Thoughts on TBHK Chapter 119
Tumblr media
"Babe wake up a New chapter of TBHK just dropped and on SPOOKY MONTH no less", The Board is Set, our main characters are here, let's see what aidairo has in store for us today. Judging from the Cover card, it looks like yashiro will FINALLY be going back to the Red house, OH boy, I wonder how shes going to react Now that hanako is ya know....EVIL!? Also I hope kou and mitsuba are ok 😥
Tumblr media
Yo I effing HATE this Dude, also Look at yashiro and Aoi"s relationship blooming, ya know i gotta say, the more I keep seeing these 2, the more more im reminded of Madoka magica and how sayaka pretty much played this role in the beginning, and We All know how that turned out 😅
Tumblr media
Y'ALL HAD ☝️ JOB!
Tumblr media
Ok 2 thing: 1, I Didn't even REALIZE we didn't get the chapter cover Until NOW, and 2, this panel looks Absolutely SICK OMG aidairo How do you keep cooking, also is it me or does the art style for nene kinda remind you of the art style form the VERY 1ST Chapter? Hmmmmm 🤔
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So she basically got Yetted out of existence Lol, WAIT I RECOGNIZE THAT OUTFIT, KOU!, KOU!!, KOU!!! Its gotta be Kou Please be Kou
Tumblr media
KOU!!! Oh how I've missed you and your traffic earing 😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AHHHHHH MY HEART 😭😭😭 I love her friendship with kou, yes while Akane and Teru ARE Reliable, kou has something they Dont, EMPATHY, COMPASSION, and HEART, he's such a comfort for yashiro, and he's not always against hanako like the other 2. he's the homie for a reason, and in my opinion, the BEST character aidairo has wrote ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ummmm I don't trust this, how come he's not freaking out and explaining what happened with him and mitsuba and That hanako has gone crazy, it almost feels like he's leading her somewhere PURPOSELY 😧😨
Tumblr media
Time is melding in on itself, TIME IS MELDING IN ON ITSELF!! Omg she's in the PAST Again 😰😰😰
Tumblr media
HANAKO!!!!😱😱😱
Tumblr media
I love their relationship, it reminds so much of nobara's and Yuji from JKK. look at her, she ABSOLUTELY yipping with Joy, and he's going right along with her ^_^
Tumblr media
AGHHH MY HEART!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
My heart...I really can't say anything more except, MY HEART, this Is LITERALLY the best scene in my opinion, aside from the absolute Masterpiece of the Picture perfect arc, this is DEFINITELY a Big runner up. F$%k Aidairo, What do you DO to my EMOTIONS
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
What?... What happened on his Birthday? What did the Clock keepers DO, Oh No NOT AGAIN!! OMG aidairo WHY, ok for real can someone please remind what exactly happened on his birthday? I know that on ONE of his birthdays That was day that Tsukasa decided to sacrifice himself to the Red house, and that THAT was the reason why hanako stayed alive, but I don't remember if that was on his 4TH birthday or entirely different day, if it was on his 4th Birthday then Holy shit, it looks like my theory about Tsukasa and yashiro MAY be right, and might in fact, COME TRUE 😨😰😰😰
Tumblr media
HOLY SHIT, ya know at this point I think aidairo just wants to BREAK us, Because why do you keep doing this like OH MY GOD please Stop, please Stop aidairo I can't take it anymore, just don't hurt them PLEEAASE, Omg Yashiro NOOOO!!!

hiii it’s tsutsumi-kurose!! would to hear your thoughts on the new chapter!! do you have any thoughts on who the people in the red house were this time? do you think they were really trying to help mitsuba? they seem different from the kannagi we originally saw in the red house arc! also just any thoughts overall bc wow what an ending!!
Hiii!!!! 💖💖💖
I really should write a proper post but...let's see! Yes, the new victims are mysterious, aren't they? I enjoyed the twist that they aren't evil and actually tried to help Kou and Mitsuba. At first their "Get Out"s seemed malicious, but then you realize it was a warning... (so yes, I do think they tried to help Mitsuba!)
I also don't think it's weird to say this is Amane's doing. This was his house, and these people weren't here in the old timeline, to our knowledge. And yes, I'm also thinking these aren't exactly kannagi...
That said, notice where they are. They're submerged in water. They're gurbling and glubbing out their words.
Tumblr media
As I've talked about before, the Entity beneath the Red House is associated with water. Water bubbles float around its speech bubbles. It lives in a well. The kannagi were sacrificed into a water-filled chasm. Given that we are in the Red House itself, I am very confident when I say the Entity is a part of all this. (Very obvious conclusion, I know, lol.)
Anyway, I have to imagine these people are similar to Kou in that they were lured to the Red House by Amane. What the victims have in common I'm not sure... however given the fact that Kou was drawn here after being possessed by "Tsukasa-kun" it wouldn't surprise me if these people also came into contact with Tsukasa-kun.
But if that is the case that is extremely concerning... are there a bunch of missing person cases linked to people from Kamome Academy? Or does Tsukasa-kun have a farther reach than we thought?
Let's also remember Amane's age. If I remember correctly the latest we've seen him alive was as a teacher spreading rumors in 1983. It seems like he died that year, or soon after anyway, given his relatively young appearance in Chapter 118.
This could mean he's been at this forrr... more than 30 years?! With over 10 victims at that. It's not too crazy then if he's been getting away with it and that people think the missing person cases are unrelated...especially since the perpetrator, Yugi Amane, is probably considered dead...
One thing I found interesting is some of the victims are rather tall. And some rather short. Either this is a stylistic choice or the victims are all ages. Kind of mysterious! It's hard to imagine elementary schoolers being connected to Kamome Academy, for example, and these beings are really quite short...
Tumblr media
They are very vaguely defined though so maybe it's not important. I mean, they don't even have legs.
Regardless, it's at least safe to assume the victims are all from the city of Kamome. Which isn't too weird considering the Red House from the old timeline also had many victims from Kamome.
Anyway, as I was saying earlier the victims are submerged in water which is famously linked to the Entity. I really don't think it's too crazy if these were victims sacrificed to the Entity in order to grant a wish. The Red House has always been a wish-fulfilling house, after all; from when Tsukasa sacrificed animals to it to give presents to Amane, to when Tsukasa asked Kou if he would sacrifice Nene to get his mom back.
Tumblr media
It would be strange if the Red House of the new timeline didn't have anything to do with wishes! But that's time paradoxes for you I suppose.
Much to think about...I'm sure I'm overlooking something obvious right now. But I really loved the chapter! Threw a big curveball at me with Amane having a hole for a face. It tickles me that the twins still resemble each other so much, despite the age difference.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really curious about the ways in which they are different though... and how much of their true selves remain... hmm... still kinda hoping we might find Tsukasa in the Red House!!! Feels wrong without him tbh. Thanks for the ask!!

thoughts on the new chapter?
Tumblr media
*salt about tbhk incoming* :')))
I already announced it on instagram but my interest in tbhk have dropped drastically since some time and I was gonna give the manga the benefit of the doubt because chap 104 was okay Ig?
Chapter 105 just showed everything I have been not liking about the writing in tbhk in one chapter youhou
let's go on the positive first!
I adore class 1-A I would die for them
Tumblr media
The pages in black and white were cool, the art is perfect as always. Maybe seeing an Akane and Hanako team up would be fire af but with Teru here I doubt it so this is a tiny hope I will put in hell with everything else for now.
Tumblr media
I love you Kou and Mistuba
Yokoo is rocking this outfit too. I like the fact that the clock being destroyed just stops everything and everyone's time (like a certain character but who has a limit *COUGHS* probably for this reason Ig)
Tumblr media
them
Idk if I am strong enough to go on a full explanation on why my interest dropped since some chapters, this didn't start on this one, this one was just the last straw. I will just show the most obvious choices that I don't like ( my opinion btw this is just the feeling I have while reading, take this with a BIG grain of salt)
I've been reading tbhk for 4 years and I am tired of waiting for stuff the author litteraly won't do anything about and just stay in their comfort zone
No repercussions on the mcs for some choices they made, no repercussions on wounds/stuff that happened which should have need time to heal for the characters or for them to grow, giving us always the same team up so no room for real character/relationship development beside the obvious (and with how slow Hanako and Nene have been going honestly making the same characters always interact doesn't help at all apparently L O L), BIG difference of pacing for characters growth, making the story take always the same route with the same characters being kidnapped and the same ones doing the savings, putting characters in an arc they have no reason to be part of so just making them stand in the background like a caricature of themselves, making characters 'mysterious' or forgetting their character development just to use them as some sort of deus ex machina, and the worst of all:
Making Nene just a reason for Hanako to react and nothing else. No character development for her, no reason for her to be in some scenes, this is just sad to watch at this point. Aoi had this problem at the beginning of the manga for Akane mostly for comedic reason and they had growth, seeing they are putting Nene in this position after more than 100 chapters and her being the mc is just awful.
I honestly just want more diversity in the choices they are making in their writing, and the last chapter proves me that either it will come in a long time or it never will.
At least the art is pretty, and the worst part is that I KNOW AidaIro knows how use setup, they know how to write really good stuff and good characters, complex stories, and it's GOOD. So seeing this in the recent chapters just makes me even more tired x'))
Once again, my opinion, but the way Nene and Aoi are treated in the manga makes me wanna explode. AidaIro are capable of writing good female characters (thank you Mei and Sumire for being perfect from start to end), Aoi and Nene had wonderful time too, so idk why all of this is happening rn tbh. It's just sad.
Maybe the brainrot will come back, I still love the characters, but I really need to take a break from the fandom anyways (not gonna expand on this but oh boy how annoying a part of the fandom is, a lot of people are the sweetest but a part makes me wanna explode, I've been more than 3 years here and I think that the most I can take at this point)
ANYWAYS :DDD idk what I will do with this account for now ^^ I will probably still rb some stuff or post old tbhk doodles I never finished :00 Idk what I wanna draw now probably ocs stuff so I won't post them here I think ^^ I hope everyone is alright yay

What is your theory on how you think the manga will end? And how many chapters do you think the manga will have? Kind of cliché questions, but I think you must have an interesting theory 😁
It feels like peeling my body apart whenever I try to think about it … but I guess I feel like we have so much more story left to go. I think we've only just begun, with a few things...
I think we are going to go all around the bend, for one thing. Nene-chan has only just come to terms with loving Amane, in the Far Shore arc, but I don't think that is the 'endgame'…. I mean, it can't be, we have much left to learn and do, so that already happening makes me feel like "my God …" ... I do not think HanaNene, alone, is the story.
Somehow, I think Amane and Nene-chan will have to work together to try to save Tsukasa, eventually.... first-- Tsukasa and Nene-chan working to save Amane ... and then , there's someone left behind. the one whos fate was never to live, the one who has never had a wish for his future…
I kind of think of the structure of the entire series as a visual novel, where you're continuously trying different combinations and actions to get the ending you want, haha. Iro-sensei spent so long writing their VNs, I think that's how the mind works ... and why 'timelines' is the structure of JSHK.
I see the series as it is as… maybe … Tsukasa trying to use Nene-chan to unEarth Amane's wishes, dreams… and to try to open a new future for them...? To get Amane to refuse hopelessness?
If I think about Tsukasa … I feel like just growing up with Amane really was "all he ever wanted"; but, I think, Nene-chan would probably find that sad. That he wouldn't imagine anything more … maybe between Amane and Tsukasa, they couldn't figure out 'more'. Both always waiting for the other to confess to something, to beg the other to stay forever. I think Nene-chan has the hope inside of her heart to want to save both of the Yugi … and ah, to understand that saving one, has to mean reaching out to both, refusing to leave any behind.
I think the crux of the manga is something like 'hopefulness', believing in something to be better, wanting something better....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
which feels like it ties well into rumors; belief in something can effect its reality. Ties well into the Minamoto's dogma, as well. Lots of rules and systems in place, which are most challenged by different people from different walks-- kaii and human-- coming together to dismantle them.
I think the way rumors work for kaii, is perfectly relatable to how rumors work to living humans, too ... effecting your reality, your life, how you're seen-- and then, in cases like the Minamoto legacy, how your story is told, what you become, etc. You 'are' what people think of you. Ties in to Tsukasa, of course, whos mom rejected his humanity, while his brother embraced it.
Nene-chan, our main character, really exemplifies this philosophy of hopefulness....
Tumblr media
secondarily, Kou....
Tumblr media
while Amane exemplifies the polar opposite; hopelessness, resignation....
Tumblr media
secondarily, Mitsuba
Tumblr media
I suppose in some way, I see Tsukasa as a little bit of both ...
wishes, possibility, destruction, fate....
I think, we've spent a lot of time learning more and more about Amane ... we're about to finally see some more of young Tsukasa, maybe talk to him more.
I think Nene-chan needs to find a way around both the Yugi's ways of thinking ...
I kind of ... hope for an entire total timeline reset, something crazy like that, haha. Maybe Nene-chan CAN change the very laws of this world ... through the unlikely union of kaii, human, and God together. As a trifecta, I think Tsukasa, Nene-chan, Amane have everything the world has never planned to see united towards a goal ...
I've also thought of crazy but fun things, like Tsukasa and Nene-chan becoming one person as some kind of hack lol ? or both of the Yugi becoming one person... in any case, I think Nene-chan understanding she loves them both, and Amane understanding he loves both Nene-chan and Tsukasa, are essential for any ending. I don't think Amane will ever have to give up one for the other ... I don't think he ever WOULD. And I don't think Nene-chan would, either!!! Refusing compromises seems essential, since Picture Perfect was already about saying 'no' to a compromise.... we can't leave anyone behind, or give up on someone we want to be in our future.
Tumblr media
I don't think my brain works as crazy as Iro-sensei's lol, the world is so vast, but I think the set-up for everything is already completely there... SOMEWHERE....!!!!

My thoughts on volume 14
Volume 14 came into my hands yesterday.
I don't hate Nene. I like her and I know she loves Hanako but I can't ship them and I have no idea if I'll ever ship again. It's impossible at the moment. I like Nene in the end, but that doesn't mean I have forgiven her for all her actions. It is not and 100% will not be, for most things my opinion about her actions shares hasn't changed, I think the same. Well, but she's not such a bad person, I felt sorry for her because her legs were insulted by the villagers probably 5 times and she was punched in the stomach for disobeying "her" nuptials. I think AidaIro is overdoing it with insulting her legs, after all, her legs are fine, and this is 14 vol it was just annoying already. So is Mitsuba insulting Hanako and Kou,Nene in chapters 102 & 103. Too bad the AidaIro can't say anything bad about their "cute" Sakura who destroys other people's lives.
Feelings of hatred haven't changed for Teru, in fact it has strengthened my feelings. Teru is a liar because he knew full well that Akane's family was a family for sacrifice, but he missed the fact that his "wonderful" disgusting family was the one who destroyed the lives of poor girls and sacrificed them and then had fun, he missed it very effectively saying that "one of the clans" then he knows what family is responsible for sacrificing these girls. His disgusting words that the family had "privileges", what privileges Teru? As far as I know, only Sumire accepted her fate, even though she didn't want to die, but the girls had broken legs, gouged out eyes. Sumire had the contempt of the villagers, these are your "privileges"?. He disgusted me by making no.6 a martyr who "still wants to protect these lands", and Hanako the worst who wants to unleash evil. Teru takes pity on such a poor no.6 who will later make holes in him.lol. How funny and ironic. Teru considers himself an exorcist who said that no matter what the supernatural reason is, you have to kill them, but his family is cool, they could sacrifice poor girls, and when they rebelled, they were treated really badly. Hypocrisy, superiority over everyone and everything is allowed to them. This family does not change and Teru shows it effectively, not only is he a jerk, a loser and a sadist who loves to abuse supernaturals and kill them, he is also a hypocrite. Since Teru knows so much about it and knows that Akane's powers will be needed soon, he knows what his family did to the sacrificed girls and how they were treated. I won't be fooled and he showed that he knows more than he says (Of course, I've known about it for a long time, in this volume he finally confirmed my thoughts). I have no idea if my feelings for Teru will ever change.
Fun fact, since Nene's wish didn't matter at all that Hanako sacrificed Aoi, then why is the scene where Nene makes a wish to Hanako in the p.p arc shown in the trailer for the next volume, and then the scene where Hanako says "I granted your wish Yashiro". Yes, her wish had no influence on her friend's sacrifice, after all, AidaIro clearly underlined it, and no, wait.
Tumblr media
It's her fault.I will always blame Nene more than ever Hanako.
I was right to blame Nene for this. Thank you AidaIro,to finally confirm what was known from the beginning.

"One of my favorite experiences watching a show was the first time that I watched Toilet Bound Hanako Kun. Something about these lovable characters, unique design, memorable environment, and relationships between everyone in the show brought me into this fandom. There was one character to me that stood out from all the rest." (Me.)
Over the course of the last year, I've fallen in love with several anime series that stood out amongst the rest as a cut above. One of the first ones that I found early last year was a ghost story Toilet Bound Hanako Kun. This edit has been in my drafts since last October since I thought I had an idea for Halloween but then I got of course really freaking busy with school. I decided today that I'm going to clean out my drafts and make two more edits because I feel like it after yesterday's antics. I also just wanted to thank everyone that stuck up for me. The three people that did are some of my favorite friends that I have friends so it means a ton to me.
There are a ton of characters in TBHK that are absolutely amazing but my personal favorite for comfort characters was hands down Kou Minamoto. I absolutely adored Kou and his general personality of goofiness and kindness. He was just so open and genuinely caring towards everyone on the team up of him, Hanako, and Nene. They became one of my favorite trios in anime just watching them defeat the ghost of the week. All of their interactions were just extremely entertaining.
But my favorite arc with Kou, the reason that he became my ultimate favorite character in this show it was his arc with Mitsuba. His story of how he became friends with the ghost of his former classmate, their continual bickering, but I saw Kou growing as a character. He was learning that he didn't have to exterminate every single ghost. That he could be friends with the ghost that had come into his life and help him live out his final wishes that he had- I'm getting over emotional just thinking about this story arc. It was such a beautiful story of friendship and loss of friendship right as Kou was just starting to become really truly happy.
Kou's bond with Mitsuba was just one that really hit me hard. It was a tragic story of friendship and what losing that can do to a person. Mitsuba never truly had friends when he was alive. His first friend that he truly ever had that was genuine and true was Kou. Kou with his loudness, boisterous nature, big heart, and kind nature. He was willing to do whatever it took to protect his friend that he had made even though it was inevitable. Watching Mitsuba come back and getting that hope that maybe, just maybe things could work out between them. But that is the tragedy of this show, nothing really ever works out the way that you want it to.
But through losing Mitsuba, Kou grew up. He stopped jumping headfirst into every situation and he learned that sometimes keeping a cool and level head is the most important thing. He still is an absolute goofball but he had to learn that there was a time and a place to be goofy and sometimes the need to be emotionally mature and serious was more important.
Kou became one of my favorite comfort characters in all of anime. I loved his journey, the way that he grew emotionally, his quirky antics and his sense of humor as well as the fact that he was just such an emotional core to the rest of this show as well as the people that watch it. I'm so glad that I watched this show because it became one of my all time favorites. Learning more about what happens to them almost always wrecks my heart but it's such a beautiful way of doing so.

do you think m1tsuk0u will ever actually work out?
I'm not sure what "work out" means .... I think they will continue to have an arc that directly involves the other, and I think that arc will ultimately have a thesis/point of resolution of some kind, pertaining to their complexes. They are involved with one another for a reason. The answer to their problems must be each other, or they wouldn't be here.
If you're asking more like, "will they reach stability/comfort with each other?" I have no idea, really! Their dynamic is very odd to me-- it's very confrontational from the get-go, and there is no aspect of the dynamic which aims to repair or work on that? I don't know if Kou is eventually meant to learn how to be tender, or express himself earnestly ... because unlike HanaNene, nobody is actively working the other down in that manner. Though moments of crushing honesty are par the course for JSHK, happened for Akane/Aoi, Sumire/Hakubo, so, surely we'll hear one or the other say something true....
The situation between them is about "trust"; Mitsuba has never really trusted anyone (he is so reluctant towards everyone and everything), and Kou is never trusted with anything (too immature, too useless). Their arc will surely eventually have them trusting each other, crucially!
If you're asking more like "will they form a traditional romantic relationship" I have honest to God no idea, I am out of touch with modern shounen or what's possible in a gfantasy story... from my own history (I am 30 now & I read a lot of shounen en mass at like, 15) I'd be like, "it's not really that kind of manga", I would not expect a shounen I'm reading to suddenly have maintext boy kissing boy relationship 100+ch in. I would expect it to stay alluded to and teased but always left up to interpretation.
For instance. I think the Yugi are entirely, a real thing, I think Amane was in love with his brother. But I THINK the extent of that 'romance' will always be under the ambiguity of familial love (I mean, I think that's WHY they're family...), and the metaphor of murder/consumption, the act of sublimation of becoming a yorishiro, and I really don't think it is a "kiss and confess" situation so to speak (and yet, it's important Amane confront his feelings towards his brother! It's important Nene-chan figure out those feelings, to understand Hanako!). There will always be metaphors and abstraction, probably, but those metaphors and abstraction Will Be Canon. I like the poetics of such things anyway, and I don't really care about conventional things ... and with Sumire/Hakubo's consumption being very vividly a symbol of indulgence/consummation/'taking', the language is already set-up for the Yugi. Eat someone, make them yours. Mitsuba and Kou have also touched on consumption, where does that climax? Kou eats Mitsuba in the Ghost Hotel AU. What does that mean? I have no idea. Lol.
I think one will have a better time thinking in terms of "the story will inevitably and absolutely always feature these two, who are important to one another's psyche" and not waiting on things as head-of-a-pin specific as like, relationships coming to pass. When I see modern fandomers gunning for canon dating or kissing, they seem constantly miserable or angry ... ? but the foreign fandoms are doing what I've always done, and, they are just hollaring about whatever insane shit is happening in canon and engaging in analyzing the meaning and symbols present in those actions. I do not see AmaTsu's hinging on "I hope they kiss", rather they memetically repeat lines in canon like "let's do it right." or obsessively discuss the details of the shinjuu, like, "Amane doesn't seem like the biting type, so do you think he licked or sucked on Tsukasa's heart after killing him?" and the satisfaction and passion in those conversations is unbearable, its like the sun burning brightly. And this to me is shipping on the level the manga wants you to, engaging with its text, what it values, what it wants you to think about.
