Appreciation For MLP Generation 5🦄💗
Tumblr media
By the time My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic ended, I pretty much expected there to be another generation by the next decade and it mainly helped with there being leaks of concept art from 2018. Originally, it was going to be a reboot of G4 with The Mane Six meeting each other all over again (and Twilight being an Earth Pony, Fluttershy being a Unicorn, Pinkie Pie being a Pegasus) similar to the second generation of Monster High and I'm so glad they didn't go that route. After 10 years, I didn't need to see these ponies become friends again after seeing them grow for NINE seasons! In 2021, I saw leaked images of the upcoming G5 movie (the one with Sunny, Izzy, and the iconic tennis ball) and I was immediately taken in by the art style. I was even more intrigued when I found out that an MLP fan artist (Imalou) was working on the movie too! As soon as My Little Pony: A New Generation arrived at Netflix, I had such a good time with it. It was a great introduction to G5's main characters, I enjoyed the story, and I loved all the songs. The animation was great too considering it was the first time MLP went fully CGI (unless if we count animation for commercials, the Hello, Pinkie Pie! mini series, or any other 2-3 minute animated shorts).
Nearly a year later, we had two series for G5 air around the same time. Make Your Mark aired on Netflix as 22-minute episodes taking place after the recent movie in the same CGI style. Tell Your Tale premiered on YouTube as 5-minute shorts that also take place after the events of the recent film and mixes with the timeline of the Netflix series in a unique 2D animated art syle. With these shows we were given new characters like Misty, Sparky the Dragon, Posey, and Opaline who is not only the series' antagonist, but an ALICORN as well! Yes, Miss Opaline Arcana is a menacing fire alicorn who aims to control Equestria's magic while Misty is working under her wings for the first half of the series until she joins the new Mane 5 as the sixth member to help take her down. We even get a handful of characters from the 2021 film to reappear in both series. As for our new Mane 6, I enjoyed them. Sunny Starscout now having restored Equestria's magic is encouraging to keep ponies together while also learning to control her new alicorn powers. Izzy Moonbow continues to be joyful, positive, and creative as she's so happy to have new friends by her side. Hitch Trailblazer still manages his job at being Maretime Bay's sheriff, but now he has new responsibilities to Sparky and his new Earth Pony magic that also gives him the ability to talk to animals. Princess Zipp Storm and Princess Pipp Petals have moved out of their palace in Zephyr Heights into Maretime Bay where Pipp has opened a new singing salon and Zipp is taking the role of a detective where she wants to know more about Equestria's new magic. As for Misty Brightdawn, she was such a delight through and through as she went from a villain's sidekick to a hero with such good character development.
Unfortunately, things weren't always peaceful in a G5 world. Fans weren't too kind with both series (and even the movie a little bit) especially since it took place in the same timeline/universe as G4. They weren't happy with the stories, they weren't happy with the recast (despite that being very expected), they weren't happy with the characters, and they weren't happy with the overall vibe G5 was going for. There weren't even that many toys being sold compared to G4's run. I do understand where they're coming from because there were some problems with G5 that I couldn't ignore. Some of those problems include the magic system, how Equestria fell after Twilight's reign, the return of Spike and the dragons, and Opaline's backstory. There's a recent villain named, Allura (a winged snow leopard) who was introduced near the end of G5's run and it's a shame because audiences were just given some of her backstory before the generation's cancellation. While Generation 5 had it's ups and downs, I found it pretty disrespectful that it got so much hate for "not living up to G4's standards" or people just not wanting to accept change and still cling onto G4. I know G5 wasn't perfect, but it's not fair that it got hit with so much distaste when MLP has had WORSE media back in the day (My Little Pony: Newborn Cuties says hi). Even though this generation lasted for a few years, I'm grateful that we had ANY media with these ponies and I wish they were given a proper sendoff rather than being cancelled. Thank you for everything, My Little Pony Generation 5! Hoof to heart!❤🦄❤

running in the shadow
i cannot describe how much this fic means to me. i left hundreds of messages during my liveread and i wept all through my comment and my reblog and still it's not nearly enough. it's one of my favorite gifts, one of my favorite fics, and one of my favorite works of art i've ever seen. thank you to @wackus-bonkus-maximus for being a role model, an inspiration, and my first fandom friend.
i love you (for senti-mental reasons)
as the head of the as time goes by pr team, i would be remiss not to recommend something from this series! félix in this universe makes me turn into dynamite. second recommendation is betcha on land (they understand). i'm a big fan of @redundant-lava, you see.
i know there's been pain this year (but it's time to let it go)
what's there not to like about @ninadove's sentitwins? her christmas fic blew me away. i love her creative costume designs, her references to classics and video games, and her accompanying fic art. honorable mentions to la nuit, tous les chats sont gris and everything i did (i did for you).

bell the cat
the single most amazing fantasy au i've read. i'm regularly awed by how incredible it is, and awed by @heartfulselkie's writing, art, and person in general. if i learned how to bind books, this would be at the top of my list. i keep saying it because it's true.

hi! all pre-relationship for mimi & takeshi 😈🫶🏻
Tumblr media
█     𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐱   ⸻   ( ⚝ )
╰┈┈➤    My name is Jojie & I'm excruciatingly slow for no reason, but here we go . . . finally got to this ! ( the way I was looking forward in answering this, but grass wanted to touch ME . THIS IS VERY VERY LONG, read at your own risk.
Tumblr media
⸻ 「 ✦ LOVE ROUTE : IF YAMAMOTO TAKESHI WINS(?). ✦ 」
⸻ 01. How did they first meet? Namimori Middle School, in the classroom on a particularly sunny Monday morning. The class has long began its boring drawl, the teacher's monotonous voice droning only barely interested in the subject he is teaching. Something about a group project. Takeshi is the same, barely focus, still caught by some sleepy spell - his gaze was misty tired when he takes notice of the person seated in front of him, the remnants of summer blowing cold breeze into the classroom, his long hair cradled by the wind. Takeshi was just gonna swat it away, but he'd find his fingers tangled along the strands, weaving slightly along some stranger's hair.
Miruku turns to look at him then, blinking eyes staring curious for a moment before ultimately smiling. " No." He says and Takeshi offers a sheepish grin, " Sorry, couldn't see the blackboard." He lies. " Oh." Miruku replies, apologetic, gathering his hair to the side and along his shoulders. " So sorry." And he turns away.
The next day, Miruku sat away from him.  Unrelated to Takeshi of course.
Tumblr media
⸻ 02. What was their first impression of each other? Miruku had no particular interest in him. A nice enough boy, he thought fairly vaguely, with a nice enough smile and nice enough voice and a nice enough face. Takeshi is easier to remember than most people. Takeshi is the same, there had been nothing to think about ; he was hardly reflective anyway, so what if he has a strange habit of follow him with his eyes?
Tumblr media
⸻ 03. Who felt romantic feelings first?  &  04. Did either of them try to resist their feelings? Unknowingly, Takeshi. It had been a tenderness unnatural to him, he did not recognize it and it did not feel particularly comfortable either. There is a nervous edge to it, a knot in his stomach and a pleasure that provoked strange things in him, he'd rather not discuss it. He'd rather focus on things that didn't confuse and bewilder him, like Tsunayoshi, like Momina.
So it was, and against all this, he ends up dating the latter of the two he calls his best-friends. He ends up dating Momina near end of their middle school years, this is not an act of resistance, rather a cognitive choice that made sense then. She made him happy, they were friends, they were close enough for people to think they're dating, why shouldn't they?
Meanwhile, Miruku's last few months of middle school was spent happily unaware of the romantic hijinks that was about to run amok.
Tumblr media
⸻ 05. What would their lives be like if they had never met? On a surface level, Miruku would not have taken interest in things like baseball & swords. Would not have applied as a manager for a baseball team. Would not have been as friendly to dogs. Would not have learned how to make sushi and plenty little things that simply wouldn't be part of his day to day life. There might not be much of a change, but I'm certain Miruku wouldn't be as happy, I'm certain, he'd rather experience Takeshi.
Takeshi meanwhile would have likely a more patent difference. Miruku is his growth pains. The tooth pulling and a leap of faith. There had been many things he wouldn't have done . . . Miruku has a way of pushing people out of their comfort zone it would seem, for better or for worst.
Tumblr media
⸻ 06. What was their "flirting stage" like? Miruku does not flirt, but he is awfully ' overly friendly ' , it was easy with Takeshi, it came natural to be excessively affectionate both in words and action with him ; it's a bit virginal in a way, that he doesn't know what he is doing. ( he likes to pretend he does tho ). As for Takeshi, similarly he was particularly unaware of the lines he was crossing at first, from the time they've first met, through their adulthood his flirtation had been thinly vailed with what looks to be something chaste and modest, he is good at hiding his intentions, maybe he's just being friendly! he's always friendly! Even when later in life he has been more conscious of his actions, Miruku seems to just not understand what's going on.
Typically, if you flirt with Miruku, it would send him spiraling into disgust, in this case, Miruku was under the impression they were buddy-buddy . . . it was a miserable misread admittedly, one that foiled any advances Takeshi made.
Tumblr media
⸻ 07. How do their friends and family feel about them as a couple? A collective sigh of relief, oh thank god. Later, one that of horror because there is such a thing as too affectionate. ( perhaps, get a room ? )

Down in the dark where the waves won't go, I'm bound to find my way.
Sunny and Buggy disagree over the next steps of their life together leading to them spending time apart.
Rating: PG-13 to be safe for swearing and arguing. Warning: Each chapter will have a specific warning. This one just has upset children again, foot injury, a lonely child, mention of child loss, Buggy is mad at a child, Sunny is not mad at a child. Word Count: 2,164 A/N: The direct sequel to "No locked upon land...", the fic that started it all. I do not use "You" in this as now that Sunny is an established OC I decided not to go that route. This will be several chapters. Originally (lol) it was just two parts but... but I had to expand but I don't expect it to go much longer than the original fic. It's a few chapters longer than the original fic.
Title comes from "Sailing Song" by S.J. Tucker
Chapter 1 + Chapter 2 + Chapter 3 + Chapter 4 + Chapter 5 + Chapter 6 + Chapter 7 + Chapter 8 + Chapter 9 + Chapter 10 + Epilogue Taglist: @hey-august @lostfirefly
Chapter 3
Buggy managed to get her to calm down by taking her to meet Richie. The lion looked at Sunny, to Buggy, then back at Sunny before he started sniffing her, trying to figure out who this child really was. She certainly smelled like Sunny but was just snack size. He snuffled her hair, making sure it really was her, before licking her cheek. She squealed and stepped back, giggling loudly before holding her hand out to pet him.
“You have a lion! This is like the circus!” She grinned as she looked up at Buggy. “Do you run a pirate circus, Mister Buggy?”
“Sure, that's what I do.” He said as Richie pawed at Sunny. “She doesn't have treats for you, Richie! Stop pawing at her!”
Sunny giggled and gave Richie a hug, nuzzling his furry face and playing with his mane. “You're so pretty! Maybe I can brush you and braid your mane!” She looked at Buggy. “Can I? He'll look so pretty!”
Buggy crossed his arms, wanting to protest on behalf of the lion. He wouldn't look fierce with little bows in his mane, but whenever he saw his wife next, maybe he could use this as an example as to why she should settle with having a pet tiger cub instead of kids. So, he laughed and nodded.
“Sure, kid! Go nuts! I bet he'll look extra flashy with all those bows and shit!” He chuckled as she smiled up at him. “Who needs friends or a kid when you have a lion, right?”
“Oh, I don't have friends.” Sunny told him as she started running her fingers through his hair, looking for any tangles. “I'm a big sister, though!”
That made Buggy stop laughing. No, no she wasn't. He met Sunny’s parents and extended family multiple times and she was an only child. He looked at her with a confused expression as she began to section parts of Richie's mane. The lion laid his head down and let her.
“My baby brother’s dead. He's buried in the backyard.” She told him casually as she started with the first lock of hair. “And mama didn't want any more kids after that. She was really sick for a while.”
Why didn't Buggy know any of this? The little girl didn't seem to have a problem talking about it, telling Buggy her brother’s name, that her papa made a nice little box for him, and sometimes she would talk to him on his birthday and bring him flowers. She told him he was five years old and that Sunny had been so excited to be a big sister and had planned to be The Best Big Sister ever, but it wasn't meant to be. She had to be the Best Big Cousin instead.
If her mom went through hell and lost a child, why the hell would Sunny want to go through that risk herself?
And the other part…
“You don't have friends?” Buggy asked. “Wait, really?!” She was one of the nicest people he knew, how could she not have had friends growing up? That was absurd to him.
Sunny shrugged and started another braid. “Mama was a pirate. Everyone's scared of her.”
“But she wasn't a pirate anymore when she raised you!” Buggy told her; Sunny whipped her head around and frowned at him and Buggy backtracked. “What I mean is… she probably wasn't after uh, having you, right? She probably wanted to stick around and be a mom, right?”
“But the other kids are scared of her.” Sunny shrugged. “She doesn't look like other mamas.” She looked back at Richie before turning around to face Buggy again, glaring at him so intensely he wondered what he did wrong. “She's the best mama ever, okay!”
“Okay, geez.” Buggy was pretty sure he didn't say anything rude about Windy. He was even a little afraid of her knowing who her Captain had been and everything, but she was always so friendly and kind to him that there were never any problems. “So, uh…” He didn't know what to say at this point. Sunny was always better with kids than him which further baffled him as to why she suddenly wanted to have them with him. He couldn't keep his temper in check with himself, how would it go with his own child?
~*~
“Boys, stay in sight!” Rayleigh told them as the two raced off ahead towards the ship. Sunny followed along with Roger beside her. Should she board the ship? Should she wait around the shop in case it was time to go back? She had no understanding of how this really worked.
“Can they get into trouble that far ahead?” Sunny asked. Rayleigh just grumbled something while Roger chuckled.
“Buggy got a little lost on another island about a month ago.” He told her. “He was only missing for about twenty minutes but it gave me a fright when I found out.”
“Really?” Sunny was surprised. Buggy made it sound like the crewman who was watching him didn't care the boy was missing, but his Captain seemed concerned.
“Really! Those are my boys! I can't have them disappearing like that!” The Captain told her as the boys stopped at the edge of the docks, arms crossed as they tapped their feet, waiting for the adults to catch up. “I just hoped Buggy was safe during that time.”
Should she tell him? Would any of this affect the future? It didn't so far…
“I had him.” Sunny told him. “He… he was safe with me and my husband.”
“Ah! Buggy as an adult then?”
“Mhm, I found the kid and brought him back to my ship to be safe and he stayed with us for a few days.” She said with a smile. “He's such a good boy.”
“And a good man I hope.” He chuckled. “Otherwise I'll have to have words with him.”
Sunny smiled thinly and nodded. Yes, he was, overall, a good husband but this last week had her thinking differently. She wasn't about to tell the captain her marital problems. It wasn't something he needed to be concerned with, especially since her and Buggy wouldn't meet for almost another 15 years.
“He's a very good man.” She assured him. “You raised a good boy, Captain Roger. I'm lucky to have him.”
~*~
Sunny and Cabaji made dinner. The acrobat looked so confused upon seeing the little girl, wondering what happened now because why was there a kid on the ship again, but she was so sweet and introduced herself to him, asked about being friends, and next thing Buggy knew she roped Cabaji into helping make dinner.
It wasn't anything fancy like his wife would make, but tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches were a decent meal. She told Cabaji she wasn't allowed to use the stove by herself so he had to handle the sandwiches while she stirred the soup, and he wanted to protest but one glare from Buggy had him listening to the little head chef.
“Don't let them burn!” She told him as the sandwiches sizzled for a little longer than she would have liked. “They don't taste good burnt!”
“I won't, they're fine!” He insisted, lifting the edge of one only to see the bread was indeed burning. Under Sunny’s glare he quickly flipped it over and turned the heat down a bit.
“Gotta watch them, okay? No burnt food.” Sunny scolded him as she added pepper to the soup. “It won't go well with the soup.”
Cabaji rolled his eyes and looked back at his captain. He had his arms crossed and was glaring at the acrobat the entire time. This was boring and he didn't want to keep doing this but he had to listen to his captain. Sunny tasted the soup first before letting Cabaji try it next. He seemed pleased with it so she waved Buggy over excitedly.
“It's tasty!” She said as she held the spoon out for him. He tried not to roll his eyes as he got up, walking over and letting her feed it to him like she did Cabaji, but she tipped the spoon too soon and it spilled onto Buggy’s shirt. His nice one he had ironed for his date with Sunny. “Oh no!”
“Are you kidding me?!” He shrieked as he stepped back. “That's going to stain! You ruined my best shirt, kid!” He grabbed a dishtowel, trying to blot the greasy soup out of the fabric. “This was a mistake bringing you here. This is why I don't want kids, you know, they just wreck things!”
“Captain-”
“I'm sorry.” Sunny said in a quiet voice as she looked down at her feet. She sniffled quietly before she hurried out of the kitchen while Buggy tried to save his shirt. Cabaji was looking at Buggy in surprise. While he didn't understand what the situation was or where the Captain's wife was currently located, he didn't think there was a reason to get mad at a child.
~*~
Sunny sat between the boys during dinner. Afterwards Buggy promised her a tour of the ship, but to his disappointment Shanks wanted to tag along with them. He didn't want to share his time with Sunny but she agreed that he could. Buggy hated the idea but he made sure to hold Sunny’s hand the entire time he gave the tour.
“This is where we store the cannonballs!” Buggy told her as he took her to the next floor down. “I'm strong enough to pick one up on my own now!”
“Are you? That's wonderful!” Sunny said with a smile as Shanks snickered.
“Can you do it without dropping it on your foot?” Shanks asked teasingly. “Last time you picked it up, you dropped it right on your foot and you cried like a baby!”
“Oh, well, I imagine anyone would if that happened.” Sunny interjected as she went to pick one up, struggling just a bit. “See? I'm an adult and they're heavy to me! I'm impressed Buggy was able to lift it, I'm just sad he got hurt.”
Buggy glared at Shanks but looked back at Sunny with a smug look. “It's because I'm really strong, and I only cried because it caught me by surprise, that's all!”
“It's okay that you cried, Buggy, really.” Sunny insisted. “I think it's good if you ever get scared or hurt.”
He looked back at Shanks who was snickering at him. Buggy was strong and he wanted to prove it to Sunny, so he turned to the stack of cannonballs and grabbed one, picking one off the top. It was just as heavy as he remembered but he could do it, he could hold it, but as soon as he tried to lift it any higher it slipped out of his hands and fell hard downwards, landing on Sunny’s foot.
~
Buggy couldn't believe what he did. He tried not to cry when Sunny gasped in pain and fell to the ground, and when Shanks ran to get Rayleigh to help Sunny, she tried to comfort the boy.
“Maybe next time we don't lift up cannonballs with unwashed dinner hands.” She told him as she managed to get her shoe off to look at her foot. It didn't feel broken but it definitely hurt. “I'm not mad at you, Buggy.”
Rayleigh came down and helped her to the ship’s doctor while the boys followed after. Buggy knew he'd be in trouble and he wouldn't be surprised if Sunny was mad at him. He accidentally hurt her and he didn't mean to, he just wanted to prove to her how strong he was.
Once she was sitting down while the doctor looked at her foot, she gestured for Buggy to come over. He hesitated, wondering if she was going to say he messed up big time and she hated him, but he took a few steps closer and she hauled him into her lap, wrapping her arms around him and resting her chin on top of his head, wincing when the doctor poked at her foot.
“I'm really not mad at you, Buggy.” She told him as he leaned into her arms. “I know it wasn't on purpose.”
“I'm sorry.” He mumbled as he rubbed his nose, looking up at her with watery eyes. “Are you still gonna marry me when we get older?”
She turned her head to cough, hoping it didn't sound like a snort. Rayleigh even looked amused by the question as Sunny hugged the boy.
“Yes, Buggy! People mess up, it's okay.” She assured him. “You made a mistake and apologized, that's all I needed to hear.”
He straightened up and put his hands on her cheeks, making sure she was looking right at him. “Imma always apologize and be the best and never make you cry, got it, Sunny?”
Oh, she wished he would remember this as an adult. “I got it, Buggy.”

stratford on avon travelogue aka benny's really good super nice day (part 1 of 2)
IIIIIII decided to go to stratford on avon today bc i've been meaning to go for a while and I've got this week off (birthday tomorrowwwww) - cham was gonna come too but had a bit too much work so it was just me, and I was slightly apprehensive about that but i actually had an incredible day and I'm going to tell you all about it RIGHT NOW
I left the house at noonish, its a roughly 45min drive from worcester and the drive was actually really nice, all relatively fast b roads/country lanes. I didn't really have a plan for the day other than just walk around, maybe see some shakespeare shit, otherwise just see my little lizard brain took me, so I just set the sat nav for "stratford on avon" and set off. When i got to the town outskirts i immediately saw signs for anne hathaway's cottage so i was like "yeah aight" and turned off, went down some cute semi-rural residential streets and arrived in a nice green leafy neighbourhood with a nearly deserted car park (no bank holiday today in the uk, we have it next monday). I noticed the minimum stay was 3 hrs so i was like hmmmmm and then when i got to the cottage it turns out you can buy a ticket that gets you into all three shakespeare places (anne's cottage, his birthplace, his new place) so I was like hmmmmmmmmmmm *a plan is forming*.
Tumblr media
watch out 🐊
I wandered round the orchard/outsidey bits (a little sculpture/statue trail of shakepeare-y stuff) and did a very speedrun-y tour of the cottage itself - I wasn't super invested or bothered about Learning I just felt like being a tourist and it was honestly super fun to just be like no thanks i don't want any information :) i'll just walk around :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
falstaff's belley, also bees
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it's nice she could afford such a cool place, she was good in interstellar
After maybe less than hour I emerged from ann hathaway's cottage and by that time the plan had cemented - I was going to go and see how many of shakespeare's three cribs I could see in a day. I didn't actually need to do this because the ticket is valid for a year but it felt like a fun little goal. I also noted there was a handy signposted route into the town centre so I opted to leave the car there and walk - I both did and didn't regret this decision later.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The walk into town was mostly along a long straight boring road but I did see a cool graveyard and a euphemistically named "SCULPTORS" workshop not far away. The walk in total was probably about 15-20 mins but it felt a bit longer, i eventually got bored and wandered off down a side road and finally got spat out of the sleepy residential streets just in front of Holy Trinity church:

(i didn't know that was what it was immediately, again fully did not plan or research anything beforehand, anyway it is apparently a Landmark so, great 👍)
From here it was a short walk along the river, and by that point i was falling slightly in love with the place already - the weather was just sunny enough, it wasn't too busy, people were boating on the river, there were swans and geese everywhere. After a few minutes I saw these and my original plan to visit some dead bloke's houses sort of got back burnered:
Tumblr media
When I saw the boats for hire sign my little lizard brain immediately decided it wanted nothing more in the whole wide world than to go on a little boat on the river avon. I thought "yeah aight" and wondered off to find the actual hire point, these were just moored here and the wasn't anyone actually around to hire them out to me.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
on the way i went past some big theatre place? i think it was something to with the dead bloke, idk i was thinking about boats.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
a couple more minutes of boat focused wandering brought me to the boathouse (on the right^) which was deserted except for the staff who were all sitting on the veranda eating hula hoops. they seemed mildly surprised that i wanted to hire a boat, and explained that they only electric motorboats for hire that day. I had already seen the sign advertising the option between analogue and electric and i was like "yeah aight", so i paid the man and hopped aboard. I was given a brief how-to, and here i should maybe explain I have not been on any kind of boat in a very long time, my experience extends to heavily supervised rowing on a canal as a kid and one (1) time having a brief go at the wheel of a motorboat on a scottish loch when i was 13ish. None of this really swayed or discouraged me however, so consumed was i with the lizard brain instruction to Go on A Boat. I gamely took in the safety briefing which amounted to lever forward go faster, lever back go slower/reverse, turn to wheel to steer, dont fall in (I'll try not to, i responded cheerily, like a real adult), and I was on my way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
aboard the good ship "number 27"
it took me a couple of minutes to get the hang of the steering, but its top speed wasn't too fast and it actually handled really nicely and responsively so the learning curve wasn't too steep, and pretty soon I was whirring happly along
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On the return leg I was just working out how to correct after my big u turn (i only had the boat for 30 mins and was only allowed on a short section of the river) when i spotted something odd and brown on the near side of the riverbank and i was like, is that a fucking otter, and lads IT WAS AN OTTER
i look really unexcited here bc i'm trying operate a phone camera at the same time as controlling an unfamiliar vehicle, and trying not to plough said vehicle into said otter. the otter looks really unexcited here bc im just a twat in a boat and it sees those all the time.
The rest of my journey was uneventful but very pleasant, once i got the hang it was a very relaxing and centering activity and i will definitely be back. I brought the boat back right side up and with me still dry and in it, which the dudes at the boat hire seemed pretty happy about, and they were even happier when i showed them the video of the otter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
From here I sort of just wandered around a bit more? By now it was approaching 4 o'clock and S on A is apparently one of those towns where everything shuts down from like 4 to 5, so it was pretty quiet. I wandered up the high street, wandered into a hi fi store, gawked at some turntables, wandered into a weird little "vintage store", took a picture of a tuba, left, wandered around a bit more, and then walked past a japanese restaurant and stopped and was like hmmmmmmmm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
bonus toilet selfie bc i was feeling myself this day.
It wasn't opening until 5 but i now had a plan formed (completely forgotten about the dead guy's digs by now). I wandered back towards the river, found a gelato place, got gelato (elderflower, battenberg and salted caramel, don't question me), and went and ate the gelato with my legs dangling off the steps by the river OH NO I HIT THE IMAGE LIMIT OK PART 1 OF 2 I GUESS

hi i know this is so unbelievably random but i'm going to be moving to asia next year, and i want to visit australia over xmas 2024 (ik it's not that close haha but it's the closest i'll ever be). i'll probably only be there for a week max, so where would you recommend visiting. i know you've been there, and i was just wondering if you had thoughts
Hi omg yes I’d be happy to help!!! Also I’m really stoked for you bc this was the exact time of year I went for the first time and you’re going to have an incredible time!!!
If you only have a week, I’d recommend picking one of 2 itineraries, depending on what you want to see.
1) fly into Melbourne. The climate for this one will be similar to going to California in the spring. Melbourne is an amazing city (I like to describe it as ‘if NYC were in a utopia’ because that’s the vibes it has lol) there is ALWAYS something really cool and typically free going on city-wide, it’s a great walk-able city with FREE public transit, so much to do, and just the best city experience Australia has to offer in my opinion. I’d recommend spending 2ish days in Melb and then doing a road trip on what’s called The Great Ocean Road. If you’ve ever heard of the Pacific Coast Highway in the US, it’s like that but like. On every steroid there is. The entire drive, you’re along these MASSIVE ocean cliffs on one side with the most turquoise water you’ve ever seen, and one of the worlds oldest rainforests on the other, culminating in these rock formations called The Twelve Apostles that are just. Look them up, it’s insane. While it will be likely too cold to swim in this water (it’s the Arctic Ocean!), there’s lots of great camping and there’s wildlife everywhere. There was one rest stop where I got out of the car and 2 birds that were every color of the rainbow landed on my head; there’s a campsite I stopped at where instead of waking up to birds chirping, you woke up to the sound of koalas. There’s a wildlife reserve where I played with dingos and just got to hang out and pet them while they sat on my lap. There’s a golf course frequented by kangaroos where you can rent golf carts just to drive around and look at them. One morning a baby kangaroo was playing 2 feet from my tent. You can zip line through the rainforest and the food at every random cafe I stopped at is some of the best food I’ve ever had. Then on your way back along the inland route there’s Grampians National Park, which just has AMAZING rock formations, great hikes, the coolest views ever. If you just drove the whole thing and didn’t stop it’d be about 8 hours; I did it in 5 days and they were hands down the best 5 days of my life.
2) For a more tropical experience, you’ll want to fly into Brisbane. While I don’t love it as much as Melbourne, it’s a VERY cool city and the best and most iconic thing about it is the MASSIVE city pool right along the river that winds through the city. The way they decorate for Christmas is also really really fun. The best thing about Brisbane is all the stuff surrounding it: Gold Coast to the south has really amazing beaches and Miami kind of vibes, and Sunshine Coast to the north is one of my favorite places in Australia (fun fact I actually almost went to college there). Sunshine Coast is where Steve Irwin’s zoo is and where everyone takes photos holding koalas, altho it’s a bit overpriced for the name recognition compared to the places WAY far north you can go if you have time - it is fun and a great experience! In the Sunny Coast also are the Glass House Mountains, which are these massive pointed towering stones that jut out of the tropical farmland from nowhere. It’s really cool and really beautiful. You’ll find TONS of fresh fruit stands in this area, and driving through it at night is just incredible. A bit north of this is Noosa National Park, which is home to really iconic subtropical beaches, super cute but like, kinda out there beach towns, such amazing warm water to swim in, and a really good amount of hiking - it’s the gateway to Great Sandy National Park, which is home to some of the most beautiful white sand I’ve ever seen, where you can feed wild dolphins every morning and kayak around them in some of the bluest water you’ve ever seen. You can drive north for as long as you have time, and it just keeps getting more tropical and more beautiful the farther up you go.
To be honest I would not bother fucking with Sydney which probably seems like a crazy thing to say but here’s my reasoning. There’s only 2 things to do there that feel extremely like you’re in Australia and not any other major US location, and that’s the Sydney Opera house and Bondi Beach, both of which imo are SUPER touristy and not extremely memorable outside of like “did the thing took a picture here, see I went to Australia”. There are touristy bits about the places I recommended too, but they lean more towards Australian tourists as opposed to world tourists who just turn it into a people zoo. Yes there is hiking and nice beaches a couple hours outside the city, but there’s more remarkable hiking and more remarkable beaches other places. It’s like yeah you COULD spend a day in NYC and spend it at time square because that’s The Thing To Do, or you could just. Go to the cool and really memorable parts and have better experiences.
I hope this all helps and Aussie mutuals please feel free to corroborate this hehe I feel like it’s accurate

Can you like
Give a quick tl;dr of ethereal route? It's so much lore my brain hurts but I'm very interested from what I read before my brain fried
sry if this question is rude btw I'm not trying to be I swear 😭
XD lol no worries, I get it. ER is a very detailed AU because it’s mostly World Building and Original Character focused, for the most part.
But the TL;DR for Ethereal Route is this:
Mari dies, but becomes a ghost at the bottom of the staircase, witnesses the cover up of her death and is in shambles for 3 days in the cemetery, then a nice older ghost man named Klaus picks her up and moves her to The Afterlife (it’s his job lol), her staying with him and his husband Wendell/Del and they eventually adopt her.
And then it’s just following Mari’s POV over the next 4 years after everything that’s happened and just showing how her 2nd life is going with the new friends she makes in Death. Showing how she’s adapting to the Afterlife as a whole.
Her new family and friends helping her to not only mature and break out of her perfectionist mind set, but to also help her forgive herself for the incident. Just like what she does with Sunny when the eventual “3 Days Later” part of the Canon Story starts.
Hope this is okay lmao tried my best to shorten it into the simplest format I could 😅

A Cheery Lot
Here's my contribution to the 2022 Inklings Christmas Challenge (@inklings-challenge). It's a little cyberpunk, and I incorporated song as the major image. I tried to do something that didn't involve somebody dying or experiencing extreme turmoil. Also, first-person. Hopefully, it worked out. Story after the break.
"Merry Christmas!" "Woot! It's Christmas!" "¡Feliz Navidad!" "Happy Holidays!" "Happy Christmas to everybody!"
The chat on my HUD is a constant stream of holiday wishes. The 25th is just hours away. It seems every shop and house I walk by is full of revelry and cheer. Some dance as they walk to the next party. Some exchange gifts. Some do some last-minute shopping. Some are so caught up in the ecstasy of the moment that they forget to find somewhere more private to celebrate. It's just like a normal night in the city, but with twice the energy. People here like to celebrate, but they do it harder when there's an actual celebration.
Blinking lights cover every building. Businesses augment their signs with holograms of reindeer, trees, and Santa. The usual stable music is set free to stampede our minds until we get sick of it, and then they sing it some more. There's so much to buy, and the sales just make it all that much more tempting. That new air fryer I've been looking at is now half off, but I don't need to get it for myself. Someone else will get it for me, and I will get them something they want. That's how Christmas works. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. Somehow, it's more rewarding to buy things for each other that we would have normally gotten on our own.
I am no different than the rest. I am on my way to a party thrown together by some coworkers. It's one of the few times we get to see each other. Oh, sure, we get a good look each day through our virtual meetings. These glasses we all wear really make that convenient. YumiCorp really did us a good turn developing these. I don't see how humanity got along without the steady stream of information these things provide. I like seeing what's in a building, having a map of where I'm going, being able to work while I go about my day, and watching the constant chatter of the city. Life without them is so boring and bland. Still, there's something different about talking to a warm body and not to a video.
And, like that, I receive a video call. It's Josephina, my manager, wearing a festive sweater and reindeer antlers, both with blinking lights.
"Hey, Henry! How's it going?"
"Hi, Josephina. I'm walking there right now."
"Great! It looks like you're on Broadway."
"Yeah. Just a few more blocks to go."
"You better hurry! The rest of the team is here, and the hors d’oeuvres are almost gone already."
"Should I pick up some snacks?"
"I ordered some more food, but a little more won't hurt."
The map of my walking route displayed a number of stores that were on the way.
"I'll pick up a few things, then."
"Thanks. See you soon!"
The video call disappears. I look at the suggested stores. Most of them are convenience stores, but this one here, Mitchell's, catches my attention. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but the few who've been seem to love it. I think I'll give it a go.
The store is just a few blocks away tucked under an apartment complex. I see why not many have been there: it has a small, faded sign that would be barely visible on a clear, sunny day. I would have missed it if the glasses didn't highlight the sign and front door. I descend the shallow steps to the door and struggle to pry it open. The wood scrapes against the cement as it finally gives, yielding a packed shop full of all kinds of things. I think the owner stuffed an entire Wal-mart into the space of a 7-Eleven, but they also managed it keep it clean and organized. What manner of sorcery is this?
"Irasshai!" I jump at the sudden, cheerful greeting. Standing behind the counter is a thin, balding Asian man with a colorful name tag labelling him as Mitchell. The glasses confirm this. Mitchell nods with an excited tic and a wide grin.
"A new customer!" he says. "I'm sorry if I made you jump. It's a greeting my family used at home a long time ago."
"Where was home?" I ask.
"Japan. Kyoto."
"Is that how you know how to stuff all this in here?" Mitchell nodded.
"Yes, sir! I have just about anything you could need. What are you looking for?"
"Snacks for a Christmas party."
"Of course, of course! Let me show you what we have."
Mitchell nimbly navigates his shop the way a librarian could find a book. He points out different kinds of finger foods for sale, and there were even some hot items I didn't notice before. Never had I seen such efficiency of space. Within minutes, I was carrying bags full of crackers, spreads, and warm tamales. I tap my glasses and make a note of this wonderful find of a place. I started to thank Mitchell when the lights went dark.
"Oh!" Mitchell says. Without missing a beat, he strikes a match and lights a candle. With that candle, he lights a few more, bathing the counter in a sort of eerie, dim light. It feels oddly cozy and comforting.
"It's not often the power goes out," he says. "Hopefully it isn't for too long."
"Right," I reply. "Thanks, Mitchell. I'll be back again."
"You are most welcome, honored guest!" He bows as I step out through the stubborn door.
I step back up to the sidewalk when I notice something: my route doesn't show up on the glasses. In fact, nothing is there but blank spaces. The glasses are on, but they aren't receiving any data. I look around. Darkness. Everywhere there should be lights, there is only inky black. I can hear the indistinct protesting of the crowds. It's hard to see with camera lights. It's cold outside. Frightened people lash out at pranksters who pretend to be ghosts for cheap laughs.
I can't go anywhere by standing around here, so I start toward Josephina's place. It wasn't far, and I have a decent memory, so I try to navigate the streets from that. I'm pretty sure there was a left turn here, and then a right turn there, and it was just few blocks this way down 8th Street...
Wait. This doesn't look like the residential area Josephina lives in. This looks way different. Everythhing looks older, worn, run down. Is this...the ghetto? Was it always this close? I look around to see where I am at, but I cannot make out anything like a familiar landmark or a street sign in this darkness. Am I lost? I am lost. I don't know where to go from here.
Voices. Voices coming from around the corner. It sounds like singing. What should I do? I could ask them for help, but what if they're dangerous? But they're singing. It doesn't sound like trouble. It's risk danger for help or stand here and slowly freeze. I walk closer to the corner where the voices are coming from. I see the faint reflection of light coming from a building across the street. The voices are clearer, coming from a lot. The light flickers, and there is a scent of something burning, like Mitchell's match and candles, but somehow pleasant. I walk to the lot. There is a group of people standing around a couple of barrels. There is a fire in each, and a ring of people surrounds them. Some of the people hold out their gloved hands trying to absorb the warmth of the fires. A stack of logs sits in between the barrels. One of the larger men steps forward, grabs a couple of logs, and throws them into the barrels, one in each. Within a few moments, the fires blaze a little brighter. They're singing Christmas carols. I know them from the music that normally plays all day, but there are no instruments or bass dropping or anything normally broadcast. It's just their voices ringing out into the dark, dead night.
When they had finished their current song, someone pointed at me, and they all turned to see their intruder. They motioned me to join them, so I stepped closer to the fire.
"Hey, man, you don't look like you're from around here," one of the men say.
"Uh, no, I'm not. I live downtown," I say. Amazed chatter followed, accented with "oos" and "ahs."
"Get lost?"
"Yeah. Yeah, I did."
"Where you headed?"
"Parker Street."
"You're about ten blocks off course."
"I see."
There was an awkward silence. A woman joined the group from the dark street.
"Joe's been called out," she says. "Someone got a hold of some fireworks and set them off by a substation. Power'll be out for a couple of hours."
"All that info, and not a lick of common sense," a man says. The group grunts in agreement and shakes their heads. I want to protest, but I wouldn't be here if I really knew where I was going and wasn't dependent on these glasses. I take them off and look at them.
"Hey, four-eyes," a man calls out. I look up. I feel a chill breeze and shiver. I don't belong here.
"Y-yeah?" I say.
"You got a favorite carol?"
"Oh, you don't need to worr--"
"No, man, you're our guest."
"Oh. I..." I had to think for a moment. I never really gave that much thought before. It all kind of blurs together every year. Everyone seems so blissful and happy and cheerful. I guess there was that one upbeat song about comfort and joy, but I never really heard anything but that part.
"There's one that's about comfort and joy, I think?" I offer.
They all nod their heads. Some say it's a good one.
The man who asked starts them off. "God rest ye," and then they all take hold and sing the entire song. A song of faith, joy at the coming of a savior. I never heard such things before. I tried to sing with them, but I couldn't keep up with them except at that chorus part. I looked around uncomfortably and noticed that there was a tree bedecked with a few ornaments and a string of lights. A real one, not something that the glasses tacked on. Next to it was a table with a small plate of food. I approach the tree as they sang. I touch the needles but jerk my hand back as they poke it. I didn't think they would be so sharp. I reach out again and grit through the uncomfortable feeling. It smelled of pine. Of course, it did. But it was a real scent, not something coming from a candle or spray. I could feel the weight of the wood and the sticky sap in each whiff. If the power had not been out, this tree would be illuminated by the pathetic string of lights and the star that crowned the top. It would have been a warm and welcoming sight, especially for these people. This was nothing like the celebrations I walked past earlier.
I could go to Mitchell's again later, or maybe some other store. I brought out the food I bought and set it out on the table. The tamales had cooled some but still held a little warmth, which I offered to the gathered crowd when they had finished singing. I've seen people excited over a meal before, but I've never seen such joy as each person caressed their warm tamal and peeled it open to eat. They hail me as some sort of hero, half-mockingly, and the other half genuine. I brought them cheer. No, that's not right. They already had cheer. I simply accented it.
They crack jokes, tell stories, and ask questions. They want to know what I do. They talk about their hard lives. I am far away from family, but they cherish theirs daily. Some say this is the finest food they've ever had. I don't know what to say. When they finish eating, more logs enter the fires, and the singing begins anew, well-fed and grateful for it. I keep up the best that I can, fully aware that I never really paid attention to music as anything more than background noise. Time loses its meaning, and for a short while, I am adopted into this community. I feel blessed.
After some time, the lights return to the city. People cheer as their tree also lights up with the surrounding buildings. Strings of bulbs alight overhead with no real pattern. They shine over the lot with the little bit of magic they hold. I feel a buzzing in my pocket. I pull out my glasses and put them on. A flurry of activity pours through, and Josephina is calling.
"Henry?"
"Yeah?"
"Oh, good! You're alright! Did you get lost?"
"No. Well, yes. I did. But I ended up at someone else's party while the power is out."
"We're still going here, telling ghost stories, if you want to come."
"It's getting a bit late out as it is. I'll have to take a rain check."
"I get you. Sorry it didn't work out!"
She waves bye and hangs up. I rejoin the party I found myself in. I think tonight, I found the better place to be.

The second part of our trip has come to an end after a 5 day road trip on the Garden Route. This route took us through rolling hills with vineyards and white sandy beaches along the southcoast and back over the steep mountainous Swartberg Pass and endless desert driving more inland. Total distance was roughly 1700 km.
On the first day, we set off early to see the marching ducks at a vineyard where they use them as a natural pesticide. My hope was high, and expectation set to see a Donald Duck like fanfare marching from the pond into the lush vineyard. Unfortunately, the info provided online was incorrect, and Donald and his troopers had already had their breakfast. Nevertheless, we got a private tour of the estate, which was still very informative and interesting, even for people like us who only use wine for goulash. Next, we stopped by Laura's friend, where we had milktart and tea, in a gated community that did not exist on Google maps. This was a completely different side to living in SA to the townships we had just passed to get there. We continued our journey on to Hermanus, where we did a coastal walk and spent the afternoon watching the abundant amount of whales play and eat in the bay.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The days after, we spent a long time driving with a few highlights. Laura and I went bungeejumping from the 3rd highest bungee in the world at the Bloukrans bridge. This bridge allows for a freefall of roughly 170 meters. I can't deny my knees were weak, arms were heavy, nearly some vomit on my sweater already when seeing Laura and the other "contestant" being strapped up to jump off the bridge, but once it was my turn felt surprisingly calm. I knew I could not withdraw and live with the knowledge that my sister had more courage (or stupidity, depending on who you ask) than me. If you wonder what it feels like, it's exactly what you imagine. Air moving very fast past you, a gentle deceleration, and then a good 2 minutes of blood rushing to your head while you ungraciously hang upside down to be rescued. They must have a laugh up there wondering why stupid tourists pay for such a thing.
Tumblr media
Another highlight was buying my souvenir for this trip, which is an Orlando Pirates football jersey. After watching the film Captain Phillips, I got my inspiration on how to name my Fifa and FPL teams. Can't post the name here, or I'll get demonitized, but the true managers out there know what I'm talking about. Besided that, the shirt looks cool, and I am looking forward to wearing it on the pitch!
The last 2 highlights were the Robberg hiking trail on a beautiful sunny day, with a wee detour to the island. And of course, todays 7 hour drive over the Swartberg pass and over the N1 through a desert. For more interesting facts and details, you can read Naomi's blog (nfornaomi).

Camelopardalis, Spinat, und Düsseldorf
Good morning from sunny Aachen! The program is slowly coming to an end. I have been in Germany for a little over 9 weeks. That feels quite surreal as it feels like I have just arrived. The final symposium is this Thursday. I finished my poster a couple of days ago. I presented research at a symposium in April. I'm not sure if this is because I've been through the process before but the second time around feels significantly less daunting and taxing.
This past Wednesday, we headed to West Park, a local hang-out spot in Aachen. Pictured below is Adam amongst the ducks. Once these creatures realize you have food they do NOT back down.
Tumblr media
One of the students on the trip brought a disposable camera to the Rursee trip. Here's all of us on the lake below !
Tumblr media
Adding on to Wednesday's activities. Valerie, Eliana, Clara, and I climbed onto the roof of the student dorm buildings. It was such a beautiful view from up there. Although there was ample cloud cover, we saw the faint outline of Camelopardalis, the 18th largest constellation in the sky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pictured below is the token dorm cat we named Spinat. Spinat is quite a friendly outdoor cat. My initial questions described on this blog consisted of whether I'd meet a German dog. Although I have not, at least I met a German cat!
In addition, I have been going on a lot of runs in Aachen. There is one route I love in particular. I run through Campus Melaten and venture along the Aachener golf course. The lack of people and good trails make this an epic and classic route.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yesterday, some friends and I traveled to Düsseldorf. We headed to the Rheinkirmes. A two-week-long fair/carnival. We dove headfirst into the fair and went on this INSANE ride pictured below. I'm not sure if this picture does the ride justice but you'll have to trust me on this one.
Tumblr media
One major difference I noted between this fair and Cedar Point for example is that the entrance was free, but each ride had a different price. Therefore, I only went on two rides because it was quite expensive. Those two rides were incredibly worth it though.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After the fair, we crossed this lovely bridge (Oberkassel Brücke) to your lower left and ventured into the Altstadt, or old town. To the lower right is the MediaHarbor bridge.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is one last picture of Düsseldorf. Although it was quite foggy and windy the whole day it alleviated the dreadedJuly heat.
Tumblr media
See you next week! :ö

6/23/23
I made this blog with the intention of joining the studyblr community, but it doesn't hurt to throw some personal journaling in too.
It was warm today, sunny too, so I grabbed my most comfortable boots and headed out on one of my not so famous "adventures." It started off normal, of course, walking past the various bars and statues scattered throughout the college town. They were never my thing, but I've grown somewhat fond of the familiar territory. It's nice that there's plenty of things to use as landmarks since I can't find my way anywhere without a GPS. I gave the nose of the university's opossum mascot statue a rub for luck, then diverged from the sidewalk in favor of the "scenic" route.
It was peaceful, just enjoying the sunshine that peaked through the trees and climbing over rocks and run down fences. Rubbing the opossum's nose must've worked, because right by one of the fences was a dead bunny! The poor thing was half eaten and covered in those really pretty flies that have an iridescent green body. I took a picture and wished it a good afterlife. or reincarnation? or at least some peace in its eternal rest.
But none of that was new. The reason I felt the need to write this down is the woods spit me out right next to a bunch of cool stores I've never seen before. One of them was a coffee shop I'd never heard of, so I figured I'd give it a try.
The place was cooler than I could've imagined- alternative music was playing over the speakers, skull decor, and almost all the drinks had silly edgy names to match the aesthetic. I ordered a tea called "The Cure" (lemon, ginger, and just a hint of mint mixed together with some honey), then decided to do a little people watching while I waited for it to cool.
It was by no means crowded, but it was still fascinating to see that literally everyone there had an alternative look. There was an incredibly fun mixture of subcultures, but I found myself coming back again and again to this one punk looking guy there.
His hair was a grayish colour and he had a collection of piercings that complemented his jacket, which had a bunch of patches and some metal embellishments, including spikes. He was clearly pretty tall too; his chair looked tiny by comparison, and his legs didn't fit well under the table, leaving them pressed against the wood above them. Despite his obvious size and style, he still looked nervous to be there.
I know anyone can have anxiety, but there was something about seeing a man who would be labeled "trouble" by the average person being in such an uncomfortable state himself. I know it sounds mean, but the stark contrast was kind of amusing. I'd love to know how aware he is of the irony.
He noticed my staring, and I guess it made him uncomfortable because he rushed out pretty soon after catching on. As I drank my tea, I couldn't stop dwelling on the situation. I wish I could say I'm sorry; I never mean to stare for too long, but when something catches my eye it just... happens.
C'est la vie. I'll probably go back to the coffee shop again to try their other drinks, maybe a pastry too, so there's still a chance I'll see him again. Maybe I'll work up the nerve to apologize at this hypothetical next time.
Back to studying for the time being.

So, before I journey up route 119 I plan ahead for winona. I realise Ice type attacks are gonna do the best here unfortunately there are no ice types yet. BUUUUT I can get Ice beam and have pelliper to use them on! So I go to the game corner and gamble away (use a gameshark code because I'm fed up of the game corner grind) and buy some tms for later.
The first part of route 119 is perfect. Good training for manectric who gets to level 29 by the the weather institute where he does a great job against Shelly... I get a castform which I name Precipitate before I encounter May!
I knew she was coming but didn't know when. Fortunately I did have marshtomp in the lead so Slugma was an easy victory. Then comes Grovyle! OMG! He basically 2 shots all my pokemon so it comes down to a race of switch ins go to the yellow and switch out. I eventually switch to pelipper who can take 3 hits and use ice beam to to take it out but not before I lose manectric to get the free switch. I should have gone for exploud really but it was my last shot. Pelipper then easily took care of Lombre with a wing attack. I had no idea grovyle would do so much with leaf blade. I kinda blame me forgetting it is a special attack this generation and I have no good special defenders really but still sceptile is gonna be scary.
Losing Manectric is a real wrench in the works. He was important for a variety of reasons and losing him means I need to rely on Magneton who is a stronger pokemon but it is a real shame as now I can't use manectric in later games. Its going to make future water type battles much tougher in later games.

With that I enter the most unique place in pokemon and honesltly the most under developed place! I so wish there was more to it. But hey after a brief trip to get a Devon scope of whatever maguffin is needed and catching kecleon which I name Mango, I head to the gym.
The trainers are easy although the amount of double battles in this game is starting to get nerve-racking. They are more chaotic, It does not take long to reach winona and fortunately I manage it even with the very shallow level cap!

The battle with Winona goes brilliantly. I have a plan and it perfectly executed. I start with Marshtomp who icebeams Swablu for a 2hko. Then in comes Tropius who without sunny day is not a threat. Again a 2HKO with ice beam. Next up is pelliper and I cannot damage this enough so I switch into magneton it uses protect on the switch in and I spark my way to victory. Next up comes Altaria which is great since Skarmory is the annoying one here. Knowing exactly what is going to happen I switch to pelliper to avoid the earthquake and finish altaria with an ice beam. Last off is skarmory and after a few calculations I realise it basically cannot damage me enough so 3 hits with Ice beam takes it down. Surf would have done more but I messed up and didnt teach it to Pelipper.

Overall a resounding victory one of the easiest yet. Its quite the trek to the next gym I'm just hoping all my pokemon survive the trip.
Badges won: 38

49 sounds excellent!
(Referencing This List)
OK!!! SO!!!! I may have... started this. It's going to be a short one, but it's hella fluffy and fairly crack-y and I'm very much enjoying writing it. #7 will be finished and posted first, at some point in the next week, but #49 will follow on shortly after!! :D
Here's a sneak peek for each of them, to keep you going!!
#7:
“Arthur! Oh thank God you’re all ok, I knew you’d think of something.” Arthur quirks both eyebrows and smirks as Morgana rolls her eyes at his annoyingly smug face, but doesn’t have time to make an actual comment before the Prince holds an arm out to the door: “Come, we should get out of here as soon as-” He’s interrupted by his manservant, staring at Gwen’s brother with a wide eyed confusion: “Elyan?!” Gwen’s brother, who’d previously only had eyes for Gwen and the mysterious Prince he felt the need to eye up, whips his gaze over to the servant, his face morphing into shock as his hand drops from Gwen’s shoulder: “Merlin!” All sense of flirting and the exasperation that follows it is rapidly drained from the room as Gwen, Arthur, and Morgana look between the two other men with apprehensive confusion, all jumping slightly when the tense silence is broken by badly hushed laughter and overlapping voices as Merlin and Elyan bound to each other, embracing tightly: “Oh my God, I can’t believe it’s-” “It’s been so long! How have you-”
#49:
He takes the picturesque route to Gaius’ domain, walking leisurely past windows that look out on rainbow scattered flower gardens, and paintings that had always made his eyes go wide and starry, as a child and still now, as an adult. Arthur isn’t quite sure why he’s being so laid back, for once, about his servant’s tardiness (he knows exactly why, but he’s hardly going to admit to himself, least of all anyone else, that he thinks Merlin works far too hard and deserves a break, whether that comes in the form of causing some amusing trouble, or snoring and drooling into his pillowcase for an extra couple of hours), but that doesn’t spur him on, and he continues to gaze out of sunny windows and into the eyes of, immortalised in form but forgotten in name, legends. When he finally gets there some ten minutes after he begins his search, he doesn’t bother knocking, walking in without a care in the world, his hands held loosely behind his back in the faux visage of Royal pomposity that he normally displays in the presence of his servant, purely because it winds the other man up; Arthur is rather in the mood for a round of gentle insults and sneer-disguised grins.
Stick with me Gang!! I love you all!!!

Sorry to hand you yet another Crane Wives song but uh. I associate Queen of Nothing with both Sunny and Omori (I feel some lyrics fit one more than the other), but all in all a song about some trauma boys
BESTIE YOU SHOULD NEVER FEEL SORRY ABOUT THROWING SONGS AT ME!!!! THAT SHIT'S MY JAM!!! i threw two mili songs at you anyway this is just equivalent exchange
ooooh, the vibes are already a hit...this song fucking slaps too mmmm
OOOGH THE WHOLE FIRST VERSE. I CAN ALREADY SEE THE SUNNY VIBES.... especially the lyrics "'Cause I've been watching from the backseat/Watching the world slipping past me" 'cause like...yeah,, he basically is watching his dreams from the backseat while omori takes over, at least for the events of the game. at least in my headcanon lmao, i don't remember if that's true or not(it's like, just implied if anything iirc)
and the chorus sounds like a reply from omori....the first lyric of the first verse being "stop the car, i wanna get out" and the first lyric of the chorus being "isn't this what you wanted?" MMMMMMMM
ok imma be real with you chief and i may be big brained here so while the third verse has sunny energy.
hear me out.
it sounds more like a cry for help from dream basil.
the lyrics "Like a moth in the night/I'm desperate for a minute in the light/'Cause everywhere that I go/Something pulls me to the shadows" sounds like a basil trying so so hard to get out of his prison but omori silences him before he could. the lyric "and it's always saying my name, calling to me" can allude to their "friendship"
alternatively, if we're going back to the sunny perspective, that verse could also be him scrambling to remember any semblance of the truth(and the memories buried with it) but of course, omori still stopping him. or something haunting him. either one works >:D
...oh my god.
"On and on to the next town/Can we slow down?/Time isn't running out"
.....this feels like a hikki route song now. specifically the abandon ending. like seriously. think about it. sunny staying inside and moving away in the end...on and on to the next town...iirc one major theme in the hikki route is that sunny can still save himself if he tried...time isn't running out...
again, the chorus REALLY feels like a reply from omori with the other lyrics being from sunny. try to recontextualize the song into a duet between them and you'll prolly see what i mean
once again you absolutely hit the nail on the head siren!!! i'm throwing this in my playlist and thinking of animatics as i type
