lucky mdzs | sangcheng, side wangxian | 5.7k | fluff | complete set after “never been a natural (all i do is try)”
Jiang Cheng likes to think he’s mature enough to admit that he should shoulder some of the blame, but right now he’s too stressed, so he’ll just go and say it’s Wei Wuxian’s fault anyway.
After all, it's Wei Wuxian who, two weeks before the end of their summer break, just decided to go on that field trip with Lan Wangji, which ended up with Jiang Cheng being absolutely done with his brother, which ended up with Wei Wuxian talking nonsense, which then ended up with Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang in a relationship.
Or: Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang Try To Make Wangxian Happen, It Doesn't Happen

Genevieve sat at the restaurant looking at the time on her phone. Rashad was 45 minutes late for their reservation. Her text messages and phone calls went unanswered. She paid for her drinks and left the restaurant. At first she was worried that something bad had happened. So she drove to Domvallier to make sure everything was alright. The majordomo answered the door and directed her towards Rashad’s study.
As she stood outside of the door, she could hear him on the phone talking in an irritated tone. “William, this contract was really important. Whoever did the analysis didn't do it right, and we got outbid.” He went quiet as his business partner responded. “Yeah yeah. Let's talk tomorrow after you talk to her about what went wrong.”
She couldn’t quite make out what William was saying through the door. She felt bad eavesdropping so she knocked on the door. “What?!” Rashad flung the door open. Genevieve jumped, having never seen him lose his temper before. “Rashad, are you ok? I was waiting for you at the restaurant and you never showed up.”
“I had more important things to deal with than dinner, Gen.” He walked backed into his office and she followed him. He slumped down into his chair and she faced him, sitting on his desk. “Honey, what's the matter? I...I’ve never seen you like this.”
“We lost a bid, and we really needed to land this client. William is right. I've been too distracted…” he grumbled. “Well how can I help?” She put her hand on his.
“I need you to stop asking questions! You're the reason I've been distracted! This is why I didn’t date. It takes too much time away from the important things.” He pulled his tie loose and unbuttoned the top button on his shirt.
She winced at his words. She knew he was upset, but what he was saying cut through her. “I get that you're angry, but be very careful that you don't say something that you can't take back. I want to help you. Just tell me what…”
“Nothing. There's absolutely nothing you can do. Maybe being in a relationship is a mistake.” He rubbed his forehead and then ran his hand through his hair.
“A mistake? Seriously, Rashad? You're saying that our relationship is the reason you lost this client? Let me fix that for you.” She stood up and walked out of his office, flinging the door open and allowing it to slam shut behind her.
She walked quickly back to her car and peeled out of the estate driveway. Her phone rang and Pam’s number displayed on her car’s screen. She answered the phone and burst into tears.
“Gen, what's the matter?” Pam asked, concerned.
“Rashad...he's an asshole!” She said crying. “I don't want to talk about it right now.”
“Come to the beer garden. I'll call an emergency squad meeting.”
“O-ok…” Genevieve managed to sob out.
A short while later she pulled up to the beer garden. She looked in the mirror and sighed when she saw her reflection. She did her best to wipe off the smeared makeup before going inside the bar.
She explained what happened to Pam, Anitah, Alicia and Stephanie. All of them equally shocked and angry. Her phone beeped and a couple of texts came through from Rashad. She rolled her eyes without even reading them. Then her phone rang. She was about to silence it when she noticed it was her mom that was calling. She stepped outside, “Mom? Is everything ok?”
“Hi, baby girl. I'm afraid I have some sad news to share with you...Grandpa passed away today.” Her knees buckled. She knelt down on the ground, covering her face as she broke down and sobbed. “Baby, are you there?”
“I'm...I'm here, mama. I'll be on the next flight to Chicago. I love you.” She managed to get out.
Her phone rang again and it was Rashad calling. She pushed the ignore call button and turned off her phone. Her four friends came out looking for her.
Alicia knelt down beside her, “Gen?”
“I-I have to go back to Chicago...my grandfather died today…” she broke down again, and Pam pulled her into her arms.
“Ok let me drive you home. We will help you find a flight and get packed. Come on.”
Anitah pulled out her phone and said, “Let me call Liam. I'm sure we can have the jet prepped pretty quickly.”
Genevieve smiled at her friend. “Thanks, Nita. But I'll be fine flying like a commoner. I don't want Rashad to know where I went...and Liam's lips are looser than Doug’s.” She looked at them with a serious expression, “You guys, please don't tell him any of this. I can't deal with that right now.”
They all nodded in agreement and pulled her into a group hug. The five women arrived at her apartment. Alicia and Stephanie started packing a suitcase for her while she looked for flights.
“Gen, honey, do you want us to pack a black dress or a black suit?” Stephanie called out from her bedroom. “You know what? I'll pack both.”
Genevieve found a red eye and booked the ticket. The girls dropped her off at the airport. While waiting to board the plane she turned her phone back on and saw voicemails and text messages from Rashad. She didn't even bother to read them. She sent her mom and dad a message telling them that she was on her way then turned off her phone again.
Rashad sat in his office looking at his phone. She hadn't answered any of his texts or calls. She was sending him directly to voicemail. He felt terrible for the things he said. He was angry with himself for taking his frustration out on her, the woman that made him happy. She was his rock. He grabbed his car keys and drove to her apartment, knocking on the door. No answer. He could tell no one was home. He let out a sigh and called Pam. "What do you want Rashad?"
"Pam...I take it you've talked to Gen..." He could tell she was mad. "Is...she with you? I have to talk to her and apologize. I fucked up."
"Yep. You sure did fuck up, and if I recall correctly...Rashad...this is not the first time you've fucked up."
"I know, I know. Fuck! Is she there? Please just give her the phone."
"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you in a hurry? Do you have a big business deal to run off and close? Am I taking up too much of your precious time?"
Anitah yelled from the background, “Thought you had more important things to deal with!”
"Pam, please. I know you're pissed at me. I'm pissed at me. Can you please tell me where she is?"
Anitah yelled out, “Don’t tell him Pam!”
"Tell me what, Anitah?" Rashad asked, concerned.
“None of your business!” She spit out.
"Well I can tell you where she's not. She's not here with me, where she should be! It doesn't matter where she is. So lucky you! You’re free to focus on your important business dealings...completely uninterrupted."
Anitah added, “Yeah, that mistake is no longer a concern of yours.”
"Pam...Anitah...please...can you please just tell her to call me? And that I'm...nevermind." He stopped himself knowing he wasn't going to get any sympathy from either woman.
"Yea...nevermind your empty apologies. You blew it once and she gave you another chance. Do you have any idea how lucky you were to get a woman like her? Obviously not, or maybe she would have been a little more important to you."
She disconnected the call. He sat on the top step and put his head in his hands. His heart twinged knowing that he might have just lost the love of his life. Rashad made his way back to his car and drove home feeling defeated.
The following day, Pam, Anitah, Alicia and Stephanie were having lunch in the palace dining room. Pam looked at the others and said, "Poor Gen...I should be there with her. I loved her grandpa. On top of everything with Rashad, she's probably a mess.”
“We should be there...she shouldn’t be alone.” Anitah sat quiet for a moment before slowly looking up at then. “We can be there...” Anitah smirked.
Pam grinned, “You always have the best ideas. Let's do it.”
“I’ll meet you on the tarmac.”
They left the dining room and saw Drake in the hall. He stared at the four girls with a questioning look. “Do I want to know?”
Pam giggled and said, “We’re going to Chicago to be with Gen...Drake, not a word to Rashad or Liam. She doesn't want him to know where she is.”
“Nope, I didn't want to know, but my lips are sealed, baby. Be safe and call me when you get there. I love you.” He pulled her into a deep kiss and walked towards the conference room.
Rashad rushed into the palace looking disheveled. He was unshaven and looked like he hadn't slept. He was late for his meeting with Liam when the ladies saw him. Anitah snickered, “You look like shit, Rashad.”
He ran his hand through his hair. “I know. I...couldn't sleep last night. Is she ok? I just need to know that.” He looked at them, hopeful that they would at least give him that small piece of information.
“No, she's not ok. Why do you even care?” Alicia snapped.
“Of course I care...I love her, Alicia! I know I hurt her, and I deserve all of this. But can't you just tell me where she is so I can talk to her and try to fix this?” Liam opened the conference room door and said, “Rashad, you're late!” He walked towards the room, giving the girls one last sad look before closing the door behind him.
“Girls, I'm gonna have to sit this one out. Otherwise I'll have to tell Maxwell what we're up to...which means we might as well tell Rashad. I will hold down the fort and keep these boys in line, maybe talk a little sense into Rashad.” Stephanie gave the girls a wink before walking into the conference room.
“Me too, guys. Leo's a blabber mouth too. It must be a Rhys thing. Stef and I will make Rashad cry while you're gone,” Alicia said before heading back to hers and Leo’s quarters.
After packing, the two women went to the airport and boarded the royal jet with Brad in tow. “Bradley, hand over your phone,” Anitah said as she held out her hand. Brad groaned but did as he was told. She shot him a sweet smile. “Thank you. You know I can't have Bas pinging your phone. Otherwise, Liam and Rashad will be in the air before we even land. You understand, don't you?”
Brad just nodded his head as he took his seat behind the queen. After a long flight over the Atlantic, they landed at the airport and drove to the northern suburb where Genevieve's family lived. They knocked, and Genevieve answered the door, immediately bursting into tears when she saw her friends. She pulled them both into a hug, “You didn't have to come, but I'm so happy that you're here.”
Two days later, Liam sat in his study tapping his pen against a pad of paper. Bastien hadn't found out where his wife had disappeared to, and no one was divulging any information. The airfield said that the queen made made them sign a non-disclosure agreement, stating specifically that the king and King’s guard could not get the flight manifest. Stephanie and Alicia refused to say anything. The two women avoided both him and Rashad. Even Drake seemed to be avoiding him, leading him to think that he knew where Pam was, which meant Anitah was with her. The only consolation was that Drake didn't seem worried.
There was a knock on his study door, and Rashad entered. He looked even worse than he did the two previous days prior. He had dark circles under his eyes, hair was unkempt, and facial hair unshaven. “Liam, have you heard anything? She's still not responding to me. I think she blocked my number.”
“No,” Liam sighed running his hand through his hair. “Her phone is turned off and so is Brad’s, so we can’t ping them. And she made the airfield sign a NDA that myself or any of my guard cannot retrieve the manifest.”
"Can...can she do that?" Rashad asked, shocked
“She’s the Queen. So, yes, unfortunately she can...” Liam’s jaw clenched.
"You couldn't marry someone dumb, could you? Dammit. Can Bas run Gen's name to see if she left the country? I need to find her, Liam."
Before Liam could respond, there was a knock on the door, and Bastien walked into the study. He spoke directly to Liam, "Your majesty, Genevieve left for Chicago three days ago on a United flight. I confirmed that the royal jet is at the private airfield close to her parents’ home.”
Bastien turned to Rashad, "You should know...I found her grandfather’s obituary that was dated three days ago."
Rashad looked at him and he felt his heart drop. The same day he lashed out on her, her grandfather had passed away.
Liam addressed Rashad, “So...what do you want to do?”
"Bastien, please have my jet prepared. I want to leave as soon as possible."
“I’m coming with you...I need to speak to my Queen…” Liam clapped his shoulder, “and to protect you. I'll have Drake meet us at the airport.”
After they boarded Rashad’s plane, he asked, "Liam, how...do I fix this? I really fucked up..."
Liam looked at his friend and sighed. “I’ve been in your shoes...I’ve said things I haven’t meant and realized it afterwards. You just need to, one, apologize profusely, tell her what an idiot you were. Two, you need to not just tell her, but show her how much she means to you. You need to let her know that you love her and you’re willing to fight for what you two have. And three...hope Anitah and Pam don’t rip you to shreds before you get the opportunity. Those girls are like a small gang,” he shook his head.
Rashad took a deep breath, "I can do that. Hopefully she will let me. I don't know who hates me more...Gen or her friends. So, now I have to buy five sets of flowers and apologize to all of them?"
“Actually, that might not be a bad idea. Come with peace offerings for all,” Liam smirked. "Done. I'll order the flowers for Alicia and Stef now. I'll hand deliver the other three.” Rashad pulled out his phone and sent his assistant an email.
Liam eyed Drake, “You've been quiet. What's going on with you?”
Drake narrowed his gaze at Rashad as he spoke, "I'll be honest, I'm not very happy about this. Gen drives me absolutely insane. But, she's the closest thing to family my wife has here. And if I'm being honest, she's like family to me too. Right now, I'm not sure you deserve another shot with her."
Rashad hung his head. "I know...I never deserved her in the first place. But I'm still going to fight to get her back, Drake. I can't lose her."
Drake cautioned his friend, “Then you better be ready for a fight. Because she's not getting hurt again, Rashad. Do you understand?”
All he could do was nod his head as hot tears pricked his eyes and a lump formed in his throat. He forced himself to look out of the window thinking about Drake’s words. He was worried that she didn't think he deserved another chance either.
They arrived at the airfield and got into the waiting car. The men checked into a hotel and Rashad cleaned himself up. He looked in the mirror and groaned as he took in his reflection. He looked worse than he did that morning. His eyes were bloodshot, but he did his best to look presentable.
He met Liam and Drake in the hotel lobby and drove to Genevieve's parents’ house. Rashad's heart was hammering in his chest. He wiped his hands on his pants. His hands only ever got sweaty thinking about his girlfriend. After a short drive, they arrived. Drake and Liam exited the vehicle first as Rashad took a deep breath then followed his friends to the front door.
“Come in!” Someone yelled. Rashad opened the door and saw the house was full of people dressed in black. He surveyed the room looking for his girlfriend. “Rashad! Gen didn't tell us you were coming,” Genevieve’s mom greeted him with a hug.
“Um, I wanted to be here. I'm so sorry to hear about your father. I...I just found out about his passing today,” he stammered. His eyes scanned the room again.
“My stubborn daughter is around here somewhere. Rashad, she needs you. She’ll forgive you.” She squeezed his hand before walking away.
Genevieve walked into the living room and stopped dead in her tracks. His eyes landed on hers from across the room. His heart started beating fast. He hadn't realized how much he missed her until this moment. She turned and walked into the kitchen without saying a word. He followed her, trying his best not to bump the other guests.
He watched as she disappeared behind a door. The door, he knew, led to her father’s office. He tried the door knob and was surprised that it was unlocked. He walked in and saw her standing with her back to him, staring out of the window with her arms crossed over her chest.
“Gen…” He whispered. He took a few tentative steps towards her. When she didn't respond he closed the distance between them and put his hand on her shoulder.
“What are you doing here? How did Bastien know I was here?” She asked still looking out the window. Her heart ached, remembering his words.
“Sweetheart, please look at me,” he turned her to face him.
She kept her gaze down to the floor, “I can't do this right now, Rashad.”
“I came here because I heard that you're grandfather died and I'm so sorry, Gen. I also came here to talk to you and beg you to forgive me… but if you don't want to talk about that right now, I understand. I want you to know that I'm here and I want to help you get through this.” He tried to pull her into a hug but she took a step back.
“Thank you for your condolences. I have to get back out there. I trust you'll be leaving now?” She tried to walk around him, but he stopped her. “No, I'm not leaving. I'm here. I want to be here. I need to be here with you. Then when we go back to Cordonia, we can talk and I can show you how sorry I am for what I did. I can't live without you, Gen.”
“I'm not going back to Cordonia,” She pushed passed him.
He was stunned at what she said. “What do you mean you're not going home?”
“I am home...my old boss called me this morning. He has an open COO position at the hospital and wants me to take the role.” She picked up a piece of paper that was on her dad’s desk and handed it to him.
Genevieve walked out of the room, leaving him to read over the offer letter. The salary was three times what she was making at the clinic in Cordonia. His eyes froze at her signature at the bottom of the page. He knew in that moment that he had lost her. She was picking her career over him. She was doing the same exact thing he did to her and it hurt like hell.

Hi there! I've been reading some of the works you all have made and I love them! I was wondering if you could do #4 and #19 with jungkook, please?
Adore You (Jungkook x Reader Fluff)
Prompt request: “I thought you didn’t want me.” + “Are you jealous?”
Summary: There are so many things you adore about Jungkook. But if there’s one thing you don’t like, it’s how kind he is to everyone else. Can’t you just keep him for yourself?
Word count: 1.2k words
Tumblr media
You glanced at your seatmate from the corner of your eye. Jungkook had been sitting at your two-person desk since the beginning of the semester, and since then, you had begun to develop a crush. A pretty big crush, if you were being honest.
How could you not? Jungkook was kind, hardworking, and also incredibly good looking. You definitely weren’t alone in your infatuation, either. Almost every girl in your class eyed you enviously every day.
You slipped into your seat just as the bell rang. Jungkook was already there, and he glanced up at you as you arrived.
“Hey Y/N,” he greeted casually.
“Hey,” you smiled back, trying to stay nonchalant.
“Did you do the homework last night?” Jungkook asked, flipping through his binder. He was studious–far more than you, anyway.
“Nope,” you replied easily. Chemistry was the least of your priorities. “I had a late shift last night.”
“Oh, you want to copy?” Jungkook offered, pushing his binder towards you. “You’re still working? Aren’t you worried about your grades this year?”
“Thanks,” you said, pulling out your own notebook. “And not really. My grades are good enough for university.”
“Damn,” Jungkook commented with a smile, although you missed it because you were too focused on writing. “Impressive. Also, I didn’t get some of the questions. Sorry about that.”
“Wow, that’s new,” you smirked. “You’re a thousand times better at chem than me, though.”
The teacher arrived, clearing his throat as he set his supplies down at the front of the class. You and Jungkook lapsed into silence as the lesson began. During the course of the period, you nodded off numerous times. Jungkook nudged you awake every time.
“Just let me sleep,” you whined, keeping your volume low so you wouldn’t get in trouble. “This is so boring and I’m exhausted.”
“You should reconsider that job of yours,” Jungkook suggested haughtily, and you just laughed.
The girl sitting in front of you turned around and glared at you. At first, you thought she was angry at you for talking, but when her gaze slipped to Jungkook’s longingly, you realized she was just jealous.
She turned around quickly, and you figured she wouldn’t bother you.
But boy, were you wrong.
The next day in class, you arrived (nearly late, as always) to see someone sitting in your seat beside Jungkook. It was the jealous girl from yesterday. You walked up to your seat, eyebrow raised.
“Oh, Y/N,” Jungkook noticed, looking up from his binder, which was placed in the middle of the shared desk. “I’m just explaining something to Ara.”
“I can move if you want,” Ara offered sweetly, though her eyes were daring you to suggest otherwise.
“No, it’s fine,” you replied, a little amusedly. What else could you say? You slipped into the empty seat in front of your desk and retrieved your supplies from your bag.
Jungkook and Ara talked ceaselessly behind you. You heard her giggle, and it made you want to gag. But Jungkook replied enthusiastically, and you wondered if Jungkook enjoyed your company at all. Pushing your insecurities away, you focused your attention to the front of the room.
Of all days, your teacher was absent. A timid-looking substitute scurried into the classroom, stammering out some instructions. The volume of the class increased, and Jungkook and Ara laughed away.
Annoyed, you turned to your own work. The student sitting beside you was a quiet, nerdy boy. You figured he wouldn’t want to converse with you. Pulling out your phone, you put on earphones and blasted your music, trying to drown out Ara’s voice.
“Uh, excuse me,” the boy beside you said hesitantly. You turned to him, pulling out an earbud. “Your music is really loud. Can you turn it down a little?”
Your eye twitched in annoyance. Like the class wasn’t loud already. “Sure,” you replied through gritted teeth. Opting to turn your music off completely, you resorted to placing your head on the desk.
It was another long shift yesterday, too, so it didn’t take long for you to fall asleep. Still, the background noise of Jungkook and Ara never ceased and haunted you in your slumber.
The next day, Ara was sitting in your seat again. She and Jungkook were looking at something on her phone, laughing, and didn’t notice your arrival. More defeated than anything, you slumped into Ara’s empty seat without comment.
At the sound of your chair scraping against the ground, Jungkook’s head shot up. He opened his mouth, but you weren’t looking his way, so he said nothing. Instead, he continued to entertain Ara, too polite to do anything else.
You wished he would say something like, “This isn’t your seat” or “I want Y/N to sit here,” but you knew he wouldn’t. Maybe he didn’t care if you sat with him, anyway. Jungkook was nice to everyone, and you were probably just projecting your own affections onto him.
The teacher strode into the classroom just as the bell rang.
“I apologize for my absence yesterday,” he began sternly, as always. “We’ll be starting a lab today. You’ll have to work quickly today to make up for lost time. So before I explain this assignment, please get into pairs.”
Inwardly, you cursed Ara for stealing your opportunity to work with Jungkook. Sighing, you turned to the boy beside you to ask if he wanted to be partners. But just as you opened your mouth, a hand shot out and tapped the boy on the back.
“Hey,” Jungkook said once the boy turned in his seat. “Do you mind if we switch spots?”
Your eyes widened to surprise, flicking to Jungkook. He was looking intently at the nerdy boy, who stammered his agreement. Glancing at Ara, you couldn’t help but smirk triumphantly. On your desk, Ara’s fists were clenched.
Jungkook swiftly switched seats with the boy beside you.
“I was thinking we could be partners,” Jungkook said as he set his books down. “You look a little surprised, so I hope that’s okay with you.”
“No, of course it’s fine,” you hurried to respond. “I just thought you didn’t want me. As your lab partner, I mean.”
“Are you jealous?” Jungkook asked, his eyebrows rising. Your cheeks burned, and you hurried to deny that. “She kinda just sat there. I didn’t want to be mean and tell her to move.”
“How was I supposed to know?” you sulked, burying your nose in your textbook. Still, you were giddy at the fact that Jungkook had went out of his way to be your partner.
“Obviously I’d rather sit with you,” Jungkook replied, a little incredulously. “Don’t be dumb. You wanted to sit with me too, right?”
“Yeah,” you mumbled sheepishly, still blushing. Jungkook smiled at you fondly, but like always, you were too busy looking elsewhere to notice.
The teacher’s voice cut through the noise, and he continued with his instructions. You and Jungkook turned your attention to the front of the class, and your embarrassment lessened once Jungkook’s gaze was diverted.
There were many things you adored about Jungkook. But if there was one thing you didn’t like, it was how kind he was to everyone. Still, he made up for it by being nicest to you.
