Hi, totally unrelated to book stuff… if you want a fun break from that, I just wanted to share that I have become totally obsessed with this show on Netflix called iZombie. I decided to try it out for the hell of it not expecting anything… And it has totally swept me off my feet! So clever and fun and funny mixed with CSI components. Great characters. And they know how to keep things interesting! You shared you enjoy winding down from your days with Netflix… Have you caught this show??

I'm posting this if OTHER people want a recommendation -- for me, it's probably a nope. The title alone creeps me out, and I just looked up the premise and while I SEE why people would like it, it made me feel actually ill. I'm not trying to watch anyone eat brains. *shiver*

I am very basic. This is what I watch:

Jeopardy.

Reality / Competitions to do with drag queens, food, fashion or travel. (All iterations of RuPaul's Drag Race, Bake Off, Amazing Race, Project Runway, Top Chef, Below Deck, etc.)

British quiz shows/panel shows. (Would I Lie To You, QI, 8 out of 10 Cats, Countdown, Taskmaster, I Literally Just Told You, etc.)

Comedies, sometimes. (right now I like Ghosts and Abbott Elementary, but I also forget that these exist for periods)

Random stuff on YouTube. (I like Good Mythical Morning, Mental Floss John Green episodes, Weird History, Map Men, Baumgartner Art Restoration, etc)

I have gone through phases of watching some dramatic show like Grey's Anatomy or Criminal Minds or something, but I usually can only watch them if I am doing a puzzle or playing a game on my phone at the same time so it's like a radio show and I don't have to look at anything gross. (And when the phase is over, I can't even THINK about those shows again - like what was I thinking with that Criminal Minds phase, it's a miracle I can ever fall asleep again! GROSS!) -- I don't have one of those on tap now. So MAYBE I would try ONE ep of iZombie WHILE PUZZLING AND NOT LOOKING. But not until I'm done with all the 30+ seasons of Amazing Race!

Some random, unbetaed snippets set during the Siji Manor arc in which I'm trying to process my Feelings about these two and about Wen Kexing's backstory. Spoilers for eps...mid-20s onward, I think, show canon only. CW for loudly implied, past, severe child abuse.

Even though Zhou Zishu has never slept so deeply beside another person since his master was still alive, he's too well-trained to forget just how dangerous the person at his side, ironically, actually is.

Every so often (when Chengling says something especially innocent, when sunlight glances a particular way off a kitchen knife, when Zhou Zishu smiles unprompted) he'll see Wen Kexing's eyes widen and his face go strangely blank, like a performer caught in the middle of switching out masks behind the curtain. It's the blankness that Zhou Zishu recognizes from the moments when Wen Kexing casually sets aside his gentlemanly front and leaves corpses in his wake.

The second most horrifying thing about it is the fact that Zhou Zishu can't sense any change in his qi - no focused heaviness of killing intent, no ozone tang of impending violence like a lightning strike. It's not because of the Nails slowly destroying his senses, either, but rather that this means Wen Kexing is either constantly on the edge of violence or the violence has simply settled so deeply that it's indistinguishable from his resting qi state.

The most horrifying thing about it, though, is what that implies about the years in which his shidi had been taken from him.

This just in: local sect leader shows affection by metaphorically knocking shit off the coffee table.

It’s the first time Jiang Cheng has seen Jin Ling in person since the morning after the temple, and Jin Zixuan’s proud posture with Jiang Yanli’s gentle eyes and the fire that is all Jin Ling himself is making Jiang Cheng realize that coming up to him in public was probably a big fucking mistake. Have you heard, the rumors would say, the fearsome Sandu Shengshou started bawling at the fucking conference like a mother on her daughter’s wedding day. His nephew is all grown up and Jiang Cheng squashes the (irrational, unhelpful, don’t do it you miserable bastard) urge to grab Jin Ling and fly back to Yunmeng.

“Your guan is crooked,” Jiang Cheng says instead.

I'm finding a lot of mass-produced hanfu on Etsy being sold at prices that are sometimes twice as high as I've seen the same sets going for on other English-language hanfu sites. :O

So, uh. If that's your thing, before committing to an order, you might also take a look at sites like New Hanfu or Fashion Hanfu, both of which I've had decent luck with in terms of quality and shipping. Yesstyle.com is another option with greater variety than the other two, but my limited experience with it suggests that quality is a bit more...hit-or-miss?

On the other hand, Etsy does have merchants which do natural fiber fabrics. :D

Are you watching Ancient Love Poetry? I thought I saw a post you made a while back about it anyway I'm all caught up on the drama I'm loving it! I might need to do a rewatch though because I think I missed some things especially who Bo Xuan is I thought he was Bai Jue am I wrong in thinking that? Do you think you can list the episodes he shows up in the flashbacks if you don't mind.

yep! i'm watching! up to 22 so far. i haven't yet started on the new eps- i was actually going to when i saw the ask(s). i also think bo xuan is bai jue- just like how tian qi in the immortal realm is known as jing yuan.

did a quick skim through and the flashbacks are really only in e17 between the 10-20 minute mark.

then- in e19 when qing mu and hou chi agree to look for bo xuan together and share their info:

hou chi: /looks qing mu up and down/ qing mu : what is it? hou chi: you look like bo xuan in figure, but you're totally different in temper. i never heard anything about it. did bo xuan date some female lord from qingchi palace ten thousand years ago? if you're his son, you should call me "aunt." Or maybe you're his brother? Maybe someone even closer to him than we know.

Legend of Yun Xi [Ep 42]

Recap:

Eunach Li follows Tang Li and NingJing. He overhears them talking about how Yun Xi and Feiye are separated and that she is forming a cure and that Qi Shao is assisting her. Tang Li is furious to hear that Qi Shao is with Yun Xi and goes to find her at Dr. Gu's house. He confronts her and ends up telling her the truth about who killed her father. Yun Xi is distraught having wrongly accused and hated Feiye. They are then attacked by Eunach Li's men.

Qi Shao and Yun Xi run and hide but are nearly caught. She poisons one of them. The other two continue to pursue them while Tang Li goes to get help.

Feiye finds Qi Shao and Yun Xi together and is jealous and acts indifferent and cold towards her. She tells Xi Feng she won't go to the palace and will go back to Dr. Gu's house. Xi Feng argues with her but she tells him that Feiye said himself they were divorced and so they have no relations. Feiye is obviously angry but knows he can't do anything but accept it since he won't force Yun Xi.

Qi Shao and Yun Xi have a heart-to-heart and she tells him that she can't accept his heart. He still is very much in love with her though and willing to do anything for her.

Xi Feng exaggerates what Yun Xi and Qi Shao have been up to. Out of jealousy Feiye goes to see her and sees that she's doing well. She asks why he lied to her but he doesn't answer her and she runs off. Later, Tang Li asks him why he doesn't explain and brings Yun Xi back. Feiye says that being with him might be what hurts her most.

NingJing misunderstands Tang Li and Feiye's conversation and tells Yun Xi that Feiye is planning a surprise for her. Just then Nanny Zhao brings her letter that is Feiye's handwriting to meet him at the temple. She and NingJing switch clothes and she immediately goes to see him. However, MingXiang is the one there to "greet" her.

Review:

And here we go with the MingXiang murder plot lol. She's gonna try and kill Yun Xi in the next episode. However, I already know she won't succeed cuz there are still like 6 episodes left haha.

Qi Shao has really turned into the typical second male lead at this point. I feel really sorry for him being so devoted to Yun Xi hoping that she will choose him in the end. Even though, he's already lost far before this game even began. Yun Xi says she doesn't deserve him treating her well but she does. Besides, it's a person's own choice if they decide not to give up on their one-sided love or not. Regardless he knows that he can stay by her side as a friend.

Have I mentioned in any of these recaps that I simply adore Xi Feng's character? He's so devoted to his friends, and job and he's got a great sense of justice. He's serious but also has a cute, sweet, and funny side to him. He's a nice balance between the goofy Qi Shao (now), and the stoic Feiye.

Ugh...Feiye is really getting on my nerves. I mean I still love his character but why won't he just talk to Yun Xi. Just tell her what you're worried about and everything. I know he thinks that "letting her go" is what's best for her but he hasn't taken her feelings into account at all. He hasn't even asked her how she feels about anything! Besides, he's not doing a great job of letting go haha when he's got guards and all his folks constantly being by her side. Yeah...sure you don't care about her at all sir lol.

Tang Li and NingJing are cute but I'm still waiting for Tang Li to realize that he loves her. I think with her just being around all the time he hasn't had the chance to really think about it. Plus he has had to pick up more duties and work so he's been busy.
