i was tagged by @minnarr to list my 5 favorite fics i've written! it's actually very funny to me, because i saw one of these posts yesterday from a writer i like very much who i've followed for ages, and then i got tagged today, and i realized the connecting thread is literally just one person in between. anyway!

note: in case you haven't looked closely at my ao3 page (or. not closely tbh. to my eternal regret, it's still my top fandom), i used to write hockey rpf. i don't anymore, because i think hockey and especially the nhl is morally bankrupt and actively harmful, and i no longer feel comfortable writing about nhl players or sharing fic about them. this is all to say: 1, i actually don't think i've explicitly said that before and it's important to me, and 2, i will not mention any fics from this fandom.

LUCKILY, i've somehow???? written a lot????? since then????? this continues to baffle me. how did i get here. (🎶letting the days go by🎶) (if you think, gee, did sky have trouble picking 5 fics? it has been fully half an hour and i'm still at 11 fics. the lengths i go to for tumblr posts that don't matter.) (have now picked fics, didn't take much longer bc i decided to try and go for a wide spread of fandoms, and also to pick the ones in that 11-fic list that had the lowest kudos lol)

give thanks to the broken bones. this is a batfam fic in which bruce wayne gets kidnapped as a civilian and dick grayson comes to rescue him. i have some defensive feelings about this and about the way dick and bruce's relationship is written here, but i often feel like i'm not great at writing complicated relationships that aren't just fluffy, and i feel like i nailed it here. also: gen fics.

tired of waiting for tomorrow to come. another batfam fic! this one a character study of sorts about jason todd and also my love letter about bruce springsteen's music. it's one of the most self-indulgent fics i've ever written and i'm really satisfied with it, even tho there are definitely things i wish i'd done differently too. i wrote a dvd commentary companion too so if you want Even More Of My Thoughts about it, they are on ao3 :D

daydreamers please wake up. there are goddamn NINE fics for this fucking fandom and mine is the LONGEST??? this is a fic for another dc comic, Far Sector, written by nk jemisin and drawn by jamal campbell. i loved far sector, i think it's gorgeous and fun and a cool sci fi story with very fun characters, and so when i had a chance to write a fic for it for yuletide, i was DELIGHTED. and then i realized i had to figure out how to write horror for the first time. it was a lot of work and i think it turned out really well.

don't let the stars get you down. this is a fic for the untamed, and it's jiang yanli and jin zixuan. i have now written TWO platonic marriage fics for the untamed, and i'm personally thrilled about this fact. this one is shorter but also, in some ways, more interesting to me. i really love fics that dig into jyl and what she's doing and thinking and i haven't written as many as i'd like, but that is very much what this fic is. also i just have so much love and affection in my heart for the idea of two people being married and having a kid while not being In Love and in fact having sex with and falling in love with other people.

you're a curious one. this is a word of honor fic, and it is, of course, hanwenzhou. so, to be clear, if you count shl/tyk/qy together, it's CLEARLY my second most written fandom. and yet it ended up with only one representative on this list, partially because i have more kudos in this fandom lol. but that said, if i was only gonna pick one, it had to be REALLY on brand, and this fic is PEAK sky is on her bullshit. inspired by a critical role scene with sexy dangerous vampire attacks. the whole fic is building tension that never quite resolves bc building the tension is way more fun to me than writing sex scenes usually. spoiler: everything is actually fine and there's a happy resolution. this concept still lives in my head rent free.

1. it depends, really! some fics I write solely as a one-shot and they turn into multi-chapter, others I specifically write so that they can become a series!

2. when it comes to multi-chapter fic, I do have a little bit of a plan in mind for them; I don't plan them in GREAT detail, but I will have, like, a list of ideas that I want within the chapters!

3. have a cigarette and a bit of a think. ask @tokillamockingbird427 about something and get an idea (specific only to fics w more than one chapter and/or series fics dhfkskfk). have another cigarette. start writing and realise I don't like the idea. start again. have another cigarette and realise what I wanted.

4. p much everywhere! some fics have been inspired by real emotions and events, others come from a random idea that popped into my head - most descriptions of woodland and rural areas come from when I've been out for a walk. one fic I'm working on atm (which is a COD WW2 fic, for context) was inspired by the Chasseurs Adrennais and what they did. so it can come from everywhere!

5. most of them it's after! sometimes it comes from a particular theme or image within the fic (Rabbits), others come from a line said within it (Blackbird), and then some it comes from just a random thought I have whilst writing (The Good Captain).

6. oh, definitely. I tend to like be very explicit with the cost of war and how horrific warfare itself is; "war is Hell" is very much a big pattern for me lmfao

7. first person POV is one of them, but most of it is written down in my rules.

8. I wish Christmas Truce and Fields of Verdun had gotten more response, same w 1916 and The Attack of the Dead Men

9. it's definitely Love, Hate, Sex, Pain lmfaooooo @tokillamockingbird427 was there for the entire ride and can probably attest to the fact that it's literally just... there's so much going on 💀💀 Crowley and Lt's entire dynamic is chaotic, let alone the Everything Lt Does fjfkskfkskg

10. my most favourite is being able to do stuff like major character death and getting experimental when describing warfare to be as horrific as it is in reality - being able to try and make it as gutwrenching as possible is my favourite.

my least favourite is probably waiting for feedback tbh; I don't like to sit around lmfao

I've got favourites per fandom, but that's mostly to do w me tbh fjfkskfkskg like Bane and Bruce Wayne (from the Nolan films) are my favourites for DC bc I loved the Nolan trilogy as a kid and love it even more today (don't tell me you wouldn't be swayed by a communist w big titties saying "we need to bomb the city to get rid of corruption and capitalism". we all would.)

1. How many works do you have on A03?

Jeez, should I consider both of my accounts? Let's do it, why not.

I have 12 fics in total. 7 for Tennis RPF and 5 for the DC Universe.

2. What's your total A03 word count?

37,211 words combined. Ngl, I thought it would be less than that as there are only two multi-chaptered fics and the rest are one-shots. Hopefully, I'll add some more words in the upcoming months :)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Currently, I only write Tennis RPF. I've been toying with a few ideas for the Good Omens fandom, but I haven't opened a new doc yet. And I used to write for the DC Universe, but I haven't done that in ages.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

(I’m gonna keep this Tennis RPF only bc this blog is tennis themed)

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes yes yes! At least I try to. Although more often than not I get the notification, reply in my head, then forget to actually write back, and I'm too embarrassed to answer if more than a week has gone by… so apologies for that. That doesn't mean I don’t appreciate every single comment I have ever gotten, they always make my day in fact.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Mmh… perhaps Moonlight in Paris. It's not angst per se but it does have an overall sense of uncertainty.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Strawberry & Dulce de Leche, definitely. Rafa's joy at the possibility of Roger going to his birthday party is everything.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, thankfully. I’m glad I haven't unlocked that side of fandom yet.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do, but I consider myself a newbie at it (smut writers, pls teach me your ways).

Generally speaking, I prefer it when smut has a little plot. It doesn't have to be anything complicated or serious, I just need a bit of a story behind what's happening for it to feel more organic. I also like it when the focus is on the emotional aspect of it, though descriptive can be nice as well. And I don't mind wordy smut as longs as it doesn't mess with the flow.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Nope, and I'm not a big fan of those tbh

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Story time! Yes 💀 Although it wasn't the whole thing, just a fragment. The fic in question was None but the Lonely Heart for the DCEU. And I only found out bc a lovely person left a comment on my fic, letting me know what had happened and the link to the other fic. I checked and the writer had indeed literally copied and pasted one of my scenes, they'd just changed the names of the characters. So I reached out to the AO3 team and they took care of everything.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

No

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No. Stef and I had an idea for a Fedal fic, but who knows if we'll ever get to actually write it lol

14. What's your all time favourite ship?

I don't think I have one, really. I would say my main ones/the ones I keep coming back to are Fedal (Roger Federer/Rafael Nadal) and Superbat (Superman/Batman). Though right now I've been reading almost exclusively Ineffable Husbands (Aziraphale/Crowley), so it mostly depends on my hyperfixation at the time

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Oof, that might be a Superbat (long) fic set post BvS, where resurrected Clark has lost his powers (and the sun seems to actually make him sick now), so Bruce helps him to get back on his feet and of course they fall in love in the process. I have the whole thing outlined, sheets of dialogues and a couple of scenes already fleshed out, but I took a break from the fandom bc it was draining me out. Idk, maybe one day I'll get back to it. I mean, never say never and all that, but it's looking highly improbable right now

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm good at setting the tone of scenes, be it fluffy, angsty, whatever.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I tend to write in long, long sentences. Seriously, you should see my drafts, sometimes a whole paragraph can be a single sentence. I don't know if it's due to my Spanish hard-wired brain or what, but I’m working on breaking things up a bit more.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I love it! But you need to make sure readers will still get the message through context, so I think it's best to stick to single words and/or common phrases. Unless, of course, you want to leave your character (and thus your readers) feeling confused.

I do it often when I’m writing Rafa and it's part of the reason I love writing him so much.

20. Favourite fic you've written?

Tough question… can I say an unpublished one? I have this sort of introspection/character study of Domi, his struggles coming back on tour after the wrist injury and dealing with all the ups and downs. There's not a story to it per se, like I'm not trying to get him from A to B. It's just a dive into his mind, where it gets kinda dark real quick, and it's unlike what I usually go for in tennis fics (fluff), so I've been enjoying the challenge of getting out of my comfort zone there

this question tickles me bc i'm almost always listening to music. short answer yes i do, music is my one and only and i have it on alllll the time <3 what i listen to when i write varies though! usually i try to match the vibe to what i want to write (so upbeat, lovey-dovey music for fluff, and more ballad-y stuff for my more emotional pieces) but not always. sometimes i just put something on and hope for the best HJKDSHKDS

as for my current listening! i am not decisive enough to list just one so i made a little playlist. (if you listen pls lemme know if you like any of it :) i LOVEEEE talking about music it is my favorite activity)

🌞 Do you have a preferred time of day to write?

i do most of my writing at night! i do most Everything at night tbh. i'm trying to switch it up though- fixing my sleep schedule one little bit at a time.

beyond that!! idk if this will ever see the light of day, but i have been trying to figure out cass! i've never successfully written her (but neither have a lot of canon dc writers. so.) i want to, though! i love her to pieces and think she could be a lot of fun- i just want to do her justice.

i talked about this in this post, but it's really important to me to get characterizations right. i get straight up intimidated by every character i write- even jason! he scares the shit out of me the moment i have to write any sort of real emotion from him, bc he's a complex character. my own emotional responses are usually pretty straightforward, so writing characters with more complex backstories like him or cass is a challenge! one i take seriously, one i try to handle with care.

🌿how does creating make you feel?

Hm gor me it’s Not how creating makes me feel, rather, it’s how I feel that directs me to create. Writing was not a form of art I tried my hand at until very late but when I do, it’s usually an attempt to get things out, rip the bandaid off, write something on a paper and burn it afterwards, whisper a secret into the hollow of an old tree..: you get the gist.

What have the actual idea for this is my wide (lol) past of priv twt accounts. I realized tweeting a thought that ate me from the inside often helped to get it out of my mind so It’d not repeat inside my brain like those old bouncing windows logo sleep mode computer screen savers lmao. But yeah Most of the time the creating process comes from numbness or emotions on the negative spectrum- as sad as this might sound.
