HEEEEEY HELLO

I'm working on an art for an answer to a text in my inbox, but on the way I've decided to just draw Zodiac in this moment, BECAUSE I HAVEN'T DRAWN HIM AT ALL TECHNICALLY

and there's gonna be meowing about him, because I tend to mention Kys' eldritch beings a lot, but they've only appeared in a post with his reference that I DON'T REALLY LIKE THAT MUCH NOW

Zodiac is a smaller version of Leader of Creation, who in turn is a lesser part of Polairis, which gave him a separate conciousness and power, and Polairis is kind of like a judgement but who doesn't tend to make laws, it likes to observe the existing, Leader follows that too, even though has an immeasurable urge to create EVERYTHING with its power, and doing this in the local circle of himself, Kys, Pearl's Reader and sometimes Moondial

Zodiac was created when Kys started to go to the zee, and he wasn't created just by the Leader's desire, but Kys was always kinda timid and could wish for a support from his side, and ever since Zodiac is an unchageable main officer on Asterism (lol it's a name of Kys' ship, it's silly to give them names related to stars)

as a main and first officer, he would do everything where there's not enough hands or knowledge, Leader himself has made Asterism out of anything that the Moondial could find in the zee (it doesn't give a shit about fathomking YEAH), he knows it from start to finish, and he also knows about the workings of living organisms' bodies so sometimes he even could be a surgeon, and as Kys started to look for officers with different specializations, he would take part in different officer roles while those were empty (I'm making a crew for Kys out of officers from sunless sea), and in result he usually works as a cook, moving the the stuff, tends to spend time in the cargo because he doesn't need a separate cabin, sometimes he jokingly counts as a cargo and not a crew member himself

true neutral, guite polite and non-confrontational, tends to just do the work given to him by Kys (he listens to the others from time to time), with an eldritch being behavior, it's not that difficult for him to act organically and natural, but not so rare he likes to act unnatural for usual people, because he liks to observe their reactions, nothing going beyond limits or annoying, just a bit of a regular confusion

still follows Polairis when possible, so from his side accepts many things as normal and doesn't try to change anything on his own wish, can only interfere if Kys asks for help and it becomes his work

his look is very bizarre, because he can be bizarre, even if somebody tells him about that, why should he care

he could be an unremarkable figure in a cape or a mask (uh, more human-looking mask), but it would raise even more questions and a ground for (already incorrect) speculation, and in that way he is just some kind of a thing, not even pointing at what anything could be referencing, maybe he's some sort of a relic? or a being from polythreme or red science? a person without knowledge couldn't tell, so general people only can take him as one of the many oddities of Neath

continuing with his look, it's neither hair nor fur, technically those are thin fibers, gather and formed, are rough and inflexible to the touch (be careful to not get splinters)

even if you remove the fastenings they would keep the same shape, though would get messy with time

about the way he talks, thankfully not directly into your mind (or something worse, YEAH MOONDIAL-), he has no throat, so he just produces the sound waves, using his voice, loud enough for the listener to hear him, in theory he can imitate any kind of voice or even any kind of sound, not even depending on the volume

(and I guess length, I found it funny that clay men didn't need to make any pauses in their talking, that's literally Zodiac if he spoke some more)

his look isn't just weird, but works in a similar way too

his body and material mostly resembles wood, so he could be compared to a puppet or clothes-colonies, but he has only one "puppeteer", a shard of a star

bodies of the Leader and Polairis work in the same way, the power of the shard lets you bend hard objects like joints, and use the fabric as muscles, but actually Zodiac's shard isn't that big, especially so that he could remake the objects (at max he can hold the items next to the mask, as if he held those with "teeth"), and yet this element is very powerful, literally a physical part of a judgement, but it's also practically impossible to get it for yourself, since Zodiac is still stronger than a regular person and wouldn't mind to scratch your face with the claws, break your neck and throw as an example in the zee, you would still need to take his mask off somehow (and it's pretty sturdy in an itself), and the shard itself still has its own will and can become quite dangerous

I don't know how ooc it is in context of fl/ss/Neath, but a lore of this kind surely exists in my mind and it just HAPPENED and now they're all in their own atmosphere

and a little fact at the end, Kys associates with an eight-pointed star, Polairis with a six-pointed star, and Leader and Zodiac with a five-pointed star, so he has as an example 5 tails on his head

What’s interesting is how jimin is taehyungs “soulmate” but Tae never mentions jimin in lives, never really comments on his posts or lives.

Taehyung will mention Jungkook any single chance he gets on posts & live like if he doesn’t he will lose his community.

Jungkook will mention jimin any chance he gets, comments on posts & comments on his lives but rarely Taehyung.

Jimin will rarely mention any of them maybe once in 2-3 lives. Only comments on jks lives, no tae’s. (Only mentioned Tae twice in like 6 lives) (Jungkook once or twice if asked to say he hasn’t seen him/comment about watching his live ect) He mostly talks about suga, Jin, Hobi.

The dynamic is confusing and interesting. It’s like….

Taehyung > Jungkook

Jungkook > Jimin

Jimin > Jin, Suga, Hobi (+ JK)

Jimin hasn’t met up with Taehyung twice now (didn’t wait at the airport, didn’t text or call, randomly posted on weverse instead of just texting Taehyung + didn’t show up to work out with him)

Like is V desperate for JK to appear his best friend but JK seems to only talk about jimin and wanting to hang with him and jimin is mostly spending time with members at hybe & working on stuff. So it’s like what are their dynamics as of now.

I feel like this one is going to be long and wordy and perhaps all over the place. It is what it is. Lol.

Ok, so let's start with your base line @malecsma1a , which to me is wrong when it comes to JM. JM does mention JK. He seeks out comments about him to have a reason to, but also talks about him or listens to his songs or comments on his lives (actively seeking JK out). JM is way more careful than JK, who in an essence doesn't give a flying fuck what people think of him. The only reason JK hasn't done more at this point is because he's respectful of his partners wishes. A partner that at this point in time is not ready to make that move yet. It's their current contracts with the company, it's their looming military service, it's their families, it's the fandom, it's who knows what it is, he's just not ready for that yet.

So JM is cautious and he goes with the easy subjects to talk about, initiating talk about, Jin and Hobi. Suga not so much (unless it was during their promotional period). I'm trying to think when he talked about RM last, and the only thing I can think of is during his Billboard #1 live telling us RM congratulated him. I might be wrong.

Anyway, JM initiates talk about them cause they are easy. Easy subjects, easy connections, just easy. Or, more like safe.

As for JK, ooh he wants to talk about him, he's itching to talk about him. You can see it in this pre-release lives when he seeks out the comments about JK and answers them or he listens to Euphoria and doesn't stop talking about JK. Did you see how happy JM was during his post recording live when JK spammed his comments? It's just that JM needs a reason to be able to talk about JK, cause you know, Jikook are kind of a taboo subject. Brining up JK out of nowhere for JM is a landmine, a ticking bomb, so he's careful. I just wanted to clear that up. If JM doesn't mention JK it's not for lack of wanting to. JK is on his mind just like JM is on JK's.

That's the JM baseline.

Now let's please move on with another baseline statement that you haven't mentioned, one that HAS to be said time and time again.

Not seeing it or hearing it happen, most certainly does not mean it isn't or didn't happen.

That one is lacking in your ask.

It feels like you are making assumptions on relationships based on the very very limited public interaction we are getting from them.

Many a times we hear from the members about messages they have sent each other on their chat group or privately, messages we would have zero knowledge about if not for them telling us about them. How many interactions like that don't they tell us about do you think? I can tell you without any doubt that 99.9% of their interactions with each other are unknown to us. Online and off. And this definitely includes JM and Tae and most obviously JK and JM.

You mention 2 interactions between JM and Tae. The first we wouldn't even know about if not for Tae telling us during his live. The second we wouldn't have know about either if not for JM's cheeky Weverse post and Tae's snappy answer. How many more interactions are there that neither shared with us? We have no way of knowing. As for the airport Weverse interaction, it's obvious that they weren't going to be riding home together, as there were 2 cars waiting for them. So maybe say hi at the airport on the way out or something like that. JM had a skip in his walk, he was excited to get to the car and home (to someone else that was probably just a little more important to him) so he decided not to wait for Tae. Oopsy. These conversations they have on Weverse are for our benefit. They are done for the fans, period. Because again, we all know they have their group chat and each other's phones. Maybe they do it to show all's well between them, because of the buzz about things not being ok, maybe another way of keeping in contact with the fans, Idk.

I digress.

Your bottom line question was about the dynamics. How they have changed? Have they changed?

Idk what is going on, if there is something going on, between JM and Tae.

We know about two times they didn't end up getting together. But we know they were planning to, and at the same time we don't know if there are other times they did meet up.

We can also deduct from those two times that they are obviously on speaking terms.

You are right to say that Tae barely mentions JM. He didn't even congratulate him publicly on his solo album nor his Billboard #1, and that is strange for someone that is his supposed soulmate. But this could be something done in agreement with JM. We just don't know. I do not want to make assumptions about the state of their relationship with near to no information. JK is obviously ok with Tae. And dare I say that I don't think he would be so ok with Tae if Tae did something to badly hurt JM? Because even without seeing them in one frame for months now, JK has made it abundantly clear who his no. 1 priority is, and that's JM.

Taekook

JK has clearly gotten closer with Tae since their 2020 issues. It's taken some time, and I do think that JM being less available during his preparations for the album and promotions brought them closer still. But when I say close, it's by no means as close as he is with JM. Dare I also say that the kind of closeness is also different. It's a matehood kind of closeness. It's them being those friends that play online video games together, that go out once in a while with friends, for fun, for company. I really don't think there is more to that friendship. Tae is not someone JK finds solace in. The people he would turn to would be first and utmost JM, then perhaps Hobi and Jin. Tae is fun and games. A good distraction when there was no schedule, when he was off quilter, when JM was gone (in a sense, not really, but also not as available to him as he was used to up until not too long ago).

And we have Tae and his ever so often one sided mention of JK (one sided cause like you said, we barely have the same from JK). Is JK the only member he's in touch with? I doubt it. I have 1001 things going through my head right now as to why Tae is doing this. Sadly, none of them are him being genuine. I'm sorry. I love him, but this thing he's been doing, the one that even the best of ours (and I'm not including myself in that group, cause I was seeing it before and not loving it too much) are starting to question his motives about, it feels wrong. And it's not because of him championing his friendship with JK, which good for them, I'm happy they had each other to fall to when everyone else was super busy. It's the timing, it's the way he does it. Maybe if he wasn't so damn obvious about it, maybe if he was more suave, sophisticated in the way he was doing it. But he's not. I think he needs to take a lesson or two from JK, Mr. JM spoiler king and champion fan and supporter.

So, friends yes. Nothing more nothing less. Oh, and did I talk about what the company might be pushing here? No? Maybe I better not at this point. Maybe I better wait and see how things turn out, cause even if this is what the company wants, the big unknown here is just how much JK will comply.

Jikook

As for Jikook. Those two are as good as ever. Good as gold. They are doing private right now. Here we come to that ever so important baseline you forgot about: not seeing them doesn't mean they aren't there nor does it mean that they are not happening.

Here's one of the times I've talked about what we aren't seeing and why it means absolutely nothing:

I've talked about this multiple times, but this is the one I found on the run.

Remember back in mid 2022, after they went on a very long break, when there was all the talk about Jikook not interacting on SM, not being seen out together? Remember that? "Jikook have broken up" was all over the place (just like it was a second before JM's album release and JK's "have no mistake I love JM" lives) . Including coming from the usual insecure Jikookers that need the two to prove time and time again they are in a relationship (cause that's how life is isn't it? We have to prove to our surroundings that we are together otherwise we aren't?). Anyway, then we had the Seoul concerts, they were more than fine, LV, omg they were on fire, new tattoos included. Got back from LV and again that roller coaster of them not being seen together not interacting was in a loop. Good thing we had our president of the Jikook fan club to post from Washington showing us them out together. Good thing we had the JITB party BTB to show us the talk about them not interacting in the party were bull crap. Once again, seeing that content should have taught us a lesson - not seeing them initially in the clips and photos leaking from the party (well almost not seeing them, cause we did have that clipet (clip + snippet) of them in the corner JK's hand on JM's waist) doesn't mean they weren't doing their thing. You know, in the dark corner JK embracing JM's hand and all... and there was more. Believe me there was so much more that went on in that party that we haven't seen on tape.

Not seeing it doesn't mean it's not happening.

And before Busan, and then after Busan and before JM's album release, see the pattern?

JM and JK they are intimate. We kind of know it, let's not kid anyone. They have been together for years, they are sexually active, they are a long term couple. Yet, we have never seen them even so far as kiss have we? Does that mean they didn't or don't? I don't like talking about this stuff here, cause it's private, it's theirs, and that's why I'm stopping at the very innocent example of kissing, but I'm trying to make a point here. We don't see what they do 99% of the time, and I'd say since the hiatus it's already 99.9% of the time.

And yet, JK in the past few months, since Feb 2023, and even more so since mid March 2023 (his white day live) is telling us everything (in the way that he can at the moment). He's telling us they are still very much ok. He's telling us he knows stuff that we don't, stuff that he wouldn't know if they were not still very close. He's showing us just how much he cares for JM, how much he loves and supports him. He's telling us they are seeing each other, even if we don't know they are.

And JM in one song, in which he included JK, told us (so yes, the song is for us in the essence of him wanting us to know, but the letter is addressed to JK) how deep his feelings are for JK and that they are forever. JK joined him on that one.

They are good.

They are forever.

They both told each other and us that.

Look, I know you miss them. Miss seeing them. Miss seeing their interactions. I do too. So so much. Cause they are just happiness and hope all in one. Seeing their interactions, seeing how much love there is there it's precious and I miss it so much. But I'm not making the mistake, and don't you either, of concluding that not seeing these interactions means they aren't happening. They just aren't showing them to us, in the content that is.

There are a few reasons that come to mind as to why the company is doing this, although sorry but they are just being stupid. The lack of Jikook content at this point is more suspicious than any kind of content they might have had together under official supervision. For two obviously very close people, whatever label you want to attach to them, the lack of official content is screaming "why the fuck aren't they paired together?"

Not to mention the irrevocable fact that they are the two with the most electrifying chemistry. There is a reason that they used to be constantly paired together. They just work.

The company are the ones pushing these units and they have done so since the hiatus. It's Jihope and Yoonmin on the one hand and Taekook on the other.

The rhythm of Korea with BTS was one of the more obvious to see this agenda and the fact that it was JM and Suga chosen to champion Busan, yeah, felt weird to me.

Was there supposed to be chemistry? If there was, I didn't see it.

Side note: Notice how JM is wearing his special necklace in this official content. He doesn't do that. They are styled for these kind of clips. I do think that was a statement. Maybe not one necessarily for us.

In any case, that is one example.

You want another one?

JM's dance practice BTB is another. We wouldn't have seen JK there if not for JM's comment during his live about JK coming to see him practice. That BTB felt rushed and the JK part of it was evidently highly edited. Take what they show us there, less of a minute of JK being there, not even showing us his arrival (which means not showing us JM's reaction to his arrival), and compare it to the edit of Hobi coming to visit JM during the Like Crazy MV shoot. One pairing obviously being highlighted (oh, for months), the other downplayed.

There is more. All in the name of Hybe's end game. Yes, I really don't think this is being done to protect them. And I also don't think this is coming from them. If it was, JK wouldn't have rebelled the way he has against the company. JK's a good boy, he's compliant as a whole, but he is also a non conformist, and has his limits and he is being held back for too long. There are things they want to do and they aren't allowed to, and what we've seen in the past couple of months from them is their form of rebellion. What they are allowing themselves to do at the moment. JK deleting his IG. Make no mistake, that was his big fuck you to the company. His lives, not giving a fuck. Him supporting JM in the way he can being the loudest that he can under the circumstances. JM showing up in JK's comments but not only showing up, openly flirting with him. This was them saying "absolutely nothing has changed between us".

I told you this was going to be unnecessarily long, didn't I?

Well, bottom line is that I don't think the dynamics between JM and JK have changed, they are same old same old.

And to be truthful, I don't think that the dynamics between JK and Tae have changed either. Yes, they are closer in the sense that when JM is away JK is spending more time with Tae (either online or meeting up). They spend more time together but make no mistake, the dynamic is the same as it always was with those two, you could clearly see that in that Feb live when Tae showed up in JK's comments and then they went live on IG.

There are those that don't like me comparing, but I love to compare, cause that's how you know it's different, right?

The silence moments between JK and Tae in that live were outright awkward.

Then take the last time we had Jikook in a live together - JM's birthday back in October 2021, a Jikook masterpiece, lol. Their silences are electrifying.

It's the difference between staying quiet cause you have nothing you really want to or know to say and staying quiet because you want to say everything but are worried it will be too much.

Those dynamics were there before, and they are still there.

Did I forget someone?

Oh yes, Vmin.

Yeah, I have no idea. Those two are keeping us in the dark. Many think there is something weird going on with them. Could be. Could also be that everything is fine and they are just not talking about each other.

HELLO 1 AM! I WATCHED ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO EPISODE 14 (that's where I stopped) TODAY AND I'M SO EXCITED. NISHI! ASAHI! KUROO AND KENMA! NEKOMAAAAA!

I had a very good time with these past few episodes, thank you.

Nishinoya's dedication to Asahi kind of makes me want to cry (in a good way). Their dynamic is honestly the right mix of soft and Nishinoya pushing Asahi to be better and to keep trying. I love them so much! Maybe because I have a massive soft spot for Asahi, but THAT'S NOT THE POINT.

Meanwhile, Suga actually does make me sad. My boy is so willing to put the team ahead of himself and his desire to play and it hurts. When he straight up went to Ukai and was like "I know he's the better choice, so it's alright with me if you choose him as a starter" AND THEN IT CUT TO DAICHI AND ASAHI LISTENING IN???? HIT ME. HIT ME DIRECTLY IN THE FEELS. I HAVE BEEN ATTACKED BY THIS SHOW. Sugawara Koushi please let me hold your hand. You deserve the world and more.

I WAS SO HAPPY TO SEE NEKOMA. KENMA AND KUROO ESPECIALLY. THOSE ARE MY BOYS. KUROO TETSUROU (someone please tell me what the official spelling of his given name is because I have no fucking idea) WHY MUST YOU BE SO FUCKING HOT. KENMA IS BABY. BABY BOY. And also his dislike of people is so real to me. I feel him. This man is me in a nutshell, actually. I'm also excited to see more of Nekoma as a whole! I have very limited knowledge on the rest of them and I want to know more. And when does my beanpole idiot son, Lev, show up? I can't wait to find out. Taketora, I fucking love you. He and Tanaka are a delightful duo, bonding over their shared adoration of Kiyoko. Beautiful stuff right there.

Since this IS my OC blog, I feel inclined to mention that the Haikyuu OC is alive and well. I kind of adapt her for whatever anime I'm watching at a given moment, and my Haikyuu adaption of her is definitely my favorite! Might talk about/draw her soon!

Long ass ramble about Christianity stuff under the cut idk

I roam the anti Christiaity tags quite a lot, and a common thing I've notcied, especially with atheists, is people acting like Christians are all just stupid people who believe whatever they're told.

Well, I'm sure it's very easy to sit and tout yourself as more superior and intelligent than these foolish people who believe in fictional deities, especially when you haven't been raised Christian yourself.

Just having the knowledge of the world outside the confines of Christianity doesn't magically undo being taught all your life that not only is the "outside" (non-Christians) the enemy, but they will try and trick and deceive you to pull you away from god.

It is drilled in from the start that all humans are inherently evil and without god you have no worth. You are told over and over and over that without god you are a worthless, sinful person who will suffer in hell for all eternity.

Let me say that again: over and over and over, non-Christians are described not as non-believers that are people too, but the ENEMY. They are not to be trusted or befriended because they can lead you off the righteous path to heaven and into eternal damnation because they don't have the holy spirit to protect them from Satan. Non-Christians are dehumanised and treated like a threat.

On top of that, over and over and over, you are told you are worthless and evil. Does that make you feel bad about yourself? Lower your self-esteem? Come now, silly, that's just Satan trying to pull you away from god! God will make you happy and ensure you are saved. Aren't you just so grateful that he loves you despite your evilness?

Now add the fact that Christian parents limit their children's exposure to other beliefs or non-Christians and tell them that what other people say that is against god or the bible are lies from the devil. Your entire community agrees with this. The adults in your life agree with this, and those that don't are made out to seem like poor lost souls going to hell.

Do not think about what the enemies are telling you. Do not listen to them. Those are the words of Satan leaving their mouths, you don't want to listen to Satan, do you?

Now they present "facts" about how the sinful world ruled by Satan hates good Christians like yourself and that Christians are oppressed. You can't doubt them, or you are doubting god, and if you doubt god, you are not a true Christian, and you will go to hell. Those lovely bible bedtime stories read by your parents describing terrible things happening to people who doubt god are sitting in the back of your mind.

Then add the fact that you are told that if someone is Christian, and especially a pastor, you can trust what they say because they speak the word of god. If they are wrong or a particularly bad person, then they're actually not a real Christian.

However, you are still told to spread the good news of god! Go tell people god is good, tell them they have a chance because of Jesus' love and mercy! Jesus isn't like your average man. He's not like those mean sinful people because he is the perfect son of god.

Naturally, this will get mixed or negative or even aggressive reactions. And what does that do? It will simply prove that the "enemy" hates Christians and is too blinded by Satan to hear the word of God.

The outside won't show you the kindness and love and acceptance that your church has always shown. So, you stay because to you, that is your only place of safety and love and salvation.

A lot of this mainly applies it you're raised Christian, and most people who convert to Christianity were raised Christian too and then stopped believing before falling into the manipulation once again.

But what about those who weren't raised Christian?

Oh, right! Many Christian organisations support and donate to hospitals, charities, youth hostels, homeless shelters, etc, where they then go and preach. My grandfather is a pastor, and he preaches at local prisons.

What a more perfect time to talk to the "enemy" about how they can find salvation, purpose, and safety in god than when they are at their worst mentally and physically? When they are desperate for any way to cope or a way out?

I still think about the time I sat through my church's proudly announcing that they "helped" impoverished communities by spending thousands of Rands on... giving them all bibles! Having faith in God will help them more than the church ever could, apparently.

Now they can prevent you from asking questions all the easier! And you certainly can't be educated about sex because that's bad and sinful unless it's with your god given spouse for the purpose of having children.

Lack of education is also a wonderful advantage to the church, especially when they prevent you from pursuing any further education by claiming academia spreads lies.

In fact, almost all of the kids at the church my family goes to are homeschooled by their good Christian parents who will prevent them from being exposed to the "enemy's lies". Surely keeping them from socialising with other people with different beliefs and controlling what they are taught (even if you as a parent are not qualified to teach!) will be a big help of preventing them from being a lost sheep!

You can't possibly tell if they're spreading misinformation about sex and pregnancy or sexuality as a whole. You don't know a single thing about safe sex or contraceptives or stds. All you know is sex between a married man and woman is beautiful and pure, and anything else is evil! You are tainted and no longer pure if you engage in such things.

The bible even says a married man looking another woman with lust has already committed adultery (thought crimes!), and surely sexual thoughts or feelings that you don't really understand are evil too. So, talking about sex and learning about it? Hah, absolutely not!

(Now everyone quickly act confused about teenage pregnancy or families with no access to this education having more children than they can support being extremely common)

This is basically a long-winded way of saying that acting like Christians are just foolish people who haven't been in the real world glosses over how much manipulation, fearmongering and gaslighting is used to control people and ensure they don't break from the religion. And, shocking at it may be, even if you do manage to leave, it does not magically undo all that's been drilled into you.

It's easy to sit and act like you're so very superior and far more intelligent for seeing all these *obvious* things, especially if you haven't experienced being in the actual religion.

Could you give some advice for your language learning journey (material wise and also how you stay motivated)?

Hello! ^^ Well I'm not an expert but I will try to help. So, to get something clear about my journey, I didn't get a good start by myself.

Journey part (feel free to skip it if you wish, I just felt some context might help with motivation cause I'm a slow learner and struggled to find my pace, as well)

I started listening to Japanese music in 2012, but only found the motivation to start learning the language in 2015. I'd already heard I needed to learn hiragana and katakana first so I was discussing that with a friend, who had then suggested me a YT channel, which I unfortunately no longer follow, but basically there was a dude who taught people how to play Shogi, the Japanese chess, and just so happened to have a playlist with teaching people how to write hiragana and katakana. The reason why she suggested that guy was because she too wanted to learn obviously and found that his explanations were very good and he also wrote the actual characters during the recording so that you could copy it. Nowadays that is so easy to find though, like, I don't know if you've already learnt yours, but if you haven't, try "how to write hiragana & katakana" or sth similar. There are so many Japanese people teaching stuff on YT nowadays that will be the easiest thing to find. After that, I wanted to learn some kanji obviously and get into grammar. That's how I had learnt English too, so essentially, my thought process was trying to imitate what my English teacher had done while teaching me when I was little (In Greece we learn foreign languages in more detail in separate schools from our main ones hence why I personally went for that.) So I kept searching and found JapanesePod101 but quickly realized any free materials were limited so I kept looking and found a grammar guide which I still have and I could mail it to you if you want, but it was a bit too much, I have to warn you. I also found a list of kanji for N5 level and started copying them in a notebook. Some people learn easier by just repeating stuff out loud, personally I am the copy paste type, so I wrote for example one kanji, then covered it with another object and tried to write it from memory and then again and again. 10-15 times depending on how difficult I considered the kanji. But then came the problem of motivation. I wasn't studying as much as I wanted and I felt I needed a teacher, not only so that I studied more but also because I needed sb to tell me when I am doing sth right or wrong since I had 0 knowledge of the language. I got lucky and there was 1 Japanese woman who was teaching in my island and her prices were low so I discussed it with my family and we agreed I could give it a try. All that happened in 2018, so I kept trying by myself for 3 years without significant progress. So this woman had me sit a test to see what I knew so far and then we started having lessons in a class normally. And that's how I actually got to learn part of the language well. In 2020 it was I think, that she decided to drop teaching for JLPT and do only speaking cause she herself learnt any languages she spoke without learning grammar, or writing and yeah we had a big disagreement on that and well I left cause I wanted to learn the language as a whole. That woman could speak 4 languages but all broken and I wanted to be fluent. So then I looked around, found nth on my island, but thanks to the whole Covid situation more schools in my country had started distant learning programs so I found another school in Athens within the same year and continued with them. The lady teaching me there was more of my kind of educator so I kept learning with her until last September. The reason I stopped was for finances and also because I had learnt all the grammar I needed for N3 but lacked severely in kanji and vocab so I felt it was better to take sometime to enrich those and keep revising my grammar until this December when I hope to eventually try the test.

Advice

I will list materials in the next paragraph, I will stick to motivation and advice for this one. Unfortunately I can't be very spot on this, cause each person learns differently, but I think that if you lack motivation there are 2 ways to approach it: The romantic one and the logical one. The romantic one is finding a passion around the language to keep you going and the logical is to find an affordable teacher online.

When it comes to passion, this is what drives me in life and I don't know if I should suggest it to others, but passion has taken many people far in life, and the fact I am personally failing doesn't mean it's a bad approach xD. That's how I learnt English too. It is expected from every kid in Greece to learn it, but I was begging my parents before I even knew that was expected of me cause I absolutely loved foreign music and I wanted to understand the lyrics. I was obsessed and still am. Just the thought of being able to understand all those songs, and later, when I realized how commonly used it is, that I could explore stuff and meet people from every place in the world only added fuel to my fire. And the same thing happened with Japanese. I was soooo mad I couldn't understand what my favorites said, not every band had translated material online and I needed to know. Although, to be fair, there was more to it, it's my dream to work with these people so if I wanted to be serious with my goal, I had to learn the language and be able to communicate with them. So yeah, if you have any passion around your target language it helps. Be it arts, travelling, making friends, you name it. Only you know your own desires. However yeah, if you are dealing with mental illnesses or ADHD or several other factors that can affect your mood and learning flow, passion alone can be tough to use, hence why I too needed sth more than my romanticism to get a solid start.

As for the logical part, I think it speaks for itself. It's so much better to have sb keeping you on track and that I think is sth that worldwide approach to education is responsible for. We weren't taught many things by ourselves as children, there was always someone more knowledgable leading the way. So yeah I think it's important to have sb, either local or not who knows the language better than you, around, at first at least, so that you get a feeling of the language, if you know what I mean. Japanese is a language with completely different writing system and grammar rules than most western languages so, it's really hard expecting your brain to figure everything out by itself. Part of me thinks it's easier for Chinese people, because their writing system is similar (I could be wrong) but for a person not born around Asia, I think we all struggle, especially those of us with motivation and self-discipline, when it comes to education, issues.

So yeah, all in all I'd suggest you did both, like find sth that you know will benefit greatly from your learning the language and a teacher. However, if you are as shy as me or freaking out as much as me about how legit some online app with teachers is, I'd suggest you looked for either institutes or solo teachers in your region first, and only if you find nth, proceed with online stuff. I am in no way saying that you can't find a good teacher living somewhere else, I just personally freak out about money transactions with other countries, or if I don't know how legit the app is, fearing I will get scammed and stuff like that. Mostly irrational fears. ^^' And don't get too stressed about doing this long term. Even 1 year of studying with someone else might give you enough of a gist to continue by yourself. ^^ You will have established a routine with them, which you could then continue on your own instead of trying to make up a routine blindly.

Materials

Let's talk materials now.

If you are the book type, like me, you might benefit from a Genki book. Now you've probably heard of people tearing this book apart about how "not good" it is, but I learnt quite a lot from it and it's very beginner friendly imo. I have an archive link with both the 1st and 2nd Genki (https://archive.org/details/Genki/Genki-ElementaryJapaneseWorkbookI).

But these are just for some basic grammar and reading. You can't learn only with those. When it comes to your kanji, sure you can learn from Genki's list, but they are not very accurate to the level of the book. For example, the first Genki book has kanji I came across with my 2nd teacher in N4 class and she was shocked I knew them already xD. I was like "It was in Genki!" and she was so mad xD. She was making her own content for her lessons and using some photocopies from another beginner Japanese book I forget rn. But yeah your go-to for Kanji for N5 and N4 is "Nihongo Challenge N5-N4". For higher, I'm afraid there isn't one of the same name and you will have to turn elsewhere. (I have a pdf of that book if you want it too, feel free to send me your email address and I will send it ^^) As for vocabulary, I'd suggest "Tango 1000 Essential Vocabulary for the JLPT N5". Very good book. There was sb who had uploaded it on YT and I'd swear I had the link to it but can't find it in my bookmarks for some reason. That I have only in physical form I'm afraid and it's a bit tough to find for free somewhere, but if you find a link or choose to buy it, it's so good!

For listening, I'd suggest you started with a few simple ones like those in JP Launch (https://www.youtube.com/@JpLaunch). I haven't tried their grammar videos so I dunno how helpful those are, but their listenings are nice for a start, after you've learnt some basic vocabulary and grammar. You can search their channel for N5 listening or N4 or whichever is your level and you will get plenty of stuff. ^^ And each listening includes unknown words you might hear during the exercise so that you can jot it down and learn them. ^^ That is another big thing I'd suggest btw. Apart from a notebook for copying kanji and words however many times you need to learn them, I'd suggest you had one more, preferrably with many sections, I forget their name in English, in which you will be noting every new word you find. Cause learning vocab from lists is one thing but you might find many new words through texts you read and listening exercises. Keep track of them and learn them whenever you can. I personally have mine separated by hiragana so that if I ever find a word that looks familiar but can't remember if I've learnt it before, I can go to the hiragana it starts with and find it easier. That way I also know which words I need to revise. When you've learnt everything from these books and want to try mockup tests, straight up search JLPT N5/4/3 whatever and listening next to it on Youtube. There are many of them and, even though they are a bit simpler than the originals, they help a lot with testing what you get by ear. And they also have the solutions after each question or at the end of the video so that you know how well you did. ^^

For full mockup test papers I don't know what to suggest. I must have some in pdf still but most stuff I have are N4 if you want them.

As for where to look for teachers in case you find nth closeby, I found several on a site called italki. I eventually never contacted anyone but my first teacher had told me to search there so I bet they are legit. I remember there was a specific system with which I had to pay that I didn't like but you might not mind it.

What else.....I think I covered everything. You might find useful material in the official JLPT page too, for each level. I remember searching there before. Oh and try to write sentences. When you learn sth grammatical for example, try to write 5-10 sentences using it. You won't be able to test how well you did without a teacher but it's important to try, imo.

But yeah if you are an audio learner, do consider Japanese cinema and series as well. Anime can be fun but they usually speak slang or ways that most Japanese people don't use. Both my teachers had told me that. When you get more familiar with the language sure, try them without subs, but as your starting listening material, nope. Jrockers do tend to speak in ways you'd see in anime, and so do people in the gaming and anime fandoms too, but outside of those spaces not so many do it.

As for a dictionary for words and how to write each word: https://jisho.org/ It's super good! It has words, it has conjugations, sentence examples, little gif-style video for how you write each kanji to know with what turns you write each line, etc. Amazing site!

Aaaand finally for the speaking part, I have 0 suggestions. I too agree with people saying you need sb else to talk with to get used to it. So yeah if you can approach sb on social media, good, otherwise try Hellotalk (app) or Tandem (another app for language exchange)(haven't tried them yet but people on reddit say they are good).

ps: don't go hard on yourself if you can't study for hours on end. Just make sure you can free 30 minutes for it every day at first and with time you can get to more. I started with 20 minutes a day due to trauma, I used to study way more when I was still at school but being forced into a uni i didn't want ended up with me having hard time studying for even 10 minutes, but then slowly through learning Japanese, because I liked studying it too, it got to 20, then 30 and now I can read from 1-2 hours a day. Take it slow if you have to, just don't skip days unless you absolutely have to, cause that's how you break a routine and can be tempted to not go back to it.

That was too long, I apologize, but I really hope sth out of everything I mentioned helps. It's a tough language and keeping up greatly depends on sth that keeps you going back to it, I believe. If you are not naturally drawn to learning many languages for the fun of it, you need sth to hold on to it, so do look for it and hang on it for dear life. You mentioned that you've finished writing Gobelins, and I'm wondering if you're gonna raise money to produce it, or do it out of your own pocket? Either way, I'm very excited to hear it, hope your op goes well!

Thanks for a great question! There's definitely gonna be an Indiegogo fundraiser at some point before I start production, but the scale of that is going to need to depend on what my life is looking like at that time. In other words, when I’m physically able to devote time to the album again, I’m going to have to assess my capacity before deciding the scope of the project.

Basically, there's an "ideal" way I'd like to make Carnaval des Gobelins, with a physical edition, cool merch for backers, guest musicians and liner art commissions. I think it's gonna be the most satisfying experience for listeners and the best move from a "growing my business" point of view - producing that kind of stuff gives me a chance to order excess merch and another little revenue stream, which would take me a little step closer to making this my main job. But, it's also a big project to manage and as much as I want to do it that way, I'm not gonna bet on being physically well enough to do that until things are clearer. I'm pretty dang ill.

Then there are other options - like limiting that stuff to a digital version for Bandcamp and streaming, plus physical CDs that are a bit more pared-down in terms of liner content. And on the other side of the spectrum, there's just producing a digital album, like I did for The Wassailant, which while still a big project would be logistically simpler and would require the least amount of funding.

I'm going to run a fundraiser no matter what the scope ends up being and the reason for that is that I'm handling the production for C des Gs alone, in my studio. I have a great set-up and good technical knowledge nowadays and can make stuff with much higher production values without the spiralling costs of studio and engineer hire. However, to get the album done, I'm going to need to treat it as a part-time job for about a year and so I'm going to have to find a way to help me through that time financially. The reason I was able to finish The Wassailant within a year was because of all the time spent at home during the pandemic! I'm not going to start production until I find a new part-time day job anyway, so I certainly won't be trying to raise the sort of money to depend on! But I probably will be earning less from a day job while I work on the album and I will need a small amount to supplement that/keep for emergencies if something goes wrong for me in that time - so that I don't have to halt production part way through.

So the low-scope, digital-only version would still be a crowd-funded affair, just a fairly low scale one. For the big one with all the cool rewards and awesome CDs and everything, I guess my other mini-worry is I don't actually know whether the funding goals I’d have to set to produce all the awesome extras are actually realistic to what people can afford. I don’t know if I could fund a project at the same level as a Mechanisms album for example, because I don’t have the same reach the band did. But we’re probably looking at something comparable, cost-wise, to The Bifrost Incident (but closer to its goal, not the final amount it was pledged) to produce the “full scope” version. Plus, the last time I ran projected costs for the project was before the cost of living crisis, so I don't know right now whether the CD/merch suppliers' costs will have increased.

I genuinely feel a ton of support and goodwill from people like you who really want to listen and I know there are plenty of you! But also I truly don't want to assume anything from you, so we'll have to see how realistic it is to make the full bells-and-whistles version, financially or in terms of my capacity, nearer the time. The way I'm feeling as I type this is that I may run the Indiegogo with a lower inital goal and just a couple of reward tiers (aiming to fund production and release the digital album and a simpler physical edition) and try to do some of the other stuff like an expanded liner or producing merch (and making merch available at discounted rates to backers who want it) as stretch goals.

Anyway, that is almost definitely a much longer answer than you were looking for, so I'll stop now. I really do appreciate the great ask; having the chance to thing about a proper answer has helped me straighten a few conflicts in my head that were causing me a little worry. I'm sorry, this is the meme that popped into my head when I read that you were the same anon! xD But Howdy! You're coming back at me again with another sick question!

If each one of the main-cast characters of WIDFALI had to teach a class what would it be and what kind of teacher would they be?

(This post is long so I did a keep reading for you guys)

(First I wanna say, this really makes me want to do a second person AU where they are teachers at a college and hijinks ensue, vore/not vore related. I might have votes for the parts, who knows. It'd be something funny to do and you know me and ridiculous stuff).

Lynette: I either see her doing elementary school math, she'd be a mother hen to them and I can see her really trying to pump these kids up to learn, using treats, funny voices, the likes. Math is her best subject, she's not that great at science, history, or the likes. OR I can see her, not as a teacher per say, but a high school/ maybe college counselor. She'd try to listen and be there for them, and help get them help if its needed. (She might have went into one these careers, if she had more confidence. Fun fact, Lynette didn't pass high school and got her GED rather "late" so she doesn't think she could ever do any of this. Another reason why this is her best option to settle the disappoint, she thinks her family has in her).

Alexander: He's hilarious to think about in this scenario. I don't think he has the patience to teach anything that's not physical. So, a gym coach, most definitely. Not that he's not good at other subjects, but I think he'd get fired real quick. xD I can imagine him either doing this in high school, or college. He might prefer college since they are the most determined for those scholarships, so he could push them to the limit.

Drake: He's a weird one to think about. He's pretty well rounded, but most definitely a language (any) teacher. His classes would probably be calm for the most part, informative, and he'd be the hardest teacher to get a reaction from even if the kids, in high school, wanted to get one from him. He's very studious when learning new languages. It hasn't come up yet, but he knows a lot from Yexodele even though he has never been there, and videogames/movies that he's enjoyed. He has an appreciation and like for the sounds and writing for them.

Lev: This man should not be teaching. xD But, social studies/history. WEIRD right? I know. He actually has a vast knowledge of history, and given his sleep schedule, he has much more time to study it. Though, he likes competition, I can see him wanting to compete heavily with people, SO in college, he'd do business courses or law, he'd love to be able to sway court rooms, or beat someone at their own haggling game. Again, Lev has a plethora of knowledge. He likes to keep himself busy whether it be watching, reading, or DOING something. He'd be wicked at teaching it but it'd be a challenge to pass his class.

Claudia: You guessed it, SCIENCE. The humans magic. Lol. She actually loves it and has been trying to understand it but her Fae brain's like, "we could use magic to do this better though." If she stayed and focused on it, she would definitely be that crazy science teacher. She'd want to come up with some of the most out there but safe experiments for those she teaches. At least to make their class life a little more exciting.

Zilla: Oh boy- I'd say Psychology. I can see her really getting into it to find out what makes others tick, and how she can get them to follow along. (Makes her sound really manipulative, eh?) She'd like using it as a way to understand people better. As a teacher, she'd be strict but very open to debate and discuss topics. I feel like handling or keeping a classroom together wouldn't be a challenge for her, she'd use tactics based on their types to keep them in line.

(I don't think Viola counts as a main cast, as she's...a little different).

@edutainer2022 , I'm so terribly sorry, I somehow had this reply in my drafts and while I THOUGHT I'd posted it, I never had!!

So posting this reply VERY late (sorry!!!!!)

I really don't know TaG anywhere NEAR as well as I do TOS, so those are going to be a bit more uncertain, I'm afraid

When do you think they were being "themselves" the most?

tosJeff When he's at Tracy Villa with his family in most episodes / novels / comics. Jeff is IC most of the time in TOS, with only one or two real times where I'm a bit 'ehhhh' on it. Basically where he doesn't have to wear a 'mask' of any kind. He's a commanding figure, and used to being in charge / making the calls, and Virgil absoLUTEly gets his stubbornness from his father... but Jeff can and will back down and change his mind on things if presented with facts. He is, by todays standards, a bit distant and gruff with his sons, BUT all of his sons are adults who had independent lives before coming back for IR. He also is very clear in that he deeply loves his sons, and deeply cares for his friends as well (Kyrano, Penny, TinTin, Casey, etc). He is a gruff and controlled man, but he's a romantic at heart; intelligent and kind, with the same droll /dry sense of humor that Scott has. He tends to be strict when there's a mission on, but when 'off-duty' he's more relaxed / less strict. He also is a pacifist in many ways, always trying to find a peaceful solution that involves no fighting.

tagJeff We don't really get to meet or interact with TaG Jeff all that often - we're TOLD about him many times, but direct interactions are limited to the final episode of the series. I'd say Jeff is pretty IC for the whole time he's present though? Or at least he is consistant in action / behavior the full episode with no 'well that doesn't fit' moments, and how he acts fits with what we're told of him in previous episodes / seasons. From what little we see of him in TaG, and what's said about him, I'd assume he likely has a very simular personality to tosJeff - he seems less stubborn and a bit less gruff / more relaxed - more like how Jeff is when he's 'off-duty' in TOS, even when tagJeff is on-duty.

tosScott At Tracy Villa and when in command on a mission in again most episodes / novels / comics. Scott is pretty darn consistent across most of the continuities in TOS, rather like Jeff is. Which given HOW MUCH media / real life time that covers is honestly very impressive. Now granted, Scott acts a bit different in the novels and comics then he does in the TV show, but THAT mostly comes down to "Scott gets up to more in novels and comics, in particular we see him on solo missions / taking part directly in missions more often than we do in the TV show". He's the same basic CHARACTER, we just get to see him doing more stuff. Scott is consistently quick-witted, silver-tongued, brave, and determined (with a very strong protective streak). He has a very commanding personality, and defaults to a leadership role while still consistently seeking out and listening to / following those with more knowledge about locations or items than he does. When off duty, Scott tends to be very droll and laid-back. Very VERY slow to anger, and when he does lose his temper it tends to be a cold and controlled anger. He also can be very ruthless and unlike Jeff, is NOT a pacifist but instead more of a 'you let me be and don't harm others, and I'll let you be, but please remember I have a VERY big stick' type.

tagScott He seems to be overall consistent in the show to me? Most of the moments that don't quite fit are likely down to the 'for the kids' elements to the writing, and the more episodic writing style (compared to the comics and novels, where were VERY serial. ogTV show was super episodic too, not arguing that). Like... Scott seems to have an issue show up in one episode, then it's mostly gone by the end, even if it doesn't seem to be directly addressed? But I honestly think that's down to the writing / target age group and he seems to be mostly IC for those bits, if that makes sense? tagScott is as selfless, intelligent, and brave as tosScott, but he also is impulsive (canonically often doesn't think things through, just leaps without looking) and has a short fuse that bursts into an intense fiery temper when he looses said temper. He also doesn't have a ruthless bone in his body and borders on a pacifist (pacifist with a short temper, but still)

(moving this one up as it relates so directly to the first question)

When do you think they acted the most ooc?

tosJeff For me he was the most OOC in TB6, specifically with his obsession with a "we need a Thunderbird 6!", to the point of not letting Brains go on the maiden voyage of the Skyliner he designed... and seemingly not noticing how Brains is feeling / acting. It doesn't help that basically EVERY craft created, including the Tiger Moth, is a pod vehicle, straight up. outside of that... I know some people list the Uninvited as Jeff being OOC, but to me he's always seemed perfectly IC (esp as we see him act the same in Terror in NYC with Virgil, and in Operation: Asteroid with... well, everyone). He deeply loves his sons and is very protective of them, and Scott suddenly goes radio silent after being in a dogfight, and they don't even have a precise location for him. He did feel a bit OOC in The Imposters to me, with his choice to keep the secret going over rescuing people as that contradicts other 'we might be found out' instances. Usually Jeff places peoples lives and rescues above secrets. Cry Wolf and Security Hazard also feel OOC for Jeff (although EVERYONE is at least a bit OOC in Security Hazard, so...) - I saw a fanfix for Cry Wolf where they were purposefully trying to throw people off and I liked that one, but it does require rewriting the episode to a greater or lesser degree. He feels OOC to me in Atlantic Inferno, saying he'd "never" have sent the boys on this rescue, which... well, no he has before. It feels like it happened so the PLOT could happen.

tagJeff I don't think we really have enough time with tagJeff for him TO have an OOC moment? Maaaaaaaaybe his confrontation with the Hood in the Zero X? But that could easily just be down to a high stress situation, and the running issue of 'making sure we don't scare the kids' so having the heroes quip and make jokes / make light of situations where they shouldn't (in example, in the uranium mine episode, Virgil hears Scott cry out in panic, then go silent and apparently get KOed, and upon hearing him wake up, makes fun of the sounds of Scott coming too. That feels VERY OOC, but likely was done to 'not scare the kids'. Which makes it hard to judge what is OOC in TaG for me, because is it just 'the character is OOC' or 'kid target audience'?

tosScott Atlantic Inferno, hands down, for me. Scott is shown to be certain in himself and his actions, and more than willing to make his own calls even if it goes against what Jeff says (City on Fire where Scott disregards Jeff's suggestion and goes for the dangerous cutting gas, actually quite a few instances in the comics and once or twice in the novels). Scott apparently not knowing how to make calls, second guessing himself, and basically just 'not knowing what to do' is OOC for him. Scott might not be as stubborn as Jeff (or Virgil), but he IS still a headstrong man in his 30s with a lot of life experience, almost all of it some form of leadership. As mentioned above, it also was VERY OOC of Jeff to decide that this rescue was NOT one that they normally would have done. They 100% have done similar rescues to it and Jeff was the one pushing for it. This element shows up in a later Fleetway original comic story, where Scott randomly can't make his own decisions and has an AI 'thought tree' of Brains and Jeff to tell him what to do (and is on TB5 for some reason... it's a weird one). He also feels a little OOC in Security Hazard... but basically everyone does in that ep to make the clip episode work so it's sorta a 'meh'. I can't really think of any 'ooc' moments that stand out to me in the comics or novels, at least not for TV21. Countdown made everyone act a bit younger and as a result everyone felt a bit OOC in it, but it's not severe. Scott felt MOSTLY ic in Fleetway's original stories, excluding the 'Scott can't make his own decisions' story (which I'm blanking on the name of, sorry)

tagScott Hrm... I think that Scott felt OOC in Recharge overall... not in the 'you've been pushing yourself too hard' part (well, kinda that, since we don't see Scott pushing himself or anyone else much in the show proper, or at least he's no more guilty of it than everyone else is) but specifically HOW HE TREATS MAX. In every other episode, before and after this, Scott treats Max like a fully fledged person / a sentient being... albeit one that is a 'child'. Then in this one episode, Max is a thing / not a real person. It's done because if he didn't, the writers couldn't have Virgil give the speech they wanted him to, but the sacrifice / cost is Scott being OOC. There's a few other incidents, but I mostly put those down to 'It's for kids"

What do you think is a secret they have that they never told anyone?

tosJeff Hrmmmmmmmmmmm... tough one. I can't really think of one in canon? Heck, I can't really think of an example in my fanworks. Jeff tends to be VERY open and seems to actively dislike keeping secrets unless he feels he has no choice. MAYBE the whole thing with Jeff being the one to capture Kranol? His sons don't seem to be aware of the fact that it was Jeff who captured the Jupiter Rebel Leader, but it comes off more as a 'Jeff didn't think it was important', not 'Jeff was keeping it secret'

tagJeff This one is easy. Sally is guilty of the same one. The Hood and that he'd worked with Jeff / was friends with him, and that Kayo was the Hood's niece.

tosScott He actually has quite a few in canon, and most of them are instances of him being ruthless. When he goes after the two racers who nearly killed Alan and Grandma Tracy (in what is honestly a legit form of torture) and basically scares them into driving off the road... it seems like Scott did NOT tell anyone what he was doing, and likely didn't say what he'd done after - mostly it's the way he goes "they've gone crazy, gonna crash!" like he hadn't just fired a gattling cannon and made multiple low passes at them. Scott similarly doesn't seem to report on him firing into the 'hanger' in the pyramid and thus causing the pyramid to explode in The Univited. He also canonically does NOT tell anyone that he A: realized what the scientist was planning to do and did nothing to stop him, and B: Scott lets the Hood think that SCOTT somehow made / brought in the bomb that blew up his Tibetan mountain base, rather than letting the Hood know the truth and go after the scientist's family. In my fanworks, he has never told his family what he got up to during the War that got him his medals of Valor and Honor... which might be canon as no canon source tell us what he did to earn those XD

tagScott I can't really think of a secret that Scott kept in canon? If anything he seems to HATE secrets from what I've seen. I also don't have any TaG fanworks, so I've nothing to add on that front either, sorry ^^;;

When do you think they were at their lowest?

tosJeff Absolutely when his wife died. He was hit HARD by her death and seems to have lost himself in his work and been a bit distant to the boys for at least a short while, even in canon.

tagJeff I'm honestly not sure? I'd say either when his wife died or during the 8 years in isolation in a low-G environment. We just really don't know much about him

tosScott In canon, Scott seems to have been solidly a KBO type, if he dipped low, it was only for a moment before he rallies and keeps going / pulls himself up and the like. It's oddly a difference between him and his dad. Jeff tends to push and march... but when he dips low, when he thinks he's failed, it generally takes someone getting him to keep trying / to give him hope or drive again. There's a few examples in the TV series where Scott starts to dip low, then basically just 'keeps going'. The way he dryly lists the issues with his situation in Uninvited, the moment of being low when he thinks they were too late to save the two tower workers, etc. He's got small moments like that in the comics and novels too, but they're all momentary. In my fanworks, Scott was at his lowest while a POW, but even then I kept to his 'just keep buggering on' mentality where once he was freed he just kept pushing on

tagScott Scott seems to have a simular 'if you're going through hell, keep going' / Keep Buggering On mentality that tosScott has. So even when low, he keeps on going until he's through or he's done. Sometimes the show treats it as a destructive behavior (Recharge) and sometimes it treats it as a positive (handful of moments in the show, usually when rescuing others). It's a trait that carries over between these two versions of Scott. I'd say that Scott seems to be at his lowest point in SOS, the finale episodes, and to a degree in REcharge. His absolute lowest was almost certainly after Jeff 'died'. There HAS to have been a span of at least a few years where iR wasn't running - or if it was it bascailly was Scott soloing it - and that likely was Scott's lowest point, esp if iR SHUT DOWN right after Jeff's death.

The most unnecessary thing they ever did?

tosJeff Insisting that they 'needed a thunderbird 6' I will accept no arguments on that, it was COMPLETELY unnecessary

tagJeff Not a ton of screen time with him for TaG so... hrm... not sure?

tosScott ....Probably the time he blew up an ENTIRE MOUNTAIN and all the bad guys and the Hood's riches / resources within (and very nearly killed the Hood alongside it to... seems to have near permanently crippled teh Hood to a degree as well). ...I mean technically it WAS necessary, there was no other way to destroy all these resources / blueprints /etc.... but it WAS ***EXTRA***. (Seriously, tosScott is RUTHLESS, the only thing keeping him from being a more terrifying villain than the Mysterons is that he is VERY driven to save, help, and protect people)

tagScott I'm not sure? ^^;; I'd probably have to rewatch to find an example (to me, a lot of choices made in the show seem unnecessary / there are times where I really wish they'd made a different choice writing wise)

i don't have a partner pokemon. all the other people my age have found theirs already, and i'm starting to feel like i'm running out of time. i've caught plenty of pokemon (released soon after, or given to people who connected with them), but i've never had that bond that makes a partner pokemon so special. how will i know when a pokemon is right for me? should i be out looking for specific pokemon or should i wait for the right one to come to me? please help! - Confused in Castelia City

buddy, let me tell you, theres no right age to find that one true partner. We often see the high energy youngsters finding their perfect pokemon, its a common thing, usually done at age 10 by SOME professors, not all mind you. We however overlook the huge demographic of trainers who bond to pokemon later in life, its an unspoken fact, that some people just take a bit more time to find the right fit, and thats not a bad thing at all. statistically kids at that 10 year age mark who get pokemon often have to rehome or give away pokemon they receive due to their lack of experience, money, time or a collection of other reasons such as health issues, housing arrangement changes, schooling changes, evolution issues. Theres a whole host of reasons, and its WAY more common for this to hit the younger generation than the slightly older.

I personally don’t know why 10 was the chosen age, a lot of kids aren't quite ready for the huge responsibility that comes with keeping a pokemon healthy and happy, and caring for something with huge power and dangerous move sets. I don’t usually allow young kids of that age to even adopt without a VERY strong bond being shown, and proof of their knowledge and skill to care for the pokemon thats chosen them, OR a responsible family member who is able and willing to help them learn and care for the pokemon should they be an easier species to handle.

You know who takes a lot of our pokemon? Old folks, middle ages people, those who have suffered great loss, or are feeling like then need company in what i’d deem a quite hostile and often lonely world that we exist in. Literally just this week we’ve seen a Linoon with a missing leg go to a lovely home with a young couple, neither of which had pokemon of their own, they must have been 30-ish years old. There was a Jumpluff who took a liking to an elderly lady who stopped by for her usual visit, and bonded to her eventually over the course of several interactions and a discovery of their shared interests, now they live together and keep each other company.

I can promise you theres no such thing as “too late” to make a good friend.

I advise you do things you truly love to do, go places you enjoy being, and see what comes up to you during this time. A pokemon is often drawn to energy that matches their own, and if you're doing things you like a lot, and they also enjoy those things, then you can start a relationship on even ground with shared interests. Catching pokemon from the wild, especially when your wandering and hunting for them means you've usually approached them, or at least intervened in their normal life, as opposed to you hanging out and waiting for them to come to you. Its starting a relationship on different premises than what you've been doing so far from the sounds of it, and I suggest giving it a good try.

Patience is very important, rushing a friendship, or pushing a perfect match just doesn't yield effective results, but sharing food, laughing together, finding shared interests, enjoying the same songs, or that park or mall you enjoy the most, maybe swimming? a good walk or a nap in the sun? whatever it is that makes you happy, just do that stuff. Leave pokeballs at home. This process isn't about catching a pokemon, its about making a friend, and if they like you, come back, try to find them again, bring a treat, talk with them, just be an actual friend. Only when they're open to the idea should you bring up a ball and catching, its quite limiting, and not all pokemon want that kind of lifestyle, that doesn't mean they don’t like you, it just isn't a choice they may be interested in at that point in time. A good friend respects their buddies wishes, so listen to them and who knows, they may come round to it in time, or be totally open to it if they like you, and you two find common ground!

whats for you wont miss you, the right fit is out there, and i promise you, wether you find a perfect buddy at 10 or 100, they'll love you, you'll love them, thats all that matters at the end of the day. Good luck, do what you love, something will find that interesting for sure!

If so, I'd like to request some sfw and nsfw headcanons for them dating a female herbivore and it's totally up to you which members you would like to write for (although Free and Agata are my favourites!)

You know I love the Shishigumi, a lot. So I went overboard. I offer my apologies.

I will say, since I usually put NSFW under cut, but due to length I put it all under cut, I do have a big warning for it as to not surprise y’all

Ibuki (I love him and will never NOT include him in an ask about the Shishigumi)

Ibuki is probably the best one at dating an herbivore. He’s very gentle and conscientious of you as an animal and your limitations

That being said, he’s top tier respectful. He knows you may not be as physically strong as her is, but that doesn’t mean you’re not strong in your own way. He also likes the idea of protecting you.

Always walks side by side with you. He’s nervous about holding your hand, but he’d never say it. Do it for him.

Has eaten meat for YEARS and really struggles with that part of himself.

Doesn’t kiss you for a really long time, he’s inwardly terrified that he’s going to hurt you. You’d have to make the first move.

Keeps you away from his work. He doesn’t want you to get hurt.

He knows his world is dark, gritty, and that you shouldn’t be a part of it. He wants to send you away, but can’t. He thinks he’s selfish. You’ll need to reassure him this is what you want.

Herbivores can’t see in the dark, so he keeps lights on in key areas so you can see better.

Protective. If anyone gives you any trouble he’s quick to correct their behavior, he can be incredibly intimidating when he wants to be

Slouches so you’re around the same height. Give him a back/neck rub at the end of the day. It will make him feel better, and he liked being close to you

The kind of boyfriend that remembers all the major events in your relationships, including small ones.

Once he gets comfortable, he’s a snuggle bug in private. Cheek kisses, arm around your shoulders when you’re sitting, wrapping his arms around your waist when you’re standing.

Lions can’t purr, but if they COULD oh man, he’d never stop

Free

He’s famous for enjoying females, so the fact that he’s dating someone seriously that’s not a feline is really strange

You should have seen the expression on one of the more flirty female lions when he turned them down.

Everyone thinks he’s joking about dating you at first, when they see he’s actually serious the teasing dies down, but doesn’t stop (it’s at his expense don’t worry).

“Has hell frozen over? What’s someone like you doing with a guy like Free?”

He honestly doesn’t expect you guys to stay together for very long. He expects it to be a fling. Only it doesn’t stop. He doesn’t get tired of you or eat you....It’s weird but wonderful.

Has eaten meat for years, and has a hard time letting himself kiss on anywhere but on the cheek. Likes to throw his arm around you and hug you. So he does show affection, but keeps his mouth FAR AWAY from your throat.

Rests his head on top of yours

Calls you “Babe” a lot. He has a lot of other nicknames for you to. Some of the lions don’t even know your name, just that you’re dating Free.

Over. Protective. He knows the market, the animals in it and the animals who come to it. He is very prepared to shoot or maim anyone who tries anything. The fact he’s such a loose canon does help scare people off. Everyone knows who you’re dating and they make sure not to push it.

He likes to show you off. He’s that guy that carries a picture of you in his wallet. Anyone who asks about him dating someone and he’ll show you off.

“Sure she’s hot, but have you see the ass on my girlfriend?”

Likes to show off in front of you. Fights? Yes. Please watch him and root for him.

Tries to get you to get a tattoo, but will NOT get identical ones. He doesn’t want to jinx it. If you wanna have similar tattoos though, that’d be okay.

Dolph

A relationship with Dolph when you’re an herbivore is really low key. A lot of people don’t know you’re dating. He doesn’t want to put you in jeopardy

He’s pretty serious and it’s hard for him just to relax. He does relax when you’re alone and he knows you’re safe.

Likes to lay his head on your chest and listen to your heart beat

When you do go out together, you may have to initiate any hand holding. He plays it off, but he’s secretly happy

He smokes, and you may have to get on him for that if you don’t like it. It’d be very hard for him to quit

Will let you braid his mane, but wont keep it in if you go out

Supports your endeavors and does whatever he can to help. He may get a little to into it. You’ll say you wanna take a trip and he has everything planned out. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Likes how small your hands are in his

When he has a hard day, just hold him. He’s heavy and will lean into you, but he just needs the support

Has to relearn how to be himself, and you really help with that. He smiles more when he’s alone with you.

Has a really deep, gruff, morning voice

Agata

If lions could blush you bet he’d be constantly red. If you actually look close, the insides of his ears usually are

Loves holding your hand and hugs

Respects your boundaries. If Ibuki is the king of respect, Agata is the prince.

He’s still part of a dangerous organization in the black market, so when he’s working he’s all business. Only a few of the members know about you (just the inner circle).

Agata, like most of the others, is petrified to kiss you. He probably has the worst anxiety out of anyone else. He’s a meat eater, he’s eaten your kind of meat before. What if He accidently hurts you?

Texts you all the time.

The one you can be on the phone with for hours and not know it

Likes it when you run your fingers through his mane

He’s stronger than he looks, so he may just pick you up and carry you every now and again. He just likes to hold you, let him have this

Brings you flowers and your favorite snacks whenever you have a bad day

Likes to bury his face in your neck

He has a hard time being who he is versus how he thinks he should be. The fact he can goof off and just enjoy life without the strain of being a lion is a blessing.

Probably says he loves you before you do. He does it when he’s half asleep on your lap. He falls asleep before he realized he said it, whoops.

You’d have to be the one to be aggressive in public. “Excuse me, he asked for no pickles” meme

Miguel

He’s pretty quiet in his group, so no one knows you’re dating

Miguel is really good at thinking his feelings and thoughts, but isn’t great at voicing them. He does a lot of little things to show affection. He brings you a warm drink on a cold day, has food for you when you wake up, holds you hand

He likes to try and see the best in everything, even if he knows how ugly the world is

His mane is maintained carefully. Once you get really serious, he may ask you to help him with it. It’s pretty intimate, and when you’re done he looks at you like you have stars in your eyes

He’s the force of protection you don’t even know is there. He’s probably saved your life like, eight times, and never let you know that he did

Sabu

If Miguel is quiet, Sabu is dead silent

No one knows anything about his personal life, let alone his dating life

They find out one day when the group is trying to make plans for a fun sort of day, and he turns them down because you two have a date. It becomes a secret mission for the group to find out who you are.

They don’t, Sabu is the oldest member and one of the most clever

A popular headcanon is that his face is really, REALLY messed up. I share that headcanon. The first time you kiss the scars on his face he chokes up

He goes all in. he’s yours as long as you’ll have him. He expects the same respect from you.

He’s eaten meat for a really long time, but he has more semblance of control being a smidge older than most of the other lions.

A bit pessimistic

Kisses you good morning and goodnight.

Cuddles on the couch. He’ll watch whatever you want to, but he has his preferences

Wears his face covering everywhere, you’ll need to remind him he can relax when you’re alone

. If you get out of somewhere like work or school late at night, he’s waiting for you to take you home.

So used to wearing a suit and tie, he doesn’t know how to do casual wear very well. He lets you pick most of his stuff out.

Jinma

He knows a lot about the black market, so he’s over protective from the get go. However, since he does know so much, he knows what connections to make to keep you safe.

Eats meat, and is self conscious that you’ll judge him for it. Please be nice to him

Kiss his eye with the spot, it makes him feel special

(Personal headcanon) His mane has never grown right, so he keeps it short. He’s kind of self conscious about it. A lions mane means a lot to male lions, he tries to keep it nice but...it’s nothing like some of the other Shishigumi’s manes. Pet it, run your fingers through it. Males don’t complimented enough. It’ll make him feel loved.

If you ever wanna go anywhere fancy, because of his connections and knowledge, you can basically go anywhere at any time...as long as it’s in the black market, but he may know a guy that knows a guy. If there’s something more legal you need, he checks in with his other gang members to see who knows who

Has a wicked good memory, remembers pretty much everything you’ve said

Dope

A gentleman. He will hold doors open for you, offer his arm and hand when you walk together, brings you flowers.

He, like all the Shishigumi, eats meat. He is self conscious about it an doesn’t want to scare you away. He will be upfront about it though. He wants honesty. he talks it out with you, and he will try and cut back but being part of the Shishigumi, and a meat addict, means it’s very hard for him to stop. He probably wont, not completely, but he tries not to do it around you.

He doesn’t brag he’s dating you, but if he’s asked he gets this really peaceful look on his face

If you ever take him shopping at any flea market or outdoor stalls, he will get you the best bargain. He’s also amazing at helping you with any work contracts, apartment contracts and anything else.

Likes it when you brush his mane, and lets you put it up for him before he goes out. He doesn’t let you do anything fancy, but says when you do it it somehow turns out better

Hino

Hino is very attractive. His looks are what brings jobs in, so he keeps the fact that you’re dating a secret for business.

Gives you extra affection in private because of it. Kisses, hugs, all that. His favorite is to kiss the back of your hand, he is kind of a romantic.

Don’t get him wrong, he’s still a lion. If he hears that an animal is giving you a hard time, he will take them down and look handsome AF doing it

Eats meat, and like all the other lions worries for your safety. He tends to eat before he sees you, but after a while of you dating he becomes more relaxed. He doesn’t eat in front of you though.

Spends a ton of time getting ready for the day, you may have to fight him for the bathroom

Compliments you a lot. He uses the basic one liners at his job with older, lonely, animals. So, he uses unique ones for you.

Honestly? He does try and eat you the first time. Not intentionally and he stops himself, but to be fair to HIM as an herbivore...you almost let him

It kind of ruins the mood and you end up talking it out with him. He’s so ashamed he can’t look at you for a while.

Once time goes by, and you move pretty slow, but it’s worth it. Sex with Ibuki is amazing

Remember how Ibuki is really diligent about your limitations and you as an herbivore? Pays OFF when he’s with you

He’s all about foreplay and making sure you are ready and prepared before he does anything. Ibuki has big dick energy. He doesn’t brag but is blessed. But he knows that with you being smaller than him, he’s not down to hurt you with it

He starts keeping his nails short for you. The other guys may try and tease him for it, but Ibuki gets defensive over you and so it’s short lived.

His voice drops when he’s in the mood, and he borderline growls. You’ve been teasing him all day, you really should make it up to him

Surprisingly good at dirty talk, it kind of comes naturally to him and neither of you know why

Is more concerned than he lets on. He tries to pretend he’s all confidence, but he has a pretty hard time getting to the point of actually having sex with you. He actually start actively avoiding it. He blue balls himself. Someone help him.

He’s used to doing what comes natural, and what if what comes natural means hurting you? He’d rather not.

When you do finally try and have sex, he doesn’t kill you...but he does bite you. You need stitches, and he has even more of a complex (tell him he just gave you a cool tattoo or something)

He may actively avoid you or being near you. It’s a set back. He’s not like Ibuki who can talk it out, he’s supposed to be a lion, not a scaredy cat.

You have to put your foot down. You’re dating a bad ass mafia lion, not some nervous school boy. Remind him about how much you care about him and how much you want him.

The second time goes better, but he’s a LOT more careful. he does maim a few pillows, claws the mattress. Their sacrifice is appreciated. (you two become famous for ruining and destroying beds. The other guys are both impressed and disgusted. Free has no shame)

Trims his claws so he can use them the next time. He’s learning.

This male is a womanizer, but he’s not great at doing things that females would stay for? It’s more of a hit-it-and go. He knows some tricks but...not a lot.

Tries his best though. Loves to dig his hands in your hips. Leaves bruises. One time he got hammered and asked Ibuki for advice. Ibuki was helpful, but needed therapy afterwards.

Rough sex 90% of the time (that other 10 is passionate sex that lasts hours, it’s pretty impressive)

Once you guys get comfortable, hope you’re okay with bite marks and kiss marks. You’d have to wear winter clothing 24/7 to hide them all. He’s VERY proud of you being his female, he doesn’t want any other male getting ideas

Dolph is careful with you the first time, and while he doesn’t bite you, he does dig his claws in a little to much. They may or may not scar. He feels bad, but he’s so in the moment he can’t help it

May drool a little. Don’t tease him until later.

He doesn’t stop until you’re satisfied. It’s a promise. You will NOT be able to walk the next day. He’s going to make the claw marks up to you if it kills you and wakes everyone in ear shot.

Out of all of the lions, you’re safest with Dolph. He’s ”the serious one”, which makes him practical and knowing. He actually does research and goes online to inform himself.

Love bites. He doesn’t break skin, so you’re safe there.

Loves it when you try and claw him. You can’t do a lot, as an herbivore, but the fact your instincts try and make you...really gets him going.

Casual at aftercare. Better than average but nothing near Ibuki or Agata.

Not a sex maniac, and with work, it’s not high on his priority list. He’ll make up for it though ;)

Agata

Likes to pretend it’s not something he’s interested in, but he is. He just doesn’t want to pressure you, or scare you. Dating a lion is one thing, being fully exposed is another and he knows it.

He thinks about it a lot, but doesn’t act on it. You probably will have to take the lead. Agata gets way to in his head.

The sweetest kisser ever, but when he’s heated they’re like fire. Biting your lip, you face carefully with his claws just teetering on the edge of digging in. He loves kissing you, doesn’t matter where.

Kissing will lead to other things if you don’t stop him, but do you really want to?

Likes to pull you close, and the more heated he gets the more likely he’s going to grind on you without realizing he’s doing it

Totally whines if you stop kissing him.

Younger than the rest of the Shishigumi, and is more prone to using his instincts. He eats meat and is afraid of hurting you, but his desire to fuck your brains out is far greater than the instinct to eat you

He does end up biting you, and uses his claws. The damage he does isn’t serious, but he still fuses over you when its over.

Takes a while to let himself near you like that again. He beats himself up. You may have to prove to him you’re tougher than you look.

When you try again, he makes up for his shortcomings. You’re not sleeping tonight, call in sick to work tomorrow.

You may have to ask him to slow down. He intends to go all night, you may have to curb his enthusiasm. Don’t forget to take breaks for water so you don’t pass out.

Wont stop until you’re satisfied. Doesn’t matter how tired he is.

Sweet nothings in your ear non stop...between the moaning. He’s surprisingly vocal

Talk to him too. Part of the reason he cares so much about you is because you see him for who he is, not his status as a lion.

Since he doesn’t plan having sex with you, and just lets it happen naturally, he always has things in his room for you. Just in case. Please don’t tease him about it, the other lions do that enough.

Is totally the kind of guy to help you bathe afterwards if you want.

Miguel

Miguel is worried about having sex with you, but no one knows it but him.

He’s the brawn of the group, and is strong as hell. He may end up trying to show off and you may end up in positions when you have to totally vulnerable (if it makes you uncomfortable, he’ll adjust. Just talk to him)

Muscles for days. The lion is made of stone, but has surprisingly soft touches. He knows his body and knows how to use it

He’s never had sex with an herbivore, he’s thought about it, but having sex with something he may eat later didn’t sit well with him. You are a different story. He’s thought about it a little to much

First time he has sex with you he claws you, and they’re pretty deep. You end up getting stitches. Unlike a lot of the other lions though, he doesn’t avoid you afterwards. He’s there when you get stitches, intimidating the doctor (who has a small heart attack every time Miguel moves)

Apologizes but isn’t afraid to try again. He trims his claws this time, you should really tell him the other things his fingers could be used for outside clawing your back.

Do not mess with his mane or pull it, he’ll get grumpy.

Loves your chest and carefully uses his tongue. Doesn’t matter what size they are, he’s a fan.

Not very vocal, but likes it when you are.

Sabu

Sabu is older and more controlled, so you’re pretty safe with him.

He doesn’t seem like he’s interested in it, and since he doesn’t talk much, him bringing it up comes out of no where.

“Wanna have sex?”

Just out of no where. He doesn’t talk much so he doesn’t beat around the bush. You were just scrolling on your phone, and you nearly drop it.

He doesn’t hurt you when you have sex, not even by accident, but the couch you were on gets shredded. It looks like an animal twice his size attacked it.

Runs his hands over your body, he can’t stop touching you.

Kiss his scars, it sooths him, and he’ll pay you back

Loves your neck, but is careful not to leave any marks (you have no idea how he doesn’t, it’s like magic)

He doesn’t care if you leave kiss marks on him

No great with aftercare, but will make sure you’re okay and kisses your cheeks and on top of your head

Jinma

Disaster. He doesn’t mean to be, he just is

He wants it to be perfect, but while he knows everything about the black market, he doesn’t know much about having sex with an herbivore. He never really though of it, and now that he is...help him. He knows rumors of herbivore and carnivore relationships that have gone wrong so...he kind of freezes up. That, and he hasn’t been in a lot of long term relationships.

While the others do their research, Jinma goes way to into it and becomes a bit overwhelmed, but hides it.

You end up having to take control. For someone who knows the black market like the back of his hand, Jinma is the student and you are the teacher. You’re an herbivore, and you’re going to show him just how much you know (you are the captain now)

He bites you, and he does break the skin, but he just closes his mouth and allows you to decide if you wanna continue or stop

He starts keeping a med kit in his room just in case.

He gets better, the more he learn and the more serious he is with you. Soon he’s compiling a book of knowledge on you.. He knows where to touch to make your toes curl, what to say, and your weak spots

He takes everything he learns and uses it against you one night. He’s a fast learner.

Dope

Part of negotiations is to know what a person wants and what they will go through to get it. So, when you bring it up, the look in your eyes is all it takes for him to know he needs to take you serious.

Usually his kisses are quick and satisfying, but once he actually starts to seriously kiss you its like it’s the last time he’s going to do it.

Likes to have you in his lap. Seeing your face is important to him. Every movement and actions of your body paints a picture of what you want.

Third best at foreplay, what drags him down is he watches you to the point that he forgets what he’s doing

When you first have sex, he ends up clawing your hips and biting your lip to hard. You lip bleeds a little and his nails break the skin. He’s a little worried, but if you don’t tell him to stop he’ll get permission to keep going.

Ends up also biting you, but nothing to terrible or life altering.

He loves watching you, body language tells a person a lot about someone, so no matter where or how, he likes seeing your face.

Afterwards, he makes sure you’re okay, and comfortable, He does the basics, but doesn’t go overboard

May leave a kiss mark or two, but it’s accidental. He doesn’t want to embarrass you (even if seeing you with kiss marks makes the animal in him deeply satisfied)

Hino

Hino knows a females body like no other. He’s not exactly promiscuous, but he likes being satisfied

Since dating you, he hasn’t been with any other females, he’s very needy. He’s not as bad as Free, but he’s getting there.

You have no idea how he seduces you every time, one moment you’re making tea, the next, you’re on the kitchen counter

The first time you try and have sex with him, he claws you way to hard and you end up having to get stitches and fixed up. He feels awful and can’t look you in the eye. He swears he will NEVER do it again

He never does, he keeps to his word

Unlike some of the other lions, the fact he hurt you doesn’t keep him away. He feels bad, but now he’s going to try twice as hard to make sure every time he has sex with you is amazing.

Wont stop until you’re satisfied, and just seems to naturally know your body and what you like.

While he’s composed in public, you get to see a little wild in his eyes when he fucks you. He has this low growl that rumbles through his chest that you feel deep in your body the tighter he holds you

Probably has had sex with you on most surfaces in your home.

Above average at aftercare. He tries, but having more one night stands than not hasn’t equipped him for great aftercare. He learns though.

Hi! I realize that this probably isn't the sort of thing you usually get asked, but I am a beginner game master planning my first tabletop rpg campaign. And depending on how things play out, it may be that at some point or another, the players might want to try to get information from a character unwilling to give that information to them. Now, as I'm sure you're well aware, it's not exactly a rare thing for heroes in action movies and stuff to beat people up (or threaten to do so) to get them to reveal what information without the story framing it as torture or a bad thing at all, and since this is such a widespread trope in mainstream fiction, I'm worried my players might think to do the same in our game.

So, do you have any suggestions on how to steer them away from resorting to torture and direct them towards proper interrogation in the game, without having to make it an explicit house rule that torture won't get you anything useful? I could technically make that a house rule, but I'd really rather not since we're all pretty inexperienced and it's gonna be confusing enough navigating the official system written down in the rulebook, without keeping track of additional made-up rules that exist because I say so.

Session Zero. You need a session zero.

This is basically a pre-game session where everyone gets together and discusses what they want from the game, players and GM. You talk about expectations, the kind of game you want to play and the comfort levels of everyone around the (virtual) table. Players usually talk about the characters they want to play and it’s a good chance to decide if any of the player characters knew each other before the adventure. It can also be used to get a little bit of roleplay in to help the players get a feel for their characters and the GM to get a feel for the setting.

And these are generally useful things to have sorted before the first game. But you can also use the time to figure out if there were subjects or themes players wanted to avoid completely and if there were any subjects or themes they want warnings about.

Make notes about what your players say and do. I made the rooky error of not doing that my first time (you can always ask again and correct these mistakes.)

If you don’t want to make a hard rule about torture my advice is to bring it up during session zero and discuss it with the players up front.

You can say outright ‘I know torture doesn’t work in reality and I’m uncomfortable with tropes showing it positively in the game. I want to have fun in the game too.’

To be honest I think that kind of direct approach is better for everyone because speaking in euphemisms or trying to hint at something can be genuinely misunderstood. And then people get frustrated with each other.

In game it’s important to reward the behaviour you want to see. Give players XP for good roleplay and for interviewing and investigating things. Give them items.

I know it probably sounds obvious but rewarding players for roleplay instead of just combat encourages them to roleplay. Rewarding them for creative non-violent solutions encourages them to think outside the box. If they use their skills to avoid a fight give them the XP as if they won it. Apply the same process to investigations.

It’s also really important to give players multiple options and have a back up plan for if rolls go badly.

The first area my players got to was a spooky abandoned town and they were looking for the people. They rolled high and found a trail going into the forest. But if they’d rolled low the NPCs they arrived with would have directed them to the next town over and they’d have been told to investigate the forest, some rumours about something coming out of the forest and the general direction the missing people probably went.

Making sure you’ve got multiple ways players can get information should help. Because unless you’ve got a table of people who just want to kill stuff (no judgement on that but it doesn’t sound like the kind of game you want) players are looking at all the options.

Having NPCs around to point out options players didn’t consider can help too.

My players just completed a murder-mystery style investigation and they did an incredible job. They interviewed loads of NPCs, collated notes on who had seen what and went through the luggage of a suspect confiscating spell components before the show down.

Because the party didn’t have anyone with a high degree of magical knowledge (or knowledge of the culture they were in) I gave them a helpful NPC with that knowledge. And I used him to prompt them occasionally. For instance at one point they were interviewing a suspicious ‘wizard’ and the conversation was going in circles. They were rolling high so they knew the ‘wizard’ wasn’t lying but they also didn’t trust his answers.

I had the NPC ask if they could see the ‘wizard’s’ spell book. The players passed it around until it got to a player who could read the language it was written in. The player found it was full of poetry, no spells at all. Between that and casting spells to detect magic and the like they figured the ‘wizard’ wasn’t lying, he was just… deluded.

Remember that a maximum roll doesn’t mean success; it means the best possible outcome. That does not always have to be what the player wants. Rolling a 20 to persuade a guard the character just attacked to let them go and give them back their weapons probably shouldn’t work. Unless there’s something else going on. If the prison is being attacked by zombies may be things should go differently.

Don’t be afraid to say ‘no’ sometimes. Not everything players want is a good idea for the game. As GM you’re responsible for creating a good time for everyone. Which includes you. Refusing things that would cause you distress, or just more stress to figure out in-game, is perfectly valid.

Really talk to your players about the kind of game they’d enjoy and the kind of game you’d enjoy. Work out if those things are compatible.

Sometimes they won’t be. I have plenty of friends who I wouldn’t want GMing for me, because what they like in a game and what I do are very different. And that is OK.

Don’t feel pressured into including elements you’re uncomfortable with. The game is for everyone at the table. You can always say ‘I’m uncomfortable with where this is going, can we tone it down?’

Good friends, good players, will listen.

Edit: I would strongly recommend not limiting player alignment or race choices as a GM. Instead talk to your players about the kind of characters they want to make and how those characters would act. Decide amongst yourselves what fits the game you all want to play instead of assuming you know what a player’s character is like better then they do.

Zaid had a pensive, laidback expression on his face as the conversation volleyed back and forth. When Zaid mentioned that they were "cut from the same cloth," Lokni felt a warmth bloom within his chest. "I agree with you, work is something to be proud of, in its own way," he beamed in response. And it was true, Lokni couldn't imagine himself in any other profession. He wondered if Zaid felt the same in that regard. Upon Zaid inquiring about if he had a girl back home, Lokni felt his face grow hot, the heat reaching to the tips of his ears. "Me? Nah, I was never-" he trailed off a moment, searching for the right words before sighing in defeat, "I was working a lot- and- I don't know- wasn't ever popular. So, you hit the nail on the head, but the only woman in my life isn't Chenoa... there's over a hundred heifers too," a sly wink in return so that Zaid knew he was returning his jest in kind. "But from the way you talk, you've got someone back at home, right?" The concept of owning two restaurants, and in different countries, flew over Lokni's head. One thing was quite clear to Lokni, Mister Zaid here had some deep pockets. "Don't sell yourself short now, it sounds to me like you worked very hard, maybe your employees will just think you're taking a little impromptu vacation," Lokni reasoned, continuing to cut and gather the fennel, only taking what he needed for the time being. The idea of being in charge of other people and their salaries was something that Lokni found daunting to even just think about.

"First time that I've ever heard of Cheeky Nandos, but it sounds good, maybe if we forage enough ingredients we can try to recreate it. On the other hand, Popeye's is my go-to anytime we're in town, if I'm not careful I can finish a pizza and a half on my own." He chuckled, wishing that he wasn't being serious. The lengths that Lokni would go to for food were at times extreme. "Sounds like your Ammi also knows a thing or two about cooking," Lokni heartily chuckled at Zaid's impression. Now he knew where Zaid got his sass and attitude from. "I wouldn't have pegged you for a day over thirty, you being a look'er n' all," Lokni pondered as he took in Zaid's stature and well-groomed appearance, quite the feat considering the situation that they were in. Zaid's features were charming and refined, like an aged wine, no wonder he was "good at fucking," Lokni's thoughts traced back to their conversation while prepping the crab to be cooked, now over a month ago. "I've just left my twenties behind, I'm officially thirty, though it still don't feel like it. Hasn't quite sunk into my bones yet, but I'm sure I'll feel it eventually." Especially at this rate, Lokni was running himself ragged trying to make a sustainable survival system for himself back at camp. Once he got some stuff figured out, he wanted to see if he could help the others as well. Wasn't right- leaving all these people out here without the knowledge or tools to fend for themselves. Intrigued, Lokni listened to Zaid talk about his relationship with meat, pork in particular, as well as the availability of certain things. Sounded to Lokni like the city was a little limiting in the regard of fresh game. However, Zaid's excitement about the fennel was suddenly cut short as a loud crash echoed throughout the forest. Slipping from the trees, there was a young stranger, their clothes a bit charred and hair singed. With the chaos Lokni's mind was goin' into overdrive, his instincts to do something kicking in- but who was this man and why were they here? A new islander? One of their secret captors? Lokni wanted to ask questions, to make accusations, but the fire was spreading and Zaid sent the newcomer off with a quick, and commanding tone. Running to keep up with Zaid, Lokni skidded to a halt to see the wall of flame encircling a deer? It was much smaller than any deer Lokni had ever seen, more like a dainty lap dog than a deer, but one thing was clear, it was trapped. From somewhere in the distance, Lokni could hear the low hum of something mechanical, with high notes of ear-piercing trill that was approaching. Just what in God's green earth-? The tightening of Zaid's grasp on Lokni's forearm brought him from his thoughts, the pleading look in his dark eyes matching his voice which was taking on a desperate note. Make it rain-?! Wracking his brains, Lokni tried to think of how to make it happen. He could make it rain lightly with enough thought, but it took time- a resource that they currently did not have. Putting a hand on Zaid's shoulder, Lokni locked eyes with him, "you gotta' be mean to me- say something mean and honest!"

Zaid listened to Lokni's chatter, and thought to himself: bruv likely doesn't know he's a natural conversationalist. Sharing and curious, it was a winning combination, and likely Lokni would get along with pretty much anyone here, even if they were mostly all strangers. And honestly, if someone did try to start something with Lokni, Zaid decided he'd be pretty fucking pissed off about it. There was no reason the big man should have altercations, unless the other person was a wanker.

Zaid decided he'd keep a lookout for that, just in case. For now, he peacefully smiled, easy as a lazy cat. "We're cut from a similar cloth in that respect, mate. Work is life. Not much room for much else. You...did you have anyone back home, then? A girl? And I'm not talking about the horse," Zaid was deadpan, but gave Lokni a wink so he knew it was a tease.

He held up two fingers. "Two restaurants - my first in London, my newest in New York. Owner and executive chef, yeah. And if I don't get back home, they'll both fold. People will lose their jobs...bloody hell, it pains me, you know. It honestly fucking pains me. They might think I've abandoned them..." He shook his head, allowing himself ten seconds of palpable distress, before he forced himself to swallow it back down.

Lokni, bless him, tactfully moved on about their own eating habits, and Zaid dragged his smile back, wistful and wry. "You're a proper worker; I'm just vain, mate. Public eye and that, I suppose." But that wasn't it; Zaid just always had his own regimen. More things to control, was how Tej used to put it. "I'm always good for a cheeky Nandos, erm. It's a chicken franchise, grilled chicken, like. Not sure if it's Stateside, if I'm honest. What's your takeaway of choice then?"

This started to feel like a first date, Zaid thought in amusement, with Lokni's curiousity. "I'm forty-one. I'd guess you was about...twenty-five?" Whenever guessing someone age, '25' was the safest bet.

Zaid was curious about what 'brought out the white sage' meant, but he was distracted by Lokni's mashua find. He took the bunch, breaking off a piece of a thinner tuber to taste. Obviously cooked was the way to go but Zaid knew what to look for in raw sampling. "Hm. Good for pickling, maybe. Or fermenting. Or as my ammi says - 'acha, just put it in a curry beta, it'll taste good.'" He did a little impression of his mum, just to give Lokni a giggle.

"Mate, I'm from the city, I grew up in towns. No place for hunting unless it was small game. And that was never my thing, yeah. Lamb, beef, goat, fish, chicken - I'll eat most meats. Not pork, that's a religious thing." The map was a great idea, and Zaid felt a warm wriggle of pleasure that Lindi had also mentioned a garden to Lokni. Zaid just hummed and grunted along in agreement, looking around whilst Lokni made his notations. Their next find was even better. "Fennel! Fennel!" Zaid exclaimed in surprise, reaching for the one Lokni had. "Oh mate, this is brilliant. You need to add this to your gard-"

There was a loud crash behind them, which genuinely made Zaid flinch in fright, sudden as it was. A young man, wide-eyed and panting, appeared before them, looking slightly...singed?

"Fire - fire in the forest - help - fire -" the young man blithered, pointing behind him. Had Zaid seen him around, was he from the cruise ship? Of course he was, but Zaid couldn't place his name. The young man pointed, down a forested path and that was when Zaid smelled it: smoke. Not a lot, very wet and woodsy.

"Go get help," Zaid told the younger man, pointing in the direction he and Lokni had just come from. "Go now!" At the order, the young man just looked from one to the other with a strange, weirdly apologetic look on his face, before he bolted away.

Zaid, unthinking, followed the path. It was dangerous, it was likely very dangerous and charging ahead was a bloody stupid thing to do, but Zaid just had to see for himself how bad it was. If the young man was just exaggerating, or if it was serious.

When he got to the clearing (and he just assumed Lokni wouldn't leave his side), the fire revealed itself to be serious, but for a different reason. It was a circle of fire in a clearing, and right in the middle was a very terrified-looking small deer...thing. It kept bolting, trying to escape the circle of fire, but was clearly too intimidated and small to make the leap over the flame.

Zaid stared in confusion, but only for a brief second. He twisted to stare up at Lokni, grasp Lokni's forearm. "Oi - Lokni. Listen, you said you could make clouds and - and your storms. That means rain, yeah? What do we need to do? What do we need to do to make it happen, love?"
