so every character in the book brielle's supposed to be in is becoming brainrot to me. ranting below cut, i have a feeling this'll be long.

edit after actually writing all that below the cut: holy shit

dk what i'm supposed to do with the half-elf since i'm not sure i even want elves in this particular world anymore. i could make him half-demon instead? could make elves a more foresty, human-like subsect of the demons. his name rn is carrion, could make him a bit like a vulture or crow when he comes to term with his heritage? like his dad kinda just dumped his mom when he found out she was pregnant, so maybe he'd just think all demons were like that to humans because his dad's his only frame of reference.

anyway, what i'm most exicted about is the fullblood demons in the story. and the magic systems. ethel's based on a bluejay, for the most part, and his magic stuff is pretty minor at this point. yes his wings are mossy, no he is not powerful yet.

his little sister (whose name i WILL be changing from marjory, i panicked when i named her in the first place) likely won't have anything going on yet, maybe a delicate chain of flowers draping her horns.

rialla is their stepmother, based on sharks (though not one conclusive species just yet) thinking of covering her in swamp hibiscus flowers. they can match the pink vibe she's had since original iteration of the story pretty well.

and my mc brielle uses the other magic system, the one that uses blood instead of plants. so anyway, guess who gets burned and finds herself in (what will probably be) jungle fantasy hell within the first few chapters.

anyway here are the magic systems:

cor: relies on magic from the planet's core, which flows between witches (seperate race in-universe) and the aforementioned core. their blood is essential for spells in this magic system, as it contains high levels of cor. cor means heart in latin (according to google translate) and blights (magic scars) tend to manifest over the heart. the theming was initially an accident, but i intend to go super hard on it. the old version of this witch type got animal features as they used their power more and more, and i'll see what i can do to fit it in with the new system. no promises it'll work, though.

vin: the plant magic of demons. their bodies are conduits for this magic. they eat a plant, and the plant's mundane properties manifest in a magical ability the demon will be able to use for an amount of time depending on how much they ate. they've evolved specifically to be able to eat all this shit (i am not prepared to hassle myself with researching poisonous plants,) and they become more connected to nature the more they use this magic. they also grow plants all over them, as you may have picked up on from the character stuff earlier.

bitches i ain't got any idea what to do with:

luna and helis (the orc sun and moon twins thing could get recycled for a later date. luna's second time through the shredder will be interesting. i drew her with her previous iteration (a fucking talking dog?? with a shark tail????) a while back.)

quetzal (dragonborne, which may not end up existing the way they did originally. that is one more family member that ethel simply does not have anymore, jeez.)

Last night I dreamed I baked banana bread.

But not just any banana bread.

I dreamed that I made the banana bread like normal. But then!

Then I thinned some peanut butter with milk (????) and melted some chocolate and thinned that with milk, too, and then put them into separate baggies, and put those baggies into a third baggie so their corners were all aligned. I cut the overlapping corner to make a squeezy bag like for frosting where they would both come out together but not mixed, and then I dipped the tip of it into the banana bread batter and swirled peanut butter and chocolate into it.

THEN I baked it.

I explained my dream to my neighbor and she gave me bananas and told me to make my dreams come true. So. I'm gonna try it tomorrow.

It's always funny to me when in an lu fic the chain is offered bananas and don't accept them. Like, you're offering these high energy adventures free food?? Fruit they'll have never even heard of before??? A ridiculously expensive imported good at best?? AND it boosts your attack?
