Wedding Plans

Thanks to YouTube, I was reminded of a show where the premise is the groom has to prepare a wedding without the bride knowing what the heck he's got in store for them. Chaos naturally ensues, but then it got me thinking about Dragons. I sorta would love to see this happen in their world. It would be amazing.

Astrid wouldn't even know how to respond. Half of the wedding would be really sweet like when Hiccup tried so hard to get her that betrothal gift. The other half is just dragon themed and completely lacking those little details she thought he'd include (cue how he missed that she was wearing the aforementioned betrothal necklace). They'll have her favorite foods, but there are a dozen Terrible Terrors who carry flower bouquets all over the place. At the end of the day, she knew what she was getting into with him. It's not the wedding she expected, but it's one very fitting for the dragon trainer.

I'm not even entertaining the idea of Ruffnut getting married. Sorry (not really). Love her, but I cannot see her in a serious relationship. She's a love 'em and leave 'em type. So, she doesn't have to worry about not getting the kind of wedding she'd like. It's not even happening.

Stoick would have done a nice job. I feel like he'd have found a really pretty outfit for Valka and got some musicians to play their song for them when they dance. (Too bad she's probably about to leave as soon as the reception is over)

Even though I don't see Tuffnut getting married, him planning a marriage for his imaginary S.O. would be hilarious. This is the most bonkers wedding ever with plenty of disgusting-sounding desserts, explosions, and boar wrestling. Everyone's tired and most likely horrified by the time they go home. His gift request list is also extremely unrealistic. No, Tuff, we cannot get you the sun no matter how shiny it is.

Fishlegs would plan a sweet wedding. Nothing too wild happens, but it's nice. There's a large banquet too. Really large. It's probably the most ridiculous part of the whole experience.

Snotlout would try to act like he's hating it, but he'd have an amazing time and plan out everything really well. He's turning into one of those TV wedding planners with a book to help him keep track of everything. Do NOT mess up anything. He's not even playing around with the twins until this is over. Someone better keep them far from him so that he doesn't have an emotional breakdown when they inevitably ruin something. He is absolutely stressing out about every detail and won't be satisfied until the actual wedding day. Bridezillas have nothing on Snotty.

Dagur fully embraces the role and loves it. He's planning a load of activities so that no one's bored, is bringing in all the best cooks, and has so many decorations that it takes about an hour to just find everything there is to look at. It's beautiful and Mala realizes she made the right call by giving him the reins with this. If he has too much fun, he might just start planning weddings for the other Berserkers and Defenders too. No point in letting that creative mind of his go to waste. (I do not forgive RTTE for only showing us the official ceremony. I wanted to see the wedding! I bet it was a really fun time, so boo to them for not showing us. We didn't even get to see the cute couple's dance)

If Gustav ever found someone willing to marry him, he would be a great example of why the show had drama. Don't trust him with a wedding...or anything for that matter. That's a good rule to live by.

(I'd also enjoy that show where the weddings compete. Gustav is dead last; Tuffnut gets points for creativity; Stoick and Fishlegs are in the middle with it not being overly remarkable but nice; Hiccup was almost put below them for all the wildlife, but it's still sweet enough for him to get a better ranking; and I actually have no idea who's winning between Dagur and Snotlout. Ties aren't allowed in that show, so...yeah, not sure. Figuratively speaking, they both win since their friends and loves are having a great time)

Hey! I don't know if you've done these already but do you have any HTTYD sexuality headcanons for the gang? If you've already done a list, could you just link me to it?? tysm

Gosh, I know I've talked about it, but I don't think I've written a list before. So [singing] let's get down to business.

My headcanons tend to be "boring" compared to other fans. Many people like to headcanon based on representation they want or is relevant to their lives, which is totes fair! My headcanons tend to be based as close as possible to canonical behavior. I interpret all media I read, watch, and play through a lore-collecting angle, building my new ideas off "firmly grounded" canonical facts. It's conservative (not politically, but from, like, a "you gotta prove this to me" cautiousness).

I will add small headcanons that I know the creators didn't intend, but I try to make everything closely match canon portrayal and how the creators evoked the characters. This means I tend to treat "if the creators didn't show signs a character is queer, I don't see that character as queer" - simply because I prefer to treat characters as queer when they are blunt, outright representations of queerness. But "if the creators kept the door wide open for something to feel heckin' queer," my headcanon may go there. Not always, but they might.

Hiccup: Straight. Eyes only for butt-kicking ladies like Astrid. I don't treat it as IC for Hiccup, but I do like Hijack art. That statement ages me, doesn't it?

Astrid: Straight or bi. Depends on my mood. If I'm thinking about Hiccstrid, straight. If I'm thinking about Heatstrid, well. Haha. I know they wanted Heatstrid to be a friendship and I love me a good friendship between women. But Heatstrid is too fun. Give myself Heatstrid as a treat.

Heather: Straight or bi. See above.

Fishlegs: Straight.

Snotlout: I will die on a hill that my boy Snottykins is bi. I mean. Come on. He was a squealing mess around Thor Bonecrusher. Snotlout puts on "macho" airs, which includes how he treats women. It's "manly" to flirt openly with women, right? [eyeroll] I believe he was attracted to the ladies he hit on, but that's the only side of himself he shared, and he dug deep into that "masculine" image. His character arc in DreamWorks Dragons is someone increasingly comfortable opening up and being himself. By RTTE times, he's loosened up enough to drop some falsified hyper-masculine behavior, and with that, we see his attractions aren't limited to women.

He can't contain himself around TB. “I’m just thinking of what could have been. You broke my heart, Thor, you broke it right in two.” *kiss* We're seeing a sincere Snotlout here. He's wearing his heart on his sleeve. You're not telling me someone like Snotlout would kiss someone unrelated to him without being attracted to them.

Ruffnut: Bi. I've seen how she smirks at Heather. I see Ruffnut as a pretty sexual person.

Tuffnut: Aro. Very ace. Which rhymes with mace. OTP Tuffnut x Macey for life. I'm appreciative that Tuff never shows romantic or physical interest in someone else. He's shown distinctly differently than others there. And he seems content where he's at.

Dagur: No one's gonna agree with me on this one but straight. I see Dagur's interest in Hiccup as unhinged obsession, not sexual or romantic attraction. I don't care for the Dagur and Mala thing that happened in the plot, and I headcanoned Dagur as straight from the beginning, but I might as well say: Dagur treats Mala extremely differently when he's interested in her versus his interest in Hiccup. Part of that is character arc. But I also say that's because it's a different type of interest.

Stoick: Straight. But we know he and Gobber are in an honorary relationship. ;) Hiccup's dads.

Gobber: Gay. Any romantic entanglements Gobber had with women in his youthful years I interpret as someone not fully come to an understanding of himself. Gobber clearly knows where he stands by HTTYD 2 times.

Return of Mildew’s Son: Hmmm, such an interesting idea. Would not have ever thought of it- like ever. Mostly because I seriously doubt Mildew could ever have a child. He'd probably complain too much about everything. But I like the idea regardless. Especially to see what kind of child could come from Mildew.

Macey Comes to Life: 11/10 Story Idea. You have reached the peak of your creativity. You will never have a better idea. Sounds hilarious and drama filled. Very excited.

Jorgenson/Hofferson Union: Oooooooh in universe... probably a horrible idea. A Jorgenson and Hofferson? I dunno if that could happen. From an authors perspective... OH YES! I can already hearing the shouting and ax throwing and can taste the drama!

Snotlout's Saga: I think you're right, I've never see a Snotlout leaves Berk. I've seen, read, (and written...) several Hiccup leaves Berk, but never Snotlout. I didn't realize however, that he had a major impact on the story. Like I know he was the favorite in rtte, but he has enough impact that he can change how the movie goes too. Thats cool. It's always nice to see Snotlout getting some love. Also, yikes. I know they are vikings and stuff, but banishment... wow that's very... I have forgotten the word... :(

Oooooh. Some other people leaving Berk as well. I like that. Good. Valka's canon story is just... Yeah. Good that you're planning on fixing it.

PRE-HTTYD 1/HTTYD 1 Retelling: You know this is the one I'm most excited for. Cos like we've talked about that a lot. Again, glad you're fixing the whole Valka and siblings thing cos... like not believable at all. Plus, I know a lot of a ideas you're going to add into the retelling, because again, we've talked a lot about this. So yes, very excited.

I know I've said this before, but I really agree on the whole number of children issue. Like I get that they are vikings and the world is harsh, so a lot of babies probably didn't make it... but Berk is in for some real trouble if they only have like six youths. When Stoick and all his generation die, there's going to be quite a problem if there are only about six or seven adults and a lot of teens.

Ooooh more emphasis on families you say? I like that. Especially with Fishleg's family. Specifically Fishleg's mother. He himself said that Hiccup loves his mom, so I'd like to see a bit more of that.

Oh yeah, the weapons/armor thing kinda bothered me... Cos like they needed them. Oh finally. The wingmaidens need help. You already know my beef with them.

Months after Mildew’s disappearance (and treason), his land needs to be worked and lived in. Eventually, a man comes to Berk with his family, claiming to be Mildew’s son, and claims his inheritance. Of course, chaos and hilarity ensue. He is, after all, Mildew’s son. Will Berk come to accept this new resident, or will they wish to give him the boot?

Macey Comes to Life (a Tuffnut/OC short story)

Folklore/Fantasy AU

Inspired from the classic tales where a man wishes that something of his creation was real, and it comes to life as a woman that he then marries.

Tuffnut gets lonely and jealous when the rest of the Gang each get married and have families of his own, while he gets left behind, still a single bachelor, and no family has come to his to offer their daughter’s hand in marriage to him. Sad, he snuggles with Macey and wishes that it was real so that he could have somebody. Next day, he wakes up to find Macey, alive, as a woman, and is overjoyed. Will this be a dream come true? Or will Tuffnut get more than he bargained for?

Jorgenson/Hofferson Union (a Snotlout/OC story)

(Snotlout / OFC) An UA story where a Jorgenson MARRIES a Hofferson. But it’s not Astrid whom Snotlout marries, but rather her older sister, in order to end the feud between the Jorgenson and Hofferson clans. Will he survive this union and find love at last? Or will he become eel bait?

This will be set in HTTYD 2 and a little into THW.

Also this story will be loosely canon, as I’ll be fixing up HTTYD 2 and HTTYD 3 and changing the plots to where they’re compatible and make sense. Hiccstrid marries much sooner, Stoick is alive, Hiccup isn’t an idiot, Drago and Grimmel don’t exist and are replaced with the Warlords, instead. And the Berkians will remain on Berk, New Berk will be greatly altered, and instead of colonizing, the focus will be more on exploration of the Western Archipelago, and perhaps even as far as the British Isles and Iceland. 😉

I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't like RTTE. The art style just throws me off, especially with Toothless, and the seasons seem really rushed to me. As if they're trying to fill in the five year gap in between the movies super quickly

There are many people who don’t like the show and speak candidly about their emotions about it on tumblr. I see critical or negative commentary on RTTE a lot on tumblr. You are definitely not alone and I hope you can find groups of individuals with whom you can share your emotions and experiences so that you don’t feel alone anymore! There is nothing wrong with liking or disliking a show - that’s okay - and I want to encourage you with the fact you’re not alone in your opinion.

I have seen in the fandom a split of about equal numbers between people who dislike the show greatly, people who don’t have much respect for the show but still watch and find some amusement, and people who find great joy in it. I am in the last camp. I have talked to friends from all these perspectives and I have discovered the following phenomenon: people who love the show feel like they are in the minority and are trying to find positivity amongst negativity; people who dislike the show feel like they are the minority and are trying to find like-minded people who don’t obsess over RTTE. It appears that there is actually no “minority opinion,” but it’s just that the fandom has many different perspectives, and that, depending upon the groups you interact with the most, you may find one opinion dominating over the other in that limited circle.

I do not want to imply that the fandom is “broken” because people have different perspectives. That is not the case! We do not have to have “factions” simply because we have different ideas! We are still a community who has things we love in common. In truth, the fact that people have different minds over different things is what makes fandom a good thing! Groupthink doesn’t allow for fascinating and nuanced discussion, and by talking to others of different perspectives, we can have some really fun dialogue. I would be so bored in this fandom if I didn’t see other people with different perspectives than my own. There’s also something huge to be said that it’s important for us to be able to interact with opinions that are different than ours without letting it get to us - if we just clustered ourselves in a small room with people who only thought like us, we would be very stinted in our growth as mature human beings.

However, I do all ask individuals in the fandom to do our best to respect everyone’s opinions in the community. We should all be able to be kind to one another and respect one another’s emotions while at the same time acknowledging that people may have different perspectives. My personal request is that people consider speaking in a constructively critical tone rather than what may be perceived as negative whining; the latter does impact the community negatively and will sap out the enjoyment of others. Of course ranting and raving can be a way to release your own emotions and find positivity with like-minded people (I do it, too, in PMs with friends!), but I do ask people to consider where the best location for those sorts of rants may be. It is ultimately your choice how you engage in your personal discussions with RTTE; just bear in mind that whatever you do, it reaches out beyond more than you!

All in all, let’s just continue being the awesome dragon nerds we are, having fun and enjoying the things we do love, and connecting in the areas of commonality and creativity we have. The fandom is all good for its variety of perspectives, peoples, and opinions! 

So you’re not alone, friend, and you’re fine believing as you do.

However, I do please ask that you don’t send negativity to me. With all kindness, this was not at all the message I wished to receive in my own personal inbox. I don’t want to make you feel bad, but I do hope you understand I don’t want any anti-RTTE sentiment here on my personal blog. As you may be well aware given my posts over the last week, months, and years, I am very much an astute lover of RTTE. Since this is my blog I use for my own personal recreation, I want to use my blog to speak cheerily about what I love about RTTE. I want to build a positive community around my blog that talks happily about RTTE and all materials in the HTTYD canon. This is a pro-RTTE blog, so I am not going to negatively discuss the show with you. Sorry that I am not the best person to talk to you about your qualms!
