And random moments of dead calm and quiet focus as he approaches the end, brow furrowed and jaw jutting out in a concentrated pout

Then finally tossing the controller aside and getting up to leave, offering you a hand, only proud of his completion after he's had a moment to relax

"Shitty game. C'mon, get up, we're talking a walk. Been sittin' an' staring at that shit too long"

Just a full day of bundled up nerves and tremendous laughter as you watch him, but practically glowing as you both walk out to get that much need breath of fresh air

Just hope it ain't a game that would take longer than a day to finish. He likes to do things all in one go (100% completion) so it'd be stewing in his mind all night, but at least then you'd get sleepy pouty Bakugou

Gooooood morning Trigun fandom, I'm up bright and early, ready to sink my teeth into today's analysis/detailed watchthrough episode - 11. To A New World.

I can't believe we're almost done with @tristampparty. These 12 days have been a blast and I'm very glad that I got to chat abt them!! I've been in a bout of artblock recently too, so I'm glad that I can just ramble instead!

Spoilers for Trigun Stampede and Trigun Maximum, and CWs for. okay this one is a Lot, but discussion of violation of bodily autonomy, sexual assault and trauma, pregnancy, transphobia, harm coming to children, Millions Knives in general, Vash's passive suicidal tendencies. If I think of any more I'll pop them up here but this episode is a heavy one!

If you wanna skip those first few CWs (Totally understandable <3), you can skip the paragraphs labelled with a [CW] at the front.

[CW] Okay so we're gonna tail off the end of Episode 10 for a second, but uh. Knives in this scene is using extremely Loaded Language to outright tell Vash that there is something wrong with him that needs to be fixed.

Just to be clear I do think Vash is very trans-coded (intentionally or not), and that very strongly influences how I interpret this scene - I myself am a trans man as well.

Cool, moving on! That's all really for the end of ep 10, I just needed to point out that Knives is using language that is commonly used to justify corrective sexual assault; which is pretty much what my reading of this scene is analogous to.

what in the fresh hell i got jumpscared by dub again. returning to subs hold on a moment. Like i've been checking dub occasionally to match up some dialogue and make sure I'm not being misled by Subtitle Jank but I'm one of those guys who can't listen to anything without subtitles lmao

But i also think i do get the funniest possible translation of this line - actually wait no i hate the double meaning (with Vash's body being used to kickstart the pregnancy imagery). was that intentional. who did this.

Anyway Meryl kicking Wolfwood is really funny but also like. Yeah. justified. She's having a no good awful time but like. She's so willing to believe in Vash, to chase after him even into Extremely Dangerous conditions (There's those hints of Trimax Meryl again....) and Wolfwood is being an ass here. (An understandable ass. But an ass nonetheless). Which is to say YEAHHH MERYL GET HIS ASS!!!

Knives' gay little like. bodysuit here. He and Vash have the same build but their respective clothes make them stand out very differently. Also that Knives' stuff seems to have more muscle definition (HYDRATE. You shouldn't have that Knives you need water :pensive:) which could be building towards his more intimidating appearance.

Also I'd be a fool to not show everyone my initial reaction to this

I've talked a little bit about how Vash uses his gun as a tonfa (thwacky baton) most of the time in melee combat, and I think that's a great way to show him utilizing something Knives gave him to Kill as a nonlethal weapon - in this, however, he doesn't have it and his normally very fluid very good form martial arts is flailing and panicked. Vash is pretty good at keeping his cool in most combat situations, and is a very skilled fighter. Seeing him lose that cool and just start struggling when Knives tries to grab him is :(

Once again the metal/organic dichotomy is coming into play - the creation of inorganic but the destruction that comes from the organic. Typically plant (as in flora) powers in media lend themselves to being creation powers, life, and healing. But Vash here has that plant (flora) theme but those are very much a force for destruction.

Also Knives with the angelic white, and Vash with the black.

I hate Conrad So Much (he's such a good character). Like we Know to some extent that dependent plants are self-aware enough to feel pain, to hold onto memories, to hatred, to love. They don't have consciousness the same way humans or Independents do, but they feel, they live, they understand what Vash tells them. Maybe it is a shallow form of themselves. But I think something a lot of people fail to realize is that (some, not all, because they are individuals even throughout a hivemind) plants appear to enjoy their purpose.

Once again the memory that is shared with Knives in Trimax of a woman and her child thanking the plant for her service and she smiles? After being fused, that plant held onto that memory. I've been given no reason to believe that plants in Tristamp are different, so Conrad is just,,, ignoring the subtleties of plants and taking away their agency to choose for themselves. Doubly so for Knives, who can communicate efficiently with them.

A very quick blink and you'll miss it detail is that Vash says "It was our fault humans crashed here!". The shifting blame and guilt between the two is something that is fighting the narrative allll the time, but Vash attributing to both of them as an appeal to Knives is interesting to relay how he feels.

I also don't think Vash is right, though, when he says the only reason humans abuse plants is because they crashed. Tesla was before, Chronica in Trimax has apparently seen independent fusions before (For what reason?). Like yeah to this extent it's a result of the big fall, but there'd still be problems without it. Nobody is right in this argument lmao

(except me. I'm always correct about everything ever)

[CW] Once again - violating Vash's consent and autonomy because he does not agree with or differs from Knives. Corrective violation, in this case. It's also important that it's Meryl who calls this out - she has to really really struggle for her autonomy to be important. She's small, carry-able, inexperienced, doesn't have any special powers or genetic modification. She's carrying a tiny gun from a man who can never back her up anymore. In fact, nobody is backing her up! She's out here alone! But she's sticking up for Vash. She cares about him,,,, so much

SURPRISE ROBERTO ATTACK [sobs]

Meryl pulled the nail out of him and placed his hands gently over the wound, as one might do in a casket. A memorial of cigarettes and his flask. All this will be destroyed soon, but Meryl did give him a funeral to the best of her ability.

Knives using Roberto's image is cruel as hell. Not to Vash but to ME. He's already dead you can't do this to meeee. "How do you think they'll react when they learn you caused the big fall" He will never learn it!! he never got the chance!!!

So fun fact you can actually eat geraniums. It's just that if Rem had said yes Vash probably would have eaten it right there and then. I've made that mistake before (told one of my class that nasturtiums were edible and he just ate one. right from the plant)

So; the Tesla scene. Something I do want to point out is that Rem finds them almost immediately, and Knives doesn't immediately pass out - Is he still catatonic enough to miss Rem's speech, or did he hear it? Because the reason that Vash turned out like he did is because he was awake to go through that with Rem - Knives was unconscious the entire time and didn't get to start that trauma recovery.

It's also important to recognize that these memories could be unreliable, especially as Knives tampers with them later.

I do want to know which version of the Bible Knives was reading. Because depending on translation/version, you can get Very different ideas out of that.

Anyway Knives is kind of beginning his spiral in that memory - "Humanity never learns" kinda shit, which seems to take place after Tesla. Who knows how long. But baby Vash calls that out and goes "yeah lets have faith"! Baby Knives looks a tad shocked and then Present Knives just. Cuts off the memory. What was the ensuing conversation!!! Hello???

Like he's clearly Having Thoughts (The Horror), we just don't get to know what those were.

So remember when I said it was interesting that Vash said it was "our" fault that the ships crashed, sharing the blame?

Yeah that gave Knives some ammo that just. Broke him. Shifts it allllll to Vash. Update Vash's description to running on 18 guilt complexes, CPTSD, and bisexuality.

[CW] There's so many different forms of assault, metaphorical and. Not. That is happening in this scene from mind violation to Knives literally using Vash's (specifically Vash's) body as a vessel to impregnate other plants which. Hey did you know that pregnancy is a massive fear of a lot of trans men. So many transphobes reduce trans men to their capability to have children, as if that's all they're good for (even if it would kill them.), and that often leads to corrective rape in order to "remind them of biological reality". In this case, Vash is a plant, he's meant to create, and yet he doesn't. But he's still being used to create anyway.

Again, Meryl also directly calls out Vash's lack of consent and gets shot down by Conrad. The whole scene is just. Hgnrhgnhrhnrnrn. It's So,,, everything to me, because it's a really good scene and shows you how far gone Knives is in Tristamp.

There are panels in Trimax that are,,, the imagery is there, but it's very overt in Tristamp.

Also hey yeah. Why is Conrad still alive?? Did he have access to cold sleep? or it's probably the robotics but did he not think of enhancing humans that way? It might just be a temporary solution, I guess, given that he is. Actively coughing up blood.

Alright! I have finished this part of the analysis that I always Feel Strongly about lmao - I have fun doing it but that's such an emotionally heavy episode.

The Cosplay Progress (?)

Okay...I'm doing it. I'm showing off the hot mess of progress of the possibly decent, or absolutely hot garbage, cosplay of my version of human!Ink. I do have a nice chunk of the items for the cosplay - just gotta put it together. Most of the putting together can be done in a day, and I have until July to finish it all, soooo...we'll see how this goes! ^^;

Now I'll just post updates maybe every other day, or once a week, since I do have most of it in hand. And it will all be under the cut, since it'll long as fuck. So, without further ado, let's begin, shall we?

First off, this is probably the most ambitious cosplay I've ever done. Normally I do something easy. Examples: Stiles from TW, casual Keith from VLD, and recently (for Halloween) genocide route Frisk. debating on positing what garbo pics i have of those

Flowerfell!Frisk? Probably the most complex I've done, and only because I had to have help make a flower crown, actually use fabric glue for the flowers and little heart on the shorts and flower on the mask , painted up a random prop stick I had lying around no idea why i had that , and did a little bit of faint make-up. And ended up with this:

So after that, for some damned reason, I decided it would be a GREAT idea to do a difficulty jump and do Ink! Yaaaaay...I'm so smart. I have been looking at this as a reference for what I need mostly coz i had it saved on my phone already , which has been both motivation to get this done...but also a little intimidating. But I'm already too far into this. Can't back out now!

Anyways, enough rambling! Let's start with the first update on this silly thing!

HOODIE

So, firstly, I already had my eye on the Ink hoodie from @simakai's shop! I already have the Underfell one that I used for my Flowerfell!Frisk cosplay. I also have the Outertale hoodie, bi pride hoodie, and ace pride hoodie all from Simakai! They are all amazing hoodies, and I actually just bought Epic's hoodie from their new shop! Definitely check them out! They're comfy, well made, and I'll admit I wear my Outertale and Underfell hoodies out sometimes.

The pic doesn't do it justice (hence all the millions of links above), but tada! The hoodie! My biggest worry is maybe tripping on the scarf, but I think I can manage. place your bets coz my ass clumsy

Also, there is a little surprise in it!

Twas quite the laughing jumpscare when I was messing with the pockets.

Update 2 time!

Apologies for how garbage the pics are for this part. Space was a mess at the time, and I'm too lazy to redo it. With that out of the way...let's ramble!

PANTS

So, next to the sash for the vials, this was surprisingly the hardest thing for me to find. I couldn't find anything that looked "just right". The first pair that I bought did look just right...but the color was way off. Way too bright from what was advertised. Took me a while to find another pair, and I actually bought two more. one of which i may use for a ftfo!ink Now, the next pair is the right color...but it's just a nice pair of sweats/joggers. Which is a bit of a bummer, but seeings how I cannot sew/make a full blown pair of pants (can barely sew at all), and my stepmom (who can sew) isn't that insanely skilled, they will have to do.

Here is a pic of the pants side-by-side coz for the longest time I was going to go with the first pair I bought. But after putting it together with the top...no. Just...no. Did not look good. You'll have to take my word for it.

And before you ask, yes. I will have assistance sewing on the little suspenders. That will be two separate posts on their own in the future! It won't be just plain brown pants.

GLOVES

So these were a bit easy to get. Granted, I did buy two pairs, because I couldn't decided initially. It was only after trying them on that I could make a decision.

They are a bit long, but I can live with that. especially coz I am not planning on doing the tatts, that would end terribly And, yes, they are missing that little piece on the pinky. Just like the pants are missing the suspenders. And just like with those, I will be having assistance sewing that piece on!

I could show you want I have of that, but I'm planning on making that one big update.

SHOES

Yes. Shoes. I know our favorite souless bean doesn't wear shoes anymore...but I have to. No need to get my toes all messed up! Especially at this convention center. Walking around there can be a nightmare! Closed toed or not. 😭

Anyway!

They were sadly kind of expensive, but these were the closest I could find that kind of fit for what I was going for and i looked at custom ones first. Plus, I will be wearing these outside of the cosplay. So I get shoes for cosplay, and shoes for whenever I wanna wear them - a win-win.

But, one more thing! I will also I guess ruin them, in a way. How will I ruin them? Well...I was thinking of adding more splatter to them. Plus, see that pesky logo? Welp...I also had an idea for that.

And I'll just leave this update at that. >:3

Update 5! Long time coming, I know. But a lot of what I have left are bigger pieces that have a few extra things I gotta do, and I just haven't been focused on doing them. But since I'm actually going to finish this one this weekend, I decided to show the unfinished product. With that being said, here we go!

VIALS

These were actually so hard to find! I couldn't find anything that worked! And I originally started looking during the Halloween season, too! When these type of things would be more around. But everything was either way too big or just straight up decorative glass. Which...yeah. Would not do!

Eventually, after searching for ages, I found these on Etsy.

They're originally for necklaces, which, even though they are glass, they're hopefully a tad more sturdy. And, if things work out, I'll have a perfect way to keep them in the sash! We shall see.

I also found these!

Figured it would be fun to have little earrings on human!Ink.

Now, for the paints in the vials, I was having a hard idea what to do. Part of me wanted to put real paint in there. Yeaaaaah...probably not the best idea. But I finally figured it out, and I'll be working on it this weekend!

Hello hello hello! Tis time for the final rush post of the process! It's all the final stuff, so yay. Pics of the full cosplay will be up either later on after the con, or the day after.

So, without further ado...here we go!

PANTS PART II

Tada! Simple little thing. Probably one of the easiest to do with the whole shebang. And the straps?

Ribbon. Ain't that neat? XD

GLOVES PART II

So this was a bit tricky. I had cloth from an old t-shirt to do for the pinky, but it kept making the sewing machine freak the fuck out since it's such a small piece. I did have backups of gloves that i could wear under the brown ones and cut off all the other fingers. Unfortunately, the two pairs I got turned out to be bright, obnoxious blue instead of the sort of teal-ish/mint color as advertised. So I had to get a third pair, which was a darker green and sheer. Not exactly what I wanted, but eh. Oh well. Creative liberties!

Here is the final result! I had to cut the pinky on the brown gloves too so it looked a little better. And the nail polish is close to what they'll be at the con, just more cleaned up.

SHOES PART II

Okay! Shoes! These came out a little better than I thought they would! And they were fortunately very easy to do. (Which I needed after a few things causing issues)

Tada! Fun little nod to his old shoes (before he had nada)! And of course the black "ink". The paint refused to splatter like I wanted, but oh well. Still pretty happy about it.

VIALS PART II

These actually proved to be more difficult than I anticipated. Many coats were needed, and even then they sort of still smeared oddly. Despite that, they turned out pretty great! I especially love the ink vial earrings. Those definitely were difficult due to their size.

SASH

Whoo-hoo! The sash! Fortunately, my stepmom is a sewing whiz and she helped a great deal with making sure this part of the cosplay came to be. So, here is the sash before:

Definitely was a bit rough, since the Joanne's we went to lost all momentum to care since the bankruptcy filing. And it did fray a little bit upon the cutting of the pattern. Not enough to absolutely ruin it, thank hell.

Tada! Vials in sash! Thankfully, they all are snug as a bug in a rug in those pockets! .... With super glue. Really didn't have a choice on that front. Still, for something as ambitious as this, something I definitely went clueless in to, happy it turned out as good as it did.

WIG

Okay! This...this bitch...was a nightmare. I had never styled a wig before, and for some reason thought it would be a good idea if I did! Had a nice tutorial vid all qued up and thought I was all set! Except...the wig was an absolute tangled mess and took ages to untangle. It was also the second wig I had bought, coz the first one, for some unknown reason, was more purple than advertised. So wig number two, I had to buy in a hurry and it was a tad cheap since I'm on a bit of a budget (moving at the start of August ftw).

But, finally, after hours of fighting with this beast, this is the end result:

The braid will be pulled back into the makeshift ponytail, since I actually do have to pull it back up once it is secured onto my head, but otherwise this is the final result. The blue and pink (squint and you'll see it) are extensions I added, which also proved to be a challenge. Still proud of it all for someone who has never done more than brush a wig before! Though, never again. At least for a long ass while. ;_; thank you Dust for being an easy cosplay for next year

MAKEUP

I can't really show the full makeup I have to do until, well, it's all done, but I have tried it all out and hooray! It all works! So, instead, here is the nice pile I will have to use:

We got two different shade of eyeshadow, since I can't do colored contacts. My eyeballs are...very weird. Only one eye will allow a colored contact, and I did not wanna waste money to only use one contact. So one eye will have green eyeshadows, and the other will have yellow eyeshadows.

There's also gonna be blue eyeliner with the green eye having it on the underlid, and they yellow eye having it on the upper lid. To make it all "whimsical" and "silly".

There's a pencil liner to create the inkblot shape, black face paint to fill it in, and black eyeshadow to help make it even darker. i am a master of doing some cool shit with eyeshadow

I have two different sprays to help keep the makeup on longer. And, of course, the foundation and concealer coz I will look like a zombie otherwise lols.

Yeah...I am...gonna be having a blast with this lot. Especially making sure I can remake the really nice inkblot I did when testing it out. Fingers crossed and best wishes for my dumb ass for being so ambitious.

BROOMIE

No. I will not show this one. Just picture a wig on a stick and there you go. Needless to say, as much as I wanted to like it...I don't. It looks so bad. 99% sure I will not bother bringing bootleg Broomie with me. Makes me sad, but hey...can't win them all.

Okay, so that's it! I'll do a part two of this post since, whoops! I have hit my limit! So, with the next post, I'll have the bag I specifically got for this cosplay (and will totally be using it later), and the full cosplay itself!

Master Detective Archives; RainCode, for the THIRD time.

Alright, So i have made it to the beginning of the final Mystery Labyrinth... and holy shit so much as happened. So hands were indeed thrown, in the direction of Yomi. I am still not over what happend to Yakou and what he did. I was NOT expecting Yakou to be the culprit in a million years and it only made me MORE sad over his death. Thankfully I was also gushing over Vivia at the same time so... I like to think it evened out somewhat- but holy hell that was OUTTA left field getting dragged to the restricted area and suddenly this turns into a ZOMBIE game?? Talk about jumpscare! Then I realized, where are the others? From this point I began to keep my eyes peeled for them. All while trying to absorb the info given in the game towards the big secret. between trying to understand just how the hell these characters who I knew damn well were dead were now walking around zombified and trying to find the other detectives, the septic tank had been once again thrown into the fan. then as I was exploring the factory... I saw Desuhiko's clothing and supposed skeleton... and I immediately went from; where are my kids? To; (Warning; a lot of swears ahead) MAKOTO, ANSWER ME, YOU STUPID FUCKING BITCH, WHERE THE FUCK ARE MY CHILDREN?!

(Me having an anerisum over where TF the other detectives are^) I just do not have enough reason to believe those four are dead yet despite seeing the "Corpses" mostly due to other games I've played where my brain has developed a process of; If I don't see the death with my own eyes that doesn't always mean their dead. Also, finding out the meatbuns that the townsfolk seem to love so much are made from human flesh....was kinda disgusting. I figured it out once I saw the meatbuns on the conveyor belt upon first entering the building. But yeah, once my switch is charged up again I'll be tackling the final Mystery Labyrinth! I don't think I'll be posting another blab on this until I finish the game, so during that blab I'll try to consise my thoughts down and list my favourite characters! See you then~!

Dear diary,

I've had you in my back pocket for a little while now but I have decided to debut my first entry in the wake of yesterday. Though it was not a particularly awful day, or even a bad one, it hit me as I laid in bed this morning that I was out of options. It took me a while to get to this point, as it's only the coupling of having both my husband and best friend living in the same house for a few days that I reached this verdict. But nonetheless, I am left without an ear to properly and privately confide in. So I turn to you, like millions have over the millenia.

Now for my complaining.

Yesterday started with everyone sleeping in, which meant I was up with the cat around 10 and my husband didn't enter the restroom until noon and I didn't get to see his face until 1 and then he forcibly roused our friend at 1:30 by jumping on her mattress. I had woken up our friend and been promised she needed no more sleep- but she fell back asleep while I did the dishes. Slept through all the chores I did and the jets flying overhead for the football game. And obviously it being her vacation I was reluctant to wake her from her deep restful sleep... but by the time we hit the town for some food at 2, we had barely three hours of sunlight left in the day.

Food was great, even with the sun in my eyes, and my husband bought me a hat so I could eat without going blind. Our friend was too sore from the walking the two days before, so we nixed our intial plans of going out to just head back home. Cartoons and card games were had, and the day melted away slowly. By the time we packed ourselves up to venture out for dinner, I had forgotten my grumpy morning feelings of being left alone and awake, cleaning and housekeeping while everyone wasted daylight sleeping thirteen hours.

Food was great again, and our friend tried sushi for the first time in a rousing success. We got bubble tea and once we were home again, the routine resumed. My husband poured a stiff drink, my friend and I popped an edible, and happily snuggled into a Saturday night. The two of them jumped into an online video game with other mutual friends and I gamed handheld beside them.

And suddenly, it got bad!

Reasons why are entirely unknown and beyond my guessing ability. All I know is my friend's mood turned dour sharply. Even now I pause writing to play back every second to try and identify a reason. But as they finished their game and I mine, and we decided on a movie to watch, she became sullen. More unhelpfully, she became incapable of saying much beyond "I dunno" and shrugging and frowning. My husband took over interfacing for the most part, as I was quite high and very lost on what to do.

Eventually, the movie turns on. 15 minutes in, my friend paws at me and asks to watch something else.

She is obviously visibly upset by the implication of sex work in the movie, and she leaves to the restroom. Despite myself, I feel frustrated. We had a conversation the nights prior about triggers for her after she witnessed a hanging in my husband's video game. She had done more shrugging when we asked what else may upset her, and left the answer at suicide and self harm. I furiously whisper with my husband but we're lost on what more we could have done.

She comes back and he reopens the movie library with new vigor to try again. Attempts to talk to her, or to offer her support or advice were met with... shrugging.

To my horror, she shows interest in nothing in the library except a godawful historical fiction action drama. My husband tries to text me sympathy. 15 minutes in, a cheap jumpscare happens. Our friend again asks we turn off the movie.

By this moment, it is 1am. I am checked out, high and grumpy. I am staring out a corner of the window where the blinds don't reach, and praying for the dark to swallow me. My husband's efforts to reassure our friend fail, and he puts on the most gentle silly anime possible instead of risking anything else. Suddenly my friend shoves away my snacks on the couch and crawls into my lap, and so I begrudgingly remain her pillow until past 2am, wherein I finally make my escape to bed.

So, recap: my fucking husband and friend ate up our day and our plans by sleeping in, and at night my friend completely failed to communicate her needs leaving the two of us to stress and flounder away our Saturday night trying to take care of her, guessing all the while.

I had woken up from a nightmare yesterday, and a harsh dose of reality in my inbox. I had set up an appointment with a local medical facility that clogged my Instagram feed, a place that advertised stretching sessions for people with mobility issues and chronic pain. It was for my friend to go to during her visit out here, as she suffers with both and her resources at home are minimal. I sent an email to the facility with her paperwork and a long introduction. I explained how she was a young woman who's life was upended by long covid making her physically disabled, and how dire I believed this service to be for her.

As an afterthought in the wake of the election, I mentioned we were both transgender and should that be an issue for our appointment to be cancelled. I went to bed Friday night with an appointment confirmation in my inbox and woke up Saturday with a cancellation notice. My friend forgot about it entirely, so never asked about the change in plans. Why tell her?

I tried so hard to make yesterday work. And for what?

Whatever. I'm done writing.

I've said this a million times by now but I'm always really confused by people who complain about Sophie's muted reactions in BunnyFarm but I'm honestly even MORE confused by people who try to justify her lack of reaction by saying she's probably desensitized to horror or something because like. when was the last time you guys watched BunnyFarm? Because Sophie reacts to almost everything a LOT, in a way that often feels pretty damn authentic.

Like. her voice rises in pitch when she starts getting freaked out. There's parts where you can hear her gasp and whimper at the scary parts. I love the really subtle, but effective acting after Susan's segment where she takes in a deep breath like she'd been holding it the whole time, and it takes her a few moments to steel herself before she's calmed down enough to talk again. And when she does specifically talks about how she thought that was really confusing, and how scared she was.

Towards the end of the episode in the corn maze, her voice is so breathy and terrified. It's really tense. Not to mention that BunnyFarm would seriously fail as an effective piece of horror if Sophie was screaming or shouting whenever anything scary happened. Loud noises are a tension diffuser, and BunnyFarm's pacing would be seriously fucked with any more loud-noise jumpscares than it already has. As it is, it's a really compelling slow burn of horror. The scares and the reality of everything as it relates to Sophie get more and more dire as the episode goes on, refusing to reveal to her just how high the stakes are getting until it's too late to back out. If you boil a frog, or something.

KBL v. Thai BL: My Two Cents

So, I see the Thai BL v. KBL discourse on twitter and thought I'd chime in on it.

Most common KBL stan arguments I've seen:

Thai BL is bad. Bad acting, bad direction, bad editing, etc.

Most, if not all, Thai BL actors and stories are problematic.

Thai BL is just porn with no plot.

Thai BL actors are 70% jumpscares.

Most common Thai BL stan arguments I've seen:

Most KBLs are boring.

KBL stans are xenophobic and/or fetishize the Korean look.

Even if some KBLs are good, they're not all that much better than Thai BLs.

KBLs are just het kdramas w/2 men instead of a het couple (i.e., little actual LGBT representation).

Arguments I see from instigators who're pretending to take the high road:

Taiwanese BL better than them all.

"Only good LGBT content out of Thailand are the ones starring [insert their favorite femme actor here]."

My Take.

Both sides have some decent points and some completely idiotic takes. I agree with KBL stans that a lot of popular Thai BLs feature terrible acting and plot. Not all, but maybe 7 out of every 10 Thai BLs I've watched (mostly popular ones) either lack significantly in the acting or the editing department (with some lacking in both). Few are outstanding pieces of cinema (though I don't think those ones that aren't are meant to be).

Not only are so many Thai BLs just poorly made (and no, I'm not talking about looking expensive, I'm talking about hiring looks/nepotism/name recognition over talent), so many of them are just ill-conceived to begin with. Most popular Thai BLs are adapted from light novels which are just straight up erotica. And when you take the sex out, there's nothing of substance left. Nothing wrong with that (IMO). But I do see the argument from KBL stans as I, like many others, watch media to immerse myself in an entertaining and sometimes profound story (not necessarily just to get my rocks off). Obviously, a story can do both but it needs to be done well and be well-balanced.

Next, relative to actors in other industries a lot of Thai BL actors have been exposed for being homophobic/rape apologists/colorist/etc. Thai BLs also feature harmful tropes such as making darker skinned characters the bad guys all the time (while pale-skinned characters are innocent angels who can do no wrong), or actively shun darker/less eurocentric features. THAT BEING SAID, there's a couple of caveats I want to point out with this line of thought:

Thailand is by far the biggest producer of live action BL content and is simultaneously the most visible. Of course, there's going to be more instances of abhorrent behavior that make it to the twitter trends than that of any other industry.

Korean men are also not angels? Lol. Like did we learn anything from all the one hundred eleven million times kpop idols have been exposed for racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, and all the other -isms and phobias out there? Just because your fave KBL actor isn't hitting the media circuit like the Thai BL actors are (thus, giving more opportunities for them to expose themselves/be exposed), doesn't mean it's not happening or that they don't think that way.

Point is, both can be horrible with regard to the problematic aspect lol.

As for the Thai BL stan arguments, I agree that most KBLs I've seen are not that interesting beginning-to-end. Many of the ones I've watched are either just as bad as the worst Thai BLs plot-wise or horribly mid with no camp/kitsch factor to save it. Very rarely do I come across a KBL that gets me hooked either due to outstanding production or outstanding story (or both, ideally). A lot of this, I think, is because I hate the kdrama-style of production/directing that can suck the soul out of a heartwarming story.

Now, don't get me wrong, I hate the Thai rom-com style of production/directing with the heat of a thousand suns but the rare saving grace is usually its camp "so bad it's good" value. Either way, both take many Ls in the production department, regularly.

That said, I agree with a lot of Thai BL stans that a lot of KBL stans are reformed kpop warriors who simply prefer the Korean look (which is where we get so many KBL stans calling non-kpopified Thai actors "jumpscares"). I want to be clear here that I don't think all or even most KBL stans are xenophobic, but I said this a long time ago that many KBL stans who talk about the superiority of KBLs and the "inferiority" of Thai BLs move weird to me. You can like something and not use xenophobic dog whistles basically calling Thai BLs (and, come to think of it, even Filo BLs) poverty content and Thai actors ugly for looking too non-Korean.

Please understand, I'm not saying folks can't like what they like. It's about how you express that that changes things (e.g., saying X actor is not attractive is very different than roasting a certain skin tone or virtually unchangeable physical feature across swaths of people). Also, I hate when Thai BL stans use this argument as a way to get out of addressing poor quality we get from Thai BLs that prefer a marketable face/name over good acting/story. Exposing latent Korean superiority complexes is not the way to win the argument about Thai rom-com quality being piss poor.

Finally, the so-called bench riders who are really just anti-Thai BL (rather than pro-KBL): Taiwanese BLs are not magically superior to all just because you want to pretend to be better than the other KBL stans while also simultaneously hating on Thai BLs. Don't get me wrong, I love some Taiwanese BLs but 1) those folx using Taiwanese BL as a crutch are usually not being genuine, and 2) Taiwanese BLs have the most suspect incest relationship-to-socially acceptable relationship ratio of all time lmaoooo. Taiwan is not stranger to terrible concepts and questionable acting. We cannot continuously pretend that all non Thai BLs are the Citizen Kanes of our time whilst this fact persists.

Worst of all are those who stan ITSAY/BkPP (claiming that it's not BL and they're ~serious actors) but roast every other Thai BL (and hell, all BLs in general). Like girl sthu, ITSAY is a BL and BkPP are full time singers now. /j but forreal, I have a lot to say about this group of stans that I'll save for another post. (a/n: I adore ITSAY and am seriously impressed with BkPP but some of their stans are just...yeah)

It's okay if you're not into romance movies that doesn't mean anything! I'm either into slow movies or anything Disney there's no inbetween akjsjsjs I've been trying to watch horror but don't know where to start, I loved The Vvitch, the new Suspiria, and Get Out but apart from those idk anything else I think Thoroughbreds could be horror? but maybe I liked that one bc is slow and the color palette seems a lot like Sofia Coppola's

i haven’t heard of any of those movies (except Get Out) so i’ll have to look into them! i'm not sure what you’d be into, but my all-time favorite horror movies are the conjuring franchise. i just love the characters and like yes there are jumpscares but i think they are pretty good unique ones and there is a ton of suspense that is the most frightening part. I also recently watched Midsommar and Hereditary. Midsommar i wouldn’t really consider scary more just like shocking. But Hereditary! The last like twenty minutes of that movie were fucking terrifying. Another favorite of mine is As Above So Below. It’s creepy as fuck and I’ve watched it like a million times and still really love it lol. Also if you haven’t watched Us I would 100% recommend. I have never cried from being so scared before (but i also watched it at night when everyone was asleep so yeah don’t do that hjbsfbj)

I went and rewatched @markiplier's first FNaF video ever.

Oh man… I got the feels seeing it again and I wasn't even in the fandom at that point in time.

It made me laugh so hard when he ran out of power on the first night. I kept thinking no, Mark, you're smarter than that, but then I stopped myself. No, he hadn't learned yet. He hadn't learned that the core four weren't named Freddy, Bunny Boliday, Mr. Duck, and Pirate Cove Man. He hadn't earned his crown yet. But he would.

Foxy was his first jumpscare. I doubt he even remotely remembered that detail, but I thought it was kind of fitting that Foxy was the only one of the core four he got for his pizzeria in FNaF 6.

That first video now has over 63 MILLION views.

Like I said, I wasn't in this fandom when it all started, but I've watched all 59 videos in Mark's FNaF playlist at least once before, and let me tell you… even though they're just Let's Plays, they're almost like a miniature archive of Markiplier from 2014 forward. You can see little steps he makes in the evolution of who he is as you go from game to game.

Mark, if by some miracle you see this post, I encourage you to go back and watch your first FNaF video. Maybe you'll laugh, maybe you'll cringe, maybe you'll call your past self an idiot for running out of power on the first night– whatever have you. But the reason I'm encouraging you to do it isn't for that, it's because I just want you to look back how far you've really come. This series of games doesn't define you, but like I said, it provides a nice little archive of how you've evolved over the past few years– which is something I'm proud to have watched, at least for the short time I've been subscribed to you in the present day.

It's been a pleasure to watch the King of Five Nights at Freddy's secure his crown one last time.
