(the last time I was reading about brothers, or people made to be like brothers, as co-rulers, it was with Tiberius. and that goes about as well as you expect it to lmao)

in a better timeline where theo is actually a character and not just a plot device he and rakiel develop this weird and confusing dynamic where rakiel is still very clearly theo's older brother except for those moments where his inner ahjussi comes out and he parents theo more than his father ever did and he slowly starts taking asterion's place as theo's father figure.

neither of them really notice because 1) lee han was an only child and he's not really that aware of what is or isn't normal sibling behavior and he doesn't really care either he just sees theo craving approval and being lowkey passively suicidal and goes "is anyone gonna take care of that" and then doesn't wait for an answer before doing it himself and 2) because theo has been neglected his entire life and doesn't recognize what rakiel is doing as 'parenting' because, well, asterion never did that with him so his first experience with that kind of care and treatment is from rakiel so he automatically files it as 'hyung behavior'. so none of them actually realize when their dynamic blurs the line between siblings and parent-child.

but asterion does. just... way too late. when he's already lost his chance with not one, but both of his children. when one son is forever out of his reach and the other has filled what should've been his place with someone else. only then does he realize what his neglect and putting his title as emperor above that of father has cost him. when there's nothing he can do about it.

he wanted his sons to grow up without needing him. and they did. they don't need him anymore. and he didn't realize how terrible of a thing that was until it was far too late to fix it.

Now these are some serious thoughts that I'm having, and I'm also having them for specific reasons that I'll note at the end of this post (or its own separate one, we'll see):

— I don't see how Jing Yuan wouldn't know about the deal that Jingliu made (which I still firmly believe to have been with Lan), because otherwise I don't see how he would blindly trust her to go about the Luofu. Because ultimately, he could trust her as much as he wants to because of their past, but he also witnessed how she lost all control, and subsequently fell to the mara. The trust in this scenario isn't in her, it's in whatever it is that’s restraining the mara. — On that note, I don't see how he would trust anything tied to that, unless it was tied to someone or something that he trusts: Lan. Yes, Jing Yuan himself is another reason why I believe it's the Lan, the Aeon that opposes Yaoshi. — Keeping this in mind, it makes this final sentence to Jingliu extra interesting in my opinion: 'Then I will see this gamble through.'

On that note, as a treat to myself because I'm so close to signing my lease, and because I desperately crave to write the male muse in this franchise that I love the very most (listen, I'm happy to see my two big favorites in Genshin written well, but I just want to write my actual male favorite in HSR myself as well on top of seeing great portrayals)— no matter how popular he too, is. Jing Yuan, welcome home.

No, but seriously, can you imagine how utterly surreal it is to be Song Taewon and have two of the most unhinged people on the planet both decide to become intensely invested in your life and health after knowing you for like five seconds? One of them uses aggressive mob tactics to try and get you to let them chauffeur you around, the other is a little guy you could crush with your pinky on accident who hunts you down in the middle of a pit of monsters with a packed lunch convinced you will starve if he doesn’t personally feed you. You have to play an intense game of de-escalation at literally all times to keep this same random guy from calling and yelling at your boss about your sleep schedule, and this is still an improvement on that time you barely convinced him it wasn’t necessary to utterly annihilate your place of work to get you more vacation time. The other one has probably historically attempted to set your closet and/or you yourself on fire so he can buy you clothes.

You just want to live your corporate slave life and resist the dark yearnings of your soul in PEACE but instead you’re having to dodge two very powerful men who both desperately want to take care of you.

It had been Mr. Tankhun’s idea for all his bodyguards to get tattoos. Pete didn’t have a strong opinion on the issue so he had never objected (he couldn’t have, even if he had wanted to). Mr. Tankhun had asked for the tattoos to be somewhere visible on their bodies but Pete had chosen to have it just above his hip, a phrase he had once found in a book that had belonged to his grandmother. He had found the phrase funny, the irony of it. Mr. Tankhun hadn't been pleased with the position of the tattoo but he had liked the end result, so he hadn’t been too obnoxious about it. He had still made Pete wear crop tops for a month whenever they would have a K-drama marathon though. Pete hadn’t objected to that, either.

The tattoo now felt like it was burning his skin, punishing him for being a hypocrite. (Snippet from Trust is a fragile thing) 2) He realized once he calmed down that Pete never said that everything was going to be ok, a common phrase thrown at people like him. No legacy is so rich as honesty, huh? Vegas could see the appeal now. He preferred it. He was so sick of lies. (Snippet from Dead End) 3)

He didn't have to anymore. (Snippet from the things you can(not) change) 5) I find it fascinating how it works with Pete so well, despite Daemi being oblivious to its true meaning. I also find the fact that it works for Pete no matter how you interpret the phrase, equally fascinating.

You can take it literally and connect it with Pete's job; how he's honest about the violence he inflicts, the activity he's enacting for the Theerapanyakuls, how he's accepted the nature of it, how "there are no heroes or villains in this world" and so on. You can add his loyalty in there too and make it even juicier.

You can also take it ironically and connect it with Pete as a person; how he's not actually honest - he's not open about himself, his desires, his feelings - so with this, it's like he's admitting that he has no legacy. It encapsulates his lack of personhood and it's fucking brilliant. (Snippet from a post I made about it) 6)

Muireann burst into the doors, her eyes darted around the room for the tell tale blue of the turncoat Crystal Braves before she lowered her grimoire. Her carbuncle bounded out of its hiding place in her winter robe, weaving between her legs as she approached Haurchefant’s desk. There was something off about her. Her breath too quick, her eyes too frantic, and a tremor in her entire body that was different to the shaking when the chill cut through her.

“Muireann, my dear, whatever happened?”

“B-bad. I’ was too m-mu-uch.”

“Let’s get you somewhere warmer.” He quickly ushered her into the antechamber excusing the guard inside the door.

“Now then, let’s get this damp coat off you so you can – ” Haurchefant stopped easing the coat from her shoulders when he saw the dim purple-white light coming from her back. The delicate fractal wings had snaked their way up over her shoulders and partway up her neck, crackling levin still dancing under her skin.

“Muireann…should I be concerned that you’re glowing?” Haurchefant’s tone was measured, not entirely devoid of his usual cheery tone but there was a stiffness to it.

“’s Ram-mu-muh. I couldn’t – he’s next on the list. But I couldn’t sum-um-mon an egi. We had everything right! I even snuck into the Sylphlands to make sure I had the requisite aether before heading to Mor-r Dhona…it’s never…it’s never not worked before. I did everything right!”

Her voice was stopping and starting with the pulses of levin under her skin – he could feel it under his fingertips – just how much lightning aether had she taken in that it was affecting her this badly even after expelling some of it? He was suddenly very relieved that she had maintained composure until they were alone – with her battle against Shiva well known, it would not do to have her seen to be open to manipulation of any sort by the primals she had slain.

It was proving difficult to secure the requisite paperwork for the four remaining Scions with the accusations of regicide. If one of their biggest claims in their favour were to be twisted into an accusation of heresy? Haurchefant squeezed Muireann close against his chest. It would not do to think of it.

She latched onto him, taking steadying breaths to bring her vibrating body back fully under her control, “I did everything right…and it still didn’t work. If I can’t do this, Haurchefant, what if – ”

He gently cut her worries short by cupping her face in his hands. He could feel the crackle of levin at his fingertips even through the leather of his gauntlets.

“My dear, I have every confidence that you will find the solutions – as you have always done. And with such staunch allies as these researchers you’ve described I pity any who would cross you once you have resolved your current predicament.”

“If the Archbishop doesn’t hurry up and stamp or sign whatever papers are outstanding he just might jump to the top of the list.”

“That, my darling, is the exact kind of rumour-starting threat that could delay this whole ordeal even further. Much as I would not object to you staying here longer for entirely selfish reasons, it is much safer in Ishgard proper.” Haurchefant punctuated the sentence by gently kissing her forehead.

“I don’t do threats, dear, only promises.”
