I'm sorry but... this is so fucking weird man...
When it comes to straight ships, this never happens. Even if the characters are not dating, the story makes it clear that there is romantic chemistry going on, so no one needs to point out episodes on twitter.
And i know what y'all are gonna say, harlivy is endgame, you see chemistry beyween them, they're not together yet bc they're developing as characters blah blah blah...
And i get that but i also see that there's no clear confirmation in the show that they like women (but more than a few mentions that they do like men), every "romantic moment" between them can pass as a bff thing (bc they keep calling each other best friends) and ivy has a bf (hopefully not for long tho).
So here's the thing: they need to develop the characters and build up the chemistry, sure. We have to wait for that. I know.
They don't need to buit up being lgbt tho? That's not a big plot twist or revelation, it's info that can be mentioned casually. They don't need to avoid actual flirting (and by actual flirting i mean something that doesn't end up with harly and ivy refering to each other as gal pals). That's something authors use all the time and it helps to build chemistry, bc it reveals the attraction between the characters. How many times have you seen straight characters go as far as hooking up before they officially become a couple? So the writers really don't need to downplay attraction, but they do.
So yeah that worries me a lot. When you want something to be part of your story, you put it in the story, not on twitter.
"Oh but the producers confirmed-" yeah i know. And disney announced like seven lgbt characters already and they were all a pathetic excuse of a maketing strategy. And that's what i fear will happen to harlivy.
Cuz if they have to point out the episodes on twitter, it seems like the script doesn't hold up on its on tbh. Dc never needed to announce that batman and catwoman liked each other.
Sorry for the long post, but if we look at the recent history of lgbt characters in media, producers announcing things on social media is usually a red flag, not a positive thing.
Here is something gay
