'd leave behind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
For now, I love the world I see
No change of heart
A change in me
🥀
He thought of the days he and Leona either played chess, played in the snow for the kids or just comfortably read by the fireplace for hours on end or until they passed and cuddled against each other afterward.
He thought he couldn't love someone like Leona, but with just time, he didn't see a beast, no. A prince who needed compassion and love in his life.
Vil knew that now.
🥀
For in my dark despair
I slowly understood
My perfect world out there
Had disappeared for good
But in it's place I feel
A truer life begin
And it's so good and real
It must come from within
🥀
Vil knew he had a reason to come back, even just for a small moment, a moment he never wanted to end, a moment that made him feel what love was. Not just the meaning from the books he reads, but from the love he felt by just being with Leona, and the many things that they had done for the past months.
🥀
And I, I never thought I'd leave bеhind
My childhood dreams
But I don't mind
I'm where and who I want to be
No change of heart
A change in me
No change of heart
A change in me
🥀
Vil loves Leona, and he knows that Leona loves him back.
In that moment as he saw an opening to his town, Vil knew. Vil knew why he wanted to come back.

Hey follow-up,
Please disregard that last ask I forgot to put it under anonymous.
If it’s not too much trouble and if you feel alright answering would you mind answering it from here
Sincerely, the person who sent the ask like 1min ago.
Don’t worry this is in no way a request, I wanted to know your take on this thought I was rereading your good ending And I was wondering how do you think. The third, the first years, and the staff would react to finding out Yuu was planning to secretly leave before they were sold off, like during the announcement? I was thinking about it, like I would just bounce. Instead of being, essentially, someone’s property. Yk? Also I apologize i am aware that this is a heavy topic. If you don’t feel comfortable answering this pls let me know.
this got buried in my inbox sorry, but I can definitely talk about my thoughts on this, warning for bad english probably
the story I wrote is inherently kind of... dark, and that was intentional. I don't think I did a very good job at expressing that, which I why I haven't touched that storyline in a long time. but it was always meant to go hand-in-hand with what already happens in canon, that yuu just becomes crowley's pawn, and the boys are so egotistical and so competitive with each other that yuu's feelings and wellbeing are ignored as a result. we love these characters but, really, with the exception of very few, they couldn't care less about yuu as a person (perhaps this is a little nihilistic of me to say, but that's the impression I got).
I do really like reading concepts about yuu running away from nrc, multiple different authors I admire have written about it, simply because we all know that yuu is very unsafe and likely unhappy there, in canon. it's not an unlikely thought.
though, again, because most of these boys just... don't ask, or don't understand, or just don't even think about yuu's emotional state, I feel like yuu running away in ANY story would take them by complete surprise. again, I love these guys, but they're still... villains. they're all so wrapped up in their own lives, their own problems, their own egos, that they just... don't even think about others. or very few of them do, anyway.
I think characters like vil and rook would be able to catch the signs. vil, if anyone, would intervene somehow, but I don't think rook would. ace and deuce miiight be able to tell that something was off, depending on how yuu would go about it (i.e. looking for new places to live, planning a date to escape etc) but both of them could be easily convinced that they're fine.
again, this is the prefect we're talking about; yuu has been put in a position of responsibility against their will, and they're seen as capable and mature as a result. the idea that they could be suffering from a mental breakdown, or planning to run away, is laughable to those who know them.
in the story I wrote, the same logic applies. yuu's feelings are never taken into consideration, and the boys just assume yuu is fine with it because they seem so responsible. their autonomy is never questioned, just like in canon. a lot of other writers have done very similar stories because, well, the concept is already canonical. likewise I tried to express that the boys don't even realize how serious the situation is, again because they're oblivious to everyone but themselves, and in all endings it's just like yuu moves to a new dorm. there's also the good ending. and some more. though again I think I did a bad job at expressing that. I think my english skills had something to do with it, and maybe I shouldn't have written the happy endings that people requested, I feel I started losing the original point by then. (I've thought about this a lot already).
but yuu running away makes sense. it makes sense even in canon.
there are very few things that I think that are holding yuu back from running away
at the beginning of the series, yuu literally knows no one in this world, and no place to go. they don't even know what exists outside nrc
yuu has no money
again, crowley controls yuu (and frequently blackmails and guilt trips them about it???)
yuu and grim are bonded and yuu couldn't leave without him
but there are ways. I'm honestly surprised that yuu running away to nbc isn't more common in fics because it makes complete sense to me. like, if I was in that position, post-glomas, I wouldn't want to leave noble bell in the first place.
cause I know that rollo would help yuu, support them, kill crowley threaten crowley right back if he tried anything, and grim could continue studying to be a mage at noble bell.
this concept has been living in my brain since november but that's something for another day.
as for who would be affected?
in an alternate universe, yuu running away is what causes malleus' overblot. this... kind of goes hand-in-hand with my nbc au, but it works either way.
ace and deuce and epel would be heartbroken. I can see all three of them beating themselves up about not having seen the signs before. I imagine vil pulls them through the worst of it, even though he feels a similar sense of guilt for not having been able to help.
a lot of characters I feel would just... not care. or be mildly concerned and that's it. I'm talking about canon yuu here, and from what I could pick up... yeah. a lot of the boys would either say they saw it coming, express some disappointment, or just... couldn't be bothered.
RIDDLE. I think riddle would be really upset.
I think the staff, especially trein, would have seen it coming. they wouldn't be surprised, knowing how yuu is treated. their main concern would be yuu's safety.
then there's rook who like. okay. hear me out on this. so rook can find yuu with his unique magic. and I think he would track them down, out of curiosity. but he wouldn't interfere with their life unless they were in serious danger. like, in my nbc au, I don't think rook would even tell anyone that yuu is there. he can tell they're happier, and being taken care of, so... why bother?
there are a lot of other thoughts I have on this but that about sums it up for now.
#*ੈ✩‧₊˚asks!#ANYWAY I have very mixed feelings on the fic cause I like the concept but I feel I didn't write it well and then my point got lost over tim#so this post is actually more about like the general concept of yuu running away which I HAVE thought about a lot

Ngl if Varric dies in DA:TV it's going to severely impact my enjoyment of the game. I'll still play it, of course. I'm not the type to completely write a game off because of a plot point i don't agree with, to make no mention of the money spent. I'm sure the game is fine as a whole and I want to see Solas's story--and by extension, the DA setting--come to a close. But God, to kill off Varric of all characters...more under the cut.
Like don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of angsty, high stakes, kill-your-darlings type of plots, but it MUST have some kind of point. Killing Varric right at the start doesn't really serve much of a purpose. Like we don't need any motive or other driving force when we've been given plenty enough already a la the events and ending of Inquisition. We're well aware of the stakes. Killing Varric away from the people who loved him best (Hawke and crew, or whoever's left) surrounded by strangers (with the exception of Harding and Solas) would be such a disservice to his character. Add in extra yuck with the way EA/Bioware treated his writer, Mary Kirby. It just feels like an extra 'fuck you.' Besides, using him as such a heavy marketing tool for years only to kill him off is so cheap.
Maybe the writers didn't know what to do with him. (And maybe this is a direct result of Mary Kirby's layoff) Maybe they were afraid of the criticism they'd get if they just wrote him into retirement. I get it. Varric is a notorious busybody who shoulders a lot of responsibility, and he's so tied up into the story at this point. He's had a hand in most major plot points in the series. Not everyone would be satisfied with the retirement card. But the guy is getting old. I'm hoping and praying that they'll just settle with destroying Bianca and maybe injuring him enough to where he's like 'I'm way out of my league here, plus I've got a city to run. Time to pass this along to someone more capable.' He'd make a good advisor/mentor figure--there in the background, but still involved with the plot just enough. I feel like the team was so worried about people being disappointed that they couldn't have him as a companion that they jumped to the extreme to give us a good reason why and a chance for D✨️R✨️A✨️M✨️A.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind so much if they chose to kill him at the end, or shit--literally any point besides the very beginning. It's the last game in the series. Much like in Mass Effect 3, the world as we know it is ending and the stakes are ever higher. Not everyone is gonna make it. I know nothing is confirmed, but the set up in the trailer is so obvious. As soon as Varric tells Rook to take care of things, i got a sick feeling. Maybe they'll surprise us, but I doubt it. It's hard not to be cynical after hearing about the layoffs at Bioware and watching in real-time the development hell this game has gone through for the last decade.
Like imagine in Mass Effect Andromeda, say someone like Garrus or Liara shows up only to die right at the beginning of the story. They had no effect on the plot, other than explaining to Ryder the plot of the last 3 games to let them know why what they're doing here in the newest game should be important to them. Then they die to kickstart the plot and for Ryder to shake their fist at the villains and exclaim 'this time it's personal!' Ryder doesn't know Garrus/Liara. They met like a week ago. Plotwise, the moment falls flat emotionally when we know that Ryder wouldn't mourn Garrus/Liara as much as we know Shepard might. It should go without saying that a character dying would impact your main character more if those characters got to know each other throughout the story, but it's what I'm saying. I think it's better to shock your characters more than your audience.
And that's what this is. Shock value for the audience, to make us clutch our pearls and shake our fists at whoever is responsible for a beloved character's untimely demise. To make us care about a plot we're already invested in, and have been for 10 YEARS. Or maybe to get away from the uncomftability of having a character with an arc they don't know how to end gracefully. If they go the way I think they're going, anyway. Fingers crossed so so so hard that they surprise me.
#long post#rant#dragon age the veilguard#dragon age#varric#varric tethras#i feel strongly about shit that doesn't matter lol#but this is giving me conniptions so i had to get it out#like i see writers fall into this angsty trap all the time#did no one think this might be a bad idea?

More short ones today!
Anonymous asked:
Hii, I discovered your art for the first time on twitter a few months ago and I'd like to know how the battle to keep the account is going. Also I can't find the sfw account?? Like, it just vanished, did something happen?
P.S. : love your art style, it looks delectable
Hi Anon! Thank you for your support ❤️
The battle is still ongoing, well, we're sending appeals pretty regularly, but unfortunately no luck yet. The most difficult part is to get these people to actually reply :( It’s going to be over in a week, though, I’m tired of waiting.
There is no sfw account, but I can understand the confusion with our accounts right now...
@aoinoryush is just my super old personal account that we didn't really want to use to post art (other than that one time when we posted a FloIdi comic), so I created a new one.
@ryuichirou52622 is the new art account for both sfw and nsfw pieces, at least for the time being.
If you can't access either of them for some reason, please let me know!
Anonymous asked:
Did not realize I needed FloVil till this moment
It's how things always are with these two. You don't think of them, and then you see them, and boom... wow I needed that...
(Thank you ❤️)
Anonymous asked:
You once again got me barking at your art. Vil is just so.... UUUUUUUUUUGH he's so beautiful
Hehe thank you so much, Anon!! Barking is a very good reaction, I love it >:3
I am very happy I could draw Vil beautiful enough for this reaction...
blackbutlerfandomnerddomain asked:
OOOOOOOOOOOOOH SHIT THE FLOVIL!
HEHEHEHE YESSSS
Anonymous asked:
Any context on the latest post?
There isn't any, to be honest; we were just in a FloVil mood, likely due to their interactions in the Playful Land event.
I guess Floyd was just feeling extra playful that day~
Anonymous asked:
U like ortho/Idia
Why not Jade/Floyd? Is it because ur highly against tops on tops?
We are not highly against it, Anon, but yes, we don't ship two characters that we consider tops together. It works both ways: their interactions don't feel shippy to us because they're tops; but at the same time they're tops because their interactions don't feel shippy to us. It's difficult to say which one is more true.
So yeah, we don't automatically ship every problematic ship just because it's problematic.
Funny enough, whenever I draw the Leech parents, they always look like just straight-up Floyd and Jade lol So maybe I am a hypocrite.
But then again, it's very difficult for us to picture Mama Leech and Papa Leech having sex... so maybe I am not a hypocrite....
Anonymous asked:
Your art made me look up the heights of Floyd and Vil, and it gave me a thought.
Cause Vil is taller than Floyd with heels, but shorter without. (183cm without, 196cm with, while Floyd is 191cm)
And I love myself a character that acts all tough until they get put in their place.
So Vil being taller than Floyd with his heels on, and he's acting all proper and like "you can't touch me" or something.
And then Floyd gets all smiley and immediately gets Vil off his high heels (bad joke), and now Vil's not so high-strung.
Plus, Floyd finally being able to look down at Vil instead of having to look up is probably something he would enjoy.
Idk. Just a thought :)
Anon! This is such a good point lol I've always wondered about Vil's height... Since he wears high heels pretty much all the time, he really should usually be about the Tweel's height or even taller... Much taller, if we consider Rook's info about his heels lengths as factual!
Floyd getting Vil off his high heels (great joke) is a very hot concept. Of course, heels or no heels, Vil won't lose his pride easily, but... what if this is only the beginning. 👀
In any case, Floyd would enjoy and probably tease him about it~

just yap to me abt him idc plz go ahead
bro how are you so FAST 😭
anyways!!!! i'm gonna try forming an actual Thought (admittedly, not something i'm very good at)
i've been thinking about Lysander's character development specifically and all of this is absolutely something i'm going to come back to/expand more on but!! i think that at the beginning, even without remembering his life in his og world, he still felt kind of,, an obligation to try and go back home? he didn't want to, he liked his life there way better, but he thought that well, he had to come from somewhere, there's probably people waiting for him to get back and it's basically his responsibility to go back to, even if every flash of memory he got was just, absolutely miserable
and this is a lot of what Lysander's character arc is about. he learns that it's okay to be selfish sometimes, that he's allowed to want things for himself without necessarily having to always put other people's feelings above his own
the moment near the end of book 4, where Ace and Deuce come back for him, is very much the moment he decides to stay; it's such a tangible proof that people actually care for him, he can't just give that up!!! (they're basically his brothers!! he can't leave his brothers!!!)
and that's such a turning point for him because once he allows himself to have that, it's easier for him to admit that he wants other things, too. not to mention that he doesn't feel as anxious about building relationships with people anymore, since now he's sure that he won't have to just,, abandon them one day
(he and Rook had meet uhh, sometime around book 2?? and while Lysander has caught feelings pretty quickly, he was hesitant to actually admit to them, partially because what's the point of getting his hopes up if he's just going to leave one day. but after deciding to stay, he just kind of, allows the feelings to settle in and it's part of why he finally gets the courage to confess after book 5 <3)
and i kinda can't stop thinking about how with all the jokes about Yuu being the NRC therapist, Lysander kind of goes thru the... reverse of that, in a way lmao he starts trying to take responsibility for everyone and everything, for a lot of reasons, but also mostly because he was a kid forced to grow up too fast and be responsible for things a little kid absolutely shouldn't be. and also because while it may not seem like that much of an age difference, being 19 surrounded by all those 16 and 17yos, he often feels like he should be the one keeping an eye on everyone else, since he's older. but as the plot goes on, he learns that he can't help everyone and that in some cases, it's really not his place to get involved - some problems are way beyond what he can help with and that's okay, it is actually not his job to try and save the world!! he can be just a teenager who is nice to his friends but doesn't have to solve all of their inner problems because he was never responsible for them in the first place!!! i feel like that's also something that would come up ESPECIALLY during book 4 since he was close friends with Kalim beforehand and everything that happened there was just,,, SO beyond his capabilities for help lmao
he still keeps his intrinsic kindness, he just learns how to say "no" and be his own person <3

Thess vs Arlathan
So turns out I can actually play this thing - on the easiest settings, mind you, but I can do it. Haven't entirely figured out parry (that "too much visual noise" thing), but I get it sometimes. Doesn't help that the timing of the indicators is a bit ... wonky.
I'm beginning to see why people are a little iffy about the writing. I don't think it's bad, mind you. It's just that it's ... all got a bit of Purple Hawke to it, if you see what I mean? It feels like Rook was built around the "scoundrel with a heart of gold" trope, and all the lines the players choose really do is slightly change the degrees of 'scoundrel' and 'heart of gold'. Which ... I mean, I don't mind that much. I get that thing with Aloy, after all. I just ... understand why people might complain about it a little in a Dragon Age game, just because the series has up until recently been known for letting you shape your character the way you want, and now the vague framework we got for "Warden" or "Hawke" or "Inquisitor" has been a lot more carefully structured for a "Rook". I mean, hell, Varric gave Rook a nickname. Up until now, he's only done that with characters we don't control. The closest he comes is Mark of the Assassin, where he workshops one based on the personality you've crafted for your character over the course of however many games. So Rook has a nickname based on what Varric knows of them, which means that kind of has to stick. Thus, more structured character that we can basically guide but not hugely control, at least not in terms of personality.
Like I say, I'm not necessarily complaining. I just know that it takes somewhat more headcanoning for those of us who prefer a bigger range of character traits for their DA characters. But I know you all over here are up to it. Hell, so am I, or I will be, when I get the structure and flow of the game a little more sorted in my head.
Currently I am playing a nonbinary elven Veil Jumper named Lira - specifically Lira in the cause of differentiating them from my various Jalliras, who are definitely ladies, because this one ... isn't. This is my practice character. That whole rant above? I guess I had it on my mind because the way Rook's character is set up for us means that I can't really play a Jallira. This is definitely a Molly game. Quite possibly a Jessie game. I have a few others, but I'd have to check through the imaginary Rolodex to find out which ones hit the snark the way Rook seems to.
That said, this particular set of liveblog posts are going to be actual liveblogging, not ... well, not what I normally do. But when I do get the hang of this a little more, and can assess the flow and figure out how best I can play a Rogue? Holy hell am I running a Molly through this game. It's basically made for a Molly. Though I am having a hard time deciding which faction she should join. Veil Jumpers (again) because Things To Tinker With? Lords of Fortune because Adventure? Shadow Dragons because freedom fighter? ...Well. I mean. A Molly is a tinkerer. A Mychae is a freedom fighter and adventure-seeker. So I guess Molly of WoD Mage would be a Veil Jumper (again) and Mychae of SW:TOR fame would go with the Lords of Fortune. I do have a second Mychae - the TSW one - and she'd be the Shadow Dragon. Jessie'd be a Warden, no question. Srina ... Antivan Crows. I have an old WoD mage who might do for Mourn Watch, actually. It's thoughts for later, anyway. But the playthrough of at least one of those will get the dialogue snippet treatment (probably two; you all love the Molly and the Jessie).
Much later, because I am running on far too little sleep. But at least, for all I've heard and read, and even with it being a bit of a struggle to play, I have been enjoying myself. Met Bellara (Molly is going to love Bellara), and have a crossing to look at and probably clear darkspawn or some shit out of. Also, no, I have no idea who this nonbinary character is going to romance. I'm not even sure they'll romance anybody. This is a practice character. This is basically as close to me as I'm going to get. But you never know. This Lira might speak up inside my head at some point, if only to differentiate themself from their parent and original.
...But I doubt it.

hello!! please tell me more about your detective for M who’s gonna freak out when they say ily because that reaction and the aftermath is going to be so so good 💆🏻♀️💆🏻♀️💆🏻♀️
hello to you too! hope you're doing well 💕 i'm really sorry it took me so long to reply, but i needed to sort through my very confusing thoughts to give them some sort of consistency, sjksjks. if you guys ever find yourselves curious about any of my ocs (which you can easily find here) please, do not hesitate to ask! i just love talking aimlessly about them and receiving these types of questions makes my heart all fuzzy and warm, so thank you for taking an interest in one of my wayhaven detectives!
okay, you didn't ask for my stupid rambles (and i swear one day i'll stop — *insert the 'today is not that day' meme*) so here are some facts:
RUE PARKER
‘the wayhaven chronicles’ canon
personality stats: sarcastic, easygoing & charming (also: not really a stickler for the rules and authority in general);
professional skills: deduction, science & combat — no matter what she's doing or how many times she's done it, the results will always be perfect and spot on;
rebecca → relationship status: not overly bad. honestly? could be better, but it could be much, much worse (personal note #1: rebecca is not my favourite character in the series and i'd probably be happier if she had died already — fingers crossed for book 5, sorry-not-sorry, becky — or, at least, if the narrative/characters would stop forcing the readers/mc to forgive her);
tina & verda → relationship status: best pals. her ride-or-die squad;
felix → relationship status: best friend. she found a mischievous kindred soul to relate with and if you ever encounter them together... run (there's this scene at the beginning of book 3, where adam/ava asks why the werewolves attacked them and rue answered with: "i may have made one teeny sarcastic comment", causing adam's/ava's soul to leave their body, lol);
bobby → relationship status: ex-boyfriend (personal note #2: i've always hated that the mc's gender/sexuality is what determines the ros' and bobby's gender) — she's not bothered by him at all, but since her responses are very sarcastic, well... rest in peace, robert marks;
mason → relationship status: a big, bright question mark;
personal canon
if i have to choose a few words to describe her, i'd say: naturally talented, wild card & big dick energy;
hyperactive little kid — couldn't stay still at all. always exploring the world around her, climbing up some tree/furniture or hiding somewhere in the house/backyard to play (the sitters tasked with keeping an eye on her went batshit crazy all. the. time);
as i said here, rue is extremely smart, often prone to boredom if something is not mentally challenging/stimulating enough (which can also be applied to her romantic relationships);
if you ever need someone to cut out some tension (or spike it up even more), she is the right gal for you. unfortunately, 99% of the time, the saying 'taking things seriously' is not part of her vocabulary (e.g. in book 3, when finding out about the trappers' bounty, she says: "how much am i worth?"). what can i say, she really likes to have a good time;
sarcasm is her default mode, plus she always downplays her feelings/emotions by either ignoring them or making badly-timed jokes;
rarely bothered by anything (e.g. in book 3, during the 'fight' with mason/morgan at the bakery, rue replies with: "me being naked is way more important to you") plus, not a jealous person ever (alima included, when she'll make her appearance);
was in an on-again/off-again relationship with bobby. after a while, though, she got exceedingly bored by the monogamous lifestyle and decided to dump his ass;
never had serious relationships/fell in love before — this is partly because: a) she's a free-spirited person & b) she's scared shitless of commitment (mostly caused by rook's death and seeing what that did to rebecca). in a sense, she and mason are quite similar;
just thinking about the word 'love' has her panicking really bad (i.e. after the 'date' at the antique shop), so when mason will inevitably confess his feelings to her... the only way i can see this going is with rue assuming it's all some kind of prank but, once her huge brain will catch on the fact that mason is not exactly the joking type, she will get cold feet and blearily say: "uhh, thank you, i guess?". after realizing what she has said/done, she will skedaddle so fast that the only thing people are going to see is an indistinctive, blurry form (later, she will definitely wish for an asteroid to hit her);
likes to sing everywhere: in the shower, at her workplace, inside the car, you name it (and she's also very good at hitting those high notes too — while she was attending the police academy, 'the karaoke incident' happened and no one beside her and tina knows the truth about it. verda is still trying to unsuccessfully bribe them to know what took place);
excellent chef — loves to cook/bake when she has some free time (she just thinks the entire process is pretty neat, starting with a few ingredients to achieve a full-on meal);
#thank you again mal! ♥ (& i profusely apologize for this long-ass essay that came out of my brain 🙈)#interactive fiction#the wayhaven chronicles#gia’s musings 💬#oc: rue parker

I was watching some older episodes of alien force involving ship and omniverse made the whole situation just a lot more tragic. In alien force Ben was kinda told he hated ship and it seemed weird/uncharacteristic for Ben to say he didn't want anything to do with ship- a line we never hear him say that doesn't make sense in alien force context, but after omniverse?
I could totally see Ship tackling/grabing ben (in a friendly way) and triggered the losing feedback flashback and Ben yelling out anything to get ship off him and then retreating, he BACKS UP at the sight of malware years later so him being nervous around galvanic mechamorphs isn't a stretch. and it makes the whole situation with ship hurt a little more as it retroactively turns into Ben not admitting the real problem he has with ship becouse he's not ready to share that wound with Julie and it driving them apart .
And makes Rook's prying and Azmuths pressuring a lot more annoying. He didn't even tell his girlfriend why hes scared of her "dog", why would he bear his soul to someone who isnt owed the information? (Also kinda paints Gwen in a bad light for not realizing that might be part of Ben's problem with ship, though personally I think she was meddling in their relationship to much and too often to begin with becouse of her projecting what she wants with her and kevins relationship onto them without addressing her own struggles but thats completely off topic)
Honestly with the Malware plotline I think they could have at least had a moment of clarity, emotional vulnerability and them parting on decent terms instead of phone break up 2: electric boogaloo
(idk I thought of how cool a julie and ben ep where they broke up peacefully after the malware reveal and adding context to bens issues with ship would have been super cool and I got rambly. hope this is ok to send)
OMG YOU KNOW WHAT THAT'S TRUE
I've written about how Ship should have been received more as the connection between them since both the Omnitrix and Ship himself are Galvan technology, but YEAH one of, if not Ben's most traumatic experiences was brought upon by a Galvanic Mechamorph. That would have absolutely tied things together, and opened up further discussion between Ben and Julie about the way aliens have impacted their lives both separately and together.
On the topic, I really have a bone to pick with this whole demonizing Ben for "not wanting anything to do with Ship." I know conflict needs to be included somehow in order to further the plot and so on and so forth, but, as you said, it's uncharacteristic of Ben to say that. And I think that's because everyone took it the wrong way (canonically).
First of all, is he not allowed to decide he doesn't want that responsibility on top of all his already existing responsibility?
He just wanted to go on a relatively normal date with a girl, and instead he was forced into giving away his secret, putting his unarmed date in danger, and on top of it all, involuntarily coerced into adopting an alien weapon. It'd just be another thing to have to hide from everyone.
Does anyone think about why he was even apprehensive about asking her out in the first place? How he must have stressed about what would happen if she found out, and things didn't go so well? If they didn't continue seeing each other? It's one thing that she's accepted his alien superhero double life, but now she's indirectly adopted an alien weapon with no prior experience with anything of the sort. That's not what he signed up for, but he has to deal with it.
But please fandom, go on about he's the insensitive one 🙄 lol anyway you could headcanon that he'd have had a bad experience with a Galvanic Mechamorph at that point, yes. But, even canonically speaking, all the implications of Ship's addition to the story are precisely why this was done - because all things must be connected and lead into each other in order to tell a story. People really seem to hyper focus on Ben's addition to the conflict and ignore the way he contributes to the resolution, but that's a slightly different conversation.
For the record, it's a GOOD thing that Ben recognizes these things. Of course someone whose life has been tied to alien tech since he was a kid would be consciously aware of the reality of the situation. He responds to the situation in the way that he should, and as we should expect him to when his past is taken into account. The same thing can be said about Julie, actually, since she has not had any prior experience with aliens, and would absolutely respond to a dog-like creature accordingly, apparently even if it chased her date around the pier, kidnapped her, and put a bunch of people in danger.
Anyway yeah in case I didn't make myself clear all of these are great points. Always ok to send <3
#ask#I could go on but tbh I'd be repeating myself#though SOMETIMES I feel that I necessary in this fandom#lol okay I will stop#ben 10#ben tennyson#ben 10 omniverse#ben 10 alien force#ben 10 ultimate alien#benlie#malware#headcanon#ben 10 headcanon#ben 10 love interests

idk if you saw twst chapter 6, how do you feel about it?
This is embarrassing to admit but... I might've actually sobbed. I said Idia is similar to me and has similar issues, and I meant it, but I didn't think it would be this similar in many ways. No I will not go into detail as to why, again, for personal reasons. And you have to understand, I hate crying so I try to limit it to like once a year. I can't believe I wasted this year's cry pass on a loser shut-in (I mean that endearingly). The whole memory part felt like a callout directed at me, if that makes sense. Yeah, I know that sounds a little pathetic, but I don't really care. I have a lot of thoughts, lots of opinions. Spoilers ahead, click off now if you don't want to see that.
Okay, so I'll start with things at the end because I don't remember everything in the beginning. This is Idia and Ortho time first though.
I love how Ortho is now his own individual self, a student, instead of just being "Idia's little brother." No, now Ortho is in his own grade, he has his own likes and hobbies, I love that for him.
Also, I know I've heard people say they don't forgive/excuse Idia and Ortho. But if you notice, Idia clearly doesn't forgive himself or give any excuses. He knows he should have had consequences for his actions (in the end the consequences didn't seem as harsh as they probably should've been) he was realistic about not returning to school when everyone is like "okay, I'm going home, see you later in class, Idia" and he's just "??????" Although, I'm kinda happy that Idia and Ortho decided to take things to the extreme during their overblot. It makes things interesting.
I was living for Ortho and Idia interactions, especially towards the end. Red fire Idia? Please. Please, I loved seeing it. I actually watched Hercules in Japanese because the movie gives me serotonin just because of Hades, but I sat down and watched the movie carefully with a friend through discord. We were judging the voices and dialogue and everything, and I predicted like at least five things that happened just by dialogue alone. So when I saw those dialogue bits in the actual chapter? I freaked out.
Okay, so now leaning towards the others. The growth and relationships depicted between the characters like Leona and Jamil; Azul and Riddle; and Vil, Rook, and Epel, were very nice to see. I'm glad we got to see that, and it wasn't just Pomefiore. It was nice seeing Jamil realize his issues and everything thanks to Leona, it was amusing seeing Riddle and Azul have conflict but come together in the end as they were polar opposites but still worked well together, and it was interesting to hear how Vil and Rook met. Rook was a Savanaclaw student? I was reeling. I wonder if Leona approached Crowley and just went "I want this blondie out of my dorm." Probably not, but it's fun to imagine. Finally, the scene where they all reunite at the very end with their friends? Very sweet. My favorite was probably Ace and Deuce with MC and Grim.
Now let's be honest, Idia and Ortho were much worse than the others. Riddle nearly choked people during his overblot, Leona almost turned Ruggie to sand and was going to hurt other students, Azul stole powers from people around him, Jamil was willing to hurt Kalim and friends just to take control of a dorm, Vil wanted to kill Neige and possibly his own team (MC and others). Idia and Ortho saw all that and went "hold my energy drink." They cranked up the seriousness by wanting to destroy the world. What next? We still have Malleus left, can you imagine what he's going to do?
Speaking of Malleus, all that stuff at the end with him was concerning. He's obviously feeling distraught. Lilia mentioned not having much time left, we saw Vil as old, Malleus seems to be distraught at the idea that soon everyone he knows will be gone including the only loved ones he's ever known (Lilia, Silver, Sebek, maybe others). His overblot will probably have something to do with that. Although it would be a little funny if his mentality as a dragon fae wanting to hoard went "what if I put everyone under an eternal sleeping spell so no one can leave me or die, and then I keep them."
Anyways, I probably have more thoughts and stuff but there was just so much that happened this chapter. If you want to hear my opinion on a specific part I missed, let me know.

Rook JP Cappelletty Fanfiction
Love the way you lie
Okay, I'll give you a summary. Basically Rook has been in a toxic relationship with a girl for six months now. Colson and the boys have noticed and are trying to get him out of it. These fics are an English translation of my fics in Wattpad. If you like them I have some more focused mostly on Rook. I accept suggestions uwu
Rook has been in a toxic relationship for over six months, and Colson knows it. At this point he doesn't know what to do, he has seen his best friend get slowly destroyed by the girl he is with. He started out with just dark circles, bags under his eyes that made it clear that he was not sleeping well, or nothing at all. He later found out for himself that Rook's girlfriend kicked him out of his own home in the middle of the night because of jealousy. She let him sleep in the garden even when it was raining. That had led to Jp spending more time sick than healthy. Him suffocating in the middle of playing a song because he was so sick that he couldn't even breathe normally. With coughing fits that made he looks like he would choke. They had all told him to come home and rest. He had insisted on staying. Kells didn't understand why and over time he understood that he would rather be away from home than be with her. So ... why didn't he leave her? For some reason he didn't dare to ask him and just tried to help him from the distance, thinking that he shouldn't get into it, that he would do better for his best friend if he didn't get in straight. He couldn't be more wrong.
Then one day he had to pick up Rook from a park in the middle of Cleveland at three in the morning and take him to the hospital. He said that a drunk man had thrown a bottle at him and that he had been unable to dodge it. Colson knew he was lying. He knew that it had been his girlfriend. He didn't say anything and just drove, took him to the hospital and waited patiently. They had to suture a wound that covered his left temple up to his eyebrow and he lost 30% of his vision in that eye. Then, back in the car, he burst into tears. Kells didn't know what to do, he couldn't just sit back and watch that harpy tear his little brother apart. But he didn't know how to get into that problem without causing more damage.
Rook stayed that night to sleep at his house. Colson did not sleep. He watched him while he slept. Somewhat creepy but he just couldn't stop looking at him because it seemed like it was the first time he slept in a long time. He felt guilty, because he was just standing there and watching him burn.
After that night he began to see Jp less often and when he saw him he did not look like himself. He looked like the most tired person on this earth and looking into his eyes was almost painful. Colson had never seen such sad eyes. It hurt, it hurt because Rook, his Rookie was the happiest, most active and jovial person he had ever met and at this point he was not a shadow of who he really was.
Everyone had already noticed. They had talked about his girl, how sad and destroyed he looked. Baze had told them that he had heard his girlfriend yell at him for spending more time with them than with her. Tell him that he didn't love her and that he was a bad boyfriend, that he was mistreating her and that he didn't deserve someone like her. Rook had simply apologized, he had promised her that he loved her and that he would do anything for her. Rook definitely didn't deserve someone like her. That girl was a witch. (cof cof Bitch cof cof)
However none of them did anything. They stood there, watching him burn.
The few times they saw Jp he was completely different. He cried with songs and with movies and at that point none of them dared to laugh because they simply knew that crying had nothing to do with the movie. They tried to comfort him but none of them really got in, to stop what was happening in front of their eyes. Colson dared to ask about their relationship shortly after Rook passed out from exhaustion in the middle of a hangout. But he didn't get to ask beyond "How are you doing with her?" or How's your relationship? " and his drummer always answered a " good " that sounded as harsh and bitter as a stab.
Then Rook started arriving with injuries. He started with a pair of broken fingers and he said the wind had closed a door on his hand. Just a few weeks later his nose was broken and he said a book had fallen on his face. He forced a laugh and said "trouble of being short." And within a month he had a black eye, the same one that he had lost part of his vision of. And this time he said that he had accidentally opened one of his kitchen cabinets on his face. The boys looked at him, none of them believed it and they all knew that it had been his girlfriend who had closed the door in his hand, who had thrown that book against his face and who had hit him by opening one of his cabinets uncarelessly out because of her jealousy.
The situation was getting more and more difficult. Now in the sixth month, Rook had just had his fourth anxiety attack in their short time in this month. Slim had gone with him for a walk when his breathing had calmed and he had stopped shaking like a frightened dog. Baze and Kells had stayed there, talking about how far this had come. That's when Colson decided that he couldn't just stand there and watch him burn, he walked over to the couch and took Rook's phone, thanking he had left it there and discovering that he didn't even have a password on it. A part of him wanted to believe it was because Rook expected one of them to try to help him, but deep down he knew it was because his girlfriend was checking his conversations and everything he did. Colson discovered under Baze's watchful eyes that Rook, or rather his girlfriend, had deleted all the female contacts from his phone, even Casie's was not there. What kind of upset jealous was that girl? Finally he reached the WhatsApp messages and there, the first on the list was her. Kells began to read the messages aloud.
- Where are you? - It's her two days ago. - Kells house, recording. - Rook's answer. - You prefer them to me. - She adds. - I've only been away from home for three hours- Rook answers. - You don't take care of me like before, you don't even call me queen like you did before, why don't you love me anymore? What did I do? You are always with your friends and you are no longer with me - Colson continues to read her messages. - I love you more than anything, honey. But I really have to record - Jp responds. - It's a lie, you're so mean to me, I hate you so much! - They are pure written messages, but Colson knows that Rook is blaming himself for that. - My sunshine, no. I love you, I love you very much. I'll be back in an hour I promise. I'll make you dinner and we can watch a movie together. Whatever you want ... - Rook is too good for that girl. She doesn't reply anymore until yesterday. There is a similar conversation that lasts to this day. Now there are a lot of messages from her that Jp hasn't even answered, possibly because they are from when his anxiety attack started. Yet there they are - Jp Where are you? Did you change me again for your stupid friends? You prefer them ... You are horrible ... You don't deserve me ... - She starts and Colson and Baze want to hit her even though they would never hit a girl. - Answer me! Are you with another girl? Is that? I hope you die! I hate you! Do you want me to end my life? You know I can't live without you! I told you! You will make me kill myself! I'll kill myself if you let me! - The messages end there. Now everything makes sense. Now they know why Rook wouldn't let her. She threatened to kill herself. Possibly that girl was so crazy that she was capable of doing it just to fuck the crap out of the boy. Baze and Colson are feeling sick. They know they have to do something, because at this rate it is she who will kill Rook.
- We have to report this - Baze begins. Colson knows that he is right. - She is hurting him, physically and emotionally. That is full-blown abuse. - Baze adds. And yes, he is right. But it is quite difficult to assimilate that one of them is in a toxic relationship of that caliber. More Rook, the good and pure boy Rookie. -We only have the messages, how can we show them how fat this is? -Colson knows how bad the police work, no one will believe them if they say that a girl is mistreating her boyfriend. They will think the opposite is the true and could get Jp in trouble. - I have photos of injuries from the last few months. Well, Instagram stories, but I think it will work. Also, they just need to see him, he is clearly emotionally devastated. - Baze adds and nothing more is needed to convince Kells, they both wrap up warm and send a message to Slim telling him what they have discovered and that they will report. They asked him to keep Rook out of the house until they return because they know he will not want to report his situation. Slim responds quickly, wishes them luck, and finally the boys leave. They drive in Baze's car to the nearest police station and wait until they are attended. It is a bit difficult to explain the whole situation to the agent, why they have the phone of his friend and since when he has been going through all this. But when they say the girl's name, the policeman's face changes. Apparently it was not the first complaint that they received about her for abusing her partner physically and emotionally. But there had never been enough evidence and everything had been up in the air. But now, this was the fifth report to her name and they had clear evidence of psychological and physical abuse. The agent promised them that they would send a patrol to arrest the girl and that she would be temporarily detained as alleged guilty of domestic violence on charges of physical abuse and emotional abuse. That didn't sound like a total victory, but the agent promised them that justice would be served, but by law they had to investigate a little more, that they would need to speak with Rook and take testimony from the neighbors.
Kells and Baze returned home, informing Slim of what had happened. Slim and Jp arrived shortly after they entered the house. Colson handed the phone to his drummer and the brown haired boy looked at him confused. -You don't have to go back to her, it's over ...- It was Slim who said that. Rook looked at them all, a hint of fear on his face that vanished when Baze gaves him a comforting smile. Then he burst into tears, Colson hugged him first and then everyone joined the hug. -I thought it would never end ... I was so tired of her shit ...- Jp starts crying, but he's smiling. - Fuck ... thanks ... - Rook ends. At least it's good to know that he himself had realized the toxicity of his relationship.
Ah well it's over XD. If I'm honest this occurred to me listening to Eminem and Rihanna's song "Love the way you lie" but it is quite based on what happened between Jhonny Depp and Amber Heard and also on the post that Melissa Benoist made about her relationship with Blake Jenner. I guess you all know about Johnny. As I know that Melissa's case is less known, I will explain a little, although you can look for her post with the full story of what happened. Basically she was married to Blake (she is now divorced and recently had a son with Chris Wood, with whom she has been in a relationship for a while) the fact is that she had a toxic relationship with Blake and he abused her physically and emotionally. One of the most serious things he did to her was smash a phone in her face. She lost part of the vision in that eye and now has a mark on her iris and pupil, although she had always said that she was from birth until she recognized everything that happened not long ago. Well, the point is that I relied on these two relationships to write this. I mean I wrote this out of respect for these people and for everyone who is or has been in toxic relationships. I've been to one myself. Well that's it. Thanks for reading and don't get into relationships with shitty people. Bye!
Pd: English is not my native language, I have a good level, but you may write something wrong. I apologize if there is anything wrong.
