Cause you guys remember what Scott did with FNAF? It just started out as a game, but as the story got bigger and bigger and not exactly kid-friendly he instead started dropping hints in other games, books, novels, literally everywhere. And even though technically he "retired" and doesn't really control the content anymore, he still very much has an influence on everything that comes out and everything is still canon to the story even though it's technically not created by Scott Cawthon anymore.

Because most mangas just end when the mangas end right? That's the story. The end. Nothing else to discuss. But like I guess MHA is a special case in every aspect. Maybe Hori is going towards the dropping hints style story, because there were a lot of things left unsolved right? Take Midoriya's Dad as an example. Or the fact that no one became canon, or more like Bkdk didn't become canon. So if we think about it in the Scott Cawthon sense, Scott started dropping hints partly because the content was really not on the PG-13 side anymore. So what if Hori decided not to make Bkdk canon because of the public backlash the manga would get? Cause let's admit it, there would be a LOT of haters if that happened. What if, instead of making them canon, he's just dropping hints now everywhere for us fans to figure it out?

That would be insane, but he wouldn't be the first person to do it. And yes, hints aren't exactly canon, these are all just theories...but they very much might be intentional, and that means something, right?

Yeah, sure, I mean come on they were always going to bring Bison back, he was like the number two most requested in a recent poll and they've been prepping the groundwork for a while. I'm not gonna say I wanted Bison back, but he's the most iconic fighting game villain, we all saw it coming. Either way, everybody who's come back for Street Fighter 6 has come back as the coolest and greatest they've ever been, and I already like Bison a lot so, I'm sure they'll make it worthwhile. I definitely think he looks very interesting at least, really want to know what's up with his new design.

I'm not a fan of two slots going to guest characters? Feels like way too much, I didn't even want guest characters to begin with, but okay. See, there are very few returning SF characters I would trade over a brand new SF6 character, the batting average for the newcomers has been the best it's ever been, but if they are deciding to pull back on adding new characters, and instead rework existing characters or add inconsequential guest crowd-pleasers, okay. I'd rather them not add a new character unless they're putting something really good forwards.

Terry, yeah, Terry's great! You guys know I love him. Of course he gets the honor of being the first non-Capcom guest character in Street Fighter, they have a whole connection. I'd be more impressed if Terry didn't also show up in Smash and Fighting Layer and those mobile collabs and everything, but yeah, Terry!

Really couldn't give less of a fuck about Mai though. Yeah yeah, she's popular, if you get to add SNK guys of course you go with her, Capcom knows what the audience wants, whatever, mostly I find it ridiculous that people treat her like she's some kind of peer to Chun-Li. But like I said, I'd rather have a guest character that doesn't mean anything, than a half-baked new character.

See for a while there I was actually scared that Capcom would stop putting Elena in stuff, considering the HUGE backlash to her USFIV self and how that led to a lot of people vocally disliking the character. I'm glad they aren't cowards because OH MY GOD SHE LOOKS AMAZING

I was dead sure they were going to add Ibuki or Makoto before her, and hell I'm still holding out for Makoto! Out of all the SF3 characters I expected them to add, Elena was very far from the top and I'm very glad to be proven wrong.

They're finally giving her clothes! I don't know who at Capcom keeps pushing them to finally put pants on the women and I hope they never stop. Already the best she's ever looked.

I'm not one of those people that only likes Elena because she has a funny interaction with Akuma in her ending, she was actually always one of my favorites, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not curious how and if they're gonna pick on that thread given the wonderful job they've done characterizing Akuma.

And oh my god how are they gonna animate her, she was always such a distinct character in the way she moves compared to everyone else. How are they gonna update her to the current standards, or make sure she still stands out? They've done such mind-blowing stuff with Rashid, god I can't wait.

i'm still holding off final judgement until the gameplay today, but seeing some stills on twitter kind of helped me solidify what i found so off-putting about the style in the companion trailer

although before i post those, a few counter arguments because i'm already tired of ppl bashing the ppl who aren't vibing with it, and my head is clear enough to put these thoughts down:

"cinematic trailers rarely look like the actual game" - true to a point. however: 1) typically cinematic trailers strive to look like a higher definition version of the game, which seems to be the opposite here. in the case of DAO and DA2, i would say the cinematic trailers actually strived for more realism, not stylization, as that was the trend at the time. 2) this is a cinematic trailer, but it is also done in the game engine so it's not unreasonable to assume that the end product is gonna look somewhat similar 3) this was supposed to be their best foot forward so suddenly going "don't worry, it's gonna look better in-game" is just a bad marketing move. it's not on the audience to give this company the benefit of the doubt (particularly in light of all the shit that has gone down there in the past decade)

"not everything has to be super realistic!" - agreed! not liking elements of this particular style doesn't mean i'm opposed to stylization in DA at all. i think DA2 is much more stylized than DAO, and not only does it look nicer, it looks more distinctly dragon age. DAO visually is also very generic, especially for its time. i still love the almost painterly look of DA2, even all these years later

and i think DAI has issues with the character models, especially the uncanny valley disconnect between the really stiff animations and realistic faces (having played it within the past year, they've aged pretty roughly), but in terms of environment and armor and whatnot, it did build off the style presented in DA2 in a way that effectively modernized it for that era. it did go for a more realistic look, but it was cohesive and still distinctly dragon age

"people reacted like this to DA2 and DAI's trailers too" - no, they did not, lmao. DA2's trailers were the reverse--they looked more realistic than the actual game. now there was some backlash against the stylistic choice in the actual game. i remember david gaider talking about it in a panel at dragon con in 2012--apparently ppl were upset that the companions looked like they were made with cosplayers in mind, which i thought was an interesting criticism. but no, the trailers did not get this sort of response.

and DAI's trailers used a lot of in-game footage, and the cinematic ones were both pretty accurate to the game and well-received by the audience. DAI's marketing was also absolutely bonkers and nonstop for like 9 months before the game was released, which in hindsight i think was way too much, but in terms of visuals, we knew exactly what we were getting.

"you guys just think anything with a style to it looks like fortnite" - lmao, okay, yeah, describing it as fornite is probably unfair and inaccurate, but i know for me, i kind of use it as a shorthand to reflect my general dissatisfaction with the way so many 3D styles (in both games and movies) just have this bland, cartoonish look to them. the pixar-ification of everything. i just don't like it.

and the logo with the bright purple and overly smooth text doesn't really help here either. i think a less saturated and darker purple paired with a grungier font would also help in making this feel like less like fornite season 3458345: dragon age avengers.

plus it was originally gonna be a live service game and i think that it still has some of that dna artistically

SO ANYWAY

these stills, which i think are also in-game engine but im not entirely sure if they're from cinematics, gameplay, or just renders but they seem to be in-line with the trailer:

and seeing emmrich and to a lesser extent neve in these pics solidified why the stylization didn't work for me on a visual level (never mind it being paired with the light-hearted planning-for-a-silly-little-heist vibes)

so when i first saw the trailer, and i saw varric, i was like "nice"

he looked like a higher definition, older version of a DA2/DAI hybrid of his model. he looked really good. i thought harding looked good, too. it did take me a minute to realize who she was, but it really wouldn't be a DA trailer if we weren't left wondering who tf a returning character was lmao (remember the confusion over alistair's appearance in one of the DAI trailers? this is actually tradition now)

but as the trailer goes on, the style doesn't even stay consistent--it just gets progressively more cartoonish right up to emmrich, which is the exact moment that made me go WHAT

he looks like a cartoon character. the hard lines in his face, the stiffness of his hair, his overall proportions--he looks like he should be a villain in a pixar movie. like i'm digging his overall vibe and as a concept of a character design, i love it. but this execution of it next to fellow old wrinkled man varric looks so off

and then we go right into davrin who is beautifully rendered and designed--he doesn't look out of place next to varric or harding

some characters have the soft, wispy hair while others have hair that looks like a hard shell with lines carve into it. some characters have finely detailed wrinkles while others have thick, cartoonish ones. some characters have realistic proportions while others have more exaggerated features.

stylization is only effective when it's purposeful and consistent, and from what i've seen so far, it's not. it's all over the place.

so there's my thesis about why i dont like the art direction in the trailer lmao

and like i've been saying since it dropped, i am reserving full judgment for the gameplay reveal, but based on the other stuff bioware has teased, i'm not expecting this aspect to change too much. i've seen other ppl who were on the fan council thing say the tone in the game is more in-line with the tone in the other games, so maybe that'll help smooth out this disconnect

The team is just really diverse and loves really cool shit. The amount of inspiration we get to name things thematically, we have touched lore I didn't know existed. When it comes to Warframes, we're still looking at old Keith Thompson drawings… he's built different.

Q: I'm sorry to take you back in the morgue. Void keys. Will there be a return to the old void and endless missions? A: We're not in the morgue here, we're in ICU. Visiting hours are open. I loved the old voidkey system. We did a soft tease with Dagath keys, it had wins and losses… There were user experience problems. But it's not totally dead. The omnia fissures are kind of that vibe. You can bring any relic to an omnia fissure and just haul ass.

Q: Can we get a toggle for Protea's visor? A: The rigging artist working on it talked about it. Maybe. You're right, it would be nice.

Q: if you have Drifter selected, can you use drifter melee? A: We thought it was important to keep drifter melee in duviri, but… why not? We could try. Drifters can't mod though. It's not impossible, but it'd take some time.

Q: Warframe being predominantly PVE, has there been talk of collaboration among clans? A: I implied it with the other question, but a social benefit would be great. I'd love to see you make friends with other clans

fair warning for ii neg, especially on the latest episode.

prefacing this with saying: I LOVE INANIMATE INSANITY!!!!!! inanimate insanity is my favourite show in the world and every episode leaves me full of joy and excitement. i adore criticizing it not out of hatred but out of genuine love. i enjoy every single episode i watch.

however, i find that iii19 has been the worst episode so far. it has gotten me the least hyped out of any episode in the series, which is saying a lot because i bounce off the walls at every episode no matter how much i end up criticizing it later. there are. so many problems i have with it. im gonna try and organize them the best i can, though i'll probably(?) edit this post later to insert anything i missed or forgot to say.

starting off positively: oj!!!! personally i am so glad he didn't talk in this episode. i was terrified of the idea of him having a new va. the spin was adorable, i loved his signature thumbs ups, and every time i saw him i squealed with delight. him voting for balloon also made me really happy! despite the grudge he's had against him for so long, he still sticks with him on this part. even after laughing at his death the episode before that

in general all the seasonwunners voted for balloon!! which makes me happy!!! paintbrush, nickel, balloon, and oj have all been there for the very beginning of season 1, three of them being there for every season. i love the inherent connection the contestants from season 1 have with each other. they've been together since inanimate insanity began and they're there for the end of season 3 too. very sweet.

onto more negative stuff! I CANNOT FUCKING BELIEVE WHAT THEY DID WITH SILVER SPOON AND CANDLEEE they set up something crazy in the last episode and then did NOTHING with it!!! they had silver spoon beat candle unconscious the second she said something that wasn't coddling him like the manchild he is and she STILL voted for him. where even was she for half of the episode?? they just left her lifeless corpse on the ground in iii18 and then she eventually got up in this episode and just. went back to the competition??? dogshit writing

okay now i wanna talk about cabby. I Don't Like Cabby Anymore. so from the very beginning i have loved cabby. she was extremely similar to me in fact! i have really bad memory issues and i tend to keep files on people and on things that i might forget about, as well as just to organize my thoughts and ideas. i loved her confidence, obsession with knowledge, and analytical personality at the start. i was pretty upset when the characters (mostly test tube lmao) started relentlessly bullying her, and i HATE the whole thing in spring on the breakfast where they try to demonize her files. it was kind of annoying when they tried to remedy it really quickly after that because it was clearly because of the backlash, but i was glad they at least tried to fix it. however, over the course of the series, she just felt like she was... becoming sadder? pitiful, honestly? she went from an awesome smart character who loved taking notes on people's behaviour and using that information to get better at the game into some kind of Sad Little Bullied Victim. she doesn't even feel like a character anymore to me, just a mouthpiece for the creators to write dramatic "cathartic" speeches through to prove they're Definitely Not Ableist. also what was the deal with her parents lmao they never brought that up again

aaaand this episode was generally written really badly. super fucking corny for one. they literally had a little dance party at the end like people make jokes about for stereotypical Kids' Shows. but my issue is more with like... the weird super fast character development? and the way they wrapped everything up as quickly as possible? something that bothered me was the tonal whiplash between zuwie voicing springy super hysterically and dramatically and then springy being fully redeemed within like the next 5 minutes and dying for mephone. Why did they even die for mephone. like as a character why would he of all people die for mephone. thats so fucking stupid. the rest of the voice acting felt completely different from springy's as well so it just made the effect worse. everyone's lines were really corny and felt so manufactured, like they would pull characters to mephone's side (losing my mind over all the contestants rooting for mephone like cmon man that guy sucks i just know oj at least would want him dead) with a short Cathartic Speech and everything would be fixed and lovely and peachy keen. its just painful to watch. everything feels really weirdly disjointed and badly put together, the flow is awful, the "danger" doesn't feel like there's any suspense to it at all, and every character gets fully redeemed for no good reason. even walkie talkie chats casually with mephone at the end as if they're good friends after they were HYSTERICALLY INSISTING ON MURDERING HIM? AND MAKING HIM WATCH HIS OWN DEATH?? idk if this will get explained in s2 but we still don't know who walkie talkie is, what their motive is, WHY they got redeemed, etc. we know nothing about them. and even if it will be explained later, i think it's shitty writing that NOTHING was explained in this season.

some extra stuff

- SO FUCKING GLAD THEY DIDN'T BRING HOTEL OJ INTO THIS I WOULD'VE CRIED IF THEY PUT SEASON 3 CHARACTERS INTO HOTEL OJ OR MADE IT ALL SLEEK AND S3 STYLE

- the "you can do this" thing at the end was fucking stupid man that was so corny (btw corny isn't always bad but jesus christ... this episode was just awful with it)

- could not feel any emotion towards the Emotional Parts but laughter and secondhand embarrassment

- HOW DID THEY GET THE FUNDING FOR A LIBRARY? I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS THAT MEPHONE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING FOR A PRIZE HOW DID HE PAY FOR AN ENTIRE LIBRARY

- speaking of, why isn't oj back at the hotel. doesn't he have to manage it. wasn't paper having a ton of trouble managing it. why are all of them still on that fuckass island. did the library take like 5 minutes to build what the fuck

- ALSO!!! Why did they build a library in the middle of a deserted island

Anyway long ass ramble abt the tiny dead Hidden Agenda fandom below the cut

This is mainly something I noticed looking through the very limited amount of Hidden Agenda fics on ao3, but it's VERY obvious on there. The vast majority of fics on there are centered on Adam and Finn, which I can understand more since they have an interesting backstory and are well written characters, sure. But then you look at the others and the other characters that are centered are... Riggs and Calvary?

In the actual game ofc Becky and Felicity are the main characters. Both of them not only are pretty objectively interesting characters on their own, and even more so together. On top of this they have the most shipping potential of any two characters in that game, it's literally basically canon, it's not even subtext atp it's literally just text. NO other two characters have that amount of chemistry in the game, and yet there is a noticeable lack of gravey fics in that tag. And I'll stress again bc I know how defensive people got last time I made this kind of observation, I'm not pointing fingers or calling anyone misogynistic/racist/homophobic BUT. but. When the two mcs are women, one of which is poc, and they're implied to be lesbians, and they get sidelined by the fandom despite being the focuses of the game... it's kinda hard not to assume there's some kind of bias there.

And on another point, it's similar when it comes to supporting characters too. In a way I'm disappointed but absolutely not surprised that Adam/Finn is prioritized in fan works over Becky/Felicity, but when characters like Riggs and Calvary are also given more attention than them it becomes way more suspicious to me. Riggs is a fine character, I like him enough and I can see why others might like him more, but wbk he doesn't really have all that much relevance. Calvary is even more confusing bc he basically JUST exists to be a creepy misogynistic asshole and as unlikeable as possible. Thankfully I haven't seen him getting a lot of attention but the fact that I've seen him getting any that isn't entirely negative is... hm...

Now there ARE in fact male characters that can be both relevant and likeable: Tom and Karl. (I talk shit abt Karl bc it's a joke I started with friends, I'm gonna drop that for this post obv bc we're being fr here) these two are pretty obviously more relevant than Riggs or Calvary, they're literally Becky's partners (Tom can even replace Riggs' entire role lmao, and if he's replaced himself it's by Karl) and I'd say they're also both likeable characters on their own too. And yet I'm pretty sure I found maybe one??? fic with them in it? Probably should have mentioned this earlier but yeah, they're both poc.

So like... I feel like it all comes down to what Becky/Felicity/Tom/Karl have in common and then what Adam/Finn/Riggs/Calvary have in common. It strikes me as questionable. But like maybe I'm just an annoying snowflake though idk🤷‍♀️ /s

This turned into more of a ramble than anything and I'm aware i'm also yelling into a void bc I'm posting entirely for a dead fandom that barely existed to begin with, but tbh this stuff applies to most if not all larger fandoms as well, i'm just looking at it from what I've seen in the remnants of the HA fandom. Again I am not attacking anyone here, I am making observations. If you're like mad or something I'm just gonna assume you didn't even read the whole post. Yes ur allowed to like characters, but I am also allowed to address what I've noticed about what characters seem to be more liked than others.

Agree to disagree with you on forces vs Frontiers, I feel Frontiers was an improvement however I hope your opinion in it is sincere cause sometimes I see a lot of " WOW forces is way better then Frontiers actually "" and it mostly seems to just people hating it more because Flynn is involved, rather then a honest opinion about both games. Also not gonna convince me Infinite's theme is better then Vandalize, that one slams :P

Funny that you mention it, because I was actually accused of this. And, to be fair, I did groan when they revealed that Flynn would have written the game's story, so I understand why the assumption is that I'm unfairly biased 😂

But the thing is that we don't fully know what was his role in the writing: from what I got, he wrote the script for an already established plot. And if that's true, I can blame him for things like the constant references or Sonic's buffy speak, but I can't blame him for much more substantial issues like the general emptiness of the story or Eggman's role. I'm also taking the game's rushed, crunched development into account, which obviously isn't anyone's fault but SEGA. And ofc the flat voice direction kills the writing even more, and that is not the writers' fault. It's a mix of things, and Flynn is not the scapegoat here.

The little minority that is defending Forces mostly comes from a place of backlash against years of the Sonic community treating it like the worst thing that has happened in the franchise, replacing '06 with it as the acceptable punching bag (esp now that '06 is approaching its 20th anniversary and thus getting the "actually it was underrated" treatment), even going so far as insult the few fans of it implying that they're stupid or children (ah, Sonic Stadium is a wonderful place). It is tangentially related to Flynn because IDW came out a little after Forces did, and it was taken as proof that he's a near perfect writer that can do no wrong and oh wow it's so much better than the stupid pontaff games, sega hire this man asap. After six years, almost seven, it's safe to say that Forces, while far from being perfect and surely with a ton of flaws in its plot and execution of it, is not the absolute disaster that it was painted to be... and I personally think that Frontiers, a game that really comes off as wanting to be praised for being "a step in the right direction", and a game whose story was immensely praised and that praise put squarely on Flynn, really isn't in the things that matter.

(story wise, I mean. The gameplay is another matter, and I can't judge it. I have mixed opinions on the "open zone" style.)

And hey, Vandalize is cool! I never said anything of the contrary :P I'm only perplexed as to why it was associated with Sonic in the first place, since it's a song about a crumbling toxic relationship (lmao at the fans who thought it would be about Sonamy). But most songs from Frontiers are complete slappers, and I found myself singing Vandalize and Undefeatable for months :P I like both OSTs, they're different and they both have their highs and downs.

well im glad i could help 🥰 i've gotten the perfectionism bug with my own writing so i know how much it really sucks. i think it's also scary on the internet where people are increasingly becoming mean to people they don't know over even small things, so it prob feels like you're risking getting huge backlash over something that isn't all that difficult to fix. like, the demon spotlight is just a hobby blog covering figures that appear in a game series that in itself has questionable information and unclear sources, it's not an official compendium blog run by atlus yknow??? i get not wanting to spread misinformation or see it get spread ab mythological figures but for a hobby blog where it's not difficult to add to posts, i don't think it needs to be all that deep. don't be afraid to add an addendum to old posts if you ever come across new information or a correction, i think that kind of thing could be beneficial even if the original post had a lot of incorrect stuff in it

plus, with so many different retellings and translations of mythological stories i think people will consider different ones to be their "canon" to them. i mean like, i read ab two or three different takes just on ganesha's birth in a little section ab parvati in a book discussing a ton of different goddesses. and with language barriers and such, you're bound to run into inaccuracies tbh

i think it's a good preface for everyone involved to come into this understanding that it's easy to unknowingly run into wrong information ab figures, smt is full of inaccuracies in itself, the demon spotlight is just a hobby and isn't gonna get thesis-level work put into it, and the goal isn't to spread misinformation

So, I know Setsuka is only related to the 79th class through being hired by the Kisaragi Foundation and that's why she got kidnapped by Mikado (through Syobai). Her connection isn't any deeper than that and frankly, I don't really mind this? It's not as if the other members of the cast have a very deep connection the 79th class either nor are they that directly related to them (and yes, that includes the Otonokoji twins and Kinjo). So her not having a specific connection to a 79th class member is fine and works for the story.

But! I came up with a headcanon for Setsuka that she does have a connection to a specific 79th class member and I think it can be really cute. And it's this:

Setsuka actually met Teruya and his father during her billiards career.

(Copying and pasting my Discord ramblings for context):

"...basically, Setsuka was attending a billiards tournament and Kojiro Otori had entered it on a whim. Depending on how much older Setsuka is compared to Teruya, Teruya was either a toddler that didn't really remember Setsuka or a child when this happened. Either way, Kojiro brings Teruya with him and he's either by his side strapped to a stroller so he doesn't run off somewhere and get lost or he's in the audience selling Otori snacks or something. Kojiro has been decimating the scene despite never having shown up in a billiards tournament before and it's driving the crowd wild, alongside Setsuka. Eventually, the two of them are paired in the semi-finals and Kojiro is very relaxed the whole time they're playing. But don't be fooled, his chill nature only shows how confident he is and he even made a few light-hearted jabs at Setsuka, who's not as good as she appeared (without using her eye at least). When it became clear that she was gonna lose, Setsuka briefly whips out her eye and decimates Kojiro at the last turn. Kojiro is shocked, with either baby Teruya mimicking his father's expression or child Teruya spitting out his drink when he saw what happened on screen. With that, Setsuka moves onto the final round, wins the tournament and is getting ready to leave with her prize.

But then she sees Kojiro walking up to her like he was a man on a mission with Teruya in tow. Setsuka becomes a little frightened cause she had heard of sore losers attacking the winners out of pettiness. She was prepared for some kind of backlash.

And then Kojiro grabs her shoulders and goes, "WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE SPONSORED BY THE OTORI MART??"

And Setsuka just stares at him like, "what."'

"Kojiro, after losing to a teenager: "That kid beat my ass. It was awesome. I'm gonna sponsor her whole career."'

"Setsuka tells him that she doesn't appear in a lot of billiards tournaments as she sees this as more of a hobby but Kojiro says that it's also a hobby of his and doesn't mind. He just wants to support her career cause frankly, what she did was pretty damn cool and he wants to see her grow. If this is child Teruya, he would've grabbed Setsuka's hand and asks how she did it and if she can kick his dad's butt again cause he always sucked a billiards. Kojiro dies a little on the inside but Setsuka laughs, saying that if he wanted a rematch, he should've just said so and accepts his sponsorship."

"If it's baby Teruya, he's be hugging her leg and trying to speak to her as he asks her to 'do it again, do it again!'"

"Ever since, Setsuka has kept in contact with the Otori family. She doesn't always get to see them due to the nature of Kojiro's work and the constant traveling he does, but the sponsorship has clearly developed into a friendship between them."

"She even visited their home one time and Setsuka got to hold Teruya, teasing him and playing with him. Teruya calls her Bis Sis once and she immediately latches onto it to the point that she insists that everyone calls her Big Sis...even when they're the same age, lmao. Kojiro and Teruya also call her Setsu (depending on Teruya's age)."

That's pretty much all I got on them as it's a pretty simple headcanon. Due to how...vague Setsuka's age is beyond just being older than Yoruko, early to mid thirties at minimum, I kinda just made two versions with how Teruya would react as a baby and a child. But yeah, it was all very cute!

...As long as you don't think about the fact that Setsuka was banned from billiards, probably never contacted Kojiro again out of shame since he went out of his way to sponsor her career in billiards and ghosted them for years, reunited with Teruya only after she became a private investigator and finds out that Kojiro funded the Despairs after believing his son was dead and lost his mind and died after a few years into the Tragedy, and then got kidnapped and killed in the Utsuroshima Killing Game and leaving Teruya alone. All because Kinjo chose to sacrifice her in order to keep his deal with Syobai hush hush.

It's okay, they get to reunite in the Afterlife Theater and do the "Got sacrificed by Kinjo for the sake of his plans" handshake emoji. I'm sure they'll cope Great with that news. (sarcasm)

No literally that's the thing it feels like it got scared of where its own messaging was going when the premise is. SO set up for challenging these things. And for awhile it really does seem like that's the direction things are going but then it just?? doesn't and the only real conclusion we get re: haruhi and gender is her taking off the long haired wig she was wearing when she goes to rescue Tamaki but even then the imagery we're left with is THIS so like lmao

It's like. It acknowledges gender roles are dumb and performative but never actually challenges said roles. I mentioned Haruhi making the active decision to cut off all her hair and the backlash she gets from Tamaki specifically because it's the only real instance of Haruhi actively choosing to be GNC, and it's... very much shrugged off by the end and everything else she chooses to wear and decorate herself with is outwardly feminine. It feels like it's trying to say "girls can have short hair" more than "girls don't have to look like girls" at times lmao.

I also only hinted at this because I think this is more me seeing things that aren't there and being mad the show isn't as based and woke as I thought it would be but the host clubs existence and the boys in it also act as living representations of these types of social norms being dumb!!

Like the twins who are very much a normal ass pair of brothers but as soon as they're performing for the girls at the host club they go full incest yaoi. And it's pointed out to us through their backstory and their fight episode that they have been very aware of peoples expectations of them their whole lives because they are twins and the one thing they have in common is that they desire independence and their own identities. That's!! A really good theme that could very easily run parallel to the gender stuff!!!!! It's all the same man!!!

Haruhi immediately being able to tell the difference between them because she sees them as people first and the thing they represent (twins, in this case) is what ends up endearing her to them too. C'mon man it's right. it's right there.

The same thing goes for Kyoya's family's high expectations of him or even Honey being infantilized and fetishized because he appears younger than he actually is and likes cute things.

The entirety of the host club being built around what they boys think make them desireable too is an AMAZING theme especially when so much of Haruhi's interactions with them prove them wrong. It's kind of unfortunately underlined with the same misogynistic "Haruhi loves the boys for Who They Really Are because she's smart while the annoying fangirls don't" undertone but the fact they literally categorize and market themselves by what they believe is their "trope" is. Hmm! (e.g. Kyoya is the "cool type" according to their designations, but he's actually most likable to Haruhi and to us when he's more vulnerable and/or chill)

BIG FYI i haven't actually read the manga so I don't know if the anime did it justice or not. I know probably the most major thing that left a bad taste in my mouth was the beach rape episode and that was a very much non-consequential plot I could see being an anime addition. And also this is. an anime I watched when I was 12 and occassionally think back on and go "what the fuck was that about" so my views on it are going to be pretty biased.

Anyway host club AU sounds fun! Maybe a little bit of a downer note from me though: host and hostess clubs irl have some much darker associations than anything in OHSHC so you might want to be aware of that. OHSHC has done wonders in sanitizing their reputation, I reckon. It's not a big problem or anything I think as long as you crank up the light-hearted silliness nothing can really go wrong, but still something i thought was worth mentioning.

i can't remember if you've ever said anything about it before but as the resident Ronin Enjoyer do you have any thoughts on some of the more irredeemable or straight up bad parts of his writing (i.e. what he did to zane in skybound and possibly ToE? but mainly the one thing with nya. like i'm not gonna fault anyone for not liking him but i personally feel like that never should've been written in in the first place and it sucks seeing people act like liking him is a sin. you know :/)

Ronin my guy my scrungle he is not the best man but also he suffers from bad writing lol. The Nya thing.... As much as I personally prefer to pretend it didn't happen because it feels like in the early days of Ninjago the writers consistently kept forgetting that she's supposed to be a minor (SKYBOUND) as well as making her face the occasional casual sexual harassment/assault (evil Jay forcefully kissing her), this is actually consistent with Ronin's character because:

Granted, the reason I prefer to ignore this aspect of him is because it's just plain stupid and he gets no real backlash from it in canon. And with Misako it's very much out of nowhere and Ronin doesn't even seem like he's interested. He erased her memories to pit her against the ninja and nothing else, but for some reason it was decided she should be putting her hands all over him like that 💀 However, I don't blame people for looking at this and deciding he's unlikable for it.

With the Zane stuff, I look at him taking Zane and Pixal to Chen's as something he had no other choice to do. It's kinda confirmed in the book Way of the Departed that it's the case (though my own reasoning is a bit different compared to the book), but at the same time, this was during a time he was a bit more eviler lol. So if he did this with evil intent then well he's grown since then at least.

As for what he did to Zane in Skybound, tbh fucked up and I'm glad it was technically undone. But Zane and Pixal were also kinda treated like objects that season in general too. The way Zane treated Pixal, the general existence and then complete dismissal of Echo, and whole thing with the Mechanic.... not great.

For me, personally I see Ronin as a tech lover who loves R.E.X so much he considers it a person, and by extension would respect Zane and Pixal in that regard, especially after befriending them but that's just me 🤷

But tbh there is something Ronin has done that is far more heinous than being robophobic and a creep, and that's what he did to the Islanders. I do not like season and what it did to him. Of all the people he goes and robs, it's the isolated people no one knows exists lmao. He doesn't just take their money, he takes their food, and takes so much they resort to human sacrifice. Like what the fuck. This felt more like something maybe SoR Ronin would do. And he was treated more like a common villain with no real history with the ninja at the end, too.

I don't wanna fully say it's out of character for Ronin to rob an entire island of people though, because I do feel like if desperate enough, he would go back to how he was before. I don't think he's above betraying the ninja, or hurting innocents because we've been shown he's afraid of dying (or at least going to super hell lmao) and is overall untrustworthy. But the thing is, he was fine! He had a deal with the Commissioner and was doing fine! Why make him do this, and then arrest him with the very people he used and put back in prison himself and then have him be just.... totally fine and friends with everyone again, prisoners and ninja alike lmao. It's bad writing to me. And after his development and and his relationship with the ninja, it seems very ill fitting to have him be the one lead the prisoners on the island when the Mechanic and/or Ultra Violet are right there.

So yeah I mean, if people don't like him I get it. At face value he is not a great guy lol. But for me there's a lot to like about him just because I really like his type of character when done well. He was a great influence for Nya and I love their relationship. He just suffers from poor writing just like.... every other character in this show 💀

And people better not be harassing or hating on others for liking a goddamn LEGO of all things. Please there are real problems to have. I'll continue loving Ronin regardless if others consider it a crime to lol I'm a grown bitch and can do whatever I want ❤️

NCW still flip-flopping in 2023 about the finale is so disingenuous. He was HAPPY with the "tragically romantic [twincest] death" insofar as he wrote Benioff & Weiss a letter THANKING them. He only began flip-flopping after the ending aired and the backlash swelled up; his desire for Jaime to be seen as a hero for returning to die with Cersei didn't take into account how much the audience loves Brienne and that they wouldn't let that shit slide. His dumb ass got booed at SDCC for good reason.

Nikolaj is a weird one and not in a good way lol. Before S8 he mentioned many times how he'd get into arguments with Dumb and Dumber over Jaime's storyline because he wanted Jaime to leave Cersei sooner, and was very much Team J/B but then all of a sudden with S8 he's pro-Twincest.🤨 So for him to think people would be okay with Dumb and Dumber's flop ending is just plain delusional especially when he was just as anti-twincest as everyone else before S8. Not only did the audience love Brienne but they loved the J/B relationship too! So no duh of course people were gonna hate D&D's version. Nik's role offers were probably drying up and he wanted to stay on good terms with D&D + HBO so they can hire him in the future which would explain the S8 asskissing but so far it hasn't worked out for him.

Him getting booed at SDCC was hilarious! Who tf gets booed at Comic Con?! That's how universally hated the Twincest ending was. I know The Rock got booed too when he went like a year ago and then shortly after Black Adam flopped in the theaters but actors getting booed at SDCC is very very very rare! I'm glad it happened though. 😏 Dumb and Dumber cancelled their appearance that year. Only smart thing they did LMAO. They saw the writing on the wall. That last GoT SDCC panel was so incredibly awkward and embarrassing. They shouldn't of have bothered.

character(s) / portrayal(s): ok see i didn't really know a whole lot about hsr to comment on it before, but now that i do, i think you capture the characters you write from the game impeccably! i can see them in the words you write. and what is the most impressive to me is just how INVESTED you are into elio! oh i am absolutely fascinated. i admit that i still need to brush up on hsr lore (and this is def my fault for being invested in other non-gacha games rn) but considering elio does not have much to work with overall, besides him being the leader of the stellaron hunters with some neat prophetic capabilities... i just love seeing what you've built for him. it's sooooooo so amazing.

and i want to properly mention that when i read the hc you made about kirishima with what happens in his career for him to go into an early retirement... oh i felt so sad for him. charlie i was internally in shambles. but when i tell you that it's so well thought out, and fits into his character and the events he experiences, and of course the potential extremities to the backlash of his quirk? i mean it. i loved that you gave it so much thought, even if my heart shattered a little for him.
